This is the reason I don’t ship Zaya. This part annoyed me because he should not have kissed her right after her bf died? That’s not romantic.

She needed time, and she didn’t owe him a relationship. His jealousy over her dating Miles bugged me because it felt possessive.

And then he cheated on her and blamed her. I really liked them as friends, and didn’t like how Zig acted when he was convinced Maya needed to be with him.

However, I love Maya and want her to be happy. And I have to admit that they were adorable in the last season of next class:

Zig overall sucked even with Tori how he dismissed Tori's feelings when trying to break Maya and Cam up too

Hi! Since you ship Camaya, Zaya and Matlingsworth: how would you rank those three ships from your favorite to least favorite, and name one thing that you do and don’t like about each of those ships :)

So Zaya is one of my current hyperfixations and I just really love them.

Pros: their chemistry, their development, how Zig loved the fuck out of Maya, the way Zig would cheer Maya up, how Maya always has him as her hype man, and they just give power couple energy.

Cons: Zig going after Maya while she was with Cam and Miles is so icky to me. Also the cheating arc was so dumb and Zig blaming it on Maya was even dumber. Don’t even get me started on his reaction after Maya was rightfully angry at him for not wanting to be friends after he cheated on her and lied for weeks. Also I don’t like the scene where he says he should’ve kissed her while she was still grieving Cam.

Matlingsworth is also a ship I really love together and I lowkey wish they worked things out, but I’m glad Zaya is endgame.

Pros: I also liked their chemistry, they’re very cute, and they’re both very happy. I’m also really into how they started. Reminds me of Jarley and Brochel, two other ships I also love. And I feel Maya was the first person who made Miles want to be better, and the first person he loved. Like genuinely was in love with.

Cons: Him planting drugs in Zig’s locker to frame him and his reaction when Maya was rightfully angry. I hate comparing him to Peter because I actually think Miles is a good guy while Peter is scum, but it does parallel with early s6 in some ways. I get that he wanted to keep Maya safe, but this was not the way to go about it.

Camaya was also just so pure and adorable and they break my heart.

Pros: They were absolutely adorable and genuinely loved one another (in a puppy love way maybe but still). I also like Dylan and Olivia’s chemistry.

Cons: Cam dying 💔😭

I’m laughing because ppl who were anti Matlingsworth (and mostly pro Zaya and triles) used to say: “ miles almost cheated on her I mean he almost kissed Zoe when they were both drunk1111!1!1” but when Zig did cheat on Maya they were like :“well it’s not that bad they can still be together….” and now Miles cheated on Tristan with Lola… 👍🏼

This is so dumb lol but I was taking a Buzzfeed quiz to pick a name for every letter of the alphabet and seeing the names Maya and Miles that close together made me cringe. Yes even after all these years 😂😂

I will always believe that Miles loved the shit out of Maya. Eventually, he went on to love Tristan(only in their second relationship, that is) and I’m quite positive he’s been over Maya for a long time; however, when they were active, there’s no denying that he fought and tried so hard to her. She was just as much his first choice as she was for Zig but for more SINCERE reasons. But now that their class has graduated, the two quotes that have brought me to disown them as OTP is when Miles said “Until she broke my heart” and then Maya brings up the drunken Zoe Rivas striptease. 

That says to me one thing and I’m not afraid to admit that I was wrong and where I’d say fans of Triles/Zaya were absolutely right, Maya clearly didn’t love Miles the same. Cared for him? Definitely. Love, no. But where I will always DISAGREE is that he was horrible for her or that HE didn’t really love HER; that’s a damn lie and the writers, fans, Anti’s, Zig and Tristan all knew that shit too. I still believe he would have given her the world and loved her the way she deserves to be loved if she let him. 

And this is why I’m glad each half of every ship mentioned here graduated single and have the chance to work on their self-esteem before they commit to somebody else, especially Maya. Her suppressed depression(that surfaced in an almost fatal way in her senior year) and the way you can tell she blames herself for not being able to save Cam has fucked up her sense of self-worth so awfully. It’s psychological. She felt BAD,, very bad, and it explains why Zig and Tristan, her respective lover and friend, were able to treat her so awfully and she would readily accept the blame they’ve thrown at her for why their lives were so miserable and why they are just as lacking in a sense of worth as she is, in fact, even worse than her. 

It explains why Maya was so comfortable screaming on Grace for not immediately telling her about Zig and Zoe, in spite of the fact that Grace was ALWAYS there to support her and Zig, the most meaningful being when she prevented Zig from raping her by educating him on consent. Plus the fact, that Grace too was hurt in her own right feeling betrayed by two close friends hooking up....one she secretly had feelings for(Zig) and one who was deeply in love/infatuated with her(Zoe). Still, Maya chewed Grace a second asshole over that shit.

Yet Tristan can blame her from ruining his life by her preventing him from being abused by a predator like Grant Yates and be angry with her because Miles(at the time) was still in love her with while dating him, even though, by Tristan’s OWN admission, she didn’t even feel the same about Miles. He took that out on her when he only had himself and Miles to blame....but Maya passively took every bit of the blame and was so full of apologies. 

That explains why DRUNK Miles ALMOST hooking up with DRUNK Zoe was enough to end it but was still to some extent open to Zig(even if she did leave him) all the way up until graduation in spite of the fact that SOBER Zig actually DID hook up with SOBER Zoe. It’s clear who she loved more but it was just never healthy. And their little jokes about their break-up(based on the GIFS I’ve seen from the finale) is the straw that broke the camel’s back and what made me take back everything I felt about Matlingsworth. Ya’ll were right, they were Matlings-SHIT, I’ve finally had that epiphany.....but not for the reasons most believed. Miles deserved better than that. But I’ll stop there, because this post is about Maya, not him.

When you compare Maya’s response to Miles/Grace versus Zig/Tristan, it’s clear that she is unappreciative of a GOOD thing, even when they fuck up. It’s easy for her to put her foot down when she KNOWS the person in question is GENUINE; however, when it comes to standing up to the ones that flat-out abuse her(not physically), she lacks the confidence to stand up for herself. But I can’t be upset with her, because with her mindset, she simply COULDN’T be. She’s human and she’s young. Ain’t nobody perfect. She was tremendously messed up and felt unworthy. It’s so true to life as frustrating as it is to see. But what’s done is done and all Maya has to do is believe in herself, believe in her worth and live the happy life of love, success and appreciation that she’s always deserved. In spite of her flaws, she’s a beautiful person and EVERYONE who’s known her saw that in her, whether they resented her for it or loved her for it. Either way, everyone knew Maya was amazing....it’s high time that SHE knows that shit for herself. Simple as that.

I will say that this entire class had self-esteem issues except they all expressed it differently. I appreciate the realism from the writers in that aspect and that explains why this particular group evoked more emotions from me than any class that preceded them. Good luck to all of them in the future; yes, even Tristan and Zig. I’m glad eveyone’s individually happy and no longer need to look to each other for something they can only give to themselves. And that’s self-worth. 

Let this be a lesson, people, and I’m no exception.

Why do you hate eclare and matlingsworth but ship Zaya? that is just as toxic as the other two if not more.

Seriously? I feel like I shouldn’t even dignify this with a response. If you really want to know why I think Eclare and Matlingsworth are so toxic, go through my blog. You had the time to send me hate, so you must have more than enough time to check my anti tags. I feel like Cam would of approved Maya being with Miles rather than Zig. Zig pushed his buttons on purpose and said things to Cam that weren't true, calling him a psycho and how sad it is Maya has to deal with him. I also feel like it was a disgrace of a memory on Cam that Zig and Maya got together. I know they liked each other before Cam even came on the show but it got really messy later. Maya and Miles would of worked out if they had a second chance. If Cam never passed away, I feel like Camaya would of been end game.

Triles/Mitlingsworth mess

You know at the end of the day I really don’t care what happens to Triles. If they break up they break up. If they stay together they stay together. If it’s endgame it endgame. If they break up give Tristan a plot line that isn’t propping someone else up or him “trying to find love.” If they break up give Miles someone new Boy/Girl I don’t care just please don’t force Tristan into another needless relationship. Don’t force Miles into another stale old relationship that done and over with. Give him someone new or no one at all. 

This is where I stand on this war and this mess. I am very much anti mitlingsworth and therefor I do like Triles better but don’t take that as me in full support because like all degrassi relationships that too is fucked up to a degree. thank you for listening and now I can put this past me. 

I am putting my faith in degrassi so hopefully it won’t die out like all representation also can we all agree for now that Zosha is the new best girls and otp

Am I the only one that over the whole Triles is so toxic while Maltingsworths is so pure. Like I understand triles has its toxic moments but so does Maltingsworths.

I actually consider myself to be extremely Pro-Triles and Anti-Matlingsworth. Triles is by no means perfect, and both Tristan and Miles have made mistakes. But both are happy when they’re with each other.

Matlingsworth were severely unhappy together. Miles scared Maya. Maya didn’t understand Miles. Miles was so jealous of Zig that he threatened him (with a fake gun, but the severity of the situation was still there). When Miles was being verbally abused by his father, Maya inferred that she believed it was his fault. Tristan, on the other hand, listened to Miles and gave him his support. Sure, Maya redeemed herself in season 14, but she only understood the severity of the situation when the abuse became physical. I have my problems with this, because verbal abuse is just as serious as physical. Their break-up in court was borderline violent, Miles grabbing Maya and yelling. She was hitting him. The jealousy, the shouting, the hitting, and the emotional extremes of their relationship pointed towards border-lining on abusive.

Yes, Triles have had their quarrels, and Miles was a massive dick at the first go in their relationship. He was mean, and he said some nasty things. I wish he’d explained to Tristan what was going on in his family life, but we never got the chance to see that on screen. The two grew up though, and they now have an understanding of each other. They weren’t good for each other in the past, but they are now. Tristan is concerned for Miles’s mental health, as he asked him about his triggers. The two are happy and loving, and that’s because they decided to continue to understand and grow as people together.

Maya and Miles have fallen apart. They are no longer friends, and they didn’t get the chance to grow and understand each other in a healthier environment unlike Triles have. I believe that both relationships were quite toxic in the past, but I can say with certainty that Triles has progressed into a very healthy and happy couple. Matlingsworth didn’t get that chance, so they’ll forever remain toxic and abusive in my eyes.
