I love that half the notes are people being like "no why the fuck would I do that" and half "HOLY SHIT IT IS THE SAME"
Anyway my fiance draws them differently though for the stars he does the same as me 413524 but he does his As like 14 13 52 picking up his pen in-between each time which sounds wildly inefficient to me, though he said he thinks he might have changed it when he started to learn Japanese to a stroke pattern that makes more sense for it's writing style which is very interesting.
I am still wondering if the difference is more pronounced in people who's native language doesn't have an A, if only bcs I assume you'd have learned to draw a star well before learning an A, but we'll need more data on that one to say for sure.
Wait I have polls and I can do whatever I want. Okay re: this poll
Feel free to explain your answer in the tags! I'm actually really interested in this bcs I draw my As so much like my stars that, as the first letter of my name is A, in my signature it comes out looking like a half-finished star.

Hello! I just took your star poll, and I had a question: Do you think being left-handed vs right-handed makes a difference on where you start? I'm wondering because how many people picked 413524 and the low numbers on the other options.
Or maybe it is influenced by their environment growing up - teachers' handwriting, parents, etc? I remember seeing a tiktok about homeschoolers not knowing this was a way to draw stars?
Thank you for this interesting experiment and hope you don't mind my thoughts/questions.
oh hi! Thank you for the question, I am also fascinated by my own poll lol I have to say I posted it for the fun of it, I had no idea it could turn into a mini social experiment of some sorts... had I know I would have asked people to say why they draw the star a certain way, to have some data to confront! So now I can only make theories based on what information people might share in the tags and my own experience.
Anyways, back to your question: I think it's multiple factors, really. Being right or left handed definitely influences how people start. For example, I'm right-handed and I do the 413 etc way, but I see several people who voted 314 etc (which is basically a mirror of what I do) say they are left handed.
This is by no means my original theory, I've seen people who reblogged the poll already pointing this out, but basically how we write could have an effect too. I write from left to right and the way I draw a star (starting from the bottom left going up and to the right) is also how I write my capital A's. It would be interesting if someone who writes in a language that goes right to left told us how they would draw a star, to see if it can indeed have an influence.
I do agree that environment can also be a factor! I saw several of the people who voted 524 etc say they were taught this way, some even mentioned a sort of nursery rhyme (?) that goes "make a seven, go to heaven" (I forgot the rest). I think some of the people that start at 1 do it simply because starting at the top is the most logical to them, but I wonder if they were taught this...
