edit: authors have a way of seeing how many private bookmarks there are!!!! we just cannot access them!!!! and that's fine!!!!!!!

these are the stats for the same fic i have, except the first one is directly from my account stats and the other is the specific fic's stats. we KNOW that there are private bookmarks and those are our privilege as readers. what we DON'T need nor want to know is if those bookmarks are tagged meanly/maliciously.

this is to say, do what works for you and your bookmarking system (if you have one)! no one's stopping you from hate-bookmarking but there is an accessible way to do so without being an asshole and would you look at that—

all it takes is ONE button. which you can even edit AFTERWARDS if you had some epiphanies from this post

as everyone's said, please don't leave such words to authors—critique still needs a willing receiver but these aren't even critiquing, these are plain bad tagging.

I think out of all the features on ao3 bookmarks make me the most happy as a writer. The idea that someone read my story and wanted to save it for later to read actually makes me giddy with joy. There’s nothing better than knowing someone wants to read what you wrote multiple times cause they loved it so much

I was today years old when I learned people add fics they don't like to their Bookmarks.

Is this why people have thousands of bookmarks on their pages? Is this why people add such negative notes to their bookmarks?

Honestly and truly, the thought of saving a Bookmark of a fic I did not like never occurred to me. I'm a veteran of FFN where "Bookmarks" were called FAVORITES and you saved them because they were your fav fics and you wanted to reread them again and again. I always viewed Bookmarks on AO3 as the same thing just called a different name with extra features like tags and notes. I add notes to my bookmarks reminding myself what I loved about it or any tropes or details that might not have been tagged so I can more easily find the fics I want to reread when I'm in the mood for [particular thing].

I cannot cluttering up my Bookmarks with fics that aren't for me.

day 7 of @hprecfest — the best of your OTP

wit's end with this prompt, went through all my oldest bookmarks to pinpoint what about harry potter & draco malfoy sank its fangs into me eleven years ago and— look—

i can't remember the first h/d fic i read, but it would have been from @dictacontrion's daily drarry quotes initiative— a splendid system queueing delicious h/d snippets that ran from 2013 to early 2022. dicta wrote many of my early h/d favourites, the stuff that really got me into this ship, but the DDQ initiative was my first exposure to what prolific reading & fandom engagement looked like. DDQ led me to dicta's curated recs here on tumblr and here on LJ— gorgeous selections that were a crash course in learning my tastes.

hungry for more lists (still didn't quite trust myself with ao3/ffnet's search functions), i found @capiturecs' meticulous & immensely navigable LJ rec archive + rec tag & @gracerene-recs' drarry tag. i still go back to these, especially for older fics i don't see recced all that much anymore.

@drarryspecificrecs' reccing & fic finding catalogues running since 2017 are something else; their work on their main blog, on @drarryspecificrecsdaily & as part of @lostdrarryfics (if i'm not mistaken) is an enduring force in this fandom. their consistent contributions put so many underrated fics on my dash i wouldn't encounter otherwise, and it's always a joy to get the tag notif when i post something on ao3. (also here's a drarry reccers masterlist curated by LDF, i haven't checked out everyone on it, but go forth & enjoy!)

@bridenore has been reading fic on a scale i can only aspire to, their continuously updating rec tag is such a diverse list of reads across tropes & fests. @mxlfoydraco's one-stop-shop masterlist is also glorious.

@thedrarrylibrarian's friends of the library initiative is such a fun take on showing love to fanwork & building community— every rec, interview & adjacent commentary felt like having a warm mug of hot chocolate with a friend. here's the masterlist!

this is by no means a comprehensive overview of all the reccing that goes on in this fandom, i'm probably missing much more than i've counted (speaking of, if you rec & i've missed you, let me know and i'll follow your tag). but among the many things i adore about h/d fandom, the robust reccing culture occupies one of the top spots, not only because it shows appreciation for creators but because it's such a distilled display of excitement for participating in fandom— all of us poking each other and being poked to go look at that cool, brilliant, fantastic thing, jittery to wax poetic about it. reccers held my hand in fandom when i didn't know what i was doing, relentlessly cheered (other) creators on, cultivated a participative space for readers & lurkers and set the bar in so many ways.

The West of Your Spine t. 8.7k. sakusa discovers this atsumu has feelings for him when sakusa does not. augh. sakusa, you big idiot. lovely prose and imagery, as always from mcbeefy.

Roll On, Seventh Wheel t. 8.8k. atsumu realizes that everyone on msby has a crush on sakusa and he does what he does best: tell sakusa that he's better off with everyone else. so cute and endearing. <3

instabae m. 11.4k. komori needles sakusa into posting more on his insta and atsumu makes it his personal mission to take him around the city so to help him take photos. he catches feelings along the way. very cute and fluffy!

Such a Constellation Was He to Me e. 11.8k. sakusa has a bunch of tattoos and offers atsumu a closer look. THIS FIC!! brought me to my knees. it was so soft and tender, and the depiction of sakusa's tattoos was just...augh. my fic of the month.

know you better m. 14.3k. 6/6. atsumu and sakusa are ordered to get to know each other better after their disagreements interfere with their performance on the court. loved the gradual progression of enemies to friends to lovers and the balance of family and mental health issues shared between them.

YOUR BEST AMERICAN BOY t. 23.3k. an asian-american au featuring sakuatsu. as an asian-canadian, i was able to relate to this at a spiritual level. this was inspired by afflications for below-average asian-americans that's in atsumu's pov, which i also read a while back. it's a really niche but nuanced au, and i'm so happy that they exist.

more cock, fewer roaches. please. m. 30.8k. 2/2. sakusa learns that his neighbor down the street has bedbugs so he's getting his house fumigated and needs a place to stay. atsumu offers his guest bedroom and sakusa takes it, thus undergoing to mortifying realization that he likes atsumu. loved this!

standby m. 30.6k. 5/5. sakusa has a complicated relationship with food because of his neglectful parents. atsumu, the owner of onigiri miya, hopes to change that. a lovely slowburn with gut-wrenching descriptions.

on soundcloud, spotify, and first meetings with suna rintarou t. 3.1k. osamu sits behind suna in lecture and watches him make a new playlist on spotify every class, including the suggestive ones. very cute, i very much enjoyed it.

check the grin (you’re in love) t. 5.5k. suna hiccups when he lies, which is terrible since he can't lie that he likes osamu. very fluffy, lovely prose, and very cute <3

Capturing your portrait (and getting drawn into it) g. 22.9k. 6/6. the team is fed up with suna having embarrassing photos of everyone and seek revenge, tasking osamu to take an embarrassing photo of suna, except he falls in love during the process. very fluffy with amazing character dynamics.

the sunlit alley g. 6.6k. iwa is an ao3 writer who deleted one of his works and sees oikawa's deranged tweets mourning its loss. i need this to happen to me in real life. when will i meet a devoted ao3 reader irl (the answer is never because i live in canada and no one lives in canada). very funny, one of my favorites this month!

ten years & a thousand mornings m. 15k. a beautiful ode to iwaoi's relationship through the mornings they have together in argentina and the mornings before then.

Change of Plan(e)s g. 4.2k. queerplatonic kagehina for the soul! kageyama gets sick while traveling back home and hinata takes care of him. very comforting and fluffy.

conflict of interest t. 6.6k. kageyama and hinata's relationship is interpreted as bitter rivals when in fact, they're married. oh, my boys, they love each other so much, and the way they revealed their marriage was the best.

if it wasn't for you g. 13.1k. hinata texts kageyama to ask if he changed his life. kageyama responds with "hah?" an exploration of their relationship and eventual getting together. very cute!

other

the convergence of the aces g. bokuto and iwa friendship with side bokuaka and iwaoi. 4.1k. bokuto notices that iwa looks a lil lonely and befriends him. i love their friendship and how they were able to be with each other through their major milestones. a beautiful portrayal of male friendship <3

given t. 6.1k. tokyo cousins. komori's room tour goes viral after he reveals all the cursed gifts that sakusa got him, and msby4 finds the cursed gifts that komori gave him in return. familial love!! these two are so precious and the fic is hilarious. one of my favorites <3

the sky in my arms, the storm in my heart g. 7.5k. hinata-centric. a love letter to hinata and his time in brazil. on my hands and knees, i love this author so much, everything they write is gold and this made me tear up (i read this at work. do not recommend, read it at home so you can scream your heart out)

my love language is you t. 8k. bokuaka. no section for bokuaka this month, i'm sorry (i need to find more bkak fics). bokuto shows his affection for akaashi using the love languages. utterly adorable and fluffy.

Five Times Ushijima Wakatoshi Absolutely Lost His Shit g. 8.2k. ushiten. title. ushijima still keeps his stoic personality until he doesn't, and tendou is there to keep him together. very funny and sweet.

First Aid Kit m. 70.8k. 15/15. beautiful character study of tsukishima along with his blooming relationship with yamaguchi. beautiful prose and slow burn.

Blood In My Veins m. 77.9k. 21/21. kuroken. obligatory heart-wrenching kuroken fic of the month, this time with kuroo escaping his abusive ex to live in the city and befriend kenma, who has severe social anxiety. painful yet soft with a happy ending.

✮ A/N This honestly came randomly to me while taking a look at Loki's design in Marvel Rivals. I was so confused as to why he would have so much armor/clothing. Not only do we get a glimpse of his skin only on his face but he also seems to be wearing a lot of layers too. And then I remember he is a Frost Giant and then I could understand if he perhaps had some kind of insecurity because of that, after all it would make a lot of sense. So that's why here's the fic because Loki deserves all the comfort and love he can get <3

Ever since you started dating Loki, you had never seemed naked. Never. 

You weren't going to make him undress if he clearly wasn't comfortable with it. You just accepted that he wasn’t comfortable with showing his body and you decided not to press in the issue. Even though you honestly wanted to.

You wanted to know what was going with your partner. Why was he hiding his body from you? He knew he could trust you, right?

You found him lying in bed, reading some Asgardian book while the lamp from the nightstand eliminated his sharp features. Whenever he was reading, he had a small frown on his forehead, so focused on the contents of the book. This time was no different.

You laid down next to him, watching as he was engrossed by the book, silently admiring him. The way his gorgeous green eyes were entranced by the words before him or the way his raven black hair had fallen onto his shoulders. Or they way he would quietly lick his lips without even noticing it.

But he turned to look at you, his hand putting the bookmark inside his book before closing it. “Are you bored, my darling?” He asked with a soft expression before putting away the book, his chilly fingers moving against your forehead to push the strands of your hair back where they belong.

You shook his head, Loki tilted his. “Then what is it? You look as if you require some attention.” His hand moved to cheek, gently caressing it.

��I was just wondering…” You spoke up and he hummed in response.

“Wondering, you say? Perhaps we can wonder together.” His tone was soft and encouraging. It made you even more nervous to ask.

“Why do you always… hide your body so much?” The words finally left your lips and your mind. You had been wondering for so long and now you wondered what kind of answer you were going to get. Was he going to lie to you?

Loki's smile fell almost instantly when he heard your question. His hand stopped its motions as he thought about how to answer you without revealing too much.

You saw the flash of fear in his eyes. “I-I do not…” He wanted to disagree, say you're imagining things or anything else to not have this conversation. But he knew he could not hide the truth from you. You were telling him everything, all your troubles. It was not right for him to hide something when he knew he could trust you.

He looked deep into your eyes as if searching for any reason why he should not share his insecurities with you. Any reason to have an excuse to not have this conversation. But he found none. 

Loki let out a sigh. “I do not feel good about my own body…” He finally admitted, and you were not sure what to say. In Loki's mind, the silence was stretching for hours, even though it was actually just a few seconds.

“I must–” He moved to stand up, leave the bed and you. He was scared you were judging him, even though he normally knew you would never.

You grabbed his wrist gently, stopping him from leaving. “No, Loki. Please, let's talk.” He saw the pleading expression on your face, how much you wanted to help him, make him feel okay.

He sat back down, his hand grabbed yours as he was seeking your reassurance and support. He couldn't find the strength to look into your eyes as looked down at your hand. 

“Ever since I found out I was a Frost Giant, I couldn't… I did not want anyone to see my body anymore. Especially knowing how Thor and Odin used to hate Jotunheim and its people.” He explained taking a small breath and continuing.

“Even despite the fact that I know neither of them hate Jotuns anymore, I… couldn't help but hate that I was not one of them… not a true Asgardian like everyone around. How I could not fit it, always feeling like there was something wrong about me and I couldn't understand why.”

He finally looked up at you, so miserable and hurt. You knew he was Frost Giant, he told you so yourself and you never minded. But you didn't think it would be a reason for his insecurity.

“You're still the most gorgeous person in my eyes. And that won't change, that I can promise you.” You let go of his hand to cup his face. He leaned into your touch, leaning a soft kiss to your palm.

“Would you let me show you how much I adore you?” Your time was soft and the question caught Loki off guard.

Once more, he wanted to disagree. But at the same time, the thought of you showing how much you adored him sent a shiver down his spine.

“Yes, please.” His tone was a little husky, his eyes watching you, awaiting for what you were going to do.

You let go of his face, he was already missing your touch. Your hands moved to his shoulders, wanting to take off his robe. Your eyes found his, watching for any sign that you should stop. But you didn't, you only found anticipation.

You slowly slide the robe down his shoulders, his pale skin revealed to your eyes. His breathing hitched, he felt watched, but not judged.

“You're so pretty…” You whispered, wanting to reassure him. He felt so cold, but not in an unpleasant way. You saw him shiver beneath your touch and you smiled softly.

As his robe was finally off, you gently pushed him back on his. Your hand slided down his chest as you decided to speak up.

“I know how it feels when you're not happy with your body. Feeling how your body does not feel right, hiding it because you don't want anyone to see it.” You said softly. Loki needed to know he wasn't alone.

Loki's hands moved to your waist, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I know, my darling. I'm glad to know I am not alone.” One of his hands moved to the back of your head, pulling you closer.

“Kiss me, dearest…” He whispered before your lips met his in a slow, gentle kiss.

As the two of you kissed, you felt something under your fingers and as your eyes fluttered open, you saw Loki in his true form.

Blue skin with some lighter marks and lines, and the most beautiful crimson eyes you've ever seen.

“Wow…” You whispered, eyes widening as you took in the view. He was lovely and perfect just the way he was.

“I hope the view is to your liking.” His voice was quiet, with a hint of insecurity.

You let out a soft chuckle. “It is to my liking. As you are as a whole.” Leaning down, you kissed his neck, a soft whimper falling from Loki's lips. And you slowly went down. You kept kissing him, giving him little appreciative touches here and there. You saw how he was letting go, relaxing under your touch. 

You could practically feel him melt under your touches and kisses. His soft, cold skin felt so perfect under your lips. Whimpers and soft moans falling from his lips, along with your name. He kept repeating it almost as if it was a prayer.

“Don't stop, my love…” He breathed out, his fingers tangling itself in your hair. 

“I am not playing on doing so…” Another soft moan escaped his lips as you said that, kissing down his stomach. It was going to be a very long night.

Comments versus Bookmarks on AO3

A few people seemed appreciative of my post about how to use AO3's Marked for Later feature, so I thought I'd follow up with another tip about comments versus bookmarks. As part of the amazing @justleaveacommentfest I noticed a few people mentioned leaving nice comments in bookmarks, and I thought it might help to have a little info about how comments are different from bookmarks, and why it's better to send a comment if you want to make an author happy or make fandom friends or have an interesting discussion.

Bookmarks *are* viewable by everyone, unless you make them private. If you plan to say anything negative in your bookmark, please make it private. It's not really the flip side, however, that leaving positive statements in your bookmarks will reach the author, though.

Most authors are alerted when they get new comments, either through their dashboard or via email if they choose, or both. Yay! Serotonin boost, and also the ability to reply back and start a conversation! Plus, readers can have great discussions with each *other* in the comments section of a fic! If you're super into a fic you can read comments on the chapter even years later, and sometimes find the author adding additional thoughts or discussing their thought process while writing! It's like DVD extras for fanfic! (Do kids these days know what DVD extras are any more? Damned if I know).

You don't really know, as an author, when someone bookmarks one of your fics. Some authors, particularly when they are feeling low (cough cough) may also look at bookmarks to see if there are nice things there. This would basically just involve clicking on the bookmarks for each of your fics individually to see if there's anything a.) new and b.) nice in them.

This is an act of desperation. It's not really a wise thing to do, as 99% of bookmarks have no comments, or just list the title and author in fear of the fic being deleted some day and not knowing what you're missing. Even worse, if you, as an author, get desperate enough to cruise your bookmarks, you are as likely to see someone say something like "Meh" or "This got boring so I stopped reading at Chapter 5" or "Too many werewolves 3/10" in a werewolf fic than you are to see a nice compliment.

So, if you loved a fic and want to memorialize your love in a bookmark, be an extra super-duper sweetheart and cut and paste that into a comment for the author! Make the AO3 environment enriching for both authors and fellow readers in the comments section, and protect your friendly local author by not providing intermittent positive reinforcement for the negative behavior of scrolling through bookmarks!

I still recommend bookmarking fics. Bookmark those favorite fics you want to come back and read later, or use bookmarks to leave yourself little reminders if they are nice or in private bookmarks if they are not nice. Bookmark good resources, like how to code things in html or how to use AO3 filters most effectively. Find awesome new things to read by looking through the bookmarks of your favorite authors, because if you vibe with someone's writing you may also vibe with their favorite fics to read!

Why do you write Steddie?

i don’t even know. i was happily in the ofmd fandom when i watched season 4 almost three years ago now (oh god) and then the characters… they got me. i fear they’ll never leave.

What’s your favorite trope to READ?

god, so many. they’re all kinda the same flavor though so i’ll list out what i’m always filtering for to find a new fic: bottom/sub eddie, creature/monster eddie, post s4, canon compliant, soft dom steve, sex pollen, spit kink, rimming (perhaps my FAVORITE ever thing to read), switch eddie/switch steve… the list goes on.

What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?

probably also rimming. there’s just something so romantic about eating ass. and i really love to stick with post s4 canon compliant aus, too, i don’t think i’ve written an actual for real au yet, though i do have an idea for one after brl.

What’s your favorite Steddie fic?

i don’t know if i can pick!! my ao3 bookmarks host my many all-time faves, but if you wanna go by the fic i’ve reread the most it’s probably the affliction of the feeling. it’s so fucking good.

Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?

YES!!! i have never written omegaverse!!! which is crazy, ‘cause i like it a LOT. i have a post-s4 omegaverse au kicking around in my head currently, and i cannot wait to sink my teeth into all the messy biology and politics that come with the omegaverse.

What is your writing process like?

chaotic, in a word. usually, i’ll get a fic idea while i’m balls-deep in writing another fic so i’ll shove it to the side and let it simmer while i finish that first one, then i’ll spend a good long while planning it out in ridiculous detail, and THEN i’ll start actually drafting. i like to have a fully fleshed out outline and a couple chapters written and edited before i start posting, and once posting begins i tend to deviate quite a bit from my outline but it’s all good fun.

Do you have any writing quirks?

definitely. i don’t like pointing them out for fear of other folks seeing them in everything i do, but they’re there. one that i don’t mind so much is my absolute abuse of the word “little.” everything is “a little” of this, “a little” of that, but i try to cut my usage down significantly while i’m editing.

Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?

i always TRY to keep a schedule but… yeah. it never works. i’m far too busy for one, but attempts are made. i’d like to one day write a fic in full before posting it, because i think it’d be a whole lot better if i let it sit for that long but lord, i sure do like getting ao3 comments on every chapter. they make the writing motivation go WAY up.

Which fic are you most proud of?

brl, definitely. that fucker is LONG and i’m barely halfway through it. i think i’ve done a lot of cool things with it and i’m going to do some more cool things and i’ve made a lot of really awesome friends in the process of writing it so it’s got some pretty insane sentimental value to me. it’s definitely going to be a fic i’ll miss writing once i finish it, but that’s what the epilogue series is for!!!

How did you get the idea for blinking red light?

from another fic!!! @racketghost is the author of one of my favorite things i’ve ever read, which is the good omens zach and miri au, closed set (https://archiveofourown.org/works/23320960/chapters/55862155 <- hyperlinked), wherein crowley has been lying about the existence of some angelic sex tapes to all of hell, and then he and aziraphale have to actually make the tapes. it’s awesome. it’s gorgeous. brl is one big giant love letter to this fic, because it means so fucking much to me and i think about it ALL the time. 

When writing honeyed affection, what was something you didn’t expect?

hmm, i don’t know? ha is, i think, a pretty easygoing fic with lots and lots of porn stuffed inside it, and that was all i intended it to be so i cannot think of anything i was surprised by!!

What inspired blood is an aphrodisiac?

i just wanted to write vampire eddie. it was july ‘22, kas theories were everywhere, i had to try it. these days i think i would change a LOT about it because my ideas and hcs surrounding the characters have evolved significantly, but i’ll write vampire eddie again and “fix” everything i no longer like about biaa.

What was your favorite part to write from he could be brave?

…the fisting. i genuinely think some of my best writing is in that scene, and while i feel the same way about this fic as i do biaa, the fisting scene will always hold a special place in my heart. i’m very, very excited to write the fisting chapter in brl because of this scene. fisting rules.

How do/did you feel writing cyclical?

i wrote cyclical during a very weird few months of my life, so writing it was sort of my way of dealing with all the insane shit going on around me, and i think it shows. in a good way, though, because cyclical is a timeloop fic so it needed to be a little angsty and insane. i’m stupidly proud of that fic. @ryeallytired actually BOUND it into a PHYSICAL BOOK and SENT IT TO ME and when i tell you that is the singular most precious object i own, i mean it.

What was the most difficult part of writing blinking red light?

PLOTTING THAT BITCH. GOD. i’m so happy to be actually WRITING it now, the planning was genuinely so brutal. my issue was that i was sticking too close to the plot of closed set (<3) which just… did not work for steddie. closed set’s premise centers around crowley lying about making sex tapes, yes, but he lied about them to PROTECT aziraphale, which is the messiest, kindest, riskiest fucking thing ever. and it’s awesome. in the early planning stages of brl, i was trying to put eddie in the crowley role of lying about having made sex tapes with steve, but it reallyyy didn’t work. there was an oc and i absolutely hated him, plus i didn’t like what that premise was doing to eddie’s character… ugh. it was a MESS. it took several rubber duck-ing conversations with my brilliant friend @lollaika and a rewatch of zach and miri to finally realize that it had to be STEVE who brings up the idea of sex tapes so that he could protect eddie, rather than eddie bringing it up to save his own hide (yikes).

Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?

oooh, lots. reallyyyy loved chapter 8 of cyclical with all of the pov shifts, that was super fun to write. i also really enjoyed writing the dry humping/sex tape convo in the first chapter of brl, and i’m stupidly excited to write chapters 12, 13, 15, and 17, because of specific scenes that will happen in each.

Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?

i do!! after brl is completed i’ll have to choose from two story ideas (because i cannot have two wips at once or i’ll get SO stressed), one being a semi-realistic steddie cowboy au based off my own experiences with growing up on a farm and featuring messy, earnest cowboys and not-fully-human eddie, and the other being the omegaverse au i want to write, which will have a very fun mix of vampire eddie, dubcon bitching, and accidental mating bites!!!

Outside of these questions, Is there anything YOU would like to add?

Hey hey! I managed to write something again after months of (unwanted) hiatus~ I had the inspiration while I was lazing around in bed and I knew I just had to try writing it out. Enjoy! 💚

Alhaitham would glance away from the pages in his hands when he hears your slowed breathing (or snore—he doesn’t mind if it’s you), a small smile cracking on his lips. If he’s still wide awake, he’d simply brush his fingers against your cheek and go back to reading his book. Once he’s sleepy enough, he’d put a bookmark between the pages and brush away your hair to press his lips softly against your skin, enough to make you smile without waking you up. He’d linger on your temple, then your cheek, then if you’re sleeping on your back, your lips. He’d put his arm around your waist and snuggle up against your neck, either from the side or from behind, taking in your scent as he drifts off to peaceful sleep.

Cyno treasures the nights when he can be beside you as you sleep because his duties can pull him away from you at any hour of the day. He’d cuddle you to sleep on Sumeru’s cooler nights, his arms wrapped around you securely as if you could disappear into the night at any given moment. When he senses that you’re asleep, he’d give your forehead a peck and whisper a quiet “I love you,” also drifting off to sleep soon after.

Kaveh would drop everything he’s working on whenever he hears you climb into your shared bed at the end of the day. He’d shower you with kisses until you giggle, then settle into massaging your hand and caressing your cheek until you fall asleep. Once he’s sure that you’re deep into your slumber, he’d kiss your forehead lovingly, then shuffle off the bed to continue working. More often than not, you wake up to find him sleeping on his desk with Mehrak still displaying his latest progress. But if you’re lucky, you’d wake up to his sleeping figure beside you, his calloused fingers intertwining with yours.

Whether in a tent or in the comforts of Gandharva Ville, Tighnari would always make sure you’re cozy and warm, with your shoulders securely tucked under the blanket or in your sleeping bag. He’d adjust the bedding over and over again to make sure that you’re comfortable as he lays down beside you, and sometimes you have to catch his hand to make him stop fretting. One way or another, his hands would end up over yours as you drift off, with the feeling of his fingers caressing yours as your lullaby.

As the founder deity of Liyue, Zhongli knows a lot of ancient lullabies. And as it happens, your favorite pillow is his well-defined chest. Thus, every night, you’d snuggle up in bed together, your head on his chest, a smile growing on your lips as he hums the long-lost tunes in his dreamy voice. When he senses that you’re about to really fall asleep, he’d pull you even closer against him and kiss the top of your head, whispering, “See you tomorrow morning, my dear,” eliciting a drowsy nod from you before you slip off into your dreams.

honestly everything gia writes is incredible but this is one of my favourites. jeanee timeloop au with incredible twists & turns and an insane amount of emotion. i'd say more but if any fic deserves a spoiler-free reading experience it's this one. 100/10 ruined me for a month and counting.

anytime, always by kevjean (Kevin/Jean, Canon Compliant- Post-Canon)

post-canon, professional exy players kevin/jean where kevin's still trying to work through the trauma of his earlier years and jean seems to have made a lot more progress in healing (spoiler alert, they've both got stuff to work through). featuring biker jean, minor breaking-and-entering, and some lovely OCs. absolutely adore this fic.

we carry our own weight by wyverning / @wyverningx (Jeremy/Jean, Canon Divergence)

insanely well-done text-fic where jeremy messages the wrong number and finds himself regularly texting jean. it follows canon so well, the amount of research that goes into depicting the events is amazing. i don't want to give spoilers but the author really uses the medium to their advantage & everyone is so in-character (seriously, the jeremy dialogue especially feels like something straight from tsc). it's part of a series & it's excellent.

take yourself home by moonix (Neil/Andrew, No Exy AU)

amazing no-exy au where aaron only finds out andrew exists when tilda dies from non-car-murder-related causes. what follows is a mad race among his friends (the foxes) to track his twin down. i haven't really summarised the plot because spoilers, but it's excellent: the andrew POV is so well-written & his interactions with the various characters are perfect.

eyes wide open by jaylocked (Jeremy/Jean, No Exy AU)

love this one. despite being written several years pre-tsc, the characterisations are still absolutely amazing (not that them being different would be a deal-breaker, but it's still so impressive how the author took the hints of their personalities from the original aftg books and reached such a similar destination.) also jean has a service dog called napoleon & he's perfect (and jeremy's a high school english teacher!)

Lavender for Luck by Mercey / @merceyca (Kevin/Neil/Andrew, Witch AU)

please everyone read this, i need someone to talk about it with. practical magic/witch au where kevin escapes from the raven coven with jean and ends up being found by andrew and neil. kandreil shenanigans ensue. featuring neil having heartwrenchingly-fitting powers, andrew being insanely powerful, and riko getting a deserved fate. also jean is a cat and it works so well. (and while i was getting the link for this fic i saw the author's made it part of a wider series (though it's the only work at the moment) so that's my day made.)

1. What was the most surprising thing about writing in 2024?

The fact that I not only conceived of and tackled but also actually finished my ten-year anniversary project. That was kind of insane, especially considering my preferred way of writing—which, these days, involves just writing one fic from start to end with no external factors considered. It was a fuckload of fun though!

2. What was the most enjoyable to write?

It was definitely bloodstains on the collar means just don't ask—a no-powers sukuita+goyuu AU featuring Sukuna as Yuuji's uncle and Gojou as his high school teacher. It was my first no-powers AU for JJK, and while that itself isn't an appealing factor, figuring out their dynamics in this context was incredibly fun and also helped me get a better understanding of the characters, especially Sukuna.

3. Which fic is the most underrated?

Hmmm, I don't know if I'd call any of them underrated, but going by the numbers in relation to my personal fondness, it'd be this is the wrong story.

The concept is one I'd wanted to tackle (but was wary of fucking up) for a while, so getting a finished product I was/am proud of feels pretty great. I'm also very fond of some of the ideas I've worked into the fic, as well as the imagery and metaphors used. That said, it's a fucky concept with graphic vore (erotic consensual cannibalism variety), so I'm not surprised that most people are giving it a wide berth. Those who did read it have been very lovely in their responses 💗

4. Which fic(s) had something "cut" or an idea that never happened?

The anniversary project eventually resulted in four ideas (goyuu sex ed ft. poor Megumi, the aforementioned vorey fic, teen Gojou and the PR in a love triangle with Yuuji, and the Higuruma/Yuuji fic) being struck off my larger list of plot bunnies/ideas to write.

5. Which fic(s) did you want to write but didn't get around to?

Well, the current count is 95! So fuck me, I guess.

6. Any WIPs that never got published?

Oh, so many. Considering just the ones finished and the ones published in 2024—

7. Share a snippet from a WIP fic?

I'm only working on one fic at present (...been working on it for months at this point), and this is the latest bit:

The twitch of his own cock calls him out on the lie. It’s no distraction. Satoru feels every bit an animal as Yuuji, speared on cock and so tenderly brutalized. “That looks fun,” comes an unwanted interruption. “You gonna share?” Satoru wraps his limbs more firmly around Yuuji, sighing through the flare of hurt. “Keep your oversized paws to yourself.” A mean-sounding chuckle answers him, followed by its owner emerging from the undergrowth. Out of the corner of his eye, Satoru watches Tōji survey the scene, not missing how he lingers on their naked bodies with unwarranted intensity. At that angle, he can’t see the blood-wet marriage between Yuuji’s face and Satoru’s shoulder. That changes when Yuuji raises his head and snarls at Tōji.

8. Which fic was the one you were most excited to write?

I'm pretty sure that was (this is also part of the story) how the story changes, but man, after a four-chapter outline turned into a four-part 24-chapter fic, I was just glad for it to be over 🤣

9. Fic hopes for the New Year?

There are a number of ideas I'd like to tackle properly. But in general, I just want to keep writing for JJK the way I have been and enjoy the company of my fellow fans.
