Death note au where the notebook was first found by Matsuda, who just tore a page out bc he needed to scrawl a reminder about his dentist appointment on something, but he doesn't actually take the rest of the book, just writes 'Dentist Office, March 15th, 7:30 am, do not eat before/after for an hour at least!!!!!' in the corner of his page and shoves it into his pocket. This happens during lunch so Light doesn't see it cause he's eating with his classmates. Ryuk follows them both around, but neither of them realizes what happened.

Light doesn't know that there's a missing page. Matsuda doesn't know the book had contained powers of murder. Matsuda thinks that he's just dealing with intrusive thoughts manifesting in a really weird hallucination but he's already adhd and in the habit of talking out loud, so he knows to hold up his phone to his ear when he and Ryuk talk in public. Ryuk tails them both, doesn't bring up that the book is technically owned by Matsuda to Light (of what the book actually was to Matsuda), and the case of finding Kira is about ten times more insane.

Matsuda talks to Ryuk more than Light would, but he can't use his phone during the investigation, so they figure out a pictogram way of talking before they all got moved into hq living spaces. Neither Misa Misa nor Light know why the fuck it looks like Ryuk is talking to Matsuda all the time. L is firmly torn between suspecting Light and thinking that Matsuda's doodles are a secret cryptography message that Light keeps looking at so maybe he's the mastermind (he isn't, mostly just talking about the weather or promising Ryuk apples). Light thinks Matsuda is onto him, but also he's playing L's massive mind games and realizes that if Matsuda dies anytime soon it's the worlds biggest clue that Light is Kira.

Matsuda is mostly just trying to figure out what the fuck to do with this hallucination that refuses to go away and keeps asking him for apples (and also how the fuck a hallucination is capable of eating apples in the first place).

Last time I said I was pretty sure this episode was packed with more exposition.

I was wrong.

The Plot

Coco is writing a letter to Milk to explain what they’re up to and ask about the status of the Palmier Kingdom. As he finishes, Syrup shows up, and Coco asks him to deliver the letter. Instead, the delivery boy dumps a bag full of letters onto Coco’s desk, explaining they’re from Milk. Nozomi says that since Milk took the time to write them all, Coco should properly respond to them. Individually. Nobody stops to say that maybe he should write one long letter that responds to all her points, because making jokes out of Coco’s misery is more fun. Meanwhile the girls all decide to go to the store for snacks. Because.

Meanwhile, Syrup decides to crash on top of the clock tower when his partner Mailpo shows up. Mailpo, for the record, is just an LCD screen with arms and legs, but they are the best mascot in this show. They spit out letters from their face-screen, which Syrup then delivers to their destination. In this instance Mailpo summons another letter from Milk. Syrup is frustrated and decides he’ll just take a nap and deliver it later, because there will probably be more anyway. Mailpo just wants to be a good little toy, so they set off to find the recipient themselves. Mailpo eventually stumbles upon Komachi and presents her with the letter before disappearing into thin air.

Over in Eternal, Anacondy drills Scorp about Precure. He admits that they weren’t especially strong, but they came at him from all directions. Bunbee chimes up that he’s familiar with this strategy, and Anacondy requests that he write up a thorough report.

Back at the plot, Komachi (now accompanied by Nozomi) looks for Mailpo, and they run into Syrup who is also looking for his friend. They coax him into letting them ride on him so they can search from the sky. While this is happening, Mailpo continues wandering aimlessly around the city, when they are accosted by a shadowy figure (Bunbee) who gives them a special letter to deliver. While trying to find their friends, Rin, Urara, and Karen along with Coco and Nuts spot another Palmin and give us a refresher on how to use the CureMo to catch it. It’s an apple. The girls all meet up and find Mailpo, who has a special delivery.... for Nozomi! It’s a letter. They think it’s from Milk until they open it.

Then the man himself appears on a nearby rooftop and explains to the girls that he works for Eternal now. He informs the audience how he survived his seemingly fatal fall from Nightmare HQ: he caught a ledge and then remembered he can fly. Then he transforms, as do the girls, and they clash. Bunbee is surprised by how much stronger the Precures are now, so he turns a mailbox into a Hoshiina. It knocks the girls around for a minute, and Bunbee takes the chance to seize Mailpo, believing they have the Rose Pact, but this just pisses off Mint, who chides him for taking advantage and diminishing the friendship between Mailpo and Syrup, so she unleashes her new attack: Precure Emerald Saucer. She summons a ring around her waist, raises it above her head as it fills in, and then hurls it at her opponent. It’s an interesting change from last season, where she was a shield user (though we know she could use them offensively). I imagine there were complaints that it wasn’t exciting enough. Anyway, her attack misses but causes Bunbee to drop Mailpo when he dodges, and then Dream uses Shooting Star to destroy the Hoshiina, and Bunbee flees.

A few days later back at Natts House, Coco and Nuts collapse after finishing writing the last of their response letters to Milk (to say nothing of how many more may have come in in the intervening time). Karen comments that they apparently haven’t slept in 3 days while they wrote them. (side note: please do not do this, it is not worth it) They ask Syrup to deliver them and he refuses because it’s too much work, but Mailpo jumps on the table and starts sucking them up, to everyone’s surprise. Syrup tries to stop Mailpo, screaming about how he refuses to deliver this many letters, and the ending plays.

The Analysis

I must once again point out that the art quality on display here is uh..... not great. To be fair, it’s not awful or anything, my screenshot gallery will make it seem worse than it really is because close-ups tend to be better but they don’t tell the story as well. If I got all close-ups I’d have to take more pictures and I’ve had a bit of a problem doing that. This is the first time in a while I’ve had fewer than 100 screenshots and I kind of want to keep this energy. ANYWAY.

I don’t hate this episode, I want to emphasize that early. But it doesn’t do much for me either. It just... exists. The main point is to establish Mailpo, who had previously appeared with little fanfare in the previous episode, so little that I didn’t bother mentioning them because I knew this episode showcased them more. Also I am referring to Mailpo with the singular “they” because they don’t display characteristics of any gender. Mailpo is Mailpo.

So, Mailpo, moreso than most fairies, seems to be meant as a toy first and foremost. As I said they’re just an LCD screen in a cute casing with penguin limbs. (surprisingly though, I wasn’t able to actually find a toy of it) Nevertheless, they have an innate charm to them. They’re kind of like a Pokémon, all they do is say their name... or the first syllable anyway: MEH! They’re very endearing, they waddle around and just do their best. They suck up and spit out mail like nobody’s business. You can’t not like Mailpo. 10/10 best fairy in this show. We stan a legend.

Speaking of toys, there’s a slightly higher than usual emphasis placed on them in this episode. I mentioned that we got a repeat on how to catch Palmins with the CureMo, but there’s also the curious case of some kind of interaction between the CureMo and Syrup. When the girls are getting ready to board him, Syrup has Komachi touch her CureMo to his wing, similar to scanning a pass at a train or bus terminal, and his wing turns into a set of stairs.

I have to assume this is some kind of feature on the toy, but it’s hard to find information on 12 year-old Japanese toys.

The most notable theme on display is responsibility. It’s not pounded over your head or anything, just shown in a few places. If Syrup had taken responsibility and delivered the letter, Mailpo wouldn’t have gotten lost. Coco and Nuts dodge their responsibility to write response letters to Milk, and at the end they’re exhausted from trying to catch up. Ironically the most responsible character present is Bunbee, who faithfully pulls off his duty to study the Precures and actually comes up with a decent plan to lure them out. I don’t know if it was meant to even be a theme of this episode at all, but that’s what I picked up on.

Some passing thoughts: Mint’s new attack is badass, I wish she’d gotten to use it to actually finish off the Hoshiina rather than just attacking Bunbee but oh well, she’ll get her chance to shine. The comedy on display is good, and there’s a fun callback to the previous season when Rin jokes about Karen’s grape juice and Karen responds by threatening not to buy Rin’s orange juice. I could watch a whole episode of the two of them just playfully annoying each other.

And once again I have to point out the logical shortcomings on display: when they receive a mountain of letters from Milk, they decide to respond to each one individually instead of doing the sensible thing of reading them all, assessing common themes and points, and responding with a single letter that covers all the bases. Japanese culture idolizes working yourself to exhaustion and taking very few breaks, it’s a serious cultural problem and it manifests in their art as well because it’s just so commonplace. I do have to once again say: please do not sacrifice sleep for your dreams or goals, or even your obligations. It’s bad for you.

The main objective of this episode is just to develop Mailpo and Syrup’s relationship, since they’re the new characters, and it works well enough. I already said it makes Mailpo very endearing and Syrup warms up a bit as well. He’s still stand-offish but not as much as in the previous episode. Mailpo brings out the best in him, and when Mailpo goes missing, Syrup feels guilty and wants to find his friend again. However, a second, more subtle goal of this episode is to remind the audience that Milk is still out there, in active communication with the team. It would be easy to write her off as being away in the Palmier Kingdom, but they make it a point to physically show her, if only for a minute, ensuring the audience remembers she exists and is relevant. For..... reasons.

(Good lord, episode 7.

Let me just say that it’s pretty crazy that we’re already half-way through the season now? It’s almost overrrrr.

But moving on from that, this episode starts out with Millaarc and Elsa forcing Elfnein to activate what they needed in terms of using Carol’s body.

I’m still really confused on what Millaarc’s ability does and it frustrates me because I feel stupid. Lol. I know it’s clearly mental and dealing with the mind, but it seems like it’s used in so many different ways now that I don’t even know how to explain it.

Regardless, she tries doing this again with Elfnein to destroy her mind. However, Carol literally bursts out of nowhere to stop her.

Now, I originally had a feeling that Carol would make an appearance not only because of where they were, but the summary itself, the top half of it specifically. The portion for the episode I mean is this:

If that which was sworn to be slain is put to words, erase them by plucking the strings from beyond zeros and ones. Discarded as unnecessary and unworthy, echoes of memories once lost linger here.

The “memory” mention is a pretty clear indicator to Carol, as they’re within the Chateau, Elfnein has been trying to reach back out to Carol now that they share the same body, and because Carol’s whole deal was dealing with memories. But what also stood out was the mention of “zeros and ones”.

Carol actually mentions “zeroes and ones” in her battle song (Senkin Dur da Bla) back in GX;

Nothingness is the only peaceful paradise What can I do but believe in that? I’ll expose and extol the providence of all creation With my music enshrined in 0s and 1s

So that just felt like a huge hint there too in that she’d make a reappearance somehow. I just wasn’t expecting it that early in the episode...nor did I expect the end, haha. I love Carol.

But regardless, this stops Millaarc immediately, and seems to end up hurting her briefly in the process.

Also, I was surprised that Miku wasn’t the cocoon thing. I thought she was, since that was what happened to Hibiki, but I guess the divine power didn’t actually go within Miku. Instead, it began to somehow manifest itself instead, thanks to her I suppose?

So, Tsubasa, Hibiki, Kirika and Shirabe go and engage in a fight with the strange deity with Chris and Maria trying to make their way there. But it’s a multi-dimensional being, just like the one in AXZ that I can never fully properly spell the name of.

And what stopped it last time was Hibiki and the so called “god-killer” ability, so that’s what she does. But the odd thing about it is that after Hibiki saves Kirika, she was caught in it. HQ says that it begins focusing energy on her instead, which I assume it was overloading her? But I’m not sure in which way.

Regardless, it’s enough to take Hibiki completely out of the fight, forcing Tsubasa to suggest they all retreat.

This thing looks so gross, haha. It’s like a giant, big headed...baby thing.

But anyway, they say Hibiki’s injuries are far more severe than they seem but no other details than that. Not sure how that is though but suppose we have to wait and see.

Also, Tsubasa’s smile was one of the preview pics for this episode and honestly, it was nice to see her smile...but I was worried about the context.

Something about her smile and comment just feels so off to me. Clearly she’s still not okay, and even Genjurou was surprised by her comment, so this doesn’t mean she’s better. No one knows that Tsubasa is dealing with that whole “seal” thing and we don’t even know how to break it so...I’m just not sure about it haha.

I talked to a friend saying that maybe she’s desperate for some good news or someone telling her she did a good deed? Or she’s trying to think of what Kanade would do? It’s hard for me to explain my feelings on this without making any sense.

After this, everyone on the bridge finally hears the ‘Apple’ song by rearranging the melody that Shem-Ha plays thanks to an idea that Maria had.

Maria makes reference to the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine, as that’s where she and Serena are from, which happened in 1986. It’s been officially stated (or at least shown in the second episode of XV) that the show currently takes place in the year 2044. Maria is currently 22, so that makes her born in the year 2022.

So saying that her ancestors have a similar song can hint to a lot, just like how Tsubasa’s comment leads to. Maria (and Serena) very well may be a descendant of the Annunaki/Custodians, or has a connection with them somehow. Now it’s just speculation but still, it has to mean something. They’ve been alluding to Airgetlam and ‘Apple’ ever since the second episode (at least the song they have) so I mean...it’s slowly but surely getting there. Lol.

Plus it was a massive trigger to bring the world together in song way back in G for them to get enough phonic gain to achieve their X-Drives back then.

After this, Hibiki has a brief dream about the conversation her and Miku had in the first episode. I never did talk about the first episode but this conversation was just throwing a whole bunch of red flags from the get-go. Miku posing the question if she was a burden on someone else, would Hibiki stop her but then turns around and jokes saying that it was a hypothetical question.

Of course I still think she meant this as her fear of being a burden on Hibiki (aka Miku’s guilt) but again, this seems like a re-imagining of that conversation.

It’s different in the fact that Miku says that if she’s ever a burden, that she wants Hibiki to stop her, that she’s the only one who can. Hibiki, throughout this whole exchange, is actually really confused while Miku continues on saying that she’s the only one that she “trusts with all I have”. And it ends there. I can see this being a possible dream of Hibiki where she’s re-imagining the scene but replacing it with the details she knows now, or kind of like her fears slipping in?

But then I saw someone else pose a possible idea of her and Miku actually communicating through the same dream since they’re both knocked tf out right now. Not sure which one is true enough but it very well could be Hibiki having a dream.

Okay, this second half of the episode is just pure gold for Elfnein. It’s a lot of little things that stood out to me too, not even just the big reveal at the end. Here’s one:

Elfnein gaining self-worth in herself ever since the end of GX. Elfnein, in her own way, has gotten so much stronger over the seasons and this whole half showcases that I think. But she’s stuck between Vanessa and co. since they’re trying to kill her. But the second she calls out for help---

THE PREVIOUS AUTOSCORERS COME BACK. I swear, I didn’t see this coming. Like, at all. I actually really enjoyed them back in GX, I found them to be interesting, even with their limited time on screen. The OVAs build on them more but I still felt there was enough there for them to be interesting and for us to get a feel on their dynamics together.

The next thing that’s great for Elfnein:

Elfnein being assertive. She decides trying to fight back and rescue Miku instead. It was strong enough to surprise Genjurou so I mean lmao.

Then another thing for Elfnein as a character. Noble Red catches up to them, so Phara and Leiur stay behind to slow them down while Micha and Garie lead Elfnein away.

Instead of apologizing, she chooses to say thank you instead. It’s something simple like that that shows how much Elfnein has grown too.

The next one is a comment that Micha makes. In the OVAs, Micha makes a comment of how it’s hard for her to hold hands with people due to her claws. She speaks about how she’s the “ultimate autoscorer” but she needs the help of Garie to literally do everything for her; collecting memories, holding hands, and even tying her ribbon.

So she was slightly bummed that she couldn’t help escort Elfnein away like Garie could because her hands were too big. 

But Elfnein tells her that she thinks her hands are “really cool” and she loves them. That gave Micha motivation to keep on fighting and made her happy. It was just something so simple and small that was really really sweet, especially knowing how Micha felt about her hands.

Noble Red catches up though, and defeats all of them easily. Garie was the last one to help Elfnein get away. And now that she’s alone, Elfnein is faced with the fact that everyone has helped her, but she wants to figure out a way to help them too. 

She wants to repay everyone back for their help and kindness but didn’t know how. And so, faced with an incoming attack from Vanessa, she ends up doing this:

She freaking summons the relic Dur da Bla and basically...Carol comes back. AND has a new song. Song is called “Echo of Sforzato”.

I was over the moon when this happened, haha. I couldn’t believe they’d actually have Carol come back in such a way? Again, the beginning is the only think I thought we’d get. But this? Good lord. It’s hard to explain my emotions about this episode because it was sooooo good for Elfnein especially in terms of character, same for the autoscorers. It touched on previous things about them in the OVAs, and added more to it, even if they only had small and limited cameos.

Also, one neat thing about the transformation Carol/Elfnein has is that in her hat, it shows the reflections of Leiur, Phara, Garie and Micha. The colors represented them before but the thing about it is that if you freeze frame the scene, it shows them making poses exactly like their “enemies” GX CD covers. 

Luckily someone made a picture of them all on twitter so I can paste them here haha.

There’s two because Micha is the only one that changes twice for both Shirabe and Kirika. This part isn’t even a second long, it zooms by SUPER fast, but the detail in it is amazing.

It’s just a REALLY nice callback that they probably didn’t even have to add in. Plus there’s some other cool “behind the scene” things they posted on twitter (official staff) that even other stuff they made was meant to reference past CD albums (Like Leiur and her “big sister” version of herself was to reference the GX concert cover with Maria and Tsubasa).

Regardless, yeah this episode was great with the callbacks and references. I enjoyed it and got emotional over it. It turned out to be a great episode for Elfnein as a character honestly, which isn’t what I expected but glad it happened. ♥)

4 Dating Resolutions To Make For 2018 That’ll Actually Help Your Love Life

One year, my New Year’s resolution was to not have sex for an entire year. You might not have as extreme dating New Year’s resolutions to make as I did, but let me tell you: Making that resolution was life changing for me. If you’re wondering, though, no, I did not make it an entire 12 months without having sex. But I did go more than a year without being in a relationship, which was my reason for making that somewhat unrealistic resolution in the first place. Prior to setting this intention, I hadn’t been single for several years. My resolution finally broke the cycle of me dating every single person I hooked up with.

Having that time to myself gave me the space I needed to get my priorities together and become better attuned to what I needed to nurture myself. I was able to pour the tenderness and care that I expended on relationships back into myself.

If singleness is not your goal, setting resolutions for healthier dating habits can still change your romantic life. The best way to really hone in on what would bring you happiness is to make a list of what you want in a partnership. Focus on your own strengths, and the areas in which you want to improve. Then, start taking actions every day to manifest that vision for your love life.

Here are some ideas to get you started, and how to actually stick to them.

1. Resolve To Change The Way You Meet People

Did you feel fed up with online dating in 2017? In the new year, resolve to find new ways to connect with people in person instead. If you felt like going the in-person route didn’t work out as well as you’d hoped this year, try to get into dating apps the next.

When you get offline, you start to notice the people in your social circle whom you never really paid attention to before. You might work harder to connect with new acquaintances and bond with friends of friends. And you might find that your schedule is freed up to pursue new hobbies that really interest you. If you feel like the internet’s well has run dry, connect with the people who are actually around you, and you might be surprised who you find.

On the flip side, if you’re deciding to give online dating a bigger shot in 2018, go all in. Set up a profile on as many apps as you’re comfortable with, and whenever you find yourself sulking about your singlehood, make it a point to swipe a little on each app. You never know what connection you might make.

2. Set Your Boundaries

What dating and relationship patterns would you like to break in the new year? Do you always end up in noncommittal, friends-with-benefits types of arrangements, when you really want to be with someone who’s willing to be steady? Do you repeatedly practice monogamy, when you actually identify as polyamorous?

Identify the ways in which you haven’t been true to yourself in previous relationships and write them down. Then, when you start dating someone, revisit the list as your relationship progresses. It’s all too easy to fall into something that you don’t actually want because you have feelings for someone. Checking back in with your intentions can help you make sure that, when something feels right, it’s actually right.

I don’t buy into that “nobody’s going to love you until you love yourself” BS. Plenty of people — friends, family, and lovers — have continued to love me even when I was down on myself. But I do think that being the best partner that you can be significantly improves your dating life, because it really teaches you how to be alone with yourself.

I’m not saying that you have to cut yourself off from dating in order to better date yourself. I’m just saying that you should take yourself on more dates. Go to the movies alone. Ask yourself what you want for dinner tonight, and then, cook it. You might not always love yourself, and that’s OK. But you and yourself are still stuck together forever. When you find ways to nurture the relationship you have with yourself, it helps protect you from toxic people who might come into your life. It will also help you create secure attachments in your romantic pursuits, because you won’t feel as dependent on a relationship to sustain you. Even when you’re down and full of self-loathing, treat yourself like your own best partner and watch the results.

4. Identify What You Want And Pursue It Unapologetically

Imagine your ideal partner. Not what they look like, not what they do for money, but what they actually bring you. What does a partnership actually mean to you? What kind of future do you want to grow together? Describe it in as full detail as possible, and don’t hold back. No one is going to have to see this but you.

It’s best if you keep the qualities general. You’re much more likely to find someone who wants to travel than someone who wants to go to Venice with you next month. But when you have the qualities you are looking for, consider the list your own private treasure map. Once you know what you’re looking for, it’s much easier to begin actually looking for it. 4 Dating Resolutions To Make For 2018 That’ll Actually Help Your Love Life

One year, my New Year’s resolution was to not have sex for an entire year. You might not have as extreme dating New Year’s resolutions to make as I did, but let me tell you: Making that resolution was life changing for me. If you’re wondering, though, no, I did not make it an entire 12 months without having sex. But I did go more than a year without being in a relationship, which was my reason for making that somewhat unrealistic resolution in the first place. Prior to setting this intention, I hadn’t been single for several years. My resolution finally broke the cycle of me dating every single person I hooked up with.

Having that time to myself gave me the space I needed to get my priorities together and become better attuned to what I needed to nurture myself. I was able to pour the tenderness and care that I expended on relationships back into myself.

If singleness is not your goal, setting resolutions for healthier dating habits can still change your romantic life. The best way to really hone in on what would bring you happiness is to make a list of what you want in a partnership. Focus on your own strengths, and the areas in which you want to improve. Then, start taking actions every day to manifest that vision for your love life.

Here are some ideas to get you started, and how to actually stick to them.

1. Resolve To Change The Way You Meet People

Did you feel fed up with online dating in 2017? In the new year, resolve to find new ways to connect with people in person instead. If you felt like going the in-person route didn’t work out as well as you’d hoped this year, try to get into dating apps the next.

When you get offline, you start to notice the people in your social circle whom you never really paid attention to before. You might work harder to connect with new acquaintances and bond with friends of friends. And you might find that your schedule is freed up to pursue new hobbies that really interest you. If you feel like the internet’s well has run dry, connect with the people who are actually around you, and you might be surprised who you find.

On the flip side, if you’re deciding to give online dating a bigger shot in 2018, go all in. Set up a profile on as many apps as you’re comfortable with, and whenever you find yourself sulking about your singlehood, make it a point to swipe a little on each app. You never know what connection you might make.

2. Set Your Boundaries

What dating and relationship patterns would you like to break in the new year? Do you always end up in noncommittal, friends-with-benefits types of arrangements, when you really want to be with someone who’s willing to be steady? Do you repeatedly practice monogamy, when you actually identify as polyamorous?

Identify the ways in which you haven’t been true to yourself in previous relationships and write them down. Then, when you start dating someone, revisit the list as your relationship progresses. It’s all too easy to fall into something that you don’t actually want because you have feelings for someone. Checking back in with your intentions can help you make sure that, when something feels right, it’s actually right.
