Lately I’ve been wondering what a relationship or maybe even a friendship would be like between Angie and Holly?

My thoughts on Angie here. As for Holly, I liked her, it was nice that she subverted the expectation of a pretty popular girl and she wanted to be friends with both boys(Greg and Rowley). I sorta wished we could’ve seen more of her friendship with Rowley, the exploration of a dating relationship such as its ups and challenges between her and Greg, and just more of who Holly is as a person. Too bad Jeff Kinney(the author) didn’t publish a book about her.

Holly is friends with Patty who doesn’t seem to have got along well with Angie. She(Holly) seems to be open and kind enough to be friends with someone very unpopular(ex. Greg), so maybe Holly disagrees with Patty and is instead interested. Angie might be skeptical towards Holly because she is expected to have the qualities of what Angie dislikes. Perhaps something can bring them closer and as time passes, Holly proves Angie’s expectations wrong.

In most stories, a girl like Angie(an outcast) is bullied or being challenged against a girl like Holly(the popular one). It be a good subversion for them to become real friends and turn into better people because of it.

P.S.: Probably by the time they meet, both girls already have the mutual friendships with Greg and Rowley, so they might be less antagonistic to one another?

Joe Dean Hoyle, 79, of Pacolet, SC, died Friday, December 20, 2019, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born February 2, 1940, in Union, SC, he was the son of the late John Peter Hoyle and Myrtle Corean Steadman Hoyle. Mr. Hoyle was a longtime District Manager for Diversco and formerly worked with Milliken & Company. He was a member of First Baptist Spartanburg where he served as an usher. His community memberships include the Pacolet Lions Club, State Constable and former Town Councilman, Pacolet Fire Commissioner, as well as Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Patty Sue White Hoyle; children, Michele Hoyle Brady (Tim) of Spartanburg, SC, Angie Hoyle Ledbetter (Jeff) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Jodi Hoyle Gilmer (Kyle) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Ryan Brady (Amy), Grace Ann Brady, Molly Grace Brady, Daniel Brady (Melody), Katlyn Ledbetter, Mason Gilmer, and Maggie Gilmer; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Jack Brady; and brother, Charles Glenn Hoyle (Julie) of South Daytona, FL. OK, I have some thoughts about Angie…

It feels like her reception is polarizing; she’s the most pointless and poorly handled character OR she’s badass and the best character of the entire series. I heard her inclusion is so Greg doesn’t just interact with boys, but what about Patty? He did interact with a few other girls who weren’t that major, so that reason falls flat. If anything, she interacts more with Rowley than she does with Greg; her relationship with the latter is almost nonexistent. Sure she becomes friends with both boys at the very end of the movie but for the most part she just pops up throughout the movie.

This isn’t directly towards Angie herself, but I’ve seen comments saying she’s the one who steers Greg in the right direction(really? I believe it was the piling of Greg’s bad decisions, fighting with Rowley then stepping up after the cheese incident. Greg did it himself), questioning why she wasn’t in the sequels, and that she was replaced by Holly who is lesser than. The third one kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Angie is not from the source material(books), she’s an adaptation exclusive. Holly didn’t replace her, in fact Holly’s book debut was in Rodrick Rules or The Last Straw which were published in 2008 and 2009. The movie which was Angie’s debut came in 2010. If you just watched the movies and not read the books at all then I can see why people would think that.

I don’t hate Angie, she’s alright but I feel the movie would’ve been fine without her too. I feel she did have potential though.
