A la Bourse de Commerce, François Pinault partage sa passion pour l’art de son temps. Jusqu’au 11 septembre 2023, l’exposition « Avant l’orage » est à l’heure du dérèglement climatique. Les œuvres interpellent sur l’urgence écologique. L’immense tableau de Frank Bowling nous accueille avec un cri d’alerte. La terre semble s’embraser. Notre maison brûle et l’exposition nous empêche de regarder ailleurs. L’être humain dépend de la nature qui l’entoure. Il s’acharne pourtant à la détruire. Avec poésie, Robert Gober fait couler une source d’eau à l’intérieur d’une veste de costume. D’autres vidéos nous livrent une vision apocalyptique. Diana Thater, avec Chernobyl, filme in situ les conséquences de la catastrophe nucléaire. Dans une maison sombre de la zone abandonnée de Fukushima, Pierre Huygue suit l’errance d’un être mutant ; un singe déguisé en femme. Sous nos yeux médusés, Hicham Berrada reproduit la destruction des coraux. Quelques artistes se penchent sur le cycle de la vie ; message d’espoir ou défi lancé aux hommes ? Danh Vo joue avec la rotonde et expose des branches d’arbres coupées à côté de sculptures faites en bois. Un polyptyque de Cy Twombly évoque la course immuable du soleil tandis que les délicates branches de Steegmann Mangrané traduisent la fragile renaissance de la nature. During the past two decades, @Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall has hosted some truly spectacular site-specific installations that have set the bar high for new commissions. We’re happy to say that New York-based, Seoul-born artist Anicka Yi's @anickayi_studio floating machines, the latest instalment of the Hyundai Commission series, sets the bar even higher, both literally and figuratively. Poetically titled “In Love With The World”, the installation consists of a swarm of giant, airborne contraptions - part jellyfish, part cephalopod, part machine – which languorously drift around the enormous hall in ever changing patterns. Based on ocean life forms and mushrooms, and mobilized by AI, Yi’s helium-filled bulbous creatures break down the distinctions between nature and technology, conjuring a post-industrial, symbiotic ecosystem of machines and other life forms – quite contemplative and soothing to be in, but at the same time a bit menacing.
