『三國寮の人形たち』

著者の三國万里子さんは、著名なニットデザイナーです。

私が編み物を始める前から、とてもかわいい、ヴィンテージの香りのするニットをデザインする方、と存じ上げておりました。

この『三國寮の人形たち』は、そんな三國さんがコレクションしているアンティークのドールたちと、彼女がドールたちのために作ったニットとお洋服が堪能できる絵本のような写真集です。

私はというと、ドールのためにお洋服を作ることに一度挑戦し、今はお休み中だったのですが、三國さんの本を読んで俄然やる気が出てまいりました。

巷には、「綺麗で、ピシッとした」ドールの服の本ばかりあるので、気後れしていたのですが、三國さんの作るドール服は、手縫いあり、古着、端切れの継ぎ接ぎあり、ご自身のセーターを解体してドール用に作り直したり・・・。

もちろん素晴らしいテクニックをお持ちとは思うのですが、それ以上にセンスがきらりと光る、ゆるい、きちっとしすぎていないものばかりで、私のやる気もまた復活の兆しです。

あ〜、何だっていいんだ〜っと思うことから、クリエーションが本格始動するのであります。

”The Dolls of Mikuni Dormitory”

The author, Mariko Mikuni, is a well-known knit designer.

Even before I started knitting, I knew her as a designer of very cute, vintage-like knitwear.

This book, “Mikuni Ryo's Dolls,” is like a picture book in which you can enjoy Ms. Mikuni's collection of antique dolls and the knitwear and clothes she made for them.

I had tried making clothes for my dolls once and was taking a break, but after reading Ms. Mikuni's book, I was suddenly motivated to try again.

I was a bit nervous because there are so many books on doll clothes that are “beautiful and too neat” but Ms. Mikuni's doll clothes are made by hand-sewing, piecing together scraps of old clothes, taking apart her own sweaters and remaking them for dolls….

Of course, she has a wonderful technique, but more than that, her sense of style shines through, and all of them are not too neat.

Creation begins in earnest when you think, “Oh, anything will do!"
