01. What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?

Get to know my character

((Meredith is generally traced to Welsh origins translating as "great lord" with some uncertainty about the accuracy of the translation. I just think it's a pretty though. :> And in story, so did her parents. No particular significance to them either.

Her middle name, Rose, is just the form derived from the flower. In story, she was named for her (great) aunt who her father was fairly close to. Out of character, it's a holdover from when I was creating her character in-game and needed to come up with a call sign/username for her. She ended up being AntiqueRose because it worked and I didn't feel like remaking her or paying to change it as I settled on more details about her. It slightly more specifically refers to antique or heirloom roses, as opposed to the more common modern tea roses - they tend to be a little more wild with less 'perfect' or constant blooms, but hardier and more fragrant.

Crowley is Irish origin and believed to come from the Gaelic Ó Cruadhlaoich meaning 'descendant of the hard hero.' There's also the association with (in)famous occultist Aleister Crowley, which is hard to ignore given the setting and themes we're working with. I'm... kind of a big wuss about doing enough research or trusting myself to understand the material and present it respectfully, especially when we're dealing with topics as fraught with complicated and messy strings as conspiracy theories and occultism/esotericism.

So, ah, mostly went with the 'creepy crawlies' pun route! :'D My Crowley's family doesn't have any immediate connections to anyone notable outside of 'they had money once; it's mostly gone now.'))

My husband and I drove to the Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, Texas last Saturday, which is a rose nursery well known by rose lover’s all over America, specializing in selling antique and historic roses. It was kind of a crazy idea to do that on a day where it is 101 F/38 C hot, but I was really going stir crazy and just needed to see something else other than our own house and garden. It was our first trip since the lockdown (the nursery is two hours away from us one way) and despite the scorching heat we enjoyed our trip so much. It was a wonderful drive through the Texas countryside and the display gardens of the nursery were fabulous. There were not too many roses in bloom though, which doesn’t come as a surprise considering the recent high temperatures but nonetheless we enjoyed touring the eight acres of display gardens. They have some beautiful old restored buildings on the grounds, one is the rustic cottage that you see on my photo. The whole property has a really beautiful Texas country vibe and is lovingly maintained. The rose nursery was well stocked, the roses that they sell were in good condition (five came home with me!), and the staff was friendly. I can thoroughly recommend a visit of this nursery if you live close by. I am curious, what did you do last weekend to keep yourself entertained? Whatever you did, I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
