“how could you like Galadriel with Celeborn he’s such a boring guy compared to her” you absolute buffoon you will not survive the winter. Celeborn being boring compared to his eldritch angel wife is the whole appeal. it’s elf Connecticut Clark x Malvina
you’re invited to dinner at casa Lothlorien and you ask Galadriel to pass the butter and she looks you dead in the eyes and tells you the exact time and place of your death. and Celeborn is just like “isn’t my wife smart 😃”
“what do you see in that guy” “he makes me laugh” a la Jessica Rabbit, but Galadriel’s laugh is absolutely terrifying. Celeborn tells a shitty pun straight out of some dollar store joke book and Galadriel lets out this classic Disney villain laugh, and the sky quakes and you hear fear in the language of the leaves and Celeborn is just like “I’m glad you liked that one ☺️”

The way Charlie continues to put the (delulu part of the) fans of this ship on their place is my favorite thing ever, please don't stop.

For the ship ask Annatar/Celebrimbor (I don’t ship this myself, but at the same time have read one or two fics with them)
Tumblr media
It compels me enough to play with it, but I don’t really enjoy many fanon interpretations. I was never all that into it prior to the show. I do love it in the context of Rings of Power for reasons that are about 60% Charlie and Charlie oozing sexual chemistry the entire time they were on screen together and 40% anti h*ladriel spite, so 😭 I started shipping ROP them as a joke but now it’s not a joke anymore help

in a way, sauron x galadriel is a shipper's dream.
first of all, i love how everything about their story is so connected that it's difficult to pick a favorite haladriel moment as it feels like no scene can be seen as separate, each moment informs the other and gives it a significance, creating one big web of intertwined parallels in a tight narrative that's essentially a metaphor for the eternal push-pull of the light & the darkness.
(but if i had to choose favorites, i would say haladriel on the ship + "brought to its' knees to worship the light of its' queen". this line encapsulates their bond perfectly and it feels like this thought occured to him on that ship.)
insane chemistry and their soulmatism not knowing any bounds in trop aside, the context of trop!haladriel opens the door for interpretation and speculation about their post-trop relationship within trop continuity.
they mind-communicate for 3000+ years; he gropes ever to see her, and even if gal can close her door on him, she herself wanders around his mind from time to time. and they do all that while seeing each other from their balconies.
and we know they are doomed but are they really doomed forever when they are immortal? galadriel takes nenya to valinor and while it represents her leadership and fight, with trop it also symbolizes her connection to sauron. she even recites the very first thing he ever told her after she rejects the one ring, with sadness in her tone. sauron never stops trying to see her and, with trop context, wanting her to be his queen. uniting trop + other canons, it wouldn't be wrong to say they never get over each other.
so i say give them some time and they will somehow sort it out after like a billion years. valinor reunion not so impossible when the time frame is all eternity.
immortality + eternity = the landscape of this ship being infinite.
+ there is no set canon in legendarium, it's a living mythology that's told as a historic retelling by the witnesses of the events passed.
so... repentant sauron being bound to a high queen galadriel to fight against morgoth when?
and it's one of those ships that is simply so vastly beautiful and interesting that it inspires creativity, yk? and i love it.

It will take me a long, long time to catch up with everything I have missed so far but what am I getting to hear?
Haladriel have antis now? Like proper, vocal antis?! Antis in flesh? Antis who are obsessed with dunking on the ship and stalking the shippers? Antis who care enough for the ship?! I feel so emotional now. Like a proud mom at her kid's graduation. Seems like yesterday when the Haladriel tag had just ten shippers and no one but the dudebros - who hate everything fun anyway - were hating on the ship. But now we have antis. Is it even a popular ship if it doesn't have a dedicated antibase? My little Haladriel is finally part of the Big Kids club.

An anon asked earlier about my thoughts on Celedriel and my answer turned into another long ass meta. Shocker. So I decided to post it as a general response to the ship and Galadriel's marriage in TROP. I haven't said much about it because my takes are controversial and I think only 3 people in Borneo would agree with me. But the brain rot is what it is.
As for the Celedriel/haladriel in-fighting. I don’t get it. There’s room for everyone. It shouldn’t threaten anyone. I’m not against the ship either. I just have to see TROP’s take on it. I will say this, and it's an unpopular opinion: what I hate is the idea of boxing Galadriel in a ship because she is canonically married. I see that argument all the time on X. Like that’s it. That’s the tweet. “She’s married.” “Married” isn’t a personality trait. To me, it doesn’t say anything of the individuals involved. It doesn’t even denote love. It gives me nothing, sorry. I want to see their relationship before I ship it. Like I said, I am very open. And I do know what marriage means to elves but that’s clearly not what many of these online folk are asserting. We live in a post-modern, non-Middle Earth world. I'm not a big fan of chivalric love stories but that's my taste.
I love TROP Galadriel because she exists outside of her marriage. She became a warrior and commander. She’s dirty and bloody. She’s a brash, surly, tempestuous, unapologetic woman with priorities that are decidedly un-wifey and not traditionally feminine. Her husband disappeared in the war and she moved on with her life.
What I find interesting is that while Galadriel accepted her husband as gone... Sauron? She refused to. She pursued her rival for centuries with little more than a hunch and a handful of ashes. She pointed to her heart and said he wasn’t gone. Where was that certainty, that intuition about her missing husband?
Tumblr media
And when Halbrand confronted her in Numenor, asking whom she had lost, for whom was she fighting? Her answer was not her husband. So why is Galadriel not as bound to Celeborn as she is to Sauron? In elven tradition, the fear of elves are intertwined through courtship, marriage and then sex. If their fear are tied, as they should according to Tolkien, she should know if Celeborn had passed and wouldn’t she be looking for him? But in TROP, does she know? And if she has no flarking idea if his fea had passed to the afterlife, i.e Halls of Mandos. Why?
Here’s my next unpopular take. The showrunners have already stated that Celebrian hasn't been born in this timeline. What if it’s because Galadriel and Celeborn have not consummated their marriage yet? And that’s why Gal’s fea hasn’t pinged on her husband. (Compare that with the text in the Unfinished Tales) So if she hasn’t had sex with Celeborn, their marriage contract is incomplete. The only 2 people who would know that are Gal and Celeborn. The other thing too is, elves do wear marriage rings. But here Galadriel is never seen wearing one for Celeborn? Why? Now let’s get to the meat. Why is her mind so attuned to Sauron? Why was that door open? Their bond had always been unique and singular. And now we know from the director that Galadriel loved Halbrand. I posit that there’s a possibility that they already had sex. I also suggest that Elrond believes they had too. His speech to her in Cirdan's workshop was very sensual in imagery: “Sauron looked inside you, plucked the very song of your soul, note by note. Making himself out to be exactly what you needed - the lost king who could ride you to victory.” Dude, he was trolling her. I believe that’s part of the reason why he’s so feral about Galadriel dabbling in anything to do with Sauron. Because she fell in love, (maybe?) had sex with him (possible?) and she is wearing a ring he believes to be under Sauron’s power. At this point, she is more the bride of Sauron than she was to her actual husband. Yeah.
I’m not saying she didn’t and doesn’t love Celeborn. I’m not saying she doesn’t value her marriage. It’s just clearly, it isn’t high on her list of priorities and if it doesn’t crack it, then obviously she doesn’t define herself by it and…*drumroll* she wouldn’t confine herself to it either.
So where would Celeborn fit in the grand scheme? How they would portray their marriage? In many ways, she’s the same elf Celeborn married: good, graceful, beautiful, charismatic, strong-willed, and clever. She could be all those things again. Sometimes that’s what marriage is. Being that person whom your partner married. But to find someone whom you could be yourself? Truly? That is a soulmate. So far, in the show, we’ve seen Galadriel with someone with whom she can be all parts of herself at once. Someone who sees her light and tells her to embrace her darkness. Who invites her to blaze at her brightest because he can withstand the flame. There is danger in that, of course. The flame could be a conflagration, destroying everything it touches in its wake. A temptation and adrenaline rush that only another one who bears a ring of power would understand.
If I were a TROP writer and I had to bring Celeborn back and make him a compelling counterpoint to Sauron, I would give him a whole arc and backstory of his own. I would show him on his own odyssey home to Galadriel. I’d show him in dire straits and similar obstacles where he triumphs because of his decency and devotion to the love he left behind. (Cold Mountain comes to mind). It’s a classic tale and it works every. damn. time.

Oh my god... why am I coming across this bullshit ?! No, Galadriel is definitely not done with Sauron after the season 2 finale ! She is in no way free in spirit and mind ! Damn, Sauron forcibly bound her to him by blood ! Are you being stupid on purpose ?! And of course... Mister Celeborn would be the key to Galadriel's happiness. The man from whom even in Tolkien's texts she spends a lot of time apart and who is not more important than that in the arc of our lady of light. I swear this kind of shit annoys me.

So the rings of powers creators admitted that nenya is galadriel wich means that galadriel is nenya wich in turn makes that scene of sauron/annatar kneeling before galadriel (with his eyes so big as if he were that girl from fallout) in complete awe of nenya's beauty totally platonic, rigth ?

My major issue with ai has to do with ethics and labor relations, but I'll also say that I really wish I hadn't seen those video clips. If Galadriel and Sauron ever do kiss, I want to see the emotion and weight that the actors bring to that moment - not just their faces awkwardly crashing into each other.
AI stuff should be labeled and the content should be hidden unless people opt in. This stuff is far more offensive, on a lot of levels, than erotic content, and it's quite telling that there are no controls or options around this system of theft from creative workers, while there's infinite moral panic about people being exposed to the naked form even in the context of art.
Anyway, people who are skeptical about this go read some Marx. Not in a "you should be a socialist" way, but in a "this is part of a long trend of stealing labor, alienating labor, and consolidating wealth and power among those who own technology instead of those who have skills" way.

People who ship Galadriel and Sauron and at the same time actually think that he has at least some sincere feelings for her are a clear example of how Sauron subdued people and forced them to believe in any illusion.

Omg thanks fro reminding me about haladriel.... I tolerate trop, even enjoyed some bits of it but dear god not the haladriel shippers😭 I have the entire trop tag excluded in my Ao3 for my own sanity.
i'm so sorry for reminding you. I, too, wish I could forget about it. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 you're really valid for that. I'm pro-ROP and I love the fic (and write some obvs obvs) but it is so...disheartening...to see the total number of ROP fics on the archive literally get cut in half the second you exclude all iterations of the h*ladriel tag.

i’m actually hollering rn cause some people spent the last 2 years crying about haladriel and how it would disrupt canon blah blah only for this elf show to make her do something equally (and i’d argue if not more) ridiculous 😭
like thank yew because now we can yell haladriel canon and will fuck into the void and you can’t bring up it being lore avoidant or that she’d never do that yep it’s actually a win for us!

it might be ambiguous but sauron x galadriel's relationship is central to the show, both in detail and overarching narrative. and if the antis can't catch on and recognize how trop deliberately uses several tropes, framing, acting choices, parallels, patterns, metaphors, symbolism, subtext and dialogue to signify the erotic and metaphysic undertones underlying this dynamic then it's on their own media illiteracy, not on us having the "shipping goggles" on.

at least, this shocking scene from the finale that the reviewer was talking it not e/g kiss because it has already happened in 2x07, so there is a high possibility that that super secret scene from the finale will be related to haladriel
That’s my impression too, Anon!!
There’s got to be a good reason why it’s under strict embargo and haladriel fans who’ve watched the finale have nothing but praise for it. Not to mention what the director said in that podcast about Sauron proving that he really loves Galadriel. I don’t think any of this is solely promo and therefore lies, simply because there’s no need to bait a subfandom that will tune in regardless.
While I don’t want to delude myself and others into thinking they’re going to kiss (because that might not happen this season and I’m okay with that), I think Haladriel’s long awaited confrontation will make up for the lack of interactions this season and will anger the antis to a degree that is dangerous to YT’s ecosystem.
