busy as of late. this was a body hair / tattoo practice ft. Rodrigo/ the Bronx. Lol I wanted to give him these stereotypical Nuyorican and Irish-American tattoos that I see everywhere (cause he's both), and now I think lowkey imma keep it + the body hair.

Manhattan: Well Tony and I are filthy rich! I mean we were always rich, we’re both cities. Well Tony isn’t anymore and he wasn’t always as rich as me. The rest of them are well the usual, kinda poor I guess. Whatever without me, they’d all still be farming. Now they’re all doing construction and what not.

Brooklyn: Was any of that necessary to add?

Staten Island: Oh my god! You’re Mr. Italy right?!

Romano:…uh…sure…

Queens: Should we help him?

The Bronx: With Frank, it’s all souls for themselves.

So yeah, Brooklyn and Manhattan are and were on the more wealthier side than the other boroughs. Up until the turn of the last century, most of the other boroughs with the exception of Manhattan and Brooklyn were mostly farmland. Also duahshs yeah I guess it does have Great Gatsby vibes lol. And everyone who guessed the pose in the opening post, here’s a gold star ⭐️

Bronx, do you ever have to correct people that it was you that invented salsa dancing?

The Bronx: Ugh constantly! I’m the sole inventor of salsa dancing.

Day 1- History - NY Salsa

So salsa dancing began to gain popularity in New York starting in Spanish Harlem (East Harlem in Manhattan) & the Bronx. It traces its origins back to Cuba and dances such as the mambo, cha cha cha, and son montuno. But the salsa that starts up in New York was primarily brough over by the Puerto Rican community ( Nuyorican = New York Puerto Rican ) starting as early as the 1940s.

And ever since salsa was created various countries, regions, and cities have their own salsa style such as in Cali, Colombia (this cute Colombia belongs 2 @ask-the-dominican-republic qwq I hope I got her right).

Ok ok so how did salsa end up in New York? Immigration. And how did New York get a salsa style? Well ok, so if you just moved to New York well into the 1970s you’d might go to dancehalls to meet other people. There were lots of dancehalls specifically meant for people of different ethnicities such as Irish, Italian, Polish, German, Russian, and versions other dancehalls. This was how you’d meet people of a similar background of you and how you began to be part of a community. When Puerto Ricans and other groups from the Caribbean and other places in Latin America began to arrive they’d go to these dancehalls which was how New York salsa was born (idk much about actual dancing ok, but they start on 2).

As for Rodrigo (the Bronx), he likes to claim he invented salsa. That’s debatable. He doesn’t always openly like to admit he salsa dances, but he enjoys it very much and occasionally has gotten the other boroughs involved. Although be warned, don’t partner with Frank (Staten Island) if you’re gonna dance salsa.

What neighborhood do they live in?

Lynn (Manhattan) lives in the Upper East Side. xoxo gossip girl here. It’s expensive , the way she likes it.

Tony (Brooklyn, lol I changed his name cause I didn’t like it) lives in Carroll Gardens. He moved there around the 1870s, easier access to New York City.

Rodrigo (The Bronx) lives in Morrisania. He’s lived here since it was the Morris Manor.

Andy (Queens) lives in Elmhurst. He’s moved around a few times, he lived in Flushing for a while, but decided to settle in Elmhurst in the 1950s

Frank (Staten Island) lives in Old Town. This was where the original Dutch settlement in Staten Island was located. It was called Oude Dorp.

Queens, which neighborhood is the best?

Queens, looking carefully up from his phone: It depends to be honest, and also for the record I’m the largest borough so I got way more options of neighborhoods to choose from. But I can give you a few that I like a lot personally (most of these reasons have to do with food…)…so Astoria, Flushing, Jackson Heights, and Breezy Point. I’m usually in one of those four fairly often- also please don’t like hunt me down thank you.

Queens: But I should mention they’re all equal in my eyes-

The Bronx: Lies! You’re avoiding the question! He’s afraid of giving one answer.

Queens: Madden, you have five seconds I swear to god when I get over there it’s over for you.

Any rivalry against LA? (I remember in a book, the author, who's from NYC, said when his friend moved to LA, they all joked it was a betrayal, b/c LA thinks it's the center of the universe when NYC is the REAL center of the universe, lol)

The Bronx: To be honest, there’s no real strong rivalry between NYC and LA. It’s more east coast versus west coast shit. So the entirety of the fucking east coast versus the entirety of the west coast with usually Jennie (New York) and Bella (California) leading the whole thing…They have a weird ass friendship going on I don’t care to explain that though. Oh and yes, we are the center of the universe.

NY: We all know the east coast is superior

CA: West Coast, best coast. Need I say more?
