Keepers Of The Chaos (3)

Summary: Tam, Linh, Dex, Keefe, Biana, and Fitz are part of the tiny fandom for Keeper of the Chaos, and Tam and Linh’s podcast convinces some of their other friends to watch it as well. The group finds themselves strangely invested in this show, where students at Tumblr High School who work together to write about an elf named Sophia, cause incomprehensible chaos, and fight their rival Pinterest High School.

Content warnings: Cursing, religion (Jewish Vackers), and Amsterdam (just in case, I know that was stressful for some people).

The life of an amateur meme maker on dumbles dot com was a strange one, that was for sure. After finishing xyr favorite show- Ze-Ra: Monaerchs of Powhir- for the third time, Dex had searched for another show to fill the void in xyr soul. Biana recommended this show called "Keepers of the Chaos" and described it to xem. Xe was doubtful at first, but after watching the first episode, xe was hooked.

Xe used to not have many friends at xyr school, so xe did what every neurodivergent queer teen would do- made an account on dumbles dot com. People seemed to like xem- or at least, they liked dizznee-plus's memes and edits of Ze-Ra characters. Even after Dex befriended xyr squish, Fitz, thons sister, Biana, and aer girlfriend, Sophie, xe continued making content on dumbles. Around that time, the Ze-Ra fandom started dying off, and xyr memes started getting fewer note

In a sudden, two am burst of inspiration, Dex made edits of some of xyr favorite characters, like Ref, Akki, and Rose, with their respective pride flags (all of them bi) over them, and captioned it "we must be gay." The post blew up, or at least, what could be considered blowing up in Keeper of the Chaos's tiny fandom, and that was how Dex found xyr calling as an amateur meme/edit maker for KOTC.

History had been repeating itself, with the KOTC fandom starting to die off, until it was revived by an announcement from creator Saturn Nolastname- a season two would be released soon. Frantically, Dex made a meme about season one episode two, with the car salesman meme. Xe edited "chaos keepers" onto the car salesman, "the rarelynoticed" on the car, and "this bad boy can fit so many stripper outfits into it."

That had been... an interesting episode, to say the least. The chaos keepers had been talking about the antagonists of "Sophie and the Dark Duck"- a rebel group called the Rarelynoticed. In the information packet they'd been given, it was confirmed that the Rarelynoticed wore black cloaks and armbands, but no other clothes had been mentioned. Somehow, the chaos keepers came to the conclusion that the Rarelynoticed really wore neon pink leotards and green stripper heels, then drew this idea.

Needless to say, the Tumblr staff did not let them write that into the book. Nor did Lynn, the unofficially chosen leader of the group. Unfortunately for her, this didn't stop the chaos keepers from drawing more of these- or the fandom from making a ton of memes. In addition to the car salesman meme, a post with Drake saying no to "wearing normal fucking villain outfits" and yes to "leotards and stripper heels" gained popularity within the small fandom.

Though nothing could match the absolute shock of seeing the Rarelynoticed stripper outfit for the first time, Dex decided to rewatch the episode anyway- it was funny to see the chaos keepers freak out, and maybe xe could get some good screen captures. The good Saturn Nolastname indulged xem, and xe captured an excellent scene of most of the chaos keepers either laughing or screaming at the Rarelynoticed stripper outfits, with Kimber- one of xyr favorites- sitting on the side, explaining to Juno and Kaitee why Bianca Cracker was bisexual.

Xe went over to dumbles, posted the picture, added an image description, and captioned it "Live photo of me not caring when my friends talk about sex/romance." Xe chuckled to xemself- this really was how it felt to be aroace. Xe tagged it as aromantic and asexual as well, since dumbles added flag colors. Smiling, xe went to go check xyr notifications.

Xyr jaw dropped when xe saw that @lordofthesnuggles- Fitzroy (Dex didn't know thons middle name) Vacker thonself had liked and reblogged all three of xyr memes, even adding compliments in the tags! Xe'd had a bit of a platonic crush on Fitz for... a really long time, but xe always felt too awkward to talk to thon, so it was nice to see that thon appreciated xyr humor.

Feeling energized- and excited to procrastinate on xyr math homework- Dex went to watch the next episode: Dark Duck Is Jewish Now. Being Jewish xemself, this was a really funny episode to xem.

Lynn had been writing a sort of spinoff- it would be called fanfiction, but it was for her own story- about some of the Dark Duck characters celebrating Christmas, and added a throwaway line about Bianca and Finn Cracker celebrating Hanukkah. Then, her fiance, Shai, had taken that idea and run with it, writing a list of ideas about what would happen if the Cracker family was Jewish. Hir friend Sam had jumped on the idea, and soon they had abandoned writing the actual Dark Duck in favor of writing a story about Jewish Dark Duck characters. Some of the other Jewish chaos keepers, like Ref and Cat, helped out.

To be honest, it kind of surprised Dex that no one had made a joke about the Jewish Crackers just being matzah, so xe supposed xe would have to be the first.

Xe posted that observation, quickly getting a like from Fitz- which made xem smile. After a few minutes, Dex posted another meme: Shai and Sam standing in front of a door with a sign that read "elves don't have religion," and them saying "This sign won't stop me, because I can't read!"

It was accurate.

While that episode was great for Jewish representation, and funny, the Banana Noir episode was just plain weird.

It focused less on the Dark Duck than most of the other episodes, and was more about the crazy interactions of the chaos keepers. The episode was named for Banana Noir, who was really Cat Noir, but in a banana suit. Banana Noir was the son of Mellie, who looked like a shark, and Nora, who had platonically married faer. The mothers tried to arrange a marriage between him and Akki, who loved the side characters of the Dark Duck series. However, Akki wanted to marry Amelia. After a lot of shit that basically no one understood, Banana Noir's attempts were thwarted, and Lynn officiated the wedding between Akki and Amelia.

Yeah, Dex had no idea what the fuck was going on either. Xe'd watched an episode of Twins of the Chaos and a youtube video by arsonpog analyzing the Banana Noir chronicles, as it had been dubbed by the chaos keepers, and both expert opinions seemed to agree that Saturn Nolastname and the rest of the writers had probably been on crack when they made that episode.

The next episode made slightly more sense, though it was a low bar. After taking a break from the "official" Dark Duck story, the chaos keepers began collectively writing a Cinderella story about the characters Sophia and Bianca. People weren't allowed to be queer in the official story, but the chaos keepers still wanted to have fun with their obviously gay characters.

Even to the viewers of the show, who only received secondhand information about the Dark Duck characters, knew there was no way any of them, let alone all of them, were allocishet. The exact identities weren't entirely clear- when Dex had made edits of the characters' official art and xyr headcanons for their pride flags, a few people had disagreed- but both the chaos keepers and the fandom knew that despite what Shannon said, Sophia and Bianca were in love, and their Cinderella story should have made it in to the official Dark Duck story.

While excerpts of the Cinderella story were quoted in the show, most of it was left unclear, so Biana had taken it upon aerself to write aer own version of it. Dex was expecting an update later  that day, actually, or maybe the next. Ae wasn't always 100% reliable with aer update schedule. Still, Dex looked forward to when it eventually did come.

After the brief calmness from the Sophianca Cinderella episode, season one episode six, Amsterdam, exploded back into chaos. A few of the chaos keepers decided to discuss a fake scene in the book in which crazy shit went down, with the scene supposedly being located in Amsterdam. It had never been written and was never going to be, but everyone discussed it like it was real. Some of the highlights involved all the Dark Duck girls having swords (and the chaos keepers being gay for them), and a speedboat chase scene through the canals. Fitz had a popular theory that the chaos keepers would actually travel to Amsterdam in order to commemorate this crazy part of their lives. Almost as popular as that was a meme Dex made, with a man labeled "chaos keepers discussing amsterdam" and gesturing feverishly to a wall covered in papers and red string.

Of course, episode seven (Dark Duck Disney) was chaotic too. Everything was chaotic with this group, it was in the title. Shannon announced that the winning Dark Duck story would be adapted into a Disney movie. After past experience with terrible book to movie adaptations, the chaos keepers panicked. They panicked so much that it became major news within their school, which until then, had been largely ignoring the chaos keepers. Once the discussion about the movie settled down, they talked a lot about how in awe they were that their Dark Duck shenanigans were trending within the school.

But of course, none of that compared to the last episode of the season...

Dex changed xyr profile picture to include an ominous pair of teal eyes and sighed.

‘To Do’ List (Summer of 2022)

So, I found the ‘To Do’ list I made at the end of June/start of July. It was shoved /as I anticipated it would have been/ among my other sheets of paper haphazardly thrown into a folder. 

I’ll go through all of the points and talk about how things have been going, adding things I have done along the way to make it look like I actually did more than I planned for my own pleasure. 

1. Fix Laptop

At the start of December 2021 my laptop started getting really sad. Like, bluescreens and tells me there is no Windows installed kind of sad. I took it to a place my dad usually fixes his laptops and I got a new HDrive and a new battery because the old one said “Goodnight” one evening and stopped working. It’s pretty good, well... better than it was before, faster too.

I might have to take it to the same place again. I tried installing Genshin on it once and it BS-ed. I uninstalled it and commenced with my work but it seems that ALSO if it overheats it bluescreens again. It’s been manageable, I have a fan and everything. All data is backed up. 

(Side note I have this USB flash disk that is really messed up and all my art files/refs are there. I need to fix it and get them OUT or else I’m going to cry. I didn’t have time to back it up before the last drive died and this was the only storage unit that could suck up all 200K of my files.... Don’t ask, I’m a hentai writer and draw-er)

I don’t want to push for a new laptop of any kind because a dream for a ‘FUTURE’ experience is to have an actual PC. Doesn’t matter gaming-intended or not (probably not) that inevitably means I need to find a permanent place to stay since it’s a hassle to carry an entire PC around. Two-to-three more years this buddy needs to survive. 

Might get a new keyboard though, literally anything side-bought so far would be implemented into the new boyo anyways. And as I name all my PC periphery, I will call the new keyboard Antoine (current one being called Antonio). Guess A’s run in the family C:

2. Fix tooth

At the end of my exams I thought I found myself a cavity. Turns out my teeth are perfect (according to the dentist) and it’s one of those small cavities that is fixable with good toothpaste and mouth-wash. To be fair, the mouth-wash I got (rec by the doctor) freaking does a whale of a job but it also tastes like every medicine you will ever taste at the time time. I’m 1/3 way through the bottle and it’s SO COOL because it’s the type that comes with a pre-installed cup. You squeeze it, fill it up, sip, do your thing. I’d buy it again. 

3. Herbarium

...

I mean... I got a couple new flowers to add. 

Petals of a rose a friend of mine got me over a sleepover we had; A tiger-rose from our garden (side note, I need to go pick some of its leaves because I only managed to harvest the blossom); A damascene rose; Two types of orchids

I think I’m going to spend a while just going through the entire book sticking rice paper between the pages where the flowers would go, just to have it over with. I’ll concentrate on it over spring when everything blooms anew.

4. Go out at least once a week

Will do, that’s probably what I’ll be doing for the three or four days I’m there other than reminiscing stories/fics.

7. Finish the ZhongChi fic (Ch. 3)

Alright, okay. So, I TRIED. ‘Dragon Gazing At a Sea Of Clouds’ was a great story, I really enjoyed writing it when I was in my Childe rut days a little before getting him in Genshin. Chapter 2 - ‘The Fox That Stole The Dragon’s Heart’ was also a success that I don’t even know how I came up with. 

This entire thing was a gag, a meme I saw someone post on twitter about regarding Zhongli’s magic portable onahole (it’s a fleshlight) being connected to Childe’s backside while he’s in a meeting with the Tsaritsa. I got invested. And then pretty much slipped out of it. 

I WANT to finish it, I absolutely do. I have an outline of what will happen - their Chinese-themed wedding, their wedding night, both tied up to each other, ears, tails and horns all out in display. HORNY hours, you know?

So, I really need some stimuli to get going. I’ve been unable to play Genshin for a couple months and while I’m obsessed with KNOWING about the game (I have it on my phone), it’s been hard to get inspired. I’m doing my best, I want it to be good. It just feels like I’ve been repetitive in other fics or I somehow accidentally wrote what I intended for ZhongChi other places. 

Call it deja-vu of an unfortunate writer. 

8. Edit ‘Aster Tataricus’

That’s a future project honestly. I wrote it in December/Over Christmas and the responce was SO GOOD. The person who inspired me, Wiann on Twitter is a gem and they still follow me. I also adore watching their works in general, they have their own writing done as well and it’s *bites fist*

9. Write Ch. 2 of ‘When The Owls Cry’

I still can’t decide if I want to make it ‘Owls Cry’ or ‘Owl Cries’, both have a meaning for me.

Haven’t gotten to that part YET either, but I did go back to Chapter 1 and I redid it after the event to feature the whole eyepatch secret and sending letters.

10. Finish ‘Lullabye For My Feeble Heart’

I usually never outline works and just write them out in one breath when I figure I want to, but this one is indeed outlined. I have the entire plot ready, each chapter sorted. All I need is to execute it, but as you can see if you read everything so far - I want to finish those that are on the VERGE of completion and then latch onto longer works.

11. Finish ‘Wish Whispered Upon A Star’ 

Aye... I recently posted the chapter before the last, so we count that as progress. I’ll force myself to finish writing out my missing lectures this week, so I can spend Saturday and Sunday on that (27-28/08)

12. Take part in 2022 MXTX BDSM week

I DID, but the last story is missing, because I took a hiatus due to personal reasons. You can find the series here days 1 to 6 available.

13. Make the FengQing threadfic

Mmm... I wrote like.... two additional pages for it in my google doc and then scroll past it as if it’s a scratch that I want to itch but I just hover it instead.

14. Draw the Izora mural digitally

Haaahahahahaha.

I have to if things with CSP are getting as serious as they look. I can’t decide if I want to push around with art or press on with fics. Maybe I will take until December to complete whatever I have WITHOUT (lies) adding any new ones, so I can then concentrate on drawing again. It’s a pre-drawn thing on paper, but I want it digitally, because colouring would be so much easier.

15. Make new sketches for CandleHeart and Nyrian Thantis

I’m rather proud of those honestly. I want more portraits so I can use them on the different accounts. 

16. Write at least one fic with mermaids

I accidentally forgot about this and when I read it I was like “!!!” 

It’s on twitter, but you can check out the teaser here, because while it is complete in the sense of a thread fic, there is more that will be included in the final version that’s going to AO3.

17. Work on the VN maybe?

Yeah, this was a ‘maybe’ since the Visual Novels I have planned will be absolutely pushed back for until this problem with CSP has come to an end so I can know which programs to use and which tools to pick out.

18. Play League of Legends with M

WE DID AND IT WAS SO FUN, I love her. She’s a sweetheart. That’s all you need to know.

19. Read MDZS

I’m at... Book 2 maybe page 130. Book 3 came out not even a week ago, so I’m waiting to see which website is going to offer me that sweet, sweet money-sucking service of delivering it to me. 

20. Things I HAVE done as a side-project include

-I got to stock up on clothes I’ve been ignoring my need for.

-I ordered amazing stuff off Aliexpress and while you may think ‘How amazing CAN it be’, I’ll do a little show of them when they arrive. I’m really excited, most of all for the pins I ordered, because I want to stick out like a sore thumb with them.

-I finally bought my brother his birthday present. He’s been waiting for it for SO long. After I finish with my work tomorrow I should zoom to the other tech-shops I know are around town so I can get two more things I need and then I can proudly go back home.

-I set a goal to hit 40 fics by the end of the year, currently we’re at 34, so finishing the stuff above will probably skyrocket me above that number.

-I finally got a new phone case, needed that because the other one was falling apart.

-Got two new wrist-watches because I’ve had an itch to wear one since Autumn last year.

-I’m getting a third piercing on my ear in October.

I love how you draw your teeth and muzzles in general. Do you have any tips when it comes to drawing them?

hi!! as always, my biggest tip is to use references, but particularly photo or video reference, not drawn reference 

(long post w/ images, be warned)

jaws are pretty complex and they have a lot going on that make them pretty challenging subjects sometimes. first of all, you want to learn what the underlying bone structures (including the teeth of course) look like. find photos of animal skulls and see how it all works. here is a good reference image that shows various angles of a hyaena skull with the jaws open and closed that i found with a quick google image search. you don’t have to learn the names of each bone in the skull or anything like that but you should know roughly where everything is and where the jaw hinges. you should be able to make up a simple sketch of the skull - you can trace it if you like, the first few times (that’s what studies are for) 

take note how the reference image is angled. this view isn’t exactly side-on

focussing just on the jaws, like you asked, the good thing about jaws is that they are rigid and don’t move at all in relation to the rest of the skull, aside from the lower jaw opening and closing. the top jaw never moves, and the bottom jaw is always rigid. so while i wouldn’t recommend only going off a skeleton most of the time, it’s ok with jaws because the muscles and flesh there won’t blur the structure too much. but you still have to take lips into account, so you should look up refs of the animal’s face 

 (here is the reference image of the hyaena’s face i used but it’s a little bloody so i’ll just link it for now) 

you need to be able to look at the image and see the position of the skull beneath the flesh. hyaenas have very expressive lips, you can’t even see the top teeth. you’ll only see more when the animal is yawning or snarling. so if you want your character to seem relaxed, use the lips and the edges of the mouth to hide some teeth

 you can drastically alter the expression by drawing the lips back off the top teeth - try making a relaxed smile (more teeth hidden) vs a vicious smile (lips drawn back to flash some fangs). the fact that the underlying bone structure never moves helps, because you can just draw the jaw bones and tinker around with the lips for expressions. 

when it comes to the tongue, unless your character is sticking their tongue out of the side of their mouth, the tongue will probably just be in a neutral position. 

i couldn’t find a good ref photo for this angle, but i have a decent enough level of knowledge to be able to do a very rough sketch without a reference. for this one i’m going to stylise it anyway so accuracy isn’t as much of an issue, and shows that you can just draw jaws and leave it there 

again, the lips are the only parts that really move. it’s easier to draw the full scope of the jaws & all the teeth in a sketch, then just draw the lips passing over them to form your expression 

i don’t do the skull thing for every drawing ofc, but sometimes i need the extra help to figure out how the jaw looks when it’s open so i draw the whole thing. 

and now the final secret: you can look up interactive 3D models of skulls pretty easily online. google search ‘x skull 3D model’ and you might find something useful.

finally…. please don’t reference my art, i didn’t draw these to be a reference to people, i drew them to demonstrate what i had written about. don’t copy my art, copy skulls. skulls are good.

A BASIC GUIDE TO DIGITAL ART ON PROCREATE

okay so i joined the digital art scene about a year or so ago and it has been a total whirl! there’s so much stuff that’s so confusing and hard to understand at first. And that’s okay! A stupid amount of what constitutes as “good” or “complex” art is to do with layers, patience and experience. 

and because literally every tutorial on here is for Paint Tool Sai i thought it might be useful for those of us using Procreate! because i don’t have sai and i have a relatively shit laptop by comparison to my Ipad.

so without further ado - here is how to make a KICKASS piece of art on procreate 

1.  REFERENCE + SKETCH

the first thing you're gonna wanna do is collect any references you need for thing youre tryna make. you can collect references by finding stock images, using other artists work (i use these mostly for colour refs cause i SUCK at finding good colours). however when i make art nowdays i usually just snap a selfie and use that. for this work i did the last option (see below)

after grabbing my reference i decide on the style i wanna use. for beginer artists what i suggest doing is just pasting the image onto your canvas, opening layers and adjust the opacity to around 20% by clicking on the little N on your layer with the photo. then once thats done add a new layer by clicking the + and work over that

for more experienced artists experimenting with style just stick that bad bitch reference in the corner, then open a new layer and sketch in your own style.

when it comes to sketching i usually do little flicky lines. i do this with a mid grey (like 50% white 50% black) i recommend the “Narinder pencil” which you can find by clicking the little brush at the top, selecting sketching and then selecting that bad boy. you can adjust size and opacity using the sliders to the side of the screen.

when sketching you just wanna get a rough idea of where you’re gonna do your eventual lines - don’t worry about it being smooth or anything just get down where everything goes 

once you’re done you might have something like this:

2. LINE ART 

for beginners - lineart is just a sexy word that means a clean drawing with hard lines so you can colour it easier and it looks prettier. you want to do this on a new layer so you can delete the sketch one later.

your goal with lineart is to make it three things:  1) its gotta be seamless so you can select the insides, don’t leave little gaps between lines 2) its gotta be smooth! jagged lineart isn’t NEARLY as sexy as smooth curvy lines 3) this one is more of a tip - but lineart generally looks better if you do thinner lines inside your shape with a slightly thicker border line. again this isn’t essential but i find it looks cuter 

the way i get my lineart all cute is by using the monoline brush (found in calligraphy). sometimes i use my own modified version of the Technical Pen (found in Inking) but mostly monoline is pretty neat. You can use whatever brush you want but mostly you just wanna ensure that its nice and smoooooth. you can do this by selecting the brush and then clicking it again. this will bring up a popup menu like this:

most of these brush settings are complicated and stupid and i’ll do a big post about it later. the only one that really matters here is streamline. if you wanna use a different brush for lineart just wack that slider up between 80-100% and you’re set.

once your lineart is finished on a seperate layer go to your layer menu and unselect the little tick on your sketch layer. you should be left with something like this. 

3. ADDITIONAL DETAIL LINEART + MONOCHROME BASES.

once your focus lineart is done you can add detailed lineart by repeating the same process with sketching and lineart i described above. i like to do details separate because if i dont like it i can just delete the whole layer without destroying my focus. 

what i find important in these now is using my favourite fuckin tool in this whole program. you can find it here:

Only start using this once youre 100% done with your lineart. once thats done - make sure youre on the lineart layer and click that weird little s at the top of the screen. go to the bottom and click automatic. then select somewhere INSIDE your lineart. it should do something like this:

don’t freak out! what that blue stuff means is that you've just selected the inside bit of your lineart. continue selecting until your subject is 100% coloured in. 

MAKE SURE THE BACKGROUND/STUFF OUTSIDE YOUR LINEART ISN’T SELECTED. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU’VE SELECTED THE LINES THEMSELVES. THEY WILL TURN WHITE ONCE THEYRE SELECTED. if u fuck up and select something by accident that’s all g, theres a little undo button on the bottom. if you click on the paint brush or another tool and you cant add stuff to your selection you can reload the mask by holding down on the weird s and the selection will reload. If there are certain bits of your work that you’re struggling to select with automatic selection that’s also not an issue. just click the “freehand” setting next to the automatic setting on the bottom and you can now use your stylus to draw around what you want to select.

once you’ve selected your foreground in its entirety - THEN click the layer button. insert a new layer underneath your lineart layer. Using literally any brush (works best if you get one from the painting section) colour EVERYTHING white. just get round brush and colour all of it. you wanna keep your line art layer separate over the top.

once all of it is coloured hold down on the weird s tool until it reloads the selection. then look along the bottom of the screen and click the little button that looks like 2 arrows pointing at each other. THIS INVERTS YOUR SELECTION. Open a new layer and make this entire thing a grey. THIS IS WHOLE STEP IS OPTIONAL BUT ITS SUPER USEFUL AND THE SELECTION TOOL IS SUPER HELPFUL FOR GOOD ART. DOING THIS WILL BE SUPER USEFUL WHEN YOU COLOUR STUFF LATER.

once you’re done it should look something like this:

4. BASE COLOURS

okay so this is where shit starts to get real. The goal of putting down base colours is to make is easier to add eventual shading to your piece and decide your colour scheme. This is where the white layer you just used is gonna become your BITCH.

you wanna start by duplicating your white layer you just made. You do that by opening your layer menu and swiping that thot to the left. this is what should happen:

click duplicate. Select the top duplicate you just made and select our favourite weird s tool. click inside your shape and the whole white shape should go blue (become selected). next, open a new layer on top of the white layer. colour in your base colours and now none of it can go outside the lines. you didn’t even have to do a billion selections. you just select inside the white blob on the layer we made the step before, opened a new layer and started colouring. fucking superb. so much time saved. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I USED TO SUFFER BEFORE I THOUGHT OF THIS. HOW LONG I SPENT SELECTING AND RESELECTING I CANNOT

A TIP FOR PEEPS NEW TO THIS PROGRAM - if you use your finger and hold down on a colour you’ve just used it acts like an eyedropper tool so you can pick up any colour you want. like this:

once you got your base colours done you can either: 1) go to your grey layer you made in the last step and select the tick next to it. once you’ve done that scroll to the bottom of your layers and select background. it will open a colour wheel. pick your background colour. 2) you can use my second favourite tool from this program! go to your grey layer you made in the previous step. click on it, then click on it again. (not the little n just click the whole layer) this menu should pop up:

oh MAN okay so. “alpha lock” pretty much means that it locks whatever is on the layer. when you get another brush and go over a layer with alpha lock turned on you can only paint over what you have previously put on the layer before turning on alpha lock. Its like automatically selecting everything on the layer. its fucking brilliant. anyway. scribble over your grey layer (once alpha lock is on) and boom you have a base for your background.

NOW YOU KNOW ABOUT ALPHA LOCK YOU GO BACK TO YOUR LINEART LAYER. SELECT ALPHA LOCK. COLOUR IN YOUR LINES ROUGHLY 2 OR SO ISH SHADES DEEPER THEN YOUR BASE COLOURS 

(minus eyes i like to keep the lines around them black.)  this will make your art like 100000000 times nicer (majority of the time)

once you’re done you should get something like this:

5. SHADING!!!!!!! this is my favourite step tbh.

what you wanna do is chuck on a new layer over the top of your base colours. and go into your brushes. pick up your basic bitch “round brush.” this is (in my opinion) the best painting brush in the program. Its the thing you can do the most with. so what you wanna do it get a slightly deeper colour from your colour wheel by yeeting your colour selection slightly more saturated and slightly more dark. dont just make it blacker move your colour selector on a diagonal to get a nicer colour. (i’ll eventually do a colour theory ref but today is NOT that day.)

i like to do colouring in short, light strokes. DON’T PRESS TOO HARD. you wanna get that cute little gradient.

A THING FOR BABY ARTISTS: on every art program i have ever used, the blending tool SUCKS. it makes paintings UGLY AF. (wow another tutorial i have to do at some point. i HATE the blending tool. SO HERE IS HOW I COLOUR MY ART TO MAKE IT LOOK, YKNOW, GOOD:

Unless you’re drawing something SUPER freaking smooth like a bubble or some shit. when you wanna blend colours what you gotta do is: 1) put in your darker colour. 2) use your finger to bring up the eyedropper tool to select a mid colour of the colours your blending together - a mix between your lighter and darker colour. (remember that tool? it looks like this)

3) Paint the colour you just made in the middle of your lighter and darker shades. REPEAT THIS PROCESS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE COLOUR YOU JUST PUT DOWN TILL IT LOOKS GOOD. The result is an WAY sexier piece of art.

once you’ve put in all your shadows repeat the same process with highlights.

FUN TIP: if you decide you dislike a colour or want to change the colour you already did all the shading for you can change the colour without any major drama. You can do this by select ing the colour on your colour wheel you would like to change your already shaded work too. (make sure you’re on the right layer.) then hold down on the colour dot on the top bar (next to your layer settings) and drag it to whatever you want recoloured. let go of the dot and it should recolour your work (including all the shading you’ve done granted that its on the same layer) like this:

6. background and pretty bits

so! youve got this kickass work but nothing surrounding it. lets fix that.

In procreate there is SO MUCH you can use to spice up a work. a SCARY amount even. this is when layer settings are gonna start to come in handy.

ill do a masterpost on procreate brushes for backgrounds later, but for this piece what im gonna do it head over to the Luminescence section and pick up a “nebula brush”. this makes a complex galaxy kinda design in a randomised stamping pattern that is frankly SEXY AS ALL HELL. Select a layer below your base colours but above your background colour. IMPORTANT NOTE: this brush’s blend mode is autimatically set to “add” (ILL DO ANOTHER POST ON THAT LATER)which means if you go over the same spot heaps of times it will eventually go a bright white. This can be nice, but its not really what i want cause its kinda intense. to make this thing go glowy but not ~too~ glowy im gonna lower the brush opacity (the bottom slider) to around half way. i set my colour to a light yellow and a darkish pink and put in some nebulas!!!! once that was done I wantd to add some more colour variation so i popped open a new layer - selected the lightleak tool and lowered the brush opacity using the slider to around 20% just to spice some shit up

you can kinda do whatever you want for your background. sometimes its nicer just to go into artistic, select a random brush and draw a square underneath what you were doing. backgrounds can be super detailed or super easy it doesn’t really matter to be 100% honest.

THE PART 2 OF THIS STEP WILL ADD HEAPS OF DIMENSION TO YOUR WORK AND MAKE IT SUPER PRETTY: adding light effects over the TOP of your main subject often creates a more realistic sense of depth. In simple terms it just makes the thing look more 3D and nice. to do this, get a random brush with a nice (preferably light) colour. i picked up a “bokeh brush” from the Luminescence section. make this pretty big. sprinkle your brush across the page on a NEW LAYER above all of your work so far, including line art! Then open your layer menu and click that little n in the corner again. Remember this one:

click the little n. then go down to the bottom and select a layer setting from either of the 2 groups circled (i normally like overlay for this type of thing) you can mess around with layer settings and opacity till you find something that looks super nice. My piece now looks like this:

pretty cool right. now we’re gonna make it EVEN COOLER.

7. LIGHT FILTERS

this is something i picked up from artists like softmushie and cryptidw00rm. (not gonna @ them here cause they probs dont wanna get tagged in my shitty tutorial thing but yeah i owe so much to those two especially)

for those unsure of what im talking about: light filters are layers you add over work to make the lighting on it seem more natural and pretty. you do this by colouring over your natural highlights and shadows with different colours and then messing with the layer settings to make it seem like its being hit by sunlight. these layers go BELOW your foreground stuff (the bokeh lights from step 6) but ABOVE your lineart.

start by opening a new layer. select a colour similar to where the green outlines are here:

now on this layer paint over anywhere where the sun or other light source would be normally hitting (like cheekbones hair etc.) this can be kind of like shading. dont worry if it looks shit at first we’re gonna change it.

open a new layer beneath the one you just made. Using a colour similar to one circled in purple above colour over all the shadows in a piece. it should now look like this:

now open your layer settings on the purple/darker  layer by selecting the N like we did with the foreground layer before. you can play around from here by setting the layer mode to anything from the “darken” or “contrast” menu. For this work i chose overlay. I then lowered the opacity until it looked nice.

Repeat the step above with the lighter highlight layer. when adjusting this one make sure you set the layer mode to anything from the “lighten” or “contrast” menu. For this work i did hard light.

Sigh Not So

this was not requested, but i missed my boy race, so here’s a (long) fic based on my favourite scene from much ado about nothing, which is my favourite shakespeare play. it’s also heavily inspired by a modern re-imagining of the play, which i am in love with, called nothing much to do. 10/10 would recommend watching, even if you’re not an english lit nerd like me. enjoy! <3 (PS if u can spot the quote from the original that i squeezed in near the end, then you’re legally required to marry me, sorry i don’t make the rules) (also the title is a ref to a quote from the play, i’m a nerd sorry)

It felt a bit melodramatic to call Race Higgins your enemy, but it was near enough to the truth. The truth was that you had liked him, once, maybe even more-than-liked him, but, as you grew older, the qualities you had once liked in him became obnoxious. It used to loosen you up when he made stupid jokes about whatever was happening, but now he was little more than a class clown who couldn’t take anything seriously. As you grew up, friendly roasts began to sound a little more serious, and, by the end of high school, he was the nearest thing you had to a sworn enemy.

You managed to fight with him about anything, from the correct translation of your Latin homework to the DC and Marvel cinematic universes. It was fun, sometimes, but mostly just exhausting. Sometimes, you wondered if it wouldn’t just be easier to get along, for your friends’ sake, if not for your own, but then he would make some ridiculous comment about how Parks and Rec was better than The Office and you would remember that he was the worst.  

He was annoying at track practices, when his hair was impossibly curly, and his eyes glittered with happiness, and he insisted that his team needed half of your soccer pitch to practice for field events. He was annoying in class, when he argued with the teacher about the underlying racism in Anthony and Cleopatra and, sure, he may have been right, but who cared about correctness when you went about an argument in the completely wrong way.

(“You,” Katherine would say every time that you brought this up. “You care about correctness, especially when it’s opposing Shakespeare.”

You ignored her. What mattered was that it was Race arguing with the teacher, and he was always wrong, even when he was right.)

He was especially annoying at parties, when he’d flirt with anyone who breathed – except you, of course. The way he nonchalantly joked with everyone else, and pretty much ignored your existence, except to tease you about your hair or something you had said, made your blood positively boil.

(And, Davey was wrong: you weren’t jealous of anyone, not even a little bit.)

He annoyed you at parties, but his absence from Jack Kelly’s annual Halloween party left a gaping hole. You were dressed as Jim Kirk, from Star Trek, and you had expected him to tease you as soon as you got to the party, insist that you had yourself pegged wrong and that you were definitely more of an expendable red shirt, than a royal yellow. You would respond in kind, with a snarky comment about how he had less personality than a Vulcan commander and all would be right in the world.

But, he didn’t show. Or, if he did, he managed to keep quiet the entire night which, considering who you were dealing with, just made the former more likely. Towards the end of the night, you found yourself leaning against a wall in the living room, talking to a girl that you kind of knew, dressed as Wednesday Addams, and a boy that you didn’t recognise, in a full Batman costume, face-covering cowl, and everything. Maybe, you had had a little too much of the definitely not kid-friendly punch that Romeo had whipped up, or maybe you were just tired, but, when the conversation lulled, Race popped into your mind.

“Hey, you haven’t seen Higgins around tonight, have you?”

“No,” the boy answered, clearing his throat. “I mean, no, I haven’t. Why?”

Maybe it was the alcohol, but you were almost certain that his voice was pitched a little lower than it had been earlier in the conversation. You frowned, it was probably the alcohol.

“No reason, I just feel like everyone’s here and he’s, like, not. It’s weird. And, it’s so uncharacteristic of him to let a night go by where he’s not the centre of attention.”

You winced a little at the harshness in your tone, and the boy must have picked up on it, too.

“You’re being kind of hard on him, don’t you think?”

You rolled your eyes.

“No, I’m giving him the same treatment he gives me, all the time. And, besides, it’s not like I haven’t tried to get to know him – it’s not my fault he’s the biggest douche canoe this side of Canada.”

You couldn’t see the boy’s face in his costume, but you thought that he might have been frowning.

“What do you mean ‘tried to get to know him’? From what I’ve heard he’s a pretty dope guy.”

You scoffed. Did people still say dope?

“Dude, I think I would know. We used to be really good friends, like, maybe even best friends when we were in middle school, and then I guess he just lost interest, like he always does. He’s got the attention span of a studious gold fish, I swear.”

“Well, did you ever talk to him about it? Maybe, it was just a miscommunication kind of thing.”

“Ugh, as if. If he stopped talking to me, it isn’t my job to figure out what his issue is. I just,” you huffed in frustration. “We’re all here, having a good time and making fools of ourselves and he’s just missing in action. Although, I bet if he did come to this party, he’d be dressed as Peter Pan, the boy who never fucking grows up.”

The boy flinched, and you wondered for a second if you had gone too far.

“That’s harsh. You should try to give him a chance, maybe he actually wants to try to get to know you, again,” he said, before drifting off like some mysterious faerie. You weren’t sure when during the conversation the girl had left, but, soon, you were standing alone. You stood there for a moment longer, wondering idly about who that guy thought he was, anyway. You finished the drink in your cup and sauntered off to find some more of that magic punch, not giving the boy in the Batman costume a second thought.

The conversation only drifted through your mind again the next morning, when you woke up, groggy and confused, on Jack’s couch. Maybe you were a little harsh, but you had given Race the benefit of the doubt, once upon a time. He had been one of your closest friends, once upon a time.

You still remembered the last proper conversation that you had had with him. You were twelve, sitting in your bedroom and playing video games, when he paused the screen and turned to you with an oddly determined look on his face. He asked if you had heard the rumour that someone was spreading around school, that you and he were dating. You said you had, still a little confused,  and he gave you this intense, unforgettable look, before asking what you thought of it all. You laughed at the idea, telling him, perhaps a little dishonestly, that it was super gross. He was like your brother, you said. You didn’t think much of it, at all. Why would he care, anyway? He had that pretty girl, Zoey. Finch had said that he had seen them holding hands at Sarah J’s party, so you didn’t want to ruin anything for him by admitting that you sometimes wished that the rumours were true. You pressed play and kicked his ass in Tekken. 

The next Monday, at school, he acted like nothing was wrong, but, after that, the pair of you started to drift apart. You stopped playing video games together, playful barbs became antagonism and, by the time you reached high school, you had nothing left of the friendship that you had once shared. It was sad, sure, but you weren’t a chaser. If Race didn’t want to be your friend, then so be it.

You didn’t think again about the conversation with Batman boy, or what you might have done wrong to get Race to hate you, until a few nights later, when you were sitting at home alone. You were trying to convince yourself to get up and get something done, maybe cook dinner or do your homework, for once, but, instead you were scrolling through your unexciting Instagram feed. You idly double tapped on a few photos, exhaled out of your nose in lieu of laughter at some stupid memes, and then you reached a picture that Albert had posted, from the weekend’s party. It was him and a couple of other boys grinning at the camera and you were about to scroll past, when you saw a familiar costume. It was yellow and black, with the tell-tale Batman logo on the front, but, this time, the wearer had the hood off. Shit. Shitshitshit. There, in the Batman costume was Anthony Higgins. You had accidentally complained about him to him. Sure, you and Race weren’t the best of friends, but you didn’t want him to think you were an asshole.

You fumbled to your contacts app and called Katherine. She’d know what to do, you were sure of it. After she had got done laughing at you, she offered you a solution: Talk to Race and apologise for what you had said. You knew, logically, that that was your only option, but you really wished that the world would end before you had to apologise to Race Higgins. You couldn’t stomach texting him and figured that you could just grab him after school the next day.

The day went by a little too fast, and, before you knew it, the bell had rung to signal the end of your last lesson. You resigned yourself to your fate and made you way to Race’s locker, which was just a few doors down from yours. He was alone, thankfully, and looked more than a little surprised to see you heading his way.

“Hey,” you tried to smile when you reached him, but you were sure it came across as more of a grimace.

“Hi,” he answered, barely looking at you as he moved books from his locker to his bag.

“Race,” you tried again, putting a hand on his forearm to stop his fairly violent rifling. “Can I talk to you for a minute?” He glanced down at where your hand touched his arm and sighed, turning to you, looking a little deflated.

“Fine. What’s up?”

You took a deep breath.

“Look, I didn’t know it was you that I was saying that shit to at Jack’s. And, I know it was shitty of me to be saying that to anyone, but I didn’t mean most of it. You’re on my nerves half the time, and making fun of me the other half, but that was mean. I’m sorry.”

He looked shocked, and a little pensive.

“It’s, um. It’s okay, Y/N. It just made me kind of sad that we aren’t friends anymore. I mean, we were good together.”

He met your eyes, and you were struck by how much you had missed the way they shined when he was being sincere.

“Yeah, uh, me too. We made a good team. I miss that.”

He looked like he was going to say something else, when Albert came up behind him and put two hands on his shoulders.

“Race and Y/N? Having a civil conversation? I’m entering the lottery on the way home, because today is a day for miracles.”

Race rolled his eyes at you and you laughed.

“Fuck off, DaSilva, you’re not even old enough to get a ticket,” he said jerking the boy’s hands off his shoulders.

“Yeah,” you agreed. “And you waste enough money buying coffee to flirt with Elmer at Jacobi’s.”

“Nice,” Race laughed high-fiving you, and Albert stuck his tongue out at you, before stalking off because he didn’t have a good comeback to dispute the truth.

There was a beat of silence, and before it started to get awkward, Race spoke again.

“Uh, if you’re serious about being friends again, we should hang out some time, maybe go to the arcade?”

You smiled at him, brightly.

“You sure that’s a good idea, Higgins? I’ll smoke you in ice hockey, like I always used to.”

“Uh, you wish. I’m the ice hockey king, baby.”

You punched him in the shoulder and made plans for that weekend. That had gone better than you had expected.

It wouldn’t have been true to say that you had changed your mind about Race right away. You had fun with him, from that first day at the arcade, onwards. It was still a little awkward and there was always a little tension in the room, but you worked through it. You were seniors, you could be mature, if you tried.

(Although maturity certainly seemed to be in short supply when you and Race giggled, together, at the matching sixty-nines that you got on your history pop quizzes, or when he whispered “that’s what she said” in your ear at almost every sentence that came out of Mr Bunsen’s mouth in bio.)

You didn’t hate him, not that you ever really had. You hated that, now, his stupid jokes made you laugh, because you were included in them. You hated the warmth you felt in your chest when you said something that made him laugh, and you especially hated that crinkle at the corner of his eyes when he smiled at you, sincere and earnest.

You, realised, gradually, that you and Race had never been enemies – you just responded to what you thought was his hate in kind. It was easier to keep roasting one another, when neither one of you broke the cycle. That conversation at the party had been a turning point, for both of you.

Although, you still seemed unable to talk about the elephant in the room. You and Race never discussed how the animosity had begun between the two of you. Bringing it up would force you both to admit how stupid you had been, and neither of you were very skilled at admitting fault. It was easier to ignore it, to dance around it, than it was to deal with it. It was on your mind more often, now.

You wondered what had really happened, because something had to have happened, right? The more you thought about it, the more it made sense. People don’t just stop being friends and turn to enemies, like flicking a switch, especially not two fiercely loyal people, like you and Race. You didn’t mention it, though, for fear that you would slip back into old habits.

You liked Race, you realised, even if the two of you were incapable of having a conversation about emotions. You grinned at one another in private moments of understanding, warm with that feeling you get when you spend time with someone who has the exact same sense of humour as you. It was really good to be his friend again, until it wasn’t.

The argument had started by accident. Race was coming over on a Thursday, after school to work on a project for history. You were determined to get better than a sixty-nine for this one, even if that was the golden number. When Race had rung the doorbell, your mum had welcomed him in, pleasantly surprised to see him. You always had a feeling that she was sadder about your losing Race than you were. She was convinced that the two of you were soulmates, even when you were kids in the playground. She called it a mum’s intuition. You called it heteronormativity, but, anyway.

She chatted his ear off as she waited for you to come downstairs, talking about how much she had missed having a boy around, and how glad she was that the two of you had patched everything up. You caught the tail end of the conversation as you made your way down the stairs.

“What ever happened between you two, anyway?” your mum had asked, innocently enough.

Race laughed uncomfortably.

“Oh, I guess she just got too busy for me. I’m glad we’re friends again, now, though.”

Your mum agreed, and you fumed. Almost as soon as you had pulled your bedroom shut behind you, you gave him A Look. He was alarmed.

“What?” he asked.

“What do you mean ‘what’? Do you seriously think it’s my fault that we stopped being friends?”

He scratched the back of his neck uncomfortably.

“Oh, about what I said to your mom? I mean, yeah, it kind of was. You stopped inviting me over or replying to my texts, so I just figured you were busy,” he sounded unsure of himself.

“You stopped talking to me, Race. Was I supposed to be super nice to you when you always acted like you’d rather be anywhere else when I was in the same room as you?”

He scoffed.

“Are you being for real? We were fine, we were doing great, and then you started hanging out with Katherine or Davey instead of me, which is fine, but it was so not my fault.”

“You pretty much begged for space that day when you asked me about the stupid rumours about us dating, or whatever!”

He ran a hand through his hair.

“I cannot believe we’re talking about this. We were twelve, we were stupid!”

“And, now, you’re deflecting,” you replied. “We were best friends, Race. I just wanna know what happened between us.”

He sighed and flopped on your bed like a petulant child. His blue eyes were stormy, and they looked familiarly intense.

“Fine, it was kind of my fault, I guess.”

You kept yourself from fist pumping.

“It’s just, I felt so stupid!” he continued.

“What do you mean?” you asked, gently, this time, sitting at his feet on the bed.

“So, that day? When I asked you about the stupid middle school rumours?”

You nodded, motioning for him to go on.

“I had the biggest crush on you, and I figured that that was your way of letting me down easy. I was like your brother, right? It sucked. And, whenever we hung out, after that, I just felt so frustrated. I was mad at me, for being stupid and catching feelings and making everything weird between us, but I guess it was easier to just lash out at you. It was dumb, but I don’t think I like anything in the world as much as I like you, you were the first person that I ever felt any anything for. It sucked.”

He scrunched his eyes shut and looked ready to disappear.

“Wait,” you said, still processing his words. “’Like’, as in, present tense?”

He sat up straight.

“I – what?”

“You said like, like present tense like, like currently like.”

He cleared his throat and his eyes scanned the room, as he searched the walls for something.

“Uh, slip of the tongue, whatever. You said like way too many times just then.”

You waved your hand. Semantics.

“Do you, um, like me, as in like-like me, present tense like me, Race?”

He sputtered for a moment, and then swallowed drily.

“I guess, it’s stupid. It kind of never went away, if you can believe it.”

You could believe it. It wasn’t hard to believe, since you could relate. He was waiting, nervously, for you to say something, but your words didn’t seem to be working. Instead of speaking, you moved across the bed, so that you were sitting next to him, both of your heads leaning against the wall.

“I, um,” you took a deep breath. “Uh, same.”

His head snapped to yours and he searched your eyes for humour. He sighed, shakily, and then let out a soft laugh.

“’Same?’ I practically confess my love to you and all you’ve got is ‘same’?”

His eyes twinkled with mirth.

“Well, what else do you want me to say?” you protested. “That I don’t hate you? That I never wanted to hate you? I just figured that you didn’t want to be my friend, anymore.”

“God. We are idiots.”

“Yep,” you agreed.

You sat in silence for a moment, letting the realisation of what you had just admitted wash over you. Race suddenly turned to you.

“So, what happens now?”

You shrugged, still not meeting his eyes. You weren’t sure what you were nervous about now, but the tumble of feelings in your stomach insisted that looking at Race’s eyes would ruin you, so you stared at the white wall in front you.

“Because,” he said, putting a hand on your knee like he was bracing himself. “I kinda wanna make out with you, like, romantically?”

A laugh bubbled out of you and you turned to him, finally. You had been wrong, before, about the consequences of meeting his eyes. They weren’t storm-blue anymore. They were blue like the sky on a sunny a day. They were blue like the ocean, when you’ve spent months away from the sea. They were a sight to behold.

You turned your whole body to face him and gently slipped a hand to the back of his neck, playing with the blonde curls there. You leaned into him, and just before your lips met his, you muttered a word, just loud enough for him to hear.

“Same.”

You leaned in and kissed him, with years’ worth of hidden feelings, and he smiled against your lips. You pulled away after a bit and looked at his eyes. His pupils were blown wide, but they were as blue as ever. You wondered how you had ever pretended to dislike eyes as beautiful as his.

I don’t really have any specific genres other than comedy [and sometimes horror/tragedy; I don’t have many plans yet], so take these other things/tropes I like!

--About, Pt. II

I have always been drawn to the creative nature of things, but writing is my first and strongest passion. Novels, poetry, short stories, podcasts, fanfiction, tv shows, movies--I have tackled them all! I have been writing for as long as I can remember, but only taught myself screenwriting about half a year ago. I still have much to learn about, well, everything to do with writing, but lurking around the writeblr community has taught me enough to jump back in. 

I also have been interested in the cinema world for as long as I can remember, but only started to research it about six months ago. I want to study to become a foley artist, film director, or a cameraperson--anything film-related, actually. I’m also very interested in photography, so I’ll share some photos here as well! 

I also do have a lot of fandom interests, too! A lot of it has to do with the MCU since I’ve begun to hyperfixate on it, but there may be others I’ll write for/talk about! 

This is also sort of my personal blog, despite being a side one--my main is @romeshifting, but it’s pretty much dead at this point and I’m not using it anytime soon. However, I will be following from there because I can’t switch this one to a main and don’t want to make a new account.

--Blog Things

So, you may be wondering what happened, considering this is my third writeblr intro. You also may be wondering especially what has changed, considering how I’m now themed very differently. 

I had a particular WIP [the WIP that must not be named] that I was very interested in. However, it brought constant stress and guilt over it being what I actually wanted to write. While I still love the idea, it wasn’t something I actually wanted to put out there, so it dragged me down and made me unmotivated. So I deleted any posts regarding it [as well as any posts that I just didn’t like], as you do. 

I don’t currently have any WIPs I’m working on. However, I bring you a character living in my head that needs to pay rent--Pastel McCallian! [She/Her + Ey/Em pronouns]

What I am going to do with her remains a mystery, but look at her!! I will sum her up by saying she is the purest person ever. You could spill soup in eir lap and ey would apologize! /ref

--Blog Things, Pt. II

Writer habits [among other things]! --I write using Fade In or Google Docs [sometimes even in Discord if I’m feeling tired/unproductive] --I adore putting in details and foreshadowing; I just want to know that I put thought into things I write --I am a pantser, but will plan characters and the world first --I firmly believe in Comic Sans supremacy [look I can’t write in anything else anymore] --I also use this piece of writing advice--it has seriously improved my writing! I also use the egg theory [can’t find the exact post, but it has to do with writing around details instead of just outright stating them] and the advice that none of my characters can state the whole truth.  --I also write fanfiction sometimes, but I doubt that’ll make its way to this blog--my A03 is pretty empty rn fdsjlkjds

1. Yeah, i don't pretend not to like people, so. I generally like people but it's bad for me these days w the present order of the society so I'm highly disapproving of the conditions, so it could seem mean but really I'm just actually SUPER NICE N KIND, so nice n kind I can't be okay w things being fucked up for people. I'm aware other such kind people are to occur as mean here, grumpy, grouchy, other things. I'm not grouchy or a grump but I'm intolerant of things being bad. I think some other people are supposed to be this here in this reality, which is actually a false reality, but the devil messes it up. I don't occur as so mean, but I can occur to say things that seem mean, really just intolerant of things being ridiculously bad for people. The devil keeps trying to take my thoughts as im writing. Anyway I actually liked mean people here in devil world because it meant they were intolerant of things being not okay and it meant they weren't just gonna go along w anything. But people are w the tiny house movement, etc supposed to be able to have self sufficiency w things like rain water collection, solar power, things like a working toilet option. They don't have to rely on the government . "I have to help. I know that's the end of the government that someone did that," someone said in my mind. But w a garden, a place to store food, self sustaining options like wood, etc, even gas for to run things, people don't need utilities or to rely on the government to live. They can be free of the government , which is really the devil trying to make it so people are not able to be, ie not able to be what they are. They are to be forced to do things arranged for or approved for by others to get money to live. They are enslaved to the dollar, enslaved to forced labor, enslaved to government operations like utilities to just live. But they can break free by trying to secure their own land n dwelling or shelter n food supply n energy supply such as from trees they could use for wood or a oil/gasoline/fuel source. Word Count: 1766 Notes: HOLY SHIT SPOILERS FOR EP.35 I loved the particular confrontation too much to not write about it. I feel that Mir would be more hostile about it since she’s been through something similar. I’ve been really struggling with the end and it kinda shows so sorry about that.

It was the moment of truth for us now. I hid underneath the stairs of the school. It was almost noon and soon our blackmailer was going to make her appearance. My heart was pounding, fists were clenching. My emotions were just begging to come out now. I needed this confrontation for Iris’ sake.

“Take deep breaths.” Nathaniel whispered.

I glanced up at him for a moment. He was oddly calm. I felt his hands push my hair out of my face. His small gestures were calming me down, little by little. I realized just then how much I was grateful to have him by my side in this. By now, I should be used to having his support.

It still amazes me how much I am supported for my actions. As impulsive they can be at times.

“Come on, lets go.”

I gave a nod as the two of us left our hiding spot to Iris’ locker. Hearing a locker door open only hastened our steps. We had to reach her, now. My daily runs and track background made me faster so I was the first to approach the scene. My eyes widened at the familiar figure.

Then they slowly lowered into a glare.

“So it was you.” I said.

Her face looked white as a sheet to my presence. I glared at her with all the hatred I could muster. She quickly covered it up with her usual emotionless look.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about Gallade.” she spoke.

“Oh really?” I asked, making sure she clearly felt my sarcasm, “Then what are you doing at Iris’ locker?”

“This is my locker, I don’t know what you-”

Both of us were startled by a hand hitting the locker. I turned to look that Nathaniel had indeed caught up and held his hand at the locker door, preventing her from trying to close it.

“It says ‘Iris’ right on the door! Do you need reading classes Charlotte?”

I don’t think Charlotte was expecting for Nathaniel to be so blunt in his emotions now. He wasn’t the overly polite boy she first knew him as.

“You disgust me, truly.” he said.

I had to hold back a wince at his words. He was now displaying that cold side he has when he was legitimately angry.

I shook my head while digging out the earring I found last night. Once she saw that, Charlotte’s face paled. Her hand instinctively went to her other earring.

“I know you’ve been blackmailing Iris, Sweet-Queen. How dare you even threaten her? Even as going as far to ruin Iris’ reputation? Over a boy?”

“You have no proof.”

“Oh, but we do. We know about those little mysterious messages you’ve been sending to her. Armin has a copy of them on a usb drive and we have physical copies. You might as well just admit it.”

Seeing her face blanch made me grin.

Then she went into her reasoning. How she didn’t want to lose her boyfriend over a ‘loser’ like Iris. Like Iris intentionally was doing that to her. She explained she just saved those suggestive photos off her boyfriend’s computer and used it to get revenge on Iris.

I felt sick listening to her.

“That’s enough!” I screamed.

I punched the locker door, making both her and Nathaniel jump. I was breathing hard. Gone was the Ami who was cautious in not wanting to cause conflict.

“How fucking dare! How dare you think you’re justified in your actions? Iris knew nothing about your relationship. And even if she did, you have no right to take it as far as you did. If you want to blame someone, blame your dumb as shit boyfriend. He played both of you.”

I remembered how broken down Iris looked in the past few days. How she cried about getting a bad grade. Even how she completely lost herself when we went to her house. I couldn’t forget her sadness. In my moment of anger, I was a bit amazed that despite all of that Iris was still here.

Sad and betrayed, but she was still around.

My hands balled into a fist, ready to strike. I wanted Charlotte to feel physically what Iris felt emotionally. In Charlotte’s face, I saw the girls who threw me into the shower stalls and drenched me. Those same girls who pulled and yanked on my hair intending for it to come out in clumps. It was why Iris’ situation felt so personal to me. Once upon a time, I was the target because I got close to a boy that was apparently “off limits to a loser”.

And it wasn’t even my intention.

In much the same way, I wanted to be the one to defend Iris the way she should be defended. The small sadist in me reveled at the thought of breaking Charlotte’s face in with my hands. Feeling the bone give way to my blows. My left arm was poised and ready to strike.

Or it would have it wasn’t for Nathaniel holding me back.

“Ami, no. She’s not worth it.”

“But-!” I started.

“No,” he reaffirmed, “we’re not going to do it this way, okay?”

It took a minute to finally calm down. That part of my mind wanted to go fuck it all and just do it anyway. If I really wanted to, I could wrench myself away from Nathaniel and just do it. But seeing the disapproving, yet concerned look on his face was enough to calm those tendencies. I mentally chuckled to myself.

I must really be in love with Nathaniel for his words to calm me down just like that.

I nodded before turning my eyes over to Charlotte again. Just because I couldn’t physically hurt her, doesn’t mean I couldn’t intimidate her. I kept the facade up in me wanting to harm her.

“But Ami, this doesn’t mean we still can’t get police involved. I think we have enough of a reason to have them look into this right?”

Oh!

Oh...this man is devious.

“Y-you’re bluffing!”

I moved my hand away from Nathaniel to pull out my phone. I had already started to dial the non-emergency number to the police. Each beep of the numbers made Charlotte’s face pale more and more.

“Wait!” she shouted.

I was just a few digits off from completing the number and pressing send. For some reason, she started to smile. Like the past couple of minutes didn’t happen.

“You think I don’t notice how you two are when no one’s looking? The way you two cling to each other? I wonder what would happen if this relationship went public? I’m sure there would be quite a few people wanting you to break up if it did. Get rid of the evidence and I won’t go to Peggy.”

“Oh.” I spoke, “You think you’re in the position to hold that over our head?”

I looked to Nathaniel and he looked to me. In his eyes I could basically hear the conversation he was having with me. I cocked my head to the side, wondering if he was sure. His nod only seemed to reaffirm his decision.

It wasn’t ideal. But I guess it was about time.

In sheer defiance I placed my hand into Nathaniel’s. He held on to mines tightly. Charlotte realized what we had decided and her face went back to being shocked. My free hand was still on my phone.

“Tell her. We have nothing to hide anymore. I love him with all my heart and your petty threats will not make me hide away from that.”

I pressed one number.

Two.

Three.

“Okay!...okay, I’ll get rid of everything. Just don’t tell the police. God, if my parents found out...”

I studied her face to see if there was any hint of lying. There wasn’t so I cleared out my dial list.     I threw her earring back at her while sneering.

“See that you do. I hope this won’t require another meeting. Now get out, your presence disgusts me.”

I kept myself firm as she sped out of the hallways. Once she left, I knelt to the ground. The intimidating image I had to put up was more draining than I realized. I let out a deep breath. I stared at the floor silently. My mind was trying to process the past few minutes, mainly how I was.

I almost didn’t believe that I was capable of such a feat.

“Are you okay Ami?”

I looked up at Nathaniel. I noticed he still looked a bit concerned for me. I felt ashamed that he saw that side of me. I looked back down on the ground.

“Sorry...just that-Charlotte reminded me of something back then. How people of their ‘status’ think they are justified in doing whatever they want for retribution. They don’t care who they hurt, just as long as they get their revenge.”

I balled my fists up thinking about that again.

“It makes me mad.” I continued, “I hate people like that. It makes me want to just beat them up. See how it feels to be on the other end. Heh, I probably sound terrible to you. Your girlfriend sounds so sadistic.”

He didn’t say anything at first. He just helped me up from the floor. He then kissed me. It was passionate, like usual, but somehow different. When he released me finally he just smiled.

“You don’t sound like that at all. You’re perfect to me, flaws and all.”

I stared at him in pure shock. No one had ever told me that before. Ever. It took a moment for me to process his words. It was weird to have someone who loved me for who I am. Even with my shortcomings.

“Is something wrong Ami?” he asked.

“No! No...just that, I did something good in my past life or something to have someone like you in my life. No one has ever really told me that. Blessed be the woman who marries you.”

“Who’s to say that isn’t you?” he teased.

Then silence.

I think it sunk in this was the first time marriage was brought up. Even in a joking manner.

“Ami, I mean..”

I silenced him.

“I know, it’s too soon and who’s to say. I know I know.” I responded, “I would be severely concerned if you were serious. I don’t even want to think about it until after I graduate. Anyway, we should go tell Armin our results. I bet he’s dying to know.”

The Collector’s Series – Frank and his Vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ 5402ST

Today, we’ll get straight to the point and speak frankly and honestly. Frank, Founder and Managing Director of MONOCHROME, whom I’ve known for more than seven years now, is probably one of the most upfront and straightforward people I’ve ever met: Frank is a man who says what he thinks. And today we’ll talk about one of his most beloved watches, one that he’s owned for years and that I’ve always wanted to feature in our ‘Collector’s Series’, his handsome Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ 5402ST. And because this watch is such an icon, it doesn’t really need an introduction anymore. Instead, we’ll be looking at what really matters, the collecting side of things, the market, the fuzz around the watch…

Today the ‘Collector’s Series’ goes wild and I’m happy to have Frank on board for this new instalment. Fasten your seatbelts and let’s get to it!

Brice Goulard – No need to present this model anymore… It is a true icon. So let’s talk about your own watch, Frank. I know you’ve had it for a while now. What’s the story behind it?

Frank Geelen – We have to go back to my early days of collecting and running MONOCHROME. Online at forums, I had seen the occasional Royal Oak and I liked it, however, it was simply far out of reach, budget-wise. But I also had no idea of what it would be on the wrist and most retailers of high-end watches were simply not very welcoming. It felt like there was a balloting committee to decide whether they would allow you to come in, to try on the watch, or even to be worth a second look from the salesperson. Most images of the Royal Oak were the official PR shots and that didn’t really show the watch in its natural habitat, i.e. the wrist. Fast forward a few years…

A friend of mine, Robert-Jan from Fratello, owned a ref. 15300 and although I kind of liked the watch (from a distance), there was always something that just didn’t do it for me. I handled the watch on several occasions, tried it briefly on my wrist. Of course, I had read a lot about the Royal Oak, or at least quite a bit, as information was not as ‘available’ as it is today on the world wide web! So I knew about the model’s history, how it was designed (on a napkin during Baselworld, they say) and I had seen quite a few photos of Royal Oaks. I guess like many, I wondered why it was so incredibly expensive. And how it would look on my wrist. Somehow I could not really connect to the 15300. When RJ sold the 15300, he bought a 15202ST and in 2011 I got to borrow his watch for a few days.

This was a pre-2012 reference 15202ST and I have to admit, the spark was still not there. It was too angular, too ‘rough’, and although I ‘kind of’ liked it, it certainly was no head over heels or anything close to the motivation that is required to drop 15k on the table (or around 12k for a pre-owned one, at that time).

The following year, in January 2012, Audemars Piguet introduced a revamped version of the ref. 15202ST during the SIHH in Geneva. I tried it on my wrist for a photoshoot and I fell for it. Head over heels! And immediately I understood what made me like the new version so much more than the previous version. The markers were thinner and longer, the clous de Paris (hobnail) dial featured a much finer pattern, called petit tapisserie. This softened up the watch’s design and I loved it.

I wanted one, but I know the price was much more than what I could afford. So upon my return, immediately after the 2012 SIHH, I started searching for an old 5402ST, as that one also featured the long and thin hour markers and a petit tapisserie that was even finer than on the latest 15202ST. I soon found one that A) matched my budget, B) looked good and C) the dealers seemed trustworthy. So that was it, I spent more than I had ever spent on a watch before, and a few days later I received my Royal Oak. It was a D series, it was in very good condition, with the correct bracelet and clasp, original crown and well, it all looked very good. I was over the moon with my new watch!

What do you love so much about the Royal Oak, especially this vintage 5402ST version?

The design is so balanced, so perfect, and displays an admirable middle ground between masculine lines and shapes, and some softer shapes. The case and bracelet are, of course, quite masculine and also quite shiny. Although my old 5402ST is not that shiny anymore and the sharp edges have softened up over the years.

But still, the case and bracelet of the Royal Oak are very masculine, sharp, almost edgy. But the petit tapisserie of the 5402, which is even more “petit” than the tapisserie on the current 15202, looks very good and somehow softens the looks of the watch. A different dial, and there have been quite a few over the course of several decades, is very determinative for the Royal Oak’s looks, in my humble opinion. The sleek and long applied hour markers match the design perfectly. It’s harmonious, balanced, masculine yet not too “hard” or angular.

And at least as important, I love the thinness of this watch! The bracelet is thinner than later versions, the case too. Because of this thinness, it just feels so good on the wrist.

How does that compare to the modern equivalent, the 15202ST?

When my son was born I wore the 5402 not as much as before. Those little hands try to grab anything and the old 5402 is thin and all of a sudden it started to feel fragile on my wrist. So I started saving pennies for a new 15202ST as it was introduced in 2012. The dial is different, the case and bracelet are thicker, the clasp is easier to open and close, but they managed to grasp the essence of the old 5402ST in the new 15202ST.

Although I was highly surprised when, in 2012, I found out that the dial was blue because, so I was told by Octavio Garcia, the designer, the original also had a blue dial. Now maybe I’m colour-blind, but I can’t see blue in the dial of my 5402ST. The blue looks good, no it looks great, so no worries, I am enjoying the various tones of blue a lot. The best thing is that the 15202ST does not feel fragile, so I’m wearing it a lot and I’m not scared that my son will grab it and accidentally break something.

It feels like a modern version of the 5402, although in terms of modernity, I could have imagined a few ‘modern’ features. A fine-adjustment in the clasp to make the bracelet a bit longer or shorter, for instance, would have been appreciated hugely! Or a quick release system like on Vacheron’s Overseas is something I also really like, as I would love to be able to wear my 15202ST on a rubber band too. Anyways, I’m still very pleased with the watch and I wear, and enjoy, it a lot.

A-Series, B-Series, C-Series, D-Series… At the risk of shocking some collectors, is it necessary to only focus on the earliest models? Aren’t the later 5402ST, such as yours, as rewarding?

You know my opinion on this. I think it’s BS. Hence the reason why we hardly cover the next record-setting rare Rolex. If you like a watch, you like a watch. I cannot relate to this sort of collecting; some watches are more sought-after because it has a misprint dial or a very rare “underline” or a “dot over 90” bezel or… Most of these now-sought-after watches were far from collectable a few decades ago, but the collecting world somehow found ways to distinguish one old Rolex Submariner from another, while both have the same reference and look identical to most collectors. All of a sudden a broken dial is called a spiderweb dial, a faded dial is ‘tropical’ and a dial with spots is called a leopard dial. To me, this is so much nonsense. But people found a way to have a watch that they believe is more special than another one. And others found a way to ‘age’ a watch in such a way that it becomes more collectable and they can make a pleasant profit. It’s a murky world and I prefer to stay away from it.

That’s also why I keep being surprised to see 5402 C-series popping up with so-called “AP at 6” dials. These dials featured the AP logo on the lower end of the dial like it is on the new post-2012 ref. 15202ST. The inspiration for this post-2012 dial comes from the dials on 5402 A-series. From what I learned about these dials, these were also used on some B series, so seeing these dials on C series and even D series…. Makes you wonder! But since collectors prefer to focus on collectability or investments, they are missing out on the beauty of such a remarkably nice watch and of the joy of wearing it. Personally, I don’t care whether it’s an A, B, C or D series. It’s the looks of the 5402 that I fell in love with.

We can’t skip the topic of market value when it comes to the Royal Oak. What’s your take on the current situation and the speculative bubble?

When I bought my 5402 the prices started around 10k and a new pre-owned model was more expensive than the old 5402. I just checked Chrono24 and the cheapest 5402ST is priced at 38,500 EUR, there’s one at 39,500 and the next is 44,800 EUR. Prices have quadrupled over the past eight years. Although prices are quite steep, I can understand this price development.

I have more problems with the price of the new 15202ST on the pre-owned or grey market, as prices are at least 10,000 EUR higher than the retail price. Patek’s Nautilus is even more insane and the prices are double of the retail price. Similar problems with various Rolex sports models (Daytona, Sub, GMT Master Pepsi and Batman) and to me this ruins the fun of collecting. With such prices, we enter a different game, the speculation game and to me, that’s a negative sentiment.

What would you recommend to aspiring collectors who are thinking of buying a vintage Royal Oak? And are there any alternatives?

First of all, make sure you get enough wrist time with the watch you want to buy. This is key. When your wrist is smaller than 16 centimetres, you might not like how it sits on the wrist. Study the market, be patient, know the seller; the latter is very important! If you like the old Royal Oak Jumbo, something that I can understand very well, then I’m sure it won’t disappoint.

Alternatives are around, for people with a smaller wrist there are the 36mm diameter options from AP and there are also some older versions with the petit tapisserie dial and sleek, long hour markers. But since we’re talking vintage, there simply are not many alternatives, unless you are prepared to go for a newer watch. In that case, I’d suggest the 15202ST and good alternatives from other brands (for luxury sports watches) are the VC Overseas and the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo, especially now the water resistance has been increased to 100m.

Last but not least… Is it for sale?

No. Well, if someone offers 10 times the price I paid (7.5k), then I’m prepared to let it go. Since that won’t happen anytime soon, I will be enjoying my lovely 5402ST.

In what turned out to be, maybe, the best game of the season so far, the Grizzlies found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 count. Both teams played excellent hockey, especially the goaltenders. The game was tied after the first, tied after the second, and one goal in the third was the difference.

It’s amazing to me that some teams enjoy as much success as they do, especially if it’s year after year. There are so many dynamics that play into every moment on the ice on any given day or night. I could list more distractions, stumbling blocks, and opportunities for failure than anyone would care to read. I write this only because many, if not all teams go through things that would be on the list, but some teams seem to find a way to win, to succeed, to grow, better than others. I know some of the stories, or maybe just a few. I also know there are many more that I know nothing of. Then I look around a rink like I did Saturday night and see who is there, who isn’t there, who was here last year, or even earlier this year. And I wonder how is this team, or that, so good? Or at least how is it that they have the record they have? Anyway, there is something to be said for an atmosphere that allows players the room to make mistakes but also an environment in which to grow, create, and thrive. That’s what I felt in the rink Saturday night.

I was already a little bit down on my way to the UNH campus for the Goffstown game the other night after my youngest son’s team lost a tough 1-0 tournament game just an hour earlier. As history would repeat, being at the rink and around the hockey family already makes me feel better just by proximity. Then, to watch an exciting game played by two good teams playing at a high level all night, even though the team I cheer for lost, it was hard not to feel good about the many positives displayed on the evening.

Oyster River ultimately won the game 3-2. They had two goals called off in the first period. One goal was waived off for being kicked into the net. Ok, fair enough. The second one was blown dead after James Amorelli made a great save and the puck was still near his pad, at the goal line but the ref lost sight of it and blew the play dead before the puck was driven into the net. Oyster River overcame the misfortune and kept doing what they do. They play sound, structured hockey and rarely beat themselves. That is not to say that Goffstown had no effect in the matter because they certainly did. The Bobcats relied on every layer of defense they could muster, which often meant that Claden Daubney was the last straw that just wouldn’t break. What a game.

Oyster River scored first, at 3:13 when Alden Swiesz was set up by Andy Carlson and Lucas Hamilton. The Grizzlies answered two minutes later when Colby Gamache scored on a backhand shot in tight. Grady Chretien and Xavier Bibaud had assists on the goal. For Colby, it was his 50th career goal, making him only the fifth Grizzlie player to eclipse that mark. Add Colby to the 50-career goal club with Grady Chretien (77), Dan Mercier (60), Noah Charron (60), and Sean Naughton (54). The first period would end with the score tied 1-1. The Bobcats outshot the Grizzlies 13-9, and it seemed the margin was wider than that but Goffstown did pick up their play and finish the period with a flurry.

The second period may have been the Grizzlies best middle period of the season. They played with great speed and intensity, and if it wasn’t for Daubney making one great save after another, Goffstown may have built a lead in this game. At 2:17 of the period he made a brilliant save to keep the game at 1-1. The Grizzlies mounted offensive attack after offensive attack. Then, on the power play, the Grizzlies gave up a shorthanded chance but James Amorelli made a sensational save on Alden Swiesz to hold the fort. At 11:57 of the period, despite all of the offensive work done, the Grizzlies fell behind 2-1. Amorelli made the initial save but Jack Poitras was able to put the puck in the net. The Grizzlies kept coming. Then with 3 seconds left in the second period, Drew O’Brien scored from Grady Chretien in a literal storm of Grizzlies in front of the net. The game was tied again, at 2-2. Goffstown outshot the Bobcats 17-9 in the period but could not pull ahead on the scoreboard.

There was just one goal scored in the final period and it was scored by John Kell, from Corum Nichols at 3:49 of the period after the Grizzlies had a chance to keep the puck in at the offensive blue line. It just wasn’t to be. Amorelli and Daubney continued to make saves, including a fantastic stop from Amorelli at 12:35 of the period. Goffstown called their timeout at 13:46, and pulled Amorelli for an extra attacker at 13:58. James ended up out of the net for about 40 total seconds but the Grizzlies could not score the equalizer. Both teams played a great game, and it was fun to watch two teams playing at such a level. Goffstown had 33 shots to Oyster River’s 28. Each team was assessed just one penalty in the game, just about everything in this game was even.

Goffstown dropped to 12-5 in league play with just one regular season game remaining. Goffstown will host Alvirne-Milford on Friday night at St. Anselm College for their Senior Night at 7:15 pm.

Yeah, i don't pretend not to like people, so. I generally like people but it's bad for me these days w the present order of the society so I'm highly disapproving of the conditions, so it could seem mean but really I'm just actually SUPER NICE N KIND, so nice n kind I can't be okay w things being fucked up for people. I'm aware other such kind people are to occur as mean here, grumpy, grouchy, other things. I'm not grouchy or a grump but I'm intolerant of things being bad. I think some other people are supposed to be this here in this reality, which is actually a false reality, but the devil messes it up. I don't occur as so mean, but I can occur to say things that seem mean, really just intolerant of things being ridiculously bad for people. The devil keeps trying to take my thoughts as im writing. Anyway I actually liked mean people here in devil world because it meant they were intolerant of things being not okay and it meant they weren't just gonna go along w anything. The devil may try to make people occur as n act out another kind of mean, and inhumane mean, i am not that. Yeah, But Some Mean People Like -- I Don't Agree W Celebrity-ism -- Kanye West, others. Someone I found on Facebook, she ends the world significantly, something like this, her name is Tania Kelly

"I'm not allowed to go on. This person I can't be this person," the devil said of someone who i found on Facebook who went to my school, it seems I remember she was there when i was there. But anyway the person's name is Tania Kelly. And apparently the devil is concerned the devil is supposedly trying to alter some things about how the person is but it's not able to. She's self of Sherise Malachi n a lot of other people. Sherise, another person I went to college w, the devil did block her page on Facebook from me. But anyway, somewhat grotesque to have to mention but the devil was trying to make It so the person occurred as someone who thought she was less than, particularly as someone thinking herself was less than to whites. Apparently so it could say it could be the person. Apparently this is something like what it's doing to me by trying to make me seem a stereotype held as something to be by the sick arrangements here, a poor less than black.
