another message of rwrb is how it's kinda not cool to treat politicians as celebrities when they're actually like workers who work for you. like why is alex even in the plot? bc he's young and sexy and appealing and helps ellen get votes bc of that. yes, he is smart and does help her win the election bc of that but he is only there bc he is her son and him being her son helps her campaign? and like how fucked up is it that he like literally has to fight her to get her to listen to his memo, bc otherwise she just wanted him to be a prop and make her look good. and i don't mean that in an ellen is a bad mom way. just in a politics are ugly and weird way. and ellen like sort of using him in that way (despite him enjoying it or being raised to see it as the only option) is why his relationship with henry is horrifically violated the way it is.

I think there's something so different about watching night turn to day in the summer vs the winter.

In the winter, it's a slow process. It's quiet in a peaceful way, you see the light creeping in and its beautiful to witness it happen slowly but surely.

In the summer, it's stifling almost. It happens so fast, as if nature itself is telling you to hurry up, half the year is already over and time is rushing by.

And I think there's also something to be said about day turning to night, you know?

In the winter, it's so quick and suddenly the daylight is gone. It is 4pm and yet there is no sun left to see. The few short hours of sun that you had are over. They probably felt wasted.

In the summer, it stretches on. The day, the evening, the night will never end because it lasts so long. The sun is warm and honey sweet, falling in layers of sunset with every colour you've seen in all the photos and paintings.
