Is it just me, or does anyone else think they look like a cross between a Fox and a Deer? . . A modern challenge faced by the Jackal is ' the human problem' There's been an increase in habitat loss. More roads. More houses. Industrialisation. Unsustainable agriculture. No wonder they are close to human settlements. So 'naturally' they are killed as pests to protect homes and livestock, and feared as rabies transmitters. . . Today's research came from the African Wildlife Foundation Website. There's lots of interesting stuff to read on there if you are interested in learning more about Jackals or other Wildlife Conservation. . . . Quick Lion Drawing Pick me Up Today . Today I've spent most of the day researching how to improve my Etsy shop. I have no visibility on there and was going for the bury my head in the sand technique while I busied myself setting up a Folksy shop... But it's about time I start rebuilding and improving. . . Something that often surprises people... I hate hate hate computers. I'd happily live without one. Preferably in a treehouse in the woods... with a clearing that i can grow veg in. And no people bar via appointment... (not that ive given it much thought) . So when I know I need to get computer work done I try to plan in nice little jobs inbetween. . So today I've planted potatoes. Spinach. And cauliflower. . Read the next chapter of my book . Sat away from the desk to eat soup and homemade flatbread. . Gave the dog a bath . -Animal Alphabet- FIVER FRIDAY Its that time of the week again, and we have now but 'H' is for Hedgehog. . . Meet Rusty . . This week was a tricky one, partly in choosing the animal (So many good choices for 'H') but also in execution. Really looking at a Hedgehog I found they look a lot different to what I've always imagined them in my head. I also made it extra hard by experimenting with Rust in this piece. . . The deep orange background was achieved by painting a rust and Vinegar wash on paper. It does make the paper slightly resistant to the next layers and the texture makes me cringe a bit... It's deffineately a technique that merits further experimentation . . If this is your first time stumbling upon my Animal Alphabet. Ive justed finished drawing this week's letter in the animal alphabet. We've now reached 'G' is for Greyhound! . . If this is your first time coming accross my animal alphabet, every Friday I'm drawing the next letter and the original illustration will be available as a special #fiverfridaydeal . . Growing up we had a Greyhound called lady, I learnt to walk by pulling myself up holding her collar, and walking along side her. She was an ex racing dog, with a number tattooed inside her ear. She was terrified of you closed a door on her, and if you let her off the lead, racing was so engrained in her that she would only ever run in circles. . . I've gone very abstract this week. I wanted her to be blooming our of the flowers, and I've almost got the effect I had in my mind's eye. . . Created using pilot biro, this drawing is A5 sized.
