DBZ fandom still criticizes those who think of a relationship between the characters of Pan, Uub, Marron, Goten and Bra as if it had not canonized the greatest aberration known as Trunks x Mai

Aside from the obvious age gap weirdness, what else is wrong with trunks x mai?

Personally, I find Tr*M*i (at least in the present timeline) to have completely changed two characters to have completely changed two very beloved characters to make them work together

Mai isn't even close to who she was in OG DB and Trunks' character has been diluted to another fighter when in reality GT Trunks and even kid Trunks had an affinity with Tech and tinkering, all for the sake of what? Another "scientist/inventor x fighter" relationship?

There is still time, of course but it's upsetting to see it happen in real time.

Aside from the age gap and flanderization of these characters they feel very forced in my opinion, from the beginning we don't get any other angle aside from "this is Trunks' love interest now" I've always said Tr*M*i would have been much better shipping material had it been say Yamcha (or any other male) x Mai's daughter, and maybe this girl is part of a new pilaf gang. Their goal is still the same and maybe Trunks becomes interested in her because of how good she is with Tech — eliminates the weird age gap, keeps the gag relatively similar and you have a new character with no preconceived motions to develop a relationship with not just Trunks but Goten and Marron as well!

anyway thats my lengthy opinion on the ship without getting into more salt than its worth

I remember when Battle of Gods/Super came out and I was icked by the Mai x Trunks ship that got popular. People acted like I was in the wrong when she's literally older than his mother, even if she was turned into a child. If you have to justify why a ship is ok, then you really shouldn't be shipping it.

Unpopular opinion, I really hate The pilaf gang being kids and what they’re doing to Mai’s character.

I kinda don’t wanna see them as anything more then joke villains that never win.

Another thing idk if it’s just me or like, they’re making Mai more naggy around pilaf forgetting he’s the same dude who use to do…

Idk, I feel like they’re are already a lot of naggy females in the series that Mai ( original the stoic coward) being naggy doesn’t feel right.

And the entire romance between her and Trunks is just gross in my opinion, mai is shown to still remember things from Og dragon ball and the fact that she’s mentally older than Bulma, his mom makes it more yucky.

Also this one is just a me thing and not something I’m really not as upset about, I miss when Mai and Shu had this goofy friendship, like they were both scared of pilaf, so they just talked to each other a lot so naturally.

Look at them joking together about how they wish pilaf would treat them better, like that’s some FRIENDSHIP

I saw someone say Mai could have ended up with Yamcha and I felt that. Yamcha deserves happiness and they are in the same age range too. I feel like their personalities match and it would be cool to see more of him and even Tien and Launch.

Idk who trunks gf should be, or if he should have one. I'd love to see him grow up and maybe future!trunks ends up with her but current one finds a girl his actual age. I would have loved to see Goten, Marron and Trunks as a trio and maybe we could see Trunks and Marron.

Why Mai is unnecessary to both present and future timeline.

1) If you remove her character from Future Trunks arc, the story, plot and ending will remain the same. 

2) Leader of human resistence? Like she serve herself as henchman for everyone can remember and suddenly you're telling me she can lead an army? Funny thing is, even if you remove these resistence, it still doesnt give an impact to the story. This a war  between Zamasu and Trunks.

3) She didnt give any impact to Trunks development. Trunks is still Trunks, with or without Mai.

4) Dont get me started on her age and her appearance in the future timeline. Thats even messed up.

5) Now lets look at the present timeline. Does she serve any other purpose other than being Trunk's alleged "girlfriend" and freeloader at Capsule Corp? Again, she doesnt give any impact to Trunks character development.

6) In fact, his character is more progressive with Goten and Marron despite how short their moment is compare to the whole season with Mai.

7) She was cooler back in OG DB.

8) Funny how GT Mai serve more purpose than her Super counterpart.

Dragon Ball Super was a mistake. The ONLY exceptions are the queer rep, more POC characters, Ribrianne, and Android 17 returning. Trumai should've never existed in the first place. Goku was horribly written. The fandom got more chaotic with their takes due to Super. Get that middle aged woman away from our boy Trunks.

I don’t know if I have much to offer of value here...

shipping is tricky, because it’s extremely sentimental and personal, so people have a LOT of bias; me included, of course. I love my oc/canon ships more than anything on this earth, and I even think that they’re better than canon’s attempts -- at least in the context of DB. I won’t go on my anti-trumai crusade here because I think everyone in our immediate community agree that it’s.... fucking shit and even uncomfortable to some degree -- but that’s also partly my immense bias. 

I also think exploring shipping is important, because you can find different kinds of relationships for your characters that you never expected. this is why I’m a huge advocate for multi-shipping, not that there’s anything wrong with single-ship in the slightest. (I think single-ship is super sweet actually, and I’ve tried on many occasions to go by that rule, only to fail every time--) 

toxic ships are especially fun, within good reason (if my guilty pleasure ship wasn’t any indication AT ALL). I don’t know, maybe I’m just weak for the idea of the toxicity gradually and believably thinning into something sweeter and more comforting. --wish fulfillment, probably. depends on how they’re handled and written, though.
