The Limit Review
Finn and Jake go on a rescue mission to save the hot dog knights. The hot dog knights are severely mentally disabled. They make the Banana Guards look competent. I appreciate the episode immediately giving an explanation for why they don’t just stretch over the labyrinth, no cheating! It’s debatable whether Jake using his stretching to not get lost still counts as cheating though. I love how the hot dog knights got lost just inside the entrance. Did Hot Dog Princess send them to their deaths on purpose?
The maze is a super cool location. I don’t think it quite counts as a dungeon episode, but it still retains a lot of video gamey elements. Some of the mini puzzles feel right out of Zelda. It’s cool seeing all the unique ways Jake’s powers allow them to bypass all the obstacles.
This episode shows how far Jake’s powers can really go. Jake’s abilities have a lot of untapped potential. We usually don’t get to see Jake’s stretching be used so efficiently due to his laziness and desire to have some conflict in his life. So it’s fun getting to see so many creative uses of his mutation. On the other hand, it's painful to watch Jake overexert himself. Jake’s thinned out body and discoloration is not a pretty sight. As powerful as Jake is, he does have a limit. While Warren Ampersand can stretch enough to make a planet, Jake only has half his DNA.
Unlike Finn’s total disregard for Jake’s well being and abuse of his powers in the upcoming “Jake Suit”, Finn is rightfully concerned about how far Jake is pushing himself. The hot dog knights cheer Jake on, which can be forgiven due to their established stupidity. It’s interesting how susceptible Jake is to peer pressure.
Finn really shouldn’t be poking Jake’s nerp. And for all we know that could be Jake’s stretched out asshole. Jake isn’t killed from the poison of the scorpion, which tracks with “Jake vs Me-Mow” revealing that Jake’s stretching can overcome deadly poison.
We finally see the true limit of Jake’s power as he stretches until he starts dying (Jake death foreshadowing). It was heartbreaking seeing Finn join in the chants for Jake to keep going. It’s a great moment for Finn, as he knows they need to get to the wishes so he can save Jake. The funniest part of the episode are the dumb wishes the hot dog knights make and the ways they all die. Finn and Jake failed their original mission in rescuing them, all of them really ended up dead by this episode’s end!
While you can excuse it with Jake’s exhaustion and being on the verge of death, Jake wishes for a sandwich for the first of many times. I’m not sure if Finn would really wish for the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant over saving Jake, but he listens to his brother. Luckily, it all works out. APTWE getting a wish is a cool solution. The war elephant also has a super rad design. I do wonder if Aquandrius’s wish magic shares any basis with Prismo and Evergreen’s magic.

2019-12-10: Something Big [166/283]
"How do you light a candle without a match?"
This is from my quest to draw a piece of pixel art for every episode of Adventure Time.
I want to know more about Darren and APTWE's past, but at the same time I like how mysterious they are.

APTWE really is the apotheosis of the strange and unique development Adventure Time had in its run. It got steadily more character and plot driven, as well as more serious.
(Still weird and with plenty of gags and jokes, but overall more serious)
But all that stuff from the earlier, lol random episodes? All canon, they all still happened. So you have a situation where the war at which is the emotional culmination of the entire series and all its characters, and then you have APTWE show up out of nowhere like "I HEARD THERE WAS A WAR" and it manages to fit in perfectly.
What even is this series
so like two years ago i introduced @swordaperson to Adventure Time. and because i knew that the earlier eps especially would be a hard sell i skipped over a bunch of early lol random ones.
i tried to make sure i captured all the plot relevant ones. early PB stuff, Marcy stuff, mushroom war foreshadowing, Ice King... I did a pretty good job, i think, for the most part.
the most part.

Sword: wait the what now Me: the ancient psychic tandem war elephant Sword: .... Me: you remember Sword: I most certainly do not Me: from the episode with jake stretching in the labyrinth with the hot dog guys Sword: .... No. Me: .... ohhhh wait i must've skipped that one Sword: What? Me: I didn't remember the ancient psychic tandem war elephant came back for a gag!
it wasn't a gag. it was a whole plot thread
man. this show.

Westland Widgeon Srs 2 ‘G-APTW’
flickr
Westland Widgeon Srs 2 ‘G-APTW’ by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n WA/H/150 Built 1959. On display at the North East Land, Sea & Air Museums (NELSAM), Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, UK. 11th September 2017 The following history on the Widgeon and for G-APTW in particular is from the very informative NELSAM website:- “The Widgeon was a civil development of the earlier Dragonfly, but didn't enjoy great commercial success and only fifteen were eventually produced. There was a plan to upgrade twenty four existing Fleet Air Arm Dragonfly’s to Dragonfly HC.7 standard (as the Naval Widgeon was to become) but this was abandoned and it influenced the decision to stop production. G-APTW was used by a number of companies as a corporate transport, but its claim to fame was appearing in the Alistair MacLean film "Where Eight Bells Toll" in 1971 (starring Anthony Hopkins, Robert Morley and Jack Hawkins) for which it was painted up in pseudo Royal Navy colours. It was withdrawn from service in 1973 and exhibited in a number of museums and collections before being acquired by NEAM in 1993.”

2019-08-14: The Limit [48/283]
"Actually, I'll do anything you guys want if you say my name three times."
This is from my quest to draw a daily piece of pixel art for every episode of Adventure Time.
Was feeling a little burnt out on the day I drew this, which is a shame because I really like this episode. I enjoy the exploration of just how powerful Jake really is. I would have liked to draw APTWE as well.

Amide proton transfer-weighted imaging to differentiate malignant from benign pulmonary lesions: Comparison with diffusion-weighted imaging and FDG-PET/CT
Purpose
To compare the capability of amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and FDG-PET/CT for the differentiation of malignant from benign pulmonary nodules.
Materials and Methods
In all, 82 consecutive patients with pulmonary nodules underwent APTw imaging and DWI with a 3T system, and FDG-PET/CT. All nodules were divided as either malignant (n = 49) or benign (n = 39) groups based on pathological and follow-up examinations. To evaluate the capability for differentiation of malignant from benign nodules, magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry (MTRasym)(3.5ppm) on APTw imaging, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and maximum value of standard uptake value (SUVmax) were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were performed to computationally determine each feasible threshold value. Next, McNemar’s test was used for comparing diagnostic performance with each other as well as with a combination of the significant factors determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis.
Results
Although sensitivity of ADC was significantly higher than that of MTRasym(3.5 ppm) (P = 0.002) and SUVmax (P = 0.004), specificity of MTRasym(3.5 ppm) and SUVmax was significantly higher than that of ADC (P < 0.05). Sensitivity of combined MTRasym(3.5ppm) with SUVmax was significantly higher than that of MTRasym(3.5ppm) (P = 0.001) and SUVmax (P = 0.002) alone. Moreover, specificity and accuracy of combined MTRasym(3.5ppm) with SUVmax were significantly higher than that of ADC (specificity: P = 0.002, accuracy: P = 0.008).
Conclusion
APTw imaging appears to be as useful as DWI and FDG-PET/CT for differentiation of malignant from benign nodules.
Level of Evidence: 2
Technical Efficacy: Stage 2

Amide proton transfer-weighted magnetic resonance image-guided stereotactic biopsy in patients with newly diagnosed gliomas
Publication date: September 2017 Source:European Journal of Cancer, Volume 83 Author(s): Shanshan Jiang, Charles G. Eberhart, Yi Zhang, Hye-Young Heo, Zhibo Wen, Lindsay Blair, Huamin Qin, Michael Lim, Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, Jon D. Weingart, Peter B. Barker, Martin G. Pomper, John Laterra, Peter C.M. van Zijl, Jaishri O. Blakeley, Jinyuan Zhou PurposePathological assessment using World Health Organization (WHO) criteria is the gold standard for diagnosis of gliomas. However, the accuracy of diagnosis is limited by tissue sampling, particularly for infiltrating, heterogeneous tumours. We assessed the accuracy of amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided tissue sampling to identify regions of high-grade glioma via radiographic-histopathologic correlation in patients with newly suspected glioma.Patients and methodsTwenty-four patients with previously undiagnosed gliomas underwent a volumetric APTw MRI prior to their first neurosurgical procedure. A total of 70 specimens were collected via APTw image-directed stereotactic biopsy. Cellularity, necrosis, proliferation and glioma WHO grade were analysed for all specimens and correlated with corresponding APTw signal intensities.ResultsThirty-three specimens displayed grade-II pathology, 14 grade-III, 15 grade-IV, and eight specimens revealed only peritumoural oedema. Multiple glioma grades were found within a single lesion in six patients. APTw signal intensities of the biopsied sites and the maximum APTw values across all biopsied sites in each patient were significantly higher for high-grade versus low-grade specimens. APTw signal intensities were significantly positively correlated with cellularity (R = 0.757) and proliferation (R = 0.538). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that tumour cellularity and proliferation index were the best predictors of APTw signal intensities.ConclusionAPTw imaging identified tumour areas of higher cellularity and proliferation, allowing identification of high-grade regions within heterogeneous gliomas. APTw imaging can be readily translated for more widespread use and can assist diagnostic neurosurgical procedures by increasing the accuracy of tumour sampling in patients with infiltrating gliomas. http://ift.tt/2udr9ak
