My Elderly Mother Plays Baldur's Gate: Part 4
If you're not up to date on the saga, my mom is having me play Baldur's Gate 3 on her behalf because she has trouble using controllers/keyboards but still wants to "smooch the wizard boy." She is playing a neutral good wood elf druid; this is a detailed account of her crimes. Part 1 & 2 Part 3
Hey, everybody! Thanks to everyone who followed my blog to keep up with my mom's adventures. Also, shout-out to whoever called my mom "Crime Mom" last time I posted about this; she really got a kick out of that. We played for a full day yesterday so we could really get into Act III and make some progress.
Here are the atrocities she committed during yesterday's play session:
My mom is very pissed that she cannot keep Myshka the white cat. When she found Myshka, she told him that she was his mother because of course she did. Naturally, Myshka started following her around the city after that, and she was SO thrilled about it. However, when we went back to camp to trade out a companion and immediately came back to the city, the cat wasn't following her anymore, and my mom was so fucking upset. ("That boy thinks I'm his mother and I LEFT HIM! Why can't I take my son back to my camp with us?") My mom told me to tell my "tumblr friends" that Myshka should be able to join our camp like Scratch and the owlbear cub. So, if any of you guys are from Larian—take notes, I guess. My mother demands a cat son.
Upon seeing Mystra for the first time in the Stormshore Tabernacle cutscene, my mom immediately said in the bitterest voice imaginable, "I'm prettier than her." She is, of course, right. Fuck Mystra, all my homies hate Mystra.
When we found the Hag Survivors Group, my mom asked me if she could try combat for the first time, and she actually started to get the hang of it. ("Left bumper, mom. No, that's the trigger. BUMPER. Other left. There you go.") However, she didn't fully understand what "area of effect" meant and decided to cast Fireball ("Ooh, I've always wanted to use that one!") in an enclosed space before I could stop her. She instantly incinerated Mayrina, the floorboards, and the paladin, Adrielle. I was so fucking proud of her but also laughing so hard I was nearly in tears. She had me reload the save for her.
My mom returned the stolen money to the Counting House's head banker, then asked me to rob the rest of the building on our way out. When I asked her about the logic of this particular decision, she said, "We're saving the city from mind flayers, so these funds are really going back into the local economy when you think about it. We're a great cause!" I have no idea why she didn't just keep the stolen pouch of money in the first place. We wasted so many scrolls and Arrows of Transposition to get everything out of those vaults.
She was FURIOUS when she found out Auntie Ethel wasn't actually dead. My dad called in the middle of the day to check in on dinner plans and mom kept him on the phone for at least ten minutes while she ranted about hags who "should stay dead when they're told to."
My mom adores Jaheira. The two of them are very similar to each other, so I think she gets a kick out of seeing Camp Mom do Camp Mom things that she would do if she were actually in the game. My mom also loves Minsc and Boo. TASTE.
Don't know how soon my mother will come back for another play session, but I'll keep you guys updated whenever I can! She has already asked me if I would DM a D&D session for her retired friends, so I'm trying to find time to do that. Maybe I'll do some updates on that if we get it going.
Thank for everyone's support! Crime Mom and I appreciate it.

2024 year in review
Another year and chronic illness again took a toll on my hobbies. I put out a few pixel art pieces, I cleaned up a manga scan, I updated the Donkey Kong Card Game archive... kind of the bare minimum. I did play a bunch of games and publish reviews of them, which is the main reason I started this blog. Of course I've got other things going on outside the blog, with managing a monthly game club, weekly streams, etc. One of my longer term goals is to manage my condition better so that I have more energy for hobby stuff. Who knows if that will happen in 2025.
My gaming choices followed some noticeable trends. There was some heavy Vita usage in February when I contracted Covid, cleaning up the Analgesic games I hadn't gotten to, finishing the Panzer Dragoon series, Team Ico's games and Ico-likes, a deep dive into Avatar games (including a massive Flash game retrospective on stream)... and then, the massive Sonic blowout that dominated fully half the year, both on and off stream. What a rollercoaster that was. In fact, given the sheer volume, I feel I should do Sonic awards and non-Sonic awards.
"Most pleasant surprise [Sonic category]" has to be Sonic Forces, which gets roundly mocked but I absolutely fell in love with. All three Sonic Boom games land here as well, to a lesser extent, plus the delightful Sonic R. "Most unpleasant surprise [Sonic category]" is probably Sonic Adventure 2, which I had a miserable time with. Most people agree that Sonic 06 is godawful, Unleashed is rough, Lost World is weird, Colours has a terrible script, and Secret Rings controls like ass, but SA2 really highlighted to me that there is no golden age for Sonic, there are nuggets and turds in every era. Runners up are Riders and Chronicles. "Best Sonic story" is contentious, with Battle, Chronicles, and Frontiers putting forth strong showings, and Shadow Generations blowing most other games away (with the handicap of being fronted by Shadow), but the winner is the game that's all story, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. "Best Sonic music" is also stiff competition, with Sonic R, Secret Rings, and vocal tracks from across the Dreamcast/PS2 era getting play on my phone long after I'd finished the games, but Tomoya Ohtani rises above it all with Unleashed, Colours, and Lost World impressing me; Frontiers has great vocal and Cyberspace tracks but for me Forces hits the peak with Fist Bump and Infinite as well as better consistency across the OST.
"Best DLC/update" goes to Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, since it's basically Elden Ring 2. Runners up are Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania, and the added Star Fox campaign in Starlink. "Best postgame", an award I invented to celebrate Analgesic's extensive development archives contained within the game. Sephonie's added platforming challenges kept me hooked but Even the Ocean's huge beta worlds and commentary were revelatory about the creation process which wins it the award. "Best co-op game" must reward Divinity Original Sin 2, which my brother and I played consistently literally the whole year, but haven't finished yet... look for a review in 2025. Runners up are Towerfall Ascension and Lego Skywalker Saga (again, review TBA). "The underwhelming followup award" goes to Panzer Dragoon Saga for turning a series of thrilling and creative rail shooters into a mediocre RPG. Runners up are the merely OK Last Guardian, and Avatar: Quest for Balance for being shoddier than the mid-2000s licenced Avatar games.
Thanks for reading (if you did), and here's hoping for a safe and pleasant 2025.

(Previous anon) im so mad that Those isn't the first fic in death note ao3 when you sort it by kudos because it's THE fic that deserve that spot. It's so. Man i can't even say anything. It's so good. Saying it's good doesn't give it justice. It change me actually. I find myself spacing out everytime i finished a chapter. I hope it'd be completed one day because i really need it to be. BUT TBH IDK IF IM READY WHEN LAST CHAPTER DROP
honestly i never sort by kudos and i didn't even read those on ao3 (ffn gang!!!). i think this is actually a great example of why sorting by popularity isn't always the way to find something that suits your reading needs.
people read fic for different reasons - some people want a multi novel length saga, some people want a short comedy, some people want vent or darkfic, and some people want to jack off. those is the fic of all time to ME but to someone else who's reading for another reason entirely might not even want to read it! some of the most beautiful writing i have seen on ao3 doesn't have nearly the kudos or hits of something that hits on readers' favorite tropes.
and regarding finishing it, i'm so grateful to the author for sharing her work with us, and if she updates again i'm sure everyone will be thrilled - but honestly if it's never officially completed that's okay too.

It’s been another 84 years since I’ve made a personal post, but I finally have energy again and can function on a basic level, so it’s nice to be around more often.
I made a life updates post almost a full year ago, so an update to that update:
-I’m still engaged! To be married!!! And hopefully things will work out to have the wedding in early fall 2024 or 25.
-I got fired from my cushy corporate job lmfao. I gotta be honest, it was truly draining everything out of me, so even though I really tried my best to do well there, I wasn’t exactly devastated when I was let go. By the time I got home I had no energy for anything, and I was truly just going through the motions every day. I haven’t had energy for games or crafts or hobbies or research or anything. It’s been rough, personally, so I honestly feel so GOOD to feel alive again.
-I am going back to the park service, and I am also going back to school to get the next level of degree. I got accepted to a really good one, and I am super excited. Though I am an old now, and I am anxious about not being in the same age bracket as most of my fellow classmates.
-Still living in my dream home in Salem. Still don’t know how I got this lucky.
-My dnd campaign is on it’s third year, and will officially finish next month. It’s been a saga, and I am sad to see it end but so thrilled we’re actually gonna make it to its conclusion.
Hope all of you are doing well. It’s been ages since I’ve talked to anyone on here. Lots of love as always.

Imagine – a comprehensive guide that intertwines gardening wisdom, food education, and sustainable living!
Gaining Traction and Looking Ahead With my first presentation behind me and positive feedback in hand, I'm ready to refine and repeat the process. The best part? I've already got another presentation lined up and am gearing up for the Big Conference in London next week. I can't wait to distribute business cards, network, and expand Cultiva Terra's reach.
Business Growth: A World of Opportunities One thing I've learned about running a business? The opportunities are endless. Every challenge faced opens a door to new possibilities, and I’m just scratching the surface of what can be achieved with Cultiva Terra.
Personal Reflections: Dreaming Big On a personal note, I've discovered a deep-seated passion for envisioning and planning expansion. This journey isn't just about building a business; it's about laying the groundwork for something much larger. I'm excited about what the future holds and am fully committed to making Cultiva Terra a cornerstone of sustainable and educational living.

Anime Update V3 7
Vinland Saga S2 - Have seen the episodes covering Ketil’s counterattack against Canute’s forces which did not go too well and left Ketil completely broken and crippled, which is well deserved since his burst of violence against Arnheid led to her death. His two sons are left to grapple with their differing responses to having to face war for the farmlands. Thorfinn really shone here, taking after his father’s example and telling Arnheid about Vinland in her final minutes of living, then going to speak with Canute himself only to confront the limitations of his pacifist approach to conflict resolution yet still finding a way to avoid more senseless violence, taking 100 punches from the army’s strongest man so that he be allowed to speak with the king. And that last scene where Thorfinn and Einar are face to face with Canute…so much tension. Such weight to the drama! Four years (in-universe and for me) building to this. Can Thorfinn avoid violent engagement with the delusional young king?
Hunter x Hunter - As preparations are being made by Gon and his allies to raid the palace when the day of selection arrives, the best intrigue still goes to the ant king himself and how he’s now grappling with a huge contradiction to his sense of identity and purpose due to how much Komugi has rubbed off on him, and how he’s begun to care about her and wants her protected at all costs. And this soft spot is troubling for Pouf, who’s so fanatical about the strength and merciless evil of his king that the thought of him changing course from his agenda of violence and dominance drives him to despair!
SHUFFLE! - Saw the episode that finally gave Asa full character focus that gave us some glimpses into her past and her feelings for Rin that she tries to play off with teasing and provocative humor. The following one was even better since it gave us more Sia as she planned out her perfect date with Rin only for it to turn out more hectic than she’d hoped, with every main character getting to appear at each location Sia and Rin went to, but this ended up working to the date’s advantage and tightened the bond between the two. Sia is just delightful every time she comes along, so this was quite the treat!
The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II - Saw the series premiere, or rather premieres. This one started on an “Episode 0” that throws us into the present day life of Waver Velvet, currently Lord El-Melloi II in the stead of Kayneth’s teenage niece, as he and his supporting cast have to catch a hired hit man mage who’s inflicted Waver with a curse of misfortune that tied his life to that of a dying black cat. The proper first episode that followed went backwards to take us further back still as Waver has to recount his experience at Iskandr’s tomb to his crazy new sister who held him hostage and talked him into taking the El-Melloi mantle, teaching at the mage academy and dealing with the mages of Clocktower. Definitely gonna be an interesting one...
KonoSuba - Saw the one where the party goes to the snow fields and Kazuma gets re-killed by the Winter Shogun, which gives him a chance to respawn into a better life in another world but he decides he’s grown too close to the world he and Aqua went to, and his companions, to be done with it yet…which he regrets upon actually returning’ Just when you think he’s making some progress!
Symphogear XV - CAROL’S BACK!!! I had to start there ‘cause getting to not only see Carol’s doll autoscorer minions again but the return of Carol’s persona from within Elfnein gave me such a thrill, and even better, she’s on the good guys side for this situation! Also noteworthy, Fudou reveals he’d set Noble Red up to be eradicated after completing Shem-Ha’s revival because he’s a monster who wants to attain god-like power to live out his savior fantasy with, and Shem-Ha’s revival allows her to overtake Miku so that she’s now her physical vessel! The credits that followed this was just cruel, making it seem like this could really be it for Miku…
Eureka Seven - Went through the fallout period of what occurred in the previous episodes. The B plot of Dominic visiting Axel Thurston and Axel helping fix up Dominic’s motorbike was my favorite part of the first one, especially with the gruff old man’s kindness making Dominic abandon his plans to exploit him for information on his family, though Talho finally just snapping and telling Renton the truth about Eureka, that she’s a person made from the Coral who was the subject of what Renton’s father was pursuing, was sure something as well. Holland is taking small but sincere steps towards repentance of his old shitbag ways, Talho makes a change of her own (though I found the haircut to be gratuitous and a step down), and Renton continues his growth…and this leaves Eureka in a space where she’s just kind of bland now? Ever since she made her recovery from her ailment she’s lost a lot of the oddball characteristics she had at first and has been defined by her love for Renton and general kindness like with the kids. Given that the show’s got her name in the title, that’s a sad oversight, but not enough to ruin how good things are.
Gintama - The dual stories episode with the snow and ice festival and the crazy old fireworks artist.
AND
Girls Last Tour - A very different take on a "Cute Girls Do Cute Things" anime, with two hapless dumbass moeblobs travelling around a post-apocalyptic world in a tank, bridging the gap between comedy and tragedy the whole way. Unusual, but I enjoyed watching it, though it being one cours sadly meant it got cut short of ending.
