how mc and the lads guys got into a polycule

let's be real here, it was mc's idea. putting that aside, i'll be writing these thoughts down from a zayne main so we'll start with dr. husband

also also the setting for this polycule is that everyone's angst is lessened cause i think the boys deserve more cute and silly moments + interactions with each other uwu

Zayne ⛄

mc brought up the idea while zayne was in his home office, idly reading the reports on his laptop. he was surprised but intrigued at the idea, he wouldn't just agree to it willynilly tho as it's a concept he probably hasn't even considered for himself since he's happy just being married to mc.

zayne is a fairly secure type of man so, though he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable about the thought of an open marriage for a while. going through the throughs of his self worth, being enough and if it might be a sign that mc is suddenly unhappy with him, but mc reassured him that it was the complete opposite. the idea of trying out being in a polycule hung in the air for a good while and, almost half a year later, zayne finally gave mc his approval after being showered by affection and reassurance, regaining his full confidence in himself.

Xavier 💫

this might come as a surprise to some, or maybe it was expected. but xavier was the first person to be accepted into the polycule, one because he already knows mc's schedule to a t and he also knows what her work life is like. second, he had this habit of dragging you out of the battlefield for an impromptu nap somewhere quiet and safe while still being on the clock, especially when you're both ahead of schedule, which inadvertently keeps you safe. this wasn't an act of maliciousness, he just genuinely enjoyed mc's presence and feels safe around them.

although xavier did like mc a lot and was grateful to have been given a chance at a romantic relationship with her, xavier didn't just jump the gun at the opportunity. mostly since mc is already married, that and he wasn't really a fan of sharing at first but once him and zayne fell into a rhythm (zayne patches both mc and xavier after rough battles, xavier makes sure mc is safe, mc makes sure xavier stays out of the kitchen), he eventually lets himself indulge in not just having one, but two great cuddle buddies.

Sylus 🪶

gods, him joining in was absolute chaos at first. his presence in the polycule generated a lot of banter between him and the other two. not to mention, he's canonically 'arch enemies' with xavier. early on though, he can't help but think to himself... xavier is a great portable weighted blanket and zayne's wit and ability to match his attitude without losing most of his composure warmed his heart tenfold than when we has offered to join the polycule.

this man, just like zayne, is secure of himself. he doesn't see himself as any lesser than the other two, just different. and that difference makes for an entertaining live drama show that mc and, if he's not pulled into it, xavier likes to watch together.

Rafayel 🐟

oh my goodness did he add more chaos into the mix, one that's more dramatic but less 'destructive' than sylus's. he loves the attention he gets from everyone, especially coming from mc and xavier who, despite being a sleepy lil starboy half the time, is surprisingly good at picking up tiny details. rafayel's and xavier's banters are soft and teasing, they usually end up cuddling either in bed or on the couch as rafayel rambles away about his day and pretty much about anything and everything.

on another note, both him and sylus already knew about one another seeing their involvement and reputation in the shadows of society. it's a battle of sass between the two of them, but it all ends in laughter and casually sharing tea instead.

Caleb 🍎

(i feel a lot for caleb so this is gonna be slightly longer)

the last, most hesitant and untrustworthy of everyone else involved was caleb. he came in a lot later than the others and it was a challenge to even contact him in the first place. he already knew mc was not just married, but is a part of a very happy and surprisingly healthy and eventful polycule. it felt like his entire world had drifted so far away from him that he almost gave up on them, but he couldn't help but eventually reach out anyway. this time, it was him who asked about joining the polycule, to mc's surprise.

mc knew caleb, they knew their stance about being by their side and wanting to be the 'only one' for them, but their heart was swayed a certain path but never far from caleb. it was caleb who'd withdrawn after the marriage with zayne, but was now really glad to have given joining the polycule a chance.

zayne welcomed him in warmly, having known him the longest right beside mc. he gave caleb space for a while, reigning the others to do the same, just so he could have private time with mc. overtime, he'd eventually open up to the others. he was horrified of xavier's lack of skill in the kitchen, fascinated by rafayel's creative abilities and, sylus?

well, they got along surprisingly well. sylus has gone through an almost similar struggle caleb did and his unexpectedly calm demeanor helped him through the long journey of beating his own demons. sufficed to say, after everything, caleb would also become one of sylus's treasures.

Sylus: “Hm?”

MC: “…Did you guys get into a fight?”

Caleb: “No, why would you think that?”

MC: “Well the house is pretty trashed and you both are covered in bite marks.”

Caleb: “Ah shit. Sorry about that Pipsqueak, we’ll clean it up now.”

Sylus: “I’ll grab the broom.”

MC: “So you guys aren’t gonna explain why you two were fighting?”

Caleb: “We weren’t though.”

MC: “Okay then explain why the house is a mess and the bite marks.”

Sylus: “We were trying to see who was dominant between the two of us.”

MC: “…what?”

Sylus: “We were testing who was more dominant. Me or Caleb.”

MC: “…and the house is a mess cause why?”

Sylus: “We kept on pinning each other onto things.”

MC: “…Do I even wanna know about the bite marks?”

Sylus: “I don’t know. Do you?”

MC: “…no I do not.”
