what would you say is this blog's thesis?
antisocial australian man experiences existential dread while attempting to purchase a house and decides to hoard masses of real estate (and other) imagery documenting the abject horror of the perpetual and metastasizing international housing crisis. I also find it kind of artistically interesting - real estate imagery is an enormous, ephemeral genre of visual material that can contain a lot of creative and cultural value. The perspectives and information that people contribute as well is really valuable; there's something to the idea of how direct and personal (and occasionally fear-inducing) some of these images can be in relation to the atomisation created by the forces in society and history that contribute to our present-day immiseration, and how they cut across those lines.

loved the first chapter!!! Is Ben going to regret a bit for not saying I love you back (sorry I love a good angst🙃)
Hi there! 💚
I think you're referring to Wake Me Up Part 1 (Soldier Boy/Ben x Reader). Thank you so much!! I've been fine tuning this mini series for a while now, and I'm so very glad you enjoyed the first part. 🥰💚
Ohhh, Ben will definitely come to regret that moment. This story will be angsty and drama-filled, but also not without some major hurt/comfort. ❤️🩹
Thanks so much for dropping into my inbox, even anonymously!
(Any feedback/reblogging of the actual chapter post would also be so appreciated. 💗)

just read your mr jelly fic holy shit it’s brilliant. you’re an amazing writer. i didn’t realise you’re also the author of the inside no 9 misdirection fic, ive been reading that one over and over for the past few months now and it is *chef’s kiss*. do u happen to know any other mr jelly fics (or any fics about reece’s characters in general)? this is such a weird, disturbing niche - can’t believe i’m attracted to a shitty middle aged clown with one hand lol. anyway hope ur well! <3
Thank you so much for your kind words! Unfortunately Mr Jelly fics seem to be extremely hard to find 😢 (which is kind of why I wrote my own - had to indulge my own sick filth, lol).
I'm glad you enjoyed the Misdirection fic as well. You may have already read it, but I also wrote a fic about Ollie Plimsolls, which you can find here:
There definitely needs to be more fic about Reece's characters! I want to write more but my mental health has been screwing with me so my motivation has been sucking recently. But yeah, basically he lives in my head rent-free, lol.

i’m so excited for whenever you’re able to post the next one but i’m also scared about the endings cause i feel the angst SO DEEPLY
IM SO GLAD IT HAD U GIGGLING CAUSE IT HAD ME GUGGLING TOO. i was listening to it to get in the mood, i'll try to do that for each member!
i'll give u a heads up, three of the members don't have their "happy endings" but the rest do, niki being one of them!
i added my own touches to each fic so that it's not exactly like the song, but i hope i exceed ur expectations haha TT-TT
i would a say none of them got me in tears but everyone is different, we will see.
also, i'll try to get jay's out tonight too!!

Hello! I just read “once upon a summer” and I need to tell you how much I enjoyed it. You write conversation so well — everything flowed so naturally. I also loved how the relationship between the characters developed and progressed realistically. The pacing was perfect and I was so immersed and invested. I love this fic so much! Thank you for sharing it ❤️
thank you so much! you actually have no idea how much this means to me for a fic that i struggled with more than i would like to admit. i'm also glad that the pacing and their whole relationship felt natural 💕

I think there's something that needs to be said about encouraging readers to leave feedback.
For me it's not about "tell me my writing is amazing and stroke my ego"
It's more about "please engage with me so that I can experience your joy secondhand and foster a connection with you"
I understand that not everyone wants this in their reading experience, some people are shy and a million other reasons why maybe someone wouldn't want to engage and that's perfectly fine!
But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.
On encouraging reblogs —
I understand that not everyone is comfortable reblogging, especially explicit content. This is ok!
But just consider that the only reason you were able to enjoy a fic or fanart is because someone else shared it, and by not sharing it yourself you are potentially robbing someone else of the opportunity to enjoy it as much as you did.
As OPs our reach only goes so far and this website relies on reblogs in order for anything to truly get seen by a wider audience.
So that's really it! That's why I encourage these two things at the end of every story I post. Not because I'm trying to be demanding and "make people feel bad" if they don't do it.
I know most other social media sites encourage mindless content consumption and that's just the way of the world nowadays, but I am from a time when community was at the heart of fandom and I just don't want to lose that.
#fandom#that anon ask really got me thinking yesterday#but honestly my readers have been so amazing about feedback!! tysm

Have you seen the recent comment made by Jelly Fish Field on your itch page for Project Hadea. I just read it, and found their view really interesting and extremely important criticism on how you've decided to write certain reactions. I love your writing a lot, so it was extremely eye opening what they wrote. What i'm getting at is, I would just like to hear your feedback on that specific comment! all love, and I do hope this won't be taken the wrong way!
I've seen it, yeah. and... okay, I've discussed my reasons for not using rape as a content warning before, and I stand by them; I'm not revisiting any discussion on what does and does not constitute rape. the content is warned for, by specifics of what occurs in the text, to give people the chance to make the most informed decision they can about whether to play. that's it.
as for the rest of it... there's things in there that I understand. I get being frustrated that you can't fully explore the extent of the operative's trauma, yet; I get feeling like the rest of the crew don't trust you, or like rohan is a bitch. they don't, and xe is.
the thing that I find disagreeable about a lot of these criticisms (and similar ones) is that I think they betray a fundamental misreading of the text: the operative is a war criminal. they are heavily armed, unstable, and trapped on a ship with civilians. they kill multiple civilians in chapter one; they might well attempt to kill rohan in front of everyone, and later succeed in doing so. they are a confirmed murderer, who by and large refuses to tell the civilians why they are so angry with rohan. this is by design.the focus of this story is very much about coming to terms with your trauma - from long before you meet rohan! you've been medically experimented on, had your personhood denied for a long time, and had any kind of human empathy stamped out of you. part of the point of the game is for me to explore how trauma can be expressed in ways that are deeply unpalatable - the operative is not a "perfect victim" (a phrase I loathe) and their trauma impacts the way they move through the world, drawing out reactions that aren't wholly sympathetic or empathetic, because their actions are often unjustified and cause real harm, or seem that way to those who don't have full context.
this is why joia is important, this is why your relationships with the crew are important. the crew aren't intended to be author voices, they're not the moral compass here or audience stand-ins: they aren't supposed to represent the "correct" approach to dealing with other people's trauma. no character in this situation is intended to be seen as perfect, but as a way to shine light on different facets of the story.
the operative is built a very specific way, for very specific reasons: this is intentional. they are a person who has been deliberately dehumanised, used as a weapon, who volunteered and fought for the right to be a scientific guinea pig for the war crimes company, in order to be of greater use to said company. they have had their bodily autonomy violated so habitually, for their whole career - they have been coercively used as a test subject by their employer - that they can't see it as an abnormal violation. this isn't to say it is justified, or to diminish the traumatic impact rohan has, but... it's not the operative's first rodeo here, even if it's the player's.
they're bad at processing their emotions. the operative Does Not Cry: this is a character choice I have made. this is because they have had that emotional response beaten out of them. the operative isn't capable of taking their own trauma seriously, because they're not equipped to deal with it. they can't look at it head-on.
likewise, nash isn't capable of being a gentle, reassuring, sympathetic person, much as they might want to; a big part of that relationship is the idea that the pair of you have to relearn to how to relate to one another in your new contexts, and that isn't a smooth process. nash also has reasons to be reticent with you that are yet to be explored - this relationship is undergoing development, with both of you as violent people who commit violent acts, and who relate through violence. your relationship is built on your capacity to commit violence together. they are not equipped to deal with violence affecting you in the way it might someone else, because you've both spent the last ten years being conditioned and trained to assault other people. part of the theme of this game is to explore the way these people might experience a uniquely traumatic violent event, and the effect this might have on their own capacity to endure and process violence again themself.
I understand that it might not be the way people want to play their characters, but it's the way the character is written, and I am doing that on purpose. all I'm asking is that you trust me when I say that this is not going to be swept under the rug, even in the least volatile relationship you can have with rohan. if that's not possible for you - if you can't trust me to do this - then you're welcome to stop playing.
#honestly i think a lot of the criticisms in that post come from wanting to play a different game.#if you don't like joia: this game is not for you#if you dislike all the characters: this game is not for you#if you believe wholeheartedly that sex under false pretences is always rape. then it is in fact warned for#i always appreciate feedback but this was so comprehensively complaining about every aspect of the game that i have to assume#that they just didn't like it#which is fine! but i'm not going to change everything about it; especially the things that are very intentional and thematic#anon#long post#sorry. got away from me

Late night art thoughts.
If u feel like your art suffers from same-face syndrome, there are two areas that will mostly fix it: nose and jaw. Start with those. Do different shapes than you normally do. This applies to all art styles, from cartoony/anime to more realistic.
Fuck around and find beauty in the many shapes of the human form
#art tips#i see some people getting annoying anons about this from time to time#like first no one asked#and second you're not giving helpful feedback you're just being mean#ANYWAYS#biggest art advice i can give is fuck around and use references

Since you're Australian, why are so many of the posts from the US? Did you start with Australia and then move onto other countries once you'd felt like you exhausted it? Or is the US particularly interesting for your purposes?
A big part of the reason is the enormous difference in scale. Australia has about 25 million people, versus 300 or so million in the US. Each of the 50 states has at least one or two major cities, most have many more than that. In addition to the volume of real estate imagery produced by this market, there are a few things about the US in this context which draw me in from an Australian perspective. One is how real estate listings weirdly embody how much more visually apparent the harmful economic forces of the past 50 years are in American society than they are here or elsewhere. Australia's welfare state was developed roughly during the same time as in the US, and has similarly been cut back since the 1970s. But it was always much weaker in the US than in Australia or Western Europe, and correspondingly the effects of its deterioration - along with other economic trends - have been much more visible than they are here. The way this is played out in terms of localised funding for public services means that many American cities have pockets (of varying sizes) where poverty and other forms of systemic oppression are concentrated and left open to the elements. The sort of stuff Jacob Holdt documented in his photos in the 70s, or that you see in a lot crime films and thrillers with location shooting. Gentrification and other forces since then have pushed these pockets into other areas and made some places seem less grim, but from what I've heard it seems like it would be hard for the average person in the US to ignore that these large, systemic problems exist. Conversely, in Australia, this kind of intense poverty has been pushed into the margins of society during the same time period - to remote communities (where people suffer from chronic diseases that have been eradicated in most other wealthy countries), country towns with shrinking economies, or to the fringes of larger cities (where people sleep in their cars in parking lots, or multiple families form sharehouses to afford $400-500+ pw rents). Though as things have gotten worse, particularly since COVID, it's getting harder to ignore. But still there's a substantial part of the population here who have grown up in ignorance of any of the larger, percolating structural problems in Australian society, and who proactively retain that ignorance into adulthood.
I think you can see these different perspectives play in out in real estate listings. In most American states, even in most of the towns I've looked at, you can see a broad spectrum of living conditions (and commercial interpretations of ideal living conditions) - from burnt out trailers, to overpriced renovated shitty older houses with cheap grey vinyl flooring and white walls, to clearly lived-in time capsules to McMansions to actual mansions. Some photographs are clearly shot by owners, others by real estate agents with a great variety of care and attention to detail (from elaborate staging to crime scenes). Rightly or wrongly, I feel like I get a broader, more honest (or at least more direct) feel for the housing crisis. It's a more honest horror film.
Australian listings, I think in part due to concentrations in corporate power in the real estate industry (similar to other monopolies that have formed in our economy), tend to more heavily adhere to the visual language of advertising and are more heavily regulated by agencies. The problems still exist, the housing market here is among the worst in the world and little effort is being made to address the underlying structural issues, but you can see the lack of will to acknowledge these issues in the level of gloss that's applied. You can look at a listing of an older house in Western Australia, for instance, and know for a fact that it's riddled with asbestos and probably has several other structural issues, but most likely enough time and effort will have been spent on staging and lighting and maybe surface-level renovations that it will seem otherwise fine. Lots of turds that have been polished successfully enough that you need insider knowledge to properly identify them as dogshit. Incidentally, I spent part of my childhood in a house built in the 1960s that had asbestos in the walls and ceiling.
I'm still interested in images from Australian listings (and other sources) though, I just look for other things that are interesting. Anything that runs contrary to the artificially positive, limited world view that advertising promotes. Even if its a poorly-lit time capsule that is directly aesthetically opposite to the ideal of house-beauty at the moment, or an obviously run-down house that has had every realtor photography trick in the playbook thrown at it until it becomes deeply uncanny. And it's always interesting to see what other people find interesting; I genuinely think the housing crisis underwrites every other political issue we have to contend with, its tendrils extend in many different directions, and I think this also means imagery like this can reach people in a diversity of ways. Aesthetically, nostalgically, inspiring fear and self-loathing and horror. All good sources of inspiration for creativity.

Hi! I'm an anonymous asker who sometimes sends fellow simmers questions. "Simblr Question of the Day" is something I saw going on around September '23 and I wanted to revive this "trend"!
I'm going to continue preserving my anonymity, but I'd like to share some basics about me ! ~
You can call me squat or squatty! A name I chose based on the way I pronounce "SQOTD," You can also call me SQOTD Anon! My timezone is ( PST ) - I like the colors yellow and pink/red, I've been playing the sims since I was 5 and I like to read and write :)
And below the cut will include a little rundown of how I will run this blog and navigation hashtags ~
- Questions will probably be very Sims 4 Oriented, but questions can be stretched or translated for older Sims games! - There are going to be repeat questions, I cannot moderate this since it would make question queueing a lot longer and tedious for me :( Sorry!! - Also! You can absolutely answer: 1. older SQOTDs 2. a SQOTD multiple times or 3. a SQOTD that isn't prompted by an ask - This is a "daily" questions blog and a questions archive -I will queue a question once a day around 4am PST -Interact with these posts in anyway you prefer: reblog, reply or a separate post! (make sure to tag me ^^) -I FULLY encourage YOU to continue sending asks with SQOTDs (crediting/tagging me is optional). -If you have your own question for SQOTD, you can send me an ask with your question and I will post it prompting anyone of Simblr to answer it! -Since this isn't my main blog, I won't be following anyone back and due to inactivity, I won't be able to check this blog very often.

Do you think you will ever write any more fics around Reece’s Characters? Your Jelly fic is probably one of my favourites and I love re reading it!
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to write some more. Unfortunately my mental health has been really bad and I recently lost someone very close to me. I'm really struggling just to get through the day ATM. But hopefully, when things are a bit better, I'll be able to concentrate on writing again.

chill tf out i was just giving an advice, you have no right to treat random ppl like that, especially when i was just trying to help. you’re a proper asshole, hope ppl realize that
who tf asked for it though
here i’ll spell it out for you since you clearly don’t understand and id like you comprehend why you giving unsolicited advice is broadly seen as entitled and a dick move by the entire creator community online: we are not an art critique circle
if your criticism ever hurts someone and stops them from wanting to draw you failed as a critiquer. your criticism wasn’t constructive it was destructive. and the chances of this happening on the internet is High.
point blank: you don’t know if someone is doing drawing something someway because they like it or not. and you voicing your opinion is thus not ‘helping’ as you so very much want to believe, it’s entitlement to think you know better.
people draw and post on here to get away from real world where critiques from ur boss or ur colleagues actually matter.
there are times where creators solicit advice or suggestions. give them there.
#ask#also a psa for anyone who thinks i was being too harsh#i want to reply to more positive anons but in this case i felt it important to spell out WHY#bc i am very confident in knowing that this is a dare i say universal sentiment#i have friends who majored in arts and critique was so stressful for them it was nauseating#and that is something where u have to game urself up for feedback#so this notion that u just dropping suggestions to help#boomer gen x behavior sorry#mind ur own business genuinely
