Every time I show my friend ur art he says "this guy watched Invader Zim as a kid"

HAHAHA XD that uh totally delights me. like that youd share my art and they recognize that!! i actually didn't watch ANY invader zim as a younger kid, we were too poor for tv networks growing up and internet fast enough to watch video didn't reach my area til i was in the fifth grade, i think. I had a super edgy era when I was 16, i think? Got really into invader zim and jhonen's other works. So yeah he's totally right LOLLL

Back when I first got into homestuck again as an adult, my first idea was to make an episodic fanfic where each of the trolls attempts to take over the world with a different stupid, STUPID plan. It was up to the beta kids to stop them. As troll was defeated, they'd settle down around the area and would be living their lives in the background, and might help interfere with the next invader's plans for their own reasons. I ended up wanting to focus on less characters, and after a bunch of stuff happened I ended up with Aphids. The inspiration is sooo there though.

I love it when Irkens are mentioned existing in fanfics about trolls in the background. It's like when metroid and kirby show up as the same universe, its so funny to me. Idk if Irk is cannon to any bugstuck though--i'd love to make my old kirby works cannon to bugstuck, but the physics and rules of the universes are too different.

So it's pretty much confirmed that PNF-404 from Pikmin is Earth in the distant future. Any thoughts on what the native creature enemies are descended from? I hc Bulborbs as some kind of derived gastropod that convergently evolved a pair of vertebrate-like legs (since the Bulborb Larva is legless), and the Pikmin themselves as a composite organism between a highly-specialized social insect and a Cordyceps-like plant that, rather than being parasitic is instead mutualistic.

Most of the creatures aren’t too different from their inspiration so it’s pretty easy to tell what they are. The grubs and beetles are grubs and beetles, the clamclamps are clams, the wollywogs are frogs, the mites are mites, etc.

Others are just completely out there and impossible to truly tell what they are. Like the wraiths, mamuta, honeywisps, and the Longlegs and Gatling groink. The last two honestly feel like leftover biotechnology.

Some we’re actually told what they’re descended from or related to, which is also usually believable. So like the Hermit Crawmads being hermit crabs or the skitterleaf being a water strider.

The “Scarpanid” family I’d hesitantly call beetles.

The Goolix is just a giant amoeba, which isn’t too out there considering there are plenty of giant unicellular organisms IRL (algae, seaweed, slime molds getting ready to reproduce, Xenophyophores, etc).

Snagrets are likely very strange birds. They could be descended from any number of burrowing birds or even passerines, which make up 60% of all birds and owe their success partly to a genetic code that is predisposed towards speciation.

Blowhogs I’ve always been unsure of but the tusked blowhog in 4 indicates that they’re possibly pigs. While the tusked blowhog isn’t a true blowhog it could be a primitive close relative that lies just outside of true blowhogs. I think Porquillion could also be related.

Vehemoth seems like a weird aerial salamander.

The meerslug is probably descended from a fish of some kind. One that burrows.

Dweevils I’m not entirely sure on.

There’s so many pikmin enemies that I’d be here all day covering them so I’m just skipping to the Bulborbs.

I’ve mentioned that I love @just9art’s slugborb theory even if it had to handwave that breadbugs are canonically not too closely related to grubdogs. I also just love the artwork and am so sad that their renditions of the grubdogs are not real animals I can hold. However, Bulborbs and breadbugs are so nondescript that people have purposed that they’re possibly terrestrial mud skippers or anglers (specifically ones like handfish) and they all work. As for pikmin, I do think a lot of the mobile plants form a family, which includes pikmin. But pikmin themselves are very weird (from here on is spoilers for PIKMIN 4).

Pikmin seem to be composite organisms, but apparently they can also force horizontal gene transfer onto other organisms as seen in the bad end for pikmin 1. This is also a main plot point for the fourth game as the main antagonist is actually Olimar being pikminized. All of this means that pikmin might not even be a species in a traditional sense.

Speaking of spoilers for 4, the final boss is a giant dog like Oatchi and is heavily implied to be a feral version of the ancestor of Oatchi’s kind. Meaning that they might actually be earth canines. However, the various spacemen of the games are also said to have had these canine companions for a long time, which could also mean that Olimar and co aren’t actually aliens, but descendants of humans who took dogs with them to space. While they evolved to be tiny (just barely big enough for their inner ears to still work), they selectively bred their dogs to be like jerboas. Humanity has been away from home for so long they don’t even remember it.

Hello!! As you may or may not know, I've recently been designing a lot of fun characters based on real life spider species, and other arachnids as well! It's been a minute since I've shared any of these designs, so I figured I'd show off some more of them today! I also had my wonderful biologist friend @aphid-kirby help me identify some of these real life spider species, since I usually just search "cool spider photos" on google images for inspiration without caring what I'm actually looking at. So let's check out some more characters based on these real life spider species!

Here's Jambo and J.J., based on the Chirotheca telaincola and Ambulorbis psychedelia, respectively. In real life, these two species, despite not being very closely related, are both commonly referred to as "Scuttlebugs", causing some confusion for which one is actually being referred to. For that reason, I thought it would be fun to make them siblings! Jambo is the rowdy but protective big brother, and J.J. is the cute but also strange little sister.

This is Giacomo, based on the Triplumoculus spissumembrum. The real life species is known for it's three equally sized eyeballs, as well as it's floating limbs. Nature is crazy! Giacomo seems laidback on the surface, but he actually thinks quite highly of himself. If you were to have the right "Ability", so to say, you might be able to "cut" him down to your level. Or something.

Craftwell here is based on the Araneacaudex luxtranquilium, a tarantula known for it's strange blocky-like appearance. Similar to the real species, Craftwell is quite polite during the day, as he's quite the social butterfly, despite his bookish appearance. During the night, however, he gets VERY sucked into his hobbies of reading and writing, and it would be a grave error to disrupt him at this time of day. He drops String and Spider Eyes.

Dash is based on the Celericaecilia rubrumacula, a very tiny red spider capable of running quite quickly, and is known for being much more aggressive their blue-colored relatives. Dash is just a little guy :) In his design, I made sure to reference the many defining features of his real life counterpart, such as

This is Goldie, based on the Cephalospica retropoda, a spider with very distinct coloration that is also known for it's horn-like protrusion and strange placement of it's back pair of legs. Scientists still don't know why this species Evolved like this, but according to the Pokede- I mean, uh, scientific reports, they can't even tell it's front from it's back, so whose to say. Oh, and, uh, Goldie is, uh... cool... and red :)

My good friend Mr. Glove is based on the Myriachirotheca manususpendium, a spider with very strange behavior, in which it weaves it's web into glove-like accessories, despite spiders not having fingers! How weird! But it makes for a good anthro design, so that worked out huh! Mr. Glove is sort of an eccentric salesman, who would be happy to weave you your own pair of gloves. For a Price.

Stabitha is based on the Confodiopoda homophagus, a terrifying spider known for hiding in the shadows due to it's almost entirely silhouetted coloration, waiting to strike at it's prey. This spider doesn't just bite it's prey however, but it'll actually stab it with it's sharp legs! Yowch! A spider that sits and waits... hunting it's prey... such a violent and aggressive method of attack... so of course I turned it into a Hot Woman.

Quick 3 am doodle of my Kirby oc aphid who im going to draw way later,, extra info below the cut

So I got this idea randomly. Why not have a knight everyone thinks is a feline because they rarely have their wings out and their helmet has CAT EARS ON IT,, so meet aphid! The knight everyone thinks is a furry but literally wants to just slay nightmares. HES so done with everything and just wants to lay down and nap man. His sword is called the syrup sucker and opponents can get stuck onto it and need to be shaken off violently
