“400 million years of evolution made a perfect predator, and making eye contact with them is such a humbling and amazing thing (also extremely important when swimming with them). Every dive I fall more and more in love with these animals and the amount of respect I have for them only grows. #sharkidfrankenfin #apexpredatorsnotmonster @oneoceandiving @oneoceansharks 📸: @maddiejooste” Love this post and photo from One Ocean interns @sarahdetmering and @maddiejooste (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzjff0oHS-C/?igshid=e99rih9i0aiz

#Repost from @juansharks with @ming.app . How can u tell when a shark is becoming territorial or disturbed with you in its personal space? This shark was not happy with me or my camera @aquatech_imagingsolutions at this moment. In @oceanramsey ‘s book “What you Should Know About Sharks” she thoroughly explains behavior like this , jaw gapping, gill popping, pectoral dropping, arching, and much much more. I got this photo behind the safety of a cage. I do dive with white sharks With no cage but I trained for years to be able to read shark behavior like this and know when I need to exit the water immediately. Always being respectful and aware of any shark ur diving with but white sharks demand respect and years of diving with other species of sharks 1st. It is never that they see humans u as food items but u do not want to pick a fight for territory with one or be mistaken for something that they do want to eat, like a seal or a tuna. #ApexPredatorsNotMonsters #coexist #whiteshark #greatwhiteshark #mexico photo taken with a @canonusa 1Dx mark 2 looking forward to our next trip @silenthunter_pty https://www.instagram.com/p/B4xlho3hRaC/?igshid=11g4elqqx5gmd

#Repost @oneoceandiving ・・・ Incredible repost from our co-founder @juansharks 📷🦈 ・・・ So big she won’t even fit in my wide angle 16 to 35mm lens @canonusa @aquatech_imagingsolutions Check out @savingjawsmovie to learn more about sharks and why sharks are so important to the oceans ecosystem. @oceanramsey pictured here showing what is possible. The idea that sharks see humans as food source and the fear that media pollutes us about sharks is rubbish. Coconuts are more dangerous than sharks. I’m not saying sharks are not dangerous as a apex predator, but far from the monsters they get portrayed as in most films and traditional media. Humans and sharks can #coexist and need to, for the survival of our ocean. Repost from @juansharks PERSPECTIVE ❤️ Deep Blue going straight to @oceanramsey If you are ever approached by a large shark, this is how you want to respond to it, swim away from it slowly to give the shark space in case it is being territorial and always keep eye contact, never turn away and act like prey. So much more that needs to be applied for diving with sharks safely, to #coexist Ocean wrote a nice disclaimer for people wanting to just jump in the water with a shark like Deep Blue. Disclaimer: I highly discourage people from jumping into the water purposely with Great #WhiteSharks and TigerSharks and all sharks should be given respect as space as wild animals and PROTECTION from wasteful killing for their important ecological role. I work daily in the water with sharks as a shark biologist and teach public and professional safety programs through @OneoceanResearch and @OneOceanDiving and through a number of our international projects which also includes #greatWhiteShark research specifically. I try hard to replace fear with scientific facts and encourage a healthy level of respect for sharks as #apexPredatorsNotMonsters but not puppies…but not monsters. They are sharks and I love and respect them for what they are. Yes I absolutely LOVE sharks and have a deep understanding and respect for their capabilities combined with well over a decade of full time experience working in-water with them.  My life mission, passion, and I think purpose is to help further conservation efforts for them through research, conservation, design, and immersive and impactful programs and outreach. Please check out all the divisions of #OneOceanDiving listed below for more information and please help us to ban #sharkfinning #sharkfishing #sharksportfishing and #sharkculling around the world. I just found out the the bill to ban the purposeful killing of sharks and rays in Hawaii will be re-introduced this year in both eh house and senate following all the positive shark press that has come from this incredible encounter in the last few days. दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी शार्क से हुआ गोताखोर का सामन, 2500 किलो वजन - Deep blue one of the largest ever recorded great white sharks
Tumblr media

Disclaimer: I highly discourage people from purposely jumping in the water with great white sharks or tiger sharks or any large shark like a bull shark or a Galapagos, even smaller sharks are capable predators who need and deserve respect however they are not the mindless monsters they are portrayed as in the media as you can see. In my experience this is the most mellow #whiteshark I have ever had the privilege and honor of meeting. I have been working with great whites for over 10 years and with sharks in general for over 15 years full-time I work with sharks on a daily basis in a safety and research and conservation program. #saveSharks Sharks are being killed at a rate of 70,000,000 to 100,000,000 please help save sharks. They are Important for a healthy marine ecosystems, and they are beyond amazing 😍😍😍😍#SaveGreatWHITESHARKS !!!

#Repost @ecoceanic @angels.of.the.sea 🌍👈🏻❤️ 🔴 Most Australians would be horrified to know that we participate in the global shark fin trade. Australia still imports shark fin from places like Hong Kong and Indonesia that do not comprehensively regulate harvesting of sharks and unsustainable practices like live shark finning. 🏮WHY? Shark fin soup has been a traditional east Asian dish, symbolic of wealth for several hundred years. In recent decades the popularity of shark fin soup has soared and the effect on wild shark populations has been disastrous. ❌Shark finning is when the fins are cut off sharks, and the bodies are then tossed back into the water to die an undeserving painful death❕ 🌍You may think your country is safe with strict shark laws but please be sure. For example, even though shark finning practices are illegal in the United States, fins are still imported from other countries where finning is legal. While demand for their fins remains high, shark finning will continue to occur in parts of the world where sharks are not protected by legislation.  Increased public education regarding shark conservation and welfare may reduce consumer demand for fins.  Additionally, public health warnings may decrease shark fin soup popularity, as fins have been found to carry high levels of mercury☠(a neurotoxin) and therefore consumption carries a risk of mercury poisoning. 💙 Sharks provide so much for the ocean and the earth and humans are completely disregarding all that they do in exchange for a tasteless cruel delicacy. Let’s coexist, let consumers, importers/exporters the importance of sharks maintaining a critical balance in ocean ecosystems. Please spread awareness, sign local petitions in your country, and keep fighting to save these #apexpredators. 😿💙🦈 📝Written by @oceanmelii Photo: @adventurer_andy @oliviasymcox @aliwal_shoal_advemtures 🌊 #ProtectWhatYouLove #ApexPredatorsNotMonsters #ExtinctionIsForever #angelsofthesea

Due to consant demonization of sharks in the media MANY are afraid all sharks are actively seeking to bite and eat people. So now we have the majority of our species terrified of the very existence of one of the most important parts of the ocean. Sharks have been around for over 450 million years. They've kept the ocean in balance since before trees were in existence. They're #ApexPredatorsNotMonsters and regardless on whether you like them or not, no matter how far you live from the sea, you do need them. #oneoceandiving #nakaweproject #sharktopia. 🌊 Say NO to #sharkfinsoup #sharkculling #sharkcull #sharkfishing #marktheshark #landbasedsharkfishing #ladypamela2 #teamgetbentlbsf #filletandrelease #sharkhunters #sharkhunting #ocsharkhunter #sharksonsand EVEN #catchandrelease #catchtagrelease #apexpredatorprogram the post release mortality rate is too high! #หูหลาม #鱼翅汤. Shark whisperer @juansharks embracing the love coming head on from one of our favorites, #Moana 🦈 Encounters like this are made possible due to education and understanding as well as mutual respect. Our crew is never naive to the fact that these creatures are in fact apex predators and wild animals, however with strong backgrounds/knowledge of shark behavior we are able to #coexist peacefully! 😌 ・・・ This is what happens when @oceanramsey takes my @aquatech_imagingsolutions camera housing away from me. #Moana the tiger shark looking for her opportunity for a hug from me. I didn’t want to make #Nikki the tiger shark mad so I had to decline on the second photo.  All fun aside, Moana was just curiously coming in close and I’m just using my hands to keep a little space between us. Would she have gone for a bite, in my mind the answer is no way.  However, sharks in the end are wild animals and need to be respect as an apex predator but are not the monsters that traditional media wants us to believe.  With a little bit of shark behavior knowledge, humans can share the ocean like Hawaiians have for generations.  To learn more about Hawaiian cultural connections to sharks and the ocean check out @oneoceanhawaii and to get to know sharks on a personal level come dive with me and the team @oneoceandiving in Hawaii.  #ApexPredatorsNotMonster #cagethefear #coexist #weneedsharks #savingsharks is #savinghumans #savingjaws #savingjawsmovie #oneocean #onechance #helpsavesharks https://www.instagram.com/p/BnC2NMphoJq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13cjda40b1cnu

Some of the best encounters, brought to you by @juansharks 🦈💙 The ocean is a beautiful place and the creatures that choose to show up are the most incredible. But there’s nothing quite like the feeling of having a tiger shark appear on one of our pelagic dives. Differently than what the media reports, tiger sharks are very shy. They rarely come close enough to get a good photo and they are easily spooked. Photos like this one are a joy to see! Photo by @juansharks ・・・ This past month has been a bit of a whirl wind 💨. Non stop working @oneoceandiving going late into the night with sunrise starts. Love the whole team we have and I appreciate all the hard work everyone has been putting in building the new #SharkHouse and taking the research, conservation, and everything to the next level. Fueled all by @guayaki ! #cometolife This is a split image of a tiger shark I got during a @oneoceanresearch pelagic dive. Shot with @aquatech_imagingsolutions using @canonusa 1dx mark 2 24mm Lens Setting 1/640 shutter 11f stop 400 iso. #mycanonstory #teamcanon this photo was not taken from a boat. Although I was diving with @oceanramsey who always has my back so I can focus on shot like this without having to spread my attention. #respect #ApexPredatorsNotMonster #tigershark #shark #sharks #needprotection #helpsavesharks #oneocean #onechance #oneoceandiving #coexist #sharkconservation photo by #juanoliphant @xcelwetsuits @cressi1946 @north_sails https://www.instagram.com/p/Boz4h0uhy_R/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1cxgvq7n3v455

Do you still think sharks are monsters? ... Or more like the cutest thing you’ve seen today? A baby black tip reef shark coming to say hi to @juansharks 😍 ・・・ Baby black tip reef shark meets toes for his 1st time and I still have all of my toes. #smartbaby Really considering how much a splashing humans looks like a hurt injured animal swimming or surfing that sharks don’t make more mistaken Identity bites. With only an average of 8 to 10 deaths from sharks a year, humans have really no reason to fear sharks and sharks have every reason to fear us,as humans we kill 100 million sharks each year. #stopthecull #stopthefear #cagethefear #ApexPredatorsNotMonster #helpsavesharks #sharethetruth #coexist #oneocean #onechance https://www.instagram.com/p/BpFl0mVhOtS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=oclnnniw0te2

We provoke a shark every time we enter the water where sharks happen to be, for we forget: The ocean is not our territory - it's theirs. - Peter Benchley #Repost from @juansharks with @ming.app . Coming for u! Love this dead on approach. On our way back to Isla Guadalupe where white sharks are protected. love that the Mexican government has made this island a MPA. There are studies showing the importance of these marine protected areas. These areas once protected allow the ocean time to recover from over fishing and have been proven to actually make fishing better with a over spill of marine life leaving the area. If we can protect 30 percent of the oceans with MPAs by 2030 the ocean might just survive human impacts. #savetheocean #helpsavesharks #ApexPredatorsNotMonsters #whiteshark #sharks #shark #coexist shot with @aquatech_imagingsolutions @canonusa diving with @oceanramsey @silenthunter_pty https://www.instagram.com/p/B4EKq5pBqJ7/?igshid=1qv6141tsn83j

#Repost @juansharks 💙💙🦈 ・・・ This is my friend @amirzakeri enjoying a trip out with us @oneoceandiving The below caption is inspiring word by him. I have so much respect for this guy and the devotion he gave to his film @savethereef “how to save the world in 50 mins”. Please check it out if u haven’t. I have also included a raw image on my last photo like my braddah @nolanomura dose to show what a little contrast and white balance can do to make ur photo pop. @amirzakeri ・・・ Let’s dive deep. From above, the ocean looks blue and perfect, it’s hard to imagine it any other way. The moment you go beneath the surface and succumb to the sea, you see it for what it really is. There’s very few untouched marine areas that remain pristine… the rest are suffering. The majority of the planet is covered in water, and although we spend a majority of our lives on land it is essential we do our part to protect what provides for us. Most of the oxygen you breathe won’t be around in our lifetime if we don’t save the reefs and marine life! The apex predators of the ocean, sharks, are in critical danger and need our attention. 70-100 million sharks are killed annually, primarily for shark fin soup. Think about that number… sharks have been around longer than dinosaurs and in the matter of a couple hundred years we are sending them to extinction. The media slanders sharks reputation to capitalize off selling fear but that misconstrued portrayal has left people blind to the truth that we need them for the survival of our ocean ecosystems. No sharks = a collapse of the ocean system. 📸 @juansharks. #ApexPredatorsNotMonsters #coexist #savethereef #savetheocean #helpsaveshark #sharks #sharkdiving #hawaii #sharkdive #oahu #swimwithsharks (at North Shore, Haleiwa, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5ybddTH1P3/?igshid=10uy9d8scr7p4

Beautiful photo from one of our co-founders @juansharks during an incredible, species-diverse dive 🤩📸 We love having these special moments captured on camera to look back on 💙 ・・・ A tiger shark in a jungle of sandbar sharks.  There is actually 4 different types of sharks in this photo.  The larger one closest to the left corner is a Galapagos shark and in the background there is a oceanic Blacktip. What is really special about this photo is it all four species we’re OK with each other for this moment.  Usually when you have a  tiger shark approach it tends to disrupt the schools of sandbar sharks or Galapagos sharks.  This was shot just a few days ago at @oneoceandiving  The weather conditions are looking like this for the weekend.  We get our strong trade winds back on the 12th with a large 20ft face swell on the 13th so if u were thinking of coming diving with us this week come out this weekend. I was using the pistol grip to shoot images from the boat @oneoceandiving when a large Galapagos shark ripped it out of my grasp. Check out this awesome photo captured by staff photographer @chiaraphoto of our cofounder @juansharks with a large female tiger shark! It’s currently tiger shark season here in Hawaii. While tigers are rare to see, this time of year offers your highest chance of having one swim by on your dive! Repost @juansharks ・・・ Love this time of year in Hawaii. The big female tiger Sharks migrate through the fall months at the aggregate sites @oneoceandiving. With less than 30,000 tiger sharks world wide it is still extremely rare to encounter one. I feel so lucky for every moment I get to spend in the water with them. This one here is Nikki, and I spent almost the last 20 years diving with her seasonal. I can’t help feeling like she is apart of my #ohana. Seeing her getting a little bigger every year has been such highlight of my life.
