I've been thinking about this for a while, but something I've really come to appreciate about the World of Darkness as a setting is something that might be a little counterintuitive?
WoD is a dark and gloomy place. It's our world, but darker, more sinister and in a lot of ways, outright worse, in some more convenient. But despite this, despite the doom and gloom hanging over the world, whether it's vampires believing that Gehenna is nigh and the Antideluvians will soon wake from their slumber and devour the world whole, or werewolves locked in a war against devastation of the world (and the entire universe really), or mages... life just goes on.
Sure, for most people, life goes on, because they're blissfully unaware of what is happening backstage. Even if they did, what could a mortal do, faced with vampires as old as the calendar they use, or an agent of balance driven mad and bent on destroying everything? (Admittedly, Hunter shows that yes, mortals can make a difference). But more importantly, despite it all, there's hope.
There's these little specks of light in the dark, those people, whether Kindred, Garou, Changeling, Mage or mortal that try to build their own little slice of paradise amidst the storm. And that's why I love it so much.
The world may be a dark place, full of horror and uncertainty, but even amidst those, light and hope will find a way. However brief or enduring that proves to be.

Since it's been a while since I asked about her, but when am I not thinking about her, for Daphne, please?
"Stirling has a crush on you"
"David Stirling has a crush on you."
Daphne looked at Dudley Wrangell-Clarke over the edge of her cocktail glass, thoroughly surprised by the idea. They were standing on the terrace at the Embassy, with the evening around them only just starting to get cool. "I wasn't aware Captain Stirling knew who I was," she said, trying to cover for the stunned silence that had followed the comment. (Dudley was forever doing things like that - trying to catch people out, just to see what they would do. She was ashamed to admit that this time she'd been caught.) "What makes you say that?"
Clarke beamed. "When your name was mentioned he abruptly changed the subject and started talking about the weather. Rather predictable like that."
Daphne could defend an entire viva on the subject of the predictability of Army Officers, and she wasn't about to contradict the observation from Clarke, but other intelligence pointed in different directions. "Someone told me he was already attached," she offered, gently stirring the remains of the ice in her glass. What was Clarke's game here?
"That's hardly going to stop him from noticing anyone else. As a general rule he likes impossible things, and you're impossible to get. An antideluvian byproduct of his public schooling - endlessly suffering after things he can't have." The intelligence officer leaned in close, his smile still rife with mischief. "You're also rather more free of difficulties than the attachment, Miss Markham-Reed. Perhaps he's thinking of trading up."
Daphne thought of the woman in red she'd seen with Stirling at the Empire Club - Eve Mansour. I'm not likely to cross her over a man - I think I'd lose.

I'm going to rank my favourite 5E clans and explain why under this cut
1. Tzimisce
Simply excellent all around. Interesting powers, interesting clan history, fun social-political dynamics to explore and a debilitating enough clan bane to come up with ways it might affect a person psychologically over time. A lot of my tzimisce characters explore the idea of "home" and belonging as well as the horrifying nature of having your brain rot from the inside not just from the beast but from even more innocuous toxic thought patterns like claiming ownership of friends. It must be so challenging to be a tzimisce and remain human, which is wonderful for storytelling and character studies. My only regret with this clan as a DM is that I'm committed to them seeming rare in my setting so there aren't many characters I can write.
2. Ventrue
They are, imo, the funniest clan. All I need to do is show you LaCroix and you understand. Though I can understand also why people think they are annoying for the reasons I find them hilarious. Let me pitch you this: my beloved Ventrue OC, Thomas, is a loser tech bro boyfailure who is entitled to everything and is regularly punished. He was sired illegally, swept under the rug and forced to associate with anarchs cuz no one else will take him. I never understood the beauty of misfortune comedy before I was introduced to Ventrue. It's all about the narrative framing.
3. Lasombra
Similar to Ventrue (obviously) but they have sexy evil Eldritch darkness powers. What's not to love. I recently read through the clanbook in its entirety with my partner and the way they are all so comically villain-like in how they conduct clan business it rivals the Tremere clan. I love their drama and their aesthetic. Their only ding is that you have to ignore a lot of awkwardly handled racism (to show how evil they are!) from the canon leader characters. I'll have to read Chicago by night soon and hope it handles it fine.
4. Nosferatu
You can't go wrong with a bunch of fucked up looking monster dudes. Nosferatu get a ton of points for how creative you can be with their character design, similar to tzimisce. I also really love how they are probably among the least-toxic clans to be a part of, so it's just as easy to write wholesome character dynamics as it is to write messed up ones. As a DM, they are also great utility characters that can write you out of a lot of corners. Need information? They literally just collect it for fun and profit. It's free world building and plot hook real estate.
5. Malkavian
Now listen... I know Malkavians have the obvious drawback of being frequently portrayed as mean-spirited caricatures of mentally ill people. However... If you are mentally ill yourself, writing one that is a respectful exploration of your struggles is really cathartic. Beyond that, though, my favorite part of the Malkavian experience is the cosmic horror element. I love how their antideluvian is some unknowable incorporeal being that connects all of them. I love unknowable mind breaking horror! And I love their utility as well. If your player is a Malkavian attuned to the cobweb, you can just speak to them as the Storyteller for free basically. It's great fun.
6. Tremere
Wizards.
...
Clan lore is good too. The rigid structure of the clan is good for making a world with a Chantry nearby feel larger and more powerful. Also I guess it's pretty fun that they can do real magic.
7. Toreador
They're kinda mid to me. I don't dislike them but a lot of what makes them unique in WOD is just normal typical vampire fluff in other media. They're seductive, romantic, artistic, yeah whatever. These things gotta be subverted or executed flawlessly for me to be invested so Toreador neither wins nor loses. It doesn't help that their 2/3 of their 5E disciplines are ones I find kinda boring in practice (Celerity, Auspex).
8. Hecata
Carried almost entirely by how funny I find the Giovanni clan, stands low-mid tier Hecata clan. It's sad how much this clan/clans got butchered in 5E. It suffers most clearly from WOD's desire to not "retcon" things in Vampire. Clan lore is non-existent because they tried to just mash a bunch of clans together and pretend like it makes sense and created what sounds like the most boring traits of all of them to be the default. Points for potential, and the ability to carry on playing as if you are simply one of the original clans that made up this one.
9. Gangrel
Even though by all means I should be into Gangrel, they still end up being kinda mid for me. They fulfill a similar niche that either Tzimisce, Nosferatu or actual werewolves could fill just as easily. There's nothing wrong with them, the things I see in them are just done better by other clans in my opinion. They become forgettable to me and I'm gonna have to will myself to make some more cuz it would make sense for my home game!
10. The Ministry
I think they could be very interesting. I think it's silly and goofy that one of their clan traits is "wants to make you evil", that's good for comedy. And the vibe they have is good. I love a good cult, I love snakes... But I don't know if I find the whole Followers of Set thing to be compelling unless I missed some lore about how Set has adapted in the modern world. Maybe it could be cool if Set was the Wyrm or whatever. The Ministry is good for plot devices but I don't know how interesting they are as characters otherwise.
11. Brujah
I admit I'm biased on this one. I think it's kinda sad that in "modern" day, the time period most vtm games are run, Brujah are just stock angry countercultural guys. They're set up to be protagonists of a story against corrupt leaders and...nothing else. The clan doesn't give you much to work with. Strong fast and sexy guys with their three disciplines and basically zero clan structure (I miss VTM Redemption philosopher Brujah) does aesthetic). Every good Brujah character is good because of their writing and gets no shortcuts from being Brujah.
12. Ravnos
The last two clans get like. Negative points for the racism baggage they were born with all the way back in the earlier editions. I think Ravnos has a bit more interesting clan lore (what with their antediluvian wiping them out in recent-ish canon memory) but it takes a lot of conscious effort to make a character that isn't an uncomfortable appropriation of nomadic culture stereotypes.
13. Banu Haqim
It's difficult to ignore how their clan bane used to be THAT... And the whole fact that their clan lore, to this day in 5E continues to struggle to untangle itself from islamic extremist stereotyping. Saying "oh the extremists are just the evil faction of this clan now!" doesn't really cut the level of how bad and uncomfortable and disrespectful this clan was. I am not equipped to write a character of this clan that does not exist entirely separate from its lore. You get no favors from Banu Haqim.
My thoughts on caitiff and thin bloods are separate, and I can't really put them on a numbered list due to how they feel like separate entities entirely in vampire. Might make a separate post?
Thanks for reading! Remember all the above content is just my opinion and I am a DM who makes ocs, I haven't actually been a player in this game as of me writing this. I'm sure it shows lol

Wasn't the one who birthed us all Caine

theres like 13 salubri and they all diablre each other rather than sire new generations. also i thought tremere diablarized the tzimcse. or is salburi an offshoot of them......
According to the wiki the original tremere guy diablerized the salubri antideluvian so that the tremere would also have an antideluvian. Dude just didn't wanna feel left out 😔 it's also apparently why the tremere were considered untrustworthy from the start. They also had a war with the tzimisce early in their history tho, but the wiki doesn't say if there was diablerie there

ITS A BIG ONE 💥, 🌙, 🕷️, 🙉, 🎁, 💘, 💗, ❤️, 💙, 💖
For both Olivia and Sonia!
Here we go! Double serving of hot vampire facts!
💥 Olivia: Helpless. If there's one thing Olivia hates, it's being unable to do anything when she thinks she should or considers it her responsibility. When it happens, she usually falls back on anger to mask it.
Sonia: She can't really stand condescension. She understands that sometimes she has to defer to those above her in the hierarchy, but the moment someone flaunts their position over her, she becomes prone to start plotting to show them just how poor of a decision that was.
🌙 Olivia: To have a family. She has that now (in some ways, she got more than she asked for) and can cross it off the list. And yes, she is willing to kill to protect that family.
Sonia: Having her restaurants gain global recognition. National fame just isn't enough when it comes to her cooking and she's not above playing dirty, usually by discrediting her competition.
🕷️ Olivia: Her biggest fear is being left entirely alone, with no one to care about her. Growing up an orphan, she desperately wanted someone to give a damn, and while it's not AS overt anymore, she still very much does. She doesn't really have mundane fears, but the more she learns of her clan's antideluvian, the more she fears being subsumed by him.
Sonia: Sonia does not fear, she is the one others fear. Why be afraid, when she's arguably the scariest person in the (dimly lit) room? The one fear she had (though she'd never admit it) is her sire, whom she diablerised) slowly driving her insane and manipulating her from beyond the grave.
🙉 Olivia: HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE DARK MOTHER?! Thanks to her wife, Olivia is a devout Bahari and she is not particularly shy about her faith, or about sharing her faith with people who're willing to listen.
Sonia: She will happily talk your ear off about Italian cooking. You will listen, that is non-negotiable, the door is already locked and your shadow gave her the key.
🎁 Olivia: She's not used to getting presents at all, so just the fact that someone would give her one is usually enough to make her emotional. Still, she's usually fairly practical, and appreciates gifts she can make use of. As for giving gifts, she's generally the kind of person to ask what someone would want, rather than try to guess.
Sonia: Presents are mostly a way to gain favor to her. Sonia's painfully practical, though most of the gifts she gives are ceremonial. She'd be happy to receive a gift with some tangible meaning behind it, like something symbolizing a guarantee of support.
💘 Olivia: She wouldn't admit to it, but she does believe in love at first sight. As for desirable traits, she values people who are willing to compromise for the sake of their partner and treating her as an equal.
Sonia: She doesn't. She frankly finds it difficult on most nights to NOT see love as transactional, or in terms of alliance. Her ideal partner would further and protect her interests first.
💗 Olivia: It usually takes a little bit for her to admit she's interested in someone, but once it happens, she tries (and fails) to give subtle hints that she's interested. She also tends to lower her guard around her crushes. It happened with her wife, Harmony and a bit more explosively with her boyfriend, Elliot (on account of him being mortal.)
Sonia: She keeps her attraction close to the chest and doesn't really let it show, unless she sees signs of mutual interest. She tends to keep an air of decorum about it. She's of an older date, so she prefers to wait for the other party to come forward first.
❤️ Olivia: She becomes very caring and protective of her love interests. She's not really a selfish lover, but she's definitely quick to become overprotective.
Sonia: Support in her partner's endeavours, be they political or personal. Need to bend the ear of someone important? She'll call in favors so you get their time. Someone causing you problems? She'll remove them.
💙 Olivia: Dear god, does she. She becomes much less animated without her wife being around. They see each other pretty much every day, but when they don't, it's fairly obvious she's missing something. Running away from Harmony following the death of her sire took a serious toll on Olivia, doubly so when it was entirely her own fault, and she never really forgiven herself for it.
Sonia: She's not really prone to missing people. To Sonia, people come and go as they fall in and out of favor, and to a degree, this pragmatism also applies to love. Still, if she becomes fond of someone, she'll gladly reminisce about them, but their absence doesn't really affect them in a perceivable manner.
💖 Olivia: A bit of both? She's not above public displays of affection and frankly, shortly after she and Harmony started dating she practically flaunted their relationship in Elysium. She's a little more reserved with Elliot, but mostly because they also work together and she doesn't want their relationship to disrupt their work.
Sonia: She's definitely a subtle lover. It's less about grand displays and more about the little things to let her love know she approciates her. That can get a little difficult when you go for over 50 years without seeing each other, but she hopes these little comforts make up for it.

Nah sonic final boss music got me feeling like super sonic/team super sonic and super shadow could beat the shit out of the affini
I mean da faq they gunna do against chaos control, both sonic and shadow can do it (see sonic 06) and sonic already killed a fucking giant spaceship oh AND A BEING WHO LITERALLY EATED TIME and Sonic Robot Cthulu God (metal overlord)
Oh i almost forgot: chaos god too (Perfect Chaos) speaking of all of those bosses cpuld probably defeat the affini too (except maybe The End) i mean Neo Metal: shapeshift to hide as an affini, then Assimilate their ship into your form as metal overlord, Time Eater Eated time, need i say more (and is also mostly clockwork and phantasm so theres not really programming to corrupt) and giant Antideluvian Chaos God who literally created the term 'antideluvian' and is made purely of water: unless they have a death star, they aint killing perfect Chaos
Im sorry Open yoyr heart got stuck in my head and it got me thinkin
No inwont tag this bc this was simply me being autistic and i will be heavily embarrassed if anyone actually finds and reads this, oh and no tags means not even "my post" tags
I swear if you read this far just kill me stg (this is a joke) but hey umm that means your in the less than 1% who like me ranting for no reason interesting so umm yeah, havent had that happen, mostly due to people irl not liking me too much and not having a way to deal with my depression, hey you know what since you did heres a secret: i tried to off myself once, i failed tho uhh and my brains favorite dissociation technique is being so hyperaware of the situation it hurts, ive only dissociated properly once and that was when i made popcorn and just wanted some for myself but mother wanted some and i was already depressed and i didnt wanna go througb the effort of using thebpopcorn machine so i wanted to make it on the stove but because mother said the stove popcorn was gross and i HAD to make it i had to use the popcorn machine and i just sorta... broke like everything went numb and i couldnt feel amd everything felt so distant the worst part was i had a "therapist" (doctors were saying i hate eating when that was a lie so they had me in this therapy to try to get me tl eat more or something but she, i dont think gave a shit bc she was apparently getting paid minimum wage) and when i told her abojt it, mind you last time i said ibwas read a philosophy book, i told her yeah the other day nothing felt real, and she responded with, ah you doing some more philosophy again nice, and yeah so fuck that uhh no one will ever read this lmfao soo yeah uhh cheers peoples in my head

23. More often than people would think. Andrata will drain ghouls who are fighting them. The highest mercy to a ghoul is death. However Andrata knows not to let hunger get the best of them. So, blood is blood.
30: :3 of course not...Tremere...Andrata would never...Tremere
40: To stop Caine and the Antideluvians from darken the sky with endless night. It's a work in progress. Gehenna is in full swing, now it is just stopping the world from falling into chaos.
