Unfortunately the inherent flaw of any successful public health/harm reduction campaign is that after the issue is under control/eliminated then the campaign itself starts to seem stupid and unnecessary. Especially in retrospect by people who do not remember The Before.

I smugly approach a group of smokers and inform them that all cigarettes contain toxic carcinogens that lead to a myriad of health problems. I am promptly told to go the fuck away, which only serves to prove my point that these brainsick fools are hopelessly addicted to what they know is only bad for them. I make sure to do this every day in hopes I inspire someone to give up smoking. So far it's worked on no one, only demonstrating just how strong nicotine addiction is and how stupid smokers are for spending their money on bad habits.

Honestly, it can stand as it's own post. The tobacco industry is evil they want to get you smoking yadda yadda you've heard it a million times and like. I think we hear it so much but that a lot of the younger generations in the us dont really get why there's such an aggressive anti smoking campaign, I think people buy into the narrative South Park has spun about it "the cigarette companies are all upfront about it and people still chose their service and everyone against smoking are just obsessive fascists" and it's like. Genuinely, the cigarette companies are some of the most evil entities this world has ever seen. From knowing cigarettes caused cancer before anyone else and lying about it, to being the reason the majority of 50s television existed (shows like I Love Lucy existed to sell you cigarettes) to specifically making flavors of cigarettes and cartoon mascots to sell to kids. And I'm not saying that if you smoke cigarettes you're bad but I do really want the tobacco industry abolished and have it's wealth distributed to the society it controlled for so fucking long.
Seriously, go read about it. They did shit that manipulated the country, politics, and the lives of your parents and their parents, and likely their influence is affecting your life in this day and age still.

There’s no better anti drug campaign then having addicts and former addicts in your family. My uncle needed a liver transplant from having hepatitis when he was younger before disposable needles were a thing and years of drug use. One of my aunts is bipolar and use to self medicate in a very self destructive way. This isn’t mentioning all of the alcoholics.

DO ANTI-SMOKING AD CAMPAIGNS REALLY HELP?
Smoking is one of the few vices that people could not seem to let go. People claim that this tend to make them feel better, or that this is there way of relieving stress despite the harm that it could bring to their bodies. Smoking causes addiction to nicotine, and could even bring cancer towards an individuals’ body. As s solution, they are doing anti-smoking ad campaigns which I believe is helping.
The ( Center of Disease Control and Prevention, 2022) reports a dramatic decline among smokers in recent years. From 20.9% (almost 21 of every 100 adults) in 2005 to 15.5% (more than 15 of every 100 adults) in 2016, they note, "current smoking has decreased." And these numbers are compelling enough to convince us that anti-smoking initiatives are effective. Many people have benefited from active effort in this field in order to kick the habit and resume living a life free of problems linked to smoking.
Many people say that having these ads, specially on the cigarette pockets, are inefficient. They believe that all they accomplish is to frighten both smokers and non-smokers, and that only a small proportion of those who have this habit are successfully convinced to give it up. Is it truly worth the effort and money spent on them? I believe it is. Despite the small numbers dropping or quitting from smoking is still a step forward or an improvement.
We frequently overlook those who never started smoking while analyzing declining smoking rates because we focus solely on those who have quit. Ads that portray the reality of smoking and all the harmful effects it may have on the smoker's body are an effective strategy for getting people to reconsider smoking before they take their first puff.
Also, having these ads will help the parents guide their children and educate them regarding the harms of smoking. On top of that, it only causes them a lot of money spent on cigarettes. These campaign ads will help in reminding, and educating the future generations of what smoking can do to their bodies. Having smoker friends or family will show us the harms of smoking, thus we should be mindful of its effects.
Anti-smoking campaigners specifically target this segment of society with their efforts in order to protect the next generation from that. Given the declining prevalence of smokers, it does indeed work.
