Lon returns from an expedition with a new wife in tow‚ much to the chagrin of Ankers' deliciously venomous woman#spurned; cue much skullduggery and potential voodoo among the campus set. it's undeniably silly but it's a good time and at an hour#long doesn't outstay any welcome. the treatment of voodoo is relatively non condescending (at least for a 1944 film) and the plot#zips along with multiple fatalities and a wonderfully nasty ending. good old Lon‚ he always has such a tough time in these films#Karloff did tragedy and madness well‚ Lugosi evil and seductiveness‚ but if you need someone to have a dreadful time#and look like a big sad wet cat then Lon is the go to guy every time
