The Heritage Foundation — lead organizer of Project 2025, a sprawling effort to provide policy and staffing for a second Trump administration — recently promoted an apprenticeship program that opens up workers to increased exploitation. Heritage also criticized President Joe Biden for ensuring that most federal infrastructure contracting projects are covered by collective bargaining agreements.

In an article headlined, “Harris, Walz Policy Records Undermine Pro-Worker Rhetoric,” Heritage argues for a return to Trump-era apprenticeship policies that left new workers vulnerable by creating a two-tier workforce, and it disparages unions as detrimental to the working class. The result is standard-fare for the conservative think tank, which regularly attacks unions and promotes anti-worker policies like so-called right-to-work laws, which starve unions of funds by denying them the ability to collect fees from all the workers they represent.  As head of Project 2025, Heritage has waged an all-out campaign against unions and the entire working class. The effort’s policybook — Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise — calls for the dismantling of New Deal-era wins for organized labor by carving out state-level exceptions to the National Labor Relations Act. It would also eviscerate overtime regulations and open the door to increased child labor exploitation.

The new article furthers Heritage’s broadside against organized labor, even while masquerading as being pro-worker. Heritage criticizes what it characterizes as “the Biden-Harris Administration’s multi-front assault against apprenticeship programs,” specifically the administration’s cancellation of “new Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs,” or IRAPS, “that were training people in high-demand areas like nursing and technology, which now face significant workforce shortages.” In fact, IRAPs were a Trump-era policy that created a new class of apprenticeship programs that were controlled and overseen by employers — rather than the Department of Labor — and loosened standards meant to protect workers. As the progressive think tank The Roosevelt Institute wrote in response to the Trump-era rule, IRAPs are “likely to lead to a proliferation of programs that are lower-quality,” and could allow employers to exploit “loopholes in minimum wage laws.”

[...] This new salvo from Heritage is just the latest example of right-wing media pretending to endorse a pro-worker agenda, only to advance policies that benefit employers at the expense of labor.

"Ontario will allow students, starting in Grade 11, to transition to full-time apprenticeship programs while still earning a high school diploma, the government said Wednesday.

The move is part of a wider push to address immense labour shortages as the province looks to build some 1.5 million new homes by 2031, Labour Minister Monte McNaughton said at a news conference in Pickering.

Teens who enter the full-time apprenticeship programs, which take between two and five years, will be able to apply for their high school diplomas as mature students, the province says."

The Gravitational Waves Move By Speed Of Light The unified wave (the gravitational wave) moves by 205.8 km/s and it's reflected, the waves reflection causes to square the velocities (205.8 km/s)^2 = 42683 km/s Means the unified wave after the reflection moves by a velocity 42683 km/s BUT If a particle moves by speed (=0.99 C=297000 km/s), this high velocity motion causes to create relativistic effects specially Lorentz length contraction effect with rate 7.1 Means- the distances should be contracted by the rate 7.1 BUT The waves reflection causes to reflect the geometrical effects and by that the rate (7.1) will cause to increase the length in place of the length contraction- means- the distances will be increased with (7.1) as a result for Lorentz length contraction effect The velocity 42683 km/s will be 42683 x 7.1 = 300000 km/s (Speed Of Light) That explains how the gravitational waves move by (205.8 k/s) can move by speed of light (C=300000 km/s) NOTICE No. (1) Please note the important observation Without 7.1 the velocity will be only 42683 km/s (even after the waves reflection) and NOT the speed of light That tells- the light beam production process depends on the previous light beam production process- means- a motion by (99%) of speed of light should be found before the wave reflection occurrence and without this motion with (0.99 C) the gravitational waves can't move by speed of light because we need a source for Lorentz length contraction effect with rate (7.1) That tells the light production process is done in chain process, the new light beam production depends on the old light beam and if this dependency is removed the gravitational waves can NOT move by the speed of light and No light beam can be created in this case NOTICE No. (2) We need to pay more attention for the importance of the motion by the speed of light- because the technique of the machine depends on the waves reflection- means- the waves can increase its velocity only by the reflection process – now the reflection causes to square the velocities- this is very important news why?? June 8th- June 28th the best three weeks of my life so far. I spent those weeks in Hamburg and let me tell you I loved it obviously there were some ups and downs but they were quite minor things. I lived in Hotel & Restaurant Schröder placed in Groß Meckelsen. Me and my roomate (who we will not be talking about 🙄) were sadly isolated from the city as we were 60 km away from Hamburg with no transportation with exceptions on sundays. This wasn't a holiday but apprenticeships so my weekdays were very busy. I worked in housekeeping as well as a dishwasher.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone planning to self-learn programming? Honestly the industry is a maze to me, there's so many options and I don't know where to begin (especially since a lot of the sources you can find about where to start with self-teaching and programming in general is based on USA statistics and whatnot, which could misinform my expectations as I am not located in the US).

Honestly since I don’t know where you live, I can’t specific recommend any apprenticeships.

I live in the UK and in recent years the UK Government has basically pushed for more people to do apprenticeships in various areas and fields so you can literally find an apprenticeship in anything these days.

Those are the two resources I used to find my apprenticeship, I don’t know lots on all the apprenticeships available unfortunately 🥲

But I hope this helps you, I understand everything is very American based so kind of blinded to see the opportunities available to you in your own city or country! I would recommend an apprenticeship since they help you with the skills and experience as well as getting paid 😩🙌🏾

Often, the moral and philosophical values of a society imprinted themselves into the texture of the apprenticeship tradition, offering a way of learning that went far beyond simply mastering technique: It was designed to teach a student how to become a better person.

"The expectation – never once stated – was that I would be paying attention to what my teacher was doing, learning through observation alone how to do it correctly,” Brooks writes. “Rarely, when a teacher would demonstrate a technique to me, it was done with the utmost speed and obvious impatience on their part. When I was finally called upon to work, I was expected to do the work perfectly; if I did not, I was sent back to sweeping." While this may seem inefficient and even harsh to our modern ears, it was meant to instill values of careful observation, attention to detail, and above all, humility.

Call For More Higher / Degree Apprenticeships

I feel like we truly lost something as a society when we shifted from apprenticeships to internships. Like, at the end of an internship, your boss doesn’t give you some ceremonial object and pronounce you a master market analyst or whatever.

Like, I wanna just be able to walk up to a professional and say: if you teach me everything you know I will do whatever you say.

(Low key wondering if I could just roll up to an artist I like and ask for an apprenticeship. Who knows, it might work.)

and while we're talking about ageism in America, we can't untangle it from capitalism. why do apprenticeship initiatives run by the state only target high school students? is it because they're going to be trapped in a predatory contract that requires them to stay locked in this field no matter the abuse they face? are these programs not offered to people out of high school because an adult is less likely to make that choice as a desperate, slapdash attempt at security? are they not offered because anyone past high school age that would need an apprenticeship program is also too old to do that kind of hard labor/has already sold their 'best years' to capital?
