Okay, so this is basically a follow up post to all the thoughts I had about season 2 the night before the first ep aired. You’re welcome to read it if you wish but I’ll let you know that it’s a mess and does contain manga spoilers. If you don’t wanna that’s perfectly fine, but the main thing I rambled on about was the possible episode count for season 2 and where in the story this season will end.

I’ll try to give a short version of that post now though. I was certain that we would get 24eps for the second season when it was first announced, especially due to the large gap of time in between when S1 ended and when S2 was originally going to start. I believed that a 24ep season would end at ch101, right before the two-year time skip. But then 2020 happened. Anime series got delayed and Cloverworks also has two other series premiering this January alongside TPN. So I thought another 12ep season was reasonable. Though if they wanna split up a 24ep season and give us the second cour over the summer I’d be perfectly fine with that too. The only reason why I had trouble wrapping my head around a 12ep season was.. where in the hell were they planning to end it? I had several ideas, which I mentioned in my other post with little more detail, but ch60, ch64, and ch74 were some of my guesses. Of course I would love to see Goldy Pond animated but with a 12ep season, I had my doubts. S1 adapted 37 chapters and if S2 were to at least reach ch96 then that would be the next 59 chapters, which seemed a bit much at first. Then came the issue with starting the possible next season with the time skip and eh, the idea didn’t sit well with me?

But now, after seeing the second season’s OP and first episode, I’m honestly reconsidering my original guess of ending at ch101, even if we get 12eps. Let’s start with the OP first. While it’s completely beautiful and I already love “Identity” with all my heart and soul, a couple things really stand out, some more obvious than not.

First off, Peter appears. His debut chapter is 73.

Then we get this shot of Phil, who doesn’t show up again until ch100.

Next up is Emma’s braid & hair-clips. Along with her fantastic Goldy Pond outfit, the clips first appear in ch75. However, she receives three from Sandy: blue, yellow & green. Not only is the blue clip missing, but her hair is now braided. This style didn’t appear until ch102.

Ch102 is.. post-time skip, which surprises me? I honestly never thought we would get a glimpse of that this season. Unless it’s an error perhaps? This other shot has Emma with the two clips & braided hair, but then you would think Ray would have his scarf here too, right? Neither of them look much older either.. maybe the anime just decided to go with two clips instead of three? I dunno.

But then you have Anna’s hair which is significantly longer here... which I’m pretty sure isn’t until post-time skip? I doubt it grew that long in between the events of Goldy Pond and the Cuvitidala search, since it was only what..5? 6 months? I tried to spot her during the ch102 flashbacks but didn’t see her, so pretty sure this is post.

And then we also see Yvette wearing her goggles, which also shows up post-time skip. Well, she actually obtains them mid-time skip, because there’s flashbacks of her with them in ch102, but also one that shows her without them that happens around July/August 2046.

I’m not trying to say that just because the OP shows us some future scenes/people/changes that we’ll actually reach that far this season. It would be nice, sure, but they could just be teasing us too. I know this is a minor detail and it shouldn’t prove much of anything, but they did give us real small cameos of Michelle & Olivia in the first ending, “Zettai Zetsumei,” and yet we didn’t see them in the flashback in s1ep10. 

So now I’m still on the fence a little bit. I mentioned before that I would love for Cloverworks to expand on the Cuvitidala search during the two year time skip, but would that work better at the very end of a season or at the start of one? Who knows.

Speaking of seasons, the first episode of this one? Can you believe we’re already at ch45? I knew all the action would go by at an alarming fast pace, compared to the dialogue heavy S1, but damn. And that was with some of the added anime scenes! Granted, they also heavily changed the snakes of alvapinera and took out Isabella’s scene from ch38 completely but.. yeah. Although, I’m seriously hoping they include her scene at some point in the future? Because how could you forget this wonderful woman? I’m grateful they gave us that quick glimpse of her in the OP (with her hair down still! so i thank the anime staff for that at least!) but come on.. I was really looking forward to seeing her again, darn it.

One thing I’m sure about is that we’re reaching shelter B06-32 and seeing our favorite father figure because, hello.. the shelter jackets!

Speaking of the geezer, I was also actively looking for him throughout the OP, but had no such luck. I saw some people think he appears in the above mentioned screenshot, I think? but I counted 15 heads, so I believe it’s just the GF escapees here. Why everyone else is wearing them aside from only Emma & Ray.. I have no clue, but they all look nice!

Also, that screenshot got me thinking (as if i didn’t just do a whole bunch of that again already) more about Goldy Pond at the OP itself. While the opening sequence didn’t currently give us any large hints that arc will happen anytime soon, I could see Cloverworks updating it to incorporate the many characters that have yet to make an appearance. I think these two shots could easily be changed by replacing the escapees with the GP Resistance and showing the poachers instead of the wild demons.

Not only there, but any other group shot could work out too. Of course “Identity” would stick around as the song (because it’s an absolute banger) since I don’t see any point in having it last less than 12eps? Yes I know, S1 switched up the ending songs and “Lamp” only showed up for 3eps, but shhh.

Anyways, that’s enough out of me. (also r.i.p to all the extra pages i hoped would get animated. no such luck so far because the anime seems to be flying by like hayato.)

“Aw, c’mon Mistah Steel. You can hardly be someone’s arm candy if you look like he’s just fished you out of the garbage,” Rita says reasonably, shoving Juno with surprising strength onto her bunk. He lands with a light oof and looks up at her balefully. 

It’s not that he’s completely adverse to the idea of dressing up for a heist. And really, it’s for a heist, so he can hate it if he wants to. But putting himself on display, at least pretending to have to desire to be seen… the thought makes every one of his cells grimace. 

At least when he looks like he’s “just been fished out of the garbage” no one looks at him like he’s for public consumption. 

“I don’t see how, out of the two of us, I’m the one that got pulled to be arm candy, anyway,” Juno says to Peter, who is holding two eyeshadow palettes out for inspection before tossing one back into the frankly alarmingly large makeup caddy. 

“Don’t sell yourself short, Juno,” Peter says, folding his long body onto a low stool and cupping Juno’s jaw as he applies primer to Juno’s skin. “But, if you want the truth, it’s because one of us needs to be a distraction and one of us needs to be a pickpocket. And I’ve just got a bit of a lighter touch than you.” The corrective makeup all belongs to Rita, who is definitely closer to Juno’s color than Peter, and he applies it with that light touch of his. 

Rita tears through a pile of clothes in a box that Buddy had supplied, as if they have an entire costume closet Juno isn’t aware of while Peter brushes gentle strokes of pale pink and shimmering purple eye shadow onto Juno’s eyelid. 

Stupidly, Juno feels like he might cry, which is usually how he reacts to tender touch. Still, he suppresses the urge, as it would be a shame to ruin all of Peter’s hard work, and focuses instead on the outfit Rita is compiling behind Peter. Usually, Juno’s outfits consist of a maximum of three layers. Underwear, shirt and pants, his coat. Sometimes, he doesn’t wear underwear if he’s fallen behind on laundry. 

There are definitely more than three layers of clothing on Juno’s bed. 

“Open your mouth,” Peter says, pulling Juno out of his thoughts. The lipstick Peter is holding is nearly black and slightly glittery. Juno opens is mouth and rubs his lips together on instinct after it’s been applied. 

“This feels weird,” Juno says as Peter fixes stolen blood diamond earrings to his ears and steps back to survey his work. He is dressed a bit more plainly than usual, just a dark green suit which complements his light silver eyeliner. 

“Oh, boss, you look great! Like you’re a star,” Rita trills, an edge of jealousy to her voice. She hates being cooped up so much, but most of the jobs they run now rely heavily on her sitting behind a monitor or with her nose in a comms. “Now take your clothes off.” 

Juno can’t help it. “Rita, you know I’m a taken lady. I never knew you felt that way.” 

Rita retches dramatically, hitting him on the shoulder in retaliation. Juno changes into Rita’s outfit for him, requiring more help than he feels strictly comfortable with. It’s a sheer shirt that shows off the gold body chains Rita threatens him into wearing, dark pants that fit like a second skin, a leather chest harness looking thing (Juno blushes at the implications, but Peter insists it’s the height of fashion on Neptune) a velvet jacket, and wedged boots. The boots contain knives and several lock picking devices hidden in the wedges, which makes Juno feel better about the practicality of it. 

They’ve even found him a shiny, polished leather eyepatch. 

Juno stands with his hands up while Rita blows on his nails in a way that probably isn’t really helpful, but smiles at the way Peter is looking at him. Maybe he doesn’t like feeling as though he’s free for the public to gawk at, but Peter can look at him with that expression of appreciation in his eyes as much as he wants. 

“You’re incredible,” Peter tells him and Juno shrugs, rather than flounder for a response to the compliment. 

“I wish I was going with you,” Rita complains, shattering the moment. “It would be just like one of my streams, the femme fatale diving right into the den of the enemy! Who are secretly robots! And she has to fight her way out with nothing but her wits and her earrings that shoot lasers!” She makes accompanying sound effects, waving her arms around as she follows them to the loading dock of the ship. 

“We’ll tell you all about it when we get back, Rita. Just watch the security for us,” Juno says placatingly and she sighs. 

Peter opens the door of the RUBY7 for Juno, saying, “My lady,” and making Juno snort before driving them toward the glittering city in the distance.

Regina’s friendship VS Killian’s love  - Part 1

I hate it when people try to tell me CS is toxic and abusive yet ship Emma with a woman that has often belittled her. I get Hook was a villain. But even as a villain, he believed in her. And now as a changed man, I can’t fathom ANYONE being more supportive of Emma.

Lets start out reviewing just how *great* of a friend Regina is after she is supposedly redeemed.

Regina is emotionally abusive to Emma

Season 5 - Using the dagger on her

This has got to be one of the most sickening episodes between Emma and Regina.

During the scene at Merlin’s tree (5x02), Regina takes away Emma’s agency when King Arthur asks who the savior is. Regina stops Emma from answering then assumes her identity. It’s cloaked in a “I did it for you” dialog but her body language and actions suggest otherwise.

However, you can’t ignore fact. And fact is, Regina liked controlling Emma. She didn’t even apologize for it.

Regina: Shut up and listen! Emma: ::struggles to speak:: Regina: Oh I could get used to this.

Her response to Emma’s distress was “whatever”. Regina showed 0 sympathy that her actions, whether incidental or not, were hurting Emma. She simply didn’t care because she was enjoying it.

Thank goodness the woman didn’t become the Dark One. They’d all have been dead by now.

Then the most sickening part of all was when Emma had to thank her for her abuse. And then *truly* thank Regina for her abuse.

Regina sure let her stolen identity as the savior go to her head super quick, didn’t she? REGINA is going to figure everything out, eh? But hey, this is the woman who views Emma as a waste of an ability so what else do you expect?

Regina: I can use the dagger to make you do this, but I’m not. I’m asking you!

So if Emma refused, she would have used the dagger on Emma which could have the real possibility of sending her over the edge and into darkness? Interesting...

This is basically emotional blackmail.

Regina was ready to use force. She was actually going to use the dagger on Emma despite already knowing how much being controlled distresses her.

Killian refused to let the dagger be used on Emma.

Killian: We can’t do that. This has to be her choice.

Truth be told, he didn’t need to use the dagger. His love for her reached her. His belief in her reached through the darkness. He didn’t need force. He used love.

Season 6 - torturing Emma

Killian went to NYC to help Emma regain her memories. He attempted a true love kiss (just like Charming did, by the way) which didn’t work (neither did Charming’s). So what did he do? He opened up to her, he let Emma see who he was. Told her to use her super power. And it worked. And he didn’t need to murder her parents in cold blood.

Regina on the other hand murders Emma’s parents right in front of her.

It was cruel. Also, Regina just got to live out one of her life’s goals; she got to kill the Charmings in cold blood.

The fact that Emma THANKED Regina for that is absolutely horrifying. But that’s the one problem with Emma. For the sake of Henry, she has stopped standing up to Regina. And that is SAD.

Also she murdered Wish Snowing for no reason. I thought she was supposed to be redeemed? Mmmmhmm.

Season 4 - Bring out power

Killian has brought out her magic through love. Regina nearly killed her on a bridge.

Season 3 & 4 - Using Henry

Season 3 incident is with Pan masquerading as Henry. Regina refuses to acknowledge Emma’s worries (which turns out to be true - this is touched on more below).

But in S4, Regina actually refuses to let Emma take care of Henry when Regina knows Emma is immune to the curse. Emma would in fact be his best chance since Regina was about to return to her mass murdering ways. But hey, no one argues with Regina, right? Even while she’s undermining Emma’s capabilities!

Regina is verbally abusive

Season 1 - Can’t even accept Emma saving her life.

Regina: Set me down gently!

Season 3 - Henry/Pan

Emma: I know. He just doesn’t seem quite himself. Regina: Really? You mean because he asked for me? Emma: No, I didn’t. I didn’t mean- Regina: That’s exactly what you meant. You cant face the fact that I am his mother too. And maybe, just maybe, he wants me when he’s frightened. You forget - I have ten years of soothing his nightmares under my belt. He’s fine. Emma: It’s not about you, Regina, I just have a gut feeling. Regina: Well, maybe you can use that gut feeling to find the Shadow instead of obsessing over who’s going to comfort our son.

Regina’s first instinct is to lash out at Emma instead of listening to her. Her jealousy almost caused all of them to lose their lives to Peter Pan.

Season 4 - Marian

Regina: Ms. Swan, what an unpleasant surprise

Regina: I’ve been busy working on Marian, on the problem you created.

Regina: You’re never thinking of consequences

Regina: You’ve never had my back

Regina: Seems like the savior needs saving these days

Emma: I’m an idiot Regina: Finally something we can agree on

Regina: Does it matter if I mind? If I say no, you’ll just come anyway.

Regina: And then what? Complimenting my outfits? Giving me a makeover? Braiding my hair? Calling Robin Hood and hanging up? You’re trying to win me over so I can assuage your guilt intentionally or not, Ms. Swan, you brought Marian back. You ruined my life. And there is no coming back from that.

Emma did not know who she was bringing back from the Enchanted Forest. The only thing she was concerned about was saving a woman’s life. Regina? She could care less about a woman’s life because it inconvenienced her.  Funny, this life that Emma saved was a life Regina was about to snuff out (and did in the original timeline) and happened to be married to Regina’s boyfriend. Even funnier, Regina was looking for ways to have Marian killed again but gave up because it would look too obvious.

Regina’s redemption is a joke.

Because I know you think you didn’t mean to, but you hurt someone. So do as I do and learn to live with it. Welcome to my world.

She dares compare her murderous rampages that caused the death of women and children to that of Emma “breaking her heart."

What is more important here? A woman’s life or Regina’s broken heart? Apparently Regina believes her broken heart matters more. Spoken like the true evil queen that she is.

By the way, Killian would have never agreed with Emma about being an idiot. Because our Killian has never put Emma down. Even sadder, Emma was trying to be Regina’s friend.

Funny how Regina never stopped to think about the consequences for Emma when she begged her to save Robin’s life. But Regina is above consequences. Isn’t she? However, she is all about tearing Emma down for decisions she’s made.

She BEGGED Emma to save Robin.  But when it came time to save Killian? Would Regina show any support for Emma? No. Not a bit!

Season 5 - Hypocrite

Regina: You’re just saying that because you feel bad about ripping her heart (Violet’s) out in Camelot.

First she has to throw something Dark One Swan did that would release Merlin from the tree, something that also hurt Emma. Why isn’t all of the things Regina did to Henry (which were ten times worse) ever thrown back in her face? What right does she have really?

But lets look at what prompts her to verbally attack Emma.

Emma knows about Henry and Violet’s song. Regina doesn’t. Henry has flourished under Emma’s parenting. He was able to make friends in NY whereas in Storybrooke with Regina he had zero and now he’s able to talk about his teenage crushes with Emma. Not Regina.

Why is that, you think?

Because Emma is always supporting Henry & was encouraging his relationships with others whereas Regina has selfishly wanted Henry to “be mine” as she would always say.

Just look how pissed Regina is at witnessing her teenage son kissing his girlfriend.

Whose the better mom again? But I digress. EvilRegal is just as abusive as SwanQueen.

Season 5 episode 22

Emma: He tried to wipe the search history clean. Luckily I can get it back. Regina: I won’t hold my breath

Once again, you’d never hear Killian Jones doubting Emma Swan’s capabilities.

People claim this is just Regina’s “sass”. Except her sass isn’t said out of jest. She truly means it. She’s rude and obnoxious. It was funny back when she was a villain but she isn’t supposed to be that person anymore.

Regina belittles Emma’s relationships

A good is supportive. Regina? Not so much.

Regina: And you think it’s the best plan because your boyfriend came up with it?

Every time Regain has referred to Killian as Captain Guyliner.

Or made fun of his disability

The time she wanted to rip his throat out.

Regina is physically abusive

Regina tried to murder Emma as a baby.

Influenced Sydney to try to murder Emma.

Regina tried to kill her with an apple.

Regina tried to kill Emma, the Charmings and the rest of the town in season 2.

Oh wait, I can’t use references from S1 & S2 when Regina wasn’t redeemed but you can of villain Hook & DO Hook? Leave your hypocrisy at the door. Thanks.

Season 4 - Shattered Sight

She was technically cursed but her true feelings for Emma were once again revealed.

Weren’t those bracelets bound by true love? Hmmm.

Regina would destroy her own friend’s life

Regina: Yeah, there's one problem with that. I did cast a curse that devastated an entire population. I have tortured and murdered. I've done some terrible things. I should be overflowing with regret, but... I'm *not*. Because it got me my son.

So basically, despite being Emma’s bestie, Regina would orphan Emma all over again and destroy her life all for her own personal gain.

What an awesome friend! Where can I find one?
