Hands are nice so how about a hand sentence from your WIP? O:

Hands are nice. ‘Trust’ is basically ‘Affectionate Hand Gesture to the Shoulder: The Fic’ and I’ve accepted that. It’s a whole Thing. 

Two examples:

“But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same for you,” he said, gently squeezing her shoulder with his left hand. “You’re full of hope, Ruby, and hope can be a very powerful thing.” 

Hesitantly, Ruby imitated Ironwood’s gesture from earlier, reaching over and putting a hand on his shoulder and giving it a reassuring squeeze.

There’s like three more instances of Ironwood doing the fatherly hand on the shoulder thing during this Very long conversation, it’s basically his go-to ‘reassure the teenager’ move. (And in this fic it’s a deliberate call back to a nice moment from the first scene where we saw him and Ruby actually talking.)

C: What member do you identify with most?

Oh man. That’s actually really hard? Obviously I’ve done a fair bit of ego-involvement with the crispy boy (no really??) but overall in terms of personality I’d say I identify most with Maia, show!Jace, or Simon.

Maia has had a lot of shit happen but she’s incredible in how much she keeps working towards her dreams and supporting the people she cares about. As much as she knows and has learned to value and protect herself, she’s ferociously protective of her loved ones. She also has a fair bit of ambition, a strong sense of morality and justice, and feeling of responsibility--towards the pack, and for herself. I do see a bit of myself in her but more than anything I aspire to be more like her.

Show!Jace I relate to a lot mostly because I’ve projected on him so much (lol) but I really get a deep sense of struggling with himself and being closeted. He’s kind of depressed and sad and who can’t relate to that? But underlying all that he has a deep and almost desperate need for human connection and also he has daddy issues, so like, worm.

Simon is a giddy nerd who has a lot of weird shit happen to him and more than anything I think he’s just kind of...the everyman in terms of pop culture references etc. But he also has a heart of gold and loves like a golden retriever and who doesn’t want to be that?

To be honest I don’t really know why I latched onto Jonathan so much, other than the obvious daddy issues thing. Maybe it’s the frustrated sense of longing for belonging and connection, or the deep feeling of self-hatred or the profound desire to be better or different than he is. I think there are a lot of things Jonathan’s demon blood could represent that are a lot less esoteric or boring than “pure evil.” Also I just love tragic, powerful dumb bitches so yknow.

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Man I was literally JUST thinking about how much I’ve taken from JKR as a writer, not even on purpose but just in...she was the first writer whose work I truly soaked in daily for years and years, it’s not surprising I see her voice or her humor or her narrative/structural quirks coming out in my own writing.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Oh god, do I. I would say unhealthy power dynamics are both my catnip and kryptonite. I was actually just thinking about this too--I think the attraction for me is the catharsis of “controlled horror.” Abusive or coercive relationships in real life do literally terrify me, but I find them just short of fascinating in fiction. It’s like fiction allows me to experience and access and interact with that fear in controlled doses (like watching horror movies does for horror buffs), and that catharsis somehow translates as weirdly alluring.

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?

I already answered this but I’d say the above paragraph expresses it better.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)

I’m very much an obsessive planner, but weirdly neurotic about needing to be able to spin off whims or ideas as I go. I think having a sense of structure is essential, but allowing yourself the flexibility to look at the events you’ve planned or your ideas in new and creative ways is necessary to have anything new or spontaneous.

The backbone of the idea or plot usually comes to me as a whole, but I believe very strongly you need to allow yourself to innovate and spin off those ideas as the organic connections made as you write grow and mutuate the structure.

The first character I first fell in love with: I first read harry potter over 20 years ago so to be strictly factual, I have no idea -- but I’m gonna guess it was probably just harry himself? and he’s still my favourite soThe character I never expected to love as much as I do now: minerva mcgonagall for SURE, lil erin would never have called that she’d end up so high on my list of favourite hp characters (no.2!)The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I don’t hate him or anything, but tbh I never got the hype around lupin. he’s the Cool Teacher With Secrets in book 3 and then after that it’s like, yeah I guess you’re here too, ok The character I love that everyone else hates: I don’t think anyone perfectly fits the bill here, but the character I am most often tempted to defend is harry. Alastair: Alastair is That Guy who’s been dreaming about being a space explorer ever since he was a kid. It’s literally all he ever wanted to do, and the fact that he’s finally out there doing it? It makes him a bit emotional sometimes. And he always hoped that one day he’d be part of discovering something Really Significant, not for the fame or anything like that but simply for the pleasure of knowing that he helped to expand human knowledge. Which is something he uses as a bit of an emotional crutch to help him deal with the whole ‘made first contact with aliens by being abducted’ thing.

Charlie: He’ll play it off as a silly thing to wish for if you talk to him about it, but Charlie actually Really Really wants to see a space whale some day. No one knows if they actually exist and to be honest they probably don’t, but he’s lived in space his entire life and the idea of other creatures that live out there really captures his imagination.

Anwara: Anwara’s very much a go-getter sort of person- if she gets an idea into her head about something that she wants to do, she finds some way to go and do that thing. But one thing she hasn’t managed to do yet is take her mums on a trip to Earth to visit the parts of India and Pakistan that their ancestors are from. None of them have ever been to Earth, so it’s a shared family dream.

Flynn: Flynn doesn’t believe in wishes, but they’d be lying if they said they’d never indulged in some of the spacer wishing traditions they’ve picked up from Charlie. And the thing they always wish for (and if anyone knows this, they’re not to repeat it under pain of Severe Displeasure and also possibly death) is for their friends (initially just Charlie but later Alastair and Anwara too) to be happy and healthy and always in their life. Flynn is a lot more sentimental than they’re willing to admit.

Why is this event only for Three Houses?

It was my first exposure to the Fire Emblem universe, so I have a soft spot for it. With it being the newest addition as well, it’s likely on everyone’s minds. Perhaps more importantly, I didn’t want to step on the toes of the mods of Nagamas, who already have a Secret Santa event that spans all of the games.

What are the types of gifts involved in this exchange?

You can make and request fanfiction, fanart, or gifsets/other graphical edits.

Is NSFW content okay?

It is. There is a section on the signing up form that asks about this, both from a receiving side and a creating side. Of course, just because you and your recipient are both okay with NSFW content doesn’t mean you have to make something NSFW.

Can I ask for OC or Reader x Canon content?

Unfortunately, for the sake of simplicity, we’re just keeping this exchange to canon characters.

Am I allowed to reach out to my recipient before I give them their gift?

Yes, of course! Just be sure to keep your identity a secret until the big finale. c: You can just send them well-wishes or even ask for clarification on what they want. It’s also perfectly okay to not mess with anonymity at all and only contact your recipient when you give them the gift.

What if I didn’t get a person to make a gift for?

Send me an ask on here or on Twitter at the same username so I’m aware. I’ll respond as soon as I can with a name.

What if something comes up and I’m no longer able to participate?

Let me know on here or on Twitter so that I can reach out to a pinch hitter to come to your rescue. There’s no shame in having to drop out, so don’t hesitate if you think you might have to. It’d be better for your recipient to have a pinch hitter swoop in than to have any delay with their gift.

What if the gift receiving window closes and I still haven’t received anything?

Where do I post my gift?

You have a few options.
