things I’d do as an Aquaman writer for the Aquaman comics or in other words my wish list:

use the Atlantean gods as a concept more

use other Aquaman villains like Siren and Fisherman, give Manta and Orm a rest but do not invent another Corum Rath

Arthur and Orm team up

Mera, Tula, and Dolphin team up (to stop Siren) cause aqualadies my beloved

more Garth as Tempest

more of Jackson (and his bf) being Aquaman

make Orm a little more like his dceu counterpart (which was based on N52 Orm) but give him back his Dagon kingdom with Erin, Tommy, and Lernaea

bring back Atlanna except she’s more like her dceu counterpart too

Arthur Jr. resurrection arc and being siblings with Andy (bc why does Arthur Jr get to live in every universe except the main continuity… BORING, resurrect him)

use other Aquafam members who haven’t been seen in a while like Koryak and Lorena

This is Darrell France (I'm debating on the last name), aka Shadow Knight his parents died when he was 12, he used to hate Molly but then they became best friends, and eventually he became boyfriends with their friend Raphael, tho after he died he became an anti-hero

Theodore Armstrong was a common thief before meeting Magia y bromos, he's technically Darrells soulmate (literally) but he doesn't know that yet

Rupert Gray is a Shapeshifting bounty hunter who turns into all sorts of monsters, he was from a different dimension but got transported here which, in the process, misshaped him and gave him powers, he was raised by lobo hence why he's a bounty hunter

This is Goergie Lockwood, she is a tech genius who killed her parents at a young age for ab*sing her, after that she went around finding and killing child ab*sers and pr*detors

Aquarius Curry, aka Aqualady, she is the daughter of Aquaman and rebelled against him because she wanted to live on land, she used to date Cyrene before she died

Speaking of Mera, what IS her personality?

lmao this is the problem all the Aqualadies have, they tend to have all their interactions with their romantic interest and their personality takes a back seat.

Currently? Idk I feel like most people just write her as “confident and fighty!!” which is like…fine. She seems very Girlboss™️ and people love to point out she’s a Queen and she Can Kill You. To be fair, Arthur also didn’t have a very distinct personality for a while (at least not compared to his Edgelord era) so together they just feel very romantic and in love and I don’t think their lack of personality is noticeable when drama is constantly happening around them. You really do believe they’re in love regardless of the era.

It’s not much different than preboot, but Mera used to be really defined by her status as a wife and mother, so she would be whatever the story called for; weepy, romantic lead, nagging wife, jealous lover, etc. I think she’s consistently headstrong through the decades.

She’s Aquaman’s Confident and Capable Wife. It just becomes very obvious that it’s her main personality when Mera in a context where she is not Aquaman’s wife lol

What’s Tula’s character like?

Tula, like all the women of Aquaman, isn’t super developed. In current comics she’s like…………a dog sitter and we’re told she’s a good fighter lmao they really could have done something with her but they didn’t!! I don’t like her (big shocker I know lmao)

Preboot Tula I love despite her very clearly being written as a love interest because she’s really fun. She’s truly just a wild, independent, fun-loving girl who was created to really emphasize Garth as being a goody-two-shoes. She drinks, sneaks out, and is unashamed in flirting with Garth who is much shyer than her. Tula also serves as a reason that Garth starts coming out of his shell (who wouldn’t be down for a naked makeout session with their hot older girlfriend during a wedding?) i feel like she’s more authentically quirky than the current “girlboss” aqualadies despite being from a pretty sexist time period in comics lmao. Like I think she’s intended to be a little too much, but by currently standards she’s perfectly normal lmao. Again, not developed as a character but pretty consistent in her trope

while she does get the “murdered woman to fuel a man’s character development” treatment, she was pretty consistently written before that and had been established as Garth’s love interest for like 20 years before she died. Personally for me it felt less like “we gave Garth a girlfriend to kill her off” and more “we know killing off this character is going to show how serious this event is”
