Do orangutans get poached for the pet trade?? That’s nuts
Unfortunately, yes. Orangutans are forced from the trees when their habitat is being deforested, and mothers with dependent infants cross paths with humans who then often kill the mother, sell her remains for bush meat or other uses like skull collectors, and take the infant as a pet for themselves or to sell. Often, the baby does not survive the first two years of pet life. If they make it to age 3-4, they become as strong as a human adult and are very difficult for a human to control. By age 10, orangutans can be up to 7x the strength of a human adult and spend their adult life caged, sold to entertainers or private collectors, or are killed for their body parts.
A lucky few make it to a proper rehabilitation center; There are currently over 1,500 hundred orangutans in rehabilitation centers in Borneo and Sumatra.
Orangutans, like all the other great apes, are listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), which prohibits their unlicensed international trade. Despite this, the trade of pets and parts continues.
Sharing content of orangutans as pets continues the cycle of poaching and death. Help us reduce the demand for pet primates by clicking away from cruel content and educating your loved ones when they unknowingly perpetuate the trade of primates.

nuclear waste warning comic part two! this took me three weeks to finish :’)
(yes that is a sheep skull in the last page) part one
(reblogs are so appreciated you have no idea)
(image ID under the cut!)
[Image ID: The five final pages of an eleven page comic. The first page is in a de-saturated green and yellow-ish color palette. A person in a brown hood, beige and brown clothes, and a gas mask looks down at a map, and then back up again. Over these two panels, “The danger is in a particular location.” Then, written in the nuclear waste symbol, it reads “It increases toward the center.” The bottom half of the page is filled with the figure looking out over a large crater, a few dead trees visible on the horizon. The text reads “The center of danger is here, of a particular size and shape, and below us.” The “And below us” part is written in the crater itself.
The next page is also split into two panels. The first is in the same green-ish colors, showing the figure (who is revealed to be Micheal) taking off the gas mask. Below him, in mostly dark purple with bright yellow highlights, it shows Tubbo and Jack Manifold working on Nuclear weapons. Text that spans both of these panels reads “The danger is still present in your time, as it was in ours.”
The third page is of Micheal as a child, reaching toward what can be assumed to be the nuclear missile being launched. He is most colored purple, but the outside visible through the window he’s looking out of and the highlights are all in bright orange and yellows. The text on this panel says “The danger is to the body.” The second panel, showing an overgrown graveyard colored with a combination of yellow-green and deep purple, reads “And it can Kill.”
The next panel depicts grown up Micheal, wearing a brown cloak, dark boots, and a hood but no gas mask, sitting on the edge of the crater. Most of the page is taken up by text that reads “The form of dangers is an emanation of energy. The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically.”
The final page is a single illustration, depicting Micheal from behind and further away. He is sitting on the cliff, looking out over a crater. There is a large, yellow-green sun on the horizon, and two silhouetted trees on either side of it. To the left of the image, also in silhouette and barely visible, there are several small gravestones. Right up next to the viewer, in the foreground, a sheep’s skull lies in the dirt, overgrown with black vines. The text, covering the entire image, reads “This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.”

Anybody else have herps with total mystery ages? We have a couple who were rescues or came to us from sources that didn’t allow us to know their age, and we have no way of guessing.
It kinda drives me crazy because I have no idea when we should start looking for signs of age-related decline and I wonder if we will have any warning whatsoever before they pass away.
My friend is currently preparing for the end with his elderly dog, so these worries are looming large in my brain right now.

PETA doesn't care about animals, they just care about publicity. They even said so themselves recently that they don't "respect animals' right to live" when questioned about their high euthanasia rate, considering putting down perfectly healthy and adoptable animals as mercy killing. As far as they are concerned animals are better off dead rather than being in captivity at all even if the animal is domesticated and wouldn't survive without human care.
Honestly I could go on for hours but I don't want to tie you up.
sigh, yeah. PETA is much more concerned with animals rights than animal welfare
