Rewatching BOOM

Boom is what passes for a “filler episode” in S4.

Yet it wraps up most of the Inhumans/Watchdogs stuff - if unsatisfactorily: Nadeer’s death can only inflame the anti-Inhuman sentiments yet that won’t even be part of the backdrop past this season, ever again - explores Mace trying to find a new role for himself and settling on self-sacrificing hero (because we didn’t have enough of those already😁) and propels forward both the LMD and the Framework arcs, with Mace’s kidnapping and Agnes’ story respectively.

So, yeah. AoS doesn’t really do “fillers” and S4? Even less.

Once Upon a Time, the Bus Kids:

FitzSkimmons investigate the bombing together, each to their own strengths - Fitz and Simmons with chemistry, Daisy with surveillance cameras - and then need almost no words to agree on how to (try to) stop Shockley from going kaboom. It’s a lovely little scene that underscores how much the show has lost when it destroyed their friendship.

She’s Got the Powers:

Daisy tries and fails to generate a “countervibration” to keep Shockley solid but the show succeeds at writing around her powers without ignoring neither the obvious nor the previously established, dedicating two scenes to explain how they could save the day and why they won’t. *waves at S6* See? This is how it’s done.

Gotta Catch’ Em All:

Karma is a bitch. Or maybe it just has a weird sense of humor. The Inhuman hater is Inhuman and gets a power that’s extremely useful in his current line of work as a human supremacist terrorist, since it turns him into the perfect suicide bomber: undetectable, completely self-sufficient and fully recyclable.

Tucker Shockley, also known as the Cattle-prod enthusiast for his liberal use of taser rods, is one of the very few named Watchdogs and, as far as we know, is still trapped in his gaseous state inside S.H.I.E.L.D.’s version of a Pokemon Ball. Unlike Vijaay Nadeer, forever trapped underwater in his Terrigenesis husk, nobody cares.

Stuff:

“Caldes de Montbui”, the town in Catalonia Agnes has chosen for her last days, looks like a different dressing of the same location used for Afterlife.

The place Agnes buys her takeaway breakfast from is called “Cafè de Lola”.

I understood that conceptually we were building a world, but I didn't expect you would build our entire world. -- With slight improvements. *Very* slight, since they don’t include correction algorithms to prevent the fascist takeover.

Does that thing have to be in here? Figures the human supremacists would have an issue with androids, too.

Anyway, thanks for ruining one of the few good days I had left. Ouch. I would have crumbled into pieces if someone had said this to me. Coulson is obviously made of much sterner stuff but it’s got to be killing him, too. It’s another testament of how much he cares for May.

I love, love, love the Bus Kids going to investigate the bombing scene in a very public display of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s efficiency. I so wish we had had more of this, regular “everyday” stuff with the Bus Kids playing agents together.

Daisy isn’t wearing the company jacket. Of course.😎

I’m not giving up on May. When I was gone, she never gave up on me. When he was gone...does he mean while he was dead? Anyway, yeah, May would be just as determined if roles were reversed, as seen before and in the following seasons.

Senator Nadeer was also aligned with the Russians. Why would they want her dead? -- Villain-on-villain violence? 🤣🤣🤣

We could try out one of my other superpowers. Persuasion? Daisy doesn’t look persuaded but Mace is actually good with words, when he’s not overdoing it.

It wasn’t pretty but no one died, except maybe Shockley, but I’m fine with that. 🤣
