Selecting one of my #ancestral #ballgowns to wear to @vamuseum this evening to witness @diorunofficial #designerofdreams #fashioninmotion my imagination takes me back to the convent in which I grew up & the magnificent nonagenarian #Flemish #nuns who wafted about in #chic habits designed by Christian Dior in the 1960s. These Remarkable #eccentric #subversivewomen taught me the importance of #glamour & #fashionart as a means to express ideas - born in the 1860s 70s and 80s they’d endured two world wars & seen the very worst #inhumanity - Christian Dior was the #poet of the postwar fashion - his #newlook reminded the world of glamour & each of my mothers #ballgowns & #tiaras are imbued with the the memories of the opulence & magic of all the stately pleasure palaces these gowns have misbehaved in over the past 70 years - ⚜️As my godfather #quintencrisp said “you owe it to your #biographer to make your life interesting” I would add “you owe it to every occasion to look majestic,” for #history will not #celebrate the modern day #Puritan #uniform of #factorymade #suits #frocks #jeans & #trainers for the environment cries out like our souls for #fashionasart & #sustainablefashion which relies on eschewing #offtherack #highstreetfashion for #handstiched #handmedowns #ancestral #sartorial works of art @johndavidgusman (at Mayfair) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtoOu2OAAji/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ivjtzfan765w

My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw the Junon dress at the V&A’s Inside Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition. Designed by Christian Dior himself for the Fall 1949/50 collection, it is one of the house’s most recognised and exquisite gowns. The skirt of ombréed petals draws inspiration from the peacock - the sacred animal of the dress’s namesake 🦚💚💙💜🦚
