gotta make you understand
throwback to late 2020/early 2021, my small stories series is back!! i've got a few more prompts left that i'm going to try to write soon 👀
AO3!
Summary: Janus is pretty sure Virgil's avoiding them because he hates them. It is... not that. Warnings: none Wordcount: 549
“Wait, what?”
Janus shifted uncomfortably. “I just… want to know what I did wrong? You don’t have to tell me.”
“You didn’t do anything!” Virgil told him, scouring his brain for why Janus would think he hated them.
He did have a tendency to flip his hood up when he was around to hide any potential blushing that made its way past his foundation, which he guessed could be seen as an intimidation thing or something? Maybe like ‘I don’t want to look at your face so I’m going to put my hood in the way?’
And he hardly ever talked around Janus, too scared of fumbling his words to say anything, which Virgil could see being flipped into ‘I hate you and don’t want to talk to you.’ And he did sometimes, occasionally, go out of his way to avoid Janus. (Only because he’s sure every time he runs into them he’s going to embarrass himself horribly, even though usually it doesn’t end up nearly as bad as that. Stupid anxiety brain.)
So Virgil kind of got where Janus is coming from, which made this even more embarrassing.
“You didn’t do anything,” Virgil repeated. “I just… was being dumb. Sorry.”
Janus raised an eyebrow (how did he do that; Virgil’s a little jealous, very impressed, and so gay) and drawled, “Really. Because you avoiding me and refusing to talk to me unless I force you is just… you being dumb, and I haven’t done anything at all to upset you or make you hate me or anything. Sure.” They sighed and hugged their arms around himself, looking away. “I already said you didn’t have to tell me; you don’t have to lie.”
“I didn’t—” Virgil fidgeted in place. He could and should just tell him now, so c’mon—
Janus sighed again. “Right.” They turned to go.
“Janus, wait!” Virgil almost shouted. They paused but didn’t turn to look at him, and Virgil took a deep breath, balling his hands into fists. “The only thing that you’ve done wrong,” he ground out, “is be so stupidly pretty around me. So. Yeah. I’m just being dumb.”
Janus turned back and searched his face, which Virgil was sure was glowing by now. He wanted to flip up his hood, look away, take some of the heat off, but he needed them to know he meant it, so he forced eye contact.
He felt himself getting antsier and antsier as Janus stayed silent. Their arms uncrossed and fell to their sides, was that a good thing? Was the stunned expression a positive one? Had he just taken the last tatters of their friendship and lit them on fire?
“Oh,” Janus finally breathed.
“Oh?” Virgil immediately regretted how aggressive he sounded.
“Well, I understand that you don’t hate me, now,” Janus said, arms crossing again. “But I think you owe me for making me think that for so long.”
“Okay?” That was plenty fair; Virgil felt terrible about that. “What can I do?”
Janus hummed thoughtfully, tapping his lips. Virgil was pretty sure they’d already decided what they wanted and were just drawing it out.
“Take me on a date,” they finally declared.
“Oh.” Virgil felt like the air was punched out of him. Was this what being high felt like?
“Oh?”
“Yes.”

Someone Like You - Chapter 5
Chapter 1 | chapter 2 | chapter 3 | chapter 4 | next
Summary: Janus and his dad are both hurt and haunted by their past, it's time they'll talk about it with each other, and what's a better time than 2 in the morning?
Pairing: past anxceit, pre romantic roceit
Warnings: grief, mentions of past accident and death, regret, self deprecation, disability, insomnia. Let me know if there's anything I missed.
Word count: 1,416
Hey folks! Sorry for the late update, this week was hectic for me omg. But I'm here to deliver you another unhealthy dose of angst horray! @prince-rowan-of-the-forest
Just stop thinking about him…
Stop thinking about Virgil…
He doesn't matter anymore…
You don't need him…
Janus turned in his bed, it was hard enough to find a position where his left leg hurt the least, but now he was so restless he couldn't stop moving and turning.
Why the fuck did he agree to go there? What was he thinking? All it did was bring back all the pain he spent so much time trying to push down…
It's not fair how Virgil can hurt him even when he's not there while he gets to laugh with his new friends and kiss Roman's soft lips whenever he pleases and-
No, that's not the time to be thinking of this… he needs to sleep…
Ugh who is he kidding? He's not going to sleep tonight…
With a sigh, he got up and went to get himself some water and maybe a - he checked the time - 2am snack.
When he got to the kitchen, however, it wasn't as dark and empty as he expected. His dad was sitting at the table, looking at a photo that, even though Janus couldn't see it, was obviously of his mom.
So, it's going to be one of these nights it seems… great.
"Hey dad.." Janus said softly but his dad still jumped in surprise.
"Oh! H-hwy buddy! What are you doing up?" His dad put up a smile that wasn't fooling any of them.
Janus raised an eyebrow, "I can ask you the same question… been thinking about her?" He asked softly.
His dad let out an empty chuckle, shaking his head, "I always think about her… I never stopped… but yeah, I am.." he admitted, his barely-put-together cheerful persona falling away to reveal his sad and tired face.
He gestured weakly for Janus to sit next to him and they both stared at the picture in silence for a long moment. The three of them laughing and covered in mud on the floor.
Janus remembered that day, it was the day before the accident… it just finished raining and the sun was coming out of the clouds, making a beautiful rainbow. Janus' mom insisted they'll go out and take a picture with it so they rushed outside, his dad bringing their old camera and setting it up. They all posed but at the last second, Janus' dad slipped on the mud, making all three of them fall with him and they all burst into laughter right when the timer went down and the camera clicked.
Janus stared at himself in that picture, happy and healthy and… normal. Sometimes he forgets he ever was that… normal. His father's sigh broke him out of his thoughts.
"I should have been there…" he said quietly.
Janus held back his tears at the sound of his dad's regretful tone, "don't… it doesn't help anything… it just hurts you when you think like that… we can't change what happened."
"I know… I know you're right… but the feeling is still there… I yelled at her…" he trailed off with a sob, "my last moments with her were spent arguing over stupid things that don't matter… don't mean anything like you two mean to me…" he buried his face in his hands, taking shaky breaths. "What would she think of me now…"
Janus laid a hand on his father's trembling shoulders, "you're doing your best, she would love you for it… just like I do."
His dad relaxed back into the chair, leaning his head over his son's shoulder and relaxing slowly. "Thank you, son… that means a lot.."
They stayed that way for a long moment, before his dad lifted his head to look at Janus, "and why are you up?"
Janus sighed, he was hoping to avoid this question… "just thoughts… won't stop pestering me, ya know?" He tried but it was clear his dad wasn't buying it.
He took a deep breath, "...I went to Virgil's the other day…" he started. He never actually told his dad what happened between them, but the man was smart enough and knew him well enough to have a pretty good guess of the reason behind Virgil's sudden disappearance. "...and now I can't stop thinking about him again.." he admitted.
His father nodded in understanding, "I see… you never really told what happened between you two." He said carefully.
Normally, Janus would brush off the question, but his dad seems to need a distraction like this right now and it's not like it's some big secret… he can't stop thinking about it now anyway so might as well tell someone.
So, Janus took a deep breath, "there's not much to tell, really… one day he just stopped answering my texts… he stopped being in our usual meeting stops… then, a week or so later… I see him hanging with the popular group at our school. Not even meeting my eyes… I just can't stop wondering what I could have possibly done or said that drove him away like that… was he only my friend because he thought I was his only choice?"
Janus didn't realize he was crying until his dad reached out and wiped the tears from his cheeks, "I'm sorry son, that's awful." He hugged him gently.
Janus sniffed and sighed, "I probably deserved it…" he said quietly.
His dad pulled away to look him in the eyes, "no, you didn't, what Virgil did was not okay, you hear me?" He said firmly.
Janus nodded weakly and his dad gave him a comforting smile. "Come on, we both need to go to bed."
And they each got up and went to their rooms to try and get some sleep before the sun came up.
He woke up to his phone ringing.
Frowning, he pulled the phone off the charger and looked to see who was calling him.
He almost dropped his phone when he saw it was Roman of all people. Does it have something to do with their project? But it's sunday, couldn't that wait until they see each other at school on monday?
Mind racing, he nervously answered and put the phone to his ear, "hello?"
Silence.
"Roman?"
"...are you okay?"
Janus frowned, looking at the clock, "you woke me up at 8 in the morning on sunday just to ask me that?"
"Sorry I just felt really bad over what happened at Virgil's and I just had to see how you were doing…"
Janus was glad it was a phone call and that Roman couldn't see his blush, "w-what do you have to feel bad about? It's between me and Virg-"
"I know but I knew you had a history and I still convinced you to go and I'm so sorry, I didn't think it would be so painful for you…"
Roman started bubbling as Janus just sat there, stunned, "...you… blame yourself on yesterday?" He asked suddenly, making Roman stop.
"Um… yes? I guess it's kinda dumb huh?" He heard Roman chuckle awkwardly.
"No it's… actually sweet…" Janus thought to himself with heated cheeks.
"What?"
Janus suddenly realized he said it out loud and hung up immediately, heart racing. What the fuck is he doing?
He waited anxiously to see if Roman would call again, but when nothing happened, he sighed in relief and went downstairs to start on making breakfast for him and his dad.
"Someone is up early, it smells amazing here." His father greeted him a few hours later as he walked into the kitchen, "can I help with anything?"
Janus turned from the pan on the stove to raise an eyebrow at his dad, "last time you 'helped' I almost had to call the fire department."
"Hey! That was not my fault! The instructions were very confusing!" His dad protested with a grin.
Janus just shook his head with a smile and turned back to the pancakes he was in the middle of making.
They were just about to sit down to eat when a knock was heard from the door.
With a sigh, Janus grubbed his cane and went to answer it.
He was feeling strangely better today. He never imagined telling his dad what happened would make much of a difference but… it really did. It still hurt, but it was more dull than before… weird.
He opened the door and nearly dropped his cane when he saw who it was.
"Um… hey…" said Virgil awkwardly, "c-can we talk?"

Have I talked about Skyrim au? Probably. I know I've at least mentioned it. Anywho. I'd say I'll be brief but I'm laughing at myself. Me? Brief? No way
Remus — Remus is a part of the Dark Brotherhood. They are ! assassins ! He specializes in contracts that are meant to send a message to the general public and he's kind of weird. A bit like Cicero but even Cicero says there's something off about him. He fits in extremely well though and it satiates his blood lust enough for him to actually chill the hell out the rest of the time.
Roman — Roman is a part of the Companions! They are a warriors guild and he has proven himself to be one of the best among them. A true shield-brother! He's also a werewolf in the inner circle (a fact of which Remus is extremely jealous) and he always plays the hero for whatever they have to do.. which is good because its the schtick. Clearing bounties, picking bandits off the roads, whatever. He's up for it.
Logan — Logan is a professor at the College Of Winterhold! I'm going to pretend there is more storyline to the College and actual classes because I love mage Logan and he deserves love!! He actually kind of hates that it's freezing there but he wants to learn more magic so he does. I love him and he is babey. I'm on a Logan kick rn.
Patton — Patton attends the Bards College in Solitude. He learns to play instruments and he travels. Why? Honestly, I just really like the idea of someone thinking he's a stupid bard but he has gossip from across Skyrim and will break his lute on someone's head if he needs to. I don't want to push Innocent Useless Patton; he's a deadly bitch. And bards aren't usually deadly in Skyrim so I'm changing things for him <3
Virgil — Virgil is a vampire in Clan Volkihar but he's often on the roads instead. He's not a big fan of the leader of the clan (Harkon when I catch you Harkon) and was actually friends with his daughter Serana before she went missing (to his knowledge). He was originally a member of the Dawnguard (vampire hunters) but he contracted vampirism and couldn't cure it in time. He treats it as a "you ever have one of those days where this might as well happen?" thing.
Janus — Janus is a thief in the Thieves Guild in Riften. I have been waiting for this. He is one of the best thieves they've got and he's cocky about it. He's basically Vex, except that he's actually better at pickpocketing and sneaking into places. He's also a fence, which means anything stolen that he's given he'll turn around and sell for a profit. He's immensely cocky but it's for a good reason.
Thomas — Dragonborn. Just some dude who turned out to be Dragonborn and is now travelling and oh god, why does he have to meet such interesting people?
Anyway they all know each other. Virgil and Janus are exes, Patton and Logan grew up together, the twins see each other like once in a blue moon but Remus occasionally tries to kill Roman for the fun of it (it's practice!), and I love them all dearly. I'm actually replaying Skyrim so !! Yippee !! I have something to base all this on :D

One's Hometown, One's New Home
Chapter Five: A Home Full Of Memories
Masterpost | First | Previous | Next | Ao3
@tss-anxceit-week
Summary: Janus’ hometown is a usually quiet place where everyone knows everyone. So when someone new moves in, they’re usually the hottest topic of local gossip. The newcomer then comes by the library Janus works at, he can’t help but chat with him a little. Doesn’t hurt that he’s good looking as well.
Content Warnings: Blood mention, Injuries, Past Parental Death
~*~
Thankfully, Virgil let Janus help him keep his weight off of his injured foot for the short trip back to Janus’ house. It was a two-story building with a big garden that had a few apple trees Janus absolutely adored. He’d lived in this house his entire life apart from the few years he went to college, and it had been in his family’s possession even before his great-grandparents generation.
“That’s a big place for just one person,” Virgil commented as Janus unlocked the front door.
“True. And it’s a bit lonely at times, I’ll admit. But I couldn’t bear to part with it, it holds too many memories.”
“I didn’t take you for the sentimental type.”
“I’ve heard that a lot for some reason.”
Janus led Virgil inside and motioned for him to take off his shoes and jacket. While Virgil was still untying the laces on his heavy boots, Janus went to dispose of his grocery bags in the kitchen. When he returned, Virgil was just getting back on his feet.
“Let’s go to the bathroom, I have a first aid kit there,” Janus offered and Virgil nodded, following behind him deeper into the house. In the hallway they passed, Virgil noticed a lot of picture frames on the wall. He could recognize Janus in a lot of them, but there was also an older woman and a pair that were probably his parents.
“You can ask about them if you’re curious.”
Virgil startled. He hadn’t even noticed he’s stopped. Before him was a picture in a slightly bigger frame than the rest that showed all four of the people he had already noticed filled most of the pictures. Janus looked about eight years old, grinning widely from his position between his parents. The older woman stood behind them.
“You don’t mind?” he asked, looking over to Janus, who stood at an open door that led to the previously mentioned bathroom.
“Well, this might take a while, so having a topic to talk about would be preferable, right?”
“Right,” Virgil murmured. He took one last look at the picture before limping over to Janus and entering the bathroom. Janus directed him to sit on the closed toilet lid before kneeling in front of him to inspect his leg.
“I think it would be best if you could take the pants off,” he said after a moment and got back on his feet. He walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a towel. “Here, to cover up. I’ll get what I need from the first aid kit while you get undressed.”
With a nod, Virgil accepted the towel and watched as Janus grabbed the metal box with a red cross on the front and left the room with it. Then he carefully peeled the pants off his leg. He gritted his teeth as the dried blood tried to keep them glued to his leg, but it wasn’t that bad compared to other wounds he’d had in the past. He called out to Janus as soon as he had the towel secured around his waist and was seated on the toilet again.
The other came back in with the metal box opened and organized for their needs. He kneeled back down at Virgil’s feet and got to work.
“Well then, thought of any questions to ask me?” Janus quipped as he cleaned off the dried blood. Virgil glanced down but quickly averted his gaze again. Not because of the blood but because of how close Janus was to him. His face flushed and he cleared his throat.
“Where is your family, if that’s not too personal a question to ask? From the pictures I would have guessed they lived here, too.”
“It’s not,” Janus reassured. “My mom technically still lives here, she’s just traveling. Backpacking in Thailand last I heard. She comes home every once in a while, but not on any regular schedule. My grandmother died a few years back, during my last year in college. She had been sick for a while, so it wasn’t surprising and I got to say goodbye to her properly. I actually inherited this house from her. And my dad…” Janus paused and took a deep breath. “My dad passed away in an accident when I was ten.”
“Oh,” Virgil breathed. “My condolences.”
Janus smiled sadly but didn’t look up.
“Thank you. It wasn’t easy but Mom did her best to console me. She and my grandma worked together to give me everything I could have wanted. I didn’t have to get a job in school and they helped me pay for college.”
They were quiet for a moment since Virgil had no idea how to respond. Instead, he opted to change topics.
“How did you know? That that wolf was me?”
“I didn’t really. Like I said, it was just intuition.”
“That’s some weird intuition you have.”
“I’m aware. Might be because of the naga blood.”
Virgil’s head shot downward, staring at Janus’ head as he bandaged up the wound. He hadn’t even noticed him clean it.
“What do you mean, naga blood?”
“My grandma used to say that we have naga blood running through our veins. Apparently one of my ancestors was a monsterfucker. There’s no proof and I’m not sure I believe it, but I do have a kind of strange sixth sense. I can tell most of the time when someone’s lying to me and I have a good sense for danger.”
“That’s the weirdest fucking thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Says the werewolf and cryptid enthusiast.”
“I’d believe in vampires or mermaids, but nagas? Half snake, half human?”
Janus looked up, cocking his eyebrow.
“Why is that so much less believable?”
“I don’t know!”
“Well, you’re the first supernatural creature I’ve met. Makes my grandmother’s stories a lot more believable.”
Virgil’s eyes widened.
“You didn’t know about werewolves until right now?! And you still approached me and let me go?! I could have killed you!”
“I know. But I felt like you wouldn’t. And you didn’t,” Janus smiled. He’d finished bandaging up the wound and put the first aid kit back together.
“You’re unbelievable.”
“Again, says the werewolf.” Janus rolled his eyes. “Anyway, the wound looks a lot better than I expected after seeing your leg yesterday.”
“Well, we heal a lot faster than humans. And the wound wasn’t the problem, but I think I might have broken a bone or something. That’ll take a bit longer.”
Janus raised an eyebrow.
“Does it need to be set? Or will it grow back together right on its own?”
“On its own. I don’t really know how that works either, but apparently it snaps itself back to how it’s supposed to be.”
“I am really curious now about how you became a werewolf. It doesn’t seem like you’ve been like this from the start.”
Virgil narrowed his eyes.
“Your naga senses tell you that?” he huffed.
“Maybe,” Janus grinned, and Virgil rolled his eyes.
“Fine, I’ll tell you under one condition. ‘Cause I’m not sure I can trust you yet.”
“Alright. Shoot.” Janus leaned against the sink, having put away the first aid kit, and watched Virgil intently.
“You’re asking me something super personal, so I want to know something personal in return.”
Janus hesitated for a moment before nodding, “Go on.”
Virgil sat up a bit straighter.
“When we first met, you said that I was like your father, coming to this town without wanting to talk about the past. I’d like to hear that story first.”
They stared at each other for a long moment before Janus sighed.
“Well, I did say I’d tell you if you took me out for a drink, didn’t I?” He chuckled and Virgil could hear the sadness behind it. “Fine, but let’s move this to a more comfortable seat. Join me in the living room?”

The Sides favourite eurovision songs
I was inspired by this post to think about what the sides favourite songs at eurovision would be, so here they are!!
Remus - CHA CHA CHA is his favourite eurovision song, his favourite thing in the world, his reason for living. He wears Käärijä's outfit for at least a month after eurovision.
Roman - Queen of the Kings would obviously be his absolute favourite, but I think he'd also love Eaea. He's probably also a fan of Loreen, and yes there was definitely all-out war in the mindscape between him and Remus after the final.
Patton - He would unironically like Bejba (Solo) I'm so sorry. He doesn't know about any of the controversy he just thinks it's a fun little song and also he has no music taste. Sorry again.
Logan - I can definitely see him enjoying Heart of Steel, and I think he'd like the ballads.
Janus - His favourites would definitely be Eaea and Ai Coração. They just have his vibes.
Virgil - He would not watch eurovision unless under duress, however he would be pretty happy about the metal songs, and I can see him being a fan of Samo Mi Se Spava. He would also probably listen to Break A Broken Heart on repeat, totally not while thinking about a certain snake...

What your favorite sanders sides ship says about you in my opinion
I got this idea from @sandersontheside
Logince: Your favorite episode is why do we get out of bed in the morning and you question that too. You’re a fan of those red and blue haired character anime ships, and let’s not mention how much you love enemies to lovers. I feel like you like spaghetti with a shit ton of Parmesan, and sprite or Pepsi.
Logicality: You like sweet, wholesome ships the most and have probably either written a fan fiction about, read a fan fiction, or have thought about them baking cookies together. Also for some reason I feel like you like John Mulaney
Analogical: You like angst, not a crazy amount but you like to dip your ankles in it. Speaking of dip you probably either really like ranch or bbq sauce. And your favorite squishmallow is the bat one.
Loceit: You’re either the most chaotic person I will ever meet or you’re scarily chill about everything. You like it when all sense of right and wrong leave the room and just pure chaos despite how chaotically chill Logan and Janus are. You’ve definitely committed arson, and you’re a fan of tin cans and rainbows.
Intrulogical: You’re special, with love. I bet you watch doctor who while deepthroating packets of fun dip, sweet tarts, and/or hot tamales, I don’t have much else to say (I like this ship btw)
Royality: Opposites attract isn’t a thing that even registers in your brain, and despite what I want to think you’re probably the friend who corrupts the brains of your innocent friends and tells them about god knows what. If that’s not the case though you are the innocent friend who has surrounded themselves with not very innocent people. You like pasta with cumin. You also really like blueberries, soy sauce, and bluey.
Prinxiety: You’re correct. You prefer Ryan Gosling over Ryan Reynolds and you hate honeydew. You also probably have social anxiety.
Roceit: You like longer slow burn fanfictions and not just one shots, that along with enemies to lovers and a lot of tension. You’re definitely a maximalist when it comes to your room and you love rupauls drag race.
Moxiety: You’re a really sweet introvert and you like romance movies with happy endings. You probably like Mac Demarco and Arctic Monkeys and you like the scent of vanilla.
Moceit: (Kiss me) You really like stuffed animals and just fuzzy things in general. You’re a dog person but you like more cuddly cat-like dogs. You also like tomato soup.
Intruality: You’re super chaotic but super sweet, probably an Enfp or Entp. You like pickles and skunks and peanut butter cookies and cars 2.
Anxceit: You’re favorite social media is tumblr and you miss MySpace. You love hoodies and sweaters, your favorite season is winter, and you really like old artwork. You’re also really good at makeup, especially eye makeup
Dukexiety: You’re probably super all over the place and your rooms a mess but you know where everything is. You also really like snake plants and spiders
Dukeceit: You love the whole “He’s an idiot, but that’s my idiot” thing about this ship. If you have a roku it’s not set to the default theme and you probably like 90s-00s hiphop and you despise when your bed has crumbs in it.
Remrom: …

Note
Do you dislike any ships?
Moxiety is probably the only ship I can’t follow. I’ve always viewed Patton and Virgil as an estranged Father/Son dynamic and it’s impossible for me to put them in a romantic space.
Honorable Mentions:
Intrulogical
Anxceit

@tsspromptmonth opened comment banking for their Sleepy Bean Cafe event where comments made on Sanders Sides fics after the 26th of October can be used to commission fics from volunteers.
For anyone looking to pad their pockets with comments to spend, here's a list of stories I feel could really use the love:
Passion needs fuel by FeelingGroovySmooth Canonverse (Other) Rating: G Roman is lacking drive in his creative pursuits, leading him to abandon many of his projects. Remus catches on and makes a point to address the issue. Notes: This one I wanted to highlight in particular, because I think this story wonderfully captures the appeal of participating in the cafe event. Creating art, especially telling stories, is an act of communication, and it's hard not to be sensitive to the response. Especially when that response is silence. (And part of why I love doing rec lists. I get anxious and self-conscious and I'm not always good at comments (though I'm trying!) but if I can get more eyes on the stories that I've loved, maybe the authors who made them can get the appreciation they deserve.)
The Prince and the Frog by Radioactive_Jelly (WIP) Fairytale AU (Moceit, Anxceit, Dukexiety, Logince) Rating: Not Rated Prince Janus is having doubts about his upcoming marriage to Virgil. His brothers, Roman and Remus, are determined to stop the wedding for him (though Remus might have ulterior motives in that regard). At least he has his tiny frog friend near the pond to keep him company during his turmoil. Nothing at all complicated there. Notes: Who doesn't love a Fairytale AU? (But honestly, they had me at the promise of "Lovers to Friends" Anxceit.)
Some others I've recced before, but would love to see get more love:
Wolfsbane by TheFoxofFiction (WIP) Supernatural/Fantasy AU. (Loceit) Rating: T Janus is a werewolf fleeing a past filled with isolation and tragedy who, after a brush with death, falls into the care of a witch. Logan manages to save him from his injuries, but he soon learns that the real challenge is saving Janus from himself... Notes: Slowburn Loceit and trauma recovery, it's fantastic.
Animal Skin and its sequel Take a Bite by Willowanderer Supernatural AU. (Dukeceit, Prinxiety) Rating: M Janus and Virgil are brothers who meet a pair of intriguing twins. An amusing amount of drama (romance, mystery, patricide) ensues. Notes: I feel like "Take a Bite" might have been missed by a lot of eyes, because the tags warn (in my opinion) much heavier than what what the content of the fic actually warrants. (And I nearly missed it on that basis myself, since it does use a tag I normally filter.) This fic is more supernatural family drama than it is anything else. (Apart from the tiny bit of premeditated murder...) The tags in question: Underage and "allusions to bestiality". There is no sexual content in the fic itself. The first warning is for mention of underage characters having had sex in the past, and a plot point brushing up against the trafficking of an underage character. And the second is in reference to uncouth Remus thoughts about a hypothetical scenario involving a fully sapient and consenting shapeshifter in animal form.
Remus's Roleplaying Romp by LeftoverParadox Canonverse (Gen) Rating: M When Roman shuts him out of getting involved in Thomas's roleplaying pursuits, Remus decides to show him by throwing his efforts into running a tabletop game for the sides. Hilarity and hijinks (but also some feels) ensue. Notes: Probably one of my favorite fics in the fandom (combining, as it does, two of my own personal obsessions very beautifully). Remus radiates chaotic DM energy, the sides are all so in character, and the game plays out hilariously. (Roman is tagged as being unsympathetic, but he's really just a bit of a dismissive ass towards Remus at the start. He does eventually come around, though after some proportionate comeuppance.)
they say that it gets better (but i guess that was a lie) by Cicadas_on_a_rainy_day (WIP) Canonverse (Gen) Rating: Not Rated/T Thomas starts paying closer attention to some of Remus’s behavior, which leads to unexpected, painful repercussions for everyone else in the Mindscape. Notes: Updating as a series of Whumptober prompts. Some great character moments, and exploration of how the Sides function within Thomas’s mind. The author has an amazing talent for telling a story with what the characters aren't saying out loud. (The series summary promises an eventual happy ending, and I’m clinging to that.)
Remus’ Brilliant Plan by CrystalHavoc Canonverse (Moceit, Intrulogical, Intruality…technically) Rating: M Remus is bored, horny, annoyed with Virgil, fed up with being ignored by Logan, and amused by Janus’s crush on a certain father figment. Obviously, the answer to all of these problems is the same simple solution: He needs to have sex with Patton. Notes: This one is so fucking funny, I don’t even know where to start. (Also writing a story where Remus propositions Patton is easy, writing a story where it feels believable that Patton might say yes, that's a lot harder to pull off.)
(I'll probably pull out other recs when I have the chance, and my rec tags are full of other gems, but these were the ones that quickly came to mind.)

Note
give me a hot take of a fandom you're in
i have MANY hot takes of many fandoms i'm in, but as this is mainly a sanders sides blog im putting a bunch of hot takes for sasi here
-remus sanders has no angst and if he gets any it won't be for a while
-logicality and prinxiety are cute, but INSANELY overrated and outshine more niche ships like intruality or anxceit
-janus shouldn't have fangs, if anyone should it's remus. fangs don't fit with janus's vibe- cunning, condescending- despite him being a snake. remus however, is chaotic and loud, could be aggressive if he felt like it, so fangs fit him really well. i can kinda see virgil with them too, and while it's fun drawing fangs on janus i just don't think they fit him.
-roman is a bad person. despite going through so much character development, he's still garbage to logan and occasionally virgil. patton is the only side other than himself he isn't a bitch to. in this essay i will
-logan should get his own solo song (and with all the songs in the finale thomas is mentioning, he's sure to get one, but if anyone gets one it needs to be him)
-character thomas is underrated
-patton's character arc is overlooked as hell.
-moving on (in full) was the most emotionally conflicting episode.

One's Hometown, One's New Home
Chapter Two: Coffee and Mothman
Masterpost | Previous | Next | Ao3
@tss-anxceit-week
Content Warnings: Cryptids mention, Mothman mention
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Janus walked into Dan’s Bean Stop the following Sunday, expecting nothing but buying a nice frappe. So, when his eyes fell on Virgil hiding away in one corner, sitting alone at his laptop, he was pleasantly surprised.
“Hello Janus! You’re looking well!” Dan, the owner, greeted as he stepped up to the counter. Dan’s son Evan had been in Janus’ class during school and they had been good friends. Janus had been to their house often enough for Dan to become a person he was comfortable around.
“I am, thank you. Enjoying the horrible weather on my day off.”
Dan chuckled at his obvious lie, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky today. “As you should! Now, what can I get you.”
“Caramel frappe, please.”
“To go or you sticking around a bit?”
Janus’ eyes wandered back over to Virgil, who hadn’t seemed to notice him despite Dan speaking rather loudly.
“I think I’d like to sit down a little bit.”
Dan raised his eyebrow. It was unusual for Janus to stay, though not unheard of.
“Got it. That’ll be four dollars.”
Janus paid and left Dan to prepare his drink. He gingerly stepped over to Virgil’s table, trying to be obvious enough about it so the other didn’t startle. His effort was in vain however, since Virgil was too absorbed in his laptop to notice his approach. Janus cleared his throat when he stood directly in front of him and Virgil jumped.
“Fucking shit,” he cursed, gripping at his chair. “Don’t sneak up on me.”
“I wasn’t sneaking! I even went out of my way to be noticeable. It’s not my fault you didn’t pay any attention to your surroundings,” Janus huffed and sat down. Virgil stared at him without blinking for a long moment and Janus noticed the dark bags under his eyes.
“You’re from the library, right?”
“You forgot me already, I’m hurt!” Janus declared dramatically, with his hand over his heart.
Virgil rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a small smile. “I’ve met a lot of pushy people every day since I moved here, you’re not that special.”
“How curious. I was told I was ‘a special kind of guy’ all throughout college.”
“What do you want?” Virgil sighed, abandoning their banter.
“Simply some company for a drink. If you don’t want me here though, I will leave. I’m not trying to force myself on you.” Janus watched Virgil closely for his reaction and while he looked a bit torn for a moment, he finally shook his head.
“No, it’s fine. I should take a break anyway.” He underlined his statement by closing the laptop and Janus’ eyes fall onto a few stickers that hadn’t been as visible until that moment. The ones he found most interesting were a progressive pride flag and another that said ‘Be Gay, Do Crime.’
“What are you working on, if you don’t mind me asking?” he asked as Dan approached with his drink.
“Interrogating the new guy, Janus? Cut him some slack.”
“But how else will I find out if he’s a government spy? Mothman could be in danger!” Dan laughed loudly, pat Janus on the back and left them alone.
“Mothman? Really?” Virgil asked, amused.
“What? Don’t believe in cryptids? I would have guessed you the type that did.”
“Oh, I do believe in cryptids, especially Mothman, but there’s no way in hell he’s anywhere close to here.”
“And why is that?”
Apparently that little question opened the floodgates since Virgil’s eyes lit up and he started rambling about why the climate around their little town was not at all what Mothman would prefer. Janus sipped his latte and listened.
~~~
“You know quite a lot about Mothman,” Janus stated when Virgil finally winded down almost ten minutes later.
“Yeah, well… I didn’t have many friends in school, so I did a lot of research.” Virgil seemed uncomfortable with the topic, so Janus didn’t pry further, though he did file away the bit of information to maybe bring up a later time when they’re more familiar with each other.
“I hope you can consider me a friend then.”
Virgil flushed lightly. “I’d like that. Thanks, Janus. I was really nervous about moving to a new place alone since I generally don’t have a great track record of making friends, so… yeah. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, Virgil. I don’t know why you would have problems though. I think you are a very intriguing person to talk to, but I guess I’m just a better judge of character than most.”
“Oh, shut up,” Virgil muttered, his face getting redder. “I’m insufferable.”
“Right, an absolute pain to be around. That’s why I came to your table on my own accord and let you infodump about Mothman for ten minutes.” Janus rolled his eyes playfully and Virgil smiled.
“Sorry. I’ve been told I have a problem with self-deprecation.”
“No need to apologize. I will call you out on it, however. Annoy you until you stop.”
“Can’t wait,” Virgil said dryly and Janus laughed.
“Would you be open to come by for dinner sometime? I could use the company.”
“You live alone? I wouldn’t have pegged you the type.” Virgil raised an eyebrow, watching Janus intently. He in turn just shrugged.
“It just happened to work out that way. If you’d like to hear the story you could buy me another drink.”
“If you continue talking like that, it will sound like we’re on a date.”
“I wouldn’t mind that.”
Until that point, Janus hadn’t been seriously flirting with Virgil, even if he couldn’t deny that he was interested in him on a more than platonic level. It seemed that Virgil had a different opinion, as he suddenly went ridged and reached for his laptop.
“I think I have to leave now.”
“Wait, Virgil!” Janus stood as the other hurriedly got up and shoved his laptop in his bag. “I didn’t mean to upset you, I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine, you’re fine, I just— I have somewhere to be, excuse me.” He didn’t let Janus say another word before he quickly left the shop. Janus watched him through the glass front until he was out of sight.
Had he really misinterpreted their interactions that badly?

On Death's Doorstep (pt 42/53)
[<<First],,,,[<Prev],[Next>] [ODD Masterlist]
Word count: 2164
Rating: teen
Pairings: Karrot Kings, minor Anxceit, familial Moceit, minor boring heterosexual ocs
Warnings: identity theft, depression, kidnapping, mentioned threats of violence, mentions of drugs
~~~START~~~
Sophie Lafferty was a mousy woman, awkward in the extreme, and was prone to bouts of eccentricity, but despite all that, she had a reputation for being a hard worker. Usually, during this point of the summer, she’d be off on vacation with her family for two weeks, but this year both of her parents were sick, so the vacation had been pushed to August.
Sophie worked a desk job in the legal department of the MAA, the work could be boring at times, and most of what she did was research assigned to her by the higher ups about some historic building that a supervillain had blown a hole through, or the insurance policy on a billionaire’s skyscraper that had mysteriously been damaged in a fight that happened twelve blocks away, or a similar case to the one they were working that had happened ten years ago on the other side of the country. One day, Sophie thought, she’d be one of those higher ups, maybe even appearing as a counselor in a court case or two. But that wouldn’t be for a long time yet, for now, she would have to content herself with following the paper trail of one Logan Crofter until he mysteriously dropped off the face of the earth six years ago to see if there was any hint of where he’d gone.
It was the kind of project that could catapult her career if she did find something, but unfortunately for Sophie Lafferty, she was currently on a cruise to the Bahamas with her family — including her parents, who weren’t any kind of sick except, perhaps, seasick — while someone who looked a lot like Sophie, and talked a lot like Sophie told her bosses that her vacation had been postponed while thoroughly bungling their research on Prof. Crofter.
Usually, Janus’s impersonation act didn’t last long — a couple hours to kidnap a politician, a day to infiltrate a shitty business — but this was a deeper operation than usual. In two weeks, Sophie would be back and the jig would be up, so they would need to get all the information on where Virgil was being kept, what kind of security was in place, and when the best time to act would be and stage a rescue before the MAA knew there’d been a security breach. No pressure.
“Morning, Soph!” A security guard said, stopping next to Sophie’s desk for a moment. Sophie and Lee were very friendly, a fact that was both an asset and a hindrance to Janus — on the one hand, Lee had a greater chance of noticing something was off with Sophie, but on the other hand, Janus might have use for a security guard later, depending on how things shook out.
“Hi Lee.” The voice modulator itched against Janus’s neck, but they resisted the urge to fiddle with it.
“Sorry to hear about your vacation.”
“It’s okay, I wouldn’t want to go without my parents anyway. Besides, we’ll go in August. What about you, any big summer plans?” Janus couldn’t force themself to smile even if they tried, but that hardly mattered to the illusion — Sophie’s lips curled upwards in the expression of a person who honestly cared what this man did with his life.
“Nah, I’m more of a winter sports guy,” Lee grinned as though that were in any way impressive.
“Oh.” It was, based on Janus’s observations, usually around this point in a conversation that Sophie ran out of things to say, so they said nothing.
Lee stood there for a moment, marinating in the awkward silence before clearing his throat. “Well, I should be going now.”
“Yeah.” Please leave.
“Bye Soph.”
“Yeah.”
Janus resisted the urge to gag as Lee walked away, there were other people in the office who might hear if they did, even if their actual face was hidden.
Turning back to their work, Janus found an article about a boat that sank in the Gulf of Mexico two weeks after Logan dropped off the radar, everyone on board had drowned. They added it to the research on Prof. Crofter they were assembling, they were amusing themself by reimagining Logan as more of the Walter White type, maybe he’d drowned while smuggling drugs — Logan would hate this interpretation (for many reasons, not the least of which being how close to the truth it was) but it was exactly the kind of thing that would fuzz the radar while still looking like Janus was actually working.
A small usb drive sat innocently plugged into the computer, scanning away for the kind of security and monitoring there was on Sophie’s desktop before Janus started with their actual work.
Their day was long and boring. They stole Jared’s lunch just to amuse themself — he almost had a full-blown temper-tantrum when he opened the fridge to find his tupperware full of bland chicken missing. Lilie from accounting spent almost an hour monologuing at them about… something, honestly Janus hadn’t been paying attention. And at the end of the day, everyone gathered in the break room to celebrate Jason’s birthday — it took everything they had not to burst out laughing when they realized.
Finally, as they were gathering their stuff to leave for the day, their hacker drive finished its work. They would need to wait until they got home to see what kind of security they were working with, but at least that meant they could get started first thing tomorrow — plus, they had already outlined most of the details in their Crofter-equals-drug-smuggler “theory”, so they should be good for the next week or so as far as Sophie’s work went.
They drove Sophie’s car back to Sophie’s building where they parked in Sophie’s parking spot and walked up to Sophie's apartment. Her lights had been set on a timer to make it look like she was spending the night there, but as soon as Janus entered, they left again, this time hiding themself from sight completely. They walked down the block to where their own car was parked, and then proceeded to drive back to their actual home.
What they should do was go straight upstairs to Logan so they could go over the MAA system’s security, but instead what they did was detour to what was formerly Roman’s apartment before they moving in with his sister and was now, after a couple reconfigurations of the housing arrangements, the — hopefully temporary — apartment of Thomas and Nico Sanders-Flores and their grandson Patton.
Janus knocked politely, and after a moment, Nico answered the door. It was always awkward to spend time with Thomas and Nico — seeing how Janus had kidnapped them and all — but they were Virgil’s parents, and Patton’s grandparents, and Janus would just have to work through the awkwardness.
“Oh, hi Janus,” Nico gave them a strained smile, which Janus returned in kind.
Before they could say their own polite greeting, however, the smoke alarm began to sound.
“Thomas Sanders!” Nico turned and yelled into the apartment. He walked away from the door, leaving it open, so Janus took that as an invitation. “I turned my back on you for less than a second! How did you burn something already?”
Janus followed Nico to the kitchen where they found Thomas desperately fanning an inflamed pan in a futile attempt at putting it out.
“I don’t know!” Thomas cried as Nico got the fire extinguisher out from under the sink and put out the fire.
“I can see where Virgil got his kitchen skills from,” Janus commented dryly. To Janus’s surprise, Thomas actually laughed at that.
Nico shook his head in exasperation. “I’ve been trying so hard to teach either of them how to make anything. It might just be impossible.”
“It’s not so bad,” Janus pointed out. “Virgil’s been getting the hang of it.”
“Really?” Nico asked, looking excited for all of one second before it was replaced with a look of intense sadness. “I guess… I guess it’s been a while since we’ve seen him.”
Janus cursed themself internally; their score was currently Janus: 1, awkwardness: 1.
“Uh, where’s Patton?” They asked, knowing that at least Patton didn’t mind when they were awkward.
Thomas frowned and Nico turned away from them entirely.
“He’s in the living room,” Thomas explained. “Today hasn’t been a good day.”
“Oh.” Janus: 1, awkwardness: 2. “I’ll, um…” Janus pointed towards the living room, then walked away.
Awkwardness: 3.
Patton was curled in a ball on the floor in front of the couch, The Princess and the Frog was playing on the TV, but Patton didn’t seem to notice.
“Hey, Pat,” Janus said softly, taking a seat next to the kid and attempting to put their hand on his back. Their hand sank through him as they realized what Thomas meant by it not being a good day. “How are you feeling today?”
The question wasn’t necessary, even if the intangibility didn’t give him away, Patton projected when he had strong emotions, and the sadness rolling off him reminded Janus of themself at their mama’s funeral.
Patton didn’t answer, or even look at them, so Janus contented themself with quietly sitting beside him.
After several minutes and a song about what the main characters would do once they were human, Patton spoke up, quietly. “Mommy, will you tell me a story?”
Janus startled, but any thought of correcting the boy went out the window when they found Patton staring at them with big, watery eyes.
“Of course, dear,” Janus said instead, tamping down any trace of panic. “How about the story of when I met your daddy?”
Patton nodded eagerly, so Janus launched into the story.
“It was probably about six or seven years ago — before you were born — and I was a law student. Frankie hadn’t joined the business yet, but he had been selling black market gadgets for a few years and had already decided to take me under his wing, so to speak — he likes to think he was my mentor because he was a criminal first, but I was a supervillain first, so it’s really six of one, half dozen of the other.
“Now, in one of my classes we had recently discussed a situation that had been in the news about the chief of police. I felt that the chief was getting away with some nasty stuff with no repercussions, so I decided to… scare him a little bit — it’s not like I was really going to drop him off that building.” It suddenly occurred to Janus that this might not be the best story for a five-year-old, but Patton looked enraptured, so they continued.
“I had just gotten him to make a blubbery confession for my camera when we were interrupted. Your dad was dressed like a grade A dork, horns greener than you can believe–”
“Daddy doesn’t have horns,” Patton frowned, leaning his whole weight into Janus’s arm.
“It’s an expression, kiddo, what I mean was, he was new to the business and it was obvious. Now, he ordered me to ‘let that poor man go!’ and I was tempted to follow his order to the letter, but turning the chief into a martyr wasn’t on my agenda at that time, so I brought him back on the roof and let him flop like a fish.
“‘Poor?’ I said. ‘No, not yet he’s not.’ Your dad didn’t like that. He was cute, all angry and just, I just couldn’t stop myself from flirting. Most heroes, once someone as fruity as me starts flirting with them, go from cute-angry to bigot-angry pretty quickly, but Virgil just got more flustered.
“I may have gotten a little too in to flirting with him, and he nearly managed to catch me when he make some bright starburst in front of my eyes, causing me to see spots, but I’d had years of experience to fall back on, and I knew when it was time to cut and run. The chief wasn’t in any position to catch me — he was still experiencing adverse effects to altitude — so I made a mental illusion of myself in your dad’s mind and had it fly away, mostly to test whether or not your dad could fly.”
“He can’t,” Patton said.
“No,” Janus agreed. “He can’t, so he stooped down to help the chief while I waltzed away at my leisure — that trick never worked on him again, by the way.”
“Hey guys,” Thomas interrupted gently. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Okay,” Patton stood, sadness no longer leaking from his pores. “Thanks, mommy.”
He wrapped his little arms around his neck before running off to collide with his grandpa’s legs.
“Pop pop?” Patton asked as Thomas lifted him into his arms. “Can we have cookies after dinner?”
“Sure kiddo,” Thomas smiled. “Whatever you want.”
Thomas smiled at Janus before turning to carry Patton to the table, and Janus felt a little bit of tension leak from them. Janus: 2, awkwardness: 3.
~~~END~~~
Y’know that awkwardness when you’re meeting your significant other’s parents after you kidnapped them because your significant other has been kidnapped, and also your significant other’s child has spontaneously begun referring to you as their parent?

"folklore" by taylor swift is a great album to listen to when you can't seem to get the situation of virgil leaving the dark sides (and maybe an anxceit breakup) out of your head. i've already talked about my tears ricochet, and now here's exile. i mean an angsty duet is perfect for the two of them, is it not?
I can see you standing, honey
it's important to note that janus only started showing up and being seen after virgil was accepted. this line specifically makes me think of "can lying be good?" as janus was hidden for most of the episode. besides his pro-thomas lying agenda, he was also observing the group.
With his arms around your body
Laughin', but the joke's not funny at all
Now you can choose to view this through a virgil x light side ship or through a purely platonic lens. the overall idea still is janus resentfully seeing virgil hanging out with the light sides.
And it took you five whole minutes
To pack us up and leave me with it
Holdin' all this love out here in the hall
compared to episodes now, accepting anxiety pt 2 is actually pretty short. it did not take long for virgil to open up to the light sides and effectively leave the dark sides. obviously this would be a sore topic for janus as we've seen in the series he seems to not be over virgil's departure.
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
You're not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
janus seems to be a sort of leader of the dark sides, whether he's just making himself be perceived that way or actually is we don't know. we do know he has power over remus to some extent, spray bottle with soap, and it's not too much to assume he had a level of control or at least leadership over virgil. if you are to subscribe to the idea of past anxceit, or even past platonic relations, this would probably lead to the two of them being close at one point. now that virgil has moved away from the dark sides, janus is lost on what to defend.
You were my town
Now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before
again, the two of them we probably close before virgil's acceptance. the dark sides are almost treated as though they are exiled, as if the light sides would ban them if they could. one could view this as a explicit mention to janus being a dark side or something along the lines of him not having felt like an true outcast until virgil left.
I can see you starin', honey
in the episode "can lying be good?" virgil does eventually realize that janus has taken patton's place and has been there the whole time.
Like he's just your understudy
Like you'd get your knuckles bloody for me
in the end care of "embarrassing phases: the nightmare instead of christmas", janus says in a taunting tone, "who knows? someday you might be rid of us all." it gives the impression that janus does not believe virgil will be able to be with the light sides forever, or at least be away from the dark sides forever. that entire conversation janus is questioning whether virgil's growth is really that monumental. he might see the light sides as simply an "understudy".
Second, third, and hundredth chances
Balancin' on breaking branches
Those eyes add insult to injury
i don't feel as though leaving the dark sides was a spur of the moment decision, i mean it's virgil he doesn't really make spur of the moment decisions. janus and virgil's motives and personalities do clash a bit and it's not impossible to think that their relationship was crumbling even before virgil left.
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
I'm not your problem anymore
So who am I offending now?
it's very typical of virgil to refer to himself as a problem, i think we know that at this point. who virgil is "offending" is an interesting question as when he was a dark side he was most likely not offending janus but rather the light sides as we saw with pre-accepting anxiety episodes. now he is closer to "offending" janus, though he still buts heads with the others. him questioning who he is offending and having insecurities based around it would make sense.
You were my crown
Now I'm in exile, seein' you out
virgil, in the literal sense i mentioned earlier, is no longer in exile, he is apart of the light sides. however, he can be seen as "in exile" in two ways. one being that he still has issues fitting into the group as we see in episodes such as "fitting in" and more recently "embarrassing phases: the nightmare instead of christmas". the second could be feeling exile from the dark sides and more specifically janus.
I think I've seen this film before
So I'm leavin' out the side door
this can specifically refer to virgil leaving the dark sides and being accepted by the main group.
So step right out, there is no amount
Of crying I can do for you
janus has not appeared to be sad about virgil but rather scornful and resentful. he is not begging virgil to stay, like i feel other sides if put in the same situation would, but he is not happy about it.
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
as i mentioned before, this relationship had to always be a rocky one. we know how virgil feels about lies and how they affect his anxiety, and this is bound to cause tension between the two even without other circumstances.
You didn't even hear me out (you didn't even hear me out)
this again makes me think of their differing perceptions of deception. it could also be applied to the period of time in early sander sides when virgil was beginning to have a more positive view of the light sides. any disagreement could be referenced here.
You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
there was plenty of foreshadowing that virgil was going to join the light sides eventually. the quote "i'm not always the bad guy" is great evidence of this. janus should've been able to predict that vigil was going to leave, but he may have been lying to himself and ignoring the signs.
All this time
I never learned to read your mind (never learned to read my mind)
I couldn't turn things around (you never turned things around)
this outlines the end of their relationship. the disagreements and hurt that linger today probably started from situations like this.
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
So many signs, so many signs
You didn't even see the signs
I think I've seen this film before
And I didn't like the ending
You're not my homeland anymore
So what am I defending now?
You were my town
Now I'm in exile, seein' you out
I think I've seen this film before
So I'm leavin' out the side door
So step right out, there is no amount
Of crying I can do for you
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn't even hear me out (didn't even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time
I never learned to read your mind (never learned to read my mind)
I couldn't turn things around (you never turned things around)
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time (so many signs)
I never learned to read your mind (so many signs)
I couldn't turn things around (I couldn't turn things around)
obviously there is not much to add towards the end here as it's mainly repetition. we do see a lyric change here with the second speaker, in our case virgil, saying "i couldn't turn things around" rather than "you never turning things around". i do think that virgil blames janus mostly for how they ended up; however, he knows he is not completely blameless. he left the dark sides rather than trying to work with them or bring them with him. he, to some degree, abandoned them.
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (you never gave a warning sign)
You never gave a warning sign
more sander sides x taylor swift content soon :)

For the ship ask game! Maybe anxceitmus and/or intrulogical?
Thanks for the ask!!!
Anxceitmus - ship it
1. What made you ship it?
I just love them a lot!! Anxceit, dukeceit and dukexiety r some of my favourite ships, and the dynamic of all the dark sides together is absolutely unparalleled.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
I think, again, the potential for headcanons and backstory stuff. I really like thinking about what things were like before Virgil left the dark sides. I think they had lots of movie nights and cuddle piles, not to mention prank wars.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Not really?? I just think they love each other a lot!!
Intrulogical - don't ship it
1. Why don’t you ship it?
Idk honestly, it's just not my vibe. The idea of nerd x chaos incarnate sounds great in theory, but for some reason their dynamic just doesn't interest me 🤷‍♀️
2. What would have made you like it?
I honestly don't know. Like I said, it's just not my vibe. However, I do really like intruloceit, the dynamic of those three together is brilliant (platonically as well). So I think intrulogical appeals more to me when one or both of them is dating Janus bc I rlly like loceit and dukeceit.
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
I do think they have a really fun dynamic, but one thing I like abt them is that they're both such nerds. They could have loads of fun discussions about the weirder sides of science that the others don't want to talk about, and if they ever decide to do some sciencey experiments together the rest of the mindscape had better watch out lmao
