Nine didn't expect this neighborhood to be so inviting towards seemingly wild animals when he first arrived. He always made it a habit to never shift anywhere close to his own apartment, ensuring that his secret was secured. When he started to follow Kate around, he did not expect to form such a friendship with her. Most humans did not feel comfortable with creatures that did not look like the pet foxes that social media popularized. Yet here they were; time had flown by, and Nine had made it a habit to visit her all so often, accepting the free snacks and, most of all, the gentle pats and attention. He did not see anything wrong with acting a little like that; it wasn't as if he belonged to any group of shapeshifters, he had always been on his own.

That did not mean there wasn't a little bit of guilt for listening to her confide in him with all of her thoughts and experiences of long days while not being all that sincere in return. He had been considering for a while now that maybe it was time to 'show' her, but human minds did not exactly deal well with the information that they were not the only creatures out there. The fox made a soft noise, looking up at her from the couch with knowing golden eyes as she kept on talking. Maybe he would do it once she walked out of the room? He was finding excuses not to, wasn't he?

Irene has a cat familiar named Fanny (short for Francine). Yes, she is British, yes she knows the context of Fanny in England. Her exact reasoning was, and I quote, was: “They’re called pussycats for a reason, aren’t they?”

Fanny is a bit of a sourpuss and tends to hiss at strangers. She takes a while to warm up to people. She absolutely adores Irene, though, and has a tendency to need to be touching Irene as much as possible. Whether on her shoulder, in her lap, or around her ankles, Fanny is there. She lets Irene hold her, which she often does to baby talk at her.

She’s a very talkative kitty and absolutely lets Irene know when it’s meal time.
