no but, like, Prototype is SO interesting when you think a little harder about him and I just want you to see my vision for a sec because im feeling normal. hiding this under a cut though.
I think the main line i wanna say is that yes we can easily see why Silver or The World Machine see themselves as flawed machines but I don't think that notion is too out of reach for him yknow? Like. He was built to "greet the messiah of the old world", which ended up not happening as it was supposed to. Worst part of it is that considering the lore Cedric provides, Proto was the one to figure out this quest for a savior was pointless. It's like predicting that his very existence is futile, and then just having to live with that?? Somehow?? Not only this, but the implied cultural shift that this event caused had to be considerable. People left their research, they changed their outlook in life, this action ended up changing the trajectory that people had. Hell, maybe some people took their own lives. I mean, that note in the Barrens had to be inspired by something.
Could you Fucking Imagine realizing that your actions had THIS effect? That you effectively have caused harm by sharing this knowledge, but this was either out of your scope, or it was something you were programmed to do from the start? That this is all out of your choice? What the fuck even. "OP it's not that deep" I know but it could be. Hello. I mean listen. if the Author hadn't known everything was going to end in the next few years, do you think he would've tried to create TWM?
And then, I guess. the simulation is created and as problems arise, the Author's children are tasked with a backup plan that could help them be tamed. There is no guarantee that whoever ends up with the simulation will attempt it, but they need to believe it's possible. And they all wait, and make sacrifices. Prototype not only hides in a corner that's harder to access but we find him without part of his memories, in such a way that he can't even introduce himself properly. The data is close to him, and yet body and mind and identity are kind of divisible. And there's no guarantee that his wait will amount to anything. Maybe he wouldn't even realize that, in that state though, I don't fucking know. Is it better to not know? Either way this sounds like quite the sacrifice to make, and I want that to sink in.
And sure, then the savior does show up, except the circumstances are different. This world is possible to save, this world is simpler, it's also just a simulation, and all of this is stuff he knows and has accepted. He doesn't even fulfill his purpose as he should because there's another robot taking that spot. And what he ends up doing, can be once again summarized as delivering information about things that he NEEDED to share for a greater good, and that causing a negative reaction of a magnitude that accelerates the corruption of the world, and his one chance to actually guide the savior ends up leaving them more confused, upset and doubtful that they can do anything. He tries to predict what could happen next, or at least, states he does and he is always too late. Too late to tell them of the corruption, too late to tell them that the mines will collapse, too late to react to make sure Silver and himself make it out alive. And yeah this event does make Solstice a far riskier route than intended. Did the Author and co. consider this possibility? Likely, did they THINK it would actually go that way? Probably fucking not.
It's fine, in the end. Robots can be repaired, and things did turn out okay, but the cost was still big, and no replacement can really make the consequences disappear. But time goes on, anyways. What else could you expect? What else can you do? Can you say you failed if it was out of your control? If it was never meant to be anyways? What did you make of the chance you did get?
And, in other topics, from where DO you draw your worth? What defines you? Where is "you"?
idk.
#im so sorry for the people who have notifications on for this blog. whoops. tell me to go sleep#do i even wanna maintag this... no....#can u tell it's late at night for me. unspeakably late#i know im preaching to the choir though like i dont think im saying anything unpopular lol#anyways top 3 characters i would go out for drinks if they could drink#so i could ask them WHAT THE FUCK. is up with them#prototype#analysis#proto had one fucking job and uhm. idk well. how well do u think he did it#suicide mention#kiiind of vaguely but just to be safe

series masterlist. main masterlist.
It was humiliating, how nervous he was. Reaping day. The Plinth prize was just a whisper away—he could nearly taste it: phantom traces of rich chocolate and edible gold on his dry tongue.
The day before the exams, you’d pulled him into the library for one last study session. You whispered that you would botch one of your papers for him—he certainly needed the Plinth prize more than you. And though he knew that you’d be far more deserving of it (your grades were near impeccable, and impossible for him to try and compete with), he also knew that his pride wouldn’t ever recover from such a blow.
Because how could he face you after that? Knowing that he was… inferior?
And so he told you not to squander your own achievements for him—that he’d figure something out. You spared him a hesitant look, before turning back to your books.
Now that the exams were over and done with, Coriolanus briefly wondered if you went ahead and botched it anyway. An irrational sort of anger flared within his chest. Did you think you were better than him? That he was your charity case?
But all those terrible thoughts—the nastiness sweltering in his chest for days after the exams—dissolved almost immediately after seeing you.
You met him in front of the academy, your dress a lovely shade of crimson, angular at your shoulders but tapering down into flowing ripples below your waist. Like fire, almost. You were glowing, he was sure of it, with the way the sun illuminated only the best of your features—the slope of your nose, the curling of your lips, the glimmer in your eyes.
“Coriolanus,” you greeted with faux formality, tilting your head to the side. He was wearing his dress shirt again—the very one you watched Tigris mend and sew and tinker many, many times. Pinned to his waistcoat was another red rose, matching the shade of your own attire.
He mirrored you, sweeping into a low bow and brandishing another rose out of seemingly nowhere. “For you, darling. Grandma’am said she could spare it—special occasion and all.”
“Oh, don’t call me that,” you said, rolling your eyes at the ridiculous pet name. It was what your parents called each other when they thought nobody was around to hear it—it made you feel old. “And tell Grandma’am thank you. It’s beautiful.”
He smiled, stepping forward to slot the rose behind your ear. “Ready for your Plinth prize?” he asked, fingers lingering by your face, thumb stroking down your jaw.
You sucked in a breath. “I don’t think it’s going to be what either of us expect.”
There was a brief pause. Coriolanus’ eyes narrowed. Had you botched your exams for him?
With a pointed glance to the academy halls, you nudged him forward. “Come on. Everyone’s already inside. Clemmie keeps asking for you.”
The two of you made your way in, weaving between red-uniformed academy students (the ones who weren’t at the very top) and professors. Behind another set of double doors were where all the top-ranking students were mingling. Sipping on bubbling glasses of colorful drinks, picking off delicate foods from ceramic plates.
While Snow was stolen away from you by a few other classmate acquaintances, Sejanus was the first to greet you, shaking your hand enthusiastically. His palms were sweating. You didn’t quite mind. “Congratulations on finishing exams, Y/N. I know how hard you’ve been studying.”
You flashed him a genuine smile. “Congrats to you, too. I’m surprised you’re here at all, actually. I know how you feel about the reaping.”
His expression faltered. “Ma made me come. Moral support for my friends, and all.”
Ma. The word sounded foreign and heavy on the tongue. Unfamiliar… but rather inviting. Homely, in a way. Despite your initial silence, you managed to recover just fine. In a lowered voice, you whispered to him, “Well, my mother thinks it’s a rather dreadful affair. A waste of potential talent, sending children to their deaths, she says. I can’t help but agree with her. Father thinks it’s necessary, though.”
Sejanus pursed his lips. No doubt questioning the necessity of watching the people he knew from his childhood in the district getting brutally murdered. It looked like he was going to say something else, but before he could, Arachne’s high-pitched voice cut through the two of you. You grimaced, catching Coriolanus’ eyes as he stood right behind her. Judging by his mildly annoyed countenance, he wasn’t having a very good time chatting to her, either.
“Spill it, Sejanus,” she demanded in a prissy tone. “Who won the prize?”
The dark curls on Sejanus’ head shook as he silently scoffed. “Oh, no, I’m not going to ruin my father’s big day. No one here actually likes him but they do love his money… you know what that’s like, don’t you, Arachne?”
Her nose wrinkled in part-contempt, part-disgust. “Funny,” she deadpanned.
Coriolanus stepped around her so he could curl an arm over your waist. “We all know who’s going to win it, anyway.” His grip squeezed over the smooth fabric of your dress.
Arachne rolled her eyes and marched away, off to find someone else to bother.
Left with just the two of you, Sejanus dipped his head and muttered, “Look, I know you guys have had high hopes for this but… there’s no prize. Not anymore.”
There was a terse pause. Your head reared back incredulously, searching Sejanus’ expression for any signs of fibbing. Then you looked to Coriolanus, eyes wide.
“What?” he asked, words sharp, looking almost offended.
“I’m so sorry—”
Before Sejanus could finish his sentence, loud trumpets echoed throughout the hall and all the students began making their way to the plush velvet seats laid out in front of the podium. Coriolanus’ hand slipped away from you, balling into a tight, pale fist. You sat down first, Sejanus going on your right, Coriolanus to your left. Clemensia was on his other side, flashing you an attractive smile. You couldn’t find it in you to smile back.
If there was no prize, what were they going to dole out instead? A free holiday, all expenses paid? A new television? A pair of fuzzy socks?
Your rather prickly thoughts were interrupted when a woman stepped up behind the podium. She was dressed in lavish plum robes, intricate beige patterns weaving through the threads. From afar, it looked like there was flesh stitched onto the fabric. Her hair was greyed and a calculated sort of haphazard. One of her eyes was beady and blue, the other dark and large, almost eclipsing any of the white bits.
She tapped the microphone once, earning herself a buzz of feedback, and tittered with unnerving laughter. Volumnia Gaul was what she introduced herself as. Her voice was low and gravelly. When she went on to say that she was the head gamemaker, your and Coriolanus' heads both snapped to Sejanus, but his gaze was fixed onto the ground, face grim.
After a bit more faddering about the future, Dr. Gaul introduced the creator of the games and dean of the academy—Casca Highbottom. He sauntered forward from somewhere within the seats, mind very clearly addled with a drug of some sorts. Morphling, you’d wager.
“I can’t believe they still allow him to speak in public,” Clemensia said to Coriolanus amusedly. He didn’t spare her a response.
He dragged on his little speech, as if he took pleasure in dangling the golden carrot in front of the donkey. Your hands twitched in an antsy fashion, and you neatly folded them over your lap.
“My own twenty-four top prospects. All waiting to hear the results of your hard studying in this prestigious institution, eager to know who’s won that Plinth prize, no doubt. And a golden future, with it.” He catered forward with a slurred laugh. “However… I’m here to tell you all that there’s been a change this year.”
Murmurs rippled throughout the crowd. Coriolanus’ chin lifted higher, back straightening.
“One last assignment to prove your worth,” Highbottom continued on. He began to pace back and forth, reminiscent to that of a caged tiger. “The esteemed citizens of the Capitol simply aren’t watching anymore. And if the games are to continue at all, there must be an audience, no?”
More murmuring. Your eyes narrowed. Twenty-four top students… twenty-four tributes…
Oh, no.
You sucked in a quiet, barely noticeable inhale with the realization. It was enough for Coriolanus’ eyes to land on you, but you were staring at Sejanus, as if trying to get him to hear your thoughts.
Tell me it isn’t true. Tell me we won’t have to play a hand in such a barbaric game.
“Head gamemaker Dr. Gaul has stepped in to… incentivize patriotic values with her own unique flair, starting with you. The Plinth prize will no longer be determined by who has the best grades.”
For a moment, Highbottom’s gaze drifted over to you. Somewhere behind you, you could hear Arachne’s affronted, “Excuse me?”
You weren’t quite sure why she was upset. It’s not like she had a chance with the prize if it were grade-based.
“Instead, it will be decided by who is the best mentor in the hunger games.”
Your jaw clenched. Clemensia appeared bewildered. Coriolanus looked shaken. Sejanus was visibly distraught.
“As the reaping begins, I will allocate each one of the top twenty-four Capitol students a district tribute. A figure behind the scenes—one who must persuade them to perform for the cameras.”
This was met by a barrage of questions and protests from the students. Highbottom waved most of them away.
“Your role is to turn these children into spectacles. Not survivors… victory in the games is only one of the considerations. Your entire future rests on this last project.”
It was a terrible thing to imagine. Two dozen district lives in exchange for a bit of cruel entertainment for the Capitol. You were never fond of it, but you kept quiet on the matter because you had the luxury of turning your head away. Turning the television off and straying away from such brutalities.
But now that you were being forced to look—no, more than that—you were being forced to pull strings, it was altogether a nauseating thought.
“Oh, and I must warn you… anyone caught cheating to give their tributes an unfair advantage…” Highbottom’s spectacled eyes swept over the lot of students. “Well, they’d just have no future at all.”
More trumpets rang throughout the hall.
The Dean clapped his hands together. “Here we go! Let the reaping ceremony begin!”
Two large screens hanging over the podium lit up for the first district—a tall boy on the left, a sallow-faced girl on the right. Dean Highbottom began to list off student names as mentors.
To none of your surprise, Sejanus got the male tribute from district two. Coriolanus shot him a thinly-veiled, wry smile over your shoulder. “You got the pick of the litter.”
Sejanus refused to meet his gaze. “You forget… I’m part of the litter.”
On the names rattled—districts three, four, five, six, and seven all passing by in a blur.
Juno Phipps was called out for district eight’s male tribute. She sat somewhere behind you, and you could hear her puff a sigh of disappointment.
Then your name came straight after.
Your head snapped from Highbottom to the screen, eyes widening.
Wovey, her name was. She was a small little thing—you could see her frail, skeletal figure even through a grainy screen from afar. The striped dress she wore was patchy and frayed, darkened with soot and dirt. How old was she? She was probably one of the youngest tributes yet—you’d guess that she was barely thirteen, maybe even twelve. Something in your stomach jolted. Momentarily, you’d forgotten that this little girl was meant to be your school project.
District eight. The textiles sector. You blinked at the screen and shifted uncomfortably in your expensive-tailored dress—a dress that very likely came from the very same district.
Highbottom called out names for the next district. Clemensia was pleased with her large, burly tribute from the eleventh district. Coriolanus was yet to be mentioned. You glanced over at him, before reaching out to take his hand. He didn’t look at you, but squeezed your palm in what you read to be silent gratitude.
And finally—with only one tribute left, Highbottom coughed out what sounded to be a laugh. “The runt girl from district twelve… she belongs to Coriolanus Snow.”
The grip he had on your hand tightened until it was bordering on painful. You said nothing about it. Highbottom had always been a grouchy man, but he seemed to have a fixation on making Coriolanus’ life as tormentable as possible.
Lucy Gray Baird.
You watched the screen in fascination when a woman sauntered out from the ranks. Her hair was dark and curly, unruly in a way that suited her perfectly. Upon further scrutiny, you noticed small wildflowers woven through the strands, limp with time. She wore makeup, which wasn’t something you often saw in tributes. A deep blue eyeshadow and slightly-smudged rouge on her cheeks and lips. But what really caught your attention, however, was the dress she was wearing. It was a startling contrast to her name—with its bright, colorful ruffles on her skirt, the front of her corset bearing lovely details of flowers and vines.
She was beautiful.
“What is that dress?” sneered Arachne, in an obvious attempt to rile Coriolanus up. “Is she some sort of clown?”
But suddenly, Lucy Gray stepped out of her path towards the stage and grabbed a girl to her right. Or, more accurately, the girl’s collar. She promptly dropped something down her dress and hurried off. Screams erupted from the screen as the girl writhed with terror, screaming for someone to, “Get it out! Get it out!”
Coriolanus stood abruptly, letting your hand go. You hadn’t noticed just how much feeling you’d lost in your arm, and gingerly shook it back to life.
The grainy screen showed a small snake skitter out of the bottom of her dress.
When Lucy Gray finally made it up on the stage, she was harshly struck across the face by district twelve’s mayor. The blow made her head crack to the side and she went tumbling down. You frowned, but couldn’t take your eyes away.
It took two peacekeepers to haul the furious mayor away. You mutely realized that the girl was the mayor’s daughter.
Lucy Gray laid there, face aching.
And then—singing. A small voice from within the crowd. Five seconds later, another joined. And another, and another. Even through the screen, when Lucy Gray tilted her bruised face up and struggled back onto her feet, you could see the pain in her eyes. Was that her family singing for her?
The woman made her way to the microphone. She began to sing with a quivering lip. Her voice was soft and smooth, silken to your ears.
“She’s singing?” Arachne commented in a pinched tone. “Is she out of her mind?”
“Shut up, Arachne,” you turned to snap at her. She made a strangled noise in the back of her throat, but didn’t say anything else, to your relief.
Coriolanus watched the screen with unsettled eyes. A million thoughts rushed through his mind at once. Most unpleasant, many rageful, some curious.
And to bring her singing to a sudden halt, Lucy Gray screamed into the microphone.
“YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!”
The students burst into laughter, incredulous gasps, and scandalized murmurs. Coriolanus glanced around. He met your eyes, and you gave him half an amused smile. His tribute knew how to put on a show, that was for sure.
He smiled back, and turned to the screen once more.
Lucy Gray lowered herself into a deep bow for the audience. District and Capitol alike.
What an intriguing girl, you thought.
“She’s mentally ill,” Arachne buzzed.
It took every bit of your willpower not to turn around and strike her across the face. But you thought back to the furious mayor, and of the little girl you were supposed to mentor, and kept your hands folded neatly over your lap.
You found yourself at the Snow penthouse that night. There was nothing to study, not anymore, so you lounged on a rickety chair and watched Tigris sew together pieces of blue fabric. She wanted to make you a dress, and though you had more than enough of your own, you couldn’t ever say no to her. Being around her took your mind off of the games, even for just a few minutes.
Coriolanus, however, was pacing back and forth in front of the two of you. Muttering angrily under his breath, nose twitching with disdain.
“He’s sabotaging us. That girl’s never going to win the games,” he hissed, plucking the rose off of his waistcoat and tugging at its petals. They fluttered down to the floor. “You saw her, didn’t you? She’s underfed. Unstable.”
Pot, meet kettle.
You pursed your lips. “Highbottom said you’re meant to make a performance out of them. It isn’t just about winning.”
“Everything is about winning!” he asserted, carding a frustrated hand through his flaxen tresses. “If not the games, then the crowd. And Lucy Gray won’t survive a minute inside that arena.”
You sighed. Little Wovey didn’t seem too likely to survive, either. She wasn’t a fighter by any means. Maybe she was a fast runner?
“So that means we have to make every second before then count.” Coriolanus reached out to cup your face, and you leaned into his touch, kissing his palm. Tigris shot the two of you a side glance and smiled to herself.
“What’re you planning?” you asked.
“I’ll make her sing again,” he said, sounding so sure of himself.
This made Tigris’ brows cinch together. “I wouldn’t sing a note for you if I was her. I wouldn’t do anything at all… not unless I knew I could trust you.”
Coriolanus regarded his cousin with a cynical stare. “She’s district, Tigris. She knows we hate her and she wants us dead. How am I supposed to get her to trust me?”
“We?” you echoed, shaking your head. “I don’t hate her. I don’t even know her. Do you?”
“I—”
You lifted up a hand, effectively cutting him off. “Do you know her, Coriolanus?”
His jaw set with a click. You had your answer.
“How can you hate someone you don’t know? Look, you don’t have to like her. Just convince her that you do.” You crossed your arms, thinking of the little girl you were meant to mentor. It was going to be hard to like her, anyway, knowing that she was going to die soon. You wouldn’t let yourself get attached.
Tigris nodded emphatically. She paused her needlework and looked up at her cousin. “Imagine it was your name they pulled, and you were ripped from your home. I’d just want to know if somebody still cared about me out here. Don’t discount her just because she’s district, Coryo. You might have more in common with her than you think.”
Coriolanus plucked the last rose petal from the stem. You watched him with soft eyes, before drawing yourself up to your feet.
“I think it’s time I head home. My family’s got dinner with the Flickermans tomorrow.” You placed a limp hand on his jaw and kissed his cheek, then drifted down to kiss his shoulder. He smelled distinctly of roses—a fresh sort of musk.
Just as you were about to pull away, he rested his hands on your forearms, rooting you to the same spot. “We should greet them at the station. Show them that they can trust us.”
You searched his face for genuinity. It wasn’t an entirely terrible idea.
“You sure?” you asked. It wasn’t a secret just how uncomfortable Coriolanus was around district folk.
“Yeah. We can… get ahead of the other students. You’re way more approachable than me, anyway. Maybe they’ll like you more,” Snow offered. A part of you wondered what he’d do if you said no.
The thought of meeting your assigned tribute made your stomach do somersaults. Finally, you nodded. “Okay. I’ll meet you at the station, then?”
Snow smiled in a charming manner. He dipped forward to slant his lips over yours, and you melted into his touch, almost forgetting that Tigris was there—until she made a noise of disgust and told the two of you, “Eugh! Do that somewhere else, please!”
Coriolanus was there before you, sticking out like a sore thumb in his academy red against the cold, rusted metals of the train cars. You wore a dark coat over your uniform, trying to look a little more discreet.
“Are they here yet?” you asked, steps quickening to him. He took your hand and squeezed.
“Anytime now.”
The two of you stood shoulder-to-shoulder as you waited, exchanging light conversation. There was a rose in his hand, you realized. White, just like the one he gave to you when he first met your parents. But it wasn’t for you, since he had yet to hand it over— you figured it was for Lucy Gray. You would’ve thought it was sweet of him, if only you hadn’t been aware of his motivations to gain her trust. Still, you’d be a hypocrite if you criticized him for it. You’d also brought something for your tribute.
A juice box. Grape. Still cold, beading with condensation.
You wondered if they had juice boxes out in district eight.
Another train rolled to a grueling halt to the track on your left. The cars were due for a good scrubbing, you thought. They were absurdly filthy—you weren’t even sure what its original color was meant to be.
Peacekeepers stepped up, disregarding the two of you, and began yanking the doors open. There were disgruntled noises coming from inside, and a few minutes later, the grey soldiers were pulling out the tributes.
You searched through the small crowd frantically. The boy from 11th—Reaper, you recalled his name was—caught your eye and just about snarled. You tried your best to ignore him.
When you found the little girl, little Wovey, you slipped away from Coriolanus and stepped forward. In your peripheral vision, you spotted him moving towards Lucy Gray.
Wovey was staring at a particularly uninteresting spot on the ground. She had her skinny arms wound around her midriff as if she was cold, despite the warm temperature that morning. When your shadow fell over her, her large, tearful eyes slid up to meet yours.
“Hello, Wovey,” you whispered in what you hoped was a welcoming, not-at-all-intimidating voice. You told her your name, making sure to enunciate the syllables slowly, so she’d have no problem repeating it back. She didn’t, but perhaps she would later. “I’m your mentor.”
“Mender?” Her voice quaked.
“Mentor. I’ll be helping you in the arena, during the game. Here, I have something for you.” You reached inside your coat, eyeing the peacekeepers warily. Either they didn’t notice, or they were just pretending not to. You wondered how many of them knew your father. “Do you guys have juice boxes back where you live?”
You held out the cold little box for her to take. She blinked at it warily.
“It’s grape,” you said.
She reached out and took it from you. You offered her a gentle smile, and she mirrored you with a shy grin.
“Can I share it?” she croaked. Wovey looked back at the male tribute from the same district—Bobbin. Were they friends?
“Of course, sweetheart,” you said warmly.
Sweetheart? Where’d that come from?
The peacekeepers began rounding up the tributes, shoving them in the direction of a truck. You dipped your head at one of the grey soldiers as he took Wovey’s arm.
“Be gentle with her,” you told the peacekeeper. He met you with a stoic expression, but nodded once, before urging Wovey onward.
It was hard to tear your eyes away from her, but you forced yourself to do so, bounding towards Coriolanus and—
“Lucy Gray,” you greeted, just before saying your own name as you moved to stand beside Snow. Her dress looked even brighter in person, even if it was caked in filth. “I hope Coriolanus hasn’t scared you off yet.”
“Who’s this?” she asked, her dark eyes flitting from Snow to you. “Another mentor?”
“Mmh. Not yours though. I’m dedicated to the little girl from district eight,” you replied.
There was something in her eyes that softened.
“You’ll take care of her?” she asked.
You exchanged an uncertain glance with Coriolanus. “I’ll try my best to. Just like my boyfriend here for you.”
“Boyfriend, huh? Y’all make an attractive couple, that’s for sure.” Lucy Gray smiled, wide and genuine. It faded instantaneously once she spotted a peacekeeper approaching. She plucked the rose from Coriolanus’ unsuspecting hands. “Well… good luck with that.”
The soldier grabbed her by the arm and shoved her into the direction of the car.
Coriolanus stepped forward. “Wait, no—I, hey, I’d like to escort my tribute—”
They all ignored him. You pursed your lips, before following behind two of the soldiers, peeking around the bend. The truck’s doors were wide open for you to slip into. Snow met your eyes when you beckoned him over.
“We can sneak in,” you whispered. “When they’re not looking.”
“Are you insane? We don’t know where they’re going!” he responded in a lowered voice, taking your arm, not unsimilar to how the peacekeepers grabbed the tributes. “I don’t want you getting hurt because of me.”
“They won’t hurt me,” you told him. It didn’t dawn on you that Coriolanus was referring to the district tributes, not the peacekeepers. Quick and chaste, you pressed a kiss to his lips. “You coming?”
A muscle ticked in his jaw. He blew out a frustrated breath, before letting you go and giving you the green light by motioning for you to get a move on. Nerves peaking with adrenaline, you glanced around again, satisfied that no peacekeepers were looking, and rushed into the truck. You felt Coriolanus’ chest brush against your back as he hurried in after you.
You hid in the shadows of the trucks’ slants just as the peacekeepers slammed it shut. A victorious smile stretched your lips thin. You made it.
Oh, your father was going to murder you. Snow first, maybe, and then you. Your mother would probably find the situation all too funny. Though, as you found all the tributes’ eyes locked on you and Coriolanus, you realized that it probably wasn’t funny at all, not in the slightest.
“Hello,” you said in an awfully wavering voice. Coriolanus echoed your sentiment, looking as if he’d seen a ghost.
“What’s the matter, pretty boy?” Reaper asked him with a scowl. “You in the wrong cage?”
“No,” he responded with a minute shrug. “This cage is delightful.”
The truck practically swayed as Reaper stormed closer to him. You instinctively grabbed his forearm, pulling him back. But clearly not quick enough, seeing as Reaper grabbed the lapels of Snow’s academy uniform, shoving him up against the wall with a loud thud. Coriolanus let out an oomf with the impact, blinking sudden white stars out of his vision.
“I’ll kill you right now!” Reaper hissed.
“He’ll do it, too,” warned Dill. The girl from his same district. “Reaper killed a peacekeeper back in eleven.”
“I say we kill them both!” another tribute from somewhere behind sneered.
“I’m in. Nothing left to lose now.”
You stood frozen, afraid that one wrong move would send Reaper into a frenzy. Instead, you spoke calm and clear, “We’re here to help.” Your eyes found Lucy Gray’s, then traveled over to Wovey, squeezed in the corner. “We want to help you.”
Crossing her arms, Lucy Gray said, “Y’all got family back home? They’ll kill them if you hurt a hair on their pretty Capitol heads. Then you. ‘Sides… the blonde one’s my mentor. I might need him.”
One of the tributes from district four curled her lip in contempt. “How come you get one?”
“You all get one!” Snow told her, which earned him another enraged shove by Reaper.
She guffawed—Coral, yes, that was her name—with incredulity. “What, and we’re just supposed to believe you?”
“Why else would we get in here with you?” you said, exasperated. “We don’t even know where they’re taking you guys.”
Coral cocked a brow so high it nearly disappeared behind her choppy bangs. “Whose mentor are you?”
You limply waved your fingers at Wovey. “District eight’s girl.”
“So how come Skinny and Rainbow get special treatment? Why aren’t my mentors here?” Coral leaned down towards Lucy Gray in a taunting fashion, barely glancing over at Wovey.
Lucy Gray smiled, all toothy. “They just got inspired, I guess.”
A moment later, a loud rumbling came from outside the truck. Had they already arrived? There was a whir, and the whole truck began to tilt downward. The doors swung open and shocked gasps echoed throughout the metal cavern.
Reaper relinquished his grip on Snow to grab hold of Dill, and you launched yourself at Coriolanus, trying your best to grapple onto the grooves in the walls so you wouldn’t slip. Lucy Gray yelled as her foot slipped and she went toppling down—
You grabbed her hand, grunting with the combined weight of two people. Coriolanus’ grip on the wall slipped, and he bumped into you, causing your fingers to fumble.
The three of you went rolling down, out of the truck, back into the blinding sunlight. Your shoulder hit the ground hard, another sharp rock digging painfully into your back. That’d definitely bruise later. Disoriented, you dragged yourself up from the ground, frowning at the stinging sensation in your legs. Coriolanus was next to you the next second, grabbing at your face and arms, asking if you were alright. You nodded a few times, before pushing him away to see if the tributes were okay.
All of them were dizzy and aching, but other than that—seemed just fine. Or, as fine as they could be, given the circumstances.
Only then did you look around your surroundings. Metal fencing, dirt pen, discarded tires—Capitol citizens watching with wide, curious eyes. You caught sight of the Capitol Zoo’s insignia on an ice cream stand just past the fencing.
“Ugh,” Coriolanus muttered, pale blonde hair properly tousled over his forehead. “What are all these people doing, staring at us? Don’t they have anything better to do? Don’t they have jobs? The children should be in school. It’s no wonder this country is in shambles.”
“The kids are on summer break, Coryo,” you deadpanned, shirking off your dark coat to give it a good dusting.
Then, a familiar voice made your head snap towards the crowd.
Cameras. Mustache. Coin flip.
“We’ll just give them a chance to stand up and catch their breath—I do have to admit I’m jealous of that big entrance! I’m Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman, a man who needs no introduction.”
Oh, he certainly didn’t. He and your mother were tight-knit buddies when they went to school together, making the Flickermans good family friends. This was beyond embarrassing.
“Guess where I am today, folks! That’s right, the Capitol Zoo, where this year’s tributes will be held here, on display behind these bars for your viewing pleasure! That’s right, all twenty-four of them—” That was when he turned to point, and his eyes landed on you and Coriolanus. His words faltered. “What in Panem—is that academy rouge I see?”
You stiffly waved at the camera. Absent-mindedly, you passed a hand over your head to fix your hair.
“Hey, Mr. Flickerman,” you called out with a grimace.
Lucky’s eyes bugged out of his head. He exclaimed your name in part-confusion, part-shock. “Hey, what’re you doing in there, kiddo? Who’s that dashing young man with you? We’re live!” He jutted a thumb back at the camera, its lens facing straight at you.
You spared him a stiff smile, eye twitching. Oh, your father was going to pop a blood vessel, you were sure.
“Uhm… well, uh—” The words caught in your throat and you lowered your voice so only Coriolanus could hear you. You had to ignore Lucky’s constant calls for your attention. “What do we do?”
His blue eyes, even paler in the bright sunlight, roamed over the onlookers. “We do what Highbottom told us to do,” he said, rolling his shoulders. He nudged you in the direction of Wovey, and began setting off for Lucy Gray. “We put on a show.”
You watched as the two, mentor and tribute, made their way to the fencing. As if there was a flip of a switch inside him, Coriolanus began to charm the onlookers and children, showing off his pearly whites, introducing himself and his rambunctious tribute. The children were enamoured with Lucy Gray, it seemed, judging by the way they bubbled over with questions about the snake, her colorful dress, her singing.
Lucky was having the time of his life interviewing them. If not for the current situation at hand—that being you trapped in a zoo enclosure—you would’ve laughed at his earnest excitement. Being a weatherman, a reporter, and an amateur-magician was apparently growing far too monotonous for someone with as large a personality as Lucretius Flickerman.
After much deliberation and cheek-biting, you turned and made your way toward Wovey, who was sitting down next to Bobbin on a tree stump. You noted the purple juice box, now crumpled and empty, discarded on the ground between them.
“Hey, guys,” you said, lowering down to one knee to speak to Wovey. “Do you want to go introduce yourself, sweetheart? Win over the Capitol citizens’ hearts?”
The young girl screwed up her face. Whether it was from shyness or distaste, you weren’t quite sure. Perhaps both.
“I’ll be there with you. I promise,” you told her, holding your palm out for her to take.
Tentative, Wovey slipped off of the stump and clutched onto your hand. The two of you approached the barriers, with her nearly hiding behind you, clutching onto your coat.
Lucy Gray told the growing audience about her Covey family, a group of traveling musicians, and how she wasn’t actually from district twelve. Snow watched her with a somewhat proud, victorious expression.
Lucky noticed you approaching, beckoning for the cameras to follow him as he made his way over to you.
Quickly, he covered the top of the mic to lean forward and whisper, “Is the academy aware of what you’re doing?”
“No. Nobody told us not to, though.”
Lucky regarded you knowingly. “And does your father know about this little escapade of yours?”
“No,” you replied, frown-smiling.
“Ooh. Good luck with that.” He spared you an amused wince. Then, he uncovered the microphone and gave the cameras another brilliant smile, introducing you with a flourish of his hands. “I’m here with a close personal friend of mine, Y/N L/N. And here we have their tribute, yes? Who might you be, young lady?”
You tried your best to encourage Wovey out of her shyness, going so far as to pat her shoulder and to gently push back the thin strands of hair falling in front of her face. She croaked out her name and her district, and Lucky asked her another myriad of overwhelming questions.
Whilst the crowd around the ever-charming Lucy Gray was watching her with curiosity and awe, the audience you were gathering looked upon Wovey with pity and something mildly akin to empathy.
There were perks to getting the youngest tribute, maybe.
She was telling them about how she liked to climb trees back in district eight. Yes, that’d be useful in the games.
You looked over to see Coriolanus observing you with your tribute. He gave you a nod, perhaps a second too late. The man found himself wondering if he could somehow garner the crowd’s sympathy using Lucy Gray, too. How’d you manage to do that?
Before he could spare another thought on the matter, there was a dim buzzing coming from across the enclosure. A door opened, and four peacekeepers marched in.
“Looks like you’re going to get whisked away, kiddo,” Lucky told you, nodding behind. “Tell your mother I said hello. And make sure to take a nice, long shower before dinner tonight. Don’t want the smell of zoo hovering over my steak.”
You rolled your eyes as Lucky chuckled at his own quips, then looked down at Wovey with a far softer expression.
“I’ll be back. I’ll come back with more for you. Just hold on for me, okay?”
The frail girl nodded. She didn’t seem to want to let go of you, even when the peacekeepers began to semi-forcefully lead you away, out of the enclosure. Coriolanus wasn’t far behind, being manhandled far more aggressively than you were.
The soldiers shoved you out the door and shut it with a heavy click of a lock, before marching off to the sides.
Coriolanus reached out for you, hands resting on your elbows. “How was it?”
“Could’ve gone worse.” You studied his features. There was a faint trace of dirt smudged across his jaw—no doubt acquired somewhere in the truck or when everyone came tumbling out.
The two of you stared at each other for a moment longer, until you shook your head and broke into a smile, accompanied by a breathy laugh.
“Lucky called you a dashing young man.”
“He’s ridiculous,” he scoffed, and tugged you along to start walking. “Do you think either of us have a chance? At winning?”
The smile melted off your expression, and you grew somber once more. “Well… anything can happen in the arena. We just need to be smart about it. Neither of our tributes are fighters.”
Coriolanus stared off into the distance, brows cinched, heavy with thought.
“They’ll need to be,” he said. “Surviving isn’t enough. Not in these games.”
Your lips parted, wondering what in Panem he could mean by that. Did he really expect Lucy Gray to become a killer overnight? Or was he planning for her to do something else? He didn’t seem to notice your perturbed disposition, and kissed the side of your head.
Just as Coriolanus walked you to your doorstep, you gripped his hands, and your tone suddenly became very serious.
“I just wanted to tell you—before Highbottom announced the mentoring change, I was sure one of us would win the Plinth prize. And, well, I was going to give you the money if it came to me because I definitely wouldn’t need it. But now, since there’s a good chance neither of us are getting it…”
Snow’s features twisted with evident dismay.
You squeezed his hands with yours. “I can get my parents to pay your university tuition, if neither of us get that Plinth prize. Please, Coryo, don’t take this as charity. Take it because I care about you. I don’t want you to get caught up in… winning these games. Whatever you’re planning for Lucy Gray… I can’t see it being anything she’d be willing to do.”
It might’ve been a trick of light, but you could’ve sworn you saw an irksome glint flash across his eyes. He bitterly came to the conclusion that you probably did botch one of your exams for him—not that that mattered now. Besides, it was you offering money, not him begging for it. The placating thought made it easier for his features to slip into a reassuring, easy softness.
“I appreciate the offer, I really do,” Snow said, cradling your face as if you were a fragile piece of china. Yet his touch felt bruising all the same. “But you shouldn’t worry. I don’t think Lucy Gray is going to win. Not on her own, at least. So I’m going to help her—and Highbottom is going to regret ever trying to make an enemy of me.”
He dipped forward, brushed a whisper of a kiss along your cheek, and swiped his thumb over your bottom lip.
And then he was gone.

Summary: Lo'ak is everywhere all at once.
A/N: Sooo...a little unsure about how the writing quality of this turned out but I hope you enjoy anyways. oh also I really don't know how or why I made this chapter so long haha
“And that speech…” Talu paused to give a wistful sigh. Words were not necessary to convey how romantic she thought Lo’ak’s courting proposal was. “Sister I can only hope for the same from Neteyam soon.” The sparkling grin she threw your way proved to be anything but envious, cheeks tinting into a happy shade.
Your own returned smile was mediocre at best, fingers still running over the mysterious pieces of your new top. No, of your new courting gift. That would never stop feeling strange, especially knowing it had come from a man that you had written off as a memory so long ago. If Talu sensed your apprehension, she didn’t show it. Nothing could stop her giddy babbling as she went about straightening your shared kelku.
“I admit, I would not have guessed Lo’ak to be the first of the two to profess such feelings but then again this is my sister we are talking about.” Her eyes shined with pure admiration and love. “He would be a true skxawng to not tuck away his childish hesitations in favor of chasing such a gem.”
“Talu-” You go to reprimand her dramatics but it falls on deaf ears.
“And just think, with any luck our matings could coincide and then before you know it our children will be learning to hunt together. We could even create a connected kelku. I’ve seen a few families do it before!”
“Is that not a little much?”
Talu squealed, feet kicking like a small child. It was hard to cut off such ramblings when she was in this state. So truly disconnected from the judgments of others, letting her joy flow from her without reserve.
“It is like becoming sisters all over again. Double sisters even. Or…” She paused thoughtfully. “However you say it.”
“I don’t think there is such a term.” You muttered, tucking away the healing ointments into a basket. That sparkling top still lay across the floor of the marui. It had no place in your home, or at least you didn’t know where it would be. Even heaped across the floor it felt far too grand in this humble abode.
“How have you not tried it on?” Talu gasped, kneeling down to carefully collect the garment as if handling a rare gem. “Go on! It will look dazzling on you, I know it!”
You reared back, fingers twirling nervously away from where she offered it to you.
“I don’t know if I will.”
“Why not?” Talu’s head tilted to the side, tail dashing back and forth in anticipation. “Don’t worry about breaking it. I can help you get it on carefully.”
A small smile curved at her kind invitation but you no longer knew how else to respond to her new enthusiasm. You had no interest in explaining and consequently reliving the events of you and Lo’ak’s history but neither did you want her fantasy of your twinned mating to blow out of proportion.
“What I mean is I don’t know if I will wear it at all. Lo’ak’s courting…well…I don’t think I will accept.”
Her ears dropped immediately, eyes widening as her tail came to a halt. Talu didn’t wait for an explanation.
“I do not understand. Was his presentation not…sufficient?”
You were shaking her head before she even finished. Scrambling back down to your knees to meet her at eye level.
“No, of course it was but…I am not sure whether or not I would like to accept his courting in general. Lo’ak can be very…” You paused, searching for the right words that would get her desperate attention off of you while properly masking the past. “Annoying,” you finished lamely.
“Annoying?!” A laugh of disbelief coated the word. Her tail swooped up slightly and a spark of hope surfaced again. “By Eywa, what are you talking about?”
You knew it was the wrong choice of words the second they left your mouth. Hoping to conceal your heated blush you hastened back into straightening the room.
“What do you mean by that?” She rephrased.
“Well Lo’ak has always been a little headstrong and…loud…and….oh he always called me names and pulled at my tail-”
It was difficult to continue now with Talu’s rampant giggling filling the room.
“All of those reasons are from when you were children. Of course he was not great for the nerves, no boy was at that time, but it has been years.” Amusement danced in her eyes, that level of disappointment already washed away. It’s not as if you could blame her truthfully. Your reasoning was lacking at best.
“Give the male a chance to show he has changed. If his appearance is anything to go off of then we know at least one thing has changed-”
“Talu!” You hissed, chucking a woven blanket at her. Your sister’s laughter did not subside as it made contact and she dramatically rolled to the floor. Despite her suggestive joke you couldn’t help but find her joy contagious and before you knew it both of you were bursting at the seams until your stomachs ached.
“Lo’ak has his work cut out for him. It will take more than pretty words and a few tattoos to win my sister.” She finally spoke once you were starting to catch your breath. There was no mistaking the pride in her tone. “As it should be.” She reassured you, placing a hand atop her head before exiting the kelku.
Neteyam’s proposal came mere days later. You wondered if part of the rush was due to being upstaged by his brother but that theory was set to the side when you witnessed Lo’ak’s helping hand in the festivities. He had been the one to set off the glowing plants at the end of Neteyam’s speech, painting eclipse in a vibrant glow that washed over the smiling couple. And when Talu had given her joyful, yet contained, acceptance, Lo’ak had smiled at you from the bushes.
Gifts came pouring in left and right, your front doorstep littered with fresh kills, baskets, berries, and woven ornaments every other day. Each gift was specifically marked from each brother, obvious that neither wanted the credit for their work to be placed on their sibling. It was almost humorous were it not for the guilt you felt in disposing of your gifts hastily.
Talu had given you a fair share of glares when you had passed off the neat meals to some neighboring families or tied small trinkets into some of the little girl’s hair in the village. No one knew that they were from the youngest Sully son but Talu’s disapproval was enough to make you hesitate at times. And yet, that first beautiful garment remained draped over your table at home without being touched for days.
Despite her common persuading, Talu often brushed off your resistance as your way of playing hard to get. The looks she would exchange with Neteyam when Lo’ak was brought up had your intuition sparking. You wouldn’t put it past your older sister to conspire with the eldest Sully son in the ways of helping Lo’ak woo you.
Those suspicions were borderline confirmed as the gifts switched to very specific items and fruits that caught your fancy. One morning in particular you had woken up to your mouth watering at the smell of peanut butter coming from the entrance. Such a rare delicacy that the Sully’s had introduced you to so many years ago, your senses had become quickly attuned to its pull.
So you ate it.
Tucked away in the corner of the marui where you could shovel it into your mouth without judgment, but you had eaten it all the same. And as the last glob of strange texture stuck to your tongue it was becoming harder and harder to feel guilty for indulging in the pleasure.
So you stopped.
From then on out when the gifts came you sorted them into trinkets that would be shoved away and repurposed to treats you would allow yourself to enjoy. Lo’ak dropped off meals so often that it became almost unnecessary to join communal dinner. Although you would never admit it, you couldn’t resist the slowly cooked meat or even the fish that he had seasoned and prepared in such a unique way you could only associate it with him. All the same, you let yourself have it.
After all, if he wanted to waste his time hunting and foraging for your delight every day that was his prerogative. And what you did with those free offerings was yours.
A bitter part of you couldn’t help but feel satisfied by the constant effort he was putting in. Perhaps this is what he truly deserved after breaking your heart. He could race across the forest every day trying to win your affections without result and maybe that would finally teach him to handle people’s hearts more carefully.
In any case, this obsession would subside sooner or later and he would be chasing after another girl. Until then, it seemed logical to enjoy the splendors while you could.
However it became increasingly more difficult to avoid his presence as the gifts poured in, especially in the company of others. Some days it felt as if Lo’ak was everywhere all at once. Helping a clan member move into their marui, joining the afternoon hunting party, taking notes at his father’s meetings. The list went on and on. It was more than you expected for the youngest son of the Olo’eyktan to have.
And Lo’ak never missed a day. You never woke to an empty threshold and he never stopped averting his attention your way no matter the situation. Even if some days all he could afford was a loving gaze, one that made your stomach turn itself inside out.
Your fingertips had grown wrinkly under the river’s current as you continued to scrubs at the cloth viciously. So many to get through cleaning for the healer’s tent before you could sufficiently rest from today’s labors. Still…you remembered a time where it was worse. So much worse.
It was never too late to count your blessings.
“The orange would look good!”
Your ears perked, recognizing the voice although it had changed over the years. Sweet Tuktirey emerged from the treeline, her older brother in tow. It was difficult to wrap your mind around how much the girl had grown since the Sully’s departure. Where once skipped a tiny optimistic child of sunshine now bloomed a beautiful young woman on the precipice of adulthood. Still only a teenager, Tuk had seen more than most people should in their early years.
It was a relief to find that the trials of war failed to dim her light.
“I don’t need another one.” Lo’ak insisted.
Your scrubbing intensified but your breath held. Perhaps they wouldn’t see you.
“Just a small one right here.” Tuk halted her brother sternly before carefully selecting a stray braid to bring forward. “It would look so pretty!” She giggled and Lo’ak scoffed.
“Pretty? What type of vibe do you think I’m going for?” Hands on his hips and eyes narrowing it was still easy to see the glimmer of teasing there. It only made Tuk laugh harder.
“Whatever it is, it's too late to save you from it now.” The words barely left her lips before a shriek followed and she was racing away from her brother’s chase after her tail. The edges of your lips curved upwards. “Lo’ak!” She screeched, now trying to elbow her way out of his grasp.
They wrestled along the rocky shore until his younger sister was gasping for a truce. Dopey grins matched as the two finally broke away to collect themselves. Your eyes refused to be diligent as you kept forcing them back at your task.
Their laughter died down suspiciously quick and through the gentle breeze you could just barely pick up on whispering. The weight of their attention bore down on you. The scrubbing picked up tenfold. There are still three rags left but maybe-
“Y/N!” Tuk called, practically skipping your direction. There was no hope in hiding now.
You flipped over in mock surprise, a warm grin naturally taking place as you saw her rush your way.
“Hi Tuk.” Infusing friendliness into your tone and body language you tried to keep your eyes pinned on the younger Na’vi and not her shadow that followed behind.
“What are you doing?” She immediately swooped in to kneel beside you.
“Tuk, don’t bother her.” Lo’ak called, gently jogging to catch up. His hair was down today, decorated braids swinging with every step.
“I’m not bothering her!” She shot back with a huff as he came to a halt before them. Lo’ak’s dark eyebrows dropped, giving his sister a doubtful look.
“She is fine.” You gave a firm assurance but purposefully veered your attention back at the sudsy rag. Otherwise you were sure to notice insignificant details like the return of his battle band and the way it gave a further optical illusion of his slim waist.
“Are these from grandmother’s tent?” Tuk gestured to the pile of rags.
“Just giving them a quick wash.”
“All by yourself?” Her surprise at such a thing warmed your heart, even more so as she reached to grab one of the rags.
“Oh no, Tuk. It is alright. I can manage.” Your concerns are quickly shushed as she swats your hand away. “I don’t want to make you late.”
From the look on Lo’ak’s face that is exactly what was going to happen. Whatever engagement they were currently going to was sure to be starting soon.
“Well…” She dropped the rag, pausing for a moment. “I can’t really stay long…”
“Do not worry.” You laughed softly, placing a hand on her arm but there was a flicker of mischief in her smile.
“But Lo’ak can help!” Within one yank to his arm she had her older brother falling to his knees.
“Oh no Tu-”
“He’s great at washing rags! Best in our family, actually.”
The bizarre lie almost had your panic melting into humor. You expected Lo’ak to intervene again but despite the roll of his eyes and reprimanding look shot Tuk’s way, he was already shifting to get comfortable and reach for the next rag.
“No, really.” You caught the rag from his fingertips and alongside it his gaze as well. Pools of gold studied you with a diligence that made your skin burn.
“I can walk myself the rest of the way.” Tuk happily chirped, rising to her feet. Ripping the cloth away you scrambled to gather the rest of the supplies. It didn’t help when two four-fingered hands gently helped you gather the mess silently.
“I appreciate it, Tuk, but I really should head back as well.”
Her shoulders dropped. Within a stride Lo’ak was in your space. Instinct almost had you reeling backwards before you realized it was to simply hand over the rest of the supplies.
“We can walk you.” He offered, voice warm and smooth like falling molasses.
“No thank you.” Two steps backwards and your lungs could finally fill with air not drenched in his essence.
“But you’ll be at the party tonight, right?” Tuk perked over his shoulder, eyes wide and already on her toes for an answer.
“Party?”
“More of a small get together, near the old shack.” Lo’ak corrected.
“Anything but small. There will be food and music and an excuse to dress up.” Her hairless brows wiggled, a glee that was intoxicating.
“I don’t know I-”
“Oh you can wear that new top! I’ve been dying to see it on someone! Lo’ak would barely let me look at it while he was making it, let alone try it on.” Supple lips formed into a pout.
“Okayyy,” He drawled, slinging an arm around her shoulders. Tuk shrunk under the weight, squirming as he began to pull her back. “I think you’ve bugged the poor woman enough.”
She hissed back at him, ducking under his arm to be released. A few comments shot between the two in English but Tuk reluctantly began to inch away.
“We do hope you can make it.” There those eyes were again, studying you for any change. Perhaps he was waiting to see if you would shout, run off, even raise a hand at him. If so, it would be a relief to see him finally catching on to his standing with you. “Call for me if you need help. I will come.”He promised and Tuk quickly ran up to wave goodbye.
Just as you thought the coast was clear, making your way upshore, footsteps came up fast. You turned and startled slightly to find Lo’ak so close again. He held something wrapped in leaves.
Lo’ak held it up with a half grin.
“Lunch, paskalin [honey].” Before you could shoot back your protests he had it tied to your bag strap and was jogging away. You watched his retreat longer that you would have cared to admit. Not your fault. Lo’ak had a way of catching you off guard. That’s all it was, you told yourself. It had nothing to do with the way sunlight danced across his shoulder blades.
Lo’ak made it seem like attending tonight’s party was optional. A stance that Talu clearly did not share as she braided small flowers into your hair. You could try to convince her otherwise, maybe even make up a lie but you knew better than to underestimate Talu’s ability to shackle you into social events. When she had an idea in her head nothing would sway her away.
Yet another reason your theory of her aiding the younger Sully son concerned you. Although you’d hate to believe it, it would surely only take witnessing a few of her conversations with Neteyam to confirm such meddling. And with how often Neteyam swept her away, there was simply too much time for scheming to take place.
“Don’t you think it is a little rude not to wear it?” Talu huffed, holding the sparkling top out to you. The same one a certain Sully had gifted.
“Seems more rude to give him false hope by wearing it.”
“Oh come now, you can’t seriously claim there is no hope for him to cling to.” Talu rolled her eyes, carefully turning each piece of the top so it laid in the right direction. When faced with your deadpanned expression she let out a sight, shoulders dropping. “I’m just saying it would match nicely with the flowers.”
“I’m wearing the purple vines.” You reiterated, eyes narrowing.
“Alright alright,” She carefully laid down the garment and turned to show her surrender. “Have it your way.”
It would be foolish to believe that her acceptance would be anything more than short lived. Bracing yourself for the night ahead you carefully dressed and began crafting a game plan. Anything that would keep Lo’ak off your back and therefore sail you through the party swiftly.
Tuk was right. This ‘small gathering’ was anything but intimate. While it was clear that not all clan members were not invited, it was obvious which demographic they were catering to. Almost every young single warrior, healer, and gatherer had shown up with dazzling garments and the motivation to whisk the night into a frenzy. Frankly it was surprising that Tuk’tirey was allowed at this party at all.
Then again, she came with three taller, older escorts flanking her sides.
You could practically feel Talu’s grin, although she strategically turned to hide it. She had a way with men that seemed to serve her well. Never reveal your cards too early.
It was a success for as far as you could tell because the future Olo’eyktan barely made out simple greetings as his eyes were drawn back to your sister like a moth to flame. It was starting to get uncomfortable. And although you couldn’t be more happy for your sister, it became clear that taking your turns around the gathering would serve you better.
The old shack was something you had never ventured to see. As children with the Sullys you had refused to get anywhere near it. Even now as it was almost entirely swallowed by Eywa’s forest and your friends served drinks from inside, it felt as if hallowed spirits still drifted through its ugly halls. There were too many memories held in that strange kelku. And while none of them were yours, the familiar RDA symbols had it feeling all too personal.
Steering away from the looming structure you found solace in a circle of young females. Most were warriors that you had little interaction with but you had spent enough time Penyau in the healer’s tent to consider her a friend, so her presence was sufficient. You were only half listening as the topic flowed from upcoming gatherings to new gems found in the nears caves. Nothing that you were interested in chiming in on but the circle of females were your armor against Lo’ak. And that’s all that mattered.
At least, that is what you assumed until a finger was tapping you on the shoulder.
A flurry of golden eyes immediately snapped to the space behind you. It was clear who stood there even before you turned around.
“Good evening, sisters. Do I mind if I borrow Y/N for a moment?”
“More than a moment if you’d like.” One female responded with a suggestive smirk and that earned her a series of giggling laughter. It gave Lo’ak more than enough courage to lead you away.
Once out of their ear shot there was no more reason to play nice.
“Dinner.” Lo’ak said simply, gently handing over the leaf of meat.
His gentle expression was met with a scowl.
“I can get my own food, Lo’ak. I am in no need of being fed like a child.” Although, the food was currently being served inside of the shack and you would rather starve than set foot in there. However, that information was none of Lo’ak’s business.
“Of course you do not need it, paskalin.” His deep chuckle was accompanied by a smile that was far too resilient. “But I have committed to courting you and part of that is proving my ability to provide. So as far as I’m concerned I will treat you as if that responsibility has already fallen on my shoulders.”
“Well, it’s not.” Sharp words and a quick shove had your hands empty once more. Although his tail drooped there was an indistinguishable flame of determination present in his countenance. This man was going to be the death of you. “And I’m not hungry.”
“Too full from the peanut butter?” He guessed with a crooked smile. It cracked your composure for a split second. Both of those dark eyebrows raised. They taunted you because one way or another Lo’ak had come to figure out the truth and he knew there was no way to refute it.
Jaw clenched and arms crossed, your eyes flashed back with that same fervent challenge. Even as that handsome face threatened to melt you into a puddle you held your ground. How arrogant could he be to still dare showing his face at you like this after everything? Those white teeth on display as if he had won the prize. Beaded braids pulled up into a neat bun to show off his defined shoulders and chest like a true whore. Wearing that frayed tewng that danced like true seduction in the wind as if he would be getting anything close to lucky tonight.
It was baffling to try and understand where he got such nerve.
“Well if you are so persistent on making yourself useful then maybe you should shift your efforts towards getting me a drink instead.” It wasn’t often that you partook in strong drink. The idea often felt childish and pointless. Tonight however….tonight it sounded like an Eywa-send in getting through these interactions.
Anything that would soar you through this nightmare would be welcomed with open arms.
“Of course, tanhi.” Lo’ak shook his head with a fond grin.
Before he could depart however, you caught his arm. He halted immediately.
“From there.” You pointed towards the furthest corner of the shack. A small gaggle of Na’vi were sprawled out across the floor in giggling fits. It was clear from the look in their eyes that not a single worry could fall upon them. Their drink was strong, no doubt about it.
“You don’t want that.”
“And how do you know?”
Lo’ak set the food down to mimic your stance, arms flexed as they crossed.
“That shit will knock you into next week.”
“And you somehow know that is what I don’t like?” You challenged. “Who's to say I don’t drink it on the regular? Unless you somehow had ways of stalking me all the way from Awa’atlu.”
You expected him to sigh and admit defeat with reluctance. Maybe throw in a few claims to battle your own but Lo’ak was never one to meet your expectations. He took two strides forward. He had no right to invade your space but somehow the idea of stepping back looked like defeat.
“That, paskalin, is from Awa’atlu. I should know because I brought it. And I will tell you honestly that pxir [type of alcohol] is nothing like the sweet drinks we make here. It is mostly drunk by men two times your size.” Lo’ak tucked a curl behind your ear. “It will fuck you up.”
It was not the first time Lo’ak had your teeth grinding to the point of your jaw aching, and you feared it would neither be the last. Even as children he had a way of getting under your skin, tugging at your hair, making teasing comments that had you hissing back at him. That special skill had not been lost, but now…now you knew how to deal with cocky Sully men.
“I don’t remember asking for the lineage, skxawng.” Your nimble fingers drew your thick hair over one shoulder. “But if you don’t want to get it for me, I’m sure I could find another capable suitor that will.”
To his credit, Lo’ak’s mask stayed in place. It was the rising of his shoulders that gave away your success. A deep breath was drawn into his lung and that smile waivered like grinding gears that had grown rusty. It shifted into something resembling more of a sarcastic grin.
“Fine.” He huffed, his show of pearly whites demonstrating anything but joy. “Have it your way, tanhi.”
You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding when he went to retrieve a share of pxir. He couldn’t return soon enough. If you had to endure his intoxicating scent and teasing grin for one more moment without aid, the night would end in violence. Lo’ak kept his own small bowl of drink after handing you one.
He waited, watching you closely. Perhaps he thought you were going to back out. A small voice in your head said that it might have been best but it was too late to retreat now. So with the best mask of confidence you could muster, you held the bowl up in cheers and took a large gulp.
The taste was fowl!
Absolutely horrific as it seethed your throat with fire. How did any of the Metkayina chose such a drink in full consciousness? Lo’ak patted your back as you choked on the few remaining drops that had gone down the wrong tube. The gesture was quickly swatted away. Your own annoyance only rising as you looked down to see that he had already finished his bowl in silence.
“It’s a shock to the system I know…no Y/N don’t-”
Three more gulps and that scorching fire was settled in your stomach and the bowl empty. Your nose tingled like it was about to erupt as your eyes squeezed shut.
“Woah hey, easy there.”
“Another.” Your tone came out like gravel as you handed him the bowl.
“Uh yeah right.” He scoffed, taking it away. The liquid only spiked your courage, pushing you to face the male head on but then…it unfortunately had you sense of gravity shifting as well. Lo’ak quickly wrapped a securing arm around your waist as you stumbled a few steps. Shit, this stuff worked fast. “Here, eat something.”
He brought a piece of yerik meat to your lips and that made you squirm to get away.
“What do you think you’re doing?” You snipped.
“Pxir is worse on an empty stomach, trust me.”
“That easy huh?”
Lo’ak sighed, bringing the food down. “Okay I deserved that but-”
“I don’t want your food, Lo’ak.” There was still enough coordination left to wiggle yourself out of his grasp and stomp to the other side of the gathering. In all fairness, the ground did move side to side with every step but you managed just the same.
Unfortunately, you couldn’t escape him even while dancing. Toruk Makto’s youngest son remained leaned against a tree on the outskirts, eyes pinned on you diligently. It felt as if you could never get a break from his weighted presence. Why was he not enjoying the party like everyone else? Was it really worth skipping out on getting drunk with old friends just to babysit you?
Walking, let alone dancing, was a struggle but you made a crooked path to him as fast as you could, one hand pushing against his chest. Lo’ak barely flinched.
“You’re watching me.” You accused him.
“First experience with Metkayina alcohol requires supervision.”
“And you have to do it from the shadows like a stalker?” Your words were already slurring together but it was hard to tell if that was how it sounded out loud or simply the distortions of your inhibited brain.
“I’d be more than happy to keep a closer eye on you but it seemed like you wanted space.” He shrugged, eyes darting to where you swayed back and forth.
“You’re right. I do.” One pointed finger stabbed at his chest with each word. Eywa, he was so warm.
His mouth opened to treat you to yet again his annoyingly low baritone but then….
“Your sister is calling you.”
Your claim had his brows raising before slowly turning around to look. It seemed that Eywa was on your side tonight after all because Tuktirey was in fact trying to get down one of her beaded chains from a high branch. How it got up there was a mystery to you but one that you had no interest in solving.
A forced breath puffed from his nose before he turned back towards you.
“Just,” His lips pressed into a thin line, ears tucking back. “Stay here. Eat something.” That leaf of meat was tucked into your hand before Lo’ak was stalking towards his younger sister.
As if.
You carelessly flung the leaf away, taking in this new breath of freedom. Eywa only knew where Talu was and conversing with the girls once more no longer seemed appealing but there was still one thing on your mind. The same thing that would erase all other thoughts and help you survive.
Lo’ak had taken his share of the pxir with him so you were forced to find your own means of acquiring some. Going into the old shack was still not on your agenda but surely you could think of some plan before getting there. And just like that an idea hit you.
Quite literally.
The male let out a small grunt as you incidentally knocked into him. Immediately strong arms were steadying you back into place with a half hearted laugh.
“Apologies, sister. Woah hey, you got it?” The male was tall and strong, a wall of muscle with a battle band meaning he must have been a warrior. His features held a flame of familiarity but you couldn’t recall his name. However, looking down at the bowl in his hand you realized he perfectly met your two requirements.
He wasn’t Lo’ak.
He had pxir.
“Irayo [thank you], I’m just a little…knocked off my axis.”
He had a pleasing smile. And his braids were shiny. A few clumsy bats of your lashes and the male was already rising to play the hero. He guided you carefully to a stump where you could sit, saying another quiet apology and offering his services.
“There isn’t anything I can do for you?” At first you figured he was nothing more than a sweet gentleman who somehow got his hands on the strong drink by luck. However, when your eyes locked with his you could see the faintest tremble of a smirk wanting to take place.
Not too well behaved after all.
Just what the doctor ordered.
“Well, I am a little thirsty.” You couldn’t quite remember what a seductive expression would look like and doing that while riding the line of innocence and suggestive was nothing more than a train wreck.
He wasn’t picky though.
Neither was his price high as he brought you bowl after bowl of strong drink. The two of you began to make games out of it. Seeing who could drink the fastest. Seeing who could still stand up straight. These little contests became funnier with every sip, although this mysterious man had size on his side and therefore started to smoke your ass at every game.
You couldn’t remember how you made it back to the dance floor. You weren’t even sure if you were doing anything more than swaying in place but it didn’t really matter when you had him to cling on to. The drinks kept coming even as your head grew heavy and eyes blurry until the scene was just pretty streaks of color. You couldn’t remember the last time you saw him take a sip but he never asked you to stop, making trip after trip for more.
A wave of victory washed over you upon spotting Lo’ak’s scowl from the sidelines. This was the perfect plan indeed. So perfect that you must not have been that drunk after all. You had the Sully boy off of your ass and a handsome male keeping you from falling down as you drank away the worries.
At some point in time you recalled heated voices coming from above. Another taller frame pressing against your opposite side until you are sandwiched. The heat of wandering hands. Your giggles that rang in your ears in such a funny way it had you laughing again.
It was warm. Oh so warm.
And his hair danced in the breeze beneath your fingertips, shells and beads clinking together.
And fragments…the night only existed in fragments.
Ones that trickled off into nothing.
The nightmare had come on fast. Like a strike from the sky then suddenly you were transported back into that heated tent. Blood spilled from seeping pools along the floor to small clumps that might just never come out from under your nails. Tendons and bone and metal balls. Things that were never meant to be together but time after time you were forced to dig out these demon bullets from warm bodies.
You hit the floor with a thud. Footsteps scrambled across the space.
The explosions continued in the background. Like fire in the sky that these demons had somehow figured out how to harness. And as you frantically stitched up a gushing wound you couldn’t help but wonder where it had hit. Who it had hit. Your work was getting messy. Not only from your shaking hands but the squirming of the man beneath you. His cries would never leave you.
Arms wrapped around you but they couldn’t stop your shaking. They couldn’t stop the endless line of battered bodies they came through the tent.
Rumble and crack, sounds that rattled in your chest the same way it shook the ground. You stopped looking at their faces, afraid of who you could see. Had you already stitched up a friend? A child? Your sister…no, she was on your left. She never spoke on these days, covered in blood up to her elbows.
How long had it been?
How much longer did you have to go?
Your fingertips were becoming slippery but you wouldn’t look to see what they were covered in. Not when another person was carried to your feet. Not when…not when those screams sound far too young to be more than a child.
No more.
No more no more no more no more.
Please no more!
“Mawey, tanhi. I’ve got you.”
Another crack. Another vibration. The lump in your throat was sure to be a sob but no one would hear you even if it were to bubble up. It would be drowned in the sea of anguish. Just the way no one would see your shaking hands through the mist of teary eyes. Your throat knotted. You couldn’t get oxygen through just in the same way the chest beneath your hands couldn’t. It heaved and heaved before halting.
His heart had stopped.
Would yours stop too?
It didn’t matter. There was no time to think about your own oxygen. Just keep going. Don’t stop. Never stop.
“Open your eyes, sevin, please. Open your eyes for me.”
And you were a coward for shifting away but how could they ask you to look? How could they expect you to see the carnage that was once your friends and family? How did war have a way of turning passionate souls into nothing more than fractured skin and bone? It was all you could see now.
Just blood.
And bone.
And your crooked stitches from cowardice hands.
“Y/N!”
In a snap you were met with a different view. A canopy of fabrics above, not the same as the healer’s tent. A firm chest pressed against your back and sweet words that resembled nothing of screams.
The explosions were here though. And each rumble of power was followed by a strike of light and that sharp rippling sound.
“Please.” You whispered.
“I know, I know. I’ve got you.” A voice soothed and you could only drown in the wetness along your cheeks. Rocked back and forth side to side but the explosions never stopped.
New sounds accompanied the first and it was only the throb in your throat that revealed it was your own sobs being let loose. Warm skin pressed against your forehead, lips that weren’t outlined in blood.
“It’s over.” The voice promised.
You wanted to tell the truth. To say that it would never be over. It could never be over. Not when the memory infiltrated every space in your mind, corrupting what little light was still there.
You didn’t have enough air to say it, however. Your own cries were what filled the night as the voice whispered soothing promises. Fingers ran through your hair and a heartbeat was beneath your cheek.
Your eyes gave out before the rumbling did.
The gentle sway was relaxing. The sound of rain doing even more to calm you slumber as you snuggled deeper into the soft blanket. Fingers grasping at the material, you breathed in the scent with eased contentment. The essence alone was enough to tempt you into falling right back asleep.
Perhaps you could stay here forever. Snuggled in your bed.
That way you would never have to open your eyes because doing so was sure to spin you off your axis. The pounding in your head could only be blamed on last night’s overindulgence but Talu hadn’t come to wake you up yet, so it was fine.
The branches of your top dug into your side upon turning over and you squirmed to shift it. Much less soft than the usual tops you wore to bed. Did you not change before falling asleep?
Sifting through your memory, however, all you could retrieve was the sound of a calm heart beat and a fresh fragrance that wrapped around you. The same one that filled your lungs from the blanket.
Your eyes snapped open.
This was not your room. You could tell from the first glimpse at the overhead marui structure. And with one more inhale that essence led you to believe you knew exactly whose home you were in. Head aching and body feeling like it has the strength of a rag doll you slowly turned to observe your surroundings. With a cringe you held your breath. One look over had your apprehensions confirmed.
Sprawled out across the kelku floor on the opposite side of the space lay Lo’ak, sound asleep.
He had one arm tucked beneath his head with a small blanket thrown over his lap that barely covered anything. Long legs strewn messily along the woven floor, his soft lips were parted with just a whisper of breath passing. Glossy braids outlined his chiseled features into something softer. Something that had you turning away abruptly.
The action only rewarded you with a spinning room, lifting from all sense of reality as you tried not to hurl your guts on his floor. Taking deep breaths you eventually calmed your head and stomach enough to start thinking through your next course of action.
You hadn’t even attempted to stand up and it had already been a close call, so sneaking away gracefully seemed like an unlikely feat. Still…Lo’ak was asleep. And if his heavy breathing was anything to go by, he was well under.
Rain still trampled the scene outside but the thunder and lightning were gone, at least for now. Your eyes pinched shut, cheeks heating as you tried to to push away the memory of Lo’ak rocking you in his arms.
All the more reason to get out of here without having to interact.
Lo’ak’s groan made you freeze in place, one leg already reaching outside of the hammock. He shifted, propping one leg up before letting out a sigh. You prayed to Eywa he was a heavy sleeper.
It wouldn’t have mattered in the end, however, because when both feet were planted and you went to stand it only resulted in a collapsing with a screech that would have woken up the neighbors, let alone the male sleeping a few paces away.
Rushed footsteps sounded before two hands tried to help you back up.
“Hey, take it easy.” The tone of his voice had dropped to a rough rumble, thick with the last string of sleep.
You gulped.
Shoving him off was too much of an effort at this point and to your dismay it seemed that the only way back on your feet was to accept his help. He didn’t give you a chance to try running again, instead helping lift you back onto his bed. With a groan you threw your arm over your eyes.
It felt as if your head had been trampled beneath a Bone Helm Rhino’s feet.
“Lo’ak,” You said slowly. “What am I doing in your home? Or more specifically, in your bed?”
“You really should drink some water.” You could hear him shuffling, mostly likely going to get you some.
“Lo’ak.” Tongue wielded like a knife you took the little energy you had to muster up some remnants of intimidation.
He sighed.
“Don’t worry. Nothing like that happened last night. I promise.”
Despite your frustration, you believed him. Your clothes were still in tack and it appeared that Lo’ak had spent the entire night sleeping on his floor so you could take the bed. Another part of you was more frustrated by the gesture. He was being such a gentleman it was borderline sickening. Why couldn’t you be left alone to hate him in peace?
“Oh really?” You countered. “Then what did?”
Although you could feel his stare, the arm over your eyes added a false sense of protection from his intensity.
“Exactly what I said would happen. You got drunk off your ass and needed someone to take you home.”
Your arm dropped sharply, heating rushing to your face.
“And you thought that meant taking me to your home?” The sound of your own raging voice caused a ringing in your ears. Lo’ak remained unfazed, a leaf of water already waiting in his other hand.
“I would’ve walked you home tanhi but…” He cringed slightly.
“But what?” You pressed, eyes narrowing.
“Well it was my horny brother that would have kept you up all night so I figured it was my responsibility to help you find some place more…comfortable.”
Your nose scrunched. So many tiny pieces of information yet nothing was coming together to create a true picture of what had been your prior night’s experience.
“He stayed over?” It shouldn’t have surprised you. Talu and Neteyam were progressing at such a fast rate you sometimes wondered if mating was only a few weeks away. Staying the night was only bound to happen before then, especially with those secretive looks that you were forced to witness.
“Still is.” Lo’ak urged the leaf forward, which you reluctantly accepted. Even the cool water burned your battered throat. “I didn’t want them waking you.”
“Sure.” You deadpanned.
“He is not the quietest-”
“Ew! Lo’ak, I don’t want to hear about that.” You reeled back, desperately trying to erase invading images of your sister and the future Olo’eyktan as fast as possible. You loved your sister but hearing about her sex life was not on your list of priorities. A sentiment you wish she had in common with you but there were far too many times that she pushed for information on your end.
Lo’ak laughed and leaned back onto his haunches.
“Well neither do I but it’s information I am burdened with.” His fingers ran through his braids. “Shared a marui with him in Awa’atlu for far too long.” Lo’ak muttered.
“So it’s a good thing you’re here. Won’t have to witness it for yourself.” He patted your knee with a smile before rising to refill the water. You scowled at his back, amiss that he couldn’t properly see your disdain.
With the clouded sky it was difficult to tell how long you had been there but you were ready to suffer the physical strain of walking back in this horrid state if it meant avoiding addressing the elephant in the room.
“Well excuse me if I’m not quick to thank you but I really should be getting back now.”
He eyed you cautiously from across the room. Putting on a tough facade was difficult when your limbs would hardly coordinate as your head pounded relentlessly. You didn’t manage to swing your legs over the hammock again before Lo’ak had crossed the room and was handing you more water.
“One thing I know about Neteyam is that he likes to take his damn time. It’s going to be a while.”
“Oh please, all men claim that.” You scoffed, taking the water from his hands. “Surely even the walk back would be enough time.” You scoffed after downing the liquid.
“Tanhi, you are brutal.” Lo’ak said with an amused chuckle.
“No, I’m realistic.”
“Pessimistic.” He corrected, eyebrows raised in a challenge.
You tapped a finger against your chin as if in deep thought. “Hm let me guess, you are the great exception then? Your claim to a woman's pleasure being sincere for once.”
Those golden orbs darkened slightly, his tail swishing in a slow rhythm. “I don’t have to claim anything. Actions speak louder than words.”
That glimmer of mischief sparked just the same as it did when he was a child. However this time it held promises of things far less innocent. You wondered how many Metkayina women had fallen prey to that vibrant spark. His appeal was undeniable and yet another reason the sight of him made your blood boil.
When were you ever going to catch a break? Your racing heart could surely use one.
“Typical.” You scoffed, finally relenting to being trapped, flopping onto your back.
Lo’ak chuckled and rose, towering over where you laid. From this angle you could see far too much, every chiseled muscle in his body contrasted by the low light.
“Well if you ever want to examine the evidence up close yourself, I am at your beck and call.” He tucked one stray strand away from your forehead and retreated before you could reprimand him. Heat sparked down from your face until reaching your collarbones.
He was such an asshole. Thinking there would ever be a day where you would want that. You were not another doe eyed female he could win over. Even if your eyes strayed far too long as he began adjusting the waterproof fabrics to hang from the marui’s openings. That superficial attraction meant nothing but that you were in the prime mating season of your life. Hormones were a powerful force but not enough for you to forget what he had done.
If any other typical warrior were to take his place the effect would have surely been the same. In fact you remembered feeling that pull to another male last night.
Your tail curled around your thigh. What had happened to him? Flashes of dancing and drinking with the warrior were strong enough to be real but beyond that everything else was a blur. All you knew is that he was more than willing to bring you drink after drink.
Did he see you leave with Lo’ak at the end of the party? There may not have been any true long term interest for the male but you would still feel bad if running off with Lo’ak had snipped him in some way. Especially when getting further entangled with the Olo’eyktan’s youngest son was the last thing you desired.
When Lo’ak scaled the side support beam to flank down the next cover, you caught sight of scabbed marks along his knuckles.
“You hit him?!”
“What?” Lo’ak casted you a glance from where he hung from the beam, thighs flexed around the base to keep him in place.
A fiery glare was shot at his hand.
“Oh this,” He peeled the hand from the bar, casually using one arm to keep a grip. “Yeah I met your special friend last night.” The frown upon his lips showed that he had anything but fond memories of the interaction.
“What a character he is.” Lo’ak grumbled lowly, more so to himself than you.
Like lightning a flash of anger coursed through your veins. Clenched fists and wobbly legs scrambled to push you back into an upright position.
“Lo’ak te Suli Tsyeyk’itan you had no right!”
His legs unfurled and he hung from the bar with one hand, the other out in form of surrender.
“Now wait a minut-”
“You think that just because you want to court me that it puts me off the market for all other men? It’s not their fault that you are too stubborn to let me ignore you peacefully! So what now? Are you going to punch every male that looks in my direction?”
“That’s not what happened.”
“Can’t even handle the slightest bite of competition?”
His eyes narrowed, ears pinned backwards as he leveled you with a fierce stare. It was too late. You were on a roll.
Ignoring the swirling of the room you stomped over to him, finger poking aggressively into his chest as you spoke. “If you don’t like seeing me with other suitors then I suggest you skip to the inevitable outcome and find yourself another woman to annoy! Maybe she will take your constant nagging as a compliment.”
Your chest heaved from the effort, lungs filling with oxygen rapidly as silence fell. An eerie silence that made you shudder from the drafting wind. Lo’ak watched you, voice stoic of emotion before fixing the last flap and dropping to his feet with a thud. Towering over you like a shadow in the night, it was difficult to force yourself to keep from stepping back.
Two more steps and he was close enough to feel the heat of his skin.
“Napau is a crook and disgrace to the title he held. Any man that schemes to take advantage of a woman under strong drink against her will does not deserve to breathe the air Eywa gives. He is lucky that I only had time to get a few hits in.” Lo’ak’s voice dropped into a low register that burned with seething fire.
“He knows what will happen if he crosses my path again. Or Neteyam’s for that matter.” Dark promises whistled in his words, an intense sincerity that had your own nerves rattling. You could only imagine how Napau would have fared under that same intimidation last night.
And then Lo’ak was gone, calmly walking to the other side of kelku to secure the next flap.
A mixture of embarrassment, regret, and dread swirled in your chest. If what Lo’ak said was true then last night could have ended so much worse than it did. A million possible scenarios crammed themselves to the front of your mind until you could feel nausea settling in. During the party you couldn’t even remember Napau’s name and yet that was almost the man taking you to bed.
“You…You told Neteyam?”
“He saw enough to confirm the origin of my actions. Napau won’t bother you again, tanhi.” He didn’t turn to face you, pulling on the rope tight to keep the fabric in place.
“What does that mean?” A part of you was reluctant to ask but you needed to know what became of him and even more so what had almost become of you.
It seemed Lo’ak was even more reluctant than you to talk about it when his tail dropped and he let out a heavy sigh. He remained diligent in waterproofing the marui despite the heavy topic.
“It means he got off with more mercy than he deserved. As I said he was not worthy of the warrior title he held so that was remedied and now he knows better than to come within half a mile of you or me.”
“His title was revoked? How is that even possible? Without the proper authority-”
“Neteyam will be Olo’eyktan soon enough. One word to my father from him will be enough, trust me.” He peeked over his shoulder, watching the way your eyes ran from side to side as you processed the information. It was too much to sort in your hazy mind, too many emotions that couldn’t be felt separately.
Lo’ak softened.
Leaving the flap aside he made gentle steps in your direction, careful not to scare you away.
“Don’t let this weigh on you, tanhi. It has been solved.” Voice smooth and tender, it didn’t matter because it was clear your mind was somewhere else.
“What did he do exactly?”
That struck Lo’ak into a posture as stiff as a board. His tail froze and eyes melted back into that stormy gold color.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Well I do.” You insisted, catching his arm when he went to turn. His whole body froze this time, eyes darting down to where you clasped his forearm. Lo’ak had grown tall, taller than most Na’vi thanks to his father’s Avatar genes. It therefore required your neck craning backward to stare up at him properly.
“I am grateful to Eywa that you do not have to remember such events.”
“But-”
“However, I can assure you that he got no further than a few unwanted kisses and squeezes before I stepped in.” Lo’ak stayed in place, no longer in a rush to fix the kelku as you let his words marinate. It was harder to feel the true wash of relief when your own shouts against the Sully son had been reframed into something more brutal. Apologizing felt like the last thing you wanted to do, especially since a part of you could not let go of your lingering anger towards him.
Lo’ak had saved you.
Why couldn’t you have saved yourself?
All because your stupid pride and spite towards the male had clouded your judgment into behaving foolishly. This is not who you were. Never before had you indulged in such reckless behavior and yet within the first couple weeks of the Sullys returning this is what Lo’ak got to see of you. What type of sorcery did his mere presence hold to shove you into madness?
Lightning struck from above, thunder falling far too quickly after.
Nails digging into Lo’ak’s arm, you watched the sky carefully through the front entrance.
“It bothers me too.”
His voice snapped you back to attention as hard as the crackling lightning.
“The storm.” He clarified, meeting your startled gaze with a soft composure. “The sound is all too…familiar.”
There were no further words needed to understand what he meant. The Sky Demon’s erupting fire had been relentless. Always taking. Always destroying. Crumbling your land before you in a matter of blinking. Awa’atlu no doubt had not been exempt from such cruelty.
“Should I feel sorry for you then?” The cycle of storm started up again and with the next crack of lightning your voice came out shakier than intended.
Lo’ak’s shoulders fell.
“No tanhi,” He sighed, pausing for a moment. “I’m not telling you this to gain your sympathy. I only want you to know that I would never judge you for feeling that fear too.” His eyes flickered down to where you still dug into his arm as the storm carried forward.
You quickly snapped away, taking a few steps back for measure. Veering your attention away from the entrance, you hoped the lack of visual would keep you from crumbling further in terror.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” You mumbled.
“And we don’t have to.”
Such a different tune than the one Lo’ak often sang but one look at his expression showed that he was not lying.
“But you know where I am if you ever do.” He gave a half smile and crossed to put the last flap over the entrance. You weren’t oblivious to the occasional glance he casted from the corner of his eye to check up on you.
Having the marui enclosed completely did aid in dampening your anxiety. It gave you a moment to look around and fully take in your surroundings. It had only been a few weeks since the Sullys had returned to the forest so you were surprised to see his living space so thoroughly crafted. Small candles lit a soft glow that seemed to fill the area with warmth.
Thinking of Lo’ak you would have expected his space to be covered with a messy floor and toppled gear but what you found was quite the contrary. Neat baskets held smaller household items while his weapons were securely kept in hanging shelves. Spears, bows, knives, and other Sky Demon weaponry. Your eyes were caught on the ominous guns before getting snapped away by the sound of thunder.
Your arms snaked around your own waist, willing your heart rate to slow.
Soft lips threatened to break beneath your sharp teeth. Although exhausted it felt as if your body was on a buzz, a vibration that would have you shattering to pieces.
“How do you deal with it?” The question sprung without thought.
“With what?” You had his attention now, his hands swiping at the rain covering his arms.
“The storm. If it bothers you so much, how do you manage?” Although initially embarrassed by your impromptu question it did help to shift the weight over to Lo’ak instead of you. Anything to avoid bringing up the way you had cried in his arms.
Lo’ak surprisingly lit up at the inquiry. A smile curved at his lips and the air of a secret you were not privy to filled his aura.
“I have a secret weapon.” He said proudly, motioning for you to follow him as he quickly dropped to his knees and shuffled through baskets. At the mention of weapons you were already hesitant, stiff as a board. However, for as far as you knew everything that could do harm was on the other side of his marui, so you slowly dropped to your knees beside him.
Lo’ak pulled out on those glowing squares that the scientists were always tapping on. You’d seen them many times in your trips to the outpost but never were interested in becoming familiar with it. This one was smaller, though. So small it fit in the palm of his hand. Then he pulled out another metal object that was an oval shape.
With a few taps on the tiny pad the oval began singing. You shuffled backwards, almost hitting the hammock behind, as if the small device would attack. When it made no other movement you relaxed and awkwardly crouched back into place. To his credit, Lo’ak tried to hide his laughter.
Sky Demon music is strange. So different from the lively drums that accompanied their ceremonies. From the foreign words to strange layers of sound it was always too overwhelming. But this song stood apart.
No language to throw you off but whistling of high and low that would meld into perfect harmony. Lo’ak watched as you creeped ever closer. Despite its soft essence the music gently floated over the sound of thunder and lightning until it felt like the only air filling the marui.
Your tail curled lazily along the floor. Hands bracing yourself forward you drank in every note and phrases that formed together. There was no way of predicting which message would sprout from one to the next but somehow it maintained that perfect fluidity. Like the roots of the trees that intertwined all greenery together, this song was its own habitat.
“Beautiful.” Lo’ak murmured, like a whisper of a secret.
“Beautiful.” You couldn’t help but agree, but when you looked up his eyes were only set on you. Warmth crackled through your veins.
He rose to his feet second after and you craned to look at him.
“I will go drag my brother out so you can go home. At least make sure he’s decent.” His right ear twitched as a glimmer of amusement snuck through. “But you are free to stay as long as you like.”
The rain was still coming down in sheets outside. When Lo’ak pushed the cover aside you could see another flash of light from the sky. He stepped out into the shower without hesitation, braids becoming shiny in the rain. For a moment you considered protesting, insisting that he wait until the storm had passed, but you feared the contradiction. Only a mere moment ago you were stumbling to return.
“Tanhi, you were right.” Lo’ak called over the pounding rain. “It did bother me to see you with him.”
There and gone within a flash. You were left to sit in his kelku with lips parted and head more dizzy than ever. Despite how much there was to unpack you allowed yourself to sink into the sweet melody. Curling up with the blanket that had fallen to the floor you decided that you didn’t have to go back, not just yet.
“Kaltxi [hello], traitor.” You huffed after breaching the entrance. There was no sight of Neteyam but you could still smell his specific essence in the air. Talu’s ears twitched up at the sound of your voice, pausing from where she was cleaning her room.
“Oh come on, don’t be like that.” She chastised you but a smile was already forming along her lips. She tugged the trunk from the corner quickly and sat down atop it. Elbows resting on her crossed legs and eyes shining with interest, her keen attitude was far too much for your hungover state to handle. “Tell me everything!”
“Where would you like me to start? Waking up today in another man’s bed? Or maybe I could tell the story from when you decided to toss me off to him so you could entertain a certain prince last night.” Your arms crossed and nose scrunched as you glared down at her.
Your agitation only increased when Talu let out a short laugh.
“Toss you off? Tsmuke [sister] I could not have pried you away from him last night.” Her correction was accompanied by her own body language mimicking yours, lips tempted into a playful smirk. It made your own countenance falter.
“What are you talking about?” Narrowed eyes pinned her into place but Talu already wore a giddy grin.
“I tried several times to take you home last night but you would not have it. You were glued to Lo’ak’s side, kept talking about how good he smelled.” Her smile only grew as fire burned into your cheeks. “He even offered to walk you home but it was you that insisted upon staying with him. You were absolutely smitten.” She giggled.
“I was absolutely drunk!” You hissed, tailing coiling around your own ankle. You ran your fingers through the root of your tangled hair, eyes squeezing shut in horror. This is not how Lo’ak had told the story. Why would he have spun it differently? “And you just let me fall all over him? Let him take me back to his place so you could fuck his older brother?!”
“Mawey tiyawn [calm down love],” She urged, voice far gentler than your own as she stood and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. “Lo’ak promised nothing would happen and I believed him especially after…” That usual soft composure sharpened into something fierce. You knew exactly what she was remembering. You were confident that Talu would snap Napau in half herself were it not for Lo’ak getting their first. Despite her sweet and tempered demeanor your sister could be vicious once provoked. She had a protective streak that no one could dampen.
“Yes yes I know.” You groaned.
“So then you know that it’s all handled then. Neteyam is on his way to talk to Olo’eyktan right now.”
“Don’t remind me.” You spoke on an exhale, arms dropping to your side. This headache was never going to go away and now it had more ammunition to swirl it into chaos. Was it really as bad as Talu described? How were you ever going to face him again? And yet Lo’ak had not spoken of your clinging once.
“He was quite heroic.” Talu smiled, finger moving to start releasing the knots in your hair. “I thought after how scared you were with Napau that you would want to return home immediately but you melted so easily in Lo’ak’s arms. A few minutes of playing with his hair and you were happy as a clam.”
You covered your heated face, stomach twisting as you imagined the scene.
“Bury me ten feet under.” You whined, slumping into her arms. Talu shushed your worries, nimble fingers doing wonders for your chaotic hair.
“Oh now don’t be so dramatic. I’m sure Lo’ak would never hold it against you.”
And he didn’t. In fact, he went out of his way to spin another story with the omission of your embarrassing desires. Why would he do that? He had been given the perfect ammunition. The perfect proof that you were interested in him and yet he had done nothing with it? Threw it out before even utilizing it.
Surely there was some leverage to be gained after all of his courting to now find you falling all over him.
None of it made sense and perhaps the remnants of pxir were stronger than you anticipated. It seemed as if the world had been spun on its top. You were nowhere closer to unwinding this web now than you were a few hours ago so you might as well rest. With that in mind you unclasped yourself from Talu’s arms and told her you were going to lay down.
Hallway out the door way she stopped you.
“You aren’t mad, are you? Truly?” Her voice wavered with hesitation for the first time since your arrival. “It wasn’t my intention to bring him home but once you were in such good hands….well, the night was so perfect and-”
“It is fine.” You reassured her, hand lazily landing on her shoulder.
“Thank you.” Talu whispered, her eyes melting into a warm honey hue. You shrugged it off.
“I hope he was worth it.” You snorted but one look at the Talu’s sneaking grin and swatting tail told you so much more about their night of fun than you would have liked to know.
Thankfully the storm did not continue much longer. Rain continued to wash over the forest but thunder and lightning had taken its absence. It allowed you to fall head first into a deep sleep, although your dreams were riddled with passing memories. Glimpses of Lo’ak’s hands coming up to wipe away tears. The stretch of blue skin along his shoulder and throat that you snuggled into until his essence was clear. Even the deep rumble of soothing praise as you let yourself fall back into his chest.
Hours later a shuffling of footsteps by the door pulled you out of sleep. Feeling much stronger now, you slowly padded to the entrance with pinched brows. Lo’ak was already gone but another cooked meal was left in his place with a homemade umbrella perched atop to keep it dry.
You thought nothing of it, although begrudgingly grateful for something to fill your stomach. But then you saw something else neatly fold into a leaf, a note tucked at its side.
To keep the darkness away
-Lo’ak
And left behind were those two objects that had played such sweet music in his kelku. His secret weapon, now yours to wield.
Any and all feeback is appreciated! It makes a huge difference for motivation and updating<3

: ̗̀➛ Sending genshin men the wrong message.
part 1
Who?
╰┈➤ Ayato, diluc , alhaitham
situation?
╰┈➤ you sent the wrong message to your boss which was supposed to be for your brother.
✎ this is an au (diluc still has the wine Business)!! Characters is your boss who likes you secretly. ⚠️ Use of cuss words... I'm trying my best to make them character like so be nice jk <3 they are just my genshin top 3 so I made this then I can also read it myself 😭 anyways enjoy <3 cannot assure you of perfect grammar !! I like to keep it simple
: ̗̀➛ AYATO
You accidentally sent those to Ayato, your boss because you kept thinking about him and how you hate his strict side. He doesn't smile and he always looks mad whenever you don't finish on time, it was his fault for giving you so much work. If there's a time where he's good to you it's the time when you finish all the work that he assigned for you to do fast. The next day after that, he'll assign you more and more and it gets annoying knowing you have to work overtime again.
You sent it accidentally because, you weren't focused enough. You are focused trying to guess the time what time you can come home. The first person on your chats list was always your brother so you just got used to it and clicked it without looking. Now you're standing there, in his office expecting him to scream and fire you after sending him such ridiculous messages.
"So..Y/N did I really assign you a ton of work?" It was the first thing he said before firing you, or that's what you thought.
You shook your head.
"No, sir. It's not that..it's just umm, my girl days are acting up I didn't mean those I'm sorry! It won't happen again. I promise."
It was a lie but you were desperate. You didn't want to lose this job because it would be too hard to find another.
"Girl days? You could simply tell me if I'm giving you too much work, I can work on that and I understand if you're tired, but you didn't have to-" He was cutted of by you apologizing to him.
"No it's not that! I'm really sorry. I apologize. I'll take the consequences of my reckless actions." You said as you bowed to him to show your sincerity.
You took the consequences of your actions, it was just your boss giving you work but your work gets easier and less time by time, you didn't understand why of course but people are gossiping about how your boss likes you which you didn't believe at first but he becomes more gentle and gentle to you. You fell for him and when you started dating him, you found out your boss likes you for so long and was actually hurt by the wrong messages you sent, but it's alright now because you kept kissing him and telling him how much you love him.
: ̗̀➛ DILUC
When you saw that reply from Diluc, your boss. You really tried to run away and hide yourself forever. You're using your phone while working? He'll probably scream at you and fire you. That's what you thought. The only reason why you sent that message to him instead of your brother was because you're WORKING. You had to focus on making a drink first while using your phone, it wasn't allowed when your boss was there and one day he just wasn't and you thought it's okay for you to do that.
That's why, it happened. You thought your job was over and you can't do anything about it. Just by thinking what your boss would do to you when you meet him the next day scares the shit of you, well you did compliment him so you hope he'll let it slide but at the same time you also said that it was a loss. You had to go to the tavern, sleepless who looks hopeless at the same time, now you're just standing in front of your boss, diluc while he's at his chair looking really fresh and cool.
"Care to explain?, Y/N" He said, he wasn't looking at you. He's doing his work while waiting for you to speak for yourself.
"I won't do it again, it's really wrong for me to speak bad things about you when you're the one who's helping me to earn money, I'm really sorry. Sir." You said as you bowed to him, when you tried to look at him, he looked confused and stressed by just what you said.
"I'm not talking about that, Y/N. I'm telling you to explain why were you using your phone while doing your work? It's forbidden, you know that right?" Now you felt more embarrassed than you did before. You apologized for speaking bad about him but not using your phone in the middle of your work.
"It was reckless behavior that I did, sir. I'm really sorry. I won't do it ever again. I will do everything I can to assure you that."
He didn't fire you and just told you to do your work, however you couldn't focus for months because of what you did. Diluc was the one who REALLY assured you that it's fine just don't do it again. He's straight up being sweet towards you. You didn't think about it at first but you completely fell in love with him. You may have told him that you loved him when you were drunk and magically out of nowhere, you both started dating after getting drunk that night.
: ̗̀➛ ALHAITHAM
Alhaitham was flabbergasted when you sent those messages and the fact that you didn't realize it because you're that BUSY typing was something else. You just didn't mind it and waited for your iced coffee that was paid by your brother patiently, I mean you always ask your brother to deliver coffee to you so he knows what to do so you just continued your work like nothing.
How did you realize it, you ask? It was when your iced coffee was delivered by your co-workers saying that it was for you, and when you're about to thank your brother through chats you realized your boss, alhaitham was the one you messaged to deliver you coffee. It was so embarrassing but you're thankful at the same time because your boss really did buy you COFFEE but still it was straight up embarrassing making your boss buy you a coffee, so when you finished typing the files that your boss assigned you to, you immediately went to his office, he was the one who started the conversation.
"How was the coffee, Y/N?" He asked while you hand him the files he asked for. He sounded sarcastic that you didn't know what to answer.
"It was a wrong sent message sir, I'm really sorry. I can pay you right now. I'm just really sorry." It was so embarrassing for you, that you couldn't even move your body, you looked at the floor the whole time not bothering to look at him.
"It's alright, you said it yourself. I should pay more respect to my employees especially you."
You avoided your boss after that talk. You'd go the other way around whenever you see him in the office and when you give him the files he needs, you'll immediately leave. You thought you were doing very well avoiding him but destiny had other plans. Whenever you're down and alone, you just see him. You see him everywhere you go, anywhere you lay your eyes too. He just can't be avoided whatever you do. He knows what you're doing he looks like he's unbothered but he's really bothered by you avoiding him all the time, like did he look that scary to you?
Well, he found a way to talk to you and tell you that it's okay it's not a big deal and when you had that talk with him everything felt better. You felt relieved and happy because you felt like you had a beef with your boss, Now whenever you hand him the files he needs, you stay for a little talk and it becomes a hobby for the both of you, he was cold and sweet but you realized he's all that you ever wanted. When you both started dating he may have given you a new office that's very close to his so that he can see and talk to you everyday and anytime he wants.

chris sturniolo x y/n (fem)
(all other characters are highlighted in green)
warnings: SMUUUUT SMUTTY SMUT nsfw 18+ and language & drinking (unprotected+not pulling out, overstimulation, slight praise, SLIGHT dom chris, lil rough at times)
authors note: HERES PART THREE YALL! sorry she’s LOOOOOOONNNNGGG but i’m a fan of details and build up so 🤷♀️ um why am i attached to this story now 🧐 anyways this is smut so yk beware but i hope y’all like it hehe🫶
summary: after a you and chris getting stuck playing a round of 7 minutes in heaven turned into a HEATED makeout session, you attempt to go back to the party….but chris has another idea.
word count: 4,106 w
—————————————————————————
“HEY LOOK! you two didn’t kill each other!” shouted out Madi as chris casually walked back into the basement like nothing happened. you tried your best to take steady breaths and act normal, but your whole body still felt like it was on fire as you headed back to the group.
“GUYSSS this game is boring! can we play pong?” someone yelled and was met by a collection of agreements. you attempted to brush down the back of your hair as you watched chris head over to the pong table. you cleared your throat.
“the fuck happened in there y/n” chuckled nick raising an eyebrow at you.
“oh nothing…obviously. just fucking stuffy in there” you lied. he bought it. “so, madi, did u get to kiss that guy? what’s his name again…?”
“yeah. jack. it was wet. icked me out” she answered shivering.
“oh ewww” you laughed
“OOO I HAVE AN IDEA! let’s do SHOTS” nick said grabbing the two of you. honestly, shots had never sounded better to you. anything to distract you from what had been going on 5 minutes ago. you took a whopping 3 shots in a row and felt immediate regret in the form of intense burning at the back of your throat. Nick gagged uncontrollably next to you. Madi, apparently unbothered, started shouting
“OO I LOVE THIS SONG LETS GO DANCE” at the sound of nightcrawler starting, pulling you to an emptier area of the room. actually having fun for a moment, the cheap liquor doing it’s job, you forgot where you were and began swaying around with your friend, even though your skirt was probably a bit too short to be moving so freely. suddenly, you became aware of the creeping feeling of eyes on you. you glanced over your shoulder and saw chris eyeing you, gripping his cup tightly watching your body. something ignited in you knowing you had his attention again. you continued to dance more, intentionally moving your hips around so your skirt would hike up. you glanced back at him and noticed him attempt to cover up fixing the top of his jeans, fussing with an apparent new problem. feeling bold, you took out your phone and opened snapchat and began typing a message to him. he felt the vibration of a notification in his pocket and reached for his phone, raising an eyebrow seeing you were typing. you finished out your message
“i can see you watching me. you’re not slick”
he rolled his eyes and began typing back before looking back up at you. you opened your phone.
“don’t act like you don’t want me to be watching you”
you looked back up at him. he cocked his head with a smirk and raised an eyebrow, in a challenging manner. frustration and desire bubbled inside you. it pissed you off that he thought he was the one in control here. you wanted to watch him squirm. you typed out your next message with shaking hands and refused to let yourself back out of hitting send
“i’d rather have you inside me than watching me, but whatever”
his mouth dropped open slightly as he looked at his screen. you could see his chest rise and fall from across the room. he looked up at you through hooded eyes, not moving his head. you gave him a shrug before turning your back to him and going back to dancing with madi and a small group of other girls who’d joined. you couldn’t believe how bold you’d been and started to feel regret creeping in as the moments passed by. you refused to look back at chris now, but all you could do was wonder what he was thinking. it started to make you feel queasy. you were just about to tell madi you wanted to go grab water, when you felt a large hand harshly grip your shoulder.
“bathroom. upstairs. now.” Chris growled, out of earshot of the surrounding group, into your hair. your breath hitched as he let go. you turned slightly to see him already heading for the steps.
“Uh-um…I need to get some air and water for a bit. i’ll come back down later” you said to Madi
“Oh okay, you alright? you need me to come with you?”
“Nah i’m good have fun”
“You sure? You’re not gonna puke are you?”
“No” you laughed “I just need a break, seriously though i’m good i’ll be back in a bit” she gave you a small nod and went back to dancing. you tried to inhale as you turned for the stairs, but your body refused to accept the air. you felt your legs shake slightly as you left the sticky basement and headed for the quiet and dark upstairs of the house. the bathroom was tucked down the hall, conveniently in the opposite direction from the front door so it was uncharted territory to most of the party goers. the bathroom door was cracked open slightly. the lights, except for a small blue nightlight, we’re out giving it an eerie blue glow pouring out of the sliver of space. you pushed it open weakly. Chris was carelessly leaning against the sink, supporting himself with his arms behind him. he looked up at you and gestured with his head for you to shut it behind you. you followed his lead and closed it then moved to lean against the opposing wall, facing him head on. you crossed your arms across your chest.
“we’ll you’re quite the little tease, aren’t you?” he said looking up at you through strands of his hair. you tried to look unfazed.
“what do you want, chris?” you said flatly
“you know what i want, y/n” he said hoarsely
“how am i supposed to know what you want? look like i can read your mind?” you retorted, playing dumb.
His breathing was uneasy. the sound of it echoed through the bathroom being the only sound in the room for a moment. your heart raced as he looked at you hungrily. without warning, he pushed himself off the sink and grabbed your face in his hands pulling you in forcefully for a heavy kiss. he let go of your cheeks after feeling your lips give into his, eagerly kissing him back, and moved his hands down to your waist without breaking away from your mouth. he grasped at your skin desperately, as he pushed you up against the wall. he leaned his body against yours and you were sure he could probably feel the immense beating of your heart against his chest. you suddenly became aware of the fact that you had hands again and pushed them back into his hair. he bit at your lip, asking for access into your mouth. you opened it slightly and felt his tongue slide against yours. you pulled at his hair with one had and ran your nails up his shoulder with the other. he let out a small groan into your mouth. you needed to hear him again. you felt his hands start to slide from your waist lower to your thigh. you breathed out unsteadily and felt him smile slightly against your lips. he continued to move them back up your thighs, this time working their way up under your skirt to your ass. it sent chills down your body and you pushed your hips up against him at the sensation.
“fuck” he whispered out as he savagely grabbed at the soft pillowy flesh in his large hands. you never knew his voice could sound so sexy. you brought your hands from around his neck down the fabric of the front of his t-shirt, desperately wanting more of him. as you reached the hem of his shirt, you pushed the tips of your fingers under it. just grazing the sweet spot of his lower stomach right above his waistband with your delicate touch.
“this okay?” you breathed into his lips
“more than” he grunted out against you. with his eager consent you slid your hands up under his shirt, running your them over the smooth skin of his toned torso. you felt his rocky breathing under your palms, which made the wetness forming in your thong even more present. once you reached his collarbone, you dragged your nails heavily back down his skin to the top of his jeans
“oh goddd” escaped his lips, as he wrapped one arm around your waist and one under your ass, lifting you up. you tightened your legs around his waist in response, still not breaking from his mouth. you pulled at his lip slightly with your teeth, loving the feeling of being wrapped around him. he responded by spinning halfway with you still in the air and settling you down to sit on the edge of the sink. you kept your legs around him slightly as he broke away from you momentarily. he maintained eye contact with you as he reached for the bottom of his t shirt and pulled it off over his head. the space between your legs pulsed, begging for contact, as you took in the sight of him shirtless in front of you. your lips parted slightly, scanning him.
“like what you see?” he teased, observing your reaction.
“you have no idea” you said lowly, looping your pointer fingers into the belt loops of his jeans, bringing him back into you. as your lips locked back together again he dragged his hands up from your waist, lightly brushing over your boobs, which were covered by a thin tank top, eliciting a whimper from you.
“you gonna let me see you too?” he said softly. you pulled away and lifted off your top. he exhaled loudly, eyes growing wide at the sight of you.
“my god” he mumbled before bringing his hands up to paw at your exposed chest. you threw your head back slightly and moaned, which he responded to by lowering his head and connecting his warm wet mouth to your nipple, biting and pulling gently. he kissed down your chest sloppily, continuing down your stomach as he crouched. he settled kneeling, looking up at you from the same height as your knees, which you had shut slightly. he looked into your eyes as he gently kissed your kneecap
“open your legs for me, pretty girl” he said in a hushed tone. you moved your legs further apart, feeling the cool air reach the almost unbearable heat coming from your center. he broke away from your eyes, pupils blown out, at the space between your legs that had become visible to him. he sighed hot air against your leg, his lips still partially touching your skin. he reached a hand up your leg, moving painfully slow, to your upper thigh and squeezed. you shuddered, desperate for contact. Chris seemed to understand what you needed and moved his hand further along your skin and to the lacey center of your thong. he ran his finger tips so lightly across your dripping heat, it ached and you bucked your hips forward overcome with the need for more.
“fuck youre so wet” he muttered, almost more to himself in amazement at your arousal.
“chris—please—“ you gasped out rolling your hips towards him again.
“hmmm?” he sung out, just barely pressing his index and middle finger at your clothed entrance. you let out a small cry.
“so worked up for me already huh, baby?” he taunted. the name alone was enough to make your insides throb.
“Chris—stop fucking teasing me” you spat out
“only fair…you teased me first” he said before biting down on your inner thigh, still drawing small light circles around your clit over the lace fabric. you whimpered, loudly.
“But if you’re so desperate” he hooked his fingers around the sides of your thong
“okay” he finished, pulling it down your legs. you suddenly became aware of the fact that you were completely exposed to him and felt the urge to shut your legs, which chris quickly halted you from doing.
“christ” he hissed out before moving his mouth painfully close to your dripping pussy. he was so close to where you needed him you could feel the hot air of his breath hitting your folds.
“please—“ you whined out in one last attempt to stop his torture. finally, he listened as he pressed his warm wet lips to your clit then dragged his tongue down your folds. you grasped at his hair trying to stable yourself as your legs shook at the feeling of him beginning to push his tongue into your entrance. he groaned, sending vibrations into you, at you pulling his hair which made you lift your hips higher pressing his face further into you. both of his hands were wrapped around your thighs, holding you in place, but he slipped his grip on one side so he could position his hand to rub your clit with his thumb.
“oh fuck” you exhaled. he removed his thumb and dragged his tongue back up to your clit continuing the circular motion. your pussy ached begging for something to fill it and you tried to grind your core harder against him. he began to press two fingers against you entrance. you sucked air through your teeth and moved your hands to claw at his upper shoulders as he pushed his fingers into you, curling them upwards slightly. your eyes rolled back into your head as chris slowly began to pump his digits in and out of you.
“oh goddd-yes chris”
“you look so cute when you’re moaning my name like that” he said looking up at you still driving his fingers deep into your core.
“feelsss—so good” you gasped out as you felt yourself start to clench around his slender fingers.
“are you close already for me baby?” he cooed at you in a mocking tone
“sh-shut up chris—just don’t stop” you spat back pulling at his hair.
“trust me i’m not gonna stop til i see you cum all over my fingers for me”
“ohh my—fuckk” you stuttered feeling the build up in your core begin
“good girl cum for me y/n” chris said pumping into you rapidly with his hand. your body shuddered and your legs attempted to snap together as you came down from your high. you tried to catch your breath, fluttering your eyes open just in time to see chris standing back up and sucking your juices off his fingers, looking at you.
“y’taste fucking good”
“oh yeah?” you snickered out
“don’t believe me?” he asked leaning in to kiss you so you could taste yourself on his lips. he gripped at your thighs again before harshly pulling you down off the counter and spinning you around so your back was too him and you were looking at him in the mirror above this sink. something in his eyes looked almost animalistic now, as he clenched the skin around your hips so harshly it would leave marks. he began to suck and bite your neck from behind, as you heard the sound of him unzipping his pants and fabric hitting the ground. he stopped playing with your neck and looked at you in the eyes in the reflection resting his chin on your shoulder.
“watching you cum for me like that got me so hard baby it hurts so bad” he said with desperation into your ear
“really?” you said almost genuinely surprised that doing something for you would turn him on that much. you felt him wrap his hand over yours and guide it behind you. he pressed your hand to his painfully hard member that was pushing against the fabric of his boxers. he groaned at your touch
“yeah, really” he added pressing his hips forward further.
“Chris it—“ you fumbled looking for words, feeling his throbbing dick against your palm fully for the first time without the thick denim of his jeans in the way.
“hmmm?” he mumbled with his eyes half closed rocking back and forth to build some friction
“You’re so big” you stated. you didn’t know why it would surprise you. Chris gave the vibe of the kind of guy who would be well off in that department but still, something about the length of the hardon you could feel shocked you.
“you sound surprised” he half chuckled
“no i-i-jus-“
“cmon y/n don’t act like you haven’t thought about my dick before” he said pushing himself harshly against you this time
“so when are you gonna bend over the sink for me so i can give you what you really came up here for”
“Chris— already—i mean i just” you stuttered. you were still recovering from the the shockingly intense orgasm you’d had from him fingering you.
“mmm so much for handling you, looks like you can’t handle me”
“hey that’s not fair—”
“so if you don’t want me to fuck you, why are you still grabbing my cock” he snarled. you felt your pussy throb uncontrollably again at his words. he was right. you didn’t just want him to fuck you, you needed it. you let out a pathetic whimper as you leaned yourself over the sink, bringing your ass up higher for him.
“good girl” he purred out as he stripped his final layer of clothes off. you felt him line his tip up with your entrance before he began to sink into you. you let out a desperate cry at the feeling of him stretching you out and you watched his eyes roll back and his jaw go slack as he bottomed out.
“fuck you’re even tighter than i imagined” he exhaled, stopping any motion giving you a small moment to adjust to his size before pulling back out of you again. when he moved again he wasn’t as gentle. he slammed into you fully, causing a slap to echo through the small room. you squealed a pornographically loud moan, as you felt him fill you up. your pussy clenched relentlessly around his pulsating thick length.
“jesus y/n” he huffed feeling you tighten around him, shuddering against you.
“mm more chris” you whined out
“dont need to tell me twice” he said biting your earlobe. he began to pick up the pace of his thrusts, hitting your g spot every time, making you almost see stars. the feeling of him stretching your tight walls and hitting you so deep into your core was such an intense feeling of pleasure and pain, you let out a string of irrepressible moans and curses. you felt tears start to form and roll down your hot cheeks. you hung your head down limply as it bounced slightly with the rhythm of chris pounding into you from behind. his constant grunting and groaning was enough to keep you wet forever. you closed your eyes focusing on the overwhelmingly pleasure and felt one of chris’s hands grip into your hair, pulling you back with force. you snapped your eyes open and saw him biting his lip, hair in sweaty strands sticking to his forehead, pupils so black the blue of his eyes was invisible, cheeks flushed, staring at you as he mercilessly rammed his dick impossibly further into you.
“I want you to watch me while i fuck your brains out y/n” he panted to you. all you could do in response was let your mouth fall open in a pathetic whine, your brows furrowed in overwhelming satisfaction of being so filled up. he took this as an opportunity to slip the hand that had been grasping at your hair to your mouth and slide his fingers between your lips. you followed and sucked on them obediently. he watched hungrily, never letting up on his pace, before slipping them back out of your mouth creating a popping sound. he lowered them down between you and the counter to rub your clit again. you screamed at the new addition to your pleasure and collapsed slightly forward.
Chris smacked your ass harshly with his unoccupied hand before growling
“did i say you could stop watching?”
you looked back up at him again, tears now streaming down your face causing your mascara to make big streaks of black across your flushed skin.
“God you look so fucking sexy. such a mess for me, gorgeous”
“CHRIS—i’m gonna—fuck” you started to pant
“you wanna cum again for me, princess?” you whimpered in response as he pounded into you still drawing faster circles across your incredibly sensitive clit.
“cum all over my dick, baby. let it out” he said kissing your neck in encouragement. you felt yourself release around him as the room seemed to buzz and your vision went blurry, reaching a level of ecstasy you never knew existed before. your walls pulsed rapidly around him as your legs shook wildly, making his thrusts become harsher and sloppy.
“oh god fuck—y/n i’m close”
“yeah? you gonna cum chris?” you breathed out looking back at him. his brows were furrowed as he watched his length disappearing into you, mesmerized.
“shit yeah nghhhh fuck where do you want me to cum, baby”
“just don’t stop, chris” you said watching him, entranced by how gorgeous he looked this worked up.
“wha-/what?” he stuttered looking back up at you shocked
“i said don’t stop, chris”
“but—then i’ll—“
“i want you to cum in me” you whispered, loving the boyish look of excitement and fear wash across his face.
“but—“ he weakly questioned once more desperately fighting off his release
“don’t tell me you’re gonna be boring, chris” you teased, arching your back further which only intensified his pleasure.
“fuck no, y/n” he said breathlessly. he wrapped one hand around your throat lightly.
“i’ll fill you up with my cum if that’s what you want”
“i need it, chris—please” you begged
“OH GOD OH FUCK IM GONNA CUM FUCK”
“yeah, baby? i wanna feel you cum inside me”
“SHIT IM CUMMING OH FUCK” chris slurred out before stopping still deep inside you. you felt his dick twitch against your walls spurting his thick warm release inside you, as his body shuddered at the feeling. he panted against your skin collapsing slightly on top of you, leaving sloppy kisses on your shoulder. you breathed heavily in unison, watching him regain control of himself in the mirror. he lifted his head slightly to grin at you. you let out a small breathy giggle, still supporting yourself with your arms at the sink. you were sure your legs wouldn’t work properly for a few weeks. he slowly stood up enough to pull himself out of you, causing you to let out a final whimper at the loss of fullness and slight overstimulation. he chuckled, reaching back for his clothes. you followed his lead and searched for your own.
“still don’t think i can handle you?” he said as he pulled up his pants
“i’d say you did a pretty good job” you replied, leaning back against the sink, watching him zip up
“PRETTY good job?” he said feigning offense. you leaned over to give him a light kiss on the lips.
“okay, yeah. i stand corrected” you giggled as he leaned back in to give you another light kiss
“still think i’m no fun?” you teased, inches from his face.
“oh no i take that back totally” he said, kissing you once more before pulling away to put back on his shirt. you leaned back to the mirror to try to fix your makeup enough to make you look presentable to the friends you’d have to face downstairs shortly, but you felt chris’s eyes on you.
“what?” you asked
“nothin” he started. he looked down at the floor, scratching the back of his head in thought.
“i guess—i guess i just wanted to say m’sorry?” you raised an eyebrow
“dunno i’ve always been such a dick to you. and look it’s not like you’ve been an angel to me either—but still. i dunno. guess i was always just freaked out by the way i felt around you. like all nervous and outta control. i’m not used to that. so it was easier to tell myself i hated you than anything else, but i always knew it wasn’t the truth—i’m sorry i don’t mean t—“
“hey, stop chris, i get what you mean. think i’ve always felt sorta the same way” you said turning to face him and place a hand on his cheek to get him to look at you.
“yeah?” he asked with a sheepish grin, placing his hand on top of yours. you nodded and he leaned in to kiss you again.

A Day to Remember
Tags: Rooster x reader
Notes: hi babes!! Thank you much for the request, sorry it took so long, school is kicking my ass 😅
Warnings: weddings, romance and everything that comes with it
"No. There's no way I'm gonna have oragami F-16s thrown at my head on my wedding day." You laughed incredulously.
When Bradley had proposed, you thought your life couldn't get any better. You had a dream job, a dream man, and friends that had been exactly what you needed, even though they were unexpected. Telling the squad went exactly how you expected, everyone was more excited than they had been when Roo and Maverick survived the Dagger mission. But no one had been more thrilled than Phoenix. When Pheonix asked to help plan the wedding, you were hesitant at first.
You had first-hand experience with her lack of party-planning skills. Somehow, even though she was incredibly organized during her work, the woman had an utterly disastrous record with parties.
And your wedding was going to be a pretty big party.
But how could you say no to Phoenix? She had been there for you through everything. From showing up at your door with pints of ice cream when your favourite character died in the show you were watching to going full Godzilla on the new recruits that tried to hit on you. It was nearly impossible to say no to her when she pulled her puppy dog eyes out and started reciting every favour you owed her.
So you agreed.
"C'mon, please? It will be cute, I promise." She pleaded as you continued to put your toppings on your pizza.
It was Wednesday, which Phoenix had decided was the designated wedding planning day. She would show up with a bottle of whatever you guys wanted to drink and you would make the pizza, frozen to accommodate for the cooking skills neither of you possessed.
"Look, I already let you get away with the abundance of mason jars, I'm not getting divebombed by a bunch of the planes that we fly." You grinned.
Rolling her eyes, Phoenix conceded, and that was how a lot of the planning was settled. Phoenix would bring up hundreds of crazy ideas, and you would filter through her overly enthusiastic party planning to find the good ones. You and Bob would rein her in whenever she got carried away, especially when she brought up the idea of having a literal rooster at the wedding.
"I think it's hilarious," Rooster said as you two got ready for the day. He came up behind you, turning you around to face him as he lifted you up onto the bathroom counter. Your hands automatically came to rest on his shoulders, fitting perfectly just like the two of you had when you met.
"You have one already and you can't seem to get enough, honey." He continued grinning.
You swatted at his chest, giggling as he began to pepper kisses along your neck, following a path that only he knew down to your collarbone. You tilted your head back to give him access to your soft skin that only he would ever earn, and your words came out in a breathy sigh.
"I think you just-" Your train of thought halted as he sucked on a particularly sensitive spot of your neck. "You just like the idea of a little Roo running around, you brute."
The rest of that morning consisted of him trying to make said 'little Roo' happen, not that you were complaining.
The wedding was 3 months away and you were choosing your dress. Payback had insisted you go to the boutique that his grandmother used to run, saying that you could even get a dress for free. You tried to urge against it, but after his granda met you she wouldn't hear a 'no'.
"Oh, it's so nice that my Rueben made some friends. Let me tell you about the time he.."
So you agreed.
Everything was ready and Phoenix was running around like a madwoman trying to orchestrate the chaos of venues, cakes and flowers into one magnificent symphony. It was 3 days out from the wedding and you had gone with your bridesmaids to the hotel Pheonix had rented to have some much-needed girl time. Rooster and the rest of the guys had done the same, probably off partying somewhere under Mav's watchful eyes.
As you sat getting your nails done, the colour a baby blue that Rooster had picked out, you continued to poke at Phoenix for the details of the wedding. She had demanded to keep you out of the loop when it came to the majority of the venue decoration she had selected. Even Rooster wouldn't spill when you called him that night.
"I don't wanna face her wrath, honey. You know-" He began.
"Hey! No talking to the groom. It's bad luck!" Phoenix said as she plucked the phone from your hand.
When your wedding day finally came, you were a ball of nerves. As you got blindfolded and brought up to bridal sweet to get ready, you could only imagine what combinations of decor she had concocted. In your mind, you replayed the time she tried to throw a Christmas party for the squad that resulted in one too many poppers, a fireplace, and a whole lot of firetrucks.
"Ready, kid?" Maverick's voice broke you out of your thoughts.
Taking one last look in the mirror at yourself, the dress you had picked out making you look like a princess, you nodded and took his arm. As the two of you finally stopped in front of the doors that stood between you and your future, your heart swelled with anticipation. The sound of Bruno Mars 'Just the Way You Are' being played on the piano filled your ears, and Mav straightened where he stood, looking down at you with a proud smile.
"That's our cue, kid. You got this." He whispered to you as the doors opened.
All at once every ounce of fear or worry you had been holding on to dissipated.
Phoenix had outdone herself.
White Calla Lilies hung from the ceiling, surrounded by fairy lights and other perfectly placed bobbles. Every table was decorated with a centrepiece of forget-me-nots and daisies. The teary smiles of your family and friends stared at you in happiness. Even the mason jar candles sat in just the right amounts.
Your eyes locked on Bradley, whose tears were already flowing, and you walked down the aisle without hesitation.
Mav handed you off to Bradley, muttering a few protective words before going to take his seat as the priest began to speak.
"Hey, you." You whispered to Bradley.
"Hey, hun." He choked out through tears.
Both of you stood at the altar, grinning ear to ear at each other. Your vows to each other made sure there wasn't a dry eye left in the room.
"You may now kiss the-" The priest began to say.
He didn't even get a chance to finish before Rooster already had his hands on either side of your face and was slamming his lips to yours. He was kissing you so hard your hands shot out to hold the lapels of his suit jacket so your swooning didn't cause you to fall over.
The crowd erupted in cheers, and you could hear the distinct sound of Hangman and the other guys hooting and hollering as Bradley poured every single ounce of love he had for you into the kiss.
You had your first dance to 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', and before you knew it you and Rooster were being whisked away by Phoenix for your send-off.
The same send-off that she had refused to tell you about.
"Just don't get mad!" She said quickly.
"Nat? What do you mean? What did you do?" You looked to Rooster for help but he was wearing the same conspiratorial grin as Phoenix.
Before you could say anything else, she was already pushing both of you outside. It took a second for your eyes and ears to adjust to the sight and sound of your cheering loved ones who were lining the steps of the venue. It took even longer to process what you saw in each of their hands.
Instead of baskets of rice, everyone there was holding what looked like a piece of paper. You were about to ask Bradley what was going on, but then something hit you in the side of your head. Startled, you went to turn to see what hit you, only to be greeted with the sight of a mischievous Phoenix holding two origami planes.
Two F-16s to be exact.
Before you could react, you and Rooster were getting pelted by a rain of paper F-16s. You burst out laughing as he grabbed your hand, pulling you to the limo so quickly you barely got a chance to wave goodbye to everyone.
You let out a sigh of contentment as you slipped into the limo, looking back at the perfect venue and perfect friends who had planned it all.
Okay, maybe you'd let Phoenix plan every party you had.

Villain-Fucker Angst Hours
Good timezone, darlings~ Are you ready to get all up in your feelings? No? Me neither, loves, but here we are regardless so the words are going to flow as they usually do... This is focused on Raphael from Baldur's Gate 3 and his fandom, but the latter section can easily apply to any villain fandom.
Self-Analysis of Devil-Fuckery, Or Why Do I Adore Raphael When He Is Very Obviously Evil: A Short Essay by TavyliaSin (Who Still Cannot Name Anything With Less Than A Full Paragraph) ((NSFW)) (((Game Spoilers)))
The following may discuss heavier topics, but without specifics, so whilst it should be safe for most to read without triggering any difficult memories please be aware of Raphael's entire vibes, the content and context of his story, and I'd also like to mention that this isn't a "woe be us for we are terrible people" piece, it's actually more about:
"There is an inherent kindness and warmth to much of the Raphael fandom, and I think there could be some common threads behind that, pulling us all in closer in a comforting blanket that we wrap around each other to keep out the cold of the world."
So, what in the nine hells am I on about? Well. Raphael-fandom is a wild and wonderful place to be. The rest is in sections, so feel free to skip through to what you feel is relevant to your interests. I am so prone to waffle I should open a restaurant~
Who Are Fans Of Raphael? What Do They Want?
We are feral, unhinged, all sheets to the wind "I want that devil man, carnally, and there is no force in all the planes that could stop me". There's the vanilla to the extreme and every level in between, tops, bottoms, versatiles, Doms, subs, and switches - there are a whole lot of people who would love to get their hands on either (or both) of Raphael's forms, for a simple smooch or something far more spicy~ [edited in] To add on to this, not all of us even desire him in a sexual way, for many it is romantic, soft, or even just the rather pleasant thought of spending an evening with drinks by the hellfire because he would be fascinating company. Aces, Aros, and AroAces may all find themselves well within the devilish corners of fandom too~ which is a whole other essay~ [end edit] So, I see you. I'm one of you. Extremely loud and utterly hingeless in my fan appreciation for Raphael. He's one of my favourites to write about, I seek art of him, and the same goes for his mirrored other half, Haarlep, who I arguably love more despite there being far less content of them in the game.
And the Fandom? The Vibe?
From my experience in the Raphael Fandom areas, we have a very deep and abiding understanding of consent, respect, and treating each other with an absolute and uncompromising kindness. We've had talks about keeping each other safe in fandom, exchanged details of people we have encountered who need to be avoided, even shared details between moderators of different fandom servers to pre-ban people proven to be creeps and/or art thieves. We've also discussed consent, including the issues with it in the game, and how areas of the story can only really be considered dubious at best and could easily be triggering for people. And these discussions have been open, honest, fair, and with the acknowledgement that most of us love these scenes anyway. So there's a sense of care that runs through everything, behind the horny-posting and fan content, behind the endless thirsting after our favourite fictional characters. We have a depth of kindness that warms my sinners soul every time I see it.
What Does This Have To Do With Self-Reflection, Raphael, or Villainy In General?
Well let's look at Raphael. He's a villain, obviously. He's manipulative, devious, and inherently evil by his very nature. He keeps Hope chained in his basement, constantly subjected to endless torture. There's also mention of how Gortash was sold into his service at a young age, clearly not an enjoyable experience given the other details and how things turn out (particularly as Raphael would need Gortash's own plans to fail entirely in order for him to succeed in his own and get that crown). And as fans, we accept that. We don't sit making excuses, or trying to say "well actually Gortash is a little shit and Hope probably deserve it", and we don't shy away from or conveniently ignore those darker sides of him with malicious intent to enable more evil to flourish. What I noticed, when I allowed the thoughts to continue, is that there is a theme here.
If Evil Can Be Loved Then So Can I
That's the core. Of course, darlings, I am not claiming to be a heinous monster. I certainly do not have a laundry list of crimes that would make the devil himself say "Uh, that's a bit much." But I sure as fuck treat myself like I do sometimes. You see, I think a lot of us have that tendency, to judge ourselves far more harshly than anyone else. Our patience, understanding, and forgiveness for others runs deeper than the Mariana Trench, but when it comes to our own flaws? One minor mistake and we think ourselves to be the worst beings ever to disgrace the earth. Thus, the villainy we see reflects how we are treating ourselves. So by loving and accepting all of those things that should be terrible, hated, we are actually learning that no matter how poorly we think of ourselves that we can be worthy of that same love and acceptance. We are extending the affection we are unable to show ourselves to someone we see the worst parts of ourselves amplified within. And that's why villains attract the people with the most kindness. The most forgiveness. Because it takes someone with a truly huge amount of empathy to find love for the embodiment of evil.
Or, IDK, maybe villains are just hot and we're too far down to care.
But wait, before you go!
THERE'S SOMETHING WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT.
All of this is about FICTION. We should never be accepting of the kinds of evil we see in the game irl. We do not owe anyone kindness if they do not show it to us.
What is hot in fiction is not always OK IRL.
Look after yourselves out there, remember that consent is key in all things, and please do try to learn to love yourselves, darlings, you are worthy of it and you should judge yourself by the same standard you judge others. If you are in doubt, if you are worried, if you feel afraid - reach out, talk to someone. There are many who will listen.
Treat yourself as you would treat a friend. You deserve that much.
Oh, and all Raphael fans who understand kindness are welcome around me, any hour of the day, I adore our little fandom circles and would gladly collect all of us together. I'm following a lot of you as soon as I find you, like hunting shiny pokemon~
See you in Avernus, my darling Little Mice, may we all find joy in the Cambion's Embrace~
#baldurs gate 3#raphael#bg3 raphael#villain fucker#personal reflection#analysis of the inner mind by a complete amateur#listen the thoughts get loud then I write them down darlings it happens all the time#love yourself please#you are worth more than you give yourself credit for#and keep loving those villains! it's good for you!#be kind to yourself#and be kind in the community#did this even make sense? well it's there now so tough#DMS are open for fellow fans with excellent taste~

can you write a hurt/comfort Kaveh x reader where the reader feels insecure because they don't have any talents or passions and Kaveh reassures them that they deserve to be loved even without those, and if they want, he'd help them find something they like doing that makes them happy
SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG !!! I had writers block 😔 anyways thanks for requesting :3 (idk how to title this do I just made it comfort)
Kaveh x Reader comfort
TAGS: mentions of alcohol, fluff
CHARACTERS: kaveh, mentions of alhaitham
BEFORE READING THIS:
I’m gonna make it so Kaveh and Alhaitham are still roommates, it’s just alhaitham allows you to stay over and stuff because you and alhaitham are friends too.
The scenario for this is you and kaveh were drinking and you accidentally say things you didn’t mean to say while drunk. (Alhaitham isn’t at home right now)
Lately you’ve been feeling down, but you didn’t want to tell it to kaveh because you felt like it would only make you a burden, that is until you accidentally let it all out one night.
“Cheers!”
Kaveh said, bringing his drink up to yours. You two haven’t seen each other in awhile, due to personal reasons such as him having multiple projects, but now that it’s over, you two decided to celebrate.
You two had been drinking for the past hour, your cheeks only getting more and more flushed per sip.
“Finally that project was over! That client kept wanting me to change things, it went from him saying it needed ‘minor changes’ to the point that he changed almost everything!”
Kaveh exclaimed, taking more sips from his cup.
“Anyways, how are you?”
He turns to you, noticing your flushed cheeks.
“Drunk already? Hmm… but it’s only been your third drink!”
He laughed, before noticing your sullen expression.
“Hey if you want to go to bed you can… I’ll wash the cups don’t worry”
When you didn’t stand up, kaveh placed a hand to your shoulder.
“Love?”
“Stop…stop calling me that”
He looked at you with a worried expression, gently cupping your cheek.
“What’s wrong?”
You buried your head in your arms, after taking a sip of the wine.
“You…I don’t deserve you… “
Kaveh frowned, setting his hand that was on your cheek to your shoulder.
“And what brought you to that conclusion?”
“Forget it”
You mumbled before taking more sips.
“No no please y/n, what’s wrong? Is it cause of my projects?”
The thing is, it was because of his projects, not because you weren’t spending time with him, but because you can’t help but feel like you’ll never be as talented as he is.
You hated how you made yourself feel bad about it, it’s not like kaveh said anything or anyone did. It was truly your own mind.
Kaveh noticed your silence, he felt guilty even though he didn’t do anything wrong.
“I’m sorry I’ll spend time with you more I swear! I promise y/n”
He said as I tilted your chin to look at him.
“That’s not it”
You mumbled.
“I’m not good like you… I don’t have any passions, I can’t do anything well, I don’t feel good about myself. I feel useless”
Why were you even telling him these? You don’t know. To your surprise, you kept talking.
“How could you possibly love someone as useless as I am? I can’t do anything at all!”
Kaveh set both your drinks aside.
“Please look at me”
He muttered, before hugging you tightly.
“I love you very much, I don’t think you’re useless at all. I think quite the opposite. I think you’re amazing, the way you’re so kind and caring…I love you.”
He rubbed your back comfortingly, looking at you with a frown.
“I think you’re more than enough love…”
He pulled you closer, burrying his face on the top of your head.
“And plus…there’s no rush, it’s okay, it’s everyone’s first time living…”
He cradled you in his arms
“If it makes you feel better, maybe I can help you? I know I’ve liked art since I was a kid, but I’ll do anything in my power to help you.”
He gave you a reassuring smile.
“I think you’re wonderful, I love you so much.”
To his surprise, when he looked down at you, you had already fallen asleep in his arms. Most likely due to you being drunk.
He presses a kiss to your head and carries you to his bedroom.
—
The next morning, he’s already prepared with stuff you two could try, and if you tell him that you feel bad for “wasting his time” he will always say no and that he loves you
Thank you for requesting! So sorry if this was mischaracterized or I wrote reader a bit weird 😞 I hope ure okay tho!! Just a reminder that everyone deserves to be loved <3

OPINIONS ON KAIDAN EE/IF???
My honest reaction:
in all seriousness, if you wanna hear me yap about it, more under the cut
warning like, genuinely a ginormous yap, like a HUMUNGOUS, sleep-deprived yap,,, im cursed to be obsessed with skyrim + modded followers instead of touching grass
I think a lot of this is probably gonna be the same thing other people have said, so im sorry
if you feel i'm gonna be bringing up redundant points and get mad at me😓dont read
I haven't experienced and thus won't talk about the versions of EE and IF that are now separate mods from each other. I don't know anything about that.
if they're better now yayyy but this is about pre-separation
I should preface this with the fact that I've played through Skyrim 3 times with different stages of Kaidan EE/IF:
The initial Dawnguard + fixes/miscs mod
Kaidan EE/IF versions before extensive faction/NPC dialogue for Kaidan
EE/IF w/ NPC Dialogue (AKA Fratpack)
I was also part of the two different discords that were purged and created during these intervals. i don't even know if there is a discord currently?
anyway, that is to say that I have experienced the mod and it's behind-the-scenes progress, extensively so I have a pretty good idea of what I liked and didn't like
That being said, I will introduce probably my biggest problems with it: Tonal whiplash
Okay, well the most common complaint is ofc that a lot of the writing is out of character - and I agree. But it's not just ooc on paper, it's his voice too. I swear, it is very jarring hearing hushed, mild og Kaidan 2 voicelines, and then being deafened by EE Kaidan SCREAMING in my ear ALL.THE.TIME. (like... why are you yelling at me rn jeez)
Seriously. I'm not sure why they didn't just re-record everything from the original mod instead of adding more and more contradicting lines on top of the originals. It definitely could have been a standalone mod, and sometimes it almost feels like it is - because he is just so different.
My most infamous moment in my last playthrough with him happened after we defeated the dragon at Kynesgrove. His og Kaidan 2 dialogue played first, in it he shows interest and is cordial about Delphine ("I wouldn't mind prodding her mind" or whatver dialogue), THEN immediately after his Kaidan EE/IF dialogue will play, in which he walks up to Delphine and STARTS YELLING AT HER AND INSULTING HER - like they argue for quite a bit wtf. And it's like, listen, I have my thoughts about Delphine, but whether or not it was okay to yell at her isn't the problem. It would be fine - IF he hadn't just calmly told me he thought she was okay.
It is sooo confusing how he contradicts himself :(
I mean, yeah, fragments of who he is are still there, I can tell it's Kaidan, but he's warped to fit a different character. Like a con-artist Kaidan.
Anyway, besides the contradictions, it also feels out of character because of his established backstory.
Let's go over it: He's an orphan, lost his only connection to his family(his guardian) to drugs, fell into substances himself, joined a violent cult, had to escape said cult, came clean from his addictions, has been traveling Tamriel bounty-hunting, got brutally attacked by the Thalmor, rescued by mere chance. Do you honestly mean to tell me this man would be yelling, pissing, drinking, lewding, and joking his ass off?? After all that???? NO - or maybe not these levels of extreme. (maybe some other dude might, but Kaidan's characterization insists he is a brooding, keeps-to-himself man, even though he never acts like it anymore)
That man should be tired, and he did feel like he was tired in the original. He was more brooding then than he is now, usually silent, but could still have an edge of comedy/wittiness, he was smart, he had been through a lot!
In that regard, EE/IF Kaidan felt like... we are experiencing Kaidan 10 years in the past - like a Kaidan in his early 20s when he was still a drunkard low-key terrible person. He is just so energetic, always yapping - GOD he talks a lot now. ugh but most of the time it wasn't about anything, it was either inside-jokes, meta jokes, and only occasionally did we get things that added to the experience.
For example, I think most of us who have played Kaidan 2 remember at least one specific line he has said while exploring. What comes to mind for me is either "Can you smell the magicka in the air too? Smells like a rainless thunderstorm." or "Watch for the mammoth with the carvings on their tusks, that's how the giants mark their herd." Alright, both pretty nice small talk for characterization (he IS smart) and worldbuilding.
Tbh i can't really remember any iconic lines from the additions of EE/IF Kaidan... the only two lines that stood out for me were: the "elevenses" line from the clip above (started bumping into him every time he was about to say this so he would stfu... total tonal dissonance), and one he said while I looted Lucky Lorenz ("poor sod wasn't as lucky as his namesake would have you believe!") kai HOW do you know this man, and his nickname, who told you that??? (idc about it that much but its like the only other added line i remember)
I thought that maybe his ooc-iness might have been caused due to the collaborative approach of the mod, I think the mod authors created their own perfect Kaidan - and that's good for them! It takes a shit ton of work (Ik cuz i was there!!) But I think the original essence was lost with each addition. It might have been lack of direction for the voice acting too, a lot of the lines might have hit better if they weren't borderline screamed.
Okay, at some point while playing I got so tired of his constant himbo chit-chatter that I tried tuning him out and bringing other npcs from vanilla skyrim as followers. Problem: even without kaidan on your party, everything starts being about kaidan. Because the extension made it so that Kaidan either has history with/character interactions and development with different NPCs from the base game.
The main poor sods that traveled with me:
Erik the Slayer: Apparently was Kaidan's childhood friend, got inspired by Kaidan to become an adventurer. Least egregious in my opinion, they say sweet things to each other. I swear, Kaidan yells more at me than he ever did at Erik.
The Companions: dumb, dumber, and dumbest basically.. This part of EE/IF was also known as "The Fratpack" and y e a h they pretty much had Vilkas, Kaidan, and Farkas acting like immature frat boys all the time. Just,, absulutely taking away all the maturity out of these GROWN ASS MEN. im sorry, i guess i dont get the appeal. I liked it when they didn't behave like teens (Aela im so sorry, you deserved better than being part of this)
Lydia: All she does is simp for him, ALL.THE.TIME. You think she's about to have a meaningful thing to say? nope, she's checking out Kaidan's ass. Think she'll have a deep convo with another npc about one another? nope! she wants them to tell her all about Kaidan. Both the Companions and Erik will either talk down to her or have to deal with her thirst for Kaidan. i had to start leaving her home.
They also suffered from the same tonal whiplash as Kaidan, unfortunately
additionally, the mod added an "early flirt switch" - you could basically toggle Kaidan to start showing romantic affection for the Dragonborn before the amulet of mara., the interactions were good on paper, but everytime he stammered and stumbled over his words it was written in such an unnatural way... pls people don't talk like fanfics lol !!!
I did like that he gave me flowers, my inventory got full of them - but then he noticed how many flowers I had in my inventory and judged me for "picking everything i see" ugh dude you gave them to me, but also even if you hadnt... mind your business lol
Another addition was a feature that basically made it so NPCs could potentially throw flirtatious comments at Kaidan and the Dragonborn (Bishop flashbacks😨)
You can't do anything to defend Kaidan from those comments, but he WILL take it upon himself to defend your honor infront of any men, women, jarls, or criminals that even so much as find you attractive (THIS INCLUDES FARKAS AND VILKAS BTW :( ) by being rude, forthcoming, AND violent. so yea, you can guess the target audience
speaking of which, he definitely comes on too strong on you once you start the romance, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I specifically picked the "go slow" option for the romance, and the next day or two it was him constantly complaining about having to go slow under his breath, how he wanted to do anything but slow rn... and like just, wow. :/ yikeees lmao
Maybe this is the result of "i can fix him" romance ideals? im sorry but I liked him when he was down to earth
Bonus? He comes with a campsite now, which has to be magic because its ginormous and he somehow lugs it around despite it also coming with a whole ass furnace (fine fine i'll hold my disbelief)
anyway I do like it, its basically a player house you can take anywhere (so long as kai is with you ig) also you can have a cat in there
I like that there is an MCM, I like that the MCM lets you get through the quest stages in case you get stuck
I like that he can guide you places, usually he gets stuck in a tree or rock but its the thought that counts
I think if the mod had continued in the vein as its original iteration when it was just audio/bug fixes and included these qol features it would have been better than it is now.
But it seems maybe i'm just not the target audience, and as a young woman I'm really confused as who the target audience is 😓
okay im srry rant over
if anyone else wants me to yap about other kaidan skyrim things also ask or join in cuz i like yapping about skyrim and kaidan to people!!!
#anon im so sorry you opened pandoras box with that one#my most favorite interest ever so i must yap about it#kaidan 2#kaidan skyrim#skyrim custom followers#tesblr#skyrim#tes v skyrim#kaidan mod#modded skyrim#this new kaidan is evil!kaidan he is evil he does not respect woamen#also please don't judge me for giving him a chance 3 time i thought he'd get better😔#im looking at the workshop version of him with a lil hope but EE/IF disappointed me so bad i cant trust anything anymore#pls just give my man an mcm

Horror movies w bsd boys PT. 1/2
Characters;(part one) Chuuya, Dazai, Nikolai,(part two) Bram, Fyodor, Poe
SFW!/Fluff or just silly things:3
A/N; I just wanted to post something for October/Halloween since Halloween is coming up and stuff:) I also added small scenarios at the very end bc I think it's just better for me! Please bare with me thanks! :3 ALSO!! THIS WILL BE A TWO PART THING!
**✿❀ ❀✿** **✿❀ ❀✿**
Chuuya★🍷
• Chuuya would sit through the entire movie and say he isn't scared but when you glanced over you could obviously see him jumping at the scares
• Chuuya would squeeze your hand everytime a gore scene happens because even if he works for PM it still makes him uncomfortable
• When there is a betrayal in the movie chuuya gets like, obviously angry since he hates betrayal
• Chuuya is definitely cussing out the movie if he gets like jump scared badly
• You or Chuuya would probably and up falling asleep after a couple movies and either one would have to carry the other to bed
• If y'all don't fall asleep durning the movie(s), Chuuya definitely cuddles you after the movie(s)
Dazai❀ 🐌
• Dazai is for sure a more of a kid movies/romance movies rather than horror but he watches them with you anyways (my opinion)
• Dazai says he's not scared but he literally screamed in the first 30 minutes into the movie
• Dazai definitely stress eats durning the like stupid scenes where the female/male is getting chased and they trip
• Dazai is the one to fall asleep first if the movie gets boring he won't even hide it, he will lay his head on your lap, shoulder, arm etc.
Nikolai♠︎ 🂻
• Nikolai would want to watch clown horror movies to make fun of how stupid they look
• Nikolai would make little jokes like putting his hand through his cape abd tapping you on the shoulder when you seemed bored to him
• Nikolai would eat every sweet there so yall would have to pause the movie and go get more
• Nikolai would ask SO many questions such as "Why'd they even trip nothing was there" "that person is stupid, what are they even doing?" Etc.
• Nikolai would get annoyed at how stupid the actors are in the movie(s) even if he knew that's how the script was
Scenarios♡ ;
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
Chuuya★ 🍷
It was a late night and Chuuya just got home from work, y'all decided since it was the start of Halloween, y'all would watch a horror movie. So y'all went out quickly to get snacks, drinks, popcorn etc. Y'all then came back and settled down in the living room, cuddled together, a blanket draped over the two of y'all.
Y'all decided on a simple classic, The Grudge. You could already tell Chuuya was doubting the movie, his leg tapping, running his hand through his hair, biting his nails etc. Chuuya was afraid of looking like some wuss in front of you, Chuuya wasn't one to do horror movies, he didn't like them he preferred action more than anything.
About half way through the movie, Chuuya was squeezing your hand tightly. Maybe he was uncomfortable with the movie? Who knows though, because you didn't. All you did was interlock your fingers with Chuuya's gently rubbing the top of his hand with your thumb to sooth him.
After the movie was finished, which was about 1 hours long, you looked over at chuuya. He was asleep, his head lay back on the back of the couch. You slowly got up, picking up the smaller ginger, carrying him to the room y'all share. You lay chuuya on the bed and cover him, getting in the bed with him. A soft "I love you" escaping your mouth..
Dazai❀ 🐌
Dazai and yourself were at yall's shared apartment. You and the brunette were bored out of yall's mind, pacing in the house, playing eye spy, etc. It was a complicated time for a simple conclusion, go out buy food and watch movies all night. So that's exactly what y'all did
Y'all drove to a store, buying salty, sweets, popcorn, Carmel popcorn, etc. Whatever y'all wanted then, and once the both of y'all arrived home, you and the brunette got comfortable on the couch and started up a good horror movie.
It was about 30 minutes into the movie when things got suspensful. Dazai was eating most the sweets (stress eating) but you were fine with it, it's not like the sweets were expensive. There was a lot of gore and killing, the actors being well, the stupid actors they are, tripping over nothing calling out etc.
Once the movie was over y'all both sighed.. Y'all were tired and well, full. So the brunette decided to go to bed and you followed quickly behind. The both fell asleep in the bed. Cuddles to one another.
Nikolai♣︎ 🂫
Halloween was coming up, Nikolai and yourself decided to work on Halloween costumes. It took about an hour or so to remotely figure out one thing y'all wanted to do for a costume, matching? No. Extremely scary? Maybe not. It was so hard to figure anything out. So y'all both decided to take a break and watch a horror movie.
Y’all quickly decided on a movie, Terrifier, it’s a simple gorey clown movie. The both of y’all had went to the nearby gas station, grabbing a couple of snacks. It took only about 30 minutes for y'all to go there and back and get comfortable in the couch turning on Netflix and turning on the movie. Y’all were gently cuddled together in a warm blanket.
The movie was about 30 minutes into the movie, there was a lot of blood guts etc. and then Nikolai decided to mess with you. Using his ability to tap you on the shoulders, rubbing your leg etc. just trying to scare you a bit. But it didn’t work because you could see the bright glow of the portal but every time you smiled at it.
Until y’all knew it, the movie over and y’all were getting up to stretch your limbs, soft hums and soft noises of bones cracking. After y’all had cleaned up the two of y’all decided to get back to figuring out costumes. Hours passed and it was around two in the morning, y’all were both tired and exhausted but y’all ended up figuring something out, ghostface and a killer clown (of course Nikolai was the killer clown.) Once y’all had finished ordering things online y’all went to the room the two of you shared, getting comfortable under the sheets and blankets, falling asleep slowly

dada!shiu with piss :3
dada ! shiu.
author notes; dada is just a title and does not refer to the literal, all characters are adults.
tw; dada!shiu, piss.
★
shiu turned off his cell phone and sighed loudly, throwing his head back and twisting a little in his chair.
he heard you stirring on the small sofa, looking for a more comfortable position, probably trying to stop your bladder from leaking, because he could see the stain on your panties.
"hey, give me my cigarette." he pointed to the small box on the table next to you, watching you do it, coming over to him. a perfect opportunity, he pulled you onto his lap.
he thought about lighting one, but he didn't like smoking so close to you, throwing the box on the table. shiu turned to you, your pretty eyes looking at him, and deep down he could almost hear you begging for help.
he ran his hand down your thighs, pulling you closer and better. "you should have asked for help." he said, slowly slipping his hand inside your panties, observing and feeling carefully. "because if you don't, i can't help you."
and he really wouldn't have done it, would have let you get all wet, maybe dirty the whole sofa in his office, and just watched everything, probably smoking. well, he couldn't negotiate with you if you didn't talk to him.
he stroked your little pee hole, pleased to feel it wet, leaking slight drops with each caress.
"n-need help." you whimpered, pushing against his hand, almost desperate to release. he smiled with satisfaction.
he took his hands out of your panties, holding you by the hips, placing you on the table with ease. shiu pulled down your panties and smiled, looking at your pretty folds, leaving a little kiss on the top of your mound of venus, then one in your hole.
his hand slid down to your belly, pressing mercilessly on your full bladder, making you squirm and whimper loudly, leaking piss immediately. and it felt so good to finally let go, relief surging through your whole body.
shiu was still standing there, feeling the liquid wetting his clothes, splashing on his face.
but he was patient, waiting until the spurt subsided, licking around her folds and finally reaching them, drinking and sucking up all the piss that was still leaking out. his little mustache tickling you, making you stir.
oh, how he liked this...
he pulled away slowly, helping you close your legs and leaning back in the chair. sighing through his wet clothes, he reached for the small pack of cigarettes and took one out, pulling his lighter from his pocket to light it.
you pulled him closer with your feet, being helped to back onto his lap. "dada will smoke now." he said with the cigarette still in his mouth, then blowing smoke out.
you nodded, leaning closer to him and feeling his hand stroke your hair briefly, before returning to wrap around you.
a it was the first time i did something on it so it was pretty new, but i think it's good, even if its a bit short. oh, also think he'd be a slightly colder dada, but didn't want to show it so much...
anyway, hope you liked it! <3

We'll Meet Beyond The Shore.
Somewhere beyond the sea, she’s there watching for me, and if I could fly like a bird on high, then straight into her arms I’d go sailing.
Tags and Warnings: Major character death, enemies to friends (to lovers), doomed lovers.
n/a: People seemed interested in this so I thought I would make this official and give it a go writing it. I have four chapters written already so hopefully I'll stay on top and keep writing more. Please read the warnings and tags carefully; you'll probably hate me for this (and this fic) so I'm very sorry in advance but I'm evil and this is literally my playground. Anyway I hope you read and enjoy :)
Chapter One: The Reaping.
Fox Mulder awakens from his nightmare in the dank, dark basement he has called home for the last year. Skin clammy, heart hammering against his rib cage, he swings his legs off the bed and breaths in and out slowly, counting to 10 each time, willing his heart to slow down.
It was just a nightmare, he repeats to himself.
But it wasn’t just a nightmare.
A memory. Old but still as fresh in his mind as it was two years ago. District Seven’s town square, the smell of wood and sweat as the sun beamed down on him, a bowl full of names- girl names- and one called out.
Samantha Mulder.
In his dream he teleported, in the way one does in a dream, and he was right there, helpless, watching as his 12 year old sister was bludgeoned to death. She didn’t even make it past day one’s bloodbath.
He watched as his mother sunk away, a shell of herself, his father leave not 3 weeks later.
Mulder left himself, eventually, vowed to kill the Capital as they had killed his sister but he was just one boy, grief-stricken and angry, and his cries for an uprising went unheard. Mostly. The Peacekeeper’s had come down on him hard, punished him severely for it, but not executed, not as Mulder wished to be, his father’s influence was far too strong.
So Mulder left completely, snuck away in the dead of night with a band of merrymen. They had a boat and a dream to get far away from Panem as they could.
Their boat and their dream capsized on day 5, a strong wave knocking their tiny boat to pieces. Only Mulder survived, clinging on to a plank of wood, drifting unconscious for 3 days, into the territory of District Four.
A ship found him.
At first Mulder thought they were Peacekeepers but upon closer inspection he found they were dressed as simple fishermen. He was pulled aboard, introduced to the captain, the father of the boy who helped him up, who introduced himself as William Scully and his son, Bill.
Captain Scully took him to a pub, fed and watered him, and didn’t ask where Mulder had come from.
The pub became his job, the basement his bedroom. A week later he registered as a resident of District Four and his name was entered five times.
He hadn’t escaped. The hadn’t destroyed the Capitol. He never would.
Mulder shakes the dream, and memories of another life, from his brain. He puts on the clothes he wore yesterday and climbs the staircase leading to the pub.
He finds Wade at the bar, pouring drinks for the old sailors who have nowhere better to be. Mulder nods once at Wade who nods once back, a mutual good luck said between them. Wade is 18- the same age as Mulder- but his name sits waiting in that bowl 35 times to Mulder’s meagre 5.
Mulder bypasses the bar and heads towards the kitchen. He almost smacks into Kehlani, hands and arms full carrying three plates food. She knows exactly what he is here for.
“You’ll have to get in line, Mel’s backed up and it’s only half 7,” she tells him before she’s rushing towards her table. Mulder looks around the near-empty pub before he pushes on the kitchen door.
Melvin is frying fish in a pan. It stinks and Mulder resists the urge to cover his nose.
He really, really hates fish.
“Get lost 7,” Melvin shouts over his shoulder. “I’m backed up in here, you’re gonna have to wait.”
“Yeah, Kehlani said,” says Mulder. He throws the fish in the pan a distasteful look. “You got anything other than fish on the menu?”
Melvin smiles at him and Mulder counts one less tooth from yesterday. “This your first time in Fish District?” He cocks his head towards the door. “Saw a tree on my way in, maybe you can eat some bark?”
“Ha-ha maybe you should’ve been a comedian, Frohike,” Mulder says, his voice dripping with sarcasm. He nabs the bowl of fruit sitting on the counter and leans against it.
Frohike and Kehlani were the only ones who knew where Mulder came from. Sat in the basement, the expensive bottle of whiskey between the three of them, Mulder finally told them he had been born in District Seven after their constant prodding. More questions and he told them what it’d been like living there. They stared at him in awe, soaking in every bit of information. They’d asked him which he preferred, Mulder hadn’t answered, keeping that one to himself.
“Hey,” Melvin calls, a sudden seriousness looming over them. “How’re you feeling today?”
Today.
“I’m good. One more year, right?”
Melvin nods. “One more year.” Then. “I found Kehlani crying this morning. I didn’t know what to say to her.”
“What did you say to her?”
“Nothing. What do I say to her? This shit’s fucked.”
Mulder looks towards the door, conscious of who could hear them, then quietly whispers. “Yeah…”
Kehlani bursts in then and looks at the two of them.
“Slacking off, Mel?” she admonishes , hands of her hips, the perfect imitation of Laguna the landlady.
“No!” yells Frohike turning bright red. “Just waiting for the fish to fry.”
Kehlani turns her attention onto Mulder and her eyes narrow, staring at the bowl of fruit.
“That was my fruit Mulder,” she tells him with a pout, dropping the imitation.
“Shit, sorry Lani.” Mulder holds the fruit bowl out to her. As her hands touch it to take it, Mulder says, “Good luck today, yeah?”
Kehlani looks to Frohike who quickly casts his eyes away. She turns back to Mulder and gives him a small smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. “Yeah, you too.” Mulder lets go of the bowl and she steps back. “I’m gonna go eat this,” she says to Melvin. “Mulder can be a waitress for a bit.” Then with a smile backed by a memory. “Don’t drop the plates this time, yeah?”
“I’d forgotten about that,” says Frohike with a laugh.
Mulder tosses him a glare and watches Kehlani leave wondering if this could be the last time he ever sees her.
.:.:.:.:.:.
The gulls caw, flying overhead. Dana watches them, committing them to memory. Her bare foot grazes the water, committing that to memory also, along with the breeze and the smell of seawater and sand. A ritual each year because what if it’s the last?
“Dana!”
Dana sighs and turns her head down the pier. Melissa approaches slightly out of breath.
“Mom’s looking for you. She wants us to eat before we go.”
Dana turns away to look back out into the ocean. “I’m not hungry,” she says.
Missy sits down opposite her. They used to do this all the time, sit out here together. Dana found her one time, when Missy had just turned 12 two days before the reaping, her eyes red from crying. It became tradition, each year 11 and 13, 12 and 14, 15 and 16…all the way up to last year when they were 17 and 19, when Melissa was free but Dana was still stuck with her name in the bowl 14 times, double the amount it should be.
“You have to eat,” says Melissa with concern.
“I’ll eat after the reaping.”
“Dana—”
“I’ll eat after the reaping,” Dana repeats louder and harsher. If she eats now she’ll throw up and that’ll be a waste, not when Melissa, Charlie, their mother can have more servings.
Melissa sighs, resigning herself. She looks out towards the ocean.
“I hate it,” she says.
“What?” asks Dana.
She points to beyond them. “That. The ocean. I’ve hated it for 3 years.”
“I love it.”
Melissa looks at her. “Only because Dad loved it.”
Dana shrugs. “You should come out with me and Billy on a ship some day.”
Missy shakes her head. “I’d just get in the way.”
That was true, Melissa wasn’t made for ships. But still…Dana smiles at her.
“What are you smiling at?” Melissa asks her, weary.
“If I’m not reaped, you have to join us on the ship.”
Melissa looks at her, aghast. She frowns, conflicted, and then relents.
“Fine…” And Dana smiles some more. “But only because I really don’t want to wish you were reaped.”
They both look out towards the ocean again, their smiles fading.
“I’ll see it again, won’t I?” Dana asks quietly.
“Yeah,” says Melissa with so much confidence Dana actually believes her. “And who knows, maybe Isla will finally be reaped.” Missy’s smile is cruel.
“You’re really going to hold that grudge forever, aren’t you?” Dana asks, shaking her head.
Melissa nods. “Yep, never letting it go.”
They smile at each other once more before movement on the other side catches their attention, hoards of people making their way towards the town square.
Dana’s stomach twists. It is time.
.:.:.:.:.:.:.
People flood in like waves. Mulder navigates his way to where the cluster of 18 year olds stand. He finds himself next to Wade who’s eyes are down and he is white as a conch shell. His eyes meet Kehlani’s across the way standing with the other 15 year old girl’s. He smiles, she smiles back. He pulls his eyes away and looks down.
One more year.
.:.:.:.:.:.
She holds onto Charlie’s hand for as long as she can, until the Peacekeeper blocks their path and pulls them apart. She watches as Charlie walks towards the other boys before she is gently shoved towards the direction of the girl’s. Dana glances at them only briefly before she is staring straight ahead, eyes on the bowl, a bowl that holds 14 pieces of Dana Scullys.
One more year.
.:.:.:.:.:.
The Mayor, Walter Skinner, Monica Reyes.
The Mayor, Walter Skinner, Monica Reyes.
The Mayor, Water Skinner, Mon—
“The boys!” Monica Reyes calls out, as she does every year. She always starts with the boys. Mulder clenches his fists, tries to tamper down his nerves. Wade is shaking beside him, Mulder can feel it rolling over him in waves. Reyes places her hand into the bowl, searches around. Mulder glances at Wade, the other boy is…crying? Reyes pulls her hand out, unfolds the piece of paper. It’s Wade, Mulder thinks. That piece of paper has Wade’s name written on it.
“Fox Mulder!”
It’s Wade Firth—Wait. Mulder freezes. All eyes on are him.
Did she just say Fox Mulder?
.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.
It’s not Charlie. Thank god it isn’t Charlie.
Dana releases her breath, one of two she holds.
It isn’t Charlie.
Instead it is Fox Mulder.
Dana had heard of him, a strange boy. It was rumoured he was the boy her father had found out at sea the year before, the boy from another place. His surname was familiar. 6 years ago a girl with the same last name had been pulled from the bowl, 12 years old, she had died almost immediately, everyone around her was just thankful it wasn’t their own.
Fox Mulder was the boy tribute but who would the girl be?
Monica Reyes places her hand in the right-hand bowl. Dana holds her breath, watching. She wants to close her eyes, hold her hands over her ears and be anywhere but here; sat on the pier watching the waves in the water, sailing on the ship pulling up nets of a hundred fishes, anywhere but where she was standing right now.
Monica pulls her hand out, unfolds the piece of paper. The name is said crisp and clear, there was no mistaking it. Somebody familiar cries out just as it all sinks in.
Dana Scully is the girl tribute.
.:.:.:.:.:.:.
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully stand on the stage. Mulder looks towards Dana, she can feel his eyes on her, she stares ahead. Scully, is all Mulder can think as he stands there, like William Scully? He wants to know but Dana gives him nothing, she can’t.
Reyes tries to get the crowd to clap but there is nothing but dead faces staring back at them. This isn’t District 1 or 2 where celebrations are held. District Four might not be the worst of the Districts but one will still find no jumps for joy here. All are still scared. All are still angry.
The doors close and they are all submerged in darkness.

Strawhat Pirates, ranked in order by how much I would trust them to hold my drink at a party
Nico Robin. I would trust her with my life and my drink. She's got extra hands holding the cup, covering the top of the glass, and still has hands to dance, drink, and probably read a book!
Jinbe. He's tall and intimidating in the first place, good luck getting the drink away from him anyway. But aside from that, he's responsible as hell. He's watching that drink. Maybe even a little anxious about it until you come back. He is not letting that drink out of his sight!
Sanji. Especially if you're a girl. But even still, this man is passionate about food. He would not let ANYTHING bad happen to that drink, even kicking away potential threats. His hands are for kindness, so he's got that cup in a death grip, hand overtop of the lid. He probably even gets you a cute umbrella for the drink, too!
Franky. He's just gonna put it inside of his chest in a fridge! You might even get a cola back with it!
Nami. This girl will defend that drink. She's got her own drink and yours, and she's standing protectively around it. She might try to charge you for it, though, but honestly I think she'd be willing to help just for the sake of keeping somebody safe. She doesn't want anything bad to happen. (Maybe give her a tip or buy her a drink after though)
Brook. He could probably just place it in his ribcage or his skull. Kinda depends either way how you feel about that. Very very likely to give a skeleton joke in reply, too!! ("I'd hold your drink, but I don't have any hands! Yohohoho!!!" And then he guards that drink with his life.)
Usopp. Listen. I would trust him so much with my drink. He would go full weird-mode on someone. He would bark at someone trying to get after your drink! He's only so low on this list because he would probably drop the drink and then speedily try to get you a new drink before you came back. He's very protective of it, but it's definitely not the drink you left him with.
Chopper. I fully believe he would take his job very seriously and watch the drink, but he might drop it because of his hooves. And he might accidentally take a sip of it, too.
Zoro. He's very protective. Arguably one of the best. I should put him at the top of this list. But he's drinking the damn thing 3 seconds after you walk away and we all know it.
Luffy. Same as above. He'd be dancing, spilling the drink all over the place and then drink what was left of it before remembering that he was actually supposed to be watching it. Oh well, at least he had fun!
Should I make a Part 2? Leave characters you'd want to see below and I'll try to compile a list of Non-Strawhats and how much I'd trust them with my drink!

<your pov>
I worked diligently in the kitchen, the intoxicating smell of pancakes and bacon cooking flooding my nose as I cooked. I blinked a few times while turning around as the lights flickered on and off to find Vincent walking into the kitchen.
This was something he had started doing so I would know he was there and so he wouldn't startle me. We had tried to get Bo to do this as well, however it didn't stick long.
Hello my love, I signed as he approached me. I placed a gentle kiss on the mouth of his mask before turning back towards our breakfast. Bo had headed out early this morning due to a call from Lester, so we didn't have to worry about his constant teasing, as if I could hear it anyways. I could always tell when Bo was teasing us tho, Vincent's grip on my hand would often tighten as I feel his skin get hotter as he flushed an adorable red blush.
Vincent wrapped his arms around my waist and placed his wax mask on the counter next to us, grabbing my face gently and turning it to face him, his way of saying I had missed his lips. I smile and gently kiss his lips in response. I slowly pulled away before turning back to the food, not wishing for it to be burnt. Vincent promptly pushed his face into my neck, his hands brushing up the baggy shirt I wore to rub on the lower part of my warm belly.
I carefully began pulling the bacon out of the pan, placing a few pieces on either of our plates before flipping the pancakes. Vincent's hands slowly left my belly as he walked away to make our drinks, I smiled fondly as he does so.
I carefully carry the plates over to the table and place them down, Vincent coming up behind me and setting out glasses full of our (drink of choice). I walk over to a cabinet, pulling out some honey, maple syrup, and (other topping of choice). I placed them on the table before walking over and grabbing the pan of pancakes and placing a few on each of our plates as Vincent sets down a fork and knife by each of our plates. He walks over to me and plays a soft kiss to my cheek, taking the pan and spatula out of my hands and placing them in the sink before sitting down, urging me to sit and eat with him.
I nod softly, sitting across from him at the table and pour some (topping) onto my pancakes before digging in, me and Vincent tearing to the food. After we finished eating, I went to begin washing the dishes, only to have Vincent walk up to me and pick me up, carrying me back to our bedroom before walking back downstairs. I simply laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling with a smile, extremely happy as I think of how lucky I am to have such a wonderful boyfriend. My mind finally fades as my eyes shut, the final thought going through my mind becoming my dreams, a soft memory of teaching the man, that I love so, how to communicate with me.

A marriage of convenience, part 2: tolerance.
Pairing: Yoriichi x you
Summary: Yoriichi's friends think that Yoriichi is too lonely and needs a wife and family to take care of him. They propose a marriage of convenience to a woman who's in need of a husband. The arrangement of the marriage is simple: both parties live their lives as before, y/n takes care of Yoriichi as a wife and Yoriichi keeps unwanted men (and demons) away. Love is not required, friendship is appreciated. However, how detached can one be when living so close to each other?

Series Masterlist
*~*~*~*~*
“Are you sure that this is alright?” asks Sumiyoshi as he stares at the key in his hands. “Yes. Take it. You’ll need a bigger house with another one on the way and I don’t have any use for it anyway”, Yoriichi reassures him. “Still... What if this marriage doesn’t work out?”, Sumiyoshi asks. “It will, I guess.”, Yoriichi answers. Sumiyoshi does not look convinced by this statement. “Well, if anything goes wrong, we always have an open door for you.”, the smaller man states. Yoriichi nods, “Thank you, now let’s go. There won’t be a wedding if we remain here.”
The ceremony was simple. Only a few selected people were invited, including the Kamado family and some close friends. (Y/n) wore a plain uchikake kimono and Yoriichi wore his usual attire. His friends tried to convince him to wear the traditional black and white attire but he didn’t want to wear the one he already owned and saw no need for buying a new one. After the ceremony, the wedding party gathered outside of (y/n)’s cottage where food and drinks were served. While most weddings are celebrated deep into the night, this one ended before the sun disappeared behind the forest trees.
(Y/n) and Yoriichi tidy up most of the dishes as soon as the last guests leave. Meanwhile, (y/s/n) looms behind them, still unsure how to deal with this new situation. Yoriichi could sense that the boy still mistrusts him. He couldn’t blame him for this either. Not every day a random man appears and marries your mother within a couple of months. They dry the dishes more slowly than necessary, prolonging the time when it was time to lay to rest. It is the first time they would spend the night together in the same room. They still didn’t know each other well which makes the whole deal a tad uncomfortable. After the last plate has found its way back into the cupboard, (y/n) turns around. “It’s time for bed, (y/s/n). Why don’t you show Yoriichi again where our bedroom is?”, she says. (Y/s/n) nods and takes Yoriichi by the hand. Yoriichi already knows where the bedroom is. (Y/n) gave him a tour of the house during one of his visits before the wedding.
As they enter the bedroom, he notices how his futon that he brought with him this morning is already laid out for him. (Y/n)’s futon is right next to his and her son’s much smaller futon is on her other side. “Come on then, take your yukata. Let’s go brush our teeth.”, she says as she takes her own sleepwear that is folded neatly on top of her futon. As they leave for the bathroom, Yoriichi has a moment to breathe. He quickly changes into his own sleepwear and waits for the two to return, so he can go to the bathroom as well. After he brushed his teeth, he enters the bedroom again. (Y/n) and her son are already settled in their futons and (y/n) is reading a story from a book to her son. Without interrupting them, he settles into his own bedsheets and stares at the ceiling while listening to (y/n)’s soft voice. It’s a story about a blind boy who gets lost in the mountains and finds his way home by listening to the trees and creatures around him. He likes the way (y/n) is telling the story. She changes her voice when she is reading the different characters which makes her son giggle in glee. When she’s done, she kisses (y/s/n) on top of his head, wishes Yoriichi a good night and blows out the candle beside them. Left in the dark, Yoriichi listens to their soft breathing. He thought it would be harder to fall asleep in this new environment but before he notices, sleep takes hold of him.
*~*~*~*~*
The next few weeks are characterized by the three of them finding a new rhythm in their everyday lives. Yoriichi learns that (y/n) spends multiple days a week tending to her garden, collecting herbs, and mixing ointments and medicine in her workshop at the back of the cottage. Twice a week, she fixes up a small cart which she takes to the local villages to sell her products. These days, she gets up before the sun shows her face on the horizon. Often it happens that Yoriichi just returned from slaying demons and (y/n) is already up, preparing her trip. (Y/s/n) is still asleep in the bedroom. Recently, (y/n) has started to prepare breakfast for the both of them before she leaves and Yoriichi lays down to rest. Up to now, (y/n) still takes her son with her on these trips. Yoriichi suggested that he can also watch over the boy, so (y/s/n) doesn’t have to get up so early. However, (y/s/n) does not like this idea and still gets up early these days.
“Give him some time,” (y/n) says, “he eventually warms up to you. I’m sure.”. They’re both currently in the kitchen eating the onigiri (y/n) has prepared for the both of them. It’s one of these early mornings again when Yoriichi has just returned home. (Y/s/n) stumbles into the kitchen with one shoe on, pointing towards the other one in his hands. (Y/n) gets up to help him. As she turns around again, she says: “We’ll be off then. There’s lunch for you in the cupboard over there.” Yoriichi puts down his cup. He raises an eyebrow in surprise. “It’s earlier than normal. Don’t you usually leave at first light?” (Y/n) nods, “Yes, but the village we’re selling at today has a fair today. Which means we have to be there early to get a good spot.” Yoriichi shifts in his seat. “I see. However demons may still lurk in the shadows around this time. It’s dangerous to walk the forest alone.”, he says. (Y/n) smiles and says: “Don’t worry. I know these woods like the back of my hand.” Yoriichi crosses his arms in front of his chest. “Still, you never know when a demon decides to venture into the woods in an attempt to find shelter from the sunlight.”, he argues. “Well,”, (y/n) says, “I guess it’s a risk I have to take." Yoriichi rises from his seat. “I’ll walk with you.”, he says determined. (Y/n) seems embarrassed at that. “It’s alright, Yoriichi. You have a long night behind you. You should rest instead of following us around.” Yoriichi shakes his head. “I’m fine. It’s been a slow night.”, he points out.
They've been on the path which leads outside the forest for a while now. (Y/s/n) is running ahead inspecting the plants and insects that live next to the path. “He shouldn't walk so far ahead. He should stay in our sight.“, Yoriichi remarks. His hand rests on the sword at his side. He feels anxious about the boy walking all over the place. (Y/n) should have more control over him, he thinks. However, (y/n) seems to be relaxed about the entire situation. “Don't fret Yoriichi. He's a child. He wants to explore things. You would sense if there is a demon around, so I think he's safe.“, (y/n) calmly states. “You put too much faith in my abilities.“, he solemnly states. (Y/n) laughs lightheartedly. “You're too modest. I've heard about your reputation.“, she states. Instantly Yoriichi feels embarrassed. He doesn't like people talking about him like that. (Y/n) suddenly looks thoughtful. “I'm surprised you haven't heard about me before. I often work together with demon slayers.“, she says, “but maybe you're just so good, you never need my services.“. Yoriichi feels his cheeks heating up a bit. “Please stop. I'm not worth that praise.“ (Y/n) has to laugh at Yoriichi's flustered expression. “I am sorry. I did not mean to embarrass you.“, she says as they continue their way to the village.
The morning and early afternoon were quiet for Yoriichi. After their arrival at the village, (y/n) set up shop alongside some other merchants. People passed by their wagon and (y/n) sold medicine for colds, small injuries and fever. Meanwhile, (y/s/n) chased after the village boys in an attempt to play with them. Yoriichi watched both from afar. Around noon, the daily market started to change. The vendors who sell vegetables and everyday objects pack up shop and new vendors arrive that sell candy or toys. Eventually, (y/n) packs up shop too and calls back (y/s/n). “I’m really hungry. Are you up to getting something to eat before we join the fun?”, (y/n) asks Yoriichi. He nods as he stands up from where he was seated. (Y/s/n) hops up and down excitedly. (Y/n) chuckles. “I know that face. That’s the face of someone who wants to eat yakitori, am I right?”, she says. The boy nods vigorously. “Let’s go then”, she says.
After having a good lunch at one of the food stalls, the small party of three starts wandering over the fair. They play some games at some of the stalls. (Y/s/n) tries to win a ball at a fish-the-duck stall with no luck. They try their luck again at a shooting stall. Since (y/s/n) is too small to shoot an arrow, he convinces (y/n) to shoot by pushing the bow into her hands. However, (y/n) proves to be a terrible shot. Eventually, they convince Yoriichi to take a shot. Even though it’s a child’s game, Yoriichi feels the expecting glances from (y/n) and the boy. Luckily for both of them, Yoriichi does not miss and wins an ugly stuffed pig. (Y/s/n) couldn’t be happier and presses the stuffed animal against his cheek in joy. Eventually, the village children catch up to them and ask if (y/s/n) wants to play a game of cards with them. (Y/n) agrees and the children wander off to play their game. (Y/n) sighs deeply. “I never know with these children. Sometimes they want him to tag along, sometimes they don’t want him to play with them.”, she states. Yoriichi hums in agreement. “Don’t worry too much. They’re children.”, he says in response. “Yes, and children are cruel.”, (y/n) points out. Pointing to the stuffed pig, she says “Well, at least he got this thing. I hate to say it Yoriichi, but I think this is the ugliest thing you could’ve possibly won for him around here.” Yoriichi shrugs and says: “As long as he likes it, I’m glad.” (Y/n) laughs at that which is something Yoriichi hasn’t heard a lot since he moved into the cottage. It suits her, he thinks. “I guess this also made you his new hero. Expect him to now always wanting you to win things for him. So far he had no luck with me. I’m terrible at these games.”, she shrugs. They continue to wander aimlessly over the fair as an uncomfortable silence befalls them. There are many couples at the fair. They’re giggling and holding hands. They’re posing for artists to sketch them and sharing dango with one another.
“What a beautiful couple! You two look like you would like to have a memory of this wonderful day together!”, a salesman chants from the side. Awkwardly Yoriichi mumbles “No, thank you.” but either the salesman overheard him or pretend to not have heard them. Either way, he comes up from behind (y/n) and Yoriichi and pulls them toward their stand. “You see, we make candles in the shape of your hands. A perfect memory and a perfect decoration for your home. Let’s perpetuate your hands, lovebirds!”, he explains. By then, both (y/n) and Yoriichi are too shy and too embarrassed to explain that they do not want a candle, especially not if it means holding hands. Before either of them can gather the courage to speak up and tell the vendor no, he already prepared the molding paste and looks at them expectingly. Awkwardly, Yoriichi extends his hand and (y/n) grabs it lightly. The vendor pulls their hands forward and sticks them into the paste. “You’ll have to wait a while until the paste thickens. It’s best to look into each other’s eyes while waiting and enjoying the moment.”, the salesman muses. Yoriichi tries to look anywhere but (y/n)’s eyes. However, nothing holds his attention but the feeling of (y/n)’s soft warm hand in his. The moment feels like forever and not in the way that you don’t want it to end. Eventually, the vendor carefully pulls out their joined hands and (y/n) and Yoriichi watch how the mold gets filled with red wax. Once the wax hardened, (y/n) awkwardly takes the candle and gives the vendor the money they owe him.
It’s gotten pretty late by the time, the two of them decide to look for (y/s/n) to start their way back home. While walking and shouting for the boy, (y/n) takes a moment to look at the candle. Her hand looks significantly smaller in comparison to Yoriichi’s hand. While the whole situation was uncomfortable and unwanted, (y/n) decides that she actually did not find it bad holding Yoriichi’s hand. Eventually, they find the children behind a booth playing their card game. After they’ve collected the boy and (y/n)’s cart, they start walking home. The sun is already starting to set as they reach the outskirt of the forest. Yoriichi rushes them a bit so that they arrive at the cottage before nightfall. He also keeps a close look on (y/s/n) who tries to run ahead again. Yoriichi calls out for the boy who immediately comes back, grabbing Yoriichi’s hand and hugging his pig happily. Yoriichi is surprised by the boy’s action but he also has to admit to himself that it gives him a warm feeling in his chest. (Y/n) pretends to not have seen the scene, but can’t help to smile in secret at the two of them. Maybe this whole marriage thing was indeed a good idea, even if it’s just for (y/s/n).
Once they arrive home, (y/s/n) is so tired that (y/n) immediately takes him to bed. Before going to bed themselves, (y/n) and Yoriichi have a cup of tea outside of the cottage. This time comfortable silence stands between them. Even if they don’t want to admit it yet, they both enjoyed the day together. Even the candle found its way on top of one of (y/n)’s shelves in the living room.
