need you to know your shadowzel fics have been such good fucking food and it was even better when I realized u had softer fics too (hatesex still great don’t get me wrong! looking forward to the eventual Karlach inclusion if you do it lol) lae’zel figuring out how to be not so intense for lack of a better word due to her background is so fuckin good, would honestly love to see your take, if you would be interested, on her figuring out how to do actual emotional comfort (to the best of her abilities) for shadowheart while the cleric reels from something traumatic. eats me up the way they’ve both been treated in game and hearing SH talking abt her treatment growing up was like “wow you’re a victim good god!” anyway love your works, keep it up 🫡🫡🫡

The more I write the more appealing just doing hurt/comfort stuff becomes. There's so much to explore with the two of them, emotionally. A lot of baggage, a lot of trauma, a lot of issues.

i also think u should play ascended astarion. i’m not in camp “if you have fictional characters do a bad thing it means you’re bad”. no actually i think part of the fun of the medium of video games is being able to explore multiple sides of a character. astarion when he heals has to give up his freedom. he’s relinquished to being a spawn forever, hiding in the shadows. it’s not what he wanted. in fact, he fears it from the very beginning. it’s fucking tragic. ascended astarion gets what he thinks he wants. he’s not scared anymore, he’s free. he’s fully “himself”. (this parallels dark justiciar shadowheart So Well btw) ascended astarion is also just a terrible person. he revels in the power he has. unrestrained bloodlust. he wants to control the player character just as cazador controlled him. and when you’ve played both routes it’s also fucking tragic. when you know that he had the capacity for love and restraint of his bloodthirsty tendencies but you still let it happen. idk just thinking about astarion.

i think astarion’s primary parallel character is gale. both were victims of much more powerful beings, both are overly affectionate to the player character to hide their own wounds, both are ambitious for power. the main difference is gale is more inclined towards good while astarion is more inclined towards evil.

same with shadowheart/lae’zel parallels and karlach/wyll parallels btw. shadowheart and lae’zel have both been indoctrinated into cults around evil goddesses who want to use their genuine passion. both of them don’t want to be bad they want to be strong and do what they believe is right. they can both either remain blind or decide to wake up and renounce their god, rebel under selune or orpheus.

wyll and karlach are both beholden to the hells. they can’t get free of the desperate situations that led them to be reliant on internal power. they’ve both been villainized despite being the most inherently good characters in the game. even though both want desperately to do the right thing, they’ve both been driven by desperation and fear and pain to do the wrong things. they both feel betrayed by father figures (duke ravengard and gortash).

this turned into a ramble but anyway yeah. bg3 and narratives. finding out the “bad” endings for the characters is important too if you want to understand them.

Bg3 Adventures

Cant believe Jurge (Jack Durge) is best friends with Lae’zel. I can’t believe Lae’zel is helping Jurge (a wizard) multiclass into fighter. Cant believe Lae’zel is the only one who Jurge has told about the murder feelings. Cant believe Lae’zel is the only one Jurge trusts has their priorities straight. Cant believe Jurge takes comfort in Lae’zels ruthless priorities and purely contextual knowledge of their situation, when he fears that his mind may not be his own. Something something ‘we’ll find you a goblin to take your urges out on’. Nobody could’ve said anything more relieving! Sure, getting rid of those feelings matter to him—- but there’s no immediate way to so! if anyone gets worried about it HED BE GETTING MORE WORRIED ABOUT IT. BUT SHES CHILL SO HES CHILL. They can work with what they’ve got: Murder Feelings.

He really complain about not going to the crèche right along side her. Detours detours! To save people? REALLY? We destroyed the druids for the sake of the tieflings, can we just GO now? Oh we need to clear the path of goblins too? YECK.

Companion (Eath) tried to nonlethal a brainpuppy. He kills it in front of her seconds later. ‘It’s called exterminating pests.’ He got no mercy for those who spirited him away and twisted his memories up (lil does he know, they’ve been fucked for a while).

Companion tries to nonlethal in general. Jurge respects that for People and People Adjacent. But when Karlach COLD CLOCKS EATH instead of LISTENING TO THE NICE LIL NONLETHAL MONK, Jack is 6 consecutive magic missiles to explode her dOME. And steals all her shit. And when Eath isn’t looking pushes her unconscious body into the river. ‘Had to. For Wyll. You know?’ It was for Eath and he knows it. Didn’t tell anyone he did that.

Gets to wear Wylls ‘successfully killed karlach’ outfit. NICE. And got the killer durge cape. Looking gOOOOD. (Pics to come).

Oh god we let Rolan die we let so many people I love plotwise die how is this story gonna gO—- at least Karlachs dead cause there’s NO DAMMON.

Astarion managed to beat his death flag. If Jack knew he was a vampire (AND if he’d flirted with Jack yet, which he hasn’t as far as Jacks socially uninclined ass is aware) before he killed [redacted] he would’ve blamed it on Astarion (which ur allowed to do). BUT ALAS. HAD TO JUST. HIDE THE BODY.

Ahhhh. Planning my next plot flags. First ones for Jack were: whether Arabella dies (impacts morality), whether Astarions honest or flirty first (impacts whether he LIVES)—- next ones will probably involve ‘whether or not he sneakily separates from the group in act 2’ and ‘whether or not SHART DIES’ cause companion death seems thematic for him. We have a nonNPC companion after all. And all those hirelings—- as far as Jacks concerned, companions are disposable. Jfkgkglbl. (JACK NO WE NEED THEM FOR END GAME ALLIES AND QUESTS—)

loving absolutely enraptured by your bg3 oc. they are so fascinating and i think very beautiful and wrought with such care and attention. i love the collecting death (being with death to avoid becoming it)!!. the way you write the others too! lae’zel with eyes on the moon thinking of home… shadowheart and how dante disapproves of shar because of how obvious the scars of devotion stand on shadowheart’s skin. astarion and that dynamic - closed hand and inside could be anything, anything!! love in a lockbox in memories made of smoke. both of them in a way are that closed hand - who knows what waits inside? adore the cadence of your writing also it feels free and yet darting, like when you angle a polished spoon to make a little light dance around the walls.

thank youuuuuuuu im having a lot of fun writing fic for it !! i have more planned for it but unfortunately i have to Work :( i can’t wait to learn more about the storylines bc i feel like u know more than i do & i hope i have stumbled into accurate characterisation, im not very far along in the story at all (basically just left emerald grove to look for halsin). Dante is not very open w the companions in game yet so it makes me laugh writing outside the game but not actually picking any vulnerable conversation topics. anywho glad ur having fun !
