Apagard toothpaste is my standby it remineralizes your teeth and isn't strong mint in flavor also it's fluoride free if you're worried about your toothpaste being safe to swallow
Tumblr media
Okay listen I have another disability related thing that’s important!!
If you have any disabilities linked to tooth decay/erosion, through direct cause or secondary symptom, it is vital that you get one or both of the following items: Sensodyne toothpaste and enamel repair mouthwash
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This includes health conditions such as acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, chronic pain & mental illnesses such as depression that create poor hygiene routines, sensory issue disorders like autism and ADHD, and any health condition that causes frequent vomiting / increased stomach acid, including eating disorders and migraines.
All of these disabilities will erode the enamel of your teeth, not only opening you up to cavities but making it very easy to chip your teeth from such simple things as biting the wrong way on the tines of a fork. (I’ve chipped my teeth at least 4 times this way).
The toothpaste on the left here (sensodyne pronamel) is gentle on your teeth, won’t cause painful sensations from any extreme mint flavor, and will even protect your gums if they’re sensitive from any of these conditions.
The mouthwash on the right (Crest enamel repair) will, as it says, repair your enamel — which is marvelous, because the technology to repair your enamel at all is relatively very new to society! — but it is most importantly non-alcoholic. Meaning that it works well as a once-a-day rinse without any of the burning sensations of antiseptics that typically discourage people with sensory issues from taking care of their teeth.
I know remembering to do these things every day can feel like a lot when you’re sick and exhausted, but I promise a collective three minutes out of every day is going to save you an incredible amount of pain and money in the future. If your teeth are susceptible enough to rot, you can actually die from infection. And as they say, with how little insurance actually covers dental —
Not brushing your teeth??
In THIS economy???

Tech Today: Semiconductor Research Leads to Revolution in Dental Care  - NASA

Toothpaste based on the mineral hydroxyapatite, popular across Asia and much of Europe today, is finding its first foothold in the U.S. But the idea behind this alternative to fluoride-based toothpaste was conceived here in a short-lived NASA field center more than 50 years ago.
While working at NASA’s Electronics Research Center – active in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 1964 to 1970 – Senior scientist Bernard Rubin discovered semiconductor crystals for electronics grew best in a silica gel. He quickly realized this gel diffusion system mimicked how hydroxyapatite crystals grow in bones and teeth, giving them their hardness. Building on this observation, he and a colleague patented a method for repairing a tooth by growing hydroxyapatite crystals on the tooth’s surface.
A few years later, a young Japanese businessman named Shuji Sakuma, having just founded Sangi Co. Ltd. in Tokyo, obtained the patented research and set about turning it into a product with the help of dental professionals. Lessons learned from Rubin’s patented methodology inspired the company’s Apadent and Apagard toothpaste lines in the early to mid-1980s. Japan and many other governments now recognize hydroxyapatite as an anticavity agent, and studies have found it to have other benefits, like improving whiteness and reducing sensitivity.

A non-brushing habit that is also "better than nothing": chewing sugar-free gum after meals (and/or after drinking sweet drinks). The chewing action itself plus the salivation it stimulates help to wash away food particles (or the sugar from sweet drinks), disrupting some bacterial growth just as it begins + depriving it of food + also just keeping your mouth clean of food particles that might start to smell bad after a while.
It's a helpful habit even if you do have brushing down, tbh.
If you live in the US and you use a high-fluoride OTC toothpaste and still struggle with tooth sensitivity or weak enamel, try swapping to the European version of Sensodyne repair & protect - it has an actual remineralizing agent in addition to the fluoride, which last I checked is only just starting to show up in some US toothpastes now because [arcane regulatory and profit reasons] but has been in use in Europe for years and is abundantly more effective than a fluoride-only toothpaste.
If you have a really, obstructively powerful aversion to the flavor of high-fluoride toothpastes, you may want to try a toothpaste with hydroxyapatite (HAP/nHAP/mHAP), which is a different remineralizing agent popular in Japan. In the anglosphere it's...uhhhh very popular with the types of bloggers who really hate fluoride, but despite them, the actual evidence for its effectiveness seems solid and HAP toothpastes seem to be as standard in Japan as fluoride toothpastes are here. Apagard is the brand I use and the flavor is much, much milder than any Sensodyne I've ever used (and boy have I been through a lot of them in my life.)
for the record as someone who has a pretty poor track record with day to day hygiene stuff like skincare and flossing, stacking those two things has really helped.
I've got a 3-step (four steps if you count washing face with cold water first) skincare routine (it is probably in a bad order but i don't care sorry baby steps) that I intersperse with tooth care. So moisturizer one, then floss while that's drying down, then moisturizer two, then brush my teeth while that's drying down, then sunblock and that's it i'm done i'm off to do whatever.
If i can't do it first thing in the morning i can do it after lunch or before bed (though i skip the sunblock if it's before bed) because perfect (rigid schedules) is the enemy of good (flossing at least once a day and trying to keep my skin from cracking open).

English translation of Yuka Ayase’s section from the Megami Ibunroku Persona club book.
Notes (as marked by the asterisks):
Page 1:
Ayase’s favorite food is ikra (salmon roe), hormone (cow or pig entrails), and engawa (the meat at the end of a fish’s fin)
Naikura and Loveboat are two popular Japanese clothing brands from the 90’s
An An is a weekly Japanese women’s lifestyle magazine. It is one of the earliest and most popular women’s magazines in Japan. It started in 1970 and is still being published today.
Purikura is a photobooth machine. The photos are often stickers that you can add effects and graffiti to on the spot.
Apagard is a brand of toothpaste used in Japan that’s known to help whiten someone’s teeth.
Page 3:
Dacco-chan dolls were a popular Japanese toy doll from the 1960’s until 1980’s that resembled a black caricature. Read more here.
Next: Hidehiko Uesugi (Brown)
Last: Kei Nanjo
Edit: It has come to my attention that it is difficult to read the translation when on a web browser rather than the Tumblr app. Click right here to be able to read it on a desktop/laptop!

hey, just wanted to let everyone know that NASA has known since the 70's that hydroxyapatite-based toothpastes might be effective against dental decay, but it was a company in japan that was the first to buy NASA's patent in 1978 to produce a commercially available toothpaste.
Tumblr media
japanese studies in the 80's on these commercially available toothpastes boasted a 36-56% reduction of new caries in school children over a period of 3 years.
many other studies have since been emphatically corroborating these findings.
Tumblr media
i looked to hydroxyapatite, not because i believe sodium fluoride is poison, i don't, but because i've been studying minerals' impacts and roles in biology, teeth are made of this substance, and immediately upon discovering information about it, i thought that maybe an agent that introduces it to damaged teeth might be more effective than others.
Tumblr media
just because a toothpaste is fluoride-free doesn't make it good, in fact, that could make it worse.
but my searching around shows that hydroxyapatite is more effective.
Tumblr media
but dentists in america still say otherwise, that sodium fluoride is the best remineralizing agent for teeth.
part of dental care is in giving sound advice, and america's dental care institutions are far behind on that.
so what, am i trying to promote sangi's apadent and apagard lines of toothpaste?
absolutely not, i'm a communist, i wouldn't dare promote any capitalist institution or it's products.
what i am promoting is a keener understanding of our physiology and wellbeing and what our bodies are made of, and a keener understanding of minerals too, because nearly every active compound that is relevant to biology has part of its origins in the lithosphere

U got a nice butt?
Yes. But anyway, I just started using Apagard, a remineralizing toothpaste, and I’m excited. It makes ur teeth feel smooth and I’m seeing if it’ll fix a tiny divet in my back molar where the enamel has been weird for a few years. I also just drank water from a water bottle I found under a couch pillow and idk how long it was back there. It tasted ok though. Have a good night.
