. . We all have experiences of throwing coins while travelling by trains & busses in to the sacred rivers, seas, water bodies & wish wells with some secret wish to make it come true.. I was fascinated by this act from my childhood, as i heard people say its an age old practice of offering to the gods connected to the sacred rivers and those days during our family vacation tours i used to pester my parents for coins changed ready to throw in such wish water bodies., but in later years i learnt from an eco conservationist that such thrown in coins has been a serious threat to the water ecosystem due to the nickel rusting and getting infused in to the water making it un-potable., that struck a lightning & with some research i found out the secret behind the belief - which was the material used in those days to mint coins - COPPER.!!! What an ingenious idea to link it to a relegious belief system which actually benefited the cleansing of large water bodies using Copper in coins, the concept was great but due to changes in material of coin minting that very same practice now become a threat to the ecosystem...Coming back to the point i later found out that the easiest water purification mechanism is to find one or two old copper coins clean them thoroughly and drop it in to the usual water jugs & use the water for a minimum of 4 hours, by this one can derive the benefits of copper in controlled quantities as needed by our body.. . Note: Copper coins can be found with Numismatic collectors buy one for a jug . .
