The thing that I love about Lito and Wolfgang’s connection is that, more than any other particular pair in the cluster, they know and acknowledge that they each lack a particular strength that the other definitively has.
The entire sequence of events between Wolfgang being trapped because he can’t lie to (literally) save his life and Lito stepping in even when he’s at his lowest and being able to help and get Wolfgang out of the situation because “lying is easy. It’s what I do” to Wolfgang stepping in and beating the absolute fuck out of Joaquin on Lito’s behalf is just! An exercise in mutual appreciation that exists on a one-to-one level that doesn’t come up a lot in the other sensate pairs. They all help each other, of course they do, but it tends to be more cyclical in a Will helps Nomi who helps Sun who helps Capheus who helps Riley who helps Kala who helps Will sort of way rather than direct. And I love all of them, absolutely, but I love these two for this in particular

Okay, but, what are the Batfamily’s favorite tv shows? It’s hard to find time between saving the world and curating their civilian identities, but when the Bats do have the chance to sit down and watch tv, they typically default to a certain genre.
Bruce by far has the weirdest taste in tv shows. Its why no one ever watches with him, because he’s the type to pick some random, obscure show that literally no one has ever heard of and is dubbed over in French or something. However, he does get kudos because he was the one that got everyone hooked on Squid Game.
Dick and Cass 100% watch American Ninja Warrior together. Dick started watching it when it first came out, and tunes in weekly for the new episodes. One day Cass walked in and was hypnotized. So now they watch it together and occasionally set up their own courses in the Batcave to have competitions on. Dick usually gets his ass beat but it’s still fun.
Jason watches period dramas. (This might actually be canon? I’m not sure?) He’s made his way through the Gilded Age, Downton Abbey, The Crown, and annually rewatches the ultimate cut of Pride and Prejudice. No one would expect the terrifying Red Hood to tear up watching Little Women, but man does that shit get to him…
Tim watches reality tv. The Kardashians, The Real Housewives, The Bachelor—he eats that shit up. Listening to other people’s problems and watching them deal with them in a removed way takes him back to his stalker days, and, hey, he appreciates some mind-numbing drama. Tim’s brain is like a whirlpool; sometimes it’s nice to just conk out thinking about what Kim said to Courtney, instead of that new project at WE or that new gadget he needs to work on for Young Justice.
Steph does not watch TV. She watches clips of TV shows on TikTok. (Particularly, those Young Sheldon clips that come up on everyone’s for you page.) On the rare occasions she actually does turn the TV on, it’s usually turned to Gossip Girl or a cartoon, and she doesn’t actually pay attention—it’s just background noise.
Damian is enthralled with National Geographic. He’ll deny it till the day he dies, but he loves those five-hour documentaries on rhinos and whale sharks or whatever. The problem is that he records everything, so the Manor’s DVR is always full, and it drives everyone crazy. Especially Dick, because by God, if there isn’t enough storage for next weekends episode of Ninja Warrior—
Duke likes comedy shows. Abbott Elementary, Parks and Rex, and The Good Place are just a couple of his favorites. He’s currently rewatching The Office with Barbra and they’ll quote it at each other during patrol.

Lucifer is a horrible king.
Yeah, I said it. And I’m gonna tell you why.
I get that people really like the depressed, duck-obsessed father, but they consistently let that overshadow what he has (or, rather, hasn’t) been doing.
First of all, Dad Beat Dad.
I see post after post about how Alastor is too arrogant for his own good, and I will definitely get to that later, but think about it.
Lucifer, the King of Hell, has never heard of Alastor. Alastor, the Radio Demon. Y’know. The guy that went on an Overlord killing spree? The guy that lives in the Pride Ring, and is therefore Lucifer’s direct subject? The guy that Lucifer only considers a threat when he starts getting jealous of *checks notes* a bellhop’s supposed relationship with his daughter?
If anyone should know who Alastor is, it should be Lucifer. And the fact that he doesn’t is revealing.
Let me put it this way: imagine you’re a king. One day, this mysterious dude starts killing off your local government. Keeping an eye on this dude should be a priority for you, right? It should at least be a mild concern. But no, only when the consequences of your actions—oh, sorry—when your daughter starts seeing this mysterious dude as a father figure do you care.
Lucifer, King of Hell, has never heard of the Radio Demon. And if he ignored that, what else was he ignoring?
Oh, right. The eternal suffering and misery of his subjects. Almost forgot.
And sinners aren’t his only subjects. What about the Hellborn? What about the imps and the hellhounds?
He’s doing nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Sure, Lucifer is depressed. He still has a fucking kingdom to take care of. A kingdom he has been completely ignoring in favor of…making rubber ducks.
And Charlie says, in Dad Beat Dad, that he allowed the exterminations to happen.
Let me rephrase: he allowed annual slaughters.
The only people he asked to be spared were the Hellborn. Oh, look at that. He did something. Shocker.
No wonder Lilith left him.
Oh, and have I mentioned how genuinely pathetic his beef with Alastor is yet? Yes? Well, I’m not done.
After rewatching (and rewatching, and rewatching…) the scene where he meets Alastor, guess what?
Lucifer threw the first metaphorical punch. At himself. In front of his subjects and his daughter.
He doesn’t know who Alastor is.
And Alastor, who clearly knows who Lucifer is, gets way too much criticism for his reaction.
Oh no, a short joke. Who knew that the 10000+ year old King of Hell could be felled by a short joke?
And when Alastor essentially gives him a second chance to recognize him—“You might have heard of me from my radio broadcast!”—Lucifer responds by insulting him.
Oh, and as a side note, he only said the name was clever when he thought it was Charlie’s idea. Which calls into question how genuine his initial statement was.
And, okay. Regardless of if Alastor was bullshitting being a father figure or not, Lucifer had it coming.
Oh no, the archangel was an absent father, and now a male sinner is being *checks notes again* supportive of his daughter. Oh, the outrage. What a tragedy. Can you hear the fucking sarcasm in my voice.
It’s pathetic. It’s so pathetic.
Lucifer needed a wake-up call—hey, your relationship with your daughter doesn’t even exist anymore, maybe you should step up and do something—and Alastor gave it to him.
Sorry if this sounds bitter. I am.

"Well then, your hands are cold."
After the obligatory annual rewatch of Pride and Prejudice my father asked me: "Why does Lizzy tell Mr Darcy that his hands are cold after he confesses his love to her again?"
Tumblr media
And I didn't know how to answer that - UNTIL. I. REALISED.
WILD GUESS, but if I recall correctly from my limited experience of 21 years on planet earth, your hands get cold when you are anxious about something or nervous or what not (excluding the cases of external temperature change or sickness, we are talking pure emotions here).
Now watch this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout the movie there are 3 deliberate closeups on Darcy's hands before the climax, all of which occur in immediate proximity to Lizzy. And I cannot help but notice, without wanting connect one with the other right on the nose...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...look at his hands! He is SO. NERVOUS. around her it makes me wanna scream and giggle and cry-
Now, I hope it is not too bold of me to assume, but...
...I mean you clearly see where this is going...
When he helped her onto the carriage...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...when they were dancing, when they finally meet on the field at dawn.
You put everything together and you've got your answer.
So, what's my theory? Darcy's hands have been cold all this time when we see him around Lizzy. And Lizzy has been paying attention.
That's it. That's the juice.
You may go on with your normal life now while as you still can.
Pls tell me someone else figured this out before me and I am just late to the party.

Polar Express
I feel like I have to preface this with a disclaimer. Yes I know that Santa is a hot topic among Christians. No, I am not insinuating that Santa = Jesus in any sense. Please don’t misunderstand this post. Read the full way through and I hope you’ll see what I’m getting at.
The movie The Polar Express has some amazing spiritual parallels that I hope to fully write about one day. I took notes on my phone when my family did our annual rewatch this year.
But what strikes me every year is the scene where the Boy meets Santa at the end. If you haven’t seen that scene, you should watch it. It is completely magical, for one, and second, I think it reflects an inherent longing for Jesus.
Notes from the scene:
• Great build up of anticipation. They get Santa’s sleigh ready. Every elf from the North Pole gathers to see Santa’s big entrance on Christmas Eve. There must be ten thousand of them. They bring out the harnesses for the reindeer and hook them up to the sleigh. The elves are singing. The reindeer are rearing to go.
• There’s a trumpet fanfare. And then the elves, all together, start singing Verse 1 of “Santa Claus is coming to town.” They start in a billion different keys but as the “camera” zooms out and across the huge multitude, they’re all in one key in general. And then they scream the last part, “SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN!!!”
• and the enormous doors open, and you see Santa’s shadow.
• and of course, everyone is going nuts. The kids from the train are seeing this guy who they’ve heard stories of their entire life, and now he’s standing in front of them.
• the whole “I believe” scene for the Boy happens, which is incredibly impactful but I won’t get into in this post
• the Boy sees Santa’s reflection in the bell, and he turns around, and lo and behold
• Santa… is glowing. He has this very soft light coming from his figure. He’s got this deep, rich voice (yes I know it’s Tom Hanks, don’t @ me)
• Santa talks to each of the protagonists. The kids are all pretty intimidated and star-struck (except Know-It-All, but he’s a special case).
• Santa gives a word of wisdom to 3 kids before he gets to the Boy and declares that the first gift of Christmas will go to him. • and now the part that strikes me every time. Santa goes and sits in his chair in the sleigh, and he beckons to the Boy, and the Boy is very clearly intimidated and sheepish and humble about going.
• and so he gets up to the sleigh and to Santa, and Santa, just to him, says, “Now… what would you like for Christmas?” And the Boy basically whispers it in his ear. And it’s just a really sweet personal moment.
Ok so where am I going with this?
This scene always is Revelation coded to me. The anticipation of everyone singing and celebrating and straining to get a glimpse of this person they’ve been taught about their entire lives and have believed in but have never seen (if there’s a central meaning to this movie, it’s “sometimes believing is seeing).
And so he comes out, and there’s more music and celebration and everyone is going nuts, and this entire celebration is about ONE person. They're even singing a song about him.
And then the parts that aren’t specifically Revelation but are important anyway: the Boy, who has struggled with doubts the entire movie, is struggling again. He realizes he can’t hear the bells or see Santa because he hasn’t believed. So he makes a conscious effort to believe, and as he does, Santa overhears him.
And Santa is animated to look so regal but also warm and welcoming. He talks to each of the kids like he knows them personally (“He sees you when you’re sleeping” and all that jazz) and he offers them a word of wisdom for their current journeys.
Santa doesn’t choose the girl who’s become a strong leader throughout the movie. He certainly doesn’t choose the obnoxious and prideful one. He doesn’t even choose the one who is nervous around his new friends and has (it’s implied) had sad Christmases in the past.
No. He chooses to give the first gift of Christmas to the boy who moments before didn’t fully believe in him.
That’s mercy-coded, I think.
He rewards his “faith,” essentially, and chooses the struggling one out of the whole mix.
But how like our Jesus to choose the least and the lost and the weak and the doubting?
How like our Jesus to know each of our stories personally? And know exactly what we need to hear?
How like our Jesus to be regal and glorious but also warm and personal and inviting?
How like our Jesus to be celebrated by all and to have his followers straining to catch even a glimpse of Him?
And just, the way the Boy is so sheepish and nervous, and how Santa beckons to him and welcomes him, and how he whispers to him…
I honestly doubt that the story writers intended this to be a spiritual parallel.
But it is SO STRONG to me that I wonder if this scene didn’t come out of some longing in the human heart for Jesus.
Yes, they got it wrong. All this fanfare for Santa. Making Santa seem wise and loving and tender and compassionate and merciful. But does that not come from a longing in our hearts to have someone in our lives like that?
Humans were made to worship God. To enjoy God. To glorify God and to reflect God. And I think there’s an part of us all deep down that longs to see Glory, and a part of us that deep down wants to have a warm, regal, wise, loving, figure like this. There’s a part of us that wants to experience a being so glorious that he’s almost intimidating, but who is also tender and welcoming. There’s a part of us that wants to be beckoned to, welcomed, and spoken to intimately, as if we were the only person in the entire North Pole who was being spoken to at that moment.
I think this movie proves what my pastor said at our Christmas service at church tonight: “All humans have a God-shaped hole in their hearts.”
And I think this movie makes it blatantly obvious that that desire—that longing—is there in everyone. We just don’t recognize it for what it is—or Who would fill it, if we let Him.
Stay tuned, at some point, maybe even in future years, I will write more on this movie 😂

Halo and Ice have their annual meeting to rewatch Pride and Prejudice together. It doesn't matter what Ice has to do—meeting with the President, with generals, cadets, and sometimes even his husband—on the 23rd of January, they are going to sit on the couch to watch the movie. Hot chocolate, a slice of cake, and repeating the lines all along.
(More than once, Nat and Maverick got back from their annual "we can't stay home this afternoon because they absolutely didn't kick us out" trip only to find their spouses dancing around the living room on some violin music they still couldn't recognise after all those years.)

tagged by @skyeventide & @lulukeskywalker in two variations of the little ask meme so i'm putting them together! thank you both!! 8]
favorite color: indigo! but there's no shade of purple or almost-purple that doesn't land for me.
currently reading: (fanfic:) up next on my fic to-read list is @quixoticanarchy & @bloodwingblackbird's TRSB work, The knife that shapes the knife (accompanying craftwork on view here). a collab from immensely imaginative creatives (and both formidable writers in fact)! my favorite kinds of fic in this fandom are those that unflinchingly embrace and grapple with the canon through worldbuilding & characterization -- the sort where you're left inspired by canon's possibility, and convinced. does that make sense! i find asterisq's writing has that kind of finesse for me, so i'm excited to read!
(not fanfic:) still floundering in the bog of PhD-sanctioned material, but I've also begun Mahir Güven's Older Brother/Grand frère thanks to esteemed and excellent taste haver @thefashbasher. It's riveting; the narrative voices are so raw, urgent, and alive. You just want each chapter turned into a monologue and performed onstage.
last song: Wagner's Tristan und Isolde Act 1 Prelude, stuck in my head after i looked out the window and saw Venus burning in the night sky (Lars von Trier Melancholia viewers, you hear me)
last series: i'm finishing the annual X-Files rewatch but otherwise i'm no consummate tv watcher! On my 'tv to watch eventually' list, IWTV retains pride of place.
sweet, savory, or spicy? Sweet, for ever.
currently working on: for now, poetry is commanding my very limited creative writing time -- and quite unexpectedly i've also just begun dabbling in podfic?! i'm working to establish by the next week or so if this term will grant me more time for undertakings like fanfic or if my little sandcastle is about to crumble!!
no-pressure tagging @dulaman-na-farraige , @batshape , @aipilosse , @rosedaughter , @thefashbasher , @tobermoriansass , @nyenyerle , @findekano -- i could go on because i'm nosy but suffice to say: anyone who so feels compelled: consider yourself tagged!

Ep 4 Wrap Up
Tumblr media
Hello, lovies! Welcome back to the Great Produce48 Recap Rewatch-a-ma-whoozit! In the previous post, we covered the Very Very teams. In this post, I’ll be wrapping up episode 4 and giving you some general thoughts about the challenge mission in the form of my first annual BRAPPY Awards! Let’s do it!
Seungki gathers the girls together now that the audience has left, in order to give them the results of the on-site vote. Seungki quizzes a few girls is the audience at quasi-random to re-establish the rules -- that 58th is the cut off point, and that if you don’t make it within that range, “you can’t practice here anymore.” I think that’s a comparatively kind way to put it.
This is basically a pointless exercise that they’re going through right now, though. They rank the girls solely by their voting for tonight, including the 1000 point benefit. There is literally no point to it, since this ranking has no impact on the rest of their life, except their pride. We find out that poor AleXa came in dead last, with flat-tummied Hwang Soyeon just above her.
Tumblr media
AleXa takes it pretty well -- she knew how low she scored, so she was ready for this.
Tumblr media
Poor Soyeon. She’s so good, and I think she’s pretty. I don’t get it.
Lee Chaeyeon voice overs, “The Japanese members are celebrities, and Koreans are trainees. So there was a gap.”
Was there? Let me get out my spreadsheet. *cracks knuckles*
Hmm. The Japanese members had an average of 85.3 votes per trainee. The members signed to Korean agencies had an average of 59.0 votes per trainee. The overall average was 69, because there are more Korean members. So yes, there was a huge gap.
The show goes on revealing the "final ranking" from the night, but it's so annoying, since all the votes were based on their immediate competition among those 10-12 girls, so it’s especially meaningless.
Anyway, here’s the top 12 -- just looking at it reminds you that this is dumb, since we know these aren’t the 12 most popular girls on the show.
Trainee /// Song she did /// votes she got
12. Kojima Mako    ///       Short Hair 1       ///       120 11. Murase Sae      ///       Mamma Mia 1    ///       138 11. Kim Hyunah      ///     Mamma Mia 1 /// 138 9. Asai Nanami   ///           Boombayah 2 /// 144 8. Lee Sian           ///         Short Hair 2     ///       148 7. Jo Yuri      ///                 Short Hair 1     ///       152 6. Cho Ahyeong        ///     High Tension 2 /// 160 5. Miyawaki Sakura   ///     Very Very 2          ///   164 4. Goto Moe      ///         Like Ooh Ahh 1 /// 172 3. Huh Yunjin      ///       High Tension 2 /// 188 2. Ko Yujin        ///     Boombayah 1        ///     198 1. Yabuki Nako /// Love Whisper 2 /// 330
Fun fact: Only three of these girls make it into IZ*one, and, extra fun (or not fun at all?), one of these 12 girls gets eliminated in the very next episode!
This is so dumb.
Seungki interviews Nako about her overwhelming victory, and she says she still can’t believe it. (You can see that she has a small earpiece in her ear for translation purposes.)
Tumblr media
It’s almost as if she was really good and also was in a matchup with mostly weaker members….? Hilariously, she says “I’ll try my best to be in a higher rank next time.” Nako? Sweetie? You were in first place. I think it’s ok to not strive to do even better than that. Cutely, she adds a Korean “thank you!” at the end.
Then the show does a dumb thing where it adds the 1000 vote benefit into the votes to see how things change in the ranking, and it’s pointless AF. Seungki reminds them that the first ranking announcement will be next week, and that's when they'll "release" about a third of the girls.
Ok, so that’s the end of episode 4.
Time for my general thoughts on the challenge mission!
My main thought is: None of the performances were actually horrifically bad. Even Hellbayah was watchable in its own way. Vocally, nearly everyone sounded notably better than they even had before, making me wonder if there was some processing being done to the vocals for everyone. Dance-wise, the camera hid a lot of the choreo, so it's impossible to know. In the end, I had to base a lot of my differential off of stage presence, which is tough since it's so subjective.
I think that so much of it was decided the moment that certain teams were formed and certain teams got certain songs. Having Nako sing Love Whisper? Match made in heaven. Putting Chiba Erii in Boombayah? Match made in hell.
I wish I had the energy to go through and look at each group and think, which song should this group of 5-6 girls have done? But alas, I do not. I welcome your thoughts, if you have them!
The First Annual BRAPPIES
And now, for the first Brappies, the award that BPR-Unnie gives out starting now, after each challenge mission. Be aware that as I type this, I’ve had a headache for about two weeks and it’s making me just a tiny bit cranky. Ok, here goes!
Group who the stylist unnies hated the most:
I give this to Peekaboo 2.
Tumblr media
Ugh, those translucent control top thigh highs!
Group who it just looks like they forgot to put on pants:
Obviously, Short Hair (both teams)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm unlikely to use this category again, but it had to be said.
Group that cried the most:
I’m tempted to say it’s a 15-way tie between most of them, but I have to give it to Love Whisper 1, whose leader, Eunchae, actually cried during the ending fairy.
Tumblr media
Group that seemed to have the most fun:
Very Very, Red team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most deserved win:
Love Whisper 2.
Tumblr media
I’m giving it to them since, other than the Boombayah teams, there was no other match up where the winner felt quite so obvious to me.
Least deserved win:
Hellbayah. Obviously.
Tumblr media
It’s infuriating that this performance won.
Best leader:
From what we could see, that goes to Haeyoon (Cherry Bullet) from Like Ooh Ah, who not only mothered her own team, but also had time to mother the other team, who had the worst leader (Park Seoyoung). She also is apparently fluent in Japanese.
Tumblr media
Honorable mention: Miyu from High Tension, who was smart enough to know that they should have Huh Yunjin as their center, and did a great job as main vocal, to boot.
Worst leader:
I have to give this to Park Seoyoung. She didn't seem to take the time constraints seriously enough, so didn't push her team appropriately. She also didn't seem that great at teaching the dancing, which is one of the things a leader should either be able to do, or be able to delegate well. She should have made little Haeun the dance captain and gone from there, to avoid a feeling of a power struggle. She seems like a really sweet girl, actually, and as I've said before, AleXa is friends with her to this day and that says a lot. But she just isn't really cut out to be leader.
Most put-upon leader:
Han Chowon from Hellbayah. She obviously did an extraordinary job considering her situation.
Biggest discovery:
Tumblr media
Yoon Haesol, main vocal of High Tension 1. I’d been completely unaware of her up until this point. Her audition, Question Mark, wasn’t aired -- all we saw of her was starting her audition in the wrong key and needing to start over.  All I had said about her audition was that she did pretty well, but this performance really impressed me. So, good for you, Haesol.
Trainee who “won” the night
Tumblr media
Huh Yunjin.
Tumblr media
I say she won the night because before this episode, she wasn’t really seen as a front runner, and afterward, she really was. There are events to come that will drag her down a bit, but I think she earned her spot on Le Sserafim with this performance. She definitely won my heart the first time I was watching. So, congrats, Jennifer! You killed it. But you know that, right?
Trainee who “lost” the night:
In some ways, this award should go to just about anyone who the edit ignored completely despite them doing good stuff, like fantastic singer and leader Miyu from the winning High Tension group, or any of the innumerable other trainees with no stage time. But I have to give this award to Jang Gyuri.
Tumblr media
She had her tiny tiny vocal mistake built up to over the course of two episodes and then replayed thirteen fucking times. Meanwhile if you watch her fancam, you might actually gain some respect for her lovely vocal color.
So, that’s a wrap for right now.  I’m going to check out Build Up for a bit and we’ll see how that goes, and I’ll finish these recaps when the time is right. See you soon!

I haven't seen Gerwig's Little Women, why is it bad?
First off, it's not something that really needed another adaption, which I find annoying personally. It would be like someone making another Pride & Prejudice. At some point it's like why are you making the SAME film. Again. On top of that, everyone thinks she made it more feminist and the acting is oscar worthy, and it's really not. like people were so focused on the fashion too and it wasn't accurate, and the inaccuracies did nothing for the film itself. like oh Jo March in trousers!!!!! Okay. That didn't save how the film was boring and fell flat. Which is crazy because the 1994 film is still an annual Christmas time rewatch in my house at least.

Sweet/savory/spicy: savory primarily (outside of chocolate) but I think almost everything should have a low level of spicy to be truly enjoyable
Currently working on: finding a house to BUY, its so hard and my area is so expensive
(Can you tell I only consume comfort media)
