When people say it's okay to like something but you need to "be normal about" it it's because the person they are talking to is being wildly inappropriate.

Examples of where I always see this topic come up in:

Ex #1 *Beautiful trans woman uploads selfie*

How people who think they're being supportive of trans women on the internet respond:

"Oh my God trans women are so fucken sexy! I want that girl cock inside of me! Cis woman could never! How could anyone not want to fuck a trans woman?"

These are not compliments, they are creepy inappropriate responses to give to a stranger on the internet. It also encourages people to put their fetish for trans women on full blast. Is not the same thing as being a trans Ally even if the people making the sexual harassment comments are trans themselves.

Ex #2 a black woman is minding her own business going to work or class.

White coworkers and/or classmates:

"Yas Queen! I see you! You are so thiccc ( this also happens too skinny and far from thiccc black women)! Teach me how to twerk. I want you to step on me! Crush me with your thick thighs! I love black women! Way better than white women!"

These are not compliments! It is racial fetishization and it's not even subtle. Although this does happen a lot online, unfortunately the behavior is not limited to the internet, there are various articles, books, and video essays that talk about sexual harassment black women face in real life. I strongly recommend looking into them. Keep in mind finding someone who is Black physically attractive and then believing that black people are the only sexy people in the world are NOT the same thing.

Ex #3 * A Japanese American person is just existing*

Some random stranger who sees them:

"Do you speak english! Your English is so good when did you come to this country! OMG are you are from japan? I think Japanese people are so hot 😍 but only Japanese people, not filipino's or whatever else there is. Can you say me love you long time? I love anime! I grew up watching Dragon Balls and Sailor Moon on toonami! Want to hear me pronounce the five Japanese words I know! I can use chopsticks! I have a bunch of katanas in my room and I've already chosen my Japanese name for when I go to live in Japan for a year. You don't speak Japanese or know anything about Japanese culture because you're a 5th gen american? I'm more Japanese than you are lol! I want to have your babies. I want you to have my babies!"

This also goes into the same problem of racial fetishization that was mentioned above. There is also the problem with the model minority myth that I know white people are less familiar with. You can find various books written on the subjects I'm not even going to get into it. It is important to keep in mind that white people favor Japanese people more than any other Asian ethnicity and there is a historic racist reason for that. Obviously yes you're allowed to like anime, Japanese musicians, ramen, video games, and kimonos. The problem is being a fucken weebo in front of Japanese people in real life who do not share the same interest as you and you assume they do because they're japanese.

Ex #4 blatant Erasure of disabled people and their needs by people who claim to be Disability Advocates. Whether we're talking about physically disabled people or people with cognitive handicaps, everyone including other disabled people love to erase their existence or downplay them.

It's claiming that the term disabled is "ableist" and Society needs to refer to people with handicaps as being "differently abled" ( which honestly is a lot more insulting) or telling neurodivergent people that "there is nothing wrong with you. You are perfectly beautiful as you are" ableism is alive and well especially within disabled spaces. As I've mentioned countless times I no longer go into the neurodivergent tags on Tumblr because I cannot stand the ableism from other neurodivergent people in them.

People will Pat themselves on the back believing that they are an advocate for disability rights will at the same time trying to roll back disabled activism by decades. I see way too many people encourage others to throw their meds away without telling their family what they are doing because they damper personality and spirit. Never mind the fact that those are literal life-saving meds somebody needs to be on and that person A is not person B's doctor. Random High school students on social media who believes they know more than an actual qualified doctor with a PhD who has met the patient in person and has been working with them on a treatment plan. But sure the stranger on Tumblr knows more about everything. Take a look at all the people who are now in their twenties who blame social media and specific movements for keeping them depressed for years. Who talk about how they tried to commit suicide specifically because of this group that they thought would lift them up but ended up enabling them to become the worst version of themselves. The mantra "Stay angry" made them think that if they sought help for their disorder, they would be falling in line with the status quo.

I've seen it countless times on Tumblr where someone will talk about how they are a paranoid schizophrenic who decided to go off their meds without telling anyone because they don't want to be controlled by big pharma. Rather than people voicing their concern and try to encourage them to speak with their doctor about it, strangers on the internet applaud them and tell them they are doing great at taking charge of Their Own life. 5 months later that same person is depressed, homeless, and cannot figure out why. People tell them that it's all society's fault for letting them down, never mind the fact that they encourage them to go off their meds in the first place.

When people say to "be normal about something", they're not saying that you need to fall in line with all the other robots in society. They are saying that you need to check yourself and your behaviors when it comes to a specific subject.

You don't have to "be normal about" anything, you just gotta try to be kind about it

His limbs are oober long but like his ankles look thiccc like damn. Hes probably wearing books but why so thick? Hes running and jumping and kicking ass hed need to wear tight boots that keep his ankles set correctly even if broken.

This is the story of my first love

(Warning! Very long story, sorry,) Summer of 2018, I’m 14 years old, fresh outta grade 9. I’m short (5,2), blue eyes, semi long blond hair, chubby face, really pointy nose, I think I’m the fuglyest troll that ever lived, very low self esteem. Hopeless romantic. I had a crush on practically any boy that ever looked at me but they never liked me back because I’m a troll. One day, last day of grade 9 my friend Dany invites me into this truth or dare circle with a bunch of people I’ve never met before. I hate truth or dare but whatever, I play anyway. A few days later school is out and I go with some girls to a coffee shop for a book club get together, it takes an hour or so and I start walking home but I realize that my friend Dany and that group of people is at the beach so I head over there. I sit down at a round, stone table at the beach with these people I don’t know and they’re playing never have I ever and they’re all soping wet and shivering, one guy didn’t have a bathing suit and went into the water in his jeans 👖. We play never have I ever for a bit and I feel a little uncomfortable because I didn’t know everybody, I knew Dany, this girl named Hannah that was in my gym class, a guy named Landen that I had socials with and a girl named Sofía that I had English with. The group decided to go to KFC or Dairy Queen or something because they were hungry. I was still a little out of place because Dany was hanging out with everyone else and I wasn’t close with anybody else there. Let me introduce the crew, there’s Dany, my best friend, tall, a hot mess, long, curly, dyed, blonde hair, high heels, never wears the same outfit twice, the sweetest person I’ve ever met (the drunk mom friend). Gage, also known as Gageriel, VERY tall boi (6,1), has been hit by a car 7 times, does dumb shit for entertainment like eating things he shouldn’t, very kind and lovable, is 15 but looks 19 (father/big brother friend). Sofía, dating Gage, short like me, always wears yellow, blue and red, Colombian, long black hair, has bangs, also very nice 👍🏼(Responseable older sister friend). Rehgan, lonely, bisexual, medium height, biiiggg boobs, thiccc, beautiful💙, funny and truly wonderful(gay friend🏳️‍🌈). Bryce, only one hand, kinda short, forget what ethnicity but brown skin, short black hair, chubby, a little mean sometimes, tried a little hard to be funny, had a crush on me. Ryan, pouch boii, (5,11) decently tall, a little chubbyer, nice, always buying other people food. Hannah, short-ish, kinda sluty but that’s ok, loves Kurt Cobane, emo, smokes weed and drinks, (Party animal friend). Bond, Landen Bond, stoner kid, skateboards, emo, heavy metal, emotional, was dating Hannah but they broke up(stoner friend). And last but definitely not least, Oskar, wet jeans boy👖, I had a big ol crush on this boy, brown eyes, (5,7 or something), brown semi-emo hair, super funny, emo, great person.

All these people are emo, depressed, anxious, and really quite fun to be around. Socialy awkward geeks, I fit right in. We started going to the beach every Tuesday, except Hannah and Landen and Ryan weren’t around most of the summer. The first beach day was one of the best but not really important to the story except for Dany kissing Oskar for a dare (his first kiss), I ,of course, was jealous because I liked him. Around 8pm it was only me, Gage, Dany and Oskar siting at a bench watching the sun go down, it was blinding but beautiful. Dany and Oskar talked while I just kinda sat there and listened because I didn’t have anything to say and I was nervous because I liked Oskar. Later that night I told Dany I liked him and she felt really bad about kissing him. Dany decided to help me make a plan to get Oskar to fall for me. We all hung out every Tuesday. My plan had begun, I was texting with Oskar every single day, two weeks straight. Sitting next to my phone for hours waiting for his response. A little too crazy about him. Trying to figure out everything about him which only made me like him more because he’s just amazing. We got to know each other pretty damn well, my plan was going incredibly well. On the 13th of July, Dany had a mental breakdown and was smashing plates and thinking about suicide, I did what I thought was the only option, go to her, I got on the next buss and tried ever so desperately to get to her before something could go wrong, it was incredibly stressful and for a while I was afraid that I might lose my best friend. I got on the wrong fucking buss, then, when I was in the middle of nowhere, got off the buss and my phone died. I saw a beacon of hope in the distance, a Dairy Queen, I walked for what felt like forever in the scorching heat to this Dairy Queen and thank the lord, I had a phone charger, I texted Dany the second my phone turned on and she and her mom came to rescue me. She was safe and everything was ok. We went to the beach and then I went to her house to have a sleepover and make sure she was ok. At around 10:30pm, Dany and I were watching A Street Cat Named Bob (a wonderful movie, I highly recommend) and I was texting Oskar. It went a little bit like this, “yes” “yep” “indeed” “undoubtedly” “of course Osmar” “of course Violet” “I have a crush on you”. The second I sent the last text I threw my phone across the room and screamed and hugged a pillow. Dany was obviously confused and concerned, I didn’t say anything I just got up and showed her my texts. She was shocked and I threw my phone again and decided that I would wait until the next day to see what he said. I couldn’t sleep, I was so anxious that he would find me revolting and turn me down right away or like someone else. I was also anxious because I knew my friend Rehgan also liked Oskar. When I woke up, it was 6am, I layed there and thought of all the possibilities, every way it could go completely wrong, I could have just waisted two whole weeks getting to know someone that doesn’t even like me that way. 2 hours later, 8am, I go and check my phone and I was very undewelmed. All he said was “Crush as in crush?” Wtf yes crush. An hour or so later I was on the couch while Dany made me food and he texted me saying “I’m awkward as fuck sorry” “it’s ok to be awkward, I am also awkward” “I feel the same way, as in the crush thing” I froze, it was the most insane thing I had ever witnessed. I started shaking and yelling “DANY DANY DANY DANY DANY” I showed her the phone. I was so incredibly excited and happy and terrified. My heart was beating a million miles a minute. “Do you want to hang out today?” That’s where it all began.

GLITCHTALE: Undertale but it’s an anime (I’m not even joking). Written and animated by @/camilaart, aka Camila Cuevas on YouTube, sound by Strelock Audio Design, and music by the incredible @/nyxtheshield, along with a few other guests as the series goes along! It’s an animated series on YouTube, and although Season 1 looks absolutely terrible, the art reaches god-tier in Season 2. The plot is really well thought out as well, taking the idea of resets and creating consequences for them. Season 1 main cast included Sans, Frisk, Chara, Flowey, and Gaster. Season 2 main cast is pretty much everyone lol. (Heads up: Camila’s first language is Spanish, so some sentences are worded a bit odd. Her English gets better as the series progresses, and it’s never so bad that you can’t understand it. She’s actually really good!)

AFTERTALE: This one is a comic by @/loverofpiggies, aka Crayon Queen! This one stars Sans, Paps, The Human, and... Sans? I can’t really explain too much because this is another plot-driven one that gets complicated and intense really quickly, but basically Sans wakes from a nightmare about himself dying, and Paps comes to help calm him down. then today is the day! A human shows up in Snowdin, goofy hyjinx ensue, Sans is lazy, and he has trust issues because of his nightmare! Yay! :D That’s literally the beginning and I cannot tell you anything more than that. It’s one of my favorite Undertale AUs please read this one if nothing else. (There is light swearing, but pretty few and far in-between).

DOGS OF FUTURE PAST: This one is written by @/lynxgriffin! It takes place after monsters have returned to the surface. It’s been a while so I don’t remember how it starts, but the central plot is that Frisk wants to bring Gaster back and travels back in time to do it! UNDERVERSE / XTALE: This is another animated series on YouTube, done by @/jakei95! Music and sound by the same peeps working on Glitchtale! This one takes alternate Sanses already existing in the fandom and throws them together. We follow Sans Classic (from the actual game) as he enjoys a True Pacifist run that gets interrupted when another version of The Human steals half of his soul. This Human turns out to be half of another Sans, the two of them forced to share a body, but with Sans’ soul, this version of Sans- named Cross- can stay in control. His goal: to fix his AU, which was destroyed, piece by piece. The opening title for the AU mashup shows which AUs you’ll need to know going in. If you don’t watch this one, please at least listen to the soundtrack. The thing bops I tell you. X-tale is Cross’ home AU, for which there is a comic for. It’s also getting animated now while we wait for Season 2 to begin. (Heads up: Jael also does not have English as a first language, but instead, speaks Spanish. Her English is also really good though, so don’t worry!)

ENDERTALE: This one is currently on hiatus, but creator @/xxtc-96xx has gone on record to say they’ll get back to it soon! This one follows Frisk after a True Pacifist ending, going along for some Frisk/Asriel bonding time, team attacks with Undyne and Papyrus, The Great Papyrus Being the Great Papyrus, Paps/Sans bonding time, and, of course, plot and humor! The characterizations here are great and I adore this one to no end. Lots of dubs on YouTube!

OVER THE VOID: Hoooooly crap this one is so much fun. Created by @/absolutedream. Frisk/Asriel sibling bonding time, BFF Monster Kid swooping in for the win. An AU inside an AU. It’s just so good and creative.

UT AU and Comic Recommendations?

Sometimes I’m just in a mood and would like cheering up idk. I’m new to the Undertale Fandom, so I’m wondering what AUs to look at? I’m not into any shipping (except Undyne/Alphys, the Hotland Guards, and Toriel/Asgore), so I mostly want to see platonic relationships (and please please no pedophilia or smut).

I especially love Sans, and Sans and Papyrus brotherly bonding. Just, things to make my heart warm. All characters (NPCs included) are great! Plot-driven or one-shots are both great! Completed and in-progress are both great! Dubs, animations, comics, illustrations, and more are all great! Tumblr and YouTube preferred. I’m alright with blood. Swearing I’m meh about, but also don’t mind.
