The baroque church of Cagsawa was originally built in 1587 in small town of Cagsawa. But it was burned down by the Dutch Pirates in 1636. In 1724, the church was rebuilt by Franciscan friars under Father Francisco Blanco.

On February 1,1814, the strongest eruption recorded the date of the Mayon volcano buried the town of Cagsawa and it's surrounding areas under several hundred million cubic meters of lahar, that kill an estimated 2,000 people. Hundreds of inhabitants of town of Cagsawa purportedly sough refuge in the church. Only the belfry and some parts of the convent survive today, though some parts of the crumbling facade we're still standing long after the 1814 eruption as attested by photograph.

Cagsawa was also subjected to the super typhoon. The ruins were unharmed even as the typhoon devastated the surrounding countryside with mudslide and lahar taht killed thousands of people.

Now it is one of the tourist spot in the Philippines. Even it start in unpleasant situation it become most popular place today. Some tourist come here just to see the well known Mt. Mayon. Their is so many thing you can do such as taking photos, eating different well-known foods, and souvenirs.

Most of the tourist amaze by the beautiful surrounding of its place. Some of them take this place as a venue for their proposal in wedding. Before this place kills thousand of people but now this is the place that can everyone be happy also they can appreciate the through beauty of nature. And the people take this opportunity to build a small bussiness.
