Children’s ("Stimson's") Python (Antaresia childreni), juvenile, family Pythonidae, Port Hedland region of the Pilbara, Western Australia
This population was formerly referred to as Stimson’s Python, but they are no longer considered to be a distinct subspecies. No subspecies are currently recognized for Children’s Python.
Some people do though consider Stimson's to be a distinct species, A. stimsoni.

Is there anyone with a good knowledge of these snakes that could give us an opinion on the status of Stimson's Pythons?

Love your blog! Have you ever dealt with a Banded Pygmy Python (antaresia spp) from Australia? I’m keen to get a snake one day and I think these lil guys are pretty funky. Do you know if Pygmy pythons have any special requirements compared to “full size” pythons?
I'm afraid I haven't! Banded pygmy pythons are a varient of Stimson's pythons (Antaresia stimsoni) which are smaller and have a distinctive banded pattern. They are also impossible to find outside of Australia, which is why I haven't ever met one! They're found only in extreme northern Queensland and they're so cute! They're considerably smaller than regular Stimson's pythons (about 60 cm at the absolute longest), and their care isn't really different from your standard Stimson's.
Because of their smaller size, be 100% sure you buy a snake that's eating well on f/t rodents! Their small size means it'll be tempting for breeders to get them started on lizards, and it's hard for a beginner to get them on rodents after that.

Another find from the trip to Shark Bay, a really lovely looking Stimson's #Python (Antaresia stimsoni). Another widespread species, you can also find these as Far East as western NSW. (at Tamala Station Shark Bay)

Miss Rose has been getting all the screen time, so today we turn our attention to the delightful and equally photogenic Miss Milly. She's a Stimson's Python (Antaresia stimsoni) and she's been my sweet little girl for over eight years now. She's gentle and not nippy, so she's great with kids and first-time snake-handlers 🐍❤🐍

Items in blue (others) are so-called subjective synonyms, but based on second authors taxonomic diagnosis are one and the same taxon as earlier items on right, meaning oldest available names must be used.  Items in blue typically include specimens from same location and collection series and/or extremely closely related species if genus, with later authors typically lifting important diagnostic material from earlier authors papers (mainly uncited or alternatively derided, but bootlegged). About half the junior synonyms have NOT been recorded in Zoobank (ICZN Repository) as of end January 2020 and many of the others are incompletely listed. All senior Hoser names (most on this list) have been fully recorded in Zoobank at time of original publication since inception of Zoobank (ICZN), and also recorded on publication and archived at Zoological Record, National Library of Australia, Natural History Museum, UK, etc, and fully comply with rules of the in force International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Last updated 20 May 2020.  In the original table as printed, the underlined names are OBJECTIVE synonyms (as in exactly the same type specimen or type species - about 30 in total). Items in blue are so-called subjective synonyms, but based on second authors taxonomic diagnosis are one and the same taxon as earlier items on right, meaning oldest available names must be used.  Items in blue typically include specimens from same location and collection series and/or extremely closely related species if genus, with later authors typically lifting important diagnostic material from earlier authors papers (mainly uncited or alternatively derided, but bootlegged). About half the junior synonyms have NOT been recorded in Zoobank (ICZN Repository) as of end Sept 2019 and many of the others are incompletely listed. Learn more at http://www.smuggled.com/scientific-fraud-wolfgang-wuster.htm

Antaresia stimsoni (Pythonidae), the Stimson’s python, is one of Australia’s smallest python species (up to 150 cm total length). The background colour of Stimson’s python is usually yellow, reddish or light brown, while the dark blotches are brown to reddish-brown and may sometimes be fused to form bars.
It is a small, nocturnal snake from arid parts of Australia, recognized by the pattern of large, dark blotches along its body, which give it the alternative name of Large-blotched python.
Like other python species, Stimson’s python has minute, vestigial hind limbs.
