i saw your tags on the reply post to the anon ask where you mentioned how at some point there were a lot of sylki baby fics and you didn't read them,

and i have to say, same. like, i think it's great if one wants to write/read the baby stuff, but from some point on, it seemed like ONLY the baby stuff was being written for sylki, which kind of turned my off from the fandom.

again, it's 100% okay to write/read the baby stuff, but i feel like sylki has a potential for more... versatility in fanon? idk, whatever it is, your tags validated my own thoughts bc i felt like if i said anything about it i would be kicked out of the fandom (i knew at least two sylkis who were ganged up by other shippers for saying that they didn't see sylvie's journey being satisfyingly completed by having loki's babies).

anyways, i definitely do not try to start this drama all over again. i'd just say, write/read as many baby fics as you want to, but it would be nice if there were more sylki fics that weren't all about sylvie's pregnancy and babies...

that's about when i stopped regularly checking the tag on AO3, i must admit. I *think* there was a babyfic challenge somewhere - maybe a Discord server? - but they didn't seem to all be from that, it was like a sudden trend hit, wasn't it?

i have myself written sylki baby fic but it followed my own interests with it in that it mostly didn't have actual baby/pregnancy stuff in it, i was just trying to cause problems for them LOL. though it's not a topic i am that into generally, regardless of pairing. a lot of people are though and indeed That Is Fine! most of the time i've never thought anything either way about the amount of sylki babyfic, just for a while there it seemed to dominate for some reason.

and surprisingly little of it involved either a) the myth-'canon' stuff where Lokis have weird monster-babies or b) the hilarious vexing question of whether the child of two Lokis is itself a Loki. And if you combine those two you can blame the monster-babies on them being the same person - it practically writes itself!

i think for me domestic fic is like Mundane* AU fic - it's v popular and there's (obviously) nothing wrong with it, but it's just not what I am into so when there are brief floods of either of that sort of thing I just end up skipping a lot of stuff. (before anyone complains about me complaining - i didn't like so i didn't read, which is exactly what one should do in such a situation. SO THERE.) i generally am more into Canon Divergence for AUs, which might just be cos i mostly into sci-fi canons fannishly so when every SF element is removed in fic I am then less interested? maybe? and of course many sylki AUs just lack the selfcest aspect - oh no!!!

(*i don't mean Mundane in a value-judgement way, that just seems like the best term for the sort of AU that's modern day/real world settings which lean towards Very Normal things like coffee shops and academia and Sylvie working in a McDonalds retail work & the like. if there's a well-accepted alternative pls let me know, thnx.)

Furries.

i can take a snapshot from any formative point in my life and point to furries as a positive influence.

furries were for a very long time the only people i could talk to without feeling like i was about to put a foot wrong and be brutally ostracised from a social group. no matter who i was talking to, if they were a furry on the internet, they were kind to me and assumed i was trying my best. no "group" (loose term) ever gave me the benefit of the doubt like that so easily or so consistently even among strangers. i don't know who i'd be if i didn't discover furries and make myself a part of that. being a furry helped me learn to trust other human beings and socialise openly when my IRL life gave me absolutely no faith at all.

but!!! for the creative aspect!!! basically!!!

being a furry killed the cringe police in my head. being a furry made my anxiety tameable when creating. being a furry encouraged me to be creative and weird and not worry too much about what strangers might think or say. being a furry made me stronger and more aloof and gave me thicker skin and helped me recognise when "man, this creative endeavour is wasted on this particular crowd, i don't need to keep trying to impress [Group A], i need to go find [Group B], they'll appreciate this much better".

you ask any individual furry who says they're doing worldbuilding for a personal project and they'll keep you rapt for hours with how much thought they put it. and often it's just to play in the space. i learned i can do anything i want and invent any setting i want and theorycraft however i want about my characters, and as long as i'm having fun with it, it's never a waste of time.

furries encouraged me to be creative and social. the experience of being a furry kind of built me brick by brick from the ground up, in a way. so i guess that's a huge and important place to point to when talking about inspiration??

it's possible my emotions are a little louder and the peaks/troughs kind of exaggerated by things like ADHD hyperarousal and RSD and stuff like that, so when i feel emotions about things i feel them very hard and sometimes it can be a little bit scary how absolutely full-bodied they are. but this also means that when i read fiction that hits me in the gut, i feel like i'm having my naked soul bared to a live wire. like that scene in Voyage Of The Dawntreader where aslan peels eustace like an onion. and i want to make other people feel that way, feel something of how i feel, by telling stories.

of course having adhd also makes it bullshit hard to finish anything or get those stories told so you could say it's my biggest inspiration as well as my biggest kick in the teeth of a fucking setback. but there u go. yknow.

um, on a quicker and more general note: fantasy and sci-fi. things that are aspirational and impossible and explore what-ifs and take you out of mundane life and put you somewhere else, at the core of an adventure you could never dream of having in real life. populated by people (sometimes creatures, but still people, characters) who feel deeply and form bonds and explore the human experience under a completely different lens whoops i'm talking about the human experience again

High School Movie Watch: Bottoms (2023) Watched:  01/19/2024 Format:  Prime Viewing:  First Director:  Emma Seligman Selection:  Me Pal AmyC had rec'd this one broadly to facebook over the summer, and I'd been curious.  And since, I'd heard in drips and drabs that this movie was really funny, but I didn't know anything about it other than "it's a high school comedy, but not like that".  And, honestly, I'm gonna pause you here and say: go in cold on this one, because if you know anything ahead of time, you're doing yourself a disservice.  Just go check it out I'll also throw in:  I want to re-watch this almost immediately, because (a) it was really solid, and (b) I know I missed about 1/4th of the jokes because there's weird little visual things all over the place and throw-away lines left and right that are hysterical.   So, what is it? I've noted through my old podcast series on high school movies, that the movies about high school that *feel* like high school to me are the ones that exist in some heightened reality that's reflecting back the experience like a funhouse mirror.  I don't really mean, like, wacky high school hang movies, but, say Heathers or Brick.  Movies that soak in the absurdity of being a young person governed by the arbitrary rules and regs of a public school, enforced by of dubious credentials to be in charge of anyone.  And, of course, the absurdities of teen relationships, platonic as well as romantic. This falls into that category - a movie taking place in a high school where the teachers have no motivation and don't know their subject, and the only real reason school exists is to be a place where football happens (at my high school it felt like those things were band, choir and drill team, but whatevs).   Two high school senior lesbians - who are not together, but who are best friends - want to spend their senior year getting laid.  But they consider themselves unattractive and untalented, and have nothing to offer.  But as we all do, at least one of them wants to start the school year as a new person on a mission.  To get with hot chicks. Things get off to a bad start, but through their friend Hazel, who seems distracted at best and maybe not right in the head at worst, a rumor is out they spent the summer in Juvie.  Leaning on their new reputation, the girls decide to start a fight club so they can get to know hot girls.   You know, the more I try to explain it - and this is the first maybe ten minutes of the movie - the less I think I'll do it any justice.   Here's what you should know:  this movie has Marshawn Lynch as a history teacher going through a divorce.  The football players *always* wear their uniforms.  Watch the background *constantly*, because shit is happening back there.  Punky Johnson shows up for five minutes and you will wonder why SNL doesn't know what to do with her.  There's one girl in braces who made me laugh every fucking time she opened her mouth.   The movie was directed by Emma Seligman, who still isn't even thirty and this is her second feature (she's gonna be fine, I'm guessing).  She also co-wrote with star Rachel Sennott, who is hysterical. "Oh no don't come any closer!" The sound of a scream faded out as a commercial about foot cream came on.

"I think the special effects for this one might be the worst that we watched yet." Arya snorted, reaching for the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table beside her propped up feet. She shoveled a hand full straight into her mouth, wiping the greasy butter on her distressed blue jeans. They were old anyways and beside she was just hanging out with her friend, no need to feel like she should dress up.

The movie they were watching was called Night Watch 3: Return of the Night King. It was the third installment of a 1970s creature sci-fi film about a group of unlikely men who had to defend their country's border on accident from a giant ice men invasion. The musical score was lackluster, the acting left more to be desired and the grainy resolution was definitely meant to only been impressive in the time it was created.

As such Arya and Gendry had been laughing for the majority of the movie, rather than hopping into each other's arms scared. The movie was a part of a ritual created by the two, a year into their friendship after Gendry admitted he had never seen the musical slasher Sonny's Galactic Carhop.

After that they had spent every opportunity they could find to watch the worst horror movies known to man. It was also a great excuse for Arya to stay at Gendry's apartment.

"Yeah, but I would still let him kill me rather that row in a boat." Gendry laughed, his deep chuckle making her cheeks flush. They used a scale to determine how scary a lead creature was. If you'd let them kill you then you didn't find them very scary, but the most terrifying one that they ever watched was a 1990s film where the protagonist not only got turned into the monster but he also decided the only way he could make anything safe was to essentially drink poison and row out in a boat to an undisclosed location. It was such an anticlimactic and weirdly traumatizing movie that they now use it as the highest scale of heck no in ratings.

"I don't know," Arya shrugged, "I'd still rather be beheaded in the Town Square."

Gendry turned his body towards her. "That's because you have no taste. No one wants to watch their loved one, no matter the monster, be killed that way."

Arya laughed scooting closer, "You don't know what you're talking about. That killing could have started a whole catalyst of things."

"No."

"Yes huh, You're just an idiot." She could feel his breath ghosting across their shared space. If he wanted to kiss her, he could, right?

"Well if I'm such an idiot, why are you over here?" Gendry questioned, legs almost touching her on the couch. Arya flushed, looking away. Her best friend was looking at her with that weird stare he had. She still couldn't place why it made her heart flutter faster.

"Don't flatter yourself, You bull! I just came over to make sure you knew the difference between the light switch and the the garbage disposal."

Gendry began to open his mouth but Arya shushed him, turning back to their feature film. She was happy for the distraction. Their closeness was distracting her. She'd told herself she wouldn't entertain the concept of dating either him. He didn't seem like he was interested anyway. They lapsed back into a comfortable commentary until another commercial came on.

"So," Gendry started, propping his elbow up on the couch and completely shifting his body to face her. "What is the reason you're actually here?"

"What do you mean?" Arya began to pick at the rips in her jeans.

"It's Valentine's night and you're spending it watching creature features with me. Couldn't get Ned to ask you out like a man?"

"No." Arya rolled her eyes. She didn't get why Gendry said Ned's name with bitterness. It wasn't like she was in love with her on and off again boyfriend.

"Ned and I are through. We have been for a while." The silence that descended after that was deafening.

"What did he do?" The man before her growled, his indignation clear in his voice.

"It wasn't him. I cut things off. I didn't want to be with him anymore. Besides I'm here because I needed to be out of the house. Sansa was planning something weird with Theon and on a normal day they make me want to gag. I can't imagine what our apartment looks like now."

Gendry got up, "Yeah it's proabably crazy."

"I bet there's mood lighting." She snorted.

"And romantic petals everywhere." Some shuffling was heard from behind her.

"Right"

Gendry chuckled from the kitchen. "And an assortment of her favorite food laid out because he knows her so well."

He placed a bowl of clam pasta next to apples dipped in caramel and some chicken.

"What are you-" Arya looked at Gendry, "When did you-" She was shocked. All these were her favorites, especially the clams.

"Hot Pie had a hot date and left his leftovers on the counter. You want any?" He shrugged not making eye contact with her.

"Of course." She grabbed an assortment of everything, munching happily.

"I can't believe Hot Pie's new girlfriend almost has the same food taste as I do. She is one lucky girl to have a guy cook all this food for her, right?"

Gendry paused looking at her before nodding. "Yeah, she is."

1. first time with bondage. alec ties magnus up and ravishes him. fun is had all around. this is the sexytimes one but there’s a hint of like.... Romance(TM) bc bondage is all about that trust and intimacy, and like, alec is amazed magnus trusts him this much, with magic-suppressing (not cutting him off or anything, and there’s still a safety protocol to get out without alec’s help, but still) ties or whatever, that magnus is letting alec see him so vulnerable, letting alec take care of him.... uwu 

2. they try like, roleplay and dressing up for the first time, but shenanigans are had and they both get way too into character. like maybe maid magnus is like *dodging alec trying to cop a feel* “wait let me dust this annoying top shelf i have the duster out and i keep FORGETTING” “babe you could just use magic if you w--” “i have the duster right here!!!” or like they’re doing the whole rival mob bosses thing but they keep doing banter and improving ridiculous businesses the other is infringing on/wants to get involved in (”you wanna get in on the... raccoon smuggling ring?” *muffling laughter* “....yes. love those....trash bandits”) and it’s a little silly but in the most fun and ridiculous way. 

alternatively, they keep trying to be serious but bursting into giggles and/or just generally being way more lovey dovey than the scene calls for. like, alec is supposed to be his strict boss “punishing” him but he keeps kissing magnus really tenderly and calling him my love. magnus is not helping. 

3. angst angst angst. or, more accurately, hurt/comfort. something goes wrong when trying out a new kink, magnus ends up not having a fun time, maybe he has to safeword or literally just something goes wrong (like the safety thing on his cuffs fails and he panics and obviously alec immediately lets him out but still Bad) and alec probably feels bad about it/blames himself and it’s bad times. but whatever happens they end up relocating to the couch and just like. cuddling with ice cream or some other treat, maybe watching a movie that they inevitably ignore to cuddle and probably talk about it and by the end of the night they’re as strong as ever and all comfy snuggled with each other, issue resolved, both parties thoroughly comforted 

or even if you wanna go less angsty they both just sort of. realize they’re not really into this kink halfway through and it’s like . “...should we stop?” and they end up stopping but they’re both just lying there like “hm. that was weird” and it’s a little awkward and they both are kinda like. hm. was that my fault? should i have just kept going? it’s not like i HATED it, but.... so it’s kinda this weird guilt thing, like, oh... i ruined our night.... but then they talk or just generally realize how kinda silly the whole situation is and end up just like. laughing together and they kiss and are like ok we can take that one off the list i guess lmao and that’s the end of that. communication kings

4. im running out of “genres” as im saving the designated fluff one for the end, and the ones i can think of (parody, salt, tragedy, friendship, or like. what, mystery? sci fi?) don’t necessarily work. well i suppose you could do friends, like i mean, they are best friends, which is why they’re such good husbands, maybe they’re like. mutually geeking out about something and end up incorporating it into a needlessly convoluted kink thing?? or like. fuck ok i give up on the genres thing, the last two are just going to be like the others

hm, maybe they try something really weird/embarrassing, and either like. they try it as like, kinda half as a joke, but then they’re both really into it and after are like “well. that happened” “.....” “......” “.....” “.....wanna do it again?” “hell yes” 

or like, they’re doing it because they’re interested and  you know, neither of them are judgmental, so that’s fine, but then like. it’s just that like kinda self conscious awkwardness at first? but they’re so comfy with each other it doesnt take long to get the hang of it and they end up having a lot of fun. 

5. i dont know why so many of these are “and something went wrong” i guess bc in post form im not writing out the full porn so much as fun concepts? i dont know. anyway, they decide to have fun with aphrodisiacs/an artificial heat, but accidentally overdo it a bit and end up fucking for like a day straight with very few breaks. well, not straight but--[i am booed off the stage]

MOB PSYCHO 100 I [99 - Mob Choir]

I always thought this was some uninteresting anime, and well I was totally wrong. The animation is AWESOME, the story is really cool and explores some interesting perspectives about life that other shonen (or seinen?) ignore. It has a different style, it's kinda plain at times (and this might be good because it avoids unnecessary complexity) but in my opinion, much better than some popular animes of the moment. I feel it's very original, and stays as part of my top 10 manga/animes too.

FULL METAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD [Again - YUI]

This might be my favorite song. If I ever fall in a coma, try to wake me up with it, I'm sure it will work. I might be biased because this is the first anime I watched (when I didn't care about these kind of series) and I love it, and it's definitely my favorite (I was lucky to be gifted the first volume in japanese). The melody is calm and the lyrics are heart touching. FMA is a manga and anime you should add to your watch/read list without a doubt. Sharing short version of the song to find the channel of the artist.

BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA [The day - Porno Grafitti]

I will never regret being on the bus playing this song on my phone (with headphones) being seen by people who would think something about the name of the band (like listening to anime openings almost every day wasn't already a weird thing). None of the other songs of BNHA surpassed the greatness of this song IMO.

About it, even though it gets criticism I think it's a good story, and I feel it can be incredibly creative at times - there's a reason why it's so popular after all. I should also remark that it pays attention to a lot of characters, secondary or villains have good development (something that I haven't seen in other shonen or they fail to do it, and remember BNHA has A LOT of characters).

This story is definitely going to be long, I think it's close to reach its first half, expect probably 70 volumes or so.

NARUTO [Kanashimi Wo Yasashisa Ni - Little by Little]

Wait? WHAT? Did you really pick this opening over Silhouette? I mean, no offense to Silhouette and the fantastic band KANA-BOON, but I've listened to it so many times (best memes lol), and I already didn't have it as my favorite. There are other openings that I love (Naruto Shippuden this time): 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 14, 15 (Guren is the best one IMO), 16, 17, 20.

You didn't watch Naruto? Then what are you doing here? It's a must watch! It's a shonen with beautiful messages, inspiring characters, and this song probably embodies one positive vibe of the story - best part "the most important things are those without any shape".

PSYCHO PASS [Abnormalize - ling tosite sigure]

This anime is definitely in my favorite list, I feel it's the best seinen I've watched. Its manga is an adaptation, but the original story is the one that's animated. Some people say that season 2 and 3 aren't as good as the first and honestly it's hard to do something more brilliant than the incredible season 1, nonetheless you would miss the progress of the story and interesting characters if you only leave at the first one.

It reaches some philosophical thoughts that not all sci-fi can explore on the same way. Don't expect it to be an easy watch though - you better click pause to understand every dialogue.

SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN [Shinzou wo sasageyo - Linked Horizon]

Yeah, the first opening is AMAZING, but I might have a thing for 2nd openings. I must say that the synchronization of the scenes don't make justice for the melody of this song, though. Attack on Titan might reach the top 5 best shonen (is it shonen anyways?) anime/manga of all time.

I saw everyone talking about it and praising it, so I decided to watch the first episode and I couldn't get through it because of its disturbing art LMAO. My eye is accustomed to other kind of art, but I have to say I WAS TOTALLY WRONG. Good thing the second time I watched it I felt comfortable and discovered not only a mind-blowing story, but yeah, its animation is fantastic (take a peek at a few YT videos showing the process on the making of Levi's scenes). I only follow the manga to be updated, and I'm bad at recognizing characters, but you won't waste time or money by giving this one a chance.

THE PERFECT INSIDER [Talking - KANA BOON]

I tell you, this is a list of favorite openings, it doesn't mean I've watched all the anime, but I'm going to do it thanks to these fantastic songs, and KANA BOON deserved a mention. Also known as "Subete ga F ni Naru" this seinen anime is based on a novel.

MOB PSYCHO 100 II [99.9 - Mob Choir]

Wasn't this anime already on the list? No, no it's not (?) I mean, HOW CAN'T I INCLUDE THIS ONE. Fantastic. I thought I wouldn't be able to fall in love with the new opening but after listening to it twice I couldn't get it off my mind. There's a reason, well deserved reason, why it got chosen for the Crunchyroll awards...

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION [Zankoku na Tenshi no Te-ze - Yoko Takahashi/Hidetoshi Sato]

Starts with an angelic voice to a disco-like rhythm, and it's without a doubt a fantastic song. This might be the most famous opening of anime. Pay attention or watch twice if you want to understand the story, though.

If I'm in a coma and the song Again didn't work, then this one will wake me up FOR SURE. I love how it embodies the angst of the story, the tragedy, the bad luck of the protagonist. I recommend to read the manga instead of keeping too loyal to the anime - it's no surprise that SP messed up with the storytelling of another manga... Did I say how hard it must be to play it on the piano? Or even sing it?

Hi. 💙 Anyway, I hate when my class ends early bc I have to wait around for a bit. Yeah, I read it too. I think she's stopped writing now. I didn't take archery in school. 😊 I took cooking and had to take drama and hated it so badly because of my teacher. So, yeah we had a few grades in the same building, but each group was small and separate. You island area sounds cool it kind of reminds of the Jersey Devil folktale in the States, which I think involved the 13th child (pt 1)--

Hey! I just spent most of the day lying to myself and wasting time writing. 😊

I didn’t take cooking, but I sold crepes in 8th grade as a business project, it was a whole year thing. It was gross, I haven’t eaten a crepe since then. But it was nice to stay in the school so late, it was weird; my best friend and I would usually close up, so we were there until almost 8 pm… we had ice fights in the downstairs kitchen. The kids that sold milkshake were assholes that threw their entire bags of ice in the sink so we had to find a way to wash the dishes, and the kitchen was open and it gave to the preschool playground (so the teachers can watch the kids and make food) and yeah, we threw chunks of ice at each other. It was a blast. 😜

I love how rich the culture here is, and there are so many people who come from all around the state and the country and they never care to get to know it, so a lot of things are sort of being forgotten, it’s a little sad.

I was given a bacon one by the mean rich girls from my school, I think it was 6th grade, back when they started selling on Disney or something. It was awful. I do that of eating the coating first with these blackberry-gummy thingies, they have like sprinkles and I take them off first, also a chocolate with caramel inside that I forgot the name.

Okay, but like, I’d probably be full on Hermione, loving every single class and trying to get as many as possible, because I just like knowing things. Like, I’m terrible at actually studying and I hated school, mostly for the system and the environment, but I love knowledge. 😇

And yeah, I think you should teach kids that some things can be used to hurt them, it’s basically self-defense but “who will want to attack children?” Bad people, that’s who. And like, those children will become adults so you should give them a safe space to get the knowledge instead of just forbidding kids to even think about it but immediately expect them to know when they become adults. It’s a bit like sex-ed, you giving information that could save someone from pain and embarrassment and a lot of dangerous situations, but people think it’s ‘inciting them to start doing what they shouldn’t’.

I probably knew about the Chamber, but it’s not something I would remember to tell someone. 

Well, romanticized ancient past is great, but I would probably get bored, also how would I communicate with people without the internet? I’d have to rely on my memory and no meds… I wouldn’t be able to function. So def idealistic SciFi future.

Okay, I think you meant the kiss, right? 😜 So, what Katie said “they gave me a hot man to play with,” I think she means mostly as an actor, like play as in act alongside and have fun with. Consenting or not, from the bts pictures we’ve seen and Rahul’s tweets, I’m assuming they had fun doing the episode. That being said, my personal theory is that the kiss was after the dinner date Kara and her ‘trusted’ sidekick crashed and Kara annoyed Jack a lot and Lena took him to her office and is like, trying to calm him down or something. I think Lena is actually playing him to get information, whether it’s with or without Kara knowing that. But even so she might really care for him, or cherish what they had before, and the cuddle is her being sad that everyone in her life turns evil(?) 😢(poor bby Lena)
