For creatures designed to be at the top of the food chain, Vampires were awfully fragile. A simple wooden stake to the heart, an open window at the wrong time could render a vampire to dust, even a bite from a mutt could do them in. A simple plant applied in the right way could bring them to their knees. Each of these options flew through Aoifes mind at the speed of light. In the flashing lights and thundering pulses who would notice a regicide?

Aoife tilted her head as the hand was thrust in her face. Removal at the wrist would be messy, to many carpel bones for a clean separation, at the elbow took more effort with the ligaments but would lend to further.. Aoife forced her thoughts to a grinding halt. This was Narcisse's sister, Aoife would not become this person. She would not hurt someone that her wife cherished so closely.

Yet the ghost of Alexei danced between the three women. His spirit brought forth by the humiliation that burned through Aoifes veins. His lips synchronizing with the words that left Frankies mouth.

Who even let you speak? The words rang in Aoifes ears, dredging up memories she had tucked into neat little boxes, chained and sunken to the bottom of her subconscious. Her throat was raw from screaming or thirst, she wasn’t sure. The chains had cut through layers of skin and were tearing away slowly into the muscle of her wrists. Desperate pleases cascaded from Aoifes lips as verbena dripped into the lashes on her back. Alexeis boot under her chin tipping her head up as he paused his conversation. Disgust and frustration in his face. “Who let you speak pet?” The words dripping from his mouth as if it was a kindness to take her mind off the searing pain. Aoife grit her teeth, pulling herself out of the dungeon built in her mind back into the pulsing lights of Khaos. Back to her wife.

Her wife who was looking at her like this was Aoife's fault. Like she was the one in the wrong. Overreacting. Her traitorous mind supplied in husked accent of her sire. Yet there was perfect little Frankie with her big eyes, and a pout that would make Narcisse repaint the world for her. Doubt wormed its way into the back of the Irish women's mind. Maybe given enough time Frankie could erode the foundations of Aoifes world.

"If this was supposed to be about your sisterhood, perhaps you'd find some depth and celebrate with you sister instead of treating her like a doll you could smash against whatever pretty thing caught your eye tonight" Aoife interjected once again, teeth gritting as she struggled to find civility.

"Perhaps I should leave then? Let you enjoy all the night has to offer, avoid creating any more scenes." Aoife hissed the last word, switching to her native tongue when address her wife. A centuries old Irish that Aoife had spoken in her youth, had taught to Naricsse in soft moments in bed avoiding the daylight. Aoife didn't know if Frankie spoke it as well, but she didn't want to make it easy for her to hear the discontent she had sown so easily into the vampires bones.

Oh, what a mouth on this evil little leprechaun. As if existing in Frankie’s general vicinity wasn’t crime enough — now she had to speak? Ruin her night? Her glittery, beautiful, divinely orchestrated soirée? Cutting into a conversation, she wasn't invited to? Aiofe's bold tongue was met with a simple gesture of Frankie's hand; an elegant palm raised. Everyone in the vicinity knew exactly what it meant. Shut the fuck up.

Who invited her again? Oh, that’s right. Frankie did. In a moment of euphoria and generosity. That cursed plus one. Honestly, she should’ve just invited a wild animal. At least a raccoon wouldn’t mouth off and murder the talent.

This was AJ’s fault. And she was going to suffer for it. No more plus ones. No more “spouses.” No more pity invites for emotionally codependent little wives.

"Ugh. Who even let you speak?" And in her beautiful language no less, like it would ever sound anything but butchered on an irish tongue.

Then, like a child throwing a tantrum over a shattered toy she hadn’t even finished unwrapping yet, Frankie spun dramatically toward her sister. Mouth jutted out in a pout, her eyes big and expecting for her sister to gift her the world and nothing less. "This was supposed to be about us, Cissy," she whined, "A celebration in my honor. Me, being a star in my own show. Not —" She waved vaguely at the corpse now being dragged off, "That."

Poor Michelle. So much potential, wasted. Tragic, but not unrecoverable. Because of course there was more where that came from. There was Lily, and Rose, and Butch, Candy, Sammy. They were trembling, but still standing. As if compulsion could be broken that easily. Perfectly lined up, like dolls in a glass case, beauty pageant finalists waiting for a ring to adorn their fingers.

OK so I know it's been FOREVER since we talked BUT I have been watching a stream of someone playing FFXIV from the beginning and then I was also talking to a friend about the story of FFXIV and I thought of you.

I know if I get into FFXIV it will eat my life (and sometimes I consider it) but if I do, how should I start?

Also, what are the best parts of the story and/or gameplay?

(also Aoife is cool, I like her a lot, and I've just been casually following you long enough that she's like... my default WOL, just so you know)

anyway this ended up very long so im putting it under a readmore, but aaaaa im so happy you're interested in trying the game!!

ffxiv will absolutely eat your life, but! if you're interested in giving it a try to see if you like it, (deep breath) have you heard about the free trial of the award winning mmo final fantasy fourteen with no restrictions on playtime and content up to level 70 including the heavensward and stormblood expansio--

jokes aside, the free trial is my personal rec for where to start. you can play as most of the available races (viera and hrothgar are locked to shadowbringers unforch, but as part of the story you get an item that you can use to remake your character if you want, so if you decide to buy the game later you can use that to make the bunny or lion of ur dreams). there are some limits on things like buying items off the mb and how much gil/items you can have, but for the most part there's like 200+ hours of content that's just available for FREE. Idk if you have mmo experience, but if xiv would be your first foray into MMOs i would definitely try the trial first to see if you like it! and since stormblood is included in the trial now you can meet my favorite robot beetle without paying a CENT

the other thing to consider is that there is a big expansion coming at the end of June, which will also include a gigantic graphical update for the characters and world. right now the game is doing its best with ps3-early ps4 era graphics, but come june everything will look a lot prettier! (not that it isn't already pretty, but i won't miss the pixelated grass...). They'll also be adding furry lion ladies if that's your thing (though they won't be free to play as; you'll have to buy the full game to make a hot lion). the downside is the new expansion will be a tough time to start with everyone trying to get in for the new story, so I'd say if you want to start, either do it before dawntrail (easy to log in) or end of july (login queues have eased, and you get to see everything in the pretty graphics!)

normally here is where I'd put my "if you want to play around with the character creator, there's a free benchmark program you can download that includes it!" buuuut the dawntrail benchmark has uh, let's just say wip character models, and they're actually working on putting out an update to it sometime in the next couple weeks.... but when that update does come out, it'll be a great way to play around and see what kind of character you want your wol to be!

WHEW. Okay. that's the first part of your question.

Second part of your question - i wont discuss details of the story bc imo it's worth experiencing firsthand, but i think my favorite part about the story is that your little guy is at the center of it. a lot of the wol's narrative is left open to interpretation, and you are free to imagine how your character responds to the plot. every single person who plays this game has a different and valid experience with the same story, simply due to how they envision their character participating in it, and i think that's beautiful. i can't think of a lot else like it out there.

you'll see a lot of people online arguing that some expansions are "skippable" or base game is "skippable" but they're all lying to you. play all the main story. watch all the cutscenes. there's no need to zoom through it. the reason you are crying your eyes out at the end of endwalker is because you have watched your wol grow from the time they were killing level 1 ladybugs in the starting area. some parts might be stronger or weaker than others, but it all comes together to make one of my favorite stories videogames has ever told.

(also, no spoilers, but shadowbringers is still my favorite expansion for a reason. you've probably osmosized a fair bit of it from my posts about it but it's soooo good. it's worth seeing in person.)

also there are some surprisingly good storylines in the "side" content (raids, trials, etc), so it's definitely worth picking up those blue plus quests and seeing what adventures are to be had. not to be biased but the omega storyline is my favorite ("yes ren we KNOW you like the robot beetle"). some are serious (there's one about child soldiers) and some are goofy (in one questline you solve zany mysteries with the world's least competent detective) but all of them have heart, and a little final fantasy corniness.

as for gameplay, its probably obvious that i love the fashion aspect. Gear you obtain can be seen on your character (even jewelry!), and there's a whole system for saving outfits. people joke that glamour is the true endgame but i literally, like an hour ago, cleared a high difficulty raid because i wanted a specific shirt. So obviously the dressup aspect is a main draw for me gameplay wise.

but other than that, one of the game's strengths is there's something for everyone. if you want to be the sweatiest raider and optimize your rotation and get BiS and clear ultimates, you can, but it's not the only way to enjoy the game. i have friends who enjoy just dinking around in roulettes, friends who love to fish, friends who roleplay, friends who organize rare monster kill trains, and friends who spend a ton of time on minigames in the casino. that's just scratching the surface. there's so much to do!

Final animation

music: my animatic is based off of the movement of music and how music makes us move, I wanted to explore the movement of music through dance and shape as well as creating a scene or story of how before music we grow almost static and down at times, but when we put on our favourite songs we can't help but to move to the rhythm and beat!

For my final animation I didn't get to add my painted backgrounds as I found it confusing to animate over unfortunatly, however I opted to make digital background versions of my paintings as this made it easier for me to animate.

Overall I am happy with how this animatic turned out, I feel I have put a lot of research into it.

Things I could have changed: think I could have created a better story or spent more time on the album covers and music as that was the reason for the animatic, I was too focused on how good the background story was and didnt have enough time centred around the movement of music. Perhaps now that I have made my first longer length animation I know how long it takes and I should reconsider my story ideas and key moments to improve on my story telling skills, I also think I should've looked up more animation tutorials as they wouldvé been helpfull.

Inspiration: For this animation I took a lot of inspiration from the anime Your Name, however I also used reference from an animation I was recommended to watch recently. Called Destino this is an animation that tells the tragic love story of Chronos, the personification of time, who falls in love with a mortal woman.

There is beautiful music within the film and the way the character dances and how her hair flows really inspired me to create something as delicate and flaccid. I used this the most for the transitioning of my first album cover where it flows into the next, in the film they transition things seemisly, for example when the woman becomes a part of the shadow.

seminar: I decided to go over a seminar to help me with my work, I chose to watch the animation seminar, In the video I got to understand the considerations we must take on when moving images, these were things such as;

we have to take in the audience considerations such as physical or shared experience and their different device formats

Composition considerations such as screen orientation, staging, posing, directing attention and contrast 

Editing considerations: transitions, types of editing, narrative, pacing 

Genre and styling considerations you must take into account for mood, tone, look and feel, scene details.

Linking in Graphic Design and Painting into my animatic.

in Graphic Design I explored music through it's actions such as- strumming, rhytm, beat and pattern. creating patterns inspired by those helped me to do this for my animation, I knew what shapes and patterns to use because i practiced this many times in that elective.

in Painting I got to learn about contrast, light and shadow as well as drawing live modles and what to capture and illustrate from them to make a successful drawing that contained energy and essence of character, this is what I tried to implement into my animation also.

March 2025 Reading Summary

1. Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh

Rating: 10/10 (When I bought this, I immediately read it after finishing Hideaway. I immediately bought it after reading Binding 13 cause after the cliffhanger it ended on, I just immediately wanted to see how Johnny and Shannon's story ended QwQ Honestly, I was not disappointed by what we got! Everything about this story was perfect, and it was a beautiful way to conclude Johnny and Shannon's duet in the Boys Of Tommen universe! I will say, thanks to Booktok spoiling some things for me, I already knew about certain events that happened in this book, but regardless, it didn't ruin the experience for me, especially when it came to the more heart wrenching events towards the end of this book QwQ I mentioned before that Shannon was the one I especially wanted to see get her happy ending in my last summary, and I'm really happy she did, but my god, seeing what she still had to go through with her family was stressful, especially when it concerned Marie..... Honest to God, if it wasn't for Marie dealing with psychological damage from Teddy's abuse, I would have been expecting her to sing "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled to Shannon 😭😭😭 Speaking of the Lynch family, I know a lot of people in the Boys Of Tommen series are divided when if comes to how they feel about Darren, and this is what I have to say about him; Honestly, the way I see it, he was still doing his best for his siblings when he came back. Yes, he never should have left them alone with their parents to begin with, and he shouldn't have tried to keep Shannon home all the time when she just wanted to be able to go out and be a normal teenager and be with Johnny, but.... Darren was doing his best to keep his family together, honestly. His methods were very misguided here and there, especially when it took him so long to see how broken Marie was at that point, but he tried for his family. He loved them at the end of the day, and he was just doing his best to make up for not being there for the last few years. He's not a perfect brother, but he tried. Anyway, as of this post I currently have Saving 6 on my TBR, and I look forward to eventually reading it and seeing the start of Joey and Aoife's story ^v^ )

2. Pucking Around by Emily Rath

Rating: 7/10 (It wasn't a bad book, but..... Honestly, I could have used a less graphic introduction to polyamorous romance xD If I had known I was going to be reading about so many foursomes when I picked up this book, I would have tried to mentally prepare myself more for what I was in for. That's my only complaint really, is that I just wasn't prepared for what was in this book. When I bought it, I knew it involved a girl who liked 3 different guys, I just thought it was gonna be another "Who will she choose?: story xD But..... Well, if you are tired of seeing that kind of drama because the main character is indecisive of who they want to be with, I would recommend this book, but only if you like spicy books. If anyone in any sort of book community is reading this and they know any polyamorous romance books that aren't as graphic, I'd like to know so I can try to find it! But anyway, when it comes to how this book does handle polyamory (I should note I'm typing this as a monogamous person, and I think I only really know one person who's polyamorous), it really gave me this idea on how some people in these kind of relationships likely struggle with all the stigma some people have towards them, how some people who are in a relationship with multiple willing partners just want to live happily with all of said partners, but sadly today there aren't a whole lot of people that really understand or accept such relationships, and sometimes, especially if those people are really famous, they might feel the need to hide their relationship from others. Despite those struggles that Rachel, Jake, Caleb and Ilmari go through in thus book though, it had a really sweet ending to it that I think could inspire a lot of people in similar situations ^v^ Again, this book is heavy in spice, but the story and it's portrayal of polyamorous relationships I think does make this worth a read for anyone interested! Oh, and of course it's a hockey book too, so if you like hockey, maybe you'll like this book xD )

3. Heartless by Elsie Silver

Rating; 9/10 (The second book in the Chestnut Springs series, this time focusing on Rhett's oldest brother Cade, and Summer's best friend Willa. After reading Flawless, I knew immediately that I had to read the rest of this series (I'm especially excited for Beau's story in Hopeless), and I can honestly say I loved this as much as I loved Flawless xD Things between Cade and Willa start off bumpy at first since Cade is such a grumpy pants, but as time in the story passes and Cade sees just how good he is with his son Luke, we definitely get a really sweet slow burn romance between Cade and Willa x3 Willa so far might be my favorite girl in this series because of her free bird personality! I also loved seeing how Cade learns to open himself up to love again after how Talia hurt him before, how Willa slowly broke down the walls that he built around himself, and how it allowed the both of them to become closer to one another before finally admitting their love for each other and getting their happily ever after QwQ This book is honestly as sweet as Flawless was, and I look forward to seeing what happens next in Powerless, the next book in the Chestnut Springs saga x3 )

4. The Kiss Thief by LJ Shen

Rating: 8/10 ( I think so far this would probably be my first mafia romance xD And besides Hideaway, this might be the first book I've read so far that deals with arranged marriages. When I read the summary of this, I knew I was in for an intense love triangle involving Francesca, Wolfe and Alberto, I just wasn't expecting the kind of intense chemistry that Wolfe and Francesca had xD I feel like people on Booktok would say that there's no way these two stayed together, but honestly, as the story progressed, I do feel like Wolfe eventually grew to admit how much he really cared about Francesca, to the point of admitting he couldn't live without her. Also, I don't know if it's just me or if other people who read this book picked up on this, but I kinda get the feeling Beauty and The Beast might have been a big inspiration for this book xD Think about it; a cold hearted person in power who takes a beautiful girl to be his prisoner in his home, and said beautiful girl loves playing piano and gardening, whereas Belle loved reading? Not to mention Ms. Sterling, who in this case I think could be this book's version of Mrs. Potts? I dunno, I couldn't help but feel like Kiss Thief and Beauty and The Beast were kinda similar xD But anyway, this book definitely started off as quite an intense enemies to lovers story.... Emphasis on them being enemies at first since Wolfe and Francesca couldn't stand each other at the beginning, but Wolfe wanted to marry her anyway in order to help with his revenge plot against Arthur, but as the story progresses, you can really tell that they both start to slowly warm up to each other QwQ Even then, I couldn't help but feel for Francesca with how she still yearned for Alberto at first, how because he was her first love, she'll never fully stop loving him, even when she realized Wolfe was the one for her. I think Wolfe's character development in this book was my favorite part of the whole story x3 I should mention that the first sex scene between Wolfe and Francesca might come off as triggering for some people, but if you want a good mafia/arranged marriage romance story with Beauty and The Beast vibes, I highly recommend The Kiss Thief! )

5. The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

Rating: 6/10 (This book has officially been my first one by Freida McFadden, a beloved thriller author that many people on Booktok enjoy, and.... Well, before I share my review on this, I should mention a few things first;

1. I'm aware that thrillers are Freida's main genre, so when I got this book, I knew that the romance in it wouldn't exactly be the main point of the story

2. When i did hear that The Boyfriend was a story about a possible serial killer boyfriend, I admittedly was hoping maybe it would have some dark romance elements in this. Obviously I knew there wouldn't be spice in this because I did hear that Freida McFadden doesn't write spice, but because dark romance books have given me an interest in fictional serial killer love interests, I hoped we'd see something like this in this book, but that wasn't exactly the case.

That said, The Boyfriend wasn't for me. I do have some good things to say about this book, but at the end of the day, the story just wasn't for me. Honestly, I thought all the twists in this book were very well written, whether it be because certain things were foreshadowed, or some twists just came out of nowhere, but still worked because instead of revealing that the killer was someone we would have expected it to be, it turned out that they were someone you never could have seen coming upon reading this for the first time. I love when twists aren't too obvious until it gets revealed at the very end, and I do think Frieda did a good job catching us off guard when revealing what was really going on. I think really that's the main thing I liked about this book. I may one day pick up another Freida McFadden book, and if I do, hopefully it's one I like a lot more xD )

What my first read of April 2025 will be: Her Vigilante by Lillian Lark
