I feel like the main 6 Avengers actually had really bad character development in Avengers Endgame because Clint didn’t really do anything, Bruce’s arc was skipped over, Natasha was killed off, Tony died even though it wasn’t necessary, Thor’s struggles where made into a joke and Steve left Bucky and all of his teammates to be with Peggy in past

A lot things that happened in Avengers Endgame felt more like character regressions instead of going forward

to celebrate 8 years since civil war release, let’s review all the ways tony stark was an absolute loser and actually the reason thanos won in infinity war:

created an omnicidal A.I. that the rest of the team warned him against creating

decided that the entire team needed to become government puppets because he felt guilty for creating said A.I. that, once again, NO ONE SUPPORTED HIM IN MAKING

(also the reason bucky was forced back into the fight bc tony caused sokovia and thus caused zemo’s need for revenge but i digress on that pt)

when members of the team who can’t disconnect from their abilities raised concerns about how the accords dehumanized them, he had them arrested or locked them in his tower

bribed (yes, bribed) a child into fighting on his side because he knew he was outmatched

instructed vision to shoot sam out of the sky and then shot sam point-blank when he avoided the blast that would’ve left him severely injured AND LANDED TO HELP THE PERSON IT HIT

wanda on the raft. this is its own point. he let her be restrained and collared like a fucking DOG as if he hadn’t already done enough damage in her life (killing her parents & brother)

proceeded to break the accords THAT HE HELPED WRITE to chase cap across the globe because he felt left out of the action

blamed a brainwashed pow for BEING FORCED to kill the starks AGAINST HIS WILL and proceeded to BLOW HIS ARM OFF and ATTEMPT TO KILL HIM DESPITE KNOWING THAT NONE OF IT WAS HIS CHOICE

mocked natasha’s trauma because she dared to disagree with his methods (he is, in fact, incapable of letting go of his ego for one goddamn second)

even after receiving an apology, refused to contact cap for three years despite KNOWING about the threat of thanos

Anyone who knows anything about Steve Rogers knows he’s the most stubborn person in the world (especially when it comes to people he cares about) so tbh I really can’t see a reality where he gets to vormir to return the soul stone and calmly accepts that his partner and closest friend of the last eleven years is dead and gone and moves on rather than getting there and doing something reckless and insane to try to get her back

Having been rewatching Avengers lately and I really hate the fact that Steve apologizing to Tony has been so constant that it actually became a pattern. He sends him a letter of apology at the end of Civil War, although he didn't actually do anything wrong, and in the beginning of IW Tony admits to Bruce that he still won't speak to Steve even after all these years. It's infuriating.

"I don't care, he killed my mom" - oh yeah? How many mothers and fathers have you killed? Did you forget that your missiles killed Wanda and Pietro's parents? You think that because you didn't do it in person you are excused? Winter Soldier at least had the courage to face his crimes. He remembered all his victims. You didn't even know yours. You never apologized to Wanda for what you did to her. You are responsible for deaths of both her parents and her brother, and what did you do? You imprisoned her in your home, traumatizing her even further by letting her think she is a monster to be feared. The first thing you did coming back from space in EG was yell at Steve for trying to give hope to his friends so they all won't go insane. You refused to help them in their hour of need. You took the shield from Steve, and he didn't even give you hard time for that. You basically ignored Natasha's sacrifice and death and made everything about you again. You, you, you, it was always about you, and Steve never said a word to you, never called you on your bullshit, although he should have.

You don't deserve Steve Rogers as your friend. You don't deserve Natasha, either. You never did.

And as a teenager, she had horrid hallucinations from Singed, and Silco died. And grew up in poverty instead to having fancy clothes and a safe roof under her head and filet mignon. The fact that MCU turned Natasha’s 616 ex husband into her FATHER FIGURE.

They could’ve used any other character or just changed the name for the love of god what the fuck was that.

it is so weird to rewatch phase 1 and have these canonically extremely skilled and competent women in every movie, but also still see the same old sexism applied to them.

like, natasha romanoff, who at this point went through the fucking red room and everything that's associated with leaving the red room, having a breakdown after running away from the hulk for a little bit. thats pretty much a morning workout for her. generally the way they still sexualized her in this movie and had her act in some scenes.

Why the hell was this scrapped?

That was a rhetorical question; I think it’s pretty obvious this line was cut because it calls out the absolute deification of Tony that the MCU loves to indulge in. While this series was allowed to show the trauma Wanda experienced at the hands of SI weaponry, actually letting her criticize God Tony himself would definitely have been about five steps too far for this studio.
