Why Ichigo And Rukia Ended Up With The Right People

In Bleach, Ichigo ends up with Orihime, Rukia is with Renji. Since it's part of the shonen genre, it doesn't center around romance and would be unlikely to focus on romantic relationships, as there were other interesting and exciting things happening.

The Problem With Ichigo X Rukia

Even though he becomes a Shinigami, he isn't technically a soul. He was not born in Soul Society and never died to go there. If he wanted to be with Rukia, he would either have to wait and die from old age or die right away and part with everyone else way too soon. Rukia is a soul who ages extremely slowly and will probably never die. Their families are in different worlds, so their priorities are incompatible.

This might be the single biggest factor in Orihime's favor against Rukia: she won't outlive Ichigo by hundreds of years. After all, Ichigo is a substitute Soul Reaper, but not a full-fledged one. It was only ever touched on vaguely because the shinigami are all spirits/souls, and things like time and age aren't something that hold much meaning to them anymore. Roughly in the beginnings of the series, Rukia mentions that she's 10 times older than Ichigo (who was 15 at the time).

Ichigo also looks like Kaien Shiba, Rukia’s mentor and the man that she admired. Due to this, even Byakuya himself understood why Rukia would feel a connection for Ichigo. Rukia realized the parallels between Kaien’s last fight with Ichigo’s battle against Grand Fisher, the Hollow that had killed Masaki Kurosaki. As such, she views them as similar and so would be unlikely to have romantic feelings for someone resembling her late mentor. In fact, she keeps comparing Kaien and Ichigo throughout the Soul Society arc.

Rukia and Renji

Rukia and Renji grew up together as orphaned Soul children in Soul Society. They shared the same experiences, jointly discovering the gift of Reiatsu that earned them a place in the Shin’o Academy. Their mutual goal was to become Shinigami, gain higher ranks, and grow stronger. When Rukia tells Renji the Kuchiki clan wants to adopt her, he acts happy but is deeply upset because he predicts they will grow apart. Still, he tries to hide his sadness because Rukia finally has a family. Unfortunately, Renji falsely believes that he's not important to her anymore.

While this saddened Rukia, he only reacted in the way he believed was best for her, and that ended up making him feel guilty about her potential execution. Chapter 98 was devoted to how Renji considered Rukia an unattainable “star” that he, a “tramp,” could never reach. If he just wanted friendship, why did he feel he had to stay out of Rukia’s way? If she just wanted friendship, why did she expect him to protest? The answer is simple: Her adoption didn’t get in the way of friendship, but in the way of the “something more” that they wanted.

Renji's feelings towards her have always been apparent, as far back as when they were kids. As they originally met around several years ago in the Soul Society, they've been around each other for quite a while. One evening, the two of them were unsuccessfully attempting to catch fish when Renji finally managed to snare one. When he turned around, he saw the rest of his friends staring at Rukia longingly. As anyone with a crush themselves would do, Renji admonished his friends for looking at her with love-struck eyes.

Renji's feelings for Rukia are crystal clear, even when he doesn't acknowledge them. On the other hand, Rukia finds it difficult to express her emotions, especially after joining the Kuchiki clan and her stranied relationship with her brother Byakuya. However, there are several instances that prove her love for Renji beyond the shadow of a doubt. In fact, Rukia obviously cares for Renji even after he attacks Ichigo in the Agent of the Shinigami arc. Although Ichigo and Rukia also love each other, their friendship is considerably less intense than her lifelong attachment for Renji.

Ichigo and Orihime

Orihime’s crush on Ichigo was evident from the first few chapters. She even had trouble being articulate in front of him, although part of her character development was how she gained confidence in herself. As for him, he was ready to sacrifice his life for her from the very beginning, when he put himself between her and her brother Sora (who became a Hollow). He almost always singles her out, speaks up for her and he even defends her.

When the Espadas allow Orihime to say goodbye to one person before she is taken to Hueco Mundo, she picks Ichigo even though he's still unconscious from an earlier fight. She explains how she could have picked one of the others, but Ichigo was the person she needed to see one last time. Orihime says how there were so many things she wished she had gotten to do and how she would like to live five times to try multiple different things, but that she'd always fall in love with the same person... Ichigo.

Ichigo literally came back from death for Orihime during his fight with Ulquiorra, all because she pleaded him not to die. Orihime also places her body between Ichigo and Acidwire to protect Ichigo. Ichigo puts himself between Grimmjow’s Ceros and Orihime without hesitation. Orihime more than willingly goes to fight Yhwach alongside Ichigo, serving as the latter's defense. Even Ulquiorra, Grimmjow, and Nnoitora all mocked him for wanting to protect her and underlined how she was the motivation for him to fight more fiercely.

In the early chapters, Orihime knew that Kon wasn't the real Ichigo when he was running wild inside Ichigo's body and being his perverted self. He jumped into Ichigo's classroom, made a move on Orihime, and then kissed Tatsuki before being forced to flee. Orihime knew right away that wasn't the real Ichigo, forgiving him of actions that would have got him in hot water with any other girl. It's a testament to how much Orihime cared about him. That said, Ichigo would have never acted that way in the first place.

Ichigo & Rukia Contributed To Each Other’s Relationships

It's kinda interesting to note that both Rukia and Ichigo have worked to boost each other's relationships. Remember, Rukia was the one who dragged Ichigo to apologize to an injured Orihime. Rukia was the initial reason why Ichigo and Orihime came closer together and were more expressive of their desire to protect each other. At the same time, Ichigo was the catalyst for Rukia and Renji to become close again after decades of avoiding each other. Ichigo was not meant to interfere in their relationship as a third party, but to help them realize the complete range of their feelings for each other.

It wouldn't matter even if IchiHime hair colors were exactly the same, but the discussion around it is so stupid because Kubo was always consistent about it.

The BLEACH ending isn't bad because of the ships. It's bad because it's fucking bad. It's anticlimactic garbage haphazardly slapped on to conclude the series as fast as possible. It is genuinely more frustrating to me than it should be that genuine criticisms of this series are overshadowed by people bitching about the ship. We know IchiRuki's relationship was more interesting, get OVER it.

Kubo showed one of his most disgusting sides with his depiction of Giselle and how she treated Bambietta. Not only he once again sadistically abused his character, it’s like he enjoys to see them suffer, but he also showed that he is inherently transphobic. His image of trans woman demonstrates all possible stereotypes that tranphobes are constantly propagating. Giselle is shown as a sadistic pervert and rapist, who sneaks into all-girls company only to get closer to a victim. When Giselle gets control over the girl she wanted, she instantly turns into abusive sadist with obvious sexual undertones. Doesn’t this remind you exactly how transphobes are trying to portray trans women? What would a regular Bleach reader take from this story? That trans women are perverts who only pretend to be girls to sneak in girls company to deceive and lure their victims. That they are dangerous sadists and rapists, and girls need to stay away from them. This is how Kubo portrays his only trans character in manga. This depiction in itself is appalling and transphobic, and he also used Bambietta in his dirty narrative and made her suffer to demonstrate his transphobic shit even more graphically. They allow this crap in Japan but in the West Kubo's ass would have been canceled.

Orihime’s TYBW outfit is absolutely disrespectful to her character.

People are actively discussing if Orihime’s boob-revealing outfit gets censored or not. To my absolute bafflement, I see someone comment about how it’s better to censor it, since IR shippers will find a way to disrespect her character. I won’t even get in discourse about how being an IR shipper doesn’t equal to being Orihime-hater. I just want to discuss how the actual disrespect was done to Orihime by Kubo only, when he decided to use her as a fanservice in the most uncomfortable and unreasonable way ever.

First, the outfit wasn’t her choice. It was actually created by URAHARA who manipulated her into wearing the dress by convincing her Ichigo would like it.

Moreover, we are talking about an UNDERAGE and naïve girl here. I can’t stress enough the word MANIPULATED here. Urahara uses her as a way to satisfy his weird fetishes and plays a supposed “matchmaker”.

Moving on to the “Ichigo would like it” part. I don’t think it’s arguable that Ichigo is a PRUDE. He purposely ignores Orihime’s outfit, not saying anything and trying to be respectful, because he wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings. But again, Urahara comes into the scene asking about his opinion and Ichigo is left admitting that she is showing too much which results in Orihime being absolutely bothered with the way she looks.

This whole scene isn't funny, sexy or entertaining. It's just plain uncomfortable and a big FY to Orihime as a woman and a love interest.

There are just so many things wrong with THIS particular fanservice. Kubo Tite has once again reduced Inoue’s character to just big BOOBS, but people will complain that some fans don’t like her character. The author himself doesn’t respect her character enough and constantly underuses her, period.

The "Trap" trope.

A character in an anime is presented as female. With a girls name and she/her pronouns. then suddenly, as a "twist" it's revealed she's "actually a man," which tends to be revealed through someone going "she has a dick! She's a He!"

The entire nature of the trope implies that transgender women are men "pretending" to be women. Because they're not crossdressers or drag queens, the "trap" character is attempting to pass as female. Which, in pretty much all cases except like, Nagisa Shiota, is a trans character getting outed. And well, you know how Giselle and Yumichika's meeting went.

A female characters is "revealed" to be male as if it's some "interesting" twist. Kubo hasn't exactly been great with any sort of lgbt representation in general, Yumichika shows it. While Yumichika isn't hatecrimed or anything for being clearly queer (to the best of my memory) he just so coincidentally is always paired against another queercoded villain with the purpose of tearing them down. It shows Kubo's true colors.

Not to mention, despite Giselle being presented as female, she uses "Boku" for herself and Kubo called her a man. He is fully going all in on the trap trope and it's honestly gross. Do you expect anything better from a shounen anime? I wish I could expect better, but this is Japan.

The entire premise of her is built of a transphobic anime trope, and to top it all off, she's an abusive freak! Have you seen the arguments transphobes make against trans women? Claiming they're perverts, or evil, trying to groom your kids, all that... And there's Giselle, an amab character presenting female and referring to herself as female, so therefore she is a trans female, being portrayed as sexually abusive. Only furthering the stereotype that people push.

The way Giselle Gewelle is written is rooted in transphobia. To that I say fuck Kubo, this is just how shitty Shounen writers are, and as a transgender person I have a right to feel disgusted. I also have the right to acknowledge those faults yet still indulge in the content because I'm the one affected by that issue.

One thing I remembered is that Ginjo finding Tsukishima as a child and pretty much raising him to adulthood while remaining the same implies that Substitute Shinigami don't age the same way average humans do.

Fullbrings however do.

Tsukishima aged.

Ginjo stayed the same.

Even in the World of the Living, with a boring ass, mediocre, normal life, Ichigo was supposed to stop aging the same way humans do. His longevity grows exponentially.

None of his "friends" will live that long. They're just Fullbrings. Inoue will not live that long. She's just a Fullbring, remember? Nothing else was done with her character since gaining her powers, therefore we can assume that's all she is.

Ichigo will live for centuries...

Inoue will die of old age like a human does...

His powers would probably make it so that he wouldn't be able to stay in the World of the Living anyways...

But you know... Tite Kubo is a fucking genius... right?

Reminder that Orihime caught on to how pitiful these two were pretty fast, which ties into what I said here. Like, she'd not have to brutally beat them down to hurt them, and certainly not kill them, but some basic self defense would not be an unreasonable choice here.

Don’t get me wrong, she’s absolutely horrible, but that’s the point. She enters with a smile on her face– she and Menoly want to put Orihime in her place, to punish her for, uh, getting a uniform issued to her. For getting Aizen’s attention. For being different and noticeable.

But what actually sets Loly off isn’t all the stuff that brings her in here, it’s Orihime’s look at her after she’s kicked her around. It’s a hell of a look, too– when they first walked in, Orihime was clearly scared, but now…it’s almost indifferent? But not quite? It’s a neutral expression, but one that shows that Orihime is aware of what they’re doing to her. She just doesn’t have any desire for revenge– she doesn’t want to hurt Loly back, and wouldn’t be doing the same thing to Loly if the shoe was on the other foot.

And Loly can’t stand it! This is Hueco Mundo! The natural order of things here is the war of all against all, a ceaseless churn of conquest and backstabbing that Aizen has only encouraged since he took over! Who is this human to judge her for exercising her right of the stronger? She’ll teach her to do that, even if the lesson is fatal!

Librarian, that's one of the only few jobs I can actually see Ulquiorra not despising. Quiet, plenty of books, little people, no talking. He'd work late hours probably, since he prefers the night and there's less people.

Plain food, anything that simply get's protein and vitamins in his body. He would eventually find his way to work-out foods that simply just get you running for the day. The day he found out coffee everything changed for the dear bat Espada.

1. my name is moe ( she / her ) twenty-three. I'm new to the bleach fandom here on tumblr but I'm familiar with the dubbed anime with only pieces of the manga. This blog will consist of low to medium activity due to my ADHD.

2. Rangiku Matsumoto in my canon divergent portrayal is specifically biracial (white / japanese) on account of hair and eye color (strawberry blonde hair + blue eyes) and I'll be using an assortment of live action faceclaims : elizabeth olsen / ao yui etc.

3. In light of watching the first half of the thousand year blood war -- my rewrite will consist of making Matsumoto's role a major one to the plot towards how I feel about how things should've played out / happened differently. ( spoilers warning ).

4. I've been recently made aware of the shipping discourse within the bleach fandom and right off the bat, everyone needs to know this blog ships hitsumatsu ( toshiro x rangiku ) && that I honestly don't care what anyone ships as long as no one is being weird or "pro / anti" about shipping. That being said, I don't mind tagging "hitsumatsu" for blacklisting purposes

5. I'm a multi-shipping babe and I'm open to any and all. I personally headcanon Rangiku as bisexual. Rarepair wise my canon divergency may even include "ASH FEAR" -- a dynamic between Rangiku and As Nodt but I haven't fully decided on if it's romantic or platonic but it will definitely be antagonistic.

And I actually think it's entirely possible that Kubo intended for her to be a wholly unlikable character and just...failed to actually make her come off that way in the execution of how he wrote her. Such things have been known to happen, and it's another point against the writing for everything to do with Orihime's "arc" during this period.

obviously I've got no real affinity for Loly like I do Menoly. She was pretty firmly and intentionally made to be unlikable, even by villain standards. Still I had all the right pages on hand when picking out the Menoly panels, so it seemed natural to throw together a post for her too.
