Very Short Story Thread for September

9/4 The scent of the wisteria coated the air with an exceptional energy while friends roamed across deep conversations. The forays complimented the bouquet of purple flowers above, and turned adequate chores into special encounters. 9/5 The voyage began in the most simple way, without an exceptional goal or epic foray. The story unfolded like the branching vines overhead. A tangle of wisteria twisting and shifting the path to tread. All for an apology.

9/6 Rocking chairs moved in rhythm with words exchanged. The world beyond the wisteria faded as the story formed. Library trips created a special friendship. A bouquet delivery sealed a bond. But, paths diverged due to hardship. He returned to a friend in need and had to respond. 9/10 Inspiration and wisteria lingered long after my ink dried...I completed a short story for @worldanvil's Treasured Companion competition using the VSS above as inspiration.

"In a Flash" includes a flash fiction based in the Anhult Wildlands featuring Devin, member of the Etonia Council. The hair on the back of his neck warned of danger ahead, but he had been tracking it for some time and planned to bring it out of the shadows.

"Collective Verses" includes three of my poems each written as haibun - a paragraph of prose and a haiku - about Lavani and the forest.

…Etched into the leg of the prep table in the kitchen was the most beautiful symbol. It wouldn't peel off. It couldn't be copied. However, the saw could go through the wood above and below the rune.

Reflecting on that moment that might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Mom always said not to be so impulsive. You would think offering to replace the table would have been enough...

River Bend's Lost

In brazen dark pine, I absolve the dsypathy, malignant, and craven forces that took my Gift. I'm ready to explode, but the strategic path fits the equation. Weird fireflies escape the boundary along a threadbare spine, they tell me my prey is baked into time.

The broad paws of the snow leopard navigated the deep snow with little difficulty. It chuffed while tracking its quarry, puffs of warm air crystalized in the cold. Its long tail batted low pine branches, dropping snow on its quarry's tracks and its own tracks. Short round ears kept alert in case it was also being tracked. Read More... Avast Library

The message said to knock twice. The library's windows denied viewing, so a retreat to the Inn seemed smart. Loaf and Ambrosia topped the menu. It was not a holiday, but worth the order and left time to plan. Fate would wait. After Nathan Avast regrouped and returned to the Library, it would become the premier training facility in the Anhult Wildlands. Read More
