Does anyone have tips for antiquing? Specifically for porcelain dolls I’m trying to expand my collection however I also want to expand my key collection. After a long period of inactivity (oops) I’m starting to post on here again! The reason? Holy shit, y’all, there’s so few antique doll blogs out there.

I should probably mention, first off, that my knowledge of antique dolls is, at this point, very limited. And my collection is limited, too—I have a few dolls from the sixties, but only one older than that—this beautiful girl! I found her for $5 at a thrift shop, and I know nothing about antique doll pricing, but she’s definitely a steal.

She’s a Shirley Temple look-alike doll, likely from the 30s-mid40s, of unknown manufacture. She’s made entirely of composition, has a wonderful mohair wig with the original factory pins still in (!), and sleepy eyes which function perfectly (a shocker to me—I’m more used to American Girl doll sleepy eyes which often start acting wonky just a decade or so after manufacture. This girl is 90ish years old and her eyes work better than most of my AG dolls).

The dress is not remotely original, but it’s in a similar enough style to one of Shirley Temple’s dresses that I’ll keep it on her for now.

She’s currently sitting in my bedroom beside my other, much more modern, dolls. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for more antique dolls from now on, and hopefully find her some friends. If I do, I’ll try to remember to post about them too, so that the pitifully small #antiquedoll tag on here can be expanded a bit more (:
