Heartbreak Anniversary

Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader

Warnings: mentions of pandemic and COVID, cussing, maybe suggestive at points???, angst, jealous Tom, uhhh sucky writing and no proofreading so bare w ya girl n kinda longer than I anticipated but here we are :)

Notes: italics = flashback

If someone asked you how you managed to get a life as crazy as your’s, you’d simply reply “just meet Harrison and become best friends.” You almost couldn’t fathom what your life looked like right now - you sat in the kitchen with your two friends, Harry and Tuwaine, who had fallen into the pits of TikTok with you, while Harrison, Sam, and your beloved, Tom, sat in the living room, screeching at the television as they watched a game. All of this, while in the middle of a worldwide pandemic.

You didn’t officially live with the boys, but you might as well have. Your apartment was only minutes away, but with how communal your living situation was, Tom simply talked it over with his brothers and best friends, who didn’t even hesitate to scream yes when he asked if you could stay there. It was “safest,” he explained when he begged you to come stay for a while. So you did.

How did we get here? It all started with a little project, Harrison Osterfield, and him playing cupid.

“Clumsy, are we?” Harrison managed to balance you as you tripped over your own two feet, walking into the studio. “What makes you think that?” You huffed back, a small laugh escaping your lips. “Just get that vibe.” He replied, shrugging with a smile.

It didn’t take long for you and Harrison to practically become the best of friends. He soon was inviting you out to drinks with his friends, who immediately accepted you. Though you and Harrison’s friendship was strictly platonic, you found him itching to find out about your relationship status. “Should I even wonder, Harri?” “I mean, no. I’m just curious.” “I thought I told you before I’m not interested in a relationship right now.” You said, glaring at him with a smile. “I didn’t ask that, I was just curious. So anyway, are you coming to the pub tonight? I’m dying for you to meet my friend, Tom.” The excitement in his voice was too much to understand, but instead of questioning, you just replied with a yes.

There you were, walking through the doors of the pub at 8pm sharp. Your eyes finally spotted familiar faces who were calling out to you. You followed suit, inching your way to the booth at the back. “Y/N!” They called, urging into hugs. “Hi everyone!” You replied, taking a seat. Tuwaine was already scooting over your favorite drink towards you. “Told you we’d always take care of you! Anyway, we’re celebrating tonight. Tom’s back home!”

Your eyes landed on the curly-haired boy who had a gentle smile playing on his lips. “No need for anything big, I’m just glad to be surrounded by my favorite people.” Tom said. “Nice to meet you finally, Y/N. Glad to finally put a face to the name.” Tom held a hand out, gripping tight to yours as he shook it. Little did you know, Tom was well-aware of what your face looked like. He hadn’t been able to stop scrolling through your social media pages after Harrison had posted a picture of you, him, and Tuwaine on his story during a night out.

“So who’s this girl you’ve been posting?” Tom said, trying to be as nonchalant as possible during this conversation with his bestfriend. “Y/N, I thought I’d mentioned her to you.” Harrison said through the phone. “I don’t believe you have, are you like…” “No, no, dude, you know I’ve been talking to Grace.” “I know, but I was just worried my best friend had moved on without telling me!” “You know I would. No, she’s just a friend, we met during a project. Grace actually loves her, and so does everyone else - including your brothers. Have they not told you about her?”

Tom tried to think back to his conversations, only briefly hearing mentions of your names when he’d ask what they’d been doing. He couldn’t help but scroll through your pictures, soaking up every aspect of your life, well, only what you displayed. You had a dog, bingo. You seemed to be funny by the way you captioned your pictures, good. You seemed to have fun, love your family, and live a life that perfectly reflected how Harrison had described to him after he had came to the realization that Tom had already began crushing on you just by what he’d started telling him and the way you portrayed yourself.

Tom begged Harrison to be his wingman. Harrison practically scolded him the first few times. “I don’t want you to mess up this friendship.” “She’s not just a fling, Tom.” “Can’t you just be friends first?” Tom would settle for the last comment. “Fine, introduce us.”

Your conversations with Tom seemed so effortless that night. With too much alcohol in your system, you found yourself completely flustered by how pretty he was with his glazed eyes, rosy cheeks, and the constant giggles escaping his lips.

Though nothing ever happened that night, you found yourself spending more and more time with Tom in the coming weeks. Harrison didn’t mind as his relationship was truly flourishing with Grace. Weeks later, Tom had finally kissed you out of the blue and it changed everything. He was leaving for a few more weeks for filming, and instead of gaining the guts to make it official that night, he waited until he came back. It was the first thing he asked you when you reunited.

But, it wasn’t as simple as that. The logistics, the orchestrating, there was so much planning involved with what felt like should just be simple. Tom had fans, and sometimes they weren’t so nice. Tom wanted to protect you in every way possible. Though it was obvious you’d been hanging with the guys, since some of them had posted you, you had just figured that if you went out in public, you’d all go together and you couldn’t spend too much time just next to Tom. Posts were limited, it was all planned to a T. But you didn’t mind, because Tom made you happy and you knew it was for the best.

For a while, you did long distance. Your relationship had been based off of late night or early morning FaceTime calls, quick calls in between breaks, and short text messages throughout the day. It was hard but worth it. But this last time didn’t last near as long as others.

When word of COVID swept through the news, the world became frantic in all aspects. When everything began going into lockdown, Tom was sent straight back home from filming.

Laughter erupted between Harry, Tuwaine, and you. Tuwaine had showed you a both a video on TikTok he came across of a girl dancing in the midst of her friends to the song Heartbreak Anniversary. Though her coordination was obviously great, it was the reactions and how aggressive she was doing the dance that made it so funny.

As if on cue, Tom, Harrison, and Sam walked into the kitchen, Harrison mentioning that they couldn’t hear their program over their laughing. That’s when they found themselves gathered around the phone, joining in the laugher.

“I think we should recreate it. I think Y/N should learn the dance and be in the middle. It’ll be too good.” Harry said. “Me?” A nervous laugh escaping your lips. “For sure, we learn dances so fast, you’ll have it down in no time.” Harry was right - over the last few months, you’d formed certain hobbies with each of the boys. You had became just as close with them as Tom was, and one thing you and Harry found yourselves doing often was learning dances in the backyard, most likely disrupting the neighbors from your obnoxious cussing and laughter.

After protesting the dance, the guys had won and you were now practicing the dance. You felt so dumb, you couldn’t help but laugh. You didn’t allow the boys to see it so that when you videod, it would be their fresh reactions. And that’s what it was -

The boys circled around you, ready to endure the dancing. Right before, Tom had pulled you aside and reiterated not focusing that much time on him, though he wanted you to. You agreed, understanding the circumstances considering the world still was unaware of your relationship. To everyone else, you were just some friend that came to hang out every now and then.

So when the music started, you kept that little rule in the back of your mind. You tried to spend enough time with each, trying to make them laugh which definitely worked. You added your own flair to the dance, leaning back towards each of them, causing them to spit out laughter. You still found a moment with Tom, because it’d be too obvious that you were not trying to be obvious if you didn’t (haha).

Afterwards, the guys laughed over your shoulder as they watched their own reactions. “You killed that!” Sam exclaimed.

Hours later, you all sat in the living room, engrossed in your own thing - television, telephone, reading, someone was doing something. That’s when Tuwaine busted out laughing. “Shit, these comments are ruthless!” “Hmm?” You said, not even thinking to go check on the video you’d posted. When you opened up the app, Tom was looking over your shoulder to look for himself.

“Yeah, Harrison and Y/N are def fucking”

“Y/N and Haz 👀👀👀”

“Look at the way Haz looks at her 😍 obvi in love”

The comments continued. You cocked your head, watching back at the video. There was nothing much different between your interactions other than he was laughing the most - but that was just Haz. You shook your head, laughing as everyone but Tom joined it.

“Dang, Y/N, didn’t know we cared so much about each other!” Harrison said, giggling. “Right, just so in love!” You jokingly fell back into the couch, but soon noticed that Tom was barely participating in the jokes. Instead, he was leaning back, barely cracking a smile, even when you tugged his arm. You tried to shake off his reaction, not expecting him to actually be upset.

“I think I’m going to shower, wanna join?” You pulled out some sweatpants from the drawer that you’d claimed. “Why don’t you go ask Harrison?” You stopped dead in your tracks. “Excuse me?” Tom stayed silent. A nervous laugh escaped your lips, in hopes that his words were only joking but the straight face he was giving, along with no eye contact, made it clear that he was not joking.

“Are you being serious right now?” You asked quietly. You felt yourself beginning to get upset, considering you had never given him a reason to believe that for one, you’d ever cheat, and for two, that you and Harrison had ever had sex. He was well aware of the friendship that you had before Tom came along, and not only was it strictly platonic, but Grace had been in the picture the whole time.

Tom finallt replied with a shrug, which elicited rolling eyes from you. “You’re unbelievable.” You slammed the door to the bedroom, slamming the bathroom door across the hall. It may have been absurd, but in that moment you honestly were shocked. You and Tom had never really argued about something like this before - it just never showed itself as a problem. It wasn’t like you hadn’t been rumored dating each one of the boys before anyway, you didn’t know what was different.

Harrison had obviously heard the slamming of the doors, including the other boys who surrounded him. Sam pushed the television, looking around at the group, who was already exchanging looks. “Nose goes.” Tuwaine said, instantly pinning his finger to his nose, the rest of the boys following. Harrison was the last to reach his nose. “Aw, come on. You know this is probably about me.” Harrison whispered. “Guess you gotta find out.” Harry replied, shrugging.

Harrison slowly made his way to Tom’s room, slowly knocking before opening the door. Tom was laying on the bed on his phone, seeming that he was not phased by the events that seemed to have just occurred. “Tom?” “Hmm?” “What’s going on?” Harrison asked, inching closer to the bed.

Tom laid his phone on his chest with a smirk. “Why don’t you go find out?” “Seriously, Tom? Are we twelve right now?” Harrison huffed back, crossing his arms. When Tom didn’t reply, Harrison felt like tugging his hair out. It wasn’t very often that the two lads argued, but Harrison honestly couldn’t believe that THIS is what the argument was about this time.

Harrison made it clear time and time again before Tom and you had started dating that you two had been platonic from the beginning. Harrison loved you like a sister, but never anything more. Tom was well aware of that - so he didn’t understand why he was lashing out?

“Look, mate. I don’t know why you’re acting like this, but I can guarantee you, that if you keep on, Y/N isn’t going to like it. You have no right to take it out on her. You know she wouldn’t do that to you in a million years, hell, you know I’d never do that to you in a million years. If you want to be mad, be mad at me, though you have no true reason to be. Fans make assumptions all the time. You can’t possibly be upset when you’re the one who continues to vow her as a secret to the world. You orchestrate every plan with her to make sure that it looks like you’re not dating, so yeah, people might get skeptical. I’m sorry that you’re feeling insecure right now, but you have no right to accuse her of anything.” Harrison had no intentions of giving a speech, but he knew that it had to be said. Tom just looked at him, and for the first time, Harrison couldn’t get a read on him.

Harrison made his way out of the room, almost colliding with you as you came out of the bathroom. Harrison gave you a sympathetic smile before going back to the living room. Confused as to what had just happened in Tom’s room, you took a deep breath before opening the door. There was no doubt that you were still upset, but you also were bothered about the fact that this came so suddenly. Or had it? Had he been so skeptical before and you’d just never caught on? How could he not trust you?

As you walked in, Tom laid on his side away from you. You let out a small sigh, placing your dirty clothes in the hamper and walking over to the bed. “Tom?” No answer. “Can we talk?” Though you couldn’t see around him, Tom squeezed his eyes shut at those words. He finally turned over. “Hey.” You said. “Hey.”

You assumed an apology would come after that, but it never did. You tried to be reasonable. “I get it.” “Hm?” “I get it. I’m sorry that you’re feeling like this. I can’t say there haven’t been times I’ve gotten a little jealous or scared or insecure when you’re miles and miles away. But I’m right here. You have nothing to worry about.” “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have acted that way towards you.” “It’s okay, but you have to trust me. We’ve been together over a year now and this conversation has never came up. Why now?”

Tom took a minute to gather his words. He let out a slow shaky breath. “I don’t know how to put it into words. When I’m away, I long to be back home with you. It seems so simple to know that I get to home and you’re here for me. So, now that I’m home for longer than a week, I recognize that you have developed these amazing friendships with people who can be here for you more than me, and sometimes it just feels unreal that I have you - like I don’t deserve you. I just love you so much that the thought of you being with someone else ever hurts me, and I think that’s why the comments got to me so much this time. Y/N, I think I’m ready to tell the world. I’m tired of keeping you a secret. I want to show the world you’re mine, I want to be the one they make those comments about. Ridiculous, huh?” Tom let out a small chuckle and shook his head.

You grabbed his hands, shaking your head. “Babe, if it weren’t for Harrison, we wouldn’t be here. The relationships I’ve grown with everyone is over our shared love of you. We are so grateful that we can be altogether in each other’s presence and enjoy it because we all have a shared love. You’re so important to all of us, and that’s just how it works. I’m ready to tell the world if you are. I’d love nothing more than to finally call you mine publicly… and maybe go on a date outside of our backyard when this pandemic ends.” You say with a grin. He pulls you on top of him, laying a slow kiss on your lips. “You’re so important to me. Let’s show the world how much.”

I KNOW THAT SAYING A SHIP IS CANON IS MEMEING

Hell, I do the very same thing MYSELF. I know they’re just enjoying ships, but some people GENUINELY think the ship is canon. As usual, the MHA fandom took this too literally, and too generally, so let me walk you through this-

Horikoshi: Makes Deku play a big role in helping Todoroki from his trauma, and gives fanservice

The Fandom: OMG TODODEKU CANON

I know when people say TodoDeku is canon, if any, they’re joking. I originally wasn’t going to put TodoDeku, since it wouldn’t make much sense to put it. But I decided to anyways, but just as a lead. That’s all it was, a lead, into this-

Horikoshi: Has Uraraka get a crush on Deku

The Fandom: NO! IZUOCHA CANON NOW, NOT TODODEKU

Honestly this doesn’t have much importance either, I was just adding the TodoDeku vs IzuOcha stuff for relevance, and the fact I wanted to include as many mainstream ships as possible, without targeting one group.

Horikoshi: Writes an intimate and relationship between Momo and Jirou

The fandom: THEY’RE LESBIANS! 🥰

A lot of people GENUINELY think this. Jirou has been shown to blush or get shy around girls, and her Momo are often featured next to each other in Horikoshis sketch’s, BLUSHING. No, no- I’m not saying they’re canon, I’m just saying canon things. Take it as you will.

The fandom: IF THATS NOT ON THE ROAD TO CANON IDK WHAT IS! 😍

Okay so, now that Jirou is important to Kaminari, all of a sudden the MomoJirou stuff is irrelevant? KamiJirou is considered one of the most canon BNHA ships in the MHA fandom, because of this. But how come people considered MomoJirou a possibility, but they don’t now? And yes, I know, not everyone thinks that. Some people think KamiJirou is canon and others think MomoJirou is, I don’t really think anyone changed their minds on this one.

Idk if you’ve caught on, but I was mainly targeting a certain group, I just added other ships for fillers and meme- purposes. I also didn’t want to seem biased or like I was attacking, but I suppose I’ll have to since y’all did an r/whooosh

Horikoshi: Says he likes TodoMom-

The fandom: cOnFiRmEd

Again…we’re just going to brush off the MomoJirou progress? Or the fact Todoroki and Momo don’t have a lot of screentime. Yes, Horikoshi likes Todomomo. That does give it a high chance and I DO Love this ship! But a creator liking a ship doesn’t make it canon! Trust me, other fandoms, other experiences…

People genuinely think TodoMomo is canon too. Not like a funny “Haha Todoroki is looking at her in this background panel” No, I mean FULL ON, SERIOUS, ESSAY-LENGTH EXPLANATIONS and GENUINE beliefs

Horikoshi: Writes an arc about KiriBaku and their importance to each other, giving subtle hints and a shit ton of “coincidental” evidence

The fandom: GUYS LOOOOOK! MORE KRBK PROOF! KIRIBAKU CANON! 😍

Welp, here it is. The first of the three I was targeting, and my own fandom. I am, in fact, one of those delusional people, who thinks it’s actually canon. But I am well aware the LGBT does not have the upper hand in a Shounen genre, but I like to hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, we can find peace here. I wasn’t really talking about the fact of Krbks calling KRBK canon, cause that would have been hypocritical of me. I meant the fact that at a certain point, Kirishima and Bakugo’s relationship was focused on so much in 2018, it basically became this trend. Where EVERYONE thought this ship had a chance. Because they seemed to ALWAYS BE NEXT TO EACH OTHER

Well, here’s the point-

Horikoshi: Drops them to focus on Bakugo and Deku’s redemption and relationship building

Fandom: Oop- GUESS BKDK IS CANON NOW 😄🤭 So sad, I wanted KiriBaku/ IzuOcha oh well 😔

Okay here’s the thing, with the KRBK vs BKDK, I meant it more of a platonic or general sense. People seem to think that just because Kirishima and Bakugo haven’t interacted in a hundred chapters they’re suddenly irrelevant to each other?! As if they aren’t at least friends anymore?!?! I’ve seen people say “Kirishima was used for Bakugo’s redemption so he could get along better with Deku, so now there’s no need for him anymore” Um…no? KiriBakus development is a WHOLE OTHER THING FROM BKDK DEVELOPMENT. And all of you fellow Krbks- Stop crying a river because they haven’t interacted for 100 chapters! Bakugo and Deku redeeming their friendship is important!! LET THE BKDKS HAVE THIS! It’s what they wanted. Just because Deku and Bakugo are becoming friends, doesn’t mean Kirishima and Bakugo aren’t. So, just stop. Please. You don’t become best friends with each other and then all of a sudden say “Hey dude, your important to me n’ all, but there’s this other guy who I used to be friends with, but I kinda bullied him, so…Kinda gotta fix my relationship with him. Anyways lmao bye sEe yA nEVEr-“ I’m preeetttyyy sure that’s not how it works.

A lot of you might say, “No one says that” Oh, Ho, Really?

Now, finally, the last serious one…

Horikoshi: Gives Kirishima and Mina a chapter

The fandom: KiRiMinA cOnfiRmEd

This one I am being DEADASS serious. Horikoshi decided to finally introduce the arc where Kirishima gets over what happened in middle school, and Minas importance or lack thereof, whatever, to him. He saved her, and Mina did a new move “Acid Man” inspired by “UNBREAKABLE”. And apparently, this was leading to the road of being endgame. HELL- Even some Krbks were pouting like, “Yeah, but with the way the manga is going KiriMina is going to be endgame” OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS. Again! Just fuck the Krbk development right?! Just fuck it all! Because apparently, they can’t have other relationships of them focused on, without you thinking THATS going to be canon instead. Before you call me biased and delusional, MORE PROOF 👇

The last “IiDaDeKu” one was clearly just a meme, a funny, trending note to end on.

Ever since she was little, (Y/N) had a green thumb. Her parents had her play outside, help them do yard work, and she had her own collection of house plants from a young age.

It wasn’t until she started getting older that things started to change. Maybe be more than just a “green thumb.”

Leaves grew in her hair and vines wrapped around her legs. Her eyes started changing color based on her mood. She looked like a woodland creature.

With high hopes and her bags packed, she went to Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. To find someone like her, or just find a place to fit in.

Her eyes were green and she was ready to meet new people.

(Y/N) fit in great. Her roommate could control the weather, which made their room a true plant haven, and she had a whole group of friends— and if you asked, no one could find anything bad to say about her.

“She’s so sweet! She gave me some daisies when I was having a bad day.”

“(Y/N) helped me study for my math test. I got a 92 because of her.”

“(Y/N) threw a surprise party for my birthday. It was wonderful!”

Everyone liked her, and she liked everyone. Her eyes were almost always green and yellow— meaning she was happy and excited.

But one day they weren’t green and yellow.

“Alright, everyone. Your partner for the project is listed on the board. You can get to work.” (Y/N) looked over the list eagerly, excited for the inevitable mountain of work she’d be splitting with someone— it would be a good bonding experience.

Her eyes scanned the list until she spotted her name. (Y/N) (Y/L/N) & Warren Worthington.

(Y/N) glanced at him. Warren was pulling books out of his bag, earbuds in.

I don’t… I don’t know Warren that well. This will be a great opportunity for me. We have lots of mutual friends, so this should be easy.

“Hi.”

Warren paused his music and pulled out an earbud, “Hey.”

“We’re partners.”

“Right, right. Sit down.” She pulled up a chair and set her notebook on the desk. “So I was thinking since we have to talk about a political issue, we could do something that has lots of information available. Women’s rights, climate change, issues with the 1%, the problem with the rising trend of plant-based diets, mutant rights…” Warren didn’t say anything. He just listened. “We don’t have to do anything I listed, they’re just suggestions.”

“Okay… We could do something on mutant rights. That’s probably the easiest since we’re mutants.”

(Y/N) nodded, “Yeah, that works with me.” She wrote down their paper topic and the due date in her notebook. “I’m not sure if we’ll get enough time in class to work this week so I’ll give you my number.” Warren got on his phone and opened a new contact.

He held it out to you, “Here, just put it in.”

You took it from his hands and typed in your name and number. You handed the phone back to him and moments later you got a text from an unknown number.

UNKNOWN: This is Warren.

(Y/N): Hi! This is (Y/N)

He didn’t text back. “Okay, so I’m gonna make a google doc and share it with you.” Warren nodded.

(Y/N) had a small, lopsided smile on her face. “You don’t talk much do you?”

“I talk.”

“Yeah, but— I meant… Never mind.”

Warren raised his eyebrows. He knew exactly what she meant. But people weren’t supposed to like him. Warren was evil and scary. Sure, not as much as he used to be, but the school’s Disney princess didn’t need an interest in him. Jubilee and Jean would just yell at him for it, plus a good 30% of the school shipped her with Kurt, and he didn’t want to get in the way of that.

As the bell rang, dismissing everyone from their class, Warren noticed (Y/N)’s eyes were slightly different as she left his desk. They had a slight bit of pink to them.

What does pink mean?

“I think he hates me.” (Y/N) announced as she face-planted onto Jubilee’s bed, letting vines grow and cover her like a blanket.

“Who?” Jubilee asked.

“Warren! We’re partners for the history paper thing and he, I dunno— he didn’t seem to want to be my partner.”

Jubilee looked at her sulking friend, “That’s it?”

“I don’t get it! We’re in the same friend group, we probably have similar interests, and I’ve never been rude to him.”

“He’s probably just tired. School is stressful, and I’m sure he just doesn’t want more work on top of everything he already has to do. I’m sure you have nothing to do with it.”

(Y/N) groaned into the pillow, “I can’t get a bad grade, and if he doesn’t like me then that makes things awkward in our friend group.”

Jubilee laid next to her, face up. “It’s Warren… he’s… he’s got some trauma and other issues. I’m sure he’ll warm up to you eventually… Not everyone’s going to break down their walls after one conversation.”

(Y/N) groaned against and wrapped her makeshift leave blanket tight around her body.

“I’m going to get some food… Please take your vines with you when you leave.”

“Yes, mom.” (Y/N) mumbled.

“What’s her motive?” Warren asked Peter. Peter shrugged. “There’s no way she’d be nice to me just to be nice.”

“I dunno, man. She’s nice to everyone, and I’ve never heard one bad thing about her. She yelled at me and her eyes turned red once, but that’s about it.” He took a bite of his sandwich, “Why do you even care anyway?”

Kurt and Scott sat down with them, interrupting their conversation.

“Shh! Not now…” Peter waved them off to make them silent. “Answer my question, Worthington.”

“Cause I’m not a good person. (Y/N) shouldn’t want to try and be my friend. Too many people would get upset about it. Do you know how many people want her to date, Kurt? Tiffany Jones DMed me on Instagram telling me to not ruin that. Tiffany Jones! We’ve never even spoken to each other! I didn’t even know she followed me.”

Peter held back an eye roll. Warren was a good person, despite his past. Would he ever realize this? Probably not.

“Okay well, (Y/N) is just kind to everyone. It fits her whole “Mother Nature” vibe she’s got going on. Just don’t be a dick to her and you’ll be fine.”

“She wants to date me?” Kurt asked and his cheeks were slightly violet and flushed.

“No, Kurt,” Warren interjected. “People want you two to date. It’s like Stranger Things— some people wanted Nancy to date, Johnathan, others wanted her to date, Steve. They shipped her with someone. People do it with you and (Y/N), and it’s kinda weird but to each their own, I guess.”

“Oh... But why me? Why not you or someone else?”

“Because you’re both liked by everyone, and you’re nice to everyone. I’m like... Rodrick from Diary of a Wimpy kid; (Y/N) is a Disney princess. We wouldn’t mix.”

Peter and Scott tried holding back snickers, as Warren was kinda right. He was a punk emo with daddy issues, and he wasn’t half bad with a drum set.

“Don’t opposites attract?”

Warren waved him off, “That’s a myth.”

Kurt shrugged, “Andy and April from Parks and Rec worked out.”

“They’re fictional, and (Y/N) could date almost any guy here. Why would she want to date me?”

Silence. “She doesn’t. End of story. She’s just overly nice and I thought for a moment maybe someone was forcing her to be or she like, wanted to sleep with me or something.” Warren shrugged, “I dunno.”

“You sound like the plot of a Tame Impala song.” Warren threw a grape at Scott’s head, missing him by an inch or so. “Hey! Just because I’m calling you out for obsessing over a girl doesn’t mean you can get mad at me. I could have gotten hurt!”

“Dude, it’s a grape. Plus you have glasses on. You would have been fine,” Peter said.

“It’s the matter of the thing.” Peter rolled his eyes at his roommate’s dramatics.

“You know I wouldn’t purposely hurt you.” Warren reminded him.

“Still… You can’t get mad because a cute girl is being nice to you.”

“I’m not mad, I’m confused. There’s a difference.”

Scott nodded mocking him by agreeing, “Uh-huh… And in about a week you’ll be gushing over how amazing she is and how you’d do anything for her, and how you could just watch her do nothing all day.”

“That’s you. You described yourself.”

Scott raised his eyebrows as he played with the fry in his hand. “And? I know I’m whipped, I don’t care— You on the other hand…” Warren glared at him. Scott smirked and popped the fry into his mouth.

“What color were her eyes when you talked to her?” Peter asked.

“I don’t know, uh, green? Aren’t they almost always green?”

Scott nodded, and Peter continued talking. “Yeah, but I was just curious. If she really didn’t want to be nice to you just because then maybe her eyes would have been like brown or something— I dunno. There’s a million different options.”

As Peter was going on and on about (Y/N)’s eyes changing color, Warren’s mind started to drift off to their interaction in class.

Her eyes were green, but they weren’t pure green…

“You don’t talk much do you?”

Warren’s eyes met hers, “I talk.”

“Yeah, but— I meant… Never mind.”

Her eyes were pink. Only for a little while, and Warren almost thought he imagined it— but he didn’t. There was no way.

But what did pink mean?

“What does it mean if her eyes turn pink? Like a millennial pink sort of.”

Peter furrowed his brows as he thought for a moment, “You know… I don’t know… I don’t think her eyes have ever turned pink before.”

“Oh.” Warren frowned a little. He was expecting Peter to know, or at least have a vague idea.

Warren was showering when his phone dinged. He only had sound on when he wasn’t 100% available, in case of an emergency.

He held his arm out to grab his phone and keep it from getting wet.

(Y/N): Hey, Warren!

He sighed, it was just (Y/N). Nothing major.

Warren: What’s up?

(Y/N): Want to work on the paper together? Ororo ran to the store with Raven so my room is available.

Warren debated for a few seconds whether or not he should go. He didn't have anything else to do, and it wasn’t that late.

Warren: Sure. I’ll be down in about 20 mins.

(Y/N): *thumbs up emoji*

Warren smiled to himself before finishing his shower.

(Y/N) tried to make the room look presentable as possible, which was hard to do with all the plants everywhere— on her side and Ororo’s.

There was a knock on the door. (Y/N) glanced in the mirror, making sure she didn’t look too frazzled. Then she opened the door to let Warren in.

His hair was damp and he smelt like a vanilla candle, he wore sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. One large enough to hide his wings in, so there were no holes cut in the back.

“Hi! I hope wasn’t interrupting you or anything…”

He shut the door behind him, “No, I was just in the shower.” He glanced around the room. Warren had been in it before, most of the time to hang out with Ororo, but he never really paid attention to (Y/N)’s half. Her side of the room was covered in fairy lights and plants. A lot of plants.

“Sit wherever you want. Just kinda ignore all the plants—“ Some of the vines hanging around her bed moved as she sat down.

“Okay.” He sat down in the desk chair.

“So… I got a couple of news articles dealing with mutant rights— one about the adoption laws varying from state to state… another about some of the protests in Chicago due to the girl with gills getting fired from her job…”

Surprisingly, Warren and (Y/N) finished their paper sooner than they thought they would. “I’m gonna send it to Jubilee so she can give criticism since she’s in honors.”

“Sounds good.” (Y/N) nodded, typing away on her laptop.

Then Warren’s stomach growled. He blushed.

“Sorry— I didn’t eat after training…”

“You skipped dinner?”

“Yeah, I wasn’t that hungry and I took a shower. I didn’t really eat lunch either… I’ve been kinda preoccupied—“

“What the hell?! You have to eat! Your body needs nutrition! You of all people should know that— you’re like, 90% muscle.”

“It’s just one time.”

“Doesn’t matter. Come on— we finished our paper. You’re getting something to eat.”

(Y/N) held Warren’s hand as she dragged him into the kitchen. They received a few weird stares, but it didn’t concern her.

How could Warren be so careless?

“Sit.” She pointed to a bar stool.�� “I’ll make something.” Warren nodded and sat down.

“Do you have any food allergies?”

“Don’t think so.”

“Great, I’ll make something basic.” (Y/N) looked through the fridge before settling on the cheese.

Grilled cheese is easy enough. Plus I can make myself one.

She turned on a stovetop and put the buttered bread on the pan.

She grabbed two plates from a cabinet using the vines from her arms— they extended to reach and wrap around the plates and set them on the table. Warren watched in awe. It looked effortless— kind of like when telepaths move things with their mind, they make it seem like anyone could do it.

“Does it take effort? Manipulating plants?”

(Y/N) shook her head as she set Warren’s sandwich on a plate, and got her’s onto the pan. “Not the vines on my body. Other plants, though, it depends. If I’m just moving a vine or tree branch out of my way, that’s easy, but to have a sapling grow into a fully formed oak tree? That takes a bit more energy. Sometimes in my sleep I accidentally cause plants to grow— I’ll wake up next to an apple tree, or even a pumpkin or watermelon.”

“Really?” He was surprised.

“Yeah. Also, the weather can affect me too. If it’s sunny out and the plants are thriving, I’m usually more awake and can do more without feeling weak, but if it’s cold and cloudy or even snowing, it takes a bit more effort.”

(Y/N)’s eyes were a vibrant green and yellow, you could tell she was excited to tell someone about her mutation. She looked genuinely happy to talk about it.

“That’s really cool. I didn’t know you could do all that.”

He swore her eyes flashed a bit of pink again, but it could have been the lighting.

“No one really asks… and besides, you can’t really use plants in the danger room.”

“I bet you could…” Warren offered. “If you found a way.”

She glanced down at her sandwich, “Maybe…”

“Can I ask you something else?”

She looked up and nodded. Her eyes definitely had some pink now. Warren didn’t know why, but he wasn’t going to ask.

“What’s up with you and Kurt?”

“Oh— Oh, um, I mean it’s nothing.” Her eyes were purple as she spoke, “People started some rumors after I helped Xavier as his TA for Kurt’s English class, and no one wanted to read for Juliet so I read for her and people decided to ship us. We’re not actually dating.”

“That was a while back… people still haven’t let that go?”

She shook her head, “Plus, people think ‘Oh, Kurt’s so innocent, and (Y/N) is too. They’d make a great couple.’ Which is dumb because guys and girls can be similar and just be friends.”

“Yeah, but a lot of people want you guys together. I had a girl DM me on Instagram to not get in the way of it.”

(Y/N)‘s eyes widened in surprise, “What? Why?”

“I dunno. I guess she thought I’d pull off some like, fuckboy moves or something.”

“But you’re not a fuckboy! You haven’t even dated anyone since you came to school here— and I know that’s by choice. There’s at least twenty girls here who’d love to have your tongue down their throat.”

Warren blinked at her bluntness. He was not expecting that. “I mean… you’re not wrong…” He had a faint idea of who some of the girls were, but he figured ignorance was bliss. If he knew for sure who they were, Warren wasn’t sure he could look them in the eyes.

He cleared his throat, “Well, there’s a good number of guys interested in you… why aren’t you dating one of them?”

“I don’t want to. I mean sure, there’s tons of cute guys, but I just don’t think it would work out. Plus, too many people would kill them if they weren’t Kurt,” (Y/N) joked.

Warren smiled, “Yeah, you’re probably right.” He got up, carrying his plate to the sink.

“I’ve also never had a boyfriend before.”

He looked at her, curious. “That can’t be true. You’ve never had a boyfriend before?”

“Nope. I’ve kissed people before and stuff… but, I dunno…”

“Having high standards isn’t a bad thing… Guys can be dumb as shit sometimes.”

(Y/N) laughed, “Trust me, I know.”

Warren rose an eyebrow while setting (Y/N)’s plate into the sink.

“Scott, a prime example of a dumb boy in a relationship.”

Warren snickered, “Super smart but dumb as shit check!”

(Y/N) shook her head, pretending to be disappointed but she had a smile on her face, “God we’re so mean.”

“A little, but it’s Scott… a little harmless teasing won’t hurt.”

“I guess so.”

Warren washed his hands and dried them with a towel. “Wanna go back up to my room? Or do something else?... It’s only 7:00.”

“Yeah, sure.”

Peter and Kurt were in Warren’s room, which he shared with Kurt, when he entered with (Y/N).

“And where have you two been?” Peter asked, pretending to act like a stern and concerned parent.

“We finished our paper and I made grilled cheese.”

“Grilled cheese, huh? No… ulterior motives?” Peter dragged out, just to tease Warren about his disconcerts from before. Warren flipped him off while (Y/N) wasn’t looking.

“What have you guys been up to?” (Y/N) asked, sitting cross-legged on the floor.

“Not much. Jubilee asked us to help her organize the third grader’s field trip to the zoo for extra credit from McCoy.”

“Oh my gosh— I said I’d help her with that—“ (Y/N) looked at her phone and mumbled a curse. “I ignored her message…”

“Just tell her you were busy, I’m sure she won’t mind.” Warren shrugged.

“But I feel bad for ignoring her, plus the extra credit—“

“That you don’t need. Don’t feel bad, Jubilee forgets to respond to stuff all the time.” Warren walked over to his closet. “Are you gonna be okay if I take my shirt off?”

(Y/N)’s eyes widened in shock and confusion, “Why— What— What, why are you stripping?”

She was sure her eyes were fully purple, I mean, come on! What kind of random question is ‘Are you okay with me taking my shirt off?’ Plus they were in Warren’s bedroom!

“I just don’t want to keep my wings restrained if I don’t have to… I usually don’t in my room, I’m shirtless most of the time.”

(Y/N)’s eyes flashed magenta for a moment as the thought of a shirtless Warren flashed through her brain for a second. She cleared her throat.

“Yeah, go ahead. I don’t mind.” He nodded and removed his hoodie off, tossing it on his desk chair.

“Well, Kurt…” Peter awkwardly spoke up. “I think Jubilee wanted our help with the field trip… And with some other stuff…”

“Vhat?”

“Remember?” He asked, motioning to (Y/N) and Warren with his eyes.

“Oh! Oh Yeah! Ve… Ve gotta go.” Kurt waved.

“Have fun, you guys!” Peter grabbed Kurt’s hand and they disappeared with a puff of smoke.

“Do they think— because we’re not— I don’t— You don’t—“

“Relax, (Y/N).” Warren chuckled. “That’s just Peter being Peter.”

“I suppose so…” She grew a flower in the palm of her hand and picked at the petals.

Warren plopped down next to her, “What do you want to do?”

She shrugged, “I’m not sure… We could… We could play never have I ever.”

Warren scoffed, “Never have I ever, with only two people?”

“It’s fun. More... intimate. Ororo and I used to do it a lot when she had trouble sleeping her first few nights here.”

“Are you trying to sleep with me?” He teased.

“What? No! No, no… Why are you laughing?”

“I was just joking. And you’re reaction was funny. Like we’d ever sleep together.”

She glanced at him, in a bit of disbelief of what he said. “Hmm?”

“I don’t think— Never mind.”

(Y/N) nodded awkwardly, trying to make herself not feel awkward. She didn’t want to make the situation weird, “I’ll start the game. Never have I ever ditched class.”

“I have.”

“I know, Jubilee tells me when you two skip to go thrift shopping or to the music store downtown.”

“You should join us sometime— Never have I ever cheated on a test.”

“I did once. One time! In third grade, I wasn’t sure how to spell vacuum so I looked at the girl next to me and copied what she put.”

Warren faked a gasp, “You trouble maker!”

“It was third grade!” (Y/N) tried to be defensive, but couldn’t hide the smile adorning her face as Warren teased. “My turn. Never have I ever… never have I ever… had a crush on a friend’s significant other.”

Warren hesitated with his answer. He didn’t really want to tell (Y/N). He didn’t have a crush anymore, and the girl knew— but her boyfriend didn’t. If he found out, Warren was dead meat.

“Who was it?”

“What?”

“The girl you had a crush on…”

“I don’t have a crush on anyone.”

“You were slow at answering. If you didn’t like anyone you wouldn’t need time to answer.”

Warren shot a dirty look at (Y/N). “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just curious—“

“Can we just forget it? She knows, and I don’t like her anymore.”

“Yeah, yeah… It’s uh, it’s your turn.”

Warren didn’t say anything.

“You can ask me whatever you want. No matter how personal it seems.”

“Alright… Are you a virgin?”

I did say he could ask me anything… Plus I did ask him a really personal question… “Yeah.”

“Oh…” Duh! She’s never had a boyfriend before. What kind of question was that, dumbass?

“I’ve never been in a relationship or had sex— I’m not a prude though, I’ve kissed people before. At like, spin the bottle at a party or something.”

“I respect that… Relationships are messy and honestly sometimes don’t seem worth it.”

“Yeah,” (Y/N) nodded, fiddling with another flower she grew. “Kissing isn’t that great anyway.”

Warren involuntarily licked his lips, “What do you mean?”

“It’s either too short and awkward and you bump noses, or like, there’s too much force and pressure to it and the other person collides their teeth with your lips.”

“Jesus! Who are you kissing?”

(Y/N) chuckles darkly and shakes her head, “You don’t want to know.”

Warren smiled, “Yikes.”

They both laughed together.

When the laughter died down, Warren asked the dumbest question possible.

“Can I kiss you?” His voice was quiet, soft— different from how it was moments before.

“What?”

“I’ve been told I’m a good kisser…” He awkwardly explained. “I could show you… Change your mind?”

“Change my mind?”

“It could stay between us… It doesn’t even need to have any meaning behind it.” Warren scooted himself so he was sitting face to face from (Y/N). He looked up at her eyes trying to figure out what she was thinking. Her eyes flashed from yellow to pink, then purple. He wasn’t sure what the colors all meant. He made a mental note to learn what they all stood for.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

She nodded, “Change my mind.”

Warren cupped her face in his hand. “Are you really sure about this?”

“Yeah…”

“Alright.” Warren tilted his head to the left a little, to prevent his nose from bumping into (Y/N)’s. He pressed his lips gently against hers. Warren used his other hand to cup the rest of her face. Their lips moved together in perfect motion. A warm feeling formed in Warren’s stomach, and he carefully removed his lips from (Y/N)’s.

It was rather brief, but enough to show (Y/N) what she’d been missing.

“Wow…” Her eyes were pinker than before. Warren’s face was flushed, but he ignored it.

“Wow?”

“Yeah, um… wow. That was… That was nice.”

“Mhmm…” Warren wasn’t sure what to say. Yeah, he was a good kisser, but the kiss didn’t mean anything. It was just showing (Y/N) that not everyone sucks at kissing. The pink in her eyes just meant she was flustered and nothing else. She wasn’t going to crush on Warren, and he wasn’t going to crush on her.

(Y/N) left after that. She didn’t know what to do. She’d heard rumors about Warren— saying he was a player, a heartthrob, didn’t care about anyone but himself— (Y/N) couldn’t find that to be true. Sure, if she caught feelings she would get hurt because Warren didn’t like her back… but he wasn’t an asshole.

She sighed, slipping into pajamas. It was easy for everyone else, (Y/N) had no complications with anyone else, everyone liked her and she liked them. She’d only gotten mad at someone once and it was Peter… but Warren… Warren was different.

Something drew (Y/N) in, and she couldn’t figure out what. Perhaps, despite their differences, they could be good friends.

As she got under her covers, she sprouted some poppies to help her sleep.

The paper was a huge success! Warren and (Y/N) got a 98% on it.

“We should celebrate!”

“What for? You did most of the work.”

“That’s not true, and besides, I’ve had a tiresome week and I want to relax.”

Warren shrugged, “Sure. What’d you have in mind?”

“Why are we in the attic?”

“I thought we could watch a movie or something. Ororo and I have been using it as a greenhouse of sorts, but we haven’t grown enough plants yet.”

“Yet?!” Warren gaped. The attic was like 80% plant, 20% building, and here (Y/N) was, saying there’s no such thing as too many plants.

She smiled, setting down her laptop and some blankets, “Duh!” (Y/N) messed with her laptop for a few minutes before pulling up Netflix.

“You can pick something out.”

“Anything?” (Y/N) nodded. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” She was off to the side, messing with a plant. “If you don’t see anything you like, I have Hulu too.”

“Netflix is fine.”

(Y/N) came back and sat next to Warren. “Find something good?”

“Uh, yeah— yeah.” She peered over his shoulder to see.

“Ooo! The Addam’s family! I love that movie.”

“I haven’t seen it since I was a kid. I barely remember the plot.”

“Oh, it’s so good! You’re gonna love it.”

(Y/N) pressed play and got comfortable under the covers. Warren did the same.

The movie was good. Warren really enjoyed it.

“What’d you think?” (Y/N) was excited in asking him.

“It was good! Like, really good.”

“Yeah! I really liked Gomez and Morticia and their relationship, even if it is unrealistic… Also for the 90s, the effects for Thing were really good!” Warren nodded, slightly frowning when she talked about Gomez and Morticia’s relationship.

Is that really what she thinks? Is that why she’s single?

Why— Why do I even care?! It’s not like I like her or anything.

“Yeah, yeah… We should uh, get going—“ He glanced at the laptop, “—before people ask where we are.”

“Right! Right… I can get it, no biggie.”

“Sure you don’t want any help?” (Y/N) shook her head. Warren couldn’t help but notice she had a shift in demeanor. Her eyes were fully purple, with pink slowly fading around the pupil. He kept quiet and followed (Y/N) out of the attic.

“Are you going to the mall Friday?” He asked, breaking the silence.

“Yeah.” Scott wanted the group to do something fun for once— plus it was one of the few options Xavier approved of. “Are you?”

“Uh-huh. Peter suggested we go see a movie or something.”

“Yeah, that could be fun. Scott will wanna hit up the arcade but that’s typical.”

They stopped at her door— (Y/N) obviously struggled to open it due to the unwieldy stuff in her arms. “Here— I got it,” Warren opened the door and let her go forward.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. I’ll see you later.”

“You’re leaving?” Warren felt his chest ache, but he dismissed it as nothing. He ate at Five Guys with Jubilee and Kurt the other day.

“Yeah, I have some homework… Sorry…”

“You’re okay. I’ll… see you later.”

Warren smiled and said, “Bye,” before shutting the door behind him. When he was gone, (Y/N) sat down and leaned against the door and sighed.

She didn’t want him to leave, but she didn’t know what to do or what to say— she wanted to kiss him again.

No— You can’t kiss him. Warren doesn’t like you.

She pushed the dirty thought aside and flopped onto her bed, covering herself in ivy to lay and let the sun come through the window.

Warren was in Hank’s lab, just for a medical update. Alex was there as well, as he’s never too far away from Hank.

“Any trouble with your wings?”

“Not really. The feathers grow back metal and they’re heavy. They’re easier to clean than my old ones, but I sometimes miss a spot.”

Hank nodded, skimming some papers. “Do you want someone to help you clean your wings?”

“No! No way,” Warren rose his voice defensively. “I’m not comfortable.”

“Maybe if you had a boyfriend or girlfriend to help out,” Alex offered.

Warren rolled his eyes, “Well, I don’t have one and there’s no one here I want to date anyway.”

Alex smiled to himself, “You mean there’s no one here who you think likes you, so you pretend to not be interested.”

“Since when did you become my psychiatrist?” Warren squinted.

“Since your movie date.”

Hank glanced at Alex for a moment before going back to his paperwork, “What movie date?”

“The one he and (Y/N) had yesterday—“

“It wasn’t a date. She just wanted to hang out some more since we finished our paper for English.”

“Mhmm…” Alex didn’t believe it.

“I’m serious! We are literally in the same friend group, we’re going to hang out together.”

“What Peter’s been telling me is different.”

Warren almost scoffed in disbelief, “You’re really going to trust Peter over me on this?”

“Um… It was only for a moment,” Warren mumbled. “It could have been the lighting or whatever…”

“No, no, this is really important. I like to keep a note of what each of her colors mean. Even if you just saw her eyes flash, I need to know when, why, and what shade of pink.”

What if she actually hated him and that’s what the pink meant? He turned his phone off and set it on his bed. Warren flopped onto his mattress and buried his face into his pillow.

“Who’s going to the mall Friday?” Jubilee asked out of the blue.

Jean started listing off people, “Scott, Peter, Kurt, us—“

“When?” Ororo got out a pack of gum and offered Jean a piece.

“We were up in the attic watching a movie.”

“We just watched the Addams family. Warren and I are friends.” (Y/N)’s tone was slightly defensive.

“Your eyes are pink,” Jean stated.

“What?” (Y/N) quickly looked at herself using her phone’s front camera. “Oh my god—it’s— they’ve— they’ve never been pink before. I don’t know what—“

“Think for two seconds. Who are we talking about?”

Jean! I don’t— I don’t like Warren! Not as a boyfriend. He’s not my boyfriend and he doesn’t want to date anyone.

She smirked. “Keep telling yourself that.”

“I just really like the fact we’re friends now. That’s all. I’m not in love with him or anything…”

What if my subconscious does love Warren? I doubt it. I think I would know if I was in love.

“And anyway, it’s just a coincidence. They’ve never been pink before so I’m sure finally being friends with Warren just—“

“They’ve been pink before,” Ororo spoke up.

“Oh my god…” (Y/N) was horrified. Warren knew. He knew! He knew how she felt and he would probably never speak to her again or break her heart and (Y/N) couldn’t live with either of those options. She didn’t want the first person she’d ever had a real crush on to find out. Warren didn’t want to date anyone! He told her this, right before they kissed in his bedroom…

(Y/N) buried her face in her hands and groaned. She didn’t know what to do— by this time tomorrow, everyone would know she likes Warren. The embarrassment, the rejection, the humiliation, the—

“Hey, babe. Here’s your textbook you left in my room.”

(Y/N) looked up and saw Scott giving a book back to Jean. She looked at his face.

Of course! Scott wears glasses all the time so it’s harder to know what he’s thinking!

“Do you have a spare pair of glasses?”

“Um… I just have my visor. Why are you asking?”

She waved him off, “Never mind. Jubilee, can I borrow your sunglasses?”

“Pink eye?” Scott asked, furrowing his brows.

“It’s— It’s nothing, trust me. Warren and I are becoming closer and I’m just happy.”

“And when we talk about him,” Jubilee teased.

“Yeah. What does it mean?”

“It means—”

“—It means,” Jubilee cut her off, “(Y/N)’s got a thing for Warren.”

(Y/N) shook her head, “I do not!”

“Yeah, you do,” Ororo said offhandedly.

“It doesn’t matter, okay? I just need some sunglasses to hide my eyes so people don’t know what I’m feeling all the time. Have you ever thought maybe I don’t like being an open book?” The last sentence came out harsher than expected. Everyone was shocked, how could (Y/N) (Y/L/N), the flower child, be so angry?

(Y/N) looked down, embarrassed from raising her voice, “I didn’t mean to snap at you guys…”

Jubilee spoke over her, “It’s okay. I’ll get you my sunglasses.”

Everything was darker, but that was the purpose of sunglasses, to block out the sun. (Y/N) didn’t mind much, but it was sometimes hard to read text on the board and her eyes hurt by the third period.

“How do you do this every day?” She asked Scott as they walked down the halls to their next class.

“I don’t have a choice.”

“Oh…” (Y/N) glances down at her feet wide-eyed with guilt. “Right…”

“I know you’re doing it for other reasons, but I think it’s cool you’re wearing sunglasses all day. I don’t feel alone.”

“I can— I can still see color though.”

“Yeah, but not as well. Sometimes I feel lonely when everyone talks about colors— the sunset, the fruit at the grocery store— hell, I even miss seeing the green grass! The grass!”

“That must be hard.” (Y/N) couldn’t help but feel pity, even though she knew that Scott didn’t want it. “I don’t think I could ever imagine living in just red…”

“Sometimes…” Scott sheepishly began, “Jean uses her powers and I can see color for a little bit, but it’s from her point of view, and it’s hard for her. She can only do it for a minute or two, and I don’t want to hurt her.”

“Aww,” (Y/N) cooed. “You’re so sweet.”

“Shut up!” A blush covered Scott’s cheeks and he got quiet for a moment.

“So you and Warren, huh?”

(Y/N) groaned, “Why am I talking about this with you?”

“Because I’m your only guy friend in a relationship,” Scott offered up as a question.

She huffed. Scott was right. “Fair point… It’s just… I don’t know… I don’t think he likes me back—which is fine— I just don’t want him to be uncomfortable when he finds out I like him.”

Scott furrowed his eyebrows, “When he finds out?”

“Pink eyes,” (Y/N) deadpanned. “remember?”

“Right, right… but how do you know he doesn’t like you back?”

(Y/N) rolled her eyes, “We can’t have a telepath in our relationship.”

“What do you mean?”

“Jean probably knew you liked her the whole time before you dated.”

“Hold on! She never read my mind— we made a promise—“

(Y/N) crosses her arms and stopped for a moment, “Mmhmm. All I’m saying is, there’s no mind reader between me and Warren. I can’t tell, and he doesn’t know yet… besides, he told me himself, we wouldn’t work out. We’re too different, and too many people want me to date, Kurt…”

“Opposites attract.”

“No, they don’t… At least that’s what Warren said…”

“Okay, listen— Warren is the dumbest person I know.”

(Y/N)’s mouth gaped, “Warren’s not dumb, he’s in two AP classes and speaks multiple languages.”

“What—“ Scott squinted, “What does that have to do with anything?”

“What I meant was, Warren’s being stupid. Thinking he’s not good enough for anyone, how he thinks he’s too punk for you. It’s obvious!”

(Y/N) stood there, in shock. She didn’t know what to do.

Warren saw (Y/N) in the afternoon. She had on sunglasses, and her hair was slightly messy. She looked hungover, but Warren knew that wasn’t her, partying her nights away, (Y/N) was the perfect princess— and Warren? Warren was John Bender from the breakfast club, except he wasn’t in a John Hughes movie, and he didn’t get the girl and have a half-assed happy ending.

But back to (Y/N).

Warren winced. She knew he asked about the pink eyes. She was going to think of him as some nosy, pitiful, boy with daddy issues. “People are gonna think you’re hungover.”

“Three already asked.”

Warren smiled to himself, he found it almost funny. “Why’re you trying to hide your emotions?”

“I like someone.”

The three words froze in his mind.

(Y/N) liked someone. Someone who was normal, probably. Someone the student body approved up. Somebody who hasn’t killed people and looks like a nightmare.

“Oh.”

He couldn’t see the concern in her eyes when his face obviously fell.

“Yeah. I’ll um, I’ll see you later.”

Warren nodded awkwardly, “Yeah. See you later…”

The mall trip was awkward. (Y/N) had her glasses on still and half of her friends didn’t know why, and Warren was sulking because of (y/N)’s mystery lover.

“So, (Y/N)...” Peter drawled out. “What’s with the sunglasses? You trying to copy Scott?”

She laughed a little at his joke. “Not really…” Peter raised his eyebrows, silently pressing for details. “I just don’t want people to see my eyes. That’s all.”

“Why? Is it because they’re… pink?”

Damnit, Peter! Warren cursed to himself. You had to bring it up. Rub it in my face that the Princess found her Prince Charming.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” (Y/N) glanced at Warren for a moment as he listened to Jubilee ramble on about some girl she met at a thrift store.

“Why?... Because you’re in looove?”

(Y/N) swatted his arm. “I am not!”

“Oh, but I know that's not true.” Peter pouted and bat his eyes.

“Fuck off.”

“Woah! Didn’t know Snow White knew such naughty words.”

Warren grimaced, Peter was pushing her buttons and Warren wanted to strangle him, but he wasn’t that guy anymore.

Borderline mullet, feathery white wings, and an adrenaline rush with the ability to punch everyone within five feet in front of him.

Now he was a gang looking member, with trauma, and recovering from bad habits. Don’t mention that he was in love with Mother Nature.

Warren was so lost in his own words that he didn’t even notice Peter and (Y/N) bickering.

“Stop it—“

The glasses fell. And then the unexpected happened.

Jubilee stepped on the sunglasses. They cracked under her heel.

“Oh shit! Aw, man!” Jubilee didn’t even care, they were her glasses. She got them at five below for three dollars two years ago. Jubilee picked up the broken shades and looked them over.

“Oh well. They were cheap anyway.” Jubilee tossed the remains in the trash and didn’t even give it a second thought.

Warren looked at (Y/N) and they made eye contact. Her eyes flashed purple, maroon, and they settled on pink. Full-on rose gold, soft-blushing pink.

There were flowers in her hair and they retracted into buds— a defense mechanism— she was scared, but wouldn’t break away from him.

Everyone looked at them like one looks at a car wreck or a burning building.

Warren glared at them. “Alright, um, let’s go to Barnes and Noble…” Jubilee dragged everyone away, leaving Warre and (Y/N) behind.

“Were you hiding your feelings from me?”

She nodded, “I didn’t want you to know, though.”

It finally all clicked in Warren’s mind. She wanted to hide her emotions from him because she was into him, and everything he said about them “not being compatible, people don’t ship us, the kiss was only platonic”. “I get it.”

“I want you, but I…”

“I made up bullshit to push you away because I was scared… You’re way out of my league and I don’t want to hurt you.”

“I don’t care…” She stepped closer to him. “I’d kiss you right now, but we’re in public…” Warren quickly cupped (Y/N)’s face and left a peck on her lips.

Even a quick kiss from Warren was better than anything from a boy at a crappy house party.

“Do you want to go to find our friends?”

“Yeah, yeah. We probably should.”

Warren wasn’t sure at what point her hand slipped into his and held on, but he didn’t move away either.

Something in one of the shop windows caught his eye though.

It was a book. Titled, Olympus Gods or something. It made a light go off in Warren’s mind, but he couldn’t figure it out.

What, why does— Then he saw a Harry Potter toy. The three-headed dog, Fluffy or something.

Who else had a three-headed dog?

“Hades…”

“Hmm?” She looked at Warren with confusion.

“Hades and Persephone— plant goddess and goth guy.”

She got the hint right away, and nudged his arm with her elbow, “Dork.”

“Rate the Chapter” is a genuine bell curve this month instead of having its more typical overwhelmingly positive skew. While not terrible by any means, the response to chapter 126 was the most lukewarm since chapter 107, and it was the second worse performing chapter since we started the poll.

By far, this was the chapter I enjoyed the least, I just hope that the ending feels realistic

Definitely fast paced, but definitely needed to finally kick things into high gear. The Calm Before The Storm…

it was pretty disappointing by aot standards, but the last 15 chapters were amazing, so what am i even complaining for.... i just hope that isayama can write a decent ending.

I feel like this is either one of those chapters that will be more rewarding in hindsight when we have more info or was just straight up moving forward so we can get to the good stuff faster and we will have to suck it up and move on. All in all I think it was a good chapter even if a little rushed.

Easily the worst chapter in years due to the fast pacing, convenient plot developments and cliche and very cheesy and cringey ending page quote.

In the anime they could make a whole episode out this single chapter instead of using two chapters to make a single episode

it WAS nice to see characters choosing to be their best selves for the sake of others. For that reason, it was difficult to pick an MVP -- but I gave it to Onyankopon because he crystallized so eloquently exactly what I had been thinking since Eren started the Rumbling.

The Ragako subplot did little for the readers with nearly one-third of the fandom calling it a complete waste of time. The majority (46.2%) were slightly more charitable selecting “It was ok. I’m glad it wrapped up quickly”. Only 17.5% loved the moment. The write-ins were pretty damning.

I'm glad that Connie hasn't died yet because I appreciate him, but there's been wasted potential. Ymir's memories and Porco and Colt's deaths have been reduced to a single vignette where we can only speculate and write fics.

Missed opportunity to actually develop Connie's character. We didn't learn anything we didn't already know about Connie.

This feels like what the anime did to the Uprising Arc. It happened way too fast and honestly felt like Isayama was just checking it off a list, so to say. Which is honeslty a bit uncharactieristic of his writing. I really hope this doesn't start, or continue, a trend...

WHICH DENTAL HYGIENE MOMENT DID YOU ENJOY MORE? 1,494 responses

Before I talk about the numbers, I just want to shout out the one guy who responded “Other” and just said “why”. Anyway, a solid majority of you guys’ favorite dental hygiene moment was Hange asking Pieck rude lady questions, which frankly sounds much worse than it actually is. The next most common answer, getting just over 25% of the votes, was Connie’s Master Plan™, followed by “Both”, followed by “Neither!” I still like the guy who just said “why”.

I didn't mind it, but I heard that Isayama did this so he could get a toothbrush merch campaign going lol

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HOW MIKASA ACTED TOWARDS LOUISE? 1,457 responses

The fandom is almost evenly divided over Mikasa’s actions towards Louise. By the narrowest of margins, Mikasa’s compassionate nature took the majority (26.8%). The other extreme, “Mikasa should’ve sucked it up and let the girl be happy”, was second with 26.2%. A quarter of the fandom instead chose to focus on Louise. “Louise was crazy and deserves the cold shoulder” was third (23.9%).

It's not surprising that Mikasa ran out of f*cks to give. There are only so many lives she can value, and right now she doesn't have the time to spare, or room in her heart.

I don't think Mikasa had any responsibility there, and the scarf is hers. Given its significance, and that she owes Louise nothing, it seemed like the moment was morally neutral.

I really didn't care. Louise is barely a character, and Mikasa had no duty to be nice to a person who enabled and supported a bloody coup just because she saved her life once.

I don’t blame Mikasa. I don’t like and want to spend time with my stalkers either

I felt bad for Louise. She’s dying, let her think you care about her, Mikasa

I felt like Louise is completely obsessional but Mikasa is just as much. To me these kinds of moments show that Mikasa has completely lost it recently

I'm concerned about what this says for Mikasa's character development thus far, and I felt kind of bad for Louise

It actually seems quite obvious to me that Mikasa pitied the poor girl, but there was nothing she could have done for her. Because she simply lacks the time necessary to care for Luise, or change her mind or make sure that she's ok.

That this is about Mikasa’s compassion or lack thereof I think says more about how we feel women should feel. I think it was fine, she barely knows Louise and there is a lot more going on. Louise is a grown woman that made her own decisions.

the most interesting part about it is that Eren asked Louise to throw the scarf away. that's it.

Mikasa already did a good gesture by visiting Louise, no one would ask Jean to do the same with Floch, so I don't see the big deal. Both cases are "protagonist sees themselves in antagonist, and realise how they mustn't become like them".

I feel like the pacing of the chapter was this fast so that Isayama could end with the "Avengers Assemble" scene as the big volume cliffhanger for the next one, so he tried to get through the events quickly to give it that poetic ending. In that case, it's possible Isayama might show how some of these events unfolded in the next chapter or two; he usually does that kind of thing when showing big events for the first time. If the next chapter fleshes some of the scenes from this chapter more like showing Jean discussing the Avengers' plan with Mikasa and Armin, I think that could make this chapter better when we look back on it.

I was just expecting Levi, Hange and the corps interaction would be more surprising. The same goes for Annie and Armin's convo.

The mikasa scarf submit definitely could’ve happened in another chapter. This was too rushed and I really hope no other chapters feel this way. Fans proving as ever, that they are a divisive bunch! However, it's clear that the smallest amount of responses favour the rumbling being stopped and world peace occuring (hippies!). Some responses indicate that this chapter made them nervous for the ending being overly optimistic, even with Eren as the apparent antagonist. Endings where Eren achieves an extreme form of Brexit (Paradexit?) with a victory over the armies of the world have a fairly even spread of positive responses, proving that he still has a lot of fans on his side. However, most of you responded in the vague sense of feeling like Isayama knows best and at this point, just seeing where this wild ride takes us.

I keep seeing this popular prediction on almost every platform: Eren destroys the world outside Paradise, goes back to Historia and her newborn kid (in this sort of prediction it is always assumed that he's the father), tells his kid (who is also thought to be reborn Ymir) "you're free" and goes on to be a good dad - End of story. Honestly the thought of this type of ending pisses me off so much. Not only because its reeks of typical shonen ending, but because it goes against all the themes and ideas that Isayama has written into the story over the years.

I know most people hated how rushed it felt, but honestly, I'm glad this wasn't split into 2 months. This leaves more time for the conclusion, and would much rather the alliances be rushed rather than the ending.

While it's certainly sad that Louise may not be long for this world, I also don't think Mikasa owes her anything. Mikasa seems to see a lot of traits she dislikes about herself cranked up to 11 in Louise, and I think it's understandable to need to distance oneself from toxic ideas or people. Mikasa and Louise were never friends, they never really knew each other, and never really cared about each other. Sure, Louise idolized an idea of Mikasa, but she put herself as separate from the real Mikasa, lesser. These two strangers never had a real chance to truly know each other, and that's okay, sad but okay.

While the panel of Annie with a face stuffed with pie is a gem, I think it seemed almost too good a coincidence. Both parties (Armin, Connie and the kids and Hitch & Annie) happen to be taking a break from their travels at the same time in the same city at the same festival. Seemed a bit too lucky.

Isayama has a bias against the yeagerists too. Portraying them as mindless dumbasses that are evil for no reason. Look at Floch everytime he has a moment it gets cut short for a "oh look at this dumbass" type of conclusion like him missing the shot at Shadis and getting duped by Jean and the 104th.

I don't really see where all the complaints are coming from, to me the chapter must be one of my all time favorites ever since I've started reading the manga at the regular monthly pace. I think the build up and the tension have been steadily increasing slowly enough up to this point, and now we've finally reached the top of the roller coaster tracks, and it's time for the ride to the conclusion. I loved the mysterious plan, it reminds me of the uprising arc (ah the good old times).

I hope the author just got a bit lost and had to put things back on track quickly. I want to feel for these characters, not find out that I followed their struggles for chapters to see them dissolve for the sake of the plot.

Eren has suffered a lot over the years and a lot of things have been TAKEN from him - but do you remember "In order to achieve something, you have to give up something important"? I don't think Eren has ever GIVEN up something of his. He's always been a little maniac intent on killing the enemy (which is what he is doing right now). There have been so many characters in the story that have given up their dreams and finally their lives, why is Eren the one that gets to have his cake and eat it too?

I love it cause we need some time of just relax and be happy before the sad ending

I’m hoping the next chapter will make this one better by fleshing things out. Also seeing Annie and Reiner reunite made me deeply miss Bertolt this month.

The more things don't seem to add up, the more you have to pay attention, that's what I learnt reading this series. And a whole lot didn't seem to add up in this chapter so I'm super hyped!

This is easily one of the weakest chapters Isayama has ever written. After creating all of these subplots that we were expecting to go somewhere and hold emotional weight for the characters were written off into cheap one-liners, off screen reactions and discussion, and just overall completely weak subplots that left us with no emotional payoff.

Boii I'm glad the development on the characters matters only when its relevant to the plot, I almost forget that I used to like them. If Reiner of all people doesn't point out how creepy and disgusting it all is I don't know what to say, what a waste of time of a series.

Connie mentioning Sasha made me cry! Actually makes me wish Eren pulls some time travel shit so that we can have our girl back.

Can I just say I find it funny, and I really love Pieck regardless, it is just a last name after all.

Good, but the former-enemy to friendly-pie-eating turnover rate was wayyyyy too fast!

I thought this chapter was it for Connie, who has been one of my favorites since the beginning. It was a bit sudden but I'm glad him not feeding Falco to his mom is Canon AND that it strengthened his bond with Armin.

It feels like none of the Jeagerists really see clearly what the situation is, or at least don't have an ounce of understanding or sympathy why everyone else is scared and freaked out by what has happened. That in turn makes it harder for non-Jeagerists to act with sympathy, what a vicious cycle.

What bothers me the most is not the way Mikasa interacted with Louise, but the fact that she wanted the scarf back. On a symbolic level, she left it behind a few chapters ago, which meant that she no longer put Eren first and started thinking about herself. She recognized that her bond with Eren was severed. So why take that scarf back now, when it's not supposed to have that much importance anymore?

I can see either the next chapter or the one after showing a flashback of Jean, Armin, and Mikasa discussing that plan. Cutting some parts of a scene and showing it in the following chapter or two is usually an Isayama thing to do.

I don't know why everyone's expecting every single piece of exposition to be laid out for them like meeting minutes. This isn't the first time we've understood what's been going on behind the scenes after the fact.

At the start Connie struggles to hold his emotions, and suddenly he's a hero, cheesy and cliche

The cringe made me develop a permanent seizure. Also both my eyeballs are still stuck in the back of my head because of the excessive force I used trying to roll my eyes.

The team-up should have been given more time to develop. It wasn’t all bad though.

X-Men on their way to stop Magneto (Eren)

The problem does not lie so much in the pace as in the script tension, which Isayama killed a little in this chapter but intentionally I think. I mean the guys are literally sleeping and eating like it was a party during the freaking end of the world, do you really think he would have let such a thing slip out of clumsiness?

I'm pretty sure that Levi will have the role of "Helos", and Hange his 'Tybur' collaborator, because she's holding a hammer like the guy/girl next to Helos during the play (ch99).

Not the usual quality.

8/10. I liked annie's reunion the best, but wish that hitch had more characterization and wasn't written out so quickly. Ragako subplot was fine but predictable. Louise subplot kinda boring. Avengers assemble at the end was very anime and I liked it.

A thought: What if Ackermans are the only ones able to actually kill off the Nine Titans? We know they’re byproducts of titan science, maybe they were created to annihilate them? That’d be devastating to see Levi or Mikasa kill Eren and Armin. I’d love it. 😂

Annie is the best girl

Anyone pretending this chapter wasn't utter shit is in hardcore denial.

Did not like the assemble. Nobody can forget what happened in the recent past of Paradis and what the warriors did. But have hope in Isayama

Do Gabi and Falco know that Armin is the Collosal Titan? I thought Connie might let that slip to them and it might create tension between Gabi and Armin but.... No. Everything about that subplot was insanely rushed, there were a lot of ways it could have played out.

Aforementioned last page quote that is so unlike SnK up to this point. Cringey and straight out of an Avengers movie, I can't believe there are people who actually like this development.

I hope Isayama isn't overworking and rushing himself to finish the manga just for the sake of finishing it this year, but I still believe he will finish SnK in a satisfactory manner that will be memorable for decades. However, this chapter as well as 125 were very disappointing and lowered my expectations considering how good the entire final arc had been up to this point.

I didn’t like the Ragako subplot, but I did like Connie saving Armin and their heart-to/heart afterwards.

I don’t think the chapter was rushed. Glad to see Armin finally doing SOMETHING, and I hope it was more a gamble than him wanting to die. Hange’s monologue was so out of character, everyone knows Hange would never want to live in the woods, yet it looks like Hange always gets discouraged and needs encouragement from somebody else. Seriously, that’s not the Hange we all know. Where’s the ‘defeat is all the Survey Corps ever knew, let’s kick asses!!’ Hange?? that interaction with Pieck brought some of it back thankfully

I enjoyed how quickly it moved. We’ve been down in the doldrums since December, so I’m glad to see the characters & the pace picking back up again.

I hate how quickly Hanji becomes depressed. Armin, Jean - they overcame their doubts by themselves. Yet Hanji always needs someone else to tell them to stop being ridiculous. It’s like Levi is babysitting Hanji :/ I miss good, old, badass Hanji

I noticed that the way Floch gesticulates during his speech was very reminiscent of how Hitler gave his speeches

I really like Hanji and Levi’s friendship and how Levi always knows what to say to encourage his friends but can we please stop with Hanji being so emotionally weak? I love Hanji, but c’mon- Levi was seriously injured and still needs to treat Hanji like she’s a wounded kid. Jean came to his senses on his own, same for Armin and Mikasa. All they needed was to remember people who died, did Hanji not lose enough comrades to find her strength from? Hanji is one of two veterans left and the commander(!), it really hurts to see her so pathetic, that was hard to read. Glad she looks more like old Hanji at the end of the chapter

I wanted more Annie and Hitch adventures and feel deprived.

i wish there was more to the reunion of Annie & co, but whatever, let’s just move on with this plot.

I'm in the minority here, but I actually liked the chapter. Sure the pacing was a bit off, but this may be because we're getting a detailed explanation for it in an upcoming chapter. Other than that I find it somewhat amusing that so many people that a team-up wasn't happening. Like there was so much goddamned FORESHADOWING about it. Plus the fact that Isayama basically flat-out admitted that he was going to create a team-up a-la Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm not expecting roses and fluffiness at the end of the road, I see a lot of people dying. And I still don't know who's gonna be the victor at the end. It just seemed really clear to me where these character arcs were/are heading. I still have faith in Yams. He hasn't disappointed me yet, so let's just see what he has in store for us.

It feels like Isayama is rushing to finish it off just like Kishimoto did with Naruto Shippuuden and that makes me very sad. I'm worried he'll destroy everything he did until now.

It felt incredibly unrealistic. What I have appreciated most about SnK is its narrative integrity and ability to produce results proportional to the protagonists' abilities. Currently, this feels rather forced. When did they come up with these plans? How could they possibly have alerted Jean ahead of time without anything being shown? It feels like a cheat. Also, I don't like that its just them going after Eren. Realistically, in SnK, a small group of characters, even with their level of power, shouldn't consider going after him how they have. If anything they need to face reality and prepare for the world to come after the rumbling, since if I think anybody in their position would think it is utterly impossible to stop it.

It was warm and fuzzy and I really needed that, but the actual details of the new alliance will absolutely need to be expounded upon soon.

It's clear SNK is ending soon so before we see Eren and what else is going on with the rumbling Hisayama wants to close plots with other characters BUT IMO the price of this is giving us less hyped chapters since the walls broke and we still have to see the new Eren titan form…

I hope no one lets you guys near an actual workplace where what you do matters. (A/N: Well you didn't capitalise Tumblr or Reddit so who is the real villain here?)

Let's say we generally agreed that this chapter is bad.

Not nearly as bad as people say it was like Jesus heck calm down. I mostly feel bad for isayama tbh he’s probably being pressured to wrap it up and he’s not usually one to not give moments like this chapter proper time.

It's hard to say why Isayama decided to wrap up things fairly quickly, whether he has later flashbacks planned or whether he was overwhelmed with time pressure/suffered a writer's block of whatever. I think, in the end, if the rest of the story wraps up strong, it doesn't matter much.

I'm happy with what happened in this chapter, except the fact that it was rushed and Levi's plot armor, I mean Ackermann blood. He should have lost at least a leg...

The only solace I take in all of this is that the plot can finally move forward. This has been an entire volume of seemingly pointless side quests and I'm ready to focus again on the main story. Frankly, I'm exhausted. I just want answers and I want to know how the story finds resolution.

We had several excellent chapters recently, a subpar one is understandable. Hopefully the Anime will expand on it a bit

Yugioh S4 Ep 11: Rafael’s Lian Yu Experience

Ah, lets tune into Yugioh where Duke has decided to do some off-roading in the worst car and in the worst place.

Ah yes, the normal interaction you would have with a desert and your expensive vintage car. Duke has been struggling since he became a protagonist to stick to a defining trope. Now that Serenity is gone, and now that they aren’t watching a duel for Duke to be a downer about, I guess his only other tick is that he sucks at driving?

Again there was a perfectly serviceable truck back at the RV but they just really like to put miles on this car (which doesn’t have it’s lights on I believe, which...good job, Duke).

And he just launches these two inexplicably out of the car. Because Yugi might be losing his whole damn soul on the other end of this desert, but we will have cartoon shenanigans, damn it.

It really does look like Dukes looking through the wrong side of his binoculars here...that extra level of Duke.

Speaking of extra level, hows that horse thing going? Where Yugi is riding a horse for the first time in his entire life?

Because, apparently the show has decided that Yami should be really good at horses (????????). He can’t read any Egyptian, he doesn’t have any memories of his Pharaoh life, he can barely use magic, but apparently, he can game a horse. Only problem, is that this art team of high octane vehicle enthusiasts seems totally unaware of how horses work---I’ll just show you. This scene GOES places, and I will absolutely record it so you can watch it in it’s entirety in a separate post.

The horses leg didn’t move the entire slide down the mountain y’all, he just stuck one hoof in front of him and power-slid down a freakin cliff like he was wearing horse Wheelies.

You wouldn’t believe it, but it’s on a very tall thing. I know, in this show? They’re dueling on a tall thing? Whaaaaat?

This is a hilariously weirdly perfectly cylindrical land mass 10/10.

So Rafael’s whole deal is so freakin weird.

Rafael’s a weirdo. I was ready for Alister, since Alister introduced himself in a Maximilian Pegasus suit, but I just wasn’t expecting Rafael to be the weirdEST youknow? Of the three? Like he’s up there with Arcana and the band-saw ankle-slicing machine. Just a really choice human being who makes really good decisions.

God bless this artist’s obsession with edgy cargoes.

Anyways, another fun fact about Rafael is he gets more and more jacked with every single frame it feels--his muscles are like the quality to go fight Cell, but all he does is play cards.

Also he’s obsessed with justifying mass murder on a global scale so...he seems a little bit like an X-men villain in that way, except he’s...just a normal ass dude who got really buffed.

Rafael needs a reason to want to destroy all humanity--that’s really the big dilemma that the writing crew was given, but the way they got there...was a lot.

Lets dive right into it, starts off kind of normal, run of the mill “gotta cleanse the world yada yada” and then just starts somersaulting down a steep hill like in Princess Bride.

First of all, the show decides to reveal to us the entire story via a Rebecca google search, and then, once we’re like WTF? we get to hear it in it’s entirety and it is way weirder the second time.

So um...this Titanic cruise ship.

Yeah. I know. That’s a lot of Princess Peach dresses.

Honestly there is no greater curse in this show than being rich. If you’re a rich dude you are SCREWED. Some force of nature is going to come for you just at any possible moment. You will get abducted....MANY TIMES. You will lose your parents, repeatedly. Your wife will die shortly after marriage. Some asshole will walk up and just remove your eyeball and replace it with a magic golf ball. You will never be the best at cards. Just never be rich in the Yugioh universe. It is better to be dead.

Speaking, of dead--just did a Rebecca-brand google search--do you know how many people fit on an average cruise liner?

It’s more than you think.

Woooooooooooooooooooooo that’s about 3000 people! Just nonchalantly! (and yo, I went mid-range, some cruise liners carry like 6000)

We passed so many 69′s just now!

Now there is some weird issues with this episode where Rebecca was like “The only survivor was Rafael” and then later, Rafael mentions his family is still alive--kinda sounds like the translation shenanigans are back at it, where the English version is desperately trying to keep people from dying, but like, the Japanese version drew a 600 ft tidal wave that ate up this cruise-liner like it was a bathtub toy made of paper.

But sure, maybe some escape boats made it out safely from a catastrophe that is 800 times worse than the Titanic. Sure they did.

PS History Channel got into a weird trend in the 00′s where they used to do these series of rogue wave horror stories--do you remember those? Anyways, one of my friends got super spooked by rogue waves and had it as one of her top ten fears. At the time I was like “lol you’re not gonna get rogue waved on a cruise are you kidding?” But then again, maybe she watched Yugioh and this episode scarred her for life?

Especially since this crazy traumatic experience was followed by three years of being stranded on an island and going COMPLETELY insane. Like not just...partial--Rafeal has absolutely no grip on reality anymore. Like, at all. He’s on another plane from most other Yugioh villains.

It’s like Lord of the Flies but there’s only one person in it. The Lord of the Fly.

This is a kid’s show.

Anyways, on the island, Rafael got hella jacked. So there was that one plus. He did eventually become a very huge person in his adulthood, although he did get a Mokuba haircut for a little while. This honestly says more about Mokuba’s hair routine than anything else.

He also spent some time seeing his lost family members as these three cards that he likes to pray to. Occasionally they fall into the ocean and he has to dry them off. Rafael lived a kind of boring weird life cycling between hallucinations and staring into the ocean.

The show didn’t bother to tell us what Rafael was eating or explain how that outfit lasted 3 years. But, they did describe that after 3 ENTIRE YEARS, Darts decided to just start harassing him.

Which...OK...and then there was this next sequence

I mean this was the only interaction that Rafael had in three years so maybe he forgot that getting drowned by people who harness the power of the ocean isn’t like...good behavior?

Anyways, back in the real world, in the city and wearing his hot topic grunge vest well into his early 30′s, Rafael decided that everyone just...deserves to die. Traffic sucks. Cities sucks. There’s too much crime. Everyone should be dead. It was very strange and sudden twist. You go from having all the money in the world, to no money, and then back to all the money and it’s like “Central heating SUCKS! KILL EVERYONE!”

Then Rafael made this mention of his family that has to be a translation thing.

Those guys have got to be dead. I mean this is Yugioh. There were no survivors. I’ll be very surprised if they pop up next episode, I’ll even dock them off the Death Count if they never died, I am that certain they won’t still be dead in this upcoming arc. They have clearly been replaced with paper cards. Like I wouldn’t be surprised if their souls were somehow inside these particular cards he carries.

I didn’t cap it, but to walk on the island you walk across a glowing oricalchos bridge and it was very goofy.

And then these guys showed up, reminding me again that they are still on this show, because tbh, I completely forgot.

I kinda miss when they were the weirdest people here and I just thought Rafael was another boring guy in handlebar muttonchops.

Anyway, it’s a short update today. I’m a little behind on things in other places, so that’s fine by me. I keep hoping that soon I’ll be back to doing like 2 of these a week. Especially since I recently decided to start blocking twitter and other places I’ve been wasting a little too much time on, maybe then it’ll funnel my efforts to here? We’ll see. Next episode we’ll find out how long all of these guys wearing jackets in the desert are faring.

'Cause I really love your fics on AO3 and just had this stupid idea about Kiri having a youtube channel and doing live filming and Bakugou barging in and doing whatever (lovey dovey or confession or just pure Bakugou ^^) without knowing he's being filmed and watched by thousands people 😂

Mina didn’t always watch Kirishima’s streams live - in fact she usually caught them after-the-fact - but today she had found herself free right about the time he was starting his latest episode.

Today, Kirishima was playing through a game about… Time travel and Mushrooms? Whatever, it was weird but kind of entertaining, and Kirishima always made things funnier with his quips.

Mina took a moment to smile to herself. Whoever would have thought that the quiet Kirishima she’d vaguely known at school would be able to reinvent himself into such a bright personality, a positive figure, and one of Mina’s best friends? Why, he was gaining quite the following online, with tonnes of fans pouring in to watch him.

He had a little bit of something for everyone. He was very handsome (not that Mina swung that way), he joked in a way that made people feel included rather than ostracised, and he was so kind it was ridiculous. He wasn’t a pushover, though, which made watching him interact with his roommate real funny to watch. The two were kind of besotted with each other, though as far as Mina was aware nothing had happened between them yet.

Bakugou was a prickly bastard at the best of times. He didn’t do the YouTube stuff himself, but he’d hang out in the background of Kirishima’s videos sometimes, making snarky comments. (And in Mina’s opinion, heart eyes.)

There was the odd occasion Kirishima would convince him to play some of the two-player games if he didn’t find a guest, and that was always hilarious, because the grumpy blonde was the most competitive person Mina had ever met. It always ended in chaos. Bakugou understandably had a fair chunk of his own fans within Kirishima’s audience.

Anyway, Bakugou didn’t seem to be in Kirishima’s background today, and Mina was far more engaged with Kirishima’s chastisement of the protagonist of the game for being too condescending to worry about where he might be.

“I don’t get how she isn’t seriously freaking out about being able to talk to a dinosaur. I know her fiancé’s missing, but is this Tom guy really that distracting?” Kirishima said, frowning as he rearranged some pictures to solve a puzzle. “Wh- You can’t make a T. rex go vegetarian! He needs that meat, he’s an obligate carnivore!”

Mina snorted to herself. She tapped a message into the live chat bar.

“Ahaha, yeah, I’m projecting onto Dino, alright! Glad to see you here, Alien Queen!”

The game went on for another while, and then…

Kirishima shook his head. “Man, I’m really craving some baloney right about n-”

“EIJIROU.”

The door of the room slammed open, revealing a furious-looking Bakugou.

“Oh! Hey, Katsuki!” Kirishima greeted him. “Uh, I’m kind of in the middle of -”

“Shut up, I have something to say to you,” Bakugou said, pointing at Kirishima with an accusatory expression.

Kirishima gave the camera a nervous grin. “Er, yeah, but I’m li-”

“You!” Bakugou interrupted again, and Kirishima seemed to give up on trying to tell him about the stream. Mina felt herself leaning forwards to make sure she heard everything. “Do you think I’m stupid?!”

“What? No! Of course not!” Kirishima held up his hands.

“You think I haven’t noticed, huh?” Bakugou said, taking a few menacing steps towards Kirishima, who looked slightly baffled.

Kirishima tilted his head. “Noticed what?”

“So when, exactly,” Bakugou continued as if Kirishima hadn’t replied. “Were you going to ask me out?”

Oh my god, Mina thought. It’s finally happening.

Being part of a livestream of thousands wasn’t exactly the way Mina had pictured finding out about this moment, but she was gonna take it.

Kirishima was gaping like a bright red goldfish, gazing at Bakugou with what looked like a mixture of incredulity and hope.

“You want me to ask you out? Really?” Kirishima whispered. Now Bakugou looked like he was realising what he had indirectly admitted, and his face was flushing too. “Oh my god?”

Bakugou glared off to the side. “Are you really that dense?”

“Yeah,” Kirishima laughed. “I think I am. Oh man, Katsuki, I- Hold on just a second.”

Kirishima turned to the camera. “Sorry, guys, uh. Something important just came up! I’m cutting the stream short today!”

Mina was only granted a few delicious moments of watching Bakugou’s face morph into mortification as he realised that Kirishima had been filming the whole time before the feed cut out. Oh boy, well, that had been a thing. Mina supposed the pair would probably be dating now until like, forever.

She fired off a quick text to Kirishima.

MeHave a nice evening with your boyfriend. ;)

Mina tossed her phone onto her desk, not expecting a response from Kirishima any time soon. She leant back in her seat for a moment and stared at her ceiling.

She waited for a few seconds.

Okay, she thought, snatching her phone up again. I’ll just text the squad. Maybe a couple others from school.

And anyway, if Bakugou and Kirishima hadn’t wanted their ship name to start trending on three different social media sites overnight then they should have quit pining and gone through that whole fiasco already without having it be caught on camera!

JIN

Isn’t particularly happy about keeping the relationship private but understands the necessity

Finds it frustrating to watch what he says in public and have to call you rather than have you come over, and if he’s honest, he feels like your relationship won’t last too much longer if you never get to spend any decent time together

Tells BigHit he’ll do anything to tell army about you so that he can have a normal relationship because it’s taking an emotional toll on him

BigHit asks him to hold off while they decide an appropriate course of action

Cue chaotic energy jin

He never admits it in words, but does everything else to imply he’s dating

He leaves condoms around his room (even though you two haven’t been able to have sex in months with you never being able to come around), he follows you and likes all your tweets on the official BTS twitter account, he takes you out for coffee multiple times without wearing a face mask just so paparazzi can shoot you two together

BigHit is literally powerless to stop this crackhead so they give him permission to say whatever he wants about your relationship as long as he promises not to share any explicit details (they really weren’t impressed with the condom trick)

Now that he’s in the green, jin invites you to do everything with him and the rest of bangtan

He’s missed you so much that he doesn’t even mind if you have to come to work with him rather than having private time alone because he just wants your company

You are still getting to know the other guys because you were so careful not to be seen around jin before, so you spend a long of time during the workdays talking with his bandmates and becoming friends with them

This makes jin extremely jealous, and whenever he gets jealous he gets extremely horny, and the two of you do have a lot of fucking to catch up on, so for a few weeks the other six members of bangtan sleep with noise cancelling earphones on

He likes to joke around on stage and in interviews about you, and army are surprisingly good about jin being a taken man

Probably because he is a very traditional person and also the oldest in the group, it seems right for him to be settling down before all of the other members

You may have also won over army by posting a generous number of photos of jin (in equal parts extremely unflattering angles and extremely sexy boyfriend material snaps) on your instagram

YOONGI

Yoongi is a pretty private guy, so you might expect he’d be quite happy keeping your relationship private for as long as needed, and for the most part he is

But after a while it’s just so inconvenient to sneak around, and not be able to see you and kiss you whenever he wants, so he will keep asking BigHit for permission

For a while BigHit says no

Yoongi does not like being told no

Yoongi starts writing inside jokes and references to the fact that he’s in a relationship/having sex but because he’s Yoongi, army just assume he’s doing the whole tongue technology thing

a few months after that attempt fails, he takes you to meet his parents while on break, and a fan sees the two of you going around town together and approaches the two of you, asking if you’re together

Yoongi just says ‘technically I’m not allowed to say yes’ and hopes the fan gets the hint

The fan posts a picture she took of the two of you and it spreads like wildfire

BigHit finally lets him reveal his relationship because he knows exactly how to make things difficult for them

Yoongi doesn’t even bother with releasing an official statement, he just lets you and him be seen together in public whenever you want, and a photo of him kissing you after winning an award goes viral, confirming it without a doubt

Fans go back to his most recent songs and piece together that he was trying to tell them this whole time

Nothing changes in your relationship except that you don’t have to be careful all the time, still keeping most things private

He doesn’t talk about you on stage or in interviews much, but he turns into a soft, gummy, heart-eyes ball of fluff when he sees you in the audience at his shows

HOSEOK

Hoseok really really hates having to keep his relationship private

All he ever wants is to share all his happiness with the world, and he wants army to know how happy he is now that you’re in his life

BigHit feel like Hoseok isn’t one of the sex appeal/visual members as much as Jungkook or Jimin, so they let him open up about dating pretty soon

he doesn’t release an official public statement, he just starts talking about you in v-lives, thanking you for your support during concerts and posting selfies with you

The two of you do everything together, and you spend as much time with him and the boys as you can while they’re working, so having your relationship public just means that you don’t have to be as careful with wearing a face mask and avoiding paparazzi

You’re really close with the other members too, and so you often appear in the background of bangtan bombs or other members’ v-lives, and every time army sees you they will comment and say hi to you

Maybe more so than any of the other members’ girlfriends/boyfriends, army take to you really well and almost begin treating you like the eight member of bangtan, as they always see you caring after the other members, making sure namjoon doesn’t leave behind his passport or giving them words of encouragement before they go on stage

Because you’re around hobi so much, you’ve basically memorised all the dance moves, and sometimes when there’s not much time you’ll go around running through the choreography with the other members with hoseok and jimin, and soon enough you and hoseok are known as the parents of bangtan

Hobi is probably the most open out of all the members about his significant other, he would talk for hours if a fan asked him a question about you, and gets excited when interviewers mention you

army keep egging him on about when he’s going to propose to you, and he finds that in fanmeets half of the fans are asking him about you more than about anything bangtan related

if he’s away on tour, you will always be watching his livestreams and will comment to him, and quite often the two of you have a five minute conversation with input from army

Because he loves doing that so much, he livestreams at least twice as often as any of the other members

you are always in the audience at every concert, and hobi likes to come over mid-song while another member is singing or rapping their verse, and bend down on the edge of the stage to give you a kiss

NAMJOON

Has the biggest, most elaborate ideas of how he’s going to tell the world

All those plans go to shit when he’s doing a v-live, showing off his newly decorated studio and his fans spot a framed photo he has of the two of you

ARMY begin speculating about who it could be, and so BigHit decides it’s time to release an official statement

Namjoon sends out a tweet saying he’s in a relationship and that he’s very happy and hopes their fans will support him

He is worried that you’ll receive hate for dating him, but he’s so happy that he can finally be honest with army and show you off

The two of you start releasing more photos together on the BTS twitter account and your instagram

For a while, quite a few fans aren’t happy that he’s dating, and he tries his best to protect you from the brunt of it

It’s not until he asks you to join him on a v-live and army can see you two actually interacting that the hate dies down

Soon enough you have fans commenting on your posts and thanking you for making him happy

now that he doesn’t have to be quiet about his relationship, he’s always talking about you in interviews

Fans create compilations of namjoon talking about you because he always blushes and gets all smiley and dimply when he gets asked questions about you

JIMIN

Writes a song and releases it. Then he reveals a couple weeks later in an interview that he wrote it for someone specific

Fans go crazy trying to work out who it is, but at the time he’s on tour and so the two of you haven’t actually been seen together in a while

interviewers keep asking him about who that person is, and whether he has a girlfriend/boyfriend, and he just gives the camera that sneaky smile and taps the side of his nose

It’s your one-year anniversary on the last concert of the tour, and Jimin tells the audience that he doesn’t want to keep quiet anymore about the person that gives him so much happiness, and he dedicates the song to you

Now that fans have your first name, it’s only a matter of time before they find out who you are

Jimin arranges some security staff for you when he sees the overwhelmingly negative reaction online, and he calls you in tears about it

With your two new bodyguards, you wait at the airport to surprise him when he returns home, and when he sees you he breaks apart from the group and runs to you

You can hear fans screaming and see cameras flashing, but he keeps you tightly in his arms until they make their way to the van, and then you sit on his lap on the drive back to the dorm

Jimin is definitely taking this opportunity to ask BigHit for the millionth time if you can move in

Now that you will be needing security and fans know who you are anyway, they allow it

Jimin is a very popular bias in the group, and it’s a long long time before the chaos dies down, but for those months, the two of you are closer than ever, and he barely lets you out of his sight

One night, when you’re backstage during a concert, jimin once again sings the song he wrote for you, and speaks openly about how hard it’s been with lots of the fans not supporting him having a girlfriend, and all he wants is for army to show you the same love they show him

After that concert, most of army band together so that they can show jimin they love and support him - bringing posters with your ship name on it to concerts, asking if you’re well during fanmeets, and creating a trending twitter hashtag

Fans create imagines on YouTube with videos of Jimin talking about you, and they just chance your name to ‘Y/N’ because what he’s saying and how he’s acting is so romantic and sweet already

TAEHYUNG

Fans start to notice that more and more of the photos he’s tweeting have him in it rather than photos he’s taken, and he doesn’t give photo credit to any of his bandmates so they start to wonder who’s been taking all the photos

army notice tae has been less flirty with fans during fanmeets, and seems less touchy-feely with the other members of bangtan

For a while army think maybe something bad has happened, or he’s getting sick of the idol lifestyle, when in reality, it’s just because he has you to flirt with and cuddle

he shows up to an award show with what looks like a hickey on his neck, half-covered by a choker

He’s not super careful with hiding your relationship, but also doesn’t feel a need to explicitly tell army about you yet, as the two of your are in your own bubble of romance, just happy to have each other

namjoon is shooting a v-live from inside his bedroom one day and when a fan asks if tae is in the room too, he automatically says that tae spends Tuesday nights with you

Namjoon realises his mistake the second he finishes his sentence, and desperately ignores the stream of caps-lock comments asking him who you are and pretends he has to leave and end the stream

Taehyung is angry at namjoon at the start because he’s worried army won’t respond well to him dating you

BigHit have a meeting and ask him to release some form of official statement asap, but he wants to talk with you about it first

The two of you decide that it’s best if tae just posts a selfie of the two of you and say that he’s dating you - something clear but not super specific

It’s not long before you’re getting thousands of comments, tweets and messages flooding in about your relationship with him, but you do your best to not read them

Tae will talk about you and how supportive and wonderful you are if he’s asked, but he likes to keep his relationship pretty private, as he feels it’s more special that way

It takes a while for the fans to come around, but from how much they see of you, they can tell you’re a good match for tae and that you make him happy

JUNGKOOK

Isn’t allowed to reveal his relationship with you for a while, because BigHit wants him to be sure he’s serious about you first, since he’s still quite young and hasn’t been in many relationships before

His hyungs always make sure he doesn’t accidentally reveal something, even going so far as to clean up his room from any hints of a girlfriend/boyfriend (*cough*condoms*cough*, Namjoon learnt this the hard way)

Whenever an interviewer asks the group if any of them are dating/have dated an army before, he gets all fidgety and bites his lip so he doesn’t say anything

Fans notice his weird behaviour whenever dating is mentioned, and they get a little suspicious

he doesn’t complain about not being able to talk about you because he understands how important it is to go about it the right way

So in the end, it’s not actually him that goes public, but jin making a joke during a fanmeet about jungkook’s relationship and accidentally giving it away

Jin’s in deep shit with BigHit but, being jin, couldn’t give a single fuck, and jungkook is kind of happy that he got it over with

Fans are better about him being in a relationship than either of you were expecting, because it’s obvious to everyone how happier he is

And of course there’s a whole load of army who are just happy that jungkookie is getting his dick wet

A blurry, low quality video that a fan took of the two of you surfaces, where you’re sitting on his lap, making out with him in the back of the van, and within a few hours twitter is on fire with the fact that jungkook must be a sub

Jungkook gets wind of this (just imagine him asking namjoon to translate what the English-speaking army are saying and him and you, I’m so dead) and decides to reclaim his dominance, grabbing you out of the crowd during concerts to carry you around the stage, staring directly at you whenever he does hip thrusts during a song, and generally being cocky af ALL THE TIME

Is definitely teasing his hyungs about how he’s getting more action than them

Will bring up his girlfriend/boyfriend out of the blue during bangtan bombs just so he can rub it in their faces

Just a forewarning, this one has a major POV shift from the past entries, since Reader was Dusted at the end of Fidelity! Keeping with my recent trend in fic titles, it’s named after a track on the official soundtrack. I also constantly watch this Video, and recommend it to hype you up!

“If you guys wanted to grab lunch, Bruce and Scott were making tacos in the kitchen.” Natasha said, when we met her inside. “I just put out the call to everyone to come in. Okoye has to stay in Wakanda to keep things running, and I don’t know if Danvers is going to even get our message, but everyone else is on their way right now.”

“Do we have any other way of getting Danvers here faster?” Tony asked.

“We don’t know specifically where she is, so no.” Natasha sighed.

The ground rumbled, and a glance out the panel windows confirmed that Rocket and Nebula had arrived. The Benatar landed next to the building, Scott sitting on a bench and staring in awe at the spaceship.

Rocket and Scott shared a brief exchange, and Rocket came inside to find Bruce and myself. As we exited to get into the Benatar, Rhodes arrived, startling Scott into dropping his taco all over the sidewalk.

“What’s up, regular-sized man?” Rhodey joked, turning to walk into the building.

Bruce passed Scott a few tacos from his own lunch as we boarded the ship, leaving Scott looking both puzzled and thankful.

“Where are we headed?” Bruce asked.

“We’re going to get Thor.” Rocket answered. “I called Val to tell him to come, but she was saying it’s going to be more difficult than that. That’s why you two are coming with.”

This news unsettled me. I had instructed both Thor and Val to contact me if anything went awry, and I had heard nothing from either of them. I had presumed that Thor would leap at the chance to undo what had been done, especially considering what had happened in Wakanda. Had I been wrong about his willingness? Or was something else wrong?

Thoughts continued to spin in my head as we travelled to New Asgard. The Benatar landed outside its outskirts, and we rode in the back of a truck into the city limits.

As we all exited the vehicle, Rocket looked around.

“Kind of a step down from a golden palace and whatnot.” Rocket mumbled.

“Have a little compassion, pal.” Bruce interjected before I could respond. “First, they’ve lost Asgard, then half their people. They’re probably just happy to have a home to live in.”

“You shouldn’t have come!” Val called out to us, looking directly at me.

“Aahhh Valkyrie!” Bruce answered, smiling. “Great to see you, Angry Girl!”

Val raised an eyebrow, looking Bruce up and down. “I think I liked you better either of the other ways.”

“This is Rocket.” Bruce said, trying to shift the subject.

“You you doin’?” Rocket nodded.

“He won’t see you.” Val continued. “I told you that.”

“What happened?” I asked, “Why won’t he see us?”

“He’s holed up in his place, never comes out.” She answered. “Nothing threatening was happening, and I know you had important stuff to do. I was managing on my own alright, didn’t want to needlessly bother you.”

“That bad, huh?” Bruce asked.

“We only see him once a month, when he comes for…” She glanced over to a large pile of beer kegs on the side of the pier, “...supplies.”

“It’s that bad.” Rocket sighed.

“Yea.” Rocket agreed.

“Let’s get my brother out of here.” I said, “We have people to save.”

We walked over to my brother’s home, Rocket pushing open the front door. We all grimaced at the smell that wafted from the house’s interior.

“What the…” Bruce said, confused.

“Whoo!” Rocket said, waving his hand in front of his face. “Something died in here. Hello?”

“Thor?” I called out, my concern rising.

“Are you here about the cable?” Thor called out from a separate room.

Thor slowly walked into view, and my worst hopes for him fell through the floorboards as I saw him. He was walking around shirtless, and had gained an incredible amount of weight since I had been in last. He had obviously leaned heavily into drinking to cope, and the scent of alcohol clung to him.

“The cinemax ran out two weeks ago, and the sports were all kind of fuzzy.” Thor mumbled, turning to face us, finally noticing who we were. “Boys, brother! Oh my God! How have you been?” Thor leaned to try to hug Rocket, “Come here you little rascal!”

“No, I’m good. I’m good.” Rocket said, pushing away. “That’s not necessary.”

“Hulk, you know my friends, Miek, Korg, right?” Thor gestured to the duo sitting on the sofa, playing video games whilst they ate chips.

“Hey, long time no see!” Bruce waved to them.

“Hey guys.” Korg waved back. “Beer’s on the bucket. Feel free to log onto the Wi-Fi. No password, obviously.” After a pause, he looked to Thor. “Thor, he’s back, the kid on the TV. He called me a dickhead again.”

“Noobmaster?” Thor slurred.

“Yea, Noobmaster69.” Korg confirmed, handing Thor the headphones.

As Thor went off on the other player, I sighed. While Thor had always been a happy drunk, I knew that this was nothing more than him trying to escape from everything that had happened. Not that I had been much different. I chose to stay busy to distract myself, and he had chosen to drown his sorrows with drink. I wished that I had realized sooner, perhaps I could have prevented his decline. I had initially left because he had said that he didn’t want to talk, he didn’t want to even interact with me much. Perhaps more insistence from me would have helped him through it...

Thor handed the headphones back to Korg before turning back to us. “So, do you guys want a drink? What are you drinking? We have beer, tequila, all sorts of things.”

Thor picked up a beer, removing the cap with Stormbreaker’s edge. I came up to him, placing my hands on his shoulders firmly.

“Buddy, you alright?” Bruce asked, placing his hand on Thor’s shoulder.

“I’m fine!” Thor insisted between gulps, “Why, don’t I look alright?”

“You look like melted ice cream.” Rocket said, rolling his eyes.

Thor laughed, taking another drink. “So, what’s up?”

“We need your help.” Bruce said, trying to calmly get through my brother’s drunken stupor. “There might be a chance that we could fix everything.”

“What, like the cable?” Thor asked with a belch. “Cause that’s been driving me bananas for weeks.”

“Like Thanos.” Bruce said softly.

Thor’s face darkened instantly, the smile gone from his face. Thor placed a shaky hand on Bruce’s shoulder and pointed at him, beer bottle still in his hand.

“Don’t you say that name.” Thor slurred.

Korg stood, removing his headphones. “Um, yea. We don’t actually say that name in here.”

“Please, take your hand off me.” Bruce said, removing Thor’s hand gently. “Now, I know that… guy… might scare you.”

“Why would I be? Why would, why would I be scared of that guy? I'm the one who killed that guy, remember? Anyone else here killed that guy?” Thor said, his emotions fighting to be acknowledged. “Nope. Didn't think so. Korg, why don't you, tell everybody who chopped Thanos' big head off.”

“Umm, Stormbreaker?” Korg answered, unsure.

“Now, who was swinging Stormbreaker?” Thor continued.

“I get it. You're in a rough spot, okay? I've been there myself.” Bruce said, gently trying to break through the wall Thor had built up. “You wanna know who helped me out of it?”

“I don't know.” Thor mused, smiling. “Is it… Natasha?”

“It was you.” Bruce answered. “You helped me”

Thor walked over to a window, pointing out through the dirty glass. “Why don't you ask the, Asgardians down there, how much my help was worth.” He sighed, sitting onto a chair. “The ones that are left, anyway.”

“I think we can bring them back.” Bruce said.

“Stop. Just, stop…” Thor said, reaching for a snack. “I know you think I’m down here wallowing in my own self-pity, waiting to be rescued and saved. But I’m fine okay? We’re fine, aren’t we?”

“All good here, mate!” Korg replied, waving.

“So, whatever it is that you’re offering, we’re not into it, don’t care couldn’t care less.” Thor said, finishing off his bottle. “Goodbye.”

Unable to bear it any longer, I broke my silence.

“But you’re not fine! Look at yourself, brother.” I said, my voice raised. “I know as well as anyone what it’s like to lose everyone, to feel like you’ve failed everyone you’ve ever cared about.” I bit my tongue, lowering my voice as my own emotions began to influence my words.

“To know that you’ve failed them, that you’re the reason they’re gone.” I almost whispered, my throat tight.

“There is nothing I would want more than to be able to run away from my duties. I tried to. To run away from the fact that nearly my entire family was stolen from me, and that I’m the one to blame for all of it!” I shouted, hot tears streaming down my face as Thor continued to look down at the ground and his empty hands. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t there. I’m sorry that I couldn’t fix everything, no matter how hard I may have tried. I’m sorry that I was too wrapped up in my own selfish interests to help you when you needed it most. But I’m trying to fix that now, and I need you to let me! I can’t lose the only family I have left! I can’t lose you the way that I lost mother, the way that I lost (Y/N). The guilt of their deaths eats away at me every single day, and while I have no one to blame but myself for that, I refuse to let you throw yourself away like this. I need you, Thor, and I know that you need me too.”

I stepped back, trying to compose myself. “I want to be better, I want to do what’s right. All I’m asking is that you come along with me. I need you.”

“We all need you, pal.” Bruce added softly.

Thor sighed heavily, grabbing a few beers and standing up.

“What’s our plan?”

What do you think of bleach's ending?

How cool to be asked about my fave manga before Naruto. But first let me say that I haven’t followed the last 2 arcs with the same interest I had for Naruto’s, so my impression is not as deep. Also how does it work in the Bleach fandom? I take there are antis and wars and hate everywhere? But all my ship hate/ending criticism is tagged as anti, if someone has a problem with it anyway I couldn’t care less.

Ok first of all I don’t remember a lot of details, and I didn’t get others lol, cause Bleach fight scenes are confusing and arcs are repetitive, it’s like Kubo has nice ideas when it comes to style and design but he is lazy with narration. Especially in the last 2 arcs. For example Yamamoto dying and being replaced by Kyoraku was ok, but Ukitake and the whole Mimihagi thing..not sure if I liked it. The Unohana/Jinpachi plot twist was kinda cool but I why did she had to die ugh I kinda shipped them. Also where the hell is Yachiru in the end? AND KIRA? I forgot about the Vizard but I like them. Oh and what the hell happened in the final fight between Ichigo and Yhwach? It was so confusing? I never really liked Aizen but him released to fight alongside Ichigo was a cool move. If only I understood what happened, that is.

I didn’t get some fights but I liked the new interaction certain fights provided, like older Bankai Toshirou and Byakuya’s panel in ch672, or Byakuya and Shuuhei against that heart throwing guy whose name I forgot.

What I always liked about Bleach was the style, I really like how sleek and powerful Kubo draws his characters, I like how diverse he made the different races, with different language based words and stuff, the music references, the poetry Kubo put in his writing, he’s got an artist-like vibe imo, more than other mangakas. Anyway I like his female characters better than Naruto’s, cause they have a more independent and interesting personality, although I have a problem with Rukia’s hairstyle and with Orihime’s anything. Actually I don’t even hate her, as a comic side character she was funny, but as a heroine? Just give me Rukia, Tatsuki, Matsumoto, even Momo, but not her. But I don’t make the rules and shounen law needs the main character to get together with big tits/whiny girl.

So as you can tell I don’t like the main canon pairing. I liked Ichiruki much better cause there was an actual deep friendship between them, from day 1, a strong bond with mutual feelings of trust and affection. Mutual. And they were equals, there was no weak girl to be protected cause Rukia had first given Ichigo the power. But from a logical pov I guess they’re from different worlds so the pairing wouldn’t work considering the future. Rukia would have had to do like Ichigo��s father, giving up to her shinigami powers and all. It would have been romantic and kinda Inuyasha-esque.

Not considering Ichiruki, if pairings had to exist (cause a manga can actually end without characters getting married, even tho mangakas seem to forget it) I’d have liked Ichigo with Tatsuki. Sorry I like strong characters getting with strong characters. And don’t give me the ‘Ori/hime is strong’ cause her strength is different, hyped up by the narration and anyway even considering her kind of strenght she would have matched other kinds of characters better. I liked her with Ulquiorra lol, back in the days. Cause he was like a child, pure in a way, about emotions and feelings, while she was knowledgeable. I also liked her with Ishida. A lot. They had mutual respect and a relationship in which they were equals, so I’d have liked them together much better.

I gotta say though, that I like Ishida alone in the end. He was a Sasuke sort of character, seeking revenge for his clan, being in conflict with his father (since he doesn’t have a brother) in the beginning, rival to the protagonist, joining the dark side at some point. I actually liked his plot twist when he joined the Quincy Army, I liked his backstory, his mother and all (also the soap opera-ish triangle sort of story between his father, Ichigo’s mother and the maid-his mom…like. It really looked like a soap), and I would have liked to know more about his time there cause it was interesting. His fight agaisnt Jugram was cool too. Also he delivered the realest line ever and you guys know how much I love animals and animal-loving characters. I’d love to see that scene animated tbh…also because Ishida’s voice actor is Sasuke’s and hearing him talking that way of animals would be so cool cause both characters share that trait.

I kinda liked Jugram too, and his past with Bazz-B, and the way his fight with Ishida ended. tbh he was the only Sternritter I liked. Oh well I didn’t dislike the fear based one fighting Byakuya cause it gave us so much fanservice, bloodied wounded Byakuya, as well as the later part where we see Byakuya unconscious and all bandaged up floating in water…or Renji naked and bandaged as he wakes up. Speaking of which, I’m a Byaren shipper but mostly I ship Renji with everyone lol, Renji is my favourite character, he’s amazing and underrated, his backstory and personality and bonds were really interesting and it was a pity that he was put aside as the story progressed, as a side character and even more so as a kinda comical sidekick, cause he has a light side but his story wasn’t a light one but if I start talking about him this post will never end I guess, anyway he was deep and selfless, a rebel but also loyal and his relationships, major or minor ones (even with Kira and Momo, or with Ikkaku who taught him how to fight when they were in the 11th division together, cause Renji changed so many!) were all cool. (like, I’m looking at Renji wikia for a detail and I’m back to the old feelings for him)

So even tho I didn’t ship Renruki I was glad to see the way it was done. The final chapters kinda showed them getting closer (like Ichihime that was being blatantly pushed onto the reader, also after the Naruto ending I was suspecting a similar ending so) and they’re both shinigami so their pairing was technically easier than Ichiruki…also his feelings for Rukia, his loyalty and protectiveness and respect for her are beautiful and I like the idea that during the time Ichigo had no powers Rukia and Renji got closer. Also I hate the whole forced kids anime trend but I liked them as parents and their kid a lot, cause they didn’t change personality at all, in fact they’re chill parents, kinda reckless and kinda boastful, you can tell they have a nice complicity and that they’re happy. I think this is the only canon pairing I’ll ever like tbh.

I like that Ichigo took over his father’s clinic, a small one, while Ishida became an important medic. I never liked Sado but the group getting together ad Ichigo’s place to see the match was a cool idea imo. It has the element Naruto’s ending lacked, cause it put together the old group, showing that despite time passed they’re still friends.

As someone who’s followed wahaj’s career for many years, I’m glad to see him trending every week. I’m also very happy for Talha for gaining such notoriety for one of his first projects (well-deserved).

I do think there’s a distinct lack of praise being given to maya compared to what Wahaj and Talha are getting. Talha and wahaj are given more exaggerated characters compared to Sonia: Rumi with his brilliant Bengali accent and his passion; Farrukh with his optimism but also developing leadership skills….and then there’s Sonia, a well-realistic but nuanced character.

Whereas wahaj and Talha play their respective characters almost the same throughout the episodes we’ve seen so far, Sonia plays a different character with her mother than she does with Farrukh than she does with Rumi (for the most part) than she does when advocating for the safety of WPs. Maya is the actor who’s probably given the most layers to her character and I’m saying this as NOT a maya fan and someone who watched the drama only for wahaj. Sonia’s layers aren’t as evident because she’s not putting on an accent and a lot of her interactions are with her family so they come off as more natural, but she’s definitely the one who shows a different bond and intonation with each different character of the series. Of the three leads, she the least romantic as the two guys show way more interest in her than she does with either of them, yet I feel like maya is only really brought up when it comes to the shipping. Shame.

That isn’t to denounce wahaj and Talha or any other actor because they’re all doing great. It is something I have noticed, however, that in dramas where you have strong male and female leads, the female lead is almost always looked over until it comes time to discuss who she’ll marry. There are a couple of dozen articles and posts about wahaj in JBG every week whereas maya has maybe gotten a handful in the last month (just checked). I hope as the series progresses, Maya gets more credit. She deserves it for this one.

I am genuinely baffled at the way the industry doesn't give Maya credit for her acting abilities. I know MK complains about journalists feeling apologetic for praising her (????????????) but the situation is worse with Maya. she's not a bad actor! her filmography is strong with diverse characters! i remember how I had celebrated Maya's win at LSA for Mann Mayal saying that the woman fuckin' deserves it specially after being trolled online so much for a character that had the general audience crying with and for her for weeks.

Here's what I think - I think the female actors in Pakistan only get attention if they are the "hero" of the story. and by hero I mean unless they play some larger than life character with either a lot of in-your-face swagger or a victim of some heinous crime that they have to struggle overcome. a normal "heroine" character doesn't get them the same kind of attention. for example, I believe Mawra was brilliant in Sabaat but the more hype was given to Sarah's character because she dressed extremely well and had the elite class snobbery. give the same female actors normal, realistic, relatable characters and the audience/critics will brush that performance off as "expected". male actors get a lot of leeway because the bar is in literal hell here in terms of writing. give them a character who respects women and oye hoye hoyeee aisa hero toh kabhi kisi ne dekhaaaa hi nahin hoga! and we all know that negative characters gain more attention anyway.

As much as Maya's characters differ a lot from each other..the one similarity in all of them is that they are all gharelu ladkiyan with realistic, relatable problems. even with Sonia we see her more as a daughter than a leader of some revolutionary party. it's like...a woman who cooks in the kitchen and the man who looks as a career...swaad dono ke haath mein hai but the latter is praised to the skies while the former is dismissed as just doing their duty. I think Maya is a victim of this mentality. e.g. Zulekha was a fuckin' phenomenal character who fought tooth and nail for her agency. but since she did that within the walls of her house..she did that with just her words delivered in the tone of respect..Maya's performance isn't mentioned as something worthwhile.

Lmao once again can’t title but I’m back, and the request was for an award show or something but the isac’s where the other day and wanna one has never gone and I like to dream okay so I hope this is okay, i could do another at an actual show w another member if you’d like idk. Also props to whoever can tell whoever the idols faces at the isac’s I edited out of the pictures (That I don’t own btw credit to owners) for the header board thingy belong to hehe.

Summary: All your fans are shipping you with Daniel and you can’t say you disagree.

• The ISAC’s were always something you had mixed emotions about, • Your group was pretty popular and didn’t exactly need the promotion, but your company was small so it was a good idea to go anyway, even if it was just to have a bit of fun, • You enjoyed spending time with friends from other groups and sending your fans things you’d made, but you could be working on new songs and just the fact the day was so long, • But at least you got to wear a tracksuit like damn, • You were a self producing group who tried out most genres, generally more hiphop and R&B so you’d had many different clothing styles, but nothing beat the black tracksuit the event organizer handed you and the four others in your group, • But at way too early o'clock (honestly any time before 11 am) you pulled yourself out of the car with your group and made your way to the stadium, you all had unique styles; braided hair or sunglasses, • Wow y'all so beautiful and powerful looking I’m quaking, • Y'all known for singing about important matters and independence and basically being badass and are actually rlly respected for it and popular, • Don’t take no shit from no one, you’re out to win today, • And to compliment your friends about all their comebacks and catch up of course, • And then there’s the small matter of Mr Kang Daniel, • One of the boys of the Monster Rookie™ group Wanna One that had taken the nation’s hearts pretty much overnight, • The fans of your group and his had, continuously since their debut, been shipping you nonstop, • And yeah, you thought he was cute and funny but you’d never even met; the most you’ve done was nod to each other or complimented his group on passing after a performance, • And you’re slightly afraid that the shipping would now make it awkward for the two of you to meet and interact; afraid your Stan’s would take it way too far, • You just hope you can get a ‘hi’ or a quick conversation in today with him, although you know it may be difficult, • But your whole group is about not really caring about others’ standards, so you’re going have to remember that, • The opening runs smoothly, and you manage to sneak up to where the fans are and hand out your lunch boxes yourself, although the rules say you really shouldn’t go to the fans area, • (VIXX what trolls this year tho I love them) • You’re sat with Irene and Yeri, Seulgi quite literally asleep on your lap and your members teasing your fans not 10 feet away and honestly wow, • But then the archery gets called up and you have to slide yourself away, • Which breaks your heart because yanno when a puppy is asleep on you so you can’t move? • Like that, • But you grab Tae, the member you’re going to do archery with, and wander off, • You go second, so while you’re waiting you slip some black face paint out of your pocket, before painting some black streaks across Tae’s cheeks as she paints 3 down your face, • Because how else you gunna show you’re ready for war????? • As soon as your competitors look over to you they burst out laughing at the funny faces you pull, one of those competitors in waiting including Kang Daniel himself,

• You make sure to send him a goofy fake scowl, challenging him, to which he cracks up,

• Omg a beautiful sight, Daniel smiling? Those cresent eyes? Soft cheeks? WoW, • In essence - face paint is a very effective way to distract your competitors as well as amusing your fans, • And you totally ace the archery, • You walk away with a Silver medal and that’s totally good enough for you, • But then an interview reporter grabs you and you’re whisked away, • At this point you’re used to it, them Interviewers - they’re everywhere, • “Y/N congratulations on the silver medal! It must have something to do with the face paint?” • The lady smiles brightly and you laugh a little, • “It must be, it was Tae’s idea to show we meant business,” • The lady laughs at this, and starts to ask questions about your latest comeback and the paint, noting how you may have started a new fashion trend, the concept of your new song and making you rap a little bit of your verse, to which your fans scream, • Wow we love a supportive family, • They make your heart race as always as you wave to them, • “One quick thing before you go, Y/N, I don’t suppose you’ve heard your fans talk about you and wanna ones Kang Daniel?” • You’re heart drops at that and you blush, laughing nervously, • “I’ve seen a few things, but don’t know a lot about it,” • You’re such a great liar damn no one suspects a thing, • “Ah, quite a lot of fans are shipping you; saying you’d make a very cute couple,” • You know this is very much a breach of privacy and kinda rude, but you’re known for being quite laid back in your group, so you’re not thrown, although maybe a little lost for words,

• And answers, • And anything that won’t give away your small crush on the member of wanna one, • “ Ah, I think our fans are right, Daniel is very cute and charming, although I’ve not really got the opportunity to get to know him yet,” • Lmao smooth, • Yeah right, you’re pretty obvious, • Although you’re sort of mortified by the fact you’ve inadvertently just said 1) Daniel is very cute to thousands of people and 2) you basically ship the two of you, • You do your natural thing and play it off as if you just told them your first name, • You hear some laughing nearby and quickly glance to spot where you recognise Ong Seongwoo and Kim Jaehwan slapping Daniel himself on the back, way too close, his cheeks bright red and a soft smile on his face as the cameras, no doubt, zoom in on him, • He waves a little when he sees you looking, • Wow what is a normal heart rate,

• You laugh, • At least you’re not the only one to get a taste of this embarrassment, • You’re not alone in your suffering, • And you nearly run away to hide when the interviewer motions Daniel to come closer and he actually complies, • What a snake, • He greets the interviewer and the two of you bow to each other all flushed, not knowing how to stand next to each other, • It’s all very awkward wow, • You know you’ve all been in the situation where you’re with that family member and they’ve already asked about school/work and now have nothing to say, • yeah idk if that’s too specific, • “Daniel, I don’t suppose you’ve heard about the fans shipping either? How do you feel about it?” • You want to melt as Daniels eyes meet yours and a smile stretches across his face, • “I think y/n’s music is incredible and she’s very cute and I’d like to get to know her more,” • You’re dead, • Daniels whole face is red as his eyes skim everywhere and he laughs a little, • This is so weird and unheard of, don’t fans usually not want their idols to date? Aren’t there many things and rules about this? • (y'all it’s stupid it’s their own life let idols date if they want) • But here you are, stood next to your crush, both of you blushing messes, getting set up by your own fans, • “Well that’s very interesting, make sure to get to know each other later,”

• The MC/interviewer chirps and you laugh and stay cool as always, proud you haven’t let anything show except for maybe a slight blush, • Daniel goes to leave but quickly throws his arms around you, giving you a hug at the speed of light before flying away,

• You can hear the fans in the stadium squeal jeez, • Wow, what just happened??? • You quickly jog back to your group who’s hanging out with GFriend and Seventeen after having to send some aegyo to the crowd, • You nearly died of the embarrassment and cringe, but soldiered through, • Let’s just say you get roasted, • Apparently everyone in your group is a savage???? Do they hate you???? Wish for your torment????? • Nah they’re just your best friends, • And just when you’re forgetting about your interview ordeal, your group gets called for the relay race you’re all determined to conquer, having perfect harmony for the change over, • While you may not be the tallest, you’re all fast as hell, having run away from your manager a couple of times, • Lmao you just wanted boba tea, • But you draw more paint, all slightly different, onto the others’ faces before heading over to the track to show everyone what running actually is, • You run last, which is a lot of pressure wow, • And your member is running towards you and they’re neck and neck with a member of twice like damn, • But you take the baton smooth as hell and your legs move quicker than you can compute, almost leaving your torso behind as you focus your whole mind on faster, smoother, faster, • As you’re speeding past you spot Daniel out of the corner of your eye yelling and you can hear your name and wow, • Your heart starts hammering even harder and your head goes a little dizzy, your legs stumbling a little, • But nah you don’t let no boy get in the way of your gold medal as you steam ahead and wow, • 1st place what a gem, • I mean it’s your 3rd gold medal in relay, you guys holding the title, just champs I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ • When sport 💪💪 is life ✌✌✌ can’t let anyone 👨👩 beat you 💃💃 • I hate myself, • But then Daniel’s doing relay as well so you make sure to cheer equally as loud, • Which is hard when you’re still catching your breath, • Who needs Oxygen anyway??? • And the little shit has the audacity to, very obviously, send you a wink, • An unmistakable wink, • What sort of out of the world confidence does he have, he was in 2nd place as well, • As much as you’re shook, it makes you a little soft, but no one will leT yOu lIVE, • All slapping your back or ruffling your hair, • The DeFianCe??? • But you go to get a water bottle and who do you run into? • Yeah, Daniel, • “Congrats on gold~” • His soft tone, • wow, • His soft smile, • Wow, • The two if you actually talking? • W o w, • “Hey I’m sorry about earlier, I didn’t mean to put you in the spot and-” • Lmao yeah, maybe you feel bad a lil for dragging him into what may be a nightmare of always being asked about each other, • “No it’s okay, I’ve wanted to talk to you for a long time, I meant it when I said you where cute,” • Wow you’re a goner for this rookie, • “So did I,” • Wow smooth, not awkward at all,

• It makes your hand tingle and you’re heart race at the close proximity, standing on your tiptoes and resting a hand on his shoulder for support, • It’s only when you’ve finished do you realise his is now pretty much identical to yours, • WhoOps ACcIDenTS HaPPEn, • But he still looks damn cute, • And you know a fancam of this will be all over the internet later, • Hey; you may even share it on a private account who can say????? • And wow if you don’t continue to spend the rest of the ISAC’s together, taking stupid pictures with people and giving the internet a heart attack, • By the end of the day it seems almost all idols have some sort of facepaint? • A star or a couple of lines of just a smudge done by a member of their group, • A trend starter? • But you’re all leaving the arena with the SqUAD, • But then a hand gently takes your wrist and Daniel leads you to the side of the corridor with your group mates sending teasing smirks over the shoulder to you, • With a shy smile he holds out a piece of paper folded neatly and you can see the outline of numbers written on it, • You laugh lightly, taking the paper and carefully tucking it into your pocket, • “Text me when you get home?” • You nod, knowing you’ll spend too long deciding whether to say 'heya’ or 'hi’ and then make a split second decision and put something else entirely, • And Daniel is just way too cute for you to take, • He makes a move to leave, eyes hovering over you, before slowly leaning over and gently placing his lips on your forehead, ever so sweet, before nodding, smiling quickly and sliding away

DJing, performing and loneliness.

I’ve been meaning to write something about this for a few weeks now. Firstly when I started to feel a little depressed again after months of feeling refreshed and reinvigorated. Secondly, after Avicii died and when a lot of my friends dismissed the situation stating “Oh well, his music was shit anyway.” And finally, during mental health awareness week, when I saw loads of people lighting up my social media, the news, and the world with positive messages that it is ok to feel empty, lost and hopeless sometimes, which is important to hear, even if it does start to sometimes get a little repetitive, acceptance is key - and it seems the world has begun to embrace mental health and the benefits of discussing it and being aware of taking care of our mental well-being in our daily lives.

I’m here to talk about the darker side of my experiences within my job, a job which I love to bits. I get to play music in various forms for a living and I could not be more thankful that this and this alone, mostly pays for my electricity and food and rent. Although it’s not been an easy path, or a quick one - and the route to this situation has been dogged with difficult scenarios, the most difficult of all, constant loneliness.

When I began DJing I didn’t even consider how much solitude and isolation I was entering myself into. I just loved music. My first residency was at a bar called SOYO in Sheffield - where I would play for 4 or 5 hours on a Sunday night. I’d spend hours all day picking out music for the evening, working on my mixes, downloading, researching, picking through old CD’s and vinyl in every charity shop I could find trying to ensure that my sets were interesting and varied every time - although it often didn’t matter because unless a big group of my friends came down to see me play (which they did quite regularly and I can never thank them enough for that) I would just have the general public mouthing off in my ear about playing more Rihanna and turning my shit soul music off.

My first night at SOYO playing “Mixtape” - I bought all these cassettes for about 5p each in a charity shop and carried them in every week for decoration.

I was also working a “normal” job at the time, in a hotel as a waiter and bar tender. I was offered a second DJ residency and quickly worked out the sums, in two DJ gigs per week, I would be earning more than I would for working 30 hours at the hotel. I took great pleasure in telling my bosses to fuck off on a particularly stretched evening where I was clicked at by a man who hosted celebrity dinners, the particular celebrity this evening was Trigger from Only Fools And Horses. He wanted more champagne. I wanted him to get shat on by a flock of seagulls (the band or a load of angry sea birds) Deciding that was probably not going to happen inside a 3 star hotel, I walked out instead.

Practicing mixes whilst my housemates and I prepared for a night out on the town, no doubt a few beers in. Ironing board was a great DJ booth.

That was the second to last time that I worked as part of a “team” (there’s no ‘I’ in team, but there is an ‘I’ in ‘isolation’) and I’ve only just realised that now, writing this. I threw myself into solitude at work. Not only would I be spending long hours behind the decks picking out records (a lot of which I hated) to try and encourage people to have a good time, slowly honing my craft, earning my stripes - as they say, I would also be on my own during a lot of the day, picking out music for future gigs, emailing people to try and get work, practicing mixes, recording mixes, over and over again to try and prove that I was good enough, chasing up payments that had been promised but never delivered, all the while learning about music history, keeping up with current trends, emerging trends, reading about popular music in all its forms since the pirate radio days of the late 60′s - to 90′s rave and 00′s boy bands, really just attempting to diversify myself as a music collector and human - whilst most of my other friends were at work. And when my friends finished work and invited me out for a pint, for a birthday meal, round to their house to watch a film, or out on a date, I was busy working as many days as I could to make a living doing something that I absolutely adored. And gradually, the invitations stopped coming. And I didn’t even notice. I was obsessed with making playing music, my job. And going out after I finished my job with people that worked in bars and getting pissed because I was so desperate for human interaction. Sadly, a lot of these situations I can’t even remember. There could have been some great ideas discussed, but in all honesty, there probably wasn’t!

My friend Ben travelled back to the UK from New Zealand. It was the first time I had seen him in 5 years, and I was obviously working. He bought us double rums all night. I was very ill the next morning.

There was a point around 5 years ago, when I DJ’d every single day for 3 months straight. And because back then I was only just starting out, most of the gigs I did for free or for very little money. I didn’t have time to go and see my friends. I barely saw my housemates, although we did have some incredibly special moments during those years. Then, I took a job teaching - working in a small team of wonderful individuals and my entire outlook on everything changed. I was happier and fulfilled and I didn’t know why. I wasn’t feeling distant as much, even though this was only a temp job and it paid barely enough to afford food for the week. The interactions with other human beings were worth more than the £50 a shift, more invigorating to my happiness than a big bag of chips and a can of dandelion & burdock.

I left Sheffield in 2014 and then my troubles really began. Now living in Leeds, I was short on work there, so travelled back to Sheffield regularly on the M1, via trains, on the National Express - usually alone. I would then DJ alone, for upwards of 5 hours, and then return home, where I would sleep - wake up alone, spend all day alone as my then girlfriend went to work, finding music, chasing gigs - mind constantly whirring, rarely allowing myself time to see friends, to see family or to relax - there were bills to pay and music was the only way I was going to pay them - and I would make it work.

Playing indie bangers at Bumper in Liverpool - I caught the train and after the venue closed at 5am, I waited until 8am for the first train home sat on the steps outside Lime St Station.

I fell into the worst part of my depression after the collapse of two relationships in quick succession - left alone to stew and process that heartbreak and misery for many hours a day as well as the usual non-stop work, travel, work, travel to work, travel work, work and non-stop work, that no-one even noticed that I wasn’t ok, because they were so used to not hearing from me. The assumption was (and still is in many cases) that I was that “funny guy” on their Facebook, that made them laugh or dance when they saw me (probably constantly drunk at this point, because I was absolutely fucking miserable) and not the guy that spent hours and hours on end in bed all day cry-laughing at himself for being a fucking hopeless loser and focussing on all the wrong things in a constant downward spiral of epic proportions.

A wonderful doctor friend of mine, Sarah, recognised I was depressed and encouraged me to visit my GP. I was in the GP for all of ten seconds, before I was dismissed with the NHS depression helpline number and told “It’s about a 6 month wait if you want to talk to someone.” Sarah then took it upon herself to ring me every day, even if it was just for 5 minutes - she’s a true credit to the NHS, her profession and a fucking good mate. She rang me every single day, without fail. She encouraged me to form a focus - and I decided to relocate to Manchester for a fresh start and new challenge.

I’ve since had further help, a course of counselling at which my counsellors immediate opening gambit, when I told her how I was feeling and that I didn’t know why, was to say “Well it sounds like you’re a little bit lonely.” Things clicked pretty fast after that and I realised how important it was to make time to see your loved ones, the very thing I had been missing out on for years.

I’ve spoken to very few musicians, performers and even photographers/videographers/cruise ship dancers/fridge repair technicians that haven’t told me that at some point during their career they’ve not felt lonely - it goes with the territory of being self-employed or working in the arts/entertainment industry. It’s all “smiles for the gram” then smashing in a fucking gram, to forget that you’re fucking miserable and sat on your own most of the time, scrolling through your phone hoping that someone, anyone messages you with a better offer than “do you fancy sitting on the sofa in your pants going over your setlist for tonight again whilst simultaneously listening to 18 shit house remixes of the latest shit house record that you don’t really like but they’re hammering it on daytime radio so you probably better download it - just incase.”

I’ve started interacting with my DJ pals more and more over the last year or so - and also the bar staff and managers in venues that I work in. Human interaction is hugely important and DJing/photographing/playing live music in bars and clubs can be a very negative environment, particularly when the general public often leave their manners at the door, or on the toilet floor after they’ve smashed in a few lines/tequilas. There’s a whole heap of rejection, huge highs that come out of the blue and big lows that shake you to your core, financially and emotionally - losing gigs sucks, being skint sucks, your favourite venues being forced to close down sucks, realising you’re too old to understand why students like certain songs sucks, being constantly berated and belittled as you just try to do your job on a Saturday night, by drunken wankers that apparently know more about music and the performing of music than you do, yet somehow, they appear to not have been booked to play this particular weekend SUCKS, being used as a cloakroom sucks, having beer spilled all over the thousands of pounds worth of equipment you’ve scrimped and saved for over the years and all over your favourite t-shirt DOUBLY SUCKS and walking out of a bar or club hoping that you’ve done a good job but not really being sure and having to then drive 3 hours home, on your own, via motorway closures, speed restrictions and road kill generally fucking sucks. But you can’t do anything else once that love has gripped you. You will play music until you die, until you breathe your last breath of grotty smoke machine fluid, get your last electric shock from a terrible bashed in plug socket in whatever bashed in, held together with sellotape club/bar you are playing in on the night and float off into the big DJ heaven in the sky, where there is a big sign saying “No morons, no requests, just 100% good music.” It’s in our blood.

I’ve also found things that help to combat my loneliness at work, and the best ones are as follows. Having a group chat via social media with other DJ’s/Musicians that are working at the same time as you - sending jokes and laughing at other people’s shit requests in a group is wonderful. We also have socials where we all meet in person and laugh at people and their shit requests. And all the DJ in-jokes come out and we sit and make snide remarks like a bunch of gassed up Beyonce’s. Taking time off from weekend gigs, to socialise with friends, family and my amazing supportive and understanding girlfriend (DJ Widow Numero Uno and the best thing that ever happened to me) - I now try and plan my calendar a few weeks/months in advance so I can book these occasions in. Plus it gives you something to look forward to on the weekends/whatever other anti-social hours you are working. Taking time to try and engage with the public when they’re making requests (to a certain extent - I don’t let people take the piss!) cos as before, human interaction (even with drunk strangers that want you to play Cotton Eye Joe because it’s Sharon’s birthday and she’s 45) = Hugely important.

Also I’ve very much enjoyed collaborating during music making, or music playing once or twice a month, so I’m not just sat on my own making weird pop music in our back bedroom. Most importantly, taking a bit of time away from music (although it is the second most important thing in my entire life) to engage in other activities. If you’re like me and your entire focus is on one thing and it engulfs your entire existence, it can become a bit exhausting, particularly for your friends who really, REALLY don’t care who you think the next best UK underground trip-hop swing crossover band are going to be, they just don’t care. They want to talk about the football. Go and watch the football. Music/work will be waiting when you get back.

The invitations aren’t flying in thick and fast, but I think that some of my closer friends have now started to realise that I’m not just constantly busy these days and I do want to see them and socialise and have fun. I always have, I just didn’t make them aware of it very well. And life is busy and sometimes things get in the way of hanging out with one another, but laughing at inappropriate jokes with good friends over a decent cup of tea will always make me happier than playing Darude - Sandstorm to a festival crowd of 2,000 people adorned with glowsticks. Well, it’s kind of 50/50 actually. But you can do both, on the same day, if you’re really clever.

I hope this advice helps someone, even if it just makes you chuckle thinking about me hiding under my duvet severely depressing having a cry whilst at the same time laughing myself for how pathetic I am. Whether you’re just starting out or years into a career in music - loneliness is a real issue in the music industry and beyond - as if a constant fear of inadequacy, perfectionism, constant rejection, living hand to mouth, threat of going deaf and never being able to hear music again, venues closing and your car insurance premiums rising through the roof isn’t enough to send you over the edge, add in total unabridged loneliness to the bundle and you’ve got an unhappy sandwich soaked in misery dripping right there. But you don’t have to eat it. You always have a choice.

Fuck loneliness.

You also have a tendency to write Katsuki as a deer in the headlights or suffer emotion induced paralysis/stupidity/recklessness which works for your plots. Usually by the time that comes up you have written him into a state where that response is believable. Path to Villainy/early Villainy featured glimmers of intelligent, competent and cautious Katsuki, but recent stories and updates he seems to have lost his brain which is a shame because his intelligence would make him more of a challenge-

- for your villain Izukus. Canonically his emotional immaturity does compromise his intelligence and in One exception there is very good reason why he’s compromised, so I see why you write him like you do.

However, is it because you do see him a little stupid that you tend him write him this way, or is having two intellects/tactians against each other difficult to write that you need to nerf one or is it just so he is vulnerable in a way that Izuku can win.

I hope this is not read as me getting at you. I am more curious about your process as a writer and challenges when writing the plots and characters as well as this emerging trend. Is it so you can keep the stories reasonably short? Is it because you don’t see the character as intelligent or is it just how you characterize Villain Izuku is so much smarter or his will so much greater that Katsuki’s comparative intelligence is barely a factor.

I am asking because I think your a greater writer and care about your thoughts but if this upsets you and you don’t want to answer, that is perfectly reasonable and I’ll apologize in advance.

[I only jumped in your ask box because you showed self awareness about Izuku and this trend with Katsuki is something I noticed in your stories and was interested in but I don’t want to put something that looks negative in your comments so I just leave kudos in AO3.]

Yo! Oh man. I saw this an hour ago and was upset I wasn’t someplace I could answer. I love attention and I could ramble about my fanfiction and the headcanons behind it all day if you let me (If any of you want to hit me up on Skype or Discord to talk fic meta I’m here. Just sayin’). Ha ha. So this was awesome to see and I’m gonna’ just drop an essay in your lap because I can. :D

My next thought was “Ah yes. That lovely thing happened where what an author intends doesn’t always make it to the page, which is why for all my original writing I try to have a beta reader” followed immediately by “This is karmic retribution for giving Harry such a hard time in his fifth book when I read it with absolutely zero thought or awareness given to his mental state.”

It’s my turn on the other side. Ha ha ha. XD Anyway this is a super long post so I’m just gonna smack a cut right here~

I guess I’ll start with saying that fanfiction is a fun, self-indulgent thing for me so I am very guilty of exaggerating traits of characters that I like.

In the case of Izuku, I make him way thirstier for Katsuki than he actually is (for rule of funny & shipping purposes) and I like to play with his more selfish/greedy side such as Izuku specifically wanting to be the star hero that people look up to to make them smile/feel better/cheer, even if it was unreasonable because he was Quirkless etc. vs Just Helping People However He Can, even if it’s not in the limelight.

This sort of leads to writing an Izuku that wants Katsuki to see him specifically. A “I worked hard for this and became someone amazing so he should notice me.” attitude.

(I’m not saying this is a bad thing. Wanting to be a public role model & person people look up to is natural. But there is a fine line between genuinely wanting to help people, and wanting to do it for the fame & spotlight. Which is a much longer discussion. Canon Izuku is genuinely empathetic and cares about people and he’s definitely a Hero, but he’s also selfish, angry, and reckless and I like highlighting that second part of his character because it often gets ignored.)

Whereas for Katsuki, I like exaggerating his general lack of social awareness (he has a bad habit of not paying attention to the people around him; like not learning their names or not knowing his classmates Quirks at the Sports Festival), his misunderstandings of others due to his pride and his general insecurities (The entire “Deku was looking down on me” thing), and I like to headcanon a little bit of self-hatred and denial (Less in canon and more things I like to explore as ‘what-ifs’). Etc.

I also am very guilty of exaggerating how much he picked on Deku in middle school. In the canon, I honestly don’t think it was that bad. I think there was the one time he beat up Deku when they were tiny, and then the rest of it was a lot of Katsuki ignoring Izuku. Their interactions in the first episode seem like a special case due to Izuku being an open threat to Katsuki’s future (He was scared enough Izuku might actually make it in and ruin his “I’m the only one who got in” that he didn’t want him to even try). He was threatened and lashed out with harsh words that even his friends thought were “too much.”

But I admittedly like violent characters, so I tend to exaggerate Katsuki’s physical side. Heh.

However, one thing that I’ve never seen him as is stupid. Ignorant at times? Sure. But stupid? Never.

In fact, I had to laugh because I end up writing a lot of his “Deer in the headlight/Panic” moments very specifically because I think he’s a smart guy.

I like to write Katsuki as someone who does not understand & can’t wrap his head around why Izuku would like him. Katsuki remembers Middle School too and this “I totally forgave you the second you finished beating me up” just doesn’t make sense to him. Izuku is dropping Unconditional Love in his lap and he’s like “What is this? Who does that?”

Because I also like to headcanon that Katsuki is in constant denial that he likes Izuku. Because if he admits that, he has to admit to all the things he admires about Izuku that makes him special which leads to Katsuki admitting that Izuku is heroic in nature and kind and all the things he wants to be, which leads him down the jealousy/angry/frustrated route of insecurity so he just covers it up with “I hate him” - when it reality it’s a “I hate that I don’t hate him” if that makes any sense.

(Long story short, I like Katsuki as an emotional mess that doesn’t know what he wants or how to deal with himself which often leads to him making bad choices, whether it’s punching Izuku in the face or just flat out avoiding him.)

However, I can’t really think of anything I’ve written so far that makes Katsuki seem ignorant or stupid? Which makes me wonder what I missed.

I’ve tried very hard to keep most of his bad decisions be due to being overemotional and not thinking things through clearly. I wouldn’t call someone stupid or dumb for making rash decisions while they’re angry or upset. Heh.

OH. Or like. The latest chapter in Villainy. I’ve gotten a lot of comments that read along the lines of “Why was Katsuki so stupid to walk into a trap?” which confused me because I actually put in the effort this time around to set all that up.

(Spoilers for Villainy now if you haven’t read it. Also it’s a little long on the “This is why I did stuff” front…)

I’ve been planning Toga’s attack on Katsuki since Chapter 3. In chapter eight I made sure to add in a line that he’s got Mrs. Midoriya’s phone number in case she needs anything while his parents are out of Town. Katsuki was prepared to get a phone call or text from her asking for his help.

Toga saw that text exchange which is why she made her plan to Text Katsuki pretending to be Deku’s mom.

Why would Katsuki question that she needs a bookshelf put together? She’s a small, single woman and probably doesn’t have anyone else to call. Katsuki has no reason to think twice about it.

As for why he didn’t react to seeing “Izuku” there, one of the reasons Katsuki’s dreams have been such a big deal is because I wanted to highlight his mental state after Path to Villainy - he’s not in a good way. He is still seriously anxious and disturbed after watching Izuku try to kill Kirishima. Kirishima almost died. And he’s upset because he liked Izuku the entire time.

“Villainy” Katsuki has had a crush on Izuku since they were little and he feels guilty about it because of his behavior. He got a kick out of roughing Izuku up and he feels bad about it. He doesn’t think Izuku would want anything to do with him and then he finds out it’s the opposite so then he’s just guilty and confused and “I still like the guy who tried to murder my best friend” messed up.

Second, his dreams having been getting worse. Those dreams where I fooled the readers into thinking it was real? Did that on purpose. Because Katsuki’s having a hard time realizing when he’s in a dream at first, too. That’s why he’s been having intrusive Dream thoughts, too. Just to help blur that line a little.

I also made sure that only Dream!Izuku calls Katsuki “Katsuki” so that when Toga did it, he’d question whether he was awake or not.

Toga calling Katsuki “Stupid” was a callback to when she said “He’s not too bright is he?” at the theme park, and because she isn’t aware of Katsuki’s own internal issues or about all his “Make out with Deku” nightmares, she just thinks it’s dumb he’d make out with a guy who’s been trying to kidnap him.

Anyway, long story short, I don’t see anything Katsuki did in that situation as “Dumb” aside from maybe going by himself. Which is less “stupid” and more exactly the reason he gave in the text itself with a “I need some time alone doing something mindless like putting together a shelf” to get his thoughts together.

I hope that wasn’t too long. But I really can’t think of any other moments where he’s been particularly unintelligent?

I mean, there were a few moments were I exaggerated his social awkwardness for laughs (Like in One Exception, I’m pretty sure Canon!Katsuki would pick up that Kirishima was trying to play nice and be friends–like he did in Path to Villainy–but that story was so dark, I needed a little humor to balance it out), or had him act rashly from time to time for drama’s sake.

I guess overall I just sort of feel like Izuku and Katsuki are weak points for each other, so when they get involved they tend to act more recklessly and emotionally than they would in other situations, which I guess may come across as unintelligent as they make Bad Life Choices? XD

Anyway, I’m not sure if that answered your question or not but I’ve rambled enough. Ha ha.
