always sitting here wondering if i should read homestuck like youd think it wouldve happened a while ago because of how often the media i get into draws inspiration from it in some way but
#i tried reading it in like maybe 2020/2021 but the beginning was so dry to me at the time i do not remember any of it#also the bigotry riddled throughout Even if it does get better#like. the interesting parts sound really interesting!#i also just dont like andrew hussie. i think i’m predispostioned to be critical of most creators of media i like (thanks stephen king) but-#- based on what ive seen a lot of homestuck fans don’t seem to like them much either

does anyone remember a honestuck video using this song? currently there’s a lead that a homestuck video may contain this, tho unfortunately the source watched it years ago and isn’t a homestuck fan so a lot of details are vague
what we currently know about the video:
video may be on either tiktok or youtube (if the former, the user watched the tiktok in 2021-2022, if the latter, the user watched the video from 2019-2022, though the video itself may be older)
featured a character with long black hair
artstyle was “pretty stylized, possibly lineless”
video contained stylized text that got bigger as the music got louder
EDIT: source says they “only remember one character, but [they’re] sure there were others in it because it felt angsty”
if any of this sounds familiar to you, please reply/reblog this post providing detail (or even a link to the video you think it is!). do this BEFORE checking the read more, since the read more is a theory, and i don’t want my theory to influence your recollection at all.
and, even if none of this rings a bell, please reblog!! the more this spreads around, the more there’s a chance someone remembers something important.
current theory:
my current theory is that, if an hs video using this song does exist, it’s a lyricstuck from the 2010s uploaded to youtube. the mention of lyrics, plus the earliest link to this song being from 2007, definitely makes me think this is an early 2010s lyricstuck. this lyricstuck probably wouldn’t have many views (since, if it did, someone would’ve pointed to the specific lyricstuck by now, though maybe it was popular but a lot of the people who watched it are no longer interested in homestuck/don’t know about this song being lost).
due to the lyrics + sound of the song, i think this lyricstuck could’ve featured either feferi or vriska, but i could also see jade (specifically grimbark jade) and maybe aradia. though my main two picks are still either feferi or vriska

Although I don't particularly care about popularity or receiving attention, due to the nature of how my experience on twitter has been like these past few years, I have always enjoyed the Tumblr experience far more than any other platform. People are far more likely to interact by means of overall reblogging and adding comments in the tags, it's very sweet and motivating.
I came back to homestuck after A DECADE because of me having a rough, mentally and emotionally draining week because my impulsive thinking was like, "Hey man, fuck it, how far into Homestuck do you think I can read before I get help. (from discord support for context)" I had never actually read it when I was a kid because I just didn't have the attention span and willpower to read through SO much dialogue. I only ever interacted with it by means of just celebrating it as a fan who never actually read it, but liked it nonetheless. Of course now that I am a grown ass adult who can make their own conscious decisions and actually has the time and whatever to actually both appreciate AND enjoy reading extensively I am enjoying homestuck way more than I ever did before. I know that because of the death of flash (fuckin rip, dude, AWFUL) and extensive information about Hussie (TO PUT IT LIGHTLY) have since made getting into the comic a bit of a hassle and a choice it makes me wish I had actually read it at its best performance.
But, back on topic, twitter and other socials have the tendency to be particularly attached to trend hopping and sticking with what's currently doing numbers. Because, again, I don't care about dabbling in trends I just do what I want and ultimately that causes people to just not care about what I create. I have grown very apathetic towards my art and due to academic trauma from having been in a private art college with a low acceptance rate I have been in art burn out hell for literal years. The mix of both nobody caring about my art and my own rocky broken relationship with art made me extremely unmotivated yet long for the joys of creation once more.
Whenever I post here specifically it brings me joy again, it makes me realize that YES PEOPLE ACTUALLY DO CARE ABOUT AND ENJOY WHAT I MAKE NO MATTER WHAT IT MAY BE AND ITS CURRENT POPULARITY. I'm very happy seeing the same faces in the likes and/or rbs for my posts. I'm very happy seeing the same person revisit and reblog it for a second time or more. I'm very happy with how close and genuine it feels. (in a non-parasocial way) I'm just glad that despite this site being in a perpetual state of uncertainty, run by a skeleton crew, functions like shit, current CEO is a moron and the site is set to sail until it dies naturally it became the most genuine feeling of the social platforms ESPECIALLY for art.
I know this has gotten very longwinded and is essentially chaotic practically emotional rambling but like, thank you!!!!!!!!!
I have more stuff to come and from the bottom of my heart genuinely appreciate everyone's support here, it actually means the world to me. THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!!
MY OLD ART BTW!!!!!! anything that's not in that small 2021 corner is 2013-early 2014
#wrenchspeaks#literally had me crying by the end of writing this like right now yes i am crying not from sadness but from gratitude and idk happiness?#yes i am a broken 25 year old but by god i am trying to get back on track#yes i liked kankri a lot as a kid and now nothing has changed besides me having become like him just not negatively anymore#i was him in a negative way leading up to 2021 and it bit me in the ass majorly#also being a mentally fucked up grown ass adult is some of the most humiliating shit you could go through like ohhhh grow up I ALREADY DID#AND WHAT DID IT PROVIDE FOR ME? THATS RIGHT TONS OF EMOTIONAL AND MENTALLY TWISTED BAGGAGE AND JUST MADE ME#WORSE but hey man. hey. hey. i can be independent allegedly but i promise i am medicated i just need to eventually start#antipsychotics and get back into therapy but i lose insurance this year and bro i have no business talking about all this here. if youre#still reading all this nonsense hi uhhhh whats up ummmm twirls strand of hair like yknow i will make charms#and hopefully make money cause i don't think i can get a job with my issues and problems with shit like chronic migraines but whateverrrrrre

Fandom tag!! thank u for tagging me @suchagallabitch 🥰
Your First Fandom(s): i wasn’t going to do this but fuck it, here’s all the fandoms i remember being in: south park, left 4 dead, pokemon, homestuck, the book of mormon, les mis, the lorax, camp lazlo, one direction, shameless us (there’s more but i do not remember currently)
How did you first get into fandom? i liked writing self insert fic and i used to spend hours on youtube watching AMVs to like, bullet for my valentine in 2007 lol i found ffnet and deviantart soon after and the rest is history!
How long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? 2007 so officially 16 years. i was 11 reading south park yaoi
How often do you read fanfics? i open ao3 every single morning to see if any of my favorite wips have been updated. i love wips, i used to not read them bc i was always afraid the writer would abandon it but now i’ll read absolutely anything. i love the journey of reading wips now. it’s like my morning newspaper
Top 3 characters from your current fandom(s): mickey milkovich, ian gallagher, and now retsuko from aggretsuko…i feel like i am in no fandom rn, just passin by. i’m like the old man that lives on the edge of town who still comes to the street events
Have you ever written a fic for a fandom? yeah i’ve written a bunch of drabbles on my blog and uploaded two finished works, both one shots for the spicy gallavich collab 2021 and 2022…i am particularly proud of this year’s spicy fic. somehow reached 11k words and it’s about lesbians mickey and ian 💃 search lesbiangallagher on ao3. but in the past i feel like i’ve written at least one fic for every fandom i’ve been in…and i’ve been in a LOT of fandoms lol but they’re all on my old blog that only og rocco fans know about
Have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom? if so, shout it out! nah i’ve never been a fanart type of creator. i’m sure i’ve drawn characters jokingly or something
Share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about: since 2014, i have a HARD and STRONG headcanon that mickey is a trans dude
You're trying to convince a friend to get into your current fandom(s) with you. what episode, clip, or scene are you showing them? i don’t want anyone to get on the shameless US train because it was a whole lot of suffering but if i had to: the episode where they steal the meat from the meat truck. for aggretsuko: the episode where ton and retsuko go at it at karaoke
And finally, what does fandom mean to you? it’s always been an ~escape~ for me, where all my unhinged thoughts are welcome. i’ve seen just about everything at this point, but i still love the idea of community who bond over One niche thing
SECOND TAG ok slay!!!
name: rocco
age: i’ll be 27 in may 😵💫
Where in the world are you? georgia, us of a
The meaning behind your URL: i’m lesbian ian gallagher
Your second favourite color: i guess it’s orangey yellow
any pets? my cat, minky and two birds merlin and mulder
favourite season? fall
Last thing you read: new update of dead meet🫣
Last song you listened to: lavender haze by miss swift
What are you wearing right now? black skeleton dress and cooking apron
A hobby of yours: i read a LOT, i’ll read practically anything lol. now that i have a new glasses prescription, i feel invincible
and finally, what are you up to today? currently making breakfast and getting ready for vacation this week 😗
i don’t know who’s all been tagged but feel free to do this!! i am always reminded of myspace with these lol

NEW JORTS THE CAT UPDATE
[Image transcript: a screencap of a reddit post linked here, titled FINAL UPDATE: JORTS AND JEAN. Post reads as such: I got increasingly nervous about “Pam” and HR decided we had to have a team meeting. First of all, the world is NOT sick of Jorts and Jean, but HR sure is sick of me.
Pam is pretty “offline” so had not heard of any of it. We selected a variety of fan art and some of the nicer comments to show Pam and it went fine. We were all very sternly reminded of our stringent worksite privacy policies.
Pam wanted to send a letter to the Jorts and Jean fan website and legal counsel redacted the letter which is here: Letter From Pam. The absolute disgust from legal counsel was palpable.
Pam is glad “our little cats” have so many new friends. Legal counsel told me to knock it off with all of this bullshit. Someone gave Jorts a pipe cleaner. Big relief overall because I did not want to hurt Pam’s feelings, not to mention I really thought I might get fired because I doubled down so much on Jorts and Jean content. (I regret nothing.)
Literally right now I can hear someone playing the Jorts and Jean sea shanty somewhere in the building. End description]

for fans by fans closed their website at the end of the year. i know it’s not easy running on online store right now, and i know it’s really not easy to run one with niche anime/video game merch like they did so i’m not too suprised but... wow they didn’t have any reddit presence, their twitter posted memes a few times a week, and their tumblr has been dead since 2021. it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you’re gonna be selling homestuck and anime merch you should probably reach out on the channels those fans hang out on. i don’t know why i care about this. probably just sad the place to get licensed homestuck stuff kicked the can with very little fanfare. i wonder if fangamer is gonna pick up any of their properties. anyway. rip to by fans for fans. i hope the folks who worked there find new spaces soon

I kinda wanna be a bit braggy tbh? bc I don't know if this is actually impressive but
Lead in story bit: I grew up (and am a diehard fan of) the NES Mega Man style games. I love them all (like I played and beat a majority of the other non-NES mega man brand things. I love them all no matter the gameplay style >///>) ANYHOW I LEARNED MUSIC BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE A FAN GAME ONE DAY. I LITERALLY THREW MYSELF AT FAMITRACKER. I WAS 8 AND BARELY KNEW WHAT A NOTE WAS AND FAILED. LIKE MEGA MAN UNLIMITED WAS HOW I EVEN LEARNED ABOUT FAMITRACKER. THE FANGAME THAT HAD TO BE TOLD IT COULDN'T CALL ITSELF MEGA MAN 10. There was a fucking preview of a stage track that was taken in Famitracker and I guess I scrolled into the comments. Well, seeing the various green numbers and letters and rows fly past confused me and I do not know how they deterred me?? From then on it took me literally 5 years to make a song of any variety that was listenable. I was like, 13 then.. and 3 years later (and a Moribund Fan of Homestuck) I made this attached file. I managed to get FLStudio's DEMO somewhat soon. I fucking rocked with that until like... 2021 when my parents generously got me the actual thing. I was too lazy to ever bother pirating anything, since I could just "make whole song in demo version :D" (which I DID FOR SEVERAL YEARS) DESPITE NOT BEING ABLE TO SAVE ANYTHING AND JUST EXPORTED IT

hate the term “radical feminism”. it implies, like, feminism but More when in reality it’s seneca falls convention level feminism that’s only radical on one dimension (if you’re white, cis, usually economically advantaged, and fit into the standards of “woman” appearance wise), and basically completely identical to conservative/reactionary thought except on the dimension of (cis) Woman Good, Man (or trans woman) Bad.
shouldn’t we call it ‘regressive feminism’ instead?

Disclaimer: I am not a Homestuck (I’ve only accidentally reblogged a post about it twice without knowing it was Homestuck) but I have mutuals who are (love ya @flamingthespian and @ladylolalilly) and have thus absorbed a lot of knowledge about it from their reblogs. However, I am a Pretty Cure fan and could not help but notice the similarities. So, I figured those of you who are into both would appreciate this.

Quantum Leap AU where instead of getting sent to the future, Claire got sent to the past and into a lot of different people (in her present, she’s alive but in a coma) After finding out what happened from Dimitri, Hershel serves as Al (but way less horny, so more like Addison in the new show), acting as a hologram that only Claire can see and hear. Dimitri serves as Gushie, as he is in charge of whatever the equivalent to Ziggy would be (any suggestions on names would be appreciated). Sadly, Claire’s brain is swiss-cheesed, so she doesn’t remember Hershel at first.
And so Claire finds herself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping that her next leap… would be the leap home.

[Image Description: an Undertale textbox with “INTRODUCTION AND DEMOGRAPHICS” in all caps in its middle. To its left and right are a radar screen and an egg, sun, and "WED" from the Dating Hub. End I.D.]
Our sample size consisted of a total of 2651 responses. We did not set any sort of age restriction to take the survey, and no other qualification than self identifying yourself as part of the Undertale fandom.
[Image Description: a pie chart titled “AGE OF UNDERTALE FANS”. In clockwise order, the results: 31%, or 812 responders, are 13-17 years old; 44% or 1160 are 18-24; 15%, or 398, are 25-30; 6%, or 158, are 31-40; 0%, or 6, are 41-50; 3%, or 91, preferred not to answer, and 1%, or 25, are 12 and below. End I.D.]
The age group most represented is composed of people between 18 to 24 years old (also known as emerging adults), corresponding to 44% of all participants. They are followed by teenagers aged 13 to 17 years old (31%) and young adults aged 25 to 30 years old (15%)
(Many more demographics under the cut.)
[Image Description: a pie chart titled “GENDER OF UNDERTALE FANS”. In clockwise order, the results: 374, or 14%, are male; 1144, or 43%, are female; 789, or 30%, are nonbinary; 167, or 6%, identify as ‘other’, and 177, or 7%, prefer not to say. End I.D.]
In terms of gender, most people identified as female with a total of 43%, followed by nonbinary with 30% and male with 14%. A significant amount of people responded with “Other,” explaining their identity (or questioning) more in depth.
[Image Description: a pie chart titled “UNDERTALE FANDOM AND LGBT+ IDENTITY”. In clockwise order, the results: 1949, or 73%, identify as LGBT+; 293, or 11%, do not identify as LGBT+; 280, or 11%, are questioning; and 129, or 5%, prefer not to say. End I.D.]
Considering the great amount of LGBT+ representation present in Undertale, we decided to ask people whether they identify themselves as part of this community. The majority, 73%, has declared to be a part of it. It is relevant to add that 5% chose not to say, and 11% were questioning. It is possible that media containing well developed representation draws more people to it; many people said that the reason they liked certain characters was being able to feel represented as a minority.
[ID: a pie chart titled: “LOCATIONS OF UNDERTALE FANS”. In clockwise order its results: 1788 responders, or 67%, are from North America; 420 responders, or 16%, are from Europe; 141 responders, or 5%, are from Asia; 94 responders, or 4% are from South America; 83 responders, or 3%, are from Australia; 11 responders, or 0% are from the Pacific Islands; 22 responders, or 1% are from “Other” locations; 92 responders, or 4%, selected ”Prefer not to say.” End of ID.]
The internet has made the game known all over the world, which motivated us to look into the way its fans are distributed around the globe. It is important to consider that since this survey is in English, people were more likely to respond to it if they understood the language, whether it is their native language or not (like Vessel #1, who’s writing this paragraph). It would be interesting if other communities did a similar exercise in the future by translating the survey.
Having said that, we present the results. To get these numbers some of the answers were distributed into their corresponding existing group, and at least three new categories were created.
North America: 1788 votes
Europe: 420
Asia: 141 votes
South America: 94 votes
Australia: 83 votes
The most represented area is North America, which is no surprise considering it’s composed by a majority of native English speakers. It should also be noted that considering Toby Fox is from the US, it makes sense that people with a similar cultural background would more likely hear about Undertale and join the fandom. Europe follows with 420 votes, which could be due to their usage of the English language either as a native language or a frequently taught second one. Asia has a similar situation, however, if we take global population estimates (e.g: 141 per 4.561 billion in the case of Asia compared to Europe with 420 fans in an area with a population of around 746 million people), we can see that the density of Asian fans is drastically lower. After that we have both South America and Australia with a similar amount of votes. In those cases, knowledge of the English language may also factor into the density. Common social media used around the world could also be a factor but we do not have enough data to draw any conclusions.
92 people preferred not to specify and 50 people answered the survey with “Other”, giving their explanation. A few of these responses were put in bigger categories (Canada is in North America, for example). Besides them, the most notable group were Pacific Islanders, making up 11 people, 3 more than Africa. Due to their sizes, further investigation is needed to know if this is a replicable result or just the product of the places the survey was able to reach this time.
[Image Description: a pie chart titled “YEAR FANS FIRST EXPERIENCED UNDERTALE”. In clockwise order, its results: 937 responders, or 35%, experienced it in 2015; 687, or 26%, experienced it in 2016; 231, or 9%, experienced it in 2017; 181, or 7%, experienced it in 2018; 123, or 5%, experienced it in 2019; 145, or 5%, experienced it in 2020; 88, or 3%, experienced it in 2021; 231, or 9%, don’t know when they experienced it, and 25, or 1%, have never experienced Undertale. End I.D.]
We asked about the exposure to the source material. After all, to be a fan of something, you should know about it. The biggest proportion of fans experienced Undertale for the first time in 2015 and 2016, with those two years amounting for more than half of our sample. As for people who have only started playing during this year, they represent 3% of all participants.
[Image Description: a pie chart titled “YEAR FANS FIRST EXPERIENCED DELTARUNE”. In clockwise order, its results: 1585 responders, or 60% of those responding, experienced Deltarune in 2018; 275, or 10%, experienced Deltarune in 2019; 213, or 8%, experienced it in 2020; 126, or 5%, experienced it in 2021; 115, or 4%, don’t know; 253, or 10%, have not played but want to; 77, or 3%, have not played and don’t plan to; and 7, or 0%, do not know what Deltarune is. End I.D.]
Many people are familiar with Deltarune as well. Most of them played the first chapter of the game as it was released in 2018, and other people followed in the next few years. Among the people that didn’t play, 253 manifested interest in playing in the future, while 77 stated they knew of the game’s existence but did not plan on playing it.
[Image Description: a pie chart titled "HOW FANS FOUND UNDERTALE". In clockwise order, its results: 870 responders, or 33%, saw someone play it online; 576 responders, or 22%, were introduced by a friend; 539, or 20%, saw fancontent first; 195, or 7%, read reviews or recommendations on social media; 63, or 3%, came through the Kickstarter before release; 50, or 2%, came through a different fandom; 34, or 1%, came by following Toby Fox, Temmie Chang, or other collaborators; 221, or 8%, came through another way; and 101, or 4%, don't remember how. End I.D.]
33% of responders found Undertale by watching someone play it online. The next largest categories were those who were introduced by friends or saw fancontent first, comprising 22% and 20%, respectively. These statistics are indicative of the love that fans have for Undertale: they want to share the game with others, whether by creating and sharing fancontent, or just by talking about the game positively enough to inspire others to give it a chance. In the “other” category, many fans mentioned specific fanworks or AUs as their reasoning for giving Undertale a chance. Other common answers in the “other” category were through the soundtrack, through memes, through connections to Homestuck, and through curiosity about the infamous fandom. One humorous response that stuck out said, “I was searching for the word ‘sand’ and had wrote ‘sans’ by wrong.”

So it's a long story, and it's one that while I was present for as an Ex-Msparp Roleplayer is still a confusing mess to me. Here's what I remember, and what others can explain better:
Msparp stands for Micro Soft Paint Adventures Role Play, and was made by two guys (gender neutral i dont know ANY genders of anyone on the mod team) who i'm gonna call Equius and Gamzee
Equius makes Msparp for one (half joking) reason: To find roleplays for the EquiusXGamzee ship. For a while in the site's sidebar it says "EquiGam is the superior ship" or some shit like that. Gamzee is only brought on to help moderate it, as it gets INSANELY popular with the Pre-2015 Homestuck fandom.
Fast forward. The site grows; more features are added. Your bitch (me) comes onto the scene. More mods are added. More features. Too many new features holy shit. The site is reborn anew as Mxrp (Mixed Roleplay) to appeal to a greater audience because now its 2020 and no one likes Homestuck anymore. Mods leave. Mods are added. And as all great things do, things start going south.
The first nail in the coffin was the reveal that at LEAST one, most likely two or all of the current mods, are into C/P. *That* C//P. If they weren't into it, they knew the other mods were into it and didn't care. One mod speaks about it to a buddy who reveals it like that one FBI whistleblower.
Everything explodes.
Shit comes out about EVERY MOD EVERYWHERE. Even the nicer mods had all their shit dredged up. Abuse, harassment, tax evasion(????), a Patreon is set up, a Kickstarter is set up, the rewards for the Kickstarter JUST RECENTLY all got sent out. Late 2021. For a 2020 Kickstarter.
Everything is in shambles. Equius, Gamzee, half the mods and admins are gone. There's this one dude named Turtle who took over the Mxrp Twitter and refused to give it back, and used it to be a bitch to kind of everyone.
There are maybe five mods left, half of THEM new, and the ones who aren't new everyone despises.
I think @msparp-hell is a much better person to ask abt What Happened, but what I've said is kinda all I know. I'm not the most rememberer, tho, so take it w/ a grain of sand.
wow. homestuck fans strike again

2021/1/8 Fic Rec Repost
In the fic rec post that is going around, I make reference to a previous recommendation post. This was a post which I made back on January 8th, 2021. I posted it on my liveblog, since it was inspired by a request for more Homestuck fics I liked by an anon on that blog. I recently realized that I had not reblogged it here, and so rather than do so, I decided to list the recommendations on a new post, without the formatting errors which bug me about the original post. In my last fic rec post, I chose fic which I thought would be broadly appealing, but in this rec post, since I was responding to an inquiry about my personal favorites, i included some fairly dark stories, and some of them deal with some potentially triggering content. Please read the content tags! You should read the content warnings anyway, but I’m just saying. Take care of yourselves, yeah?
Independent Fics (not part of a series)
Battlestuck [Various Authors] - The beta kids and beta trolls in the Battle Royale universe. Like BR, this fic is full of extremely explicit violence. It is definitely not for everyone. However, it is very good.
Detective Pony [Sonnetstuck] - A children’s book about horses and horse girls edited by Dirk into a labyrinthine treatise on the meaning of fiction and the self. A great fic for all HS fans, and a must-read for any Dirk enjoyers.
General Vantas Gets Hitched, or, The Limits Of Bilateral Diplomacy: A Black Powder Romance [JumpingJackFlash] - Black powder fantasy AU. King John of Skaia and Karkat are put in an arranged marriage in order to end the war between Skaia and the Empire. Full of a lot of fun character interaction and a bit of hurt/comfort adjacent stuff near the end. A fic that feels very 'comfy' to me.
Guilty by Association [mtjester] - This is one of the ones with a darker premise. High school human AU. In the aftermath of Damara and Rufioh's breakup, Damara starts sexually assaulting Tavros, while Meenah and Cronus try to protect him without letting word get out. Well written, fascinating characterization, but it depicts the sexual violence fairly explicitly, so it’s obviously not for everyone.
Modern Cannibals [Bavitz] - This one is set in the 'real world'. Max gets becomes obsessed with Homestuck, and seems to abandon his friendship with Z. Determined to rescue her relationship, Z. gets Max, her other friend Kiki, and Kiki’s boyfriend Cal to take a road trip to Las Vegas where Andrew Hussie will make an appearance. As they approach this heart of darkness, reality starts to warp and fracture.
The Serendipity Gospels [urbanAnchorite] - No SBURB AU Alternia, focusing on Terezi and Gamzee, and their developing black romance. Gospels stopped updating before its originally planned ending, but it does have something of a 'season 1 finale' type ending. The author of this fic is now a published author, and her works have a fandom of their own here on tumblr. If you liked the skull facepaint, the pseudochristian death cult stuff, and the antagonistic yet romantically charged relationship elements in Gideon the Ninth, maybe you'll like this bit of the author's early work.
Straw Soldiers [Lucid_Dream] - A personal favorite of mine. No SBURB shared universe AU. The Alternian Empire sets its eyes on Earth, and Karkat’s blood color makes him an ideal candidate for a spy, whether he wants to be or not. Action, tension, angst, comfort, a deeply enjoyable read. The first act has some body horror, as Karkat's body is modified to make him appear human, but this is absent in the second act, which mainly takes place on Earth.
Unwanted Free Ugly Troll [Orphan Account] - One of the most popular fics in the fandom. No SBURB Earth AU. Trolls are sentient beings which are treated as domesticated animals by humans. The Striders adopt one, then two, then become activists for troll rights.
Series
Cyberbunny Apocalypseverse [Curlicuecal] - When the game ends, Lil Hal and Lil Seb get separated from the kids, and wake in a new universe with cyborg bodies. In a world of tension between cyborgs, humans, trolls, and carapacians, these castaway Striders struggle to find Sawtooth and Squarewave, meet this universe's version of minor HS characters, and deal with the struggles of being human.
The Golden Age [elanor_pam] - A utopian intergalactic society has discovered the Alternian Empire, and tries to reduce harm without prompting the Condesce to use the nuclear option of the Vast Glub. 'The Great Escape' is the standout fic in this series, though it has some content warnings you really ought to heed. Some troll kids, including Karkat, get kidnapped by slavers, resist their captors, and get rescued, and escape Alternian pursuit.
Happy reading!

You could argue the rpgs are kinda cheating cause you know, rpgmaker games are as prevalent as VNs, especially back in the day, but neither here nor there. Speaking of back in the day, there was also stuff like Hammerkind, and that Jane cooking game. Also would like to hear some of your fanventure reccomendations, besides VE or Kittyquest. Nothing towards Kittyquest, thats more me already guessing it from the blog banner and description.
heheheheh yeah it's no surprise that I'd recommend Kittyquest, I've had half a mind to blaze a post I made about it, that's how much I think people should read it, like even taking away my davepeta bias (they don't even show up at that often lmao) it's just a much more fun look into a post canon homestuck, with the world its built.
and while it's neither here nor there, I think it's a matter of the era/fandom. Like homestuck fans aren't going towards visual novels because they're any "easier" (the accessibility of tools especially for people who just want to write and draw does help of course), it's because it directly melds well with the format of comics/flashes/adventure games that the series itself runs on, and pesterquest/friendsims normalized it. It's like how if you go back you'll find a whole bunch of [x]stuck AUs and concepts and whatever, because back then people literally just did whatever because it was an active and chaotic fandom, for better and for worse.
For MSPFAs, again I don't spend as much as I'd like to in reading them and haven't really caught up and I already have a huge backlog when it comes to other stuff, but some that I've kept tabs on are, some of these aren't that active though:
(you've opened the floodgates anon, I didn't expect this post to get this long)
Martyrdom (last update: May 30th, 2022) , which is about the midnight crew finding some weird dudes stepping on their turf and trying to deal with them.
Homestuck (last update: April 21st, 2022), an mspfa that starts off where somehow Jade is teleported to the start of the comic, and there's something about OCs and there's a lot of earthbound music and I thought it was neat with how it changes things up
OH FUCK I forgot, Oasisquest (last update: September 16, 2021), it hasn't updated in a while but it's an mspfa that I think is based off the creators' roleplaying, so there's a new planet, mostly fantrolls and the designs are good
Oh and of course Act 8 (Last Update: April 16, 2021), because everybody has to have at least one "the ending of homestuck underwhelmed me, we can totally fix it" mspfa comic to follow. I don't remember too much but it does some neat stuff with Gamzee, Aradia and Tavros get a neat meat up, and Davepeta does some cool stuff here and there, so you know I'm down, even if it hasn't updated in like a year
OH FUCK also Deltastuck (last update: April 13, 2022), it's almost exactly what you'd expect form the name, but it's UNDERTALE characters trying to use sburb to get out of the underground, I haven't checked it out in a while since it had to stop to make a big flash update, but that's actually done now so it's somewhat still going
and uh, I think I'll end this off with a really old one, Nightfall (discontinued), which I haven't even finished but it interests me in that it's so clearly written before certain things in the comic that it almost feels like a time capsule.
It's basically centered around vrisjohn and it's post canon but in the way that I guess people just assumed that when the kids were done with the game and made a new universe they'd do normal kids stuff again and be in a normal americana setting while the trolls fuck off to their own planet, except suddenly Vriska shows up and has to hide out at John's place because humans don't know about aliens.
And of course the stakes get randomly high with some kind of magic alien ninja or something, I never got that far to understand but it was interesting to find, and while the creator doesn't plan on finishing it, they've basically adapted it into an original work, Xenologia (last update: June 25th, 2022) that apparently is still hosted on MSPFA and has multiple chapters out
we don't talk 'bout alt mewniverse no no no, we dont' talk 'bout alt mewniverse~
Also while we're down here, I've never actually read Vast Error. A part of me thinks it's funnier not to read it, so I can look at it in the same confusion as people who've never read homestuck probably looks at posts about it.
#dashingposts#asks#Anonymous#jesus christ this post got long#sorry anon#mspfa recs under the first two blocks of text tho#long post#dashingreads#dashingreads: mspfa#dashingreplies

Hi I just saw a post saying to tell an author you follow that you appreciate them or something along those lines and wanted to say that I love nothingbound so much! It was my first homestuck fic and got me into the fandom (yes I became a homestuck in 2021) and I still follow your accounts even tho I'm not obsessed with homestuck anymore (I try to tell myself that at least) because I love your art so much, your style is very skrunkly. Also I love your dc stuff! You are one of the artists who got me into dc too (not that I have read any comics or anything I just enjoy fan content and pretend to understand what's going on lol) and with both homestuck and dc I think my favs were heavily shaped on who you drew the most haha. I'm impressionable like that I'm a literal toddler
Ps I'm the one who asked about your speaker crab post so hi again I guess (sorry if that ask was super weird tonally I am bad at this whole ask thing-- but you probably don't remember anyway lol) okay byeee
I do remember your ask about the speaker crab video! i still wanna finish that one day haha
And I want to say I'm really grateful for your support, even if you don't know what's going on in it, it literally means the world to me when people say they enjoy my art for what it is and genuinely like the style <3
Comics are pretty confusing to get into too so i don't blame you, but if you ever do you can pretty much just choose a character you like and then start reading one of their comics or look up a reading guide :)
Seriously, this was a really nice message and i cant thank you enough <3 i hope you have a wonderful day/night
#also ive been writing!!! so maybe nothingbound ch 6 in may#sorry for the long ass wait haha#clam answers
