I went to update something on goodreads and there's this thing on there, 'Fresh Fantasy and Sci-Fi Recommendations for (Nearly) Every Kind of Reader'
And I feel like I am the reason they had to put (Nearly) in there
#I don't like most fantasy and sci fi#and none of those sound appealing from what I can tell#though it's very difficult to tell#since people seem to be incapable of writing a simple plot synopsis any more#'from bestselling author blah blah blah' I DON'T CARE#just tell me what the damn book is about#anyway since I'd have to buy those to read them#and there's basically no such thing as cheap books any more#I do not think I will be reading most of those

Sebastian (Pressure) fluff. I need it.
"I gotta ask, do you have personal beef with those Squiddles? Because you sure like harassing them with that light of yours."
"I don't do it on purpose! If that damn Angler stopped killing the lights in every big room, maybe I could see my own hand in front of me!" You scowled up at the sea creature while standing in his humble shop.
Why was Sebastian always taunting you whenever you died to something unexpected..only to act all friendly-like in this place?
Well, you had to be grateful he was the only thing down here that wasn't trying to kill you, and that no other monsters could barge into the shop when you least expect it.
So for once, you could breathe easy..
Until he decided to remind you of those creepy squids who were somehow always in your way.
He must get a kick out of watching you perish.
"Oh of course, blame everybody except yourself." He tsked. "You have more than enough clues on how to survive each creature you encounter...but maybe they should've spoonfed all the details to you instead-"
"I don't need this from you." You huffed. "My damn hands are cramped from holding a locker shut against Pandemonium, Eyefestation gave me a killer headache, nobody bothered to tell me about the people in the walls-"
"And don't forget about those Squiddles, hehe."
Silence.
"Okay, okay. I've had my fun. I'll shut up about them now."
"Thanks. You have any medkits available?"
"Right on my tail, buddy. Hope you got enough data."
"More than enough." As your eyes surveyed the items strapped to his tail, they eventually wandered over to the desk with batteries laying out.
But it wasn't them that caught your interest, but rather the file on the table. 'How curious..is this for a monster I'm gonna meet soon?' You went over to investigate.
"Is the document for sale?"
"Wow, you might be the first to ask me about that and be able to afford it! The others before you barely had enough for a flashlight." Sebastian chuckled, clasping his hands together. "If you're interested, give me a thousand data, and I'll have it ready for you to read when you return to the surface. And don't worry, it's all there. So I won't have to kill you to to reveal any information."
You blinked, realizing what he meant by that as you read the folder's cover and why he was asking so much for it.
Sebastian's Document
Of course, you knew he'd be recognized as a specimen, too, but to be put with Pandemonium, the Anglers, and all those other monsters that tried to eat you alive?
For some reason, it made you frown a little.
"This is your file, and they let you keep it?" You turned back to him.
"...I stole it. And I'm not gonna lie...I regret reading it." He muttered, suddenly looking a bit tense..and sad, even, although he was quick to mask any signs of vulnerability when he realized you were staring. "Anyways, it's a steep price. I'm sure you'd rather spend your assets on-"
"What if I buy it and take it off your hands right now?"
For a moment, his ear fins perked up with surprise, glowing eyes widening. But he was quick to give you a suspicious gaze. "Really? You're that nosey about my lifestory? Pretty weird if you ask m-"
"It's more of a courtesy to you."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"I mean..you look like you're carrying a heavy weight just from that folder being there. You haven't stopped looking at it since I mentioned it." You pointed out, seeing his ears twitch again. "You've always told me "out of sight, out of mind" with the Anglers. Couldn't I say the same about you and that document?"
".....using my own words against me, eh? What're you, a damn psychologist?" He teased, although his words didn't hold as much spite or sarcasm as usual. "But no, you're right. I'd rather forget about it forever. So if you want it that badly, be my guest." His third arm made a grand gesture towards the table. "Just don't get caught parading it around. And don't come crying to me when you realize you needed something else instead of-"
"I won't, trust me." You exchanged the data, taking the folder. "I'll be on my way now. I got a crystal to find."
With that, you began ducking down to renter the vent and continue your journey into the abandoned site-
"Hey."
You paused and looked back at Sebastian, tilting your head as you wondered why he seemed nervous again--wringing his hands together.
"Um..thank you, genuinely..for taking that off my hands." He cleared his throat, sweeping back his dark bangs. "I hope that whatever you find in there doesn't..get in the way of our "partnership". I'd hate to lose my number one customer."
Nodding, you gave him a reassuring smile. "You won't lose my business, Seb. That I promise."
"..now hold on we aren't THAT close to start going by nickna-" He began to snap, but you've already disappeared into the duct. "Aaaand they're gone...hmph..well..least I don't have to worry about that anymore."
Sighing, he looked around the shop, wondering what he should do now.
What you did was certainly a nice gesture.
He only hopes you'll keep your promise and not be afraid of him.

Since you wanted Halloween posts: Can you please do taking Fami trick-or-treating? I assume she'd be in it for the free food and put on the most basic costume imaginable to save energy. May sincerely go as a bedsheet ghost unless you already have one picked out and insist she wears it instead. Thanks!
You and fami going trick-or-treating
Halloween post #10
Happy Halloween!!! 🎃 👻🎉
Pairing:fami x gn reader
Summary:you knew fami loved food more than anything (except for you) so you made it a point to try to hide the existence of Halloween from her so she wouldn't get envious of the kids.......you were very right about that.
A/n:Happy Halloween, everyone! Thanks for reading my posts and all the requests. I hope you enjoyed the event, I personally loved writing it and have already planned something similar for Christmas. There's a bit of a reference to my daughter nayuta au cause I love it, and I'm actually working on part 3 now
"Why did you buy so much candy?"
Those were the words you dreaded hearing your girlfriend say with her emotionless voice
You were unsure if fami knew about the concept of Halloween, being a devil and all, so just to be safe, you tried not to mention anything about it in fear that she would feel entitled to the candies and maybe even drag you trick-or-treating.
"I mean, I appreciate you buying more food for me, but I'd like a little more variety, I'm still not complaining though"
"O-oh those.......aren't for you"
"Of course, they're for you too, we already went over this, I'll always share my food with you, especially if it's yours in the first place"
"No, I meant they're for neither of us. You can't eat any of them"
Fami looked disappointed, or at least as disappointed as she could look keeping the same face she always had
".......then who are they for?"
"I wanted to give them to the kids"
"..........why? Their parents can get them candies"
"...w-well they're probably gonna come here and ask us"
"Why?"
You knew lying to fami would have been useless since she could read people very well, especially you, so you just sighed and told her the truth, preparing for whatever was about to happen
"I see, Halloween is when kids dress up and ask for candies to random houses, ah, i think Yoshida mentioned something about this a few days ago"
"Yeah, so you can't eat the candy, sorry"
"..............it's fine"
"Oh I'm glad you understand"
"It's nothing.........so what are you dressing up as?"
"Hm?"
"I suppose it's fine if you don't want to wear anything too"
"........fami we're not going trick-or-treating"
"Why?"
"We're high schoolers. Only kids go trick-or-treating. Everyone will look at us weird"
"I don't care what humans think of me, as long as I get the candies they can look at me however they want"
"......and what will you dress up as anyway? I didn't prepare any costumes"
"Can't I just go as myself? I'm a devil, after all, an horseman nonetheless, that's quite scary in my opinion"
"No one knows that. You just look like a normal human woman"
"So they won't give me candies?"
"Yeah, most likely"
".......I see"
Fami got up and went into another room. You thought she was going to grab something to eat to ease her sorrows so you didn't pay too much attention to it and began using your phone
"Y/n, what do you think?"
"About wha-"
When you raised your head, you were met with a bed sheet ghost, or well fami with a sheet on her, only the eyes were cut out, but that was enough to make you recognize her...along with her legs.
"I searched for some easy Halloween costumes, and this was the first that came up, what do you think?"
"OK, I'll admit that the glowing eyes are kinda creepy, but you're so tall the sheet doesn't even cover you completely"
"It's still a costume"
"So?"
"I'm still gonna go"
"I......*sighs* Fine, I guess, if you really want to go, I'm not going to stop you, I'm not wearing anything, though. "
You could feel the happiness in her voice, something only you could do, as she thanked you and grabbed the basket before walking outside and letting you follow her
You went around the neighborhood trick-or-treating, well actually only she was, and to your surprise actually got a lot of candies, you don't know if it was because people were scared of her or because they were just nice but fami didn't care what it was as long as they gave her sweets, you even saw fami's niece trick-or-treating with her parents and said hi to her.
After finishing, you returned home, and fami took the sheet off of her, just throwing it to the floor and sat down to start eating her candies
You sat down too and started using your phone again. You were interrupted when you felt something tapping you in the face, you looked up to see the famine devil holding your favorite candy
"Take it"
"Oh thanks, how did you know I liked it?"
"I see you always take that one for yourself when we go shopping, so I assumed it was your favorite"
".....wow you remembered that?"
"Of course, i remember all your favorite foods......mostly because so I know not to eat them"
"Thanks, that's a lot coming from you"
"It's really nothing, now take this, I want to continue eating"
You took the candy from fami's hand, and she kissed your cheek before coming back to her chair and resuming eating. You ate the candy too and smiled at her
"Hey, next year I think I'll dress up too"
Your girlfriend raided her head to look at you, and the ghost of a smile appeared on her face
"Thanks, that sounds really fun, I can't wait"

Get the Angles Right!
chapter 3.
pairing:
Johnnie Guilbert x Fem!Reader.
warnings:
none
"Well, good morning, Johnnie." You locked your apartment door. "How was the meeting?"
"long and really fucking boring, obviously." he smiled at you. "How'd you sleep?"
you pressed the button on the elevator. "I couldn't. my mind was flooded with ideas for you. it was crazy. I filled up a third of my notebook."
"I can't tell if that's a good or a bad thing." Johnnie laughed.
"I think it's good. who need sleep, anyway?" You smirked, shooting him a wink before stepping out of the elevator. "The first place I wanna show you is right up the street."
"Okay," he hummed as he walked next to you. "Despite all of the nasty shit, New York is really pretty."
"Yeah," you agreed. "I like the aesthetic of it all. it makes me feel more professional, like I'm in a movie. it's good motivation, sometimes."
"I'll have to come back and visit again."
in all honesty, you had forgotten he didn't live here in the first place. your heart ached. you looked away from him as you recollected yourself. "Yeah, you should." You shot him a fake smile and turned your head back towards the path.
you paused before speaking again. "My dream is to open my own store, some day." You looked at the vacant building across the street. "I mean, I'd make less singled out designs. some shit that anyone can walk in and buy, you know?"
he followed your gaze to the building across the street. "What would you name it?"
"probably something a lot cooler than L/n Designs, but you know. I may be creative with fabrics, but not with names." You sighed and laughed at yourself. "Maybe my boring name is why my clothes don't catch people's attention."
he shrugged. "I mean, I don't know jack shit about fashion or the fashion industry, but I'm sure it just takes time like everything else."
"You're right. It does." You took a step closer to him. "You're pretty fashionable for someone who apparently knows nothing about it."
"I kind of just throw together whatever is in my closet." he laughed. "I've been dressing like this since middle school, y/n."
"Me too! I mean, whenever I go out I'm dressed up but 90% of the clothes I wear are pajamas." You pointed towards the shop coming up. "This is it."
"Wait, what even is it? you never told me where we're going." Johnnie squinted in an attempt to read the sign.
"Wow, you put a lot of trust into me. it's a record store. not one of those big corporate shits that only sell today's top pop record vinyls, but you'll see." You cut yourself off, not wanting to spoil it.
he opened the door for you. you thanked him and walked in. "The quote unquote emo section is my favorite. whenever I actually want to buy a record, I always find one of my favorite albums. I'm not sure if everything in this section is actually emo, but, yeah."
you flicked through the selection, finding the 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge' album that comes with a red record.
"Oh, shit." Johnnie mumbled as you pulled it out of the selection.
"i know! I'd blast this shit whenever I was younger. to be fair, I still do." you laughed. "I'll have to come back and snag this one in my free time. I don't want to carry it around all day."
Johnnie began looking through the next part of that section. "damn, I really fucking underestimated this place." he pulled out the album 'Pretty. Odd.' by Panic! at the Disco. it was just a normal, black record.
"I love panic! I've never seen pretty odd here before." he handed it to you, and you flipped it towards the back.
he looked at you with a soft smile. he admired your excited facial expression. "yeah, me too." he said softly.
you looked back at him. the eye contact lasted what felt like hours, and it was electric. you shook your head softly. "Uh, yeah. they also have shit like vintage concert posters and tee shirts. of course, they're all expensive as fuck so I've never gone out of my way to get them. they're cool to look at, though."
Johnnie followed you to the back of the store. his eyes were wide as he looked over the countless posters that were hanging on the wall, each one overlapping another. "how does someone even get all of this shit?"
"I don't know, donations or people sell them, I guess." you shrugged.
the twi of you walked around towards the alternative pop section. you and Johnnie reached at the same time. your hand fell on top of his. you hesitated before pulling it away. "God, how many times are we going to do that?" You joked.
he shrugged, his face red. "it's whatever, I don't really mind."
you tried to hide your smile. "Me, either." You flipped through the first few. "Look, melanie martinez. do you know her?" You asked, handing him the 'Cry Baby' album with a baby pink and blue record.
"I've heard of her, yeah. I've never really listened to her, though." he looked at the back. "these song names are sick as fuck, though."
"you should check her out," you mention, putting the record back in its place.
you two left the store. "There's this small cafe across the street. if you're interested, we can stop and get coffee or something. it's on me this time, by the way."
"Yeah, let's go." he smiled
you pressed the button for the crosswalk. the light changed, signaling you to go. you began to step forward before Johnnie grabbed your arm and pulled you back. you watched in shock as a car whipped past you.
"fuck, don't scare me like that, y/n. i can't have you getting hit by a car right in fucking front of me." his hand stayed rested on your arm.
you turned around to look at him. "im sorry. maybe I should pay more attention." You laughed nervously.
"Don't worry about it, just glad you're okay." his hand slid down your arm and gripped your hand. he shook it gently before dropping it.
you carefully crossed the street with Johnnie glued to your side.
whenever you reached the cafe, he held the door open for you. "Thank you. apparently, this place is family owned and shit. it's really good, I go here all the time. I usually get a mocha frappuccino and a croissant. what do you want?"
he walked up to stand beside you and scanned over the menu. "Hot chocolate?"
you hummed, "I've never had it here before. Do you want a croissant, too?"
he nodded. "Yeah, sure."
you instructed him to go pick a seat, and you would order. he walked off, and you walked up to the counter.
"Hi! what can I get started for you?" The woman had a cheerful smile. she was older, probably in her late 50s.
"Can I get two croissants, a hot chocolate, and a mocha frap? both medium, please." You smiled back as you pulled out your card.
"Yes, ma'am. your total is on the screen, swipe whenever you're ready."
you paid the bill. she took your name for the order, and you went back to sit with Johnnie.
"everyone seems really fucking nice here." he mentioned. he looked away from the window to make eye contact with you.
you shrugged. "more or less. it depends where you go. that's why I have my signature spots." You smiled and sat at the seat across from him. "Is everyone a dick in LA or something?"
he shrugged. "People don't really interact with each other, to be honest. but not everyone is like that. it just feels like it's rare to find someone who is actually nice."
"Maybe you're just looking at it the wrong way. everyone is nice in their own way of showing it, or at least that's what my mother used to tell me." you explained. "I always try to see the good in people."
his bright blue eyes were excentuated by the sun. "that's actually a really fucking good way to look at it. damn, I never thought about that."
you shrugged. the woman called your name, and you went to go grab your order. it was on a small tray, which made it easier to carry everything.
you passed Johnnie his hot chocolate and croissant, then took your own. he took a sip of his hot chocolate. the taste made him raise his eyebrows. "this is actually really good. wanna try?"
"yeah, wanna try mine?"
you traded drink and took a sip of eachothers. the hot chocolate was really good.

||calling him by his first name||
gotham knights!jason todd x gn!reader
{not edited/proof read please excuse any errors♡}
You honestly didn't even realize that you said it. It was one of those rare late nights where Jason was out on patrol, and you were stuck back home at your shared apartment, struggling to fall asleep ever since he had left for the night. Normally after a long day of work and errands like today sleep came easy, you'd take a hot shower maybe have a cup of that tea Jason buys specifically to help with sleep, and then gather you and the new kitten the two have recently adopted and sleep until he came home. Tonight however, was a different case. No amount of tossing and turning, fluffing your pillows, cups of tea, or white noise playing on your phone could help you sleep.
Thankfully after however many(few) hours your body must've finally realized that you were in fact tired and in need of sleep cause when you woke up next, it was to your kitten stirring and loudly meowing at the bedroom door. Jason was finally home, and from the sounds of things he had just put away his gear from patrol and was making his way to your shared bedroom. You were always confident in your boyfriend and his family's capabilities at what they do, that you never exactly feared one of them never coming home, but it always filled you with such relief and peace whenever he walked through that door. Most times he's worn down and maybe nursing an injury but he's in one peice.
“Welcome home Jason.”
You had barely managed to say it in an audible enough volume with how much sleep and exhaustion you were fighting off. Despite that, it was clear he had heard you anyways. Through half lidded eyes struggling to remain open for more than a few seconds at a time you saw him pause from loving on your kitten almost as if you had told him something ridiculous and he was taking a moment to process it. It wasn't until you had registered his silence lasting longer that it should've for a moment like this, that you started to sober up from you sleepy state and turn your full attention to him.
“What's the matter-”
“Are you mad at me?”
“What are you tal-”
“Are you mad at me?”
“Jason-”
“You're mad at me.”
With a huff you push yourself up and remove yourself from the plush warm covers and expose yourself to the surprisingly cold air of your bedroom as you sit and stare at your boyfriend who stands holding your cat just a few feet from you staring back at you.
“Why would I be mad?”
“You called me Jason.”
You're tempted to crawl right back under your blankets. For how large and scary your boyfriend tends to be, when it comes to you he can be so silly and endearingly pathetic. You will admit that you hardly ever call him by his first name after the first few months of dating and it had only been petnames and nicknames since. Both of your first names were a rare occurrence in your household with how disgustingly in love and sappy the two of you were.
“You're worried cause I called you…your name?”
“You never call me just Jason and you know that.”
“You're an idiot” he's your idiot.
The slight tension in his shoulders immediately deflates as he feigns a dramatic gasp and covers your kitten's ears as if you said a very nasty swear at the two of them.
“How could you say that in front of our daughter! Do you know how damaging it will be for her to see her parents fight?”
“Well seeing as she's only been home for a month and walked in on her parents being very loving with each other more times than we can count on both of our hands combined, I'd say she'll be just fine.”
With the tension fully dissipated now and the both of you all giggles and love sick smiles, Jason walks over to where you sit in bed and plops the kitten on your lap before kissing you softly. The sneaky bastard tries to heaten the moment up, but you (hesitantly) pull away before he's successful.
“Nuh uh. Go shower you smell like gunpowder and outside.”
“What? I thought you liked my natural musk.” He’s got that stupid playful smile on his face that never fails to get a giggle out of you.
“That is not your natural “musk”, you smell like Gotham. Now go shower before you're sleeping on the couch tonight. Jason.”
He immediately straightens up and pouts at your use of his first name again but still makes his way to the bathroom. You don't miss the way he leaves the door completely open as he turns on the water and undresses as an invitation for you to join him. With a dreamy sigh and a kiss to your kitten's forehead, you get yourself up and out of bed and make your way to the bathroom door.

You answered my question perfectly and I'll be sure to request more Lucifer in the future (love our short king). But this time I'd like to request Charlie x reader angst if that's okay (totally not inspired by your last request 😅 and sorry it's a bit long).
Reader planning an evening out for their 1 year anniversary (with help and ideas from Lucifer), based on when she's supposed to be back. It's not until later on in the evening the reader finds out she's forgotten/changed her mind and gone for an evening out with Vaggie instead. Reader leaves a crumbled note on top of a bouquet of flowers and a new dress/suit they had brought just for her and that evening. Note is your typical breaking up and leaving, with the reader leaving the hotel to try and not be found and blocking her number.
Omg anon! I have no idea where you keep getting these ideas from! They’re absolutely *Chef's kiss*
I also just love how the reader and Lucifer are basically just bonding over Charlie. And I don't mind how long your messages are! I just love reading you guys' thoughts.
Anyway! Here is the angst you requested! Hope you like it :)
Enjoy (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
Forgotten
Charlie x Reader
You were filled with anticipation for today, a mix of excitement and nervousness. After all, it's your and Charlie's one-year anniversary! Your desire is to ensure that the day is flawlessly wonderful! You plan on buying her a gift and giving it to her during dinner.
One small issue tho-
You have no idea what to get her.
Maybe you could ask someone? Someone who's known Charlie for a very long time. Someone like maybe-
Lucifer!
Surely he'd know! He is her father after all. Surely he wouldn’t mind you calling about a matter such as this, right?
In slight anxiety, you pick up your phone to dial in Lucifer’s number. He gave it to you once Charlie revealed you two’s relationship to him. Saying to call him should you need anything cuz you are his ‘future Child-in-law’. You just hope he’s free enough to answer his phone.
He picks up on the third ring, “Hey kid! How are you doing these days?”
“Hello sir! I just uhm- kinda need your help with something.”
“Of course! Whatever you need, dear! What’s up?”
“Sooo- today is Charlie and I’s 1 year anniversary and I don’t know what to get her. I plan on buying her a gift and taking her out for dinner, but I have no idea what I’m supposed to get her. Do you perhaps have any ideas?”
Lucifer let out a gasp, “Totally! Maybe you can buy her new suit? She loves those.”
That’s brilliant! How come you didn’t think of that before!
“That’s a marvelous idea, sir! Thank you for your help!”
“Always happy to help, dear! Have fun with your anniversary!”
You both bid each other goodbye and hang up.
Okay! Time to go shopping!
You spent three hours trying to find the perfect suit. And it was absolutely beautiful. It should fit Charlie like a glove. She’ll absolutely love it. Now! All that needs to be done is give her this suit to wear and take her out for dinner! You try to give her call, but it went straight to voicemail mail. Worry fills your heart. It’s getting closer and closer to the time of the reservation and she’s still out of sight.
It’s getting pretty late, you’ll miss your reservation if you don’t leave now.
You go down to the lobby, maybe someone knows where she is. You see Husk and Angel Dust at the bar. Maybe they know.
“Hey guys! Have you seen Charlie? I haven’t seen her since this morning.”
“Haven’t seen her either, toots. Why? You need her for something?” Angel Dust turns to you as soon as you get closer.
“I’m taking her out for dinner, but she won’t return any of my calls.”
“She’s been out with Vaggie since this morning. Hasn’t been back since.” Says Husk before taking a swig of his bottle.
“I-I see. Thank you.”
Husk and Angel shoot either other a worried glance as you left. You were a pretty good friend to them. They didn’t like seeing you upset. But they figured it’s best they give you some space.
Another hour passed. You had completely missed your reservation. Being by yourself for a bit gave you time to reflect on your time with Charlie. It made you realize that this wasn’t the first time she’s done this. It always felt like you were a second priority to her. Every time you’d want to spend some time with her, she’d always make excuses about how she already made plans with Vaggie. And you know what? You’re done. If she wants to hang out with Vaggie so bad then you won’t stop her.
In your fit of heartbreak, you write a letter. The letter’s contents are that of a break up. Explaining how you’re done with her. How you’re done with always being second place. How you’re always second priority. You spent three freaking hours picking out a suit for her just for her not to show up.
After finishing up the letter, it being all crumbled from how hard you were gripping it and being stained with your tears, you take the bouquet of flowers you were going to give her and leave it on her bed next to her suit.
This is goodbye.
You start packing your bags. You weren’t going to stay with someone who never cared for you as much as you cared for them. When you’re done, you leave your phone behind. You’ll make sure to buy a new one with a new number and everything.
You exit through the fire escape and never look back.
And just like that, you’re gone.
Another request fulfilled!!! Finally! I was struggling with how I’m supposed to write this, but I think I made a decent piece. Hope you like it anon! Hopefully it’s up to your standards! Sorry it took me so long to write this. Anyway!
Stay healthy and hydrated!
Bye babes! ∠(ᐛ 」∠)

Am I the asshole for calling a (now ex-) mutual a stingy asshole?
So to start, I (NB20) am in a pretty rough situation, I'm facing homelessness soon, transphobia at home and work and my hours have been getting cut resulting in me making even less money that can sustain me. I have a toyhou.se forum post up stating I have emergency commissions open to help me out and to please support me if you can. This is where the situation begins. I have a mutual on toyhou.se who I'll call Apple (MTF22) I talk to sometimes to the point I'd say we are friends, not super close but friends nonetheless. She made a bulletin telling people about my commissions and to please comm me if they could which I'm very grateful for since I did get a few customers from her because of that. The thing is, a few weeks later, she made a bulletin talking about how happy she was so many commissions she bought were finished around the same time and posted all of them with the artists tagged in the post. It was honestly... quite a few, I'm talking like 9 pieces of art of her fursona and even a custom vtuber model she got of her sona. I was going to reply all happy for her, but it made me think... how much did she spend on those commissions?? So I went through all the artists socials to find their commission prices and came to a total of fucking $385!!! More than half of my current goal I'm trying to make through commissions to stay out of homelessness!! So I messaged Apple saying since I saw she bought a few commissions if she was interested in buying a comm from me. She replies saying "Ohh! I'd love to <333 but im just not in a place to buy any more comms right now :< sorry >.<!!" So I casually reply really? because it seems like your in the perfect place to help me out after already spending over $300 in commissions. She tells me she's sorry and really wishes someone would be able to help me out but she just wasn't that interested in my art or a custom to which I tell her she could've easily donated to my ko-fi which I have always had since she clearly has money to spend? To this, she straight up IP blocks me. So still fucking annoyed, I vented in a discord server I share with a few friends from being in a few shared CS together, saying how annoying it is rich assholes like her would drop half a thousand for a picture of their fursona but don't even blink twice at their so called friends. anyway, one of my friends takes a look at Apples th profile and notices she has a new bulletin up and sends me a screenshot, but anways the bulletin reads like "hey!! just saying, but please dont come into my dms acting like you know my financial situation better than i do, just because i buy a lot of commissions doesnt mean im made of money! and please dont think that me commisioning artist 1 means i hate artist 2? thats so weird, thanks!!!!!" and seeing all their subscribers just kissing her ass pissed me off so i made my own bulletin that just stated "i thought it was pretty fucking weird to know how bad ur friend's situation was and to go buy a bunch of comms instead of buying a comm from or even throwing a buck to help me out? like yeah im gonna think i know ur situation better than u, you stingy fuck!!!" Anyway, she mustve been block evading (which I reported her for) since she unblocked me, took a screenshot of my bulletin, then went on about how she lived in an abusive household; her dad had thrown her into a sink and chipped her tooth, bruised half her face and scarred it pretty badly. She bought a bunch of commissions immediately afterwards in a panic to make herself feel better, paying everything with her savings. Which to me.. isn't an excuse. Ive been hit and abused and still found scraps of money to pull together to give to mutuals who need it and Ive been bumping my own post like crazy and she had literal weeks to donate or comm me. Not to mention Ive had exmutuals of hers come to me saying that shes never donated anything to them either despite advertising their posts but always had money for plushies, comms and other crap, meaning Im not alone in thinking shes a stingy asshole. This is getting long, so here, tumblr AITA?
What are these acronyms?

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd make a quick post to let you know that...
The complete, definite, will-not-be-edited-again-in-the-future, FINAL translation of London Holiday, is finally here for your enjoyment!
AND it comes this time with an in-character fan-translation that DOESN'T read like Google Translate!
For those who didn't know, Professor Layton and the London Holiday is an official prologue to Diabolical Box; it's a short slice-of-life story in which Luke and Layton are just having some good time solving puzzles, and at the end, they receive the letter from Schrader which starts the events of DB. This game is not really lost content per se, but it's still part of the more obscure Layton media, since we non-Japanese fans have no legal way of playing it ourselves unless we buy the Japanese version of DB.
This isn't really some breaking news or anything, but I still thought it was worth warning you that this is it -- if you wanted a fancy in-character translation, you finally have it!
I will make a small shoutout to @call-me-rucy who helped every now and then with the more accurate translation when I had doubts on how a few idioms here and there were meant to be interpreted. Thanks again for your help, and sorry for using you like this xD I do wish I could send you DMs for reasons other than just asking for your Japanese knowledge hahaha
---
When I say that this won't be edited again, I mean that the only way this web page will ever be further edited in the future is if someone else shows up at some point and asks me to change something. Perhaps I took too many liberties in the fancy fan-translation compared to the original text in one or two specific occurrences, or perhaps someone will want to translate this transcript into another language that isn't English, in which case I would absolutely accept to add it! (and you would be credited for that additional translation, obviously)
---
I heavily suggest you take a look at it if you haven't already, because it provides quite a bit of lore and funny/wholesome moments! We notably get the full story of how Schrader heard about, and then tried to acquire the Elysian box (...story which contradicts the fact that he would already own it in Eternal Diva, by the way), but it's not the only fun lore crumbs this prologue to DB gives us :)
Also, for the fans of the puzzle theory -- I suggest you take a look in particular at what Luke says when he solved puzzle 09. It sure is intriguing that he would mention walking from island to island on foot as if he were... Physically doing it?? Or at least had the impression that he could experience it somehow???
Heh, puzzles and hint coins have mind powers anyway, for all we know perhaps some of them can trap you inside your own mind for a bit while you're solving them. Deliciously horrifying, so much potential for fanfics/comics and lore analysis. So shameful that nobody would have thought of taking advantage of this by throwing puzzles at someone with the specific intent of slowing them down by trapping them in a trance for a bit. smh, Level 5. smh.
#professor layton#london holiday#professor layton and the london holiday#diabolical box#professor layton and the diabolical box#professor layton transcript#layton preservation#lutiasgithub#still thought I'd tag DB as well since this prologue is related to it and provides some Schrader lore#pl puzzle theory#pl theory board

"Poly" in Polytheism
mostly an open, and very raw talk about Lady Athena by a baby helpol
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* This is a very big yap session, I apologize!! I am getting more and more interested in Lady Athena, Lady Demeter, and Lord Ares.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
But it's weird... especially with Lady Demeter. I am SO out of touch with nature, yet I crave it. I hate cooking, and I only bake if I have to. I only stay outside if the temperature is alright to me. I would LOVE to support local farmers and buy organic food, but I can't afford either. But She feel so incredibly motherly to me. I feel like Her domain is calling to me. I truly believe that humans were made to live and frolic in nature.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
Lord Ares is an interesting one... All of my life, I have struggled with anger issues (I get angry easily), passed down on me from both of my parents. At this point in my life, I hold my anger in very well, and tend to go away from situations that make me angry so I they don't "escalate" . I have seen just a handful of posts by Lord Ares' worshippers, and how much He helps them, not just with their anger.
I sometimes tend to forget that anger is not a necessarily bad emotion. It's here to protect, and to make your body recognize when you are being mistreated, for example. From what I have seen, lots of Lord Ares worshippers see Him as a father figure, and I have read a lot about how good of a father He is.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
Lady Athena, however... oh, it's a complicated tale on this one.
As I have stated in a prior entry, I don't feel worthy enough to be under Her domain, even though I'd like to be.
All of my life, I have felt inferior, especially in the smarts-area. I have never been book-smart, and my mother never finished school, so there was a LOT she didn't know, and therefore, couldn't teach me. And I don't have a dad, lol.
Anyways, from what my best friend and boyfriend have been telling me, is that I seem to be socially smart. I seem to be wise. But I don't look at these aspects of myself all too fondly all of the time, since those were shaped by trauma.
I had to be careful.
I had to read people and identify their intentions immediately for my safety.
I received a lot of bad grades in my school years, which always made me feel dumber than others. Since there is a high possibility that I have ADHD, I've started to be easier on myself. The system just wasn't made for people like me.
But I love knowledge. I crave knowledge.
I get overwhelmed when my (possible) ADHD wants to suck up Every Single Piece Of Information Ever in the span of one (1) day. And I sulk when I'm not perfect.
I get frustrated when information doesn't stick immediately. I get upset when I have to read a passage over and over and over again because I can't concentrate on Just That.
I don't feel worthy yet, even though I want to finish my high-school diploma somehow after dropping out two years ago, and even though I see and recognize that some things that I say or do, are because of my craving for knowledge.
Should I still reach out? Should I somehow "wait" for a sign from Lady Athena where I know that I am allowed into Her domain? As I see Lady Aphrodite as a gentle, loving and kind Mother, I see Lady Athena as a stern Mother that expects perfection. Am I wrong?
Thank you for reading 🕊️🤍

Yandere Jazz x Aroace Kpop fan Millennial( Black Pink) Reader
Hello my first time writing on Tumblr I kind of have a thing for reading Yandere themed stories and art and I figured I give it a try, being a part of the ace community I haven't really seen much of Yandere's with anyone who was in the ace spectrum and since I haven't seen it I'd figure I take the chance and write a few myself in having a type of unique story telling.
__________
Ever since you where a kid you had always loved Kpop especially with there dancing and stage outfits, your parents didn't understand it at first since they hadn't heard of kpop. As soon as you got into your teenage years that phase didn't go away instead it had increased, by then you had taken a lot of dance classes that where about kpop dancing and had dreams in wanting to be a back up dancer. Normal teenage girl would start talking about boys and who they had crushes on but you where different, you didn't feel attracted to any boy or girl and figured that it would change when you had gotten older. Instead of worrying about why you where different you focused more on your kpop dancing and geeking out over what idol group you loved, also in order to afford your kpop stuff and concerts you ended up getting a job during your sophomore year of high school. So there was no time in you for dating anyway that didn't bother you, in making certain your dreams came true in back up dancing you did take care of your looks as soon as you had hit puberty. It meant eating clean with no preservatives and limiting on junk food and sweets and thee most important was skin and hair care, your mom was happy that you cared about your appearance and had hopes in you finding a man and getting married if you kept up with taking care of your looks. The sad thing for her was that it was never going to happen with your getting married it was during senior year that you had discovered that you where Aroace after you did a little google search on ' why am I not attracted to anybody?' and even did an ace quiz in seeing what type of ace you where, you didn't confront your parents about sexuality knowing that they didn't want to hear it and saying that 'you haven't met the right person' or ' give up the whole kpop thing and you'll find a man.'
It was in 2016 that you had found Black Pink after you had moved out of your parents place after a year from graduating in not wanting to hear them on repeat ' when are you going to start dating' getting your own place meant you could decorate your own place however you wanted which meant a lot of kpop, you managed to buy yourself a condo in a nice area in a different city for a fresh start. If your wondering how you where able to afford a condo at thee age of 19, you came from a decently wealthy family and was giving quite a lot of money for your graduation gifts and you had always said that you wanted your own place. Of course you did still work in order to both pay bills and affording Kpop items which had turned into Black Pink the moment you heard them and fell in love in a scenes, also during the time cybertronians had came to earth and many people where shock of course and you were one of them hearing the news. Though your love your Black Pink blocked those thoughts for the good course of a few years after you had managed to get your dream job as a back up dancer for the kpop industry, you where starting to make a name for yourself and even having your own social media that had a decent amount of followers that where over 6,000 on instagram and 10,000 on Tiktok with your dancing skills and was slowly growing.
Now as to how you Jazz came into your life? It was back in 2019, the two of you had meet when your tires busted and you almost had a car accident in which he saved you while he was out enjoying the scenery. It was your first time seeing a cybertronian in person and of course you thanked him for saving you, after you two had introduced yourselves was when the friendship started. Five years later you still had your friendship with Jazz, you had met his team and they seemed to like you and your personality. You didn't mention being aroace in not wanting to explain things to them in not wanting to confuse any of them, not only where you good friends with Jazz you where also good friends with Bumblebee and a couple other bots as well. However you did say that you where a professional kpop dancer, that part you didn't mind explaining since you had a strong love for kpop. Jazz had even asked you how to teach him how to do a few kpop dance moves which you didn't mind and thought it was exciting since you had never danced with a cybertronian before, it wasn't a surprise that he couldn't keep up with you at first since he had a hard time moving the way you did especially with the you moved with the moon walk the way kpop dancers knew how to move. Yes Jazz was impressed by your dancing skills and slowly he had gotten better, with practice.
Little did you know that you had started something with Jazz's feelings towards you in the first three years of your friendship, he didn't understand it at first. But the more time he spent with you he had realized that those feelings where love, he didn't want to believe that he had fallen in love with a human. He was in denial of those feelings and kind of distance himself a little in hopes of those feelings weren't real, whenever he would see you talking with Bumblebee he felt a twig of anger and jealousy. It only got worse after a week and he had to come to terms that he had indeed fell in love with you, it was when he realized those feelings was when he had confronted you after you had returned from your job at the dance studio like at night around 7.
"Jazz? This is a surprise? What brings you by? Felt like you where avoiding me lately?" Jazz had been waiting for you outside your condo in the parking lot for a few hours in his alt mode before he transformed out of it
"(Y/N) there's something I need to get off my chest." Him saying that that confused you at first it was when he had crouched down to your level, you saw that he was nervous and trying to find the right words to say to you until he spoke
" You've been a great friend to me (Y/N) ever since I came to your planet, the time I've spent with you and the more I got to know you..." As he kept speaking his face as changed seeing that he was blushing that confused you even more
"Umm? Jazz what are you saying?" You asked that in which made him more nervous until he said it
"(Y/N) I'm in love with you." Jazz blurted that out clear as day to you that left you a little speechless
"What?" Then you realized the avoiding lately which started making sense to you
"That's why you've been avoiding me lately? Oh Jazz." Still being nervous Jazz stood up rubbing the back of his neck
"Ahh...yay." Before he continued speaking he nervously laughed
"Hahaha..sooo?"
"So what?" Where you words then you realized what that meant in which you nod your head no and motioned your hands in the rejection motion
"Oh..No. Jazz I'm flattered really. I'm actually Aroace." Saying that word made Jazz question that word
"Aroace? W-What's that?" You took a breath before answering him
"Aroace is short for being Asexual and Aromantic, I'm incapable of feeling romantic or sexual attraction towards anybody. I didn't say anything cause I didn't want any of you acting weird around me, my parents don't want to accept it. That's why I don't really visit them that much." While talking you looked apologetic towards Jazz
"I'm sorry, I can only see you as a friend. I hope that's alright?"
Jazz acted calm in saying that he was fine with still being friends with you, when you thanked him for understanding and being a good friend to you. He had felt his soul shatter, he had opened his spark to you and you had rejected him and he didn't like that even after you had returned to your condo. He didn't want to accept that you where incapable of love and he was determined in proving you wrong and in hopes of winning your heart, thee obsession had begun the day after you had rejected him. You had started noticing the odd behavior he acted like his old self but he was a little clingy with you and demanding you spending more time with him, luckily for you that you had to go to Korea in performing with your dream idol girl group Black Pink for there tour. It was good timing for you in wanting to get away from Jazz for a bit which was two month and one of your friends would house sit for you while you where gone for those months.
Getting the chance in dance performing with Black Pink was your biggest dream and meeting the group in person when you arrived in Korea your heart felt like it was going to burst out of your chest, the girls where happy in working with you since they had heard and seeing what you could do. You tried to stay calm saying that you would do your best in making them proud of you and you spoke in perfect Korean as well, the lead dancer Rosé had spoken with you about the dance routine for there tour and you where over the moon happy when she compliment you on your dancing skills. When you and the group along with some of the other dancer where practicing outside on the stage they would perform on you couldn't help but feel like someone was watching you during your practice performance, it was when you stopped dancing you looked around in hopes of finding anyone that stood out to you in which you didn't see anyone you had continued your work even though you had the uneasy feeling.
It was after the first concert was oven from the tour was when you got the answer on who was watching you, to your shock Jazz was waiting for you outside the buss you and the other dancers including Black Pink used for the tour.
"Jazz what the hell are you doing here in Korea?"
"I haven't seen you in a while (Y/N) I missed ya?" Something about Jazz didn't feel right to you, more so seeing that he was by himself
"Are you here by yourself? Does anyone else know that your here?" The way Jazz looked at you, cold sweat fell on you and your blood started going cold seeing the look he was giving you. He was oddly calm as he approached you as you started stepping backwards
"What can't a FRIEND worry about you?" Before you could react you felt electric shocked on your whole body that made you fall on the ground being stunned, what you saw was Jazz had held out a type a taser and had used it on you.
"And I didn't want to waste another second away from you (Y/N)" As he said that he had gently picked you up in his hands before he had turned to his vehicle mode which had put you in the back seat still paralyzed from the taser as tears started falling down your eyes realizing he was now kidnapping you, you should have said something to any of the bots about Jazz's obsessive behavior and now you didn't know where he was taking you.... The only thing you knew was the things weren't going to be the same again......

Stocking stuffers?
Any ideas for stocking stuffers for my 70yo mother. She likes cocktails, tea, reading, traveling, sweets, etc. Need to fill her stocking as she does it for 12 of us. But she's frugal and doesn't want me spending a lot on trinkets she won't use.
Our flights were very expensive so she told me not to give her a gift at all. I still got her one of those sweatshirts with the grandkids name on the sleeve. Need something for her Birthday. Will probably do a gift card somewhere. She's very practical and does not like material things much. We are going to a comedy show and dinner the day of her Bday. Which will be fun.
My mom hosts a nice dinner/drinks/snacks for roughly 30-40 family members every Christmas. Plus, she does dinner for 15 people for Christmas Eve. For Christmas Eve my cousin buys/brings shrimp. She makes everything else. She would never accept money but we always leave a grocery store gift card when we stay for the week. She also hosts New Years for my brothers and I's family. She's done crab legs but they got pricey. So we are doing fondue for the second year in a row.
We also do a smaller family christmas with my brothers, aunt, and one cousin. My mom was going to host but my SIL offered. Then my SIL texted my younger brother and I to say "Since your parents always hosts all of us the three of us should split the costs of the pizza delivery." Which I find rude. I would never offer to host and then ask for money. You can't buy my family $30 worth of pizza? I'm confident they've never offered to pay my parents for the many, many dinners they've hosted. If my brother and SIL were generally frugal people or had any financial troubles I'd be fine with the request. They do quite well and have no problem spending money on themselves. They've visited/stayed with us - where no money was offered. I would have never accepted anyway. I can't imagine texting my SIL (after she paid a ton of money on flight tickets to come to NYC) to say "since her parents hosts Thanksgiving they should split pizza delivery costs when they come over for dinner" My mother agrees. My Mom is extremely frugal but not when it comes to being generous with other people. We also agreed we would not bring it up. Its annoying enough to bitch about not worth discussing with them. Maybe she's bitching to my brother that we don'f offer to pay. They hosted one other time three years ago. Generally speaking my SIL is great and I have no complaints but this rubbed me the wrong way. For the record, if we were staying at their house overnight I would offer money but not for one meal. Do others agree its rude or just me?
My parents also just gave my 16yo nephew a Jeep. Its old but my Dad fixed it up for him. My parents are extremely generous with all of us. Depsite being on a tighter budget then any of us. Which is another reason I find the request annoying. I know they aren't asking my parents for money but it seems by proxy they should be willing to pay for everyone.
Threw up last night. Then again this morning. Was really hoping to be feeling better but not, yet. Baby boys school messaged to say he was having a hard day. Crying for his Mom and Dad. Saying he was worried about me being sick over and over. Which is unlike him. He saw me running to the bathroom to throw up this morning but didn't seem bothered. Poor baby. As long as I feel better tmrw I am going to keep him home. All of the holiday stuff can be too much for him, even if he loves it. We will do all of the things he loves best. Santa visited the school today. He seemed happy in the pictures, at least.

Hi again!! so I was that anon that asked about Draco, but I loved reading your opinion on him :)
I think I'm slowly warming up to him as a character because he seems more realistic/complex compared to how Harry is treated like this Chosen One with unrealistic traits in the earlier books/movies. And ur right, he did certain questionable things but people forget that he was raised/fed propaganda about the Death Eaters and Voldemort's ideology, shaping his worldview and his Dad being the main giver of this propaganda. Plus, once he realizes what he did he shows guilt and reluctance, like in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, hinting at his internal conflict. Unlike Harry, whose heroism is idealized, Draco’s growth is more nuanced and flawed.
And idk why but Snape seems to be a better father figure, he seems to be the most likable teacher in the story— like, everyone else like everyone else like Dumbledore or McGonagall, while "great" in their own ways, feel distant or overly idealized + Dumbledore is way too cryptic. Teachers like Trelawney are sympathetic since all magic is controlled/dumbed down by a stupid Ministry. Snape's complexity, despite his flaws, makes him feel more relatable and grounded + Harry's dad did bully him.
I am developing an idea (for a larger multifandom story arc) where Draco ends up being fully sick of the whole wizard conflict, and Snape too- so they end up running away from the HP world, through a disappearing act right when Harry tries to retaliate after Dumbledore died. Now, this isn't to spite JKR or anything but an idea I came up with if Draco ended up choosing neutrality and rejecting the war's ideologies.
Anyways, I'd like to hear ur thoughts ^^
Helloooo! Good morning btw hahahah
Well, I’ve always seen Draco as a modern version of Regulus (which isn’t surprising since, after all, they’re family). Both are boys raised under a set of ideas they never questioned, but when the moment came to confront what it truly meant to put those ideas into action, they realized it involved doing things they didn’t like. This is something that happens a lot in real life and feels very realistic to me. I don’t think Draco completely let go of his own prejudices or conservative ideas, but there’s a huge difference between having problematic thoughts and actually wanting to exterminate people. A 12-year-old like Draco might spout off absolute barbarities he heard at home (like wishing Hermione would die), but he’s a 12-year-old kid who has no clue about the nonsense he’s saying. He doesn’t understand what death means or what it’s like to see someone dead. Once he experiences that years later, it horrifies him terribly.
Draco is an incredibly realistic character, and that’s why I find him likable.
Now, Harry is a much more complex issue because, in general, he’s an unrealistic character. His way of dealing with trauma—pretending everything is fine—is unrealistic. The fact that he doesn’t suffer from PTSD after living with the Dursleys is unrealistic. The way he conveniently holds grudges against certain characters but forgives Sirius overnight for attacking Ron in PoA while trying to catch Pettigrew—without even a proper apology—is also unrealistic. But in the end, it’s just Rowling deliberately and conveniently ignoring the consequences certain characters’ actions might have on Harry because it doesn’t suit her for readers to question whether those characters are morally dubious. She also doesn’t want to delve into Harry’s internal conflicts regarding them. It’s the same with Lupin being a total piece of crap to Tonks. It’s completely glossed over because Rowling wants to keep portraying him as a saintly, good guy. So, abandoning his pregnant wife gets resolved in two pages, and then we all move on as if nothing happened, lol.
I’m not sure I fully buy into Snape as a father figure, but I’m also not sure I completely reject it. I think Severus was very childish due to his traumas and the emotional immaturity they caused. This is evident in how he interacts with his students. The jabs he throws at them often reflect an adolescent mindset—he’s stuck in that stage because he couldn’t overcome a series of events. And then there’s the added layer of being “trapped” in the place where all those things happened to him. His reactions when triggered are those of a teenager who hasn’t yet learned to control himself.
His moments of camaraderie with the Slytherins clearly echo what his adolescence must have been like—encouraging the strong in his house. Except now, he’s the strong one, the one with power and authority. This creates a stark contrast and a strong dissonance with his other role, which is protecting the students—something he takes very seriously. Honestly, Dumbledore is a cynical, negligent jerk who doesn’t give a damn about his students unless they serve his future plans. McGonagall seems to have stayed out of all the plots Dumbledore and Severus had going, so we can’t really blame her. But Severus was tasked with protecting the children, and he genuinely protected them. In that sense, he might be the most responsible adult at Hogwarts, maybe even the only professor truly concerned about ensuring none of them ended up dead. However, this contrasts heavily with the way he treats them, which is hard for readers to understand if they don’t look beyond his image as a mean teacher.
What I do believe is that he cared about Draco. Just as his treatment of Harry reflected his unresolved issues with James and his guilt over what happened with Lily, I also think Severus projected onto Draco the gratitude he felt toward Lucius for probably being the first to accept him into Slytherin, opening many doors for him. In fact, I think Severus must have been quite close to the Malfoys on a personal level. Narcissa trusted him enough to ask him to make the Unbreakable Vow and to place her son’s life in his hands, knowing she would do anything for Draco. That suggests a close relationship behind the scenes.
Anyway, I don’t think Draco ever left the wizarding world. I could see him keeping a low profile, wanting to stay out of the spotlight, and focusing on managing his inheritance or pursuing activities that didn’t require him to go out much. But I don’t see him leaving the magical world entirely. He received a very specific type of education, and while his ideas about exterminating Muggle-borns likely vanished after the war, he was still an aristocrat with no reason to reject his lifestyle. I do see him adopting a much more moderate and cautious outlook, though.
Severus, on the other hand, would’ve left. Severus would’ve locked himself away in some remote place where no one would think to look, dedicating himself to his studies and potions, and telling everyone to go to hell. Severus was utterly fed up, but he didn’t have any options.

hi! any thoughts on antonin dolohov? back in the day i used to have a huge obsession with him, i remember when i was reading deathly hallows for the first time i was so happy when he got mentioned like 3 times in passing... anyway, it's been a long time but i still have a soft spot for this character and was curious how you imagine his background and motivations and whatnot. does he survive the war? and most importantly, why the hell does he always get petrificus totalused, is it a coincidence, a conspiracy or an ancient curse on his family?
thank you very much for the ask, anon! having an elaborate backstory for random death eaters is my bread and butter [i'd walk through fire for augustus "irrelevant" rookwood] and so - yes - i do indeed have thoughts on antonin dolohov.
most of these are connected to the geopolitics of wizarding russia, which - given both the small magical population, the fact that the need to maintain the statute of secrecy seems to drive wizards to accept fairly authoritarian systems of government, and the fact that elves fill the roles of serfs - almost certainly doesn't have the right social conditions to foment a parallel to the 1917 revolution. i'm obsessed with the idea of russian purebloods living bizarre ancien régime lives as the muggle world around them changes unrecognisably.
i know dolohov doesn't actually have to be a russian national - he could be a british citizen with a russian name - but jkr tends to only use non-commonwealth surnames [under which colonial umbrella come names like "patil" or "chang"] for characters who are non-british nationals, like fleur, krum, or karkaroff. and since i'm obsessed with the fact that voldemort seems to spend so much of his travels in the eastern bloc - and that there are two death eaters with slavic-language names, but no order members or ministry officials - i like to imagine that he is.
when it comes to the man, though, the canon incidental character detail which i love is that dolohov is clearly a great pal. he travels all the way to hogsmeade to wish voldemort luck for his interview and buy him a drink after:
"Then if I were to go to the Hog's Head tonight, I would not find a group of them - Nott, Rosier, Mulciber, Dolohov - awaiting your return? Devoted friends indeed, to travel this far with you on a snowy night, merely to wish you luck as you attempted to secure a teaching post."
[dumbledore's just being a bitch here because he's so gutted he doesn't have a group of lads ready to assemble for pints at any opportunity...]
dolohov is also is gassed for yaxley when he achieves his greatest professional triumph:
"My Lord, I have good news on that score. I have - with difficulty, and after great effort - suceeded in placing an Imperius Curse upon Pius Thicknesse." Many of those sitting around Yaxley looked impressed; his neighbour, Dolohov, a man with a long, twisted face, clapped him on the back.
[voldemort - in contrast - couldn't give less of a fuck because he's too busy flirting with snape. so real of him.]
so i think we have the answer as to why he seems so susceptible to the ol' petrificus totalus: he's easily ambushed because he's so busy being impressed by everything else going on around him.
#asks answered#antonin dolohov nation rise up#sorry you failed to kill hermione#at least you didn't get turned into a baby like your pal

cooking with the lieutenants
| 1 | ?
characters; nanao ise, genshiro okikiba, renji abarai, yuyu yayahara
requested; yes (ty bb this was so cute i'll be taking reqs for the next batch!)
rating; safer than a protected pc
@potatoq-een asked; Hi! New follower. Here to show support and maybe a... Suggestion? I don't like to call it a request... Just... Do it if you like the idea and if it inspires you. After all the rambling the idea: [drums please] cooking!! I'm so curious about how the lieutenants manage that part of their daily life with their s/o. Do they cook for their s/o? Do they let their s/o cook for them? ¿Maybe they do it together? ¿Or let the cooking be done by someone else? Idk, just thinking its a good prompt for some fluff. Do what you please with the idea. I'd be happy to read whatever comes out of this. Thank you for reading and be happy.
伊勢七緒・nanao ise
I am under the assumption that Nanao doesn’t really know how to cook. At least, not full blown elaborate meals. Her rice cooker and crock pot are her best friends before you. Having to deal with Shunsui all day along with her typical lieutenants duties leaves Nanao with little time and patience to cook big meals. However she eats well and you come to learn that when helping her prepare one morning. Nanao enjoys coming home to warm stews in the winter. As for summer, she’ll eat anything that won’t heat the kitchen too much. She doesn’t strike me as someone who would eat out often if I’m being honest. Nanao is a weekly grocery shopper with recipes in mind so she knows what to buy, she’s a bit particular about this aspect of her life because again, she’s typically a busy bee. Your help is a relief to her, especially when you work less hours. A bonus if you know how to cook and don’t mind it either. You get to go with her on the weekly grocery shopping trips and make suggestions for the menu because she’ll always consider your thoughts too. The daily chore slowly becomes one of your guys’ favorite quality time activities. At least, a close second to your first favorite.
沖牙源志郎・genshiro okikiba
I don’t think anyone in this fandom cares about this guy but honestly when I see an old man, my coochie goes into overdrive so I’m including him. Anyways, I feel like since Genshiro is older he’s a bit more traditional, meaning he expects you to stay home while he is the breadwinner. So naturally that means majority of the cooking is left to you. On his days off I like to think he would be by your side as you cook, a spectator. Genshiro may be an older, more traditional man but he is thankful for your work, knowing it is not easy or much fun cooking meals every day. He slowly starts to welcome the idea of takeout and food delivery once in a while since he feels asking you to teach him to cook would be too much of a burden on you. Even if you insist on working for whatever reason, if you two are in a relationship, Genshiro has the same expectation that you’d be the one cooking. Boomer expectations, you know?
阿散井 恋次・renji abarai
Renji is the only King in the Seireitei okay. Soul King? Mid. Renji throws it down in the kitchen like everyday is Thanksgiving. He will take full charge of cooking because he loves you (not because you’d get in the way like… totally not…). If you’re feeling under the weather he has the best soup recipe from when he and Rukia were younger, surviving out in Rukon District. It was one of his survival skills, to be fairly honest and one he never would have expected to become a hobby. He assures you that he doesn’t mind cooking, mostly because he loves the way your eyes practically roll every time he makes that one dish you love so, so much. You can certainly wash the dishes afterward. Also, he totally wears those corny ‘Kiss the chef’ aprons. You’ll do it anyway to show your appreciation. However if one day you insist on cooking, he’ll acquiesce and relax. Just because he’s used to cooking doesn’t mean he won’t accept some of yours! Whether you’re a good or bad cook, he always puts his best foot forward and makes sure you don’t lose faith in your culinary journey. Definitely has an album on his instagram saved tab that is strictly recipes.
八々原熊如・yuyu yayahara
Be so for real, you two would blow up the kitchen just by stepping into it. Or at least Yuyu would. She’s an absolute sucker for delivery services once they pop off in Soul Society. Honestly, that’s what half of her paycheck goes toward every two weeks but what’s not to love about it? On-demand healthy meals are such an insane concept for the soul reapers and once it finally landed in Soul Society, Yuyu has been on it and has no shame. Besides, she wouldn’t be up for cooking after work anyways. The hours are long and even with Lisa as a captain, its not as easy a job one might believe. She has your guys’ orders saved, you just need to tell Yuyu what you want for dinner and it’ll arrive shortly.
do not steal or repost my works anywhere

Kinktober day fifteen!!
Like in your books
❥ Gunplay, dub-con, Roleplay ❥ Mattheo riddle
POV: You've recently read Haunting and Hunting Adeline, and have been completely obsessed with it, ranting to your boyfriend Mattheo and your friends. Even so much that Mattheo decided to look at why you liked it so much and read them. Now he's willing to reenact the infamous gun scene.
Trigger warnings: Use of a gun, improper use of a gun, Gun in V, P in V, Swearwords, Non/dubcon acted ( so with consent but pretended to not have it), Unprotected sex.
I walked into Mattheo's dorm with a book and one of his oversized shirts. Because tonight we'd have a couple's night and then I would sleep over at his.
"Matt?" I asked not seeing him immediately. He walked out of his and Theo's walk-in closet carrying my book Haunting Adeline.
"Why do you have my book?" I asked confused but simultaneously relieved that I hadn't lost it after all. He smiled down at me and gave my temple a kiss.
"Because I wanted to see why you loved this so much, and I understand Zade is hot." I smiled as he said that, loving that he didn't judge me for like a morally grey- no a morally black character.
He grinned down at me "I especially liked the gun scene and the mirrorhouse scene." I nodded enthusiastically as he said "Yes I adored those scenes.
Mattheo lowered his head so he was whispering in my ear "Since I don't have a mirrorhouse here, want to reenact the gun scene?"
I gaped up at him "Wait truly?" I asked full of excitement and shock. He nodded "Yeah honey I bought a gun just for me." It made me smile knowing he went into muggle America all the way from Scotland to buy a gun so we could do this.
"Is it unloaded though?" I asked not fond of having my guts blown out from my vagina. He looked at me slightly offended "Okay I'm hurt by the fact you would ever think I'd put you in harm's way.
He took out the gun's magazine "The mag is empty and It's in the lock, nothing can happen to you love I promise." He gently kissed my temple.
"Now you know our safe words right? the stoplight system." I nodded knowing them even though I've seldom had to use them. "Good girl," he said and then smiled at me wickedly "I'm giving you 10 seconds to hide little mouse."
He had lowered his voice so it sounded a bit more dominating and menacing.
I smiled and hid away under his bed, not really hiding as well as I could since I did in fact want to be found.
It took him about one minute to find me, and that was most likely because he wanted to pretend he didn't see me, but caved because he was just as excited as I was.
I squealed but tried to get away anyway, loving the thrill. He grinned down at me "No no no little mouse you're not going anywhere."
He threw me down on the bed and pointed the gun at me making me freeze. I knew the gun wasn't loaded, and that he would never actually hurt me, but it still looked strange, seeing the person I loved so much pointing a gun at my chest.
He lowered the gun over my body until it pointed at my crotch. With his free hand, he quickly ripped my tights and panties away leaving pieces of fabric around my thighs, hips and on the bed.
He licked his lips and put his fingers on my clit before slowly pushing them inside, wanting to see if I was wet enough to take the gun.
I was in fact wet enough. He put the gun against my clit and I let out a moan at the feeling of the cold metal. He smirked and started to move it in circles.
It wasn't smooth, and it gave a slight pain with the pleasure but I didn't mind even though I did in fact prefer his fingers.
He moved the gun lower putting it against my entrance and I squirmed, my body not sure if it wanted to get away or push closer.
Mattheo chuckled "Ready little mouse?" I went to go answer but before I could utter a word he already pushed the gun inside of me. I let out a squeal at the feeling.
The cold metal against my gummy walls made me clench around it, making me feel all of the edges and ridges.
It was pure ecstasy. He started to move it in and out of me while whispering words that Zade said to Addie in the book. I let out moan after moan and after a little while my orgasm started to approach.
Matheo who knew my reactions better than I knew them myself kept pleasureing me, quickening the pace he had set with the gun until I was about to fall over the edge.
He pulled away suddenly. My eyes widened in surprise as my orgasm was ripped away from me. A whine left my mouth at the empty feeling. Walls clenching around nothing but air.
"You didn't think I'd actually let you cum on the gun did you?" Mattheo asked mockingly, His voice turned into a growl "The only thing you get to come around is my cock."
I let out a gasp or squeal when he slammed home in one thrust, throwing the gun away somewhere to another part of the room.
He didn't give me any time to adjust and started to pound into me swiftly and hard.
His pace was unrelenting driving me closer to the edge of my orgasm.
I was trying not to make it clear I was close not wanting another orgasm ripped away from me. But obviously, it didn't matter Mattheo knew anyway "Don't worry love I'll let you come this time I promise."
His thrust became sloppy and he lost his rhythm, indicating that he was just as close as I was.
"Come, love, let's come together."He said before throwing both of us over the edge. I clenched around his cock milking it as he came inside of me, spurt after spurt of cum entering my cunt, filling me up completely.
Mattheo stayed still inside of me, letting both of us come down from our highs before he pulled out and tucked me into his chest.
I yawned softly "I loved that, can we reenact scenes more often?" I asked softly making him chuckle.
"Anything for you love, and I loved it too" I smiled and started to doze off, tired from our activities.
"I love you, darling" He said kissing my temple and tucking me further against his chest.

Transcription of Fall Out Boy's interview with Rock Sound
Since I was going to read the article anyways, I thought I'd transcribe in case it'll be more accessible to read for others. The interview with Pete and Patrick goes in depth on the topics of tourdust, evolving as a band, So Much (For) Stardust, working with Neal Avron, and more.
Thank you to @nomaptomyowntreasure who kindly shared the photos of the article! Their post is linked here.

Rock Sound Issue #300
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
WITH THE TRIUMPHANT ‘SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST’ CAPTURING A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF FANS, FALL OUT BOY ARE RIDING HIGH, CELEBRATING THEIR PAST WHILE LOOKING TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE. PETE WENTZ AND PATRICK STUMP REFLECT ON RECENT SUCCESSES AND THE LESSONS LEARNED FROM TWO DECADES OF WRITING AND PERFORMING TOGETHER.
WORDS: James Wilson-Taylor
PHOTOS: Elliott Ingham
You have just completed a US summer tour that included stadium shows and some of your most ambitious production to date. What were your aims going into this particular show?
PETE: Playing stadiums is a funny thing. I pushed pretty hard to do a couple this time because I think that the record Patrick came up with musically lends itself to that feeling of being part of something larger than yourself. When we were designing the cover to the album, it was meant to be all tangible, which was a reaction to tokens and skins that you can buy and avatars. The title is made out of clay, and the painting is an actual painting. We wanted to approach the show in that way as well. We've been playing in front of a gigantic video wall for the past eight years. Now, we wanted a stage show where you could actually walk inside it.
Did adding the new songs from ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ into the setlist change the way you felt about them?
PATRICK: One of the things that was interesting about the record was that we took a lot of time figuring out what it was going to be, what it was going to sound like. We experimented with so many different things. I was instantly really proud. I felt really good about this record but it wasn’t until we got on stage and you’re playing the songs in between our catalogue that I really felt that. It was really noticeable from the first day on this tour - we felt like a different band. There's a new energy to it. There was something that I could hear live that I couldn't hear before.
You also revisited a lot of older tracks and b-sides on this tour, including many from the ‘Folie à Deux’-era. What prompted those choices?
PETE: There were some lean years where there weren't a lot of rock bands being played on pop radio or playing award shows so we tried to play the biggest songs, the biggest versions of them. We tried to make our thing really airtight, bulletproof so that when we played next to whoever the top artist was, people were like, ‘oh yeah, they should be here.’ The culture shift in the world is so interesting because now, maybe rather than going wider, it makes more sense to go deeper with people. We thought about that in the way that we listen to music and the way we watch films. Playing a song that is a b-side or barely made a record but is someone’s favourite song makes a lot of sense in this era.
PATRICK: I think there also was a period there where, to Pete’s point, it was a weird time to be a rock band. We had this very strange thing that happened to us, and not a lot of our friends for some reason, where we had a bunch of hits, right? And it didn’t make any sense to me. It still doesn’t make sense to me. But there was a kind of novelty, where we could play a whole set of songs that a lot of people know. It was fun and rewarding for us to do that. But then you run the risk of playing the same set forever. I want to love the songs that we play. I want to care about it and put passion into what we do. And there’s no sustainable way to just do the same thing every night and not get jaded. We weren’t getting there but I really wanted to make sure that we don’t ever get there.
PETE: In the origin of Fall Out Boy, what happened at our concerts was we knew how to play five songs really fast and jumped off walls and the fire marshal would shut it down. It was what made the show memorable, but we wanted to be able to last and so we tried to perfect our show and the songs and the stage show and make it flawless. Then you don’t really know how much spontaneity you want to include, because something could go wrong. When we started this tour, and we did a couple of spontaneous things, it opened us up to more. Because things did go wrong and that’s what made the show special. We’re doing what is the most punk rock version of what we could be doing right now.
You seem generally a lot more comfortable celebrating your past success at this point in your career.
PETE: I think it’s actually not a change from our past. I love those records, but I never want to treat them in a cynical way. I never want there to be a wink and a smile where we’re just doing this because it’s the anniversary. This was us celebrating these random songs and we hope people celebrate them with us. There was a purity to it that felt in line with how we’ve always felt about it. I love ‘Folie à Deux’ - out of any Fall Out Boy record that's probably the one I would listen to. But I just never wanted it to be done in a cynical way, where we feel like we have to. But celebrating it in a way where there’s the purity of how we felt when we wrote the song originally. I think that’s fucking awesome.
PATRICK: Music is a weird art form. Because when you’re an actor and you play a character, that is a specific thing. James Bond always wears a suit and has a gun and is a secret agent. If you change one thing, that’s fine, but you can’t really change all of it. But bands are just people. You are yourself. People get attached to it like it’s a story but it’s not. That was always something I found difficult. For the story, it’s always good to say, ‘it’s the 20th anniversary, let’s go do the 20th anniversary tour’, that’s a good story thing. But it’s not always honest. We never stopped playing a lot of the songs from ‘Take This To Your Grave’, right? So why would I need to do a 20-year anniversary and perform all the songs back to back? The only reason would be because it would probably sell a lot of tickets and I don’t really ever want to be motivated by that, frankly.
One of the things that’s been amazing is that now as the band has been around for a while, we have different layers of audience. I love ‘Folie à Deux’, I do, I love that record. But I had a really personally negative experience of touring on it. So that’s what I think of when I think of that record initially. It had to be brought back to me for me to appreciate it, for me to go, ‘oh, this record is really great. I should be happy with this. I should want to play this,’ So that’s why we got into a lot of the b-sides because we realised that our perspectives on a lot of these songs were based in our feelings and experiences from when we were making them. But you can find new experiences if you play those songs. You can make new memories with them.
You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained a part of your process since then?
PETE: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We had very disparate music tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned. You could have a deep discussion, because none of us were filmmakers. You could say which part was good and which part sucked and not hurt anybody’s feelings, because you weren’t going out to make a film the next day. Whereas with music, I think if we’d only had that to talk about, we would have turned out a different band.
PATRICK: ‘Take This To Your Grave’, even though it’s absolutely our first record, there’s an element of it that’s still a work in progress. It is still a band figuring itself out. Andy wasn’t even officially in the band for half of the recording, right? I wasn’t even officially the guitar player for half of the recording. We were still bumbling through it. There was something that popped up a couple times throughout the record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under the Cork Tree’’. So when we talk about what has remained the same… I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing, I wasn’t playing on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the tour of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’. I’m always amazed at how much better they are than I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day. I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things I’m frustrated about. But then I’m listening to it and I’m like, ‘this is pretty good.’ There’s a lot of good things in there. I don’t know why, it’s kind of like you can’t see those things. It’s kind of amazing to have Pete be able to see those things. And likewise, sometimes Pete has no idea when he writes something brilliant, as a lyricist, and I have to go, ‘No, I’m gonna keep that one, I’m gonna use that.’
On ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ you teamed up with producer Neal Avron again for the first time since 2008. Given how much time has passed, did it take a minute to reestablish that connection or did you pick up where you left off?
PATRICK: It really didn’t feel like any time had passed between us and Neal. It was pretty seamless in terms of working with him. But then there was also the weird aspect where the last time we worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other…as much as we do anyway. We say that and then that myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time had passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal.
PETE: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for the holiday break when you’re in college. It’s the same house but now I can drink with my parents. We’d grown up and the first times we worked with Neal, he had to do so much more boy scout leadership, ‘you guys are all gonna be okay, we’re gonna do this activity to earn this badge so you guys don’t fucking murder each other.’ This time, we probably got a different version of Neal that was even more creative, because he had to do less psychotherapy.
He went deep too. Sometimes when you’re in a session with somebody, and they’re like, ‘what are we singing about?’, I’ll just be like, ‘stuff’. He was not cool with ‘stuff’. I would get up and go into the bathroom outside the studio and look in the mirror, and think ‘what is it about? How deep are we gonna go?’ That’s a little bit scarier to ask yourself. If last time Neal was like a boy scout leader, this time, it was more like a Sherpa. He was helping us get to the summit.
The title track of the album also finds you in a very reflective mood, even bringing back lyrics from ‘Love From the Other Side’. How would you describe the meaning behind that title and the song itself?
PETE: The record title has a couple of different meanings, I guess. The biggest one to me is that we basically all are former stars. That’s what we’re made of, those pieces of carbon. It still feels like the world’s gonna blow and it’s all moving too fast and the wrong things are moving too slow. That track in particular looks back at where you sometimes wish things had gone differently. But this is more from the perspective of when you’re watching a space movie, and they’re too far away and they can’t quite make it back. It doesn’t matter what they do and at some point, the astronaut accepts that. But they’re close enough that you can see the look on their face. I feel like there’s moments like that in the title track. I wish some things were different. But, as an adult going through this, you are too far away from the tether, and you’re just floating into space. It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and I want to keep shaping and changing.
Patrick: I’ll open up Pete’s lyrics and I just start hearing things. It almost feels effortless in a lot of ways. I just read his lyrics and something starts happening in my head. The first line, ‘I’m in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now’, instantly the piano started to form to me. That was a song that I came close to not sending the band. When I make demos, I’ll usually wait until I have five or six to send to everybody. I didn’t know if anyone was gonna like this. It’s too moody or it’s not very us. But it was pretty unanimous. Everybody liked that one. I knew this had to end the record. It took on a different life in the context of the whole album. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from “Love From The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in ‘Love From The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record.
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’.
PETE: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it one such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art that she wants to create. And going that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch. It makes you want to make the biggest, weirdest version of our thing and put that out there.
Then there was the cover of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, which has had some big chart success for you. That must have taken you slightly by surprise.
PATRICK: It’s pretty unexpected. Pete and I were going back and forth about songs we should cover and that was an idea that I had. This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had kind of written called ‘Dark Horse’ and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one. So I thought if we don’t do this cover, somebody else is gonna do it. Let’s just get in the studio and just do it. We spent way more time on those lyrics than you would think because we really wanted to get a specific feel. It was really fun and kind of loose, we just came together in Neal’s house and recorded it in a day.
PETE: There's irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’ I hope if somebody ever chose to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they’ll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool.
It’s almost no secret that the sound you became most known for in the md-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it.
PATRICK: I love when anybody does anything that feels honest to them. Touring with Bring Me The Horizon, it was really cool seeing what’s natural to them. It makes sense. We changed our sound over time but we were always going to do that. It wasn’t a premeditated thing but for the four of us, it would have been impossible to maintain making the same kind of music forever. Whereas you’ll play with some other bands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time. And there’s nothing wrong with either. The only thing that’s wrong is if it’s unnatural to you. If you’re AC/DC and all of a sudden power ballads are in and you’re like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do a power ballad’, that’s when it sucks. But if you’re a thrash metal guy who also likes Celine Dion then yeah, do a power ballad. Emo as a word doesn’t mean anything anymore. But if people want to call it that, if the emo thing is back or having another life again, if that’s what’s natural to an artist, I think the world needs more earnest art. If that’s who you are, then do it.
PETE: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave that started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on, and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined. When you’re a fan of music and art and film, you take different stuff, you add different ingredients, because that’s your taste. Seeing the bands that are up and coming to me, it’s so exciting, because the rules are just different, right? It’s really cool to see artists that lean into the weirdness and lean into a left turn when everyone’s telling you to make a right. That’s so refreshing.
PATRICK: It’s really important as an artist gets older to not put too much stock in your own influence. The moment right now that we’re in is bigger than emo and bigger than whatever was happening in 2005. There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like. You just have the ball for a minute and you’re gonna pass it on to somebody else.
We will soon see you in the UK for your arena tour. How do you reflect on your relationship with the fans over here?
PETE: I remember the first time we went to the UK, I wasn’t prepared for how culturally different it was. When we played Reading & Leeds and the summer festivals, it was so different, and so much deeper within the culture. It was a little bit of a shock. The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are we gonna die?’ because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realise it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you realise that the fans over there are real fans of music It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful.
PATRICK: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavour…
PETE: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs).
PATRICK: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UL, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavour of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home.
Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?’ But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.
