2023 Goals
Find joy in teaching again. I love parts of my job but there are days when it's just hard. And I want to more consistently find joy within the four walls of my classroom with my students present.
Learn how to mom. I'm not going to be amazing at it and that isn't my goal, but I want to be better than meh. I want to make the best choices I can for my children - whatever that looks like.
Rediscover my passions and interests and continue to work on them. I know that's going to be difficult with newborn/infant twins, but I think it's important especially to set an example for my kids.
Accept help and support. There are people who want to be here and who want to support and I have to stop defaulting so much to, 'I'm good.'
Budget and budget well.

I managed to read four books within the last week of October :-] slowing down a bit and setting a goal of five books by the end of this month ... mainly because i want to read longer texts and a few more classics, and i prefer taking my time with those books

Let's look at these goals and reflect a bit:
Science baby happened. And just like I predicted, technically happening in 2023, but successful attempt.
Working out didn't happen with any sort of regularity. Working two jobs this entire year was incredibly difficult and a lot of days I worked, ate, and slept.
I kinda developed new habits, especially around the way I fuel my body. That's especially been true n the last 5 months. I started and then abandoned habits about cleaning/keeping a functional space, but that's going to remain a goal for 2023.
I didn't do nearly enough things I enjoy. I spent a lot of this year feeling like I was barely keeping my head above water.
Nope, definitely, no opinion voicing.
Tenure happened! Freaking finally.
Kinda? I bought furniture at least and I've made a start at decorating and I continue to refine spaces.
Nope, definitely not. But now I have a plan and a timeline for how so that's going to stay a goal for 2023.
I've never really done resolutions for the coming year. But I can do things I want in 2022.
I want science baby to happen. Technically based on the timeline as it stands right now, that's not really really likely until 2023, but I want IVF to be successful in 2022.
Workout in some capacity 3-5 days a week. Moving my body makes me feel really good and I didn't do it all that often in 2021.
Develop new habits - particularly around the way I fuel my body and around cleaning/keeping a functional space
Do things I enjoy (make art/craft, write).
Actually voice my opinion (at both jobs)
TENURE - it's been a hell of a long time coming.
Decorate my house (yes, I'm aware that this is like years in the making and yet I still haven't)
Significantly pay down my debt (except science baby-related debt because obviously that's just getting started anew)

Anyway, since the death of Finale has brought me back to this blog, I'll give an update: I let myself slide :/
It's not a huge deal, or at least, I'm not making a huge deal of it. I figure I'm allowed a break every once in a while, and sometimes that break will end up lasting a few months. It's okay. I want my weekly goals to be something I can feel comfortable picking up again after I've not done them for a while. The whole point of all of this is no guilt. Guilt is the creativity-killer.
But in fact, both last week and this week, I have met my weekly goal (which, as a reminder, is literally just to do one thing, any one thing, related to composition or furthering my composing career during the week). I've started on a new choral piece! We're still very early in the process, but I like the melodic ideas I have so far, and I've got a good overall sense of what the form looks like.
As for monthly goals, I think I've decided to let that go for the year. Trying to keep up with that was starting to stress me out. I'd still like to do more tiktok collabs and stock music projects, but for right now, I'm not putting that on a timeline.
Still no word on codename canticum antiquum, and I'm starting to worry about that again. The new season of symphony chorus will be starting soon, so either I'll hear something by then, or it might be time to send another polite inquiry.
And finally, I'm just starting to think about gearing up for Notevember again. Last year, I came up with the prompt list by playing around with online random word generators while bored at work, and that technique worked pretty well. Not every word that comes up is a good music prompt, but eventually you end up with a good number of words that are. Seems like it's about time to get going on that. Also, I have to decide if I want to change the Notevember logo. I feel like it should be at least a little different in some way. Maybe it should be colorful this time? Much to consider...

Vil, with the new year coming up, do you have any particular goals you're looking to accomplish?
Other than being the most beautiful in all of Twisted Wonderland?
I would say landing a film role that isn't antagonistic, preferably something unlike anything I've done before, replacing the last of my essential makeup products with ones that I have developed myself, and perhaps finally deadlifting 2.5 times my body weight. They say 1.5 is impressive enough, but if that's the case then I only consider that meeting expectations.

I'm gonna be so fr with yall, I am never going to signal boost a gfm that contains guilt tripping. "I'm god's specialest little angel, and NO ONE is sending ME money even though i really need it. You hate me? You hate me and you want me to die?"
I'm not spreading that shit to my friends bro
