A little treat for anyone reading Liminality:
Tumblr media
So.
I commissioned @valkblue for one of her Christmas slots and requested Liminality Frankie with a *few* little hidden treats included …and this is the outcome. (Anyone that can pick out these details is welcome to come scream about them with me!!!).
CURLS. HAT. TATTOOS. EYE CRINKLES. FOREARMS. SCRUFF. THE GRAY IN HIS BEARD. THE TINY SMIRK. THE SHIRT (that was clearly a gag gift from one of the other guys!)There is so much to look at and love 😩😭.
Angie, he is absolutely PERFECT. From the top of his curly head to the tips of his fingers, I could not be happier with this. Thank you so much for putting so much love and attention into what you do.
If you ever have the opportunity to work with Angie for a painting, I HIGHLY recommend it. She’s a dream and will go above and beyond to give you exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to bringing your character to life.

You mentioned it before so now I must know: Which bug has Gonta assigned each of his friends to and for what reason?
OKAY HERE WE GO BABY
Shuichi- blue noctuid moth! Shuichi has big moth vibes, and (according to research the author has done) this moth is sometimes associated with death :) but it is very pretty
Kirumi- orb weaver spider! Spiders are arachnids, not insects, but Gonta still likes them- and orb weavers are very delicate and organized spiders, often observed tearing down and rebuilding their web daily (i have seen this with my own eyes it rocks)
Korekiyo- praying mantis! Tall and thin, can come across as unsettling, but is sorta just minding its own business. Stares at you for too long.
Himiko- ladybug! Small and cute and round, with a similar color scheme and habit of just hanging out wherever they feel like. Also fall asleep like…. As soon as they are somewhere cold or dark. Which is endearing
Ryoma- June Bug! (June beetle) a small, round, endearing beetle in the scarab family. Are very small and resilient (despite their clumsy and self destructive flight patterns)often used to symbolize transformation? Apparently? Christmas beetle would also work for him tbh.
Kaito- firefly! (Lightning bug, fire bug, etc) while not as flashy as Kaito tends to be at first glance, these little show stoppers quite literally light up the night sky like little stars in lonely rural eras
Angie- painted lady butterfly! Maybe a little obvious, but this tiny butterfly has splattered oranges and white and black across its wings to make a vibrant pattern! They also fly around very excitedly, and are attracted to bright colored flowers like echinacea or sunflowers
Rantaro- Atlas Moth! A large, striking moth found in many parts of Asia, with beautiful eye markings and wings that bare a strange resemblance to cobra heads as well. Often used to symbolize travel and wandering
Miu- primrose moth! partially for her signature pink and yellow color scheme, partially for their pickiness when it comes to host plants, and partially because these little critters are often active day and night once they pupate and reach adulthood.
Kiibo- Pill bug! (Rolly Polly, Armadillo Bug, etc) a tiny isopod that’s more related to shrimp and crustaceans than true insects, with slate gray armored backs they have a tendency to hide behind if startled
Kokichi- Emperor Moth Caterpillar (and the moth itself) a very flashy little creature with eye designs and frills along its body to trick predators, known for that one metaphor that symbolizes life’s struggles
Kaede- Monarch Butterfly! A delicate but incredibly resilient butterfly with very vibrant colors!! Often used to symbolize strength and endurance
Tenko- Grasshopper! A high energy insect found all over the world, known for their high jumps and cute little chirps
Maki- Glasswing Butterfly! Small, delicate butterflies with translucent wings they used to blend in with their surroundings. Pollinate and lay their eggs on plants in the poisonous nightshade family
Tsumugi- Leaf Cutter Bee! While a little more plain looking than other bee species (heh heh) these bees are very unique! They cut parts of leaves to make their home, stitching together little nests for winter.
Gonta sees himself as a rhino beetle, big and silly and strong enough to protect his friends!!

Okay I really only have 2 main WIPs but sure we can see snippets of some tiny things......
Second Chance I don’t even have to explain to Hayln why I am actually still alive, because it’s a null day (that really is a good name for it. On the Base we call it pre-day and post-day, in reference to when the reversal occurs). Except here’s the funny thing: Turns out, since I didn’t exist, the most natural thing to occur is for me to simply not exist for about 16 hours. When I explain to the Spirit that No, I am NOT okay with that, it says that if I really want to, we can resist that natural couse of events.
Syndicate He flashed a smile. “Morning, sleepyhead,” he said and came over, picking up mugs from the desk that I hadn’t noticed and bringing them over. He handed me one. “Got you coffee.” A string and tag on the side of his mug showed he was having tea.
Drake Knight I look to the sky, pausing three-quarters down the alley to catch a breath and attempt to wipe some of the coffee off the front of my shirt. It’s empty for a bit, just a gray sky, but then a shadow passes over us and I see it clearly for the first time. Nothing special, the dark gray scales indicate it’s probably from the mountains. But it’s smaller than I expected. Most dragons you fight are adults, but this one isn’t much larger than an elephant. I think it is anyway, hard to tell from the flyby.
Angie & Eddie So Angie stood up and made her way to Target. Passed the cart return, the shampoo bottles, the spa day bins with images of thin women relaxing. She went down the band-aid aisle, the cold medicine aisle, the muscle relaxants. She paused, facing a wall full of pads. She’d been in a slight daze, half convincing herself this wasn’t real, but not she had to focus because where the fuck were they? God, she wasn’t going to have to ask someone, was she?
Creative Nonfiction Portfolio In my dorm, the top left dryer doesn’t work. I’ve put wet laundry inside and returned to find wet laundry. After that, I avoided that dryer for weeks, until it was the only one available so I let it run through, figuring if it didn’t work there would be an open dryer by then. Lo and behold, my laundry remained wet. Have I reported it to the conveniently posted number hanging on the laundry room wall? Nope. Everyone seems aware it’s broken, someone must’ve reported it. And ultimately, we’ll live. But, that’s just a dryer. No one’s in any danger.
Immortal Souls The rain picked up. Back home, inside, I loved rain, but now I hated it. I pulled my hood up to cover my head and swung my backpack over my shoulder, moving off the bench and under an awning of a corner store. It was the kind of building that looked like it had been passed down between different owners, none of which bothered to change the old sign. An ancient hand-painted sign that said “Collier’s” was faded and mounted above a newer, stenciled sign that said “Watkin’s Market.” A glance around told me that Watkin’s was the name of the street, so, definitely not the most creative. It was advertising cheap cell phones and beer, so not much of a market either.
The Snow Queen Retelling "What’you suppose they are, demons or something? Goblins? Nothing like the ones at the church. That one looks like he can fly.” He stared at it, getting lost in the red of the glass, a color that stood out in the colorless castle. He hadn’t noticed it before. Or, he remembered, he’d thought it was stupid, that the colors gave him a headache. He’d never stopped to take them in, to look at how pretty the colors were when light shone through them.
Faye & Myra-- Summer Hangout I felt like crying, but that would be way worse right now and I couldn’t face it. I took a deep breath and pushed it away. I grabbed the few tintypes I’d taken out of the box, brought the box back, and purchased them. I went over to Olivia.
Layla In an instant, the numb feeling of being disconnected vanished, and panic rushed through me. Twitches underneath my eyes warned me that tears were coming, and then they did, filling my eyes and blurring the message. My mouth quivered, my breathing was speeding up. What was he doing? Couldn’t this be over? Hadn’t he gotten what he wanted?
Lialyn Lialyn was a kingdom of Mages. Every part of their lives had been shaped around the fact that everyone, from the rich to poor, learned magic. As the prince, he and his sister were expected to master as soon as possible. They were supposed to be superior in magic the way other countries had their royalty superior in swordfighting. Which meant that Sam had failed his family from the start.

Summary: Despite everything the greatest love stories have depicted; grand displays of romance with a thousand roses and expensive perfume or dramatic reunions in the pouring rain closed off with a kiss, there was something so pure about the simple kind of love. Soft kisses shared as you cook dinner after a long day, cuddling close as a movie plays in the background, all the domestic things. Just existing in someone else’s space with them feeling as comfortable you do, and having that be enough? That was the best kind of love.
Luckily for you, that was exactly what you shared with the lovely Donna Beneviento, that simple kind of love.
Warnings: None! Still just very fluffy fluff.
Pairing: Donna Beneviento x Reader
Note: This has been a wip for way too long, so today I finally sat down and finished it :)) Idea was given to me by the lovely @thatvictorian so thank her for that, lol. Happy reading, my lovelies~
Despite everything the greatest love stories have depicted; grand displays of romance with a thousand roses and expensive perfume or dramatic reunions in the pouring rain closed off with a kiss, there was something so pure about the simple kind of love. Soft kisses shared as you cook dinner after a long day, cuddling close as a movie plays in the background, all the domestic things. Just existing in someone else’s space and having them feel as comfortable you do, and have that be enough? That was the best kind of love.
Luckily enough for you, this was exactly what you shared with the lovely Donna Beneviento, Maiden of Mist Valley and one of the Four Lords of the Village. It took a long while to become friends with Donna, let alone grow close enough to become lovers. Over the course of her life walls around herself were inevitable, and only hardened as time went on. But piece by piece you gently took the wall apart, not breaking her walls down but rather uncovering the layers slowly until there was nothing else but her. Donna, your sweet Donna, the love of your life.
You watched her now as she sat on the couch by the fireplace, needle and thread in hand as deft fingers expertly sewed fabric together, a key component to the doll she had been working on for a few days now. The house was quiet, Angie having been put down for a nap (thank the Gods. You loved the doll, truly, but the chaos she created at times…it definitely called for breaks) The only sounds being the soft crackle of the fireplace and the occasional humming as you waited for the kettle to boil. Your eyes trailed over her movements with a sort of delicate delight as you prepared the teapot, a little grin playing across your face as you brewed tea for the both of you. What divine being had deemed you worthy enough to be by Donna’s side, you wondered? Even so, you were grateful nonetheless.
Eventually the loud whistling of the kettle broke you out of your reverie, the obnoxious sound interrupting the peace that had fallen over the two of you. Quickly you made your way over, taking it off the stove and bringing it back to the teapot where you had prepared some Blue Lady Earl Gray tea. It was a favourite of Donna’s and yours after a long day, the aroma alone settling your nerves with ease.
Carefully you poured the boiling water into the ceramic teapot. It was a set you had brought home a little while back, its colour a pale blue with delicate little snowdrops painted on the side. The set came with three matching teacups of the same design, perfect for the two of you as well as Angie when she settled down enough. How she drank tea was…still a mystery (you figured it was due to Donna’s immense love for tea, but you couldn’t be sure).
Setting the kettle back down on the stove, you moved towards Donna as you waited for the tea to steep fully. Making your way behind the setee, you wrapped your arms around her shoulders before pressing a tender kiss to her forehead, fingertips running through her dark hair just the way she liked it. At the action Donna’s cheeks flushed pink before her lips curled into a smile. Tilting her head back she met your gaze, her golden eye sparkling with playfulness.
“I hope you made that tea properly, darling” she teased, making you huff dramatically.
It was one time, just once, you had let the tea steep for too long. When you had brought it over to Donna she looked as though she were ready to spit it back into the cup but swallowed it solely for your sake. Granted it was a lower quality black tea so you supposed her reaction was acceptable, but she has never let you live that down since.
Apparently the tea was so far below her quality standard that she had to give you an in-depth lesson right afterwards to ensure it never happened again. If there was one thing she took seriously, it was tea. Thinking back now it was quite the funny memory, one you hold fondly to your heart. Oh, how hilarious the face she made was, nose scrunched and lips pursed like a baby with a lemon. It made you giggle even now.
“Oh, how you doubt me so! I’ll have you know I am perfectly capable of brewing a tea up to your standards milady,” you quipped back sarcastically, making Donna shake her head as she chuckled under her breath.
“We shall see then, my love~” she said. You knew it was all in good jest. After all this time you have mastered just the way Donna liked it and she always told you as much. No milk, no sugar, just the simple cup of tea as it is. “Any well brewed tea will be perfect on its own, the combinations of flavors and aromas mingling and enhancing each other without need for anything else,” she had said once.
“Hm~ We shall,” you said with a smirk, unraveling your arms and making your way back over to the table. Popping open the lid for a moment you checked the coloration of the tea. It was that rich umber colour you were searching for; perfect. It was ready.
Grabbing the teacups from the cabinet you poured out the liquid gold before carrying them back over to the sitting area where Donna was sat. Holding out the cup towards her she places the fabric down onto her lap, fingers grazing yours as she took it from your grasp. Then you settled in by her side, knees propped up beneath you comfortably.
Turning towards her you watched in a sort of childish anticipation, eagerly awaiting her opinion even now. She glanced at you from the corner of her eye before her lips quirked upwards at the sight, but she didn’t say anything. Lithe fingers gently grasped the small handle, inhaling the scent of the warm tea before taking a sip. She hummed in contentment before smiling at you softly.
“Wonderful as always, my love,” she said, her low voice soothing to your ears and mind.
“Anything for you, darling,” you say in response, a goofy smile on your face at the thought of making her happy.
Her gaze only softens considerably more than it already was before she turns back to her work. Placing the teacup back down onto the saucer with a gentle clink, she takes back into her hands the fabric she was sewing. The few words shared between the two of you were more than enough in this moment.
Settling in a bit more you sipped your own tea as you watched her work, unconsciously leaning in closer as you did so. Like planets and their attraction to the sun you were pulled into her warmth and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
There was a sort of gentleness to loving Donna. Soft touches and whispered words breathed into the short distance between your lips, bodies intertwined as you held each other in the morning light and little grins arising from inside jokes you both shared. Loving her is soft and sweet, lovely and tender. She was everything to you, and you would try your hardest to make sure she knew of that each and every day.
Placing your cup down on the table next to hers, you scooted in closer to her as through gravity was pulling you close.
“Donna,” you called out softly. She hummed in acknowledgment, her focus still directed on sewing fabric however. Taking a different course of action, you capture her cheek in your hand to turn her head and face you, the other covering her work momentarily.
For a moment you can only look into her eye, enraptured by the swirling gold that it was. So prettily did it shine even despite the dim light. Gently your thumb strokes over the bottom of her scar, prompting a small shiver to run up her back much to your delight. It was a major insecurity she had, but you made sure to let her know that it was simply a part of who she was, and that loving her meant loving every part of her, even the parts she didn’t like.
Slowly you pulled her close before pressing your lips to hers in a tender kiss. It was a simple one, no bright flames of passion and lust…and yet even so it still portrayed the immense love you held for her in that single action. Innocent and soft but with that subtle spark, one you would never tire of.
Pulling away you see her flushed cheeks and slightly parted lips, prompting you to place another quick peck to her lovely lips with a grin.
“What brought that on, darling?” she asked, so quietly it was almost a whisper because of her embarrassment. It was so endearing you thought surely your heart would give out any moment.
Pressing your forehead against hers, you whisper into the air between; “Just…you, Donna. Only you.”

technicolor (f.w.)
prompt request by anon: it is said that when you meet your soulmate, you will know because the world that you knew in black and white would turn technicolor. during a harmless game of spin the bottle, you didn’t expect your soulmate to be revealed to you.
warnings: drinking, mentions of eating, mild language
pairing: fred weasley x fem! gryffindor reader
word count: 5.3k
Tumblr media
The power of true love was life altering in your world. Literally. The world was painted in shades of blacks, whites, and grays. It always was for those who hadn’t met their true love, their soulmate, their one and only. It was said on the occasion that you had kissed your soulmate, the world before you would erupt into vibrant color. People spent their whole lives, searching for the person who brought color to them.
Living in a dull, colorless world was mundane to say the least, but it was all you knew. The idea of living in a world of color was an exciting thought to say the least, but in a way it scared you. Suddenly the world as you knew it changing abruptly before your eyes because you had met someone that destiny created for you? It was a scary thought. But in your head, you had nothing to worry about. You didn’t plan on meeting your soulmate any time soon.
Or so you thought.
Laying upside down on the common room couch, you flipped through the pages of a Quibbler, not really paying attention to the words on the page. You looked on either side of you, Katie painting her nails on your left and Alicia on the right making light chatter with Angelina. Needless to say, the four of you were bored out of your skull. It was a quiet Friday night, nothing happening in the common room. No parties, no quidditch match, no nothing.
With a groan, you pull yourself up from your inverted position and speak, “So are we all just going to sit around here like a bunch of bums and wait for something exciting to happen?”
Katie sighs, “That’s even if something exciting happens.” She blows on her nails, shaking her hands back and forth to expedite the drying process. “Does anyone have any ideas?”
The two of you look to Alicia and Angelina who just shrug as you throw your head back in annoyance. “Well, someone think of something because I refuse to let a perfectly good Friday night go to waste,” you flop the Quibbler on the table in front of you and hold your arms across your chest. “What can we do to entertain ourselves?”
Alicia stands up and starts pacing, trying to think of something. “We could...sneak some food out from the kitchens? Convince a house elf to sneak us some sweets from dinner two nights ago. Those biscuits were so good,” she thinks out loud.
Katie groans, “The thought of food makes me sick. I ate so much at dinner tonight after Ron challenged me to see how many dinner rolls I could fit into my mouth.”
The thought of Katie with bread rolls in her mouth makes the group chuckle. “Okay, so food is out of the picture,” Alicia speaks with a soft smile. “What about a movie? I can see if Hermione would let me borrow her projector and we could watch one of those movies I have tucked away in my trunk,” she suggests, surveying the group’s reaction.
Angelina makes a sour face. “We had a movie marathon last week, I’d like to do something different,” she tells Alicia who rolls her eyes.
Alicia huffs, plopping herself back onto the couch. “Well, then I’m out of ideas, so you come up with something, Johnson.”
The group sits in a bored silence for a few moments before Angie breaks the silence. “Should I go bother Fred and George? Surely they’ll find something to do. They always make things interesting,” she speaks, raising her brows, gaging her audience’s reaction.
Katie rolls her eyes, “Merlin, Angie, if you want an excuse to see your darling Georgie, you can just say so.” You laugh at her comment and give Katie a teasing high five as Alicia giggles along. Angelina rolls her eyes and leans back on the couch. Angelina and George had been dating ever since sixth year when they kissed after their first date and they had seen the world in color, confirming their soulmate status. Katie mockingly starts teasing Angie now, “Meh, meh, I’m Angie, I love George, I see the world in color. Meh, meh, my sweater is green and not black like you guys see it, blah, blah,” making you cackle, throwing your head back in laughter, clutching your stomach.
You lean into Katie as you laugh, making her laugh harder as Angelina stands up, “Oh, piss off you two! I can’t help it that he’s my soulmate and I found him so early!”
“We’re just teasing you, Angie,” you wipe the tears of laughter from your eyes. “Go on, go fetch the twins. I’m sure they’ll think of something to do. Tell ‘em to bring Jordan with them if he’s around. Lee is always a good time.” Alicia nods in agreement.
With a small smile, Angelina darts off up the stairs to the boys’ dormitory. Alicia shakes her head, “That girl is whipped for the Weasley. I can’t believe she found her soulmate already. We’re not even eighteen yet.”
It was true. It wasn’t unheard of people finding their soulmates at a young age, but it surely wasn’t common. Most people were friends or knew their soulmates for a while before they were aware that they were in fact soulmates. For example, your parents both went to Hogwarts and we friends for years. It wasn’t until after four years after graduation that they realized they were soulmates. You smiled to yourself at the thought of your parents. You wished that you could have a soulmate story like theirs.
Katie folds her arms across her chest, “Quite frankly I hope I don’t meet my soulmate anytime soon. I feel like after you meet your soulmate, you’re expected to drop everything and be with them. But you have your whole lives ahead of you to spend time with each other. I’d rather be single and have fun and live my life in black and white for a while before seeing color with a soulmate.”
In a way you did agree with Katie. Most people who met their soulmate at a young age tended to drop everything in order to be there for their soulmate. Coordinating their lives and schedules to their soulmates, moving cities for them, planning their days around the other. It just seemed so intense. You were seventeen, you couldn’t drop everything right now for another person.
Moments later, Angelina happily came down the stairs with a large smile on her face as George, Fred, and Lee all trailed behind her. “The entertainment has arrived, ladies,” George speaks with a big beaming smile on his face as you teasingly rolled your eyes.
You sit up and speak, “What entertainment did you bring, Georgie?”
He places a hand over his heart, pretending to be offended at your comment. “Are we not enough for you, (Y/N)? Is our presence not enough?” George mockingly stumbles back. “Freddie, I feel faint! Catch me!”
Dramatically, Fred scoops up his twin brother as George pretends to faint. “Merlin’s beard, (Y/N), look at what you’ve done!” he mockingly screeches as you roll your eyes and giggle. Katie huffs a here we go as she leans back into the couch. The twins always put on a show when they were around you guys. You never minded it; they were quite funny when they wanted to be. “Quick, Lee, we need to revive him!”
Lee, now in on the joke, runs over to the coffee table and clear it quickly. “Bring him here!” he exclaims as Fred lays a fake limp George on the table as you laugh and Alicia scoffs.
“Good Godric, you three are a bunch of idiots,” she huffs with a smile on her face. No matter how much she hated to admit it, this was much better than sitting around and doing nothing.
Fred speaks, “Alright, Lee, give me the reviving potion,” sticking out his hand.
Even more dramatic than before, Lee pulls out a large bottle of fire whiskey from his satchel as he improvises an operatic song as he places it in Fred’s hands. Lee opens George mouth as Fred uncorks the bottle and pours a glug into George’s mouth. George swallows it and dramatically inhales. “I’ve been revived!” he exclaims as the boys cheer.
Katie perks up at the sight of fire whiskey. “Where in the hell did you get a bottle of that?” she sits up and grabs the bottle from Fred’s hands. Lee pulls out a few cups from his satchel and places them on the table, Katie immediately pouring everyone a glass of fire whiskey.
Fred smiles, “It’s our emergency bottle. In case situations like this happen.”
Folding her arms across her chest, Alicia speaks up, “And exactly how many emergency bottles do you boys have?”
The trio looks at each other before sighing and speaking as a chorus, “Four.”
“Uh huh, that’s what I thought,” she laughs before taking a cup of fire whiskey from Katie, Katie then handing you one. “Well, it’s better than nothing I guess.”
You look at the whiskey in your cup before sighing and taking a sip, the liquid burning your throat, but warming your chest up in all the right ways. A familiar sensation. You hum in contentment. “Better than nothing is damn right,” you smile as the twins chuckle. “What were you lot doing upstairs?”
Lee takes a seat in the chair across from the couch, “Same thing as you gals. Bored out of our skulls. However, these two numbskulls were trying to conjure up a plan to go pull a prank on Filch.” George snickers as Lee flicks the back of his head, earning a small ow. “Good thing you all were bored too otherwise I would have been dragged into that mess.”
Fred scoffs, “Oh please, you wish you could pull off a prank at the caliber that Georgie and I do. Isn’t that right, brother?” He turns to George who is already cuddled up next to Angelina on the love seat, arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her close next to him. Fred rolls his eyes and makes a gagging sound. “You two make me sick.”
George just pulls Angie closer to his side as Angie blushes a deep crimson. “You’re just jealous, Freddie. I’ve got a hot girlfriend and I can see the world in color, making it quite obvious that you, dear brother, are green with envy.” Angie rolls her eyes, but still places a soft kiss to George’s cheek.
Fred shakes his head, “He’s gone soft, Lee. We’ve lost one of our bravest soldiers.”
“Piss off,” Angie speaks up, defending her boyfriend as Freddie chuckles, lips turning into a gorgeous smile. “Now that we’ve all got our drinks, let’s really get the party started...” she wiggles her eyebrows. “Katie Bell, truth or dare.”
Katie groans and sips her fire whiskey before deciding what she wants to do. As she ponders, you see Fred scoot over to you as you giggle, him dragging his bum on the floor, making his way to you. Fred smiles up at you, “This seat taken?” he refers to the spot on the floor right in front of your legs.
You shake your head with a smile, “It’s got your name written all over it, Weasley.”
Fred gives you a cheeky grin, “Brilliant.”
He turns around and leans his back up against your legs and rests one of his arms on your knees. You and Fred were close friends. In fifth year when Angelina confessed to you that she had a crush on George, you started spending more time with the twins and developed a close relationship with them and Lee. You, in particular, got along with Fred like a house on fire. The two of you loved to crack jokes on the sidelines, teasing George and Angie, giggling and stealing little glances here and there.
Angelina always told you that you and Fred would make a cute couple. She insisted she saw the way that Fred looked at you, but you always brushed it off as if it were nothing. You and Fred were friends, nothing more, nothing less. A partnership would just totally ruin the vibe between the two of you. There was no point to it. Even though you may have always admired Fred’s looks from a far and his charming personality, you had finally convinced yourself that you and Fred Weasley were platonic.
As Fred leaned up against your legs, sipping on his whiskey, your eyes found Angie’s as she lifted her brows, looking at you knowingly, sending you a look that said Oh? You rolled your eyes and shook your head, responding with your eyes, No way. She just shrugged and sipped her fire whiskey nonchalantly as if to say Whatever you say...You just brushed it off and leaned back as Katie challenged Lee to a dare.
----------
The night progressed and the drinking continued and the bottle got less and less full. Soon enough, the common room was full of your tipsy giggles as the lot of you cracked jokes with each other. You hugged your sides as you cackled as Fred did a spot on impression of Draco Malfoy as he mimicked him walking through the halls, yelling “Potter!” every now and then. Of course, the humor was amplified by the liquor in your hands, but it still was hilarious. The whole group was in a fit of giggles as Lee quite literally fell to the floor from laughter too hard.
Alicia laid her head in your lap as she laughed, wiping tears from her eyes as you all recovered from laughter. “Fred, that was brilliant. You’ll have to show Harry tomorrow morning,” she tells him as Fred plops down next to you on the couch, stealing Katie’s spot as she was now sat on the floor next to Lee.
Fred chuckles and rests his arm around the back of the couch, gently hovering behind you as you suddenly become very aware of his presence. You spot Angelina out of your periphery vision as she smirks to herself before leaning over and whispering something in George’s ear, making George look at you with a devilish smirk on his lips. Your gaze towards them hardens as you mouth, Knock it off. George just smiles and sips his drink quietly, pretending to mind his own business.
You turn to Fred and give him a soft smile as he drops his left eye in a wink, making your heart skip a beat. “Easy, Weasley,” you say in a cautious tone as he lifts his arms in defense. You shake your head and lean back into the couch, bumping into his arm that is draped across the back of the couch. Neither of you bother moving.
Alicia rises from your lap and reaches for the fire whiskey bottle, but groans in defeat when she realizes it’s empty. “Bloody hell,” she groans. She looks to Lee and begs, “Is it appropriate to call this an emergency and you can grab another one of your emergency fire whiskeys?”
Lee laughs, “I regret to inform you we have a one emergency bottle a night policy.” Alicia groans and flops back onto the couch. Suddenly, a light bulb goes off in Lee’s mind, making his eyes grow wide and a little smile dance on his lips. “However,” he wiggles his brows and surveys the group. “Now that we’ve got an empty bottle, I think we all know where we can take this party...”
Looking up from her cup, Katie says, “Where are we taking the party? Are we going to bed?” she asks with sadness in her voice. “But the night is so young!”
Shaking his head, Lee looks at Katie. “Are you daft, Bell?” he asks as she rolls her eyes, sipping her whiskey. “I meant we could play a cheeky game of spin the bottle,” Lee suggests.
Alicia huffs, “Really, Jordan? What are we? Fourth years?”
“Oh, come on, Spinnet, it’s just to add a little spice to the mix,” Lee shimmies his shoulders making you laugh. “Besides, it gives you an excuse to have the privilege of planting a sloppy one on me.”
Alicia fake gags. “I’d rather spend a whole day with Professor Snape,” she spits as Lee laughs.
George speaks up now, “Angie and I will sit this one out, but we will watch the show.” He pulls Angie impossibly closer to him as she cuddles into his chest. “For obvious reasons,” he smirks. Fred boos his brother and throws his now empty cup of fire whiskey at him. “What? I am not kissing someone other than my literal soulmate,” he rationalizes. “Besides, you’ve got five players. That’s enough. That is, if everyone is comfortable playing.”
The group all looks at each other, gaging everyone’s feelings of playing a cheeky game. You had to admit you’d rather not play a game as childish as spin the bottle, but for a weird reason, you were keen on playing at least one round. As you looked around, it seemed like everyone was on board to play.
Your eyes meet Fred’s for a moment as he looks at you, his eyes darting from your eyes to your lips for a split second, hoping you wouldn’t catch him. You quickly turn away, trying to hide the heat on your cheeks. “I don’t see the harm in one game,” you shrug as you see Fred smile from the corner of your eye. Lee claps his hands cheering as Alicia and Katie agree.
Fred speaks up, “Well, I can’t let Lee be the only bloke having all the fun, now can I?”
Everyone is on board with the game as Lee cheers, “Alright! Five for five!” He places the empty bottle of fire whiskey on its side in order to spin it. “Everyone knows the rules. You spin and kiss whomever it lands on, no matter who it is. I’m looking at you, Weasley. If you land on me, I expect the best snog of my life,” he teases as you all laugh wildly. “Whomever the bottle lands on gets the next spin. All good?” Everyone nods. Lee smiles, “Groovy. Welp, youngest goes first. Bell, you’re up.”
Katie giggles, “Put on your chapstick, you lucky sons of bitches.” Alicia laughs as Katie reaches and spins the bottle. The bottle does a series of spins, turning clockwise as she anticipates who she’ll be planting a kiss on. She nervously dances back and forth as you watch her with a small smile on your face.
Slowly the bottle stops spinning to land gently on Fred. Your heart stops for a second and your mouth runs dry. You blink a few times and swallow hard. The group all claps their hands and laughs as Katie rolls her eyes. You on the other couldn’t help but have a tight feeling in your chest. You force a smile on your face before you look at Angelina quickly. She raises her brows, monitoring your reaction as you just shake your head, letting her know you were fine.
Katie scoots over to Fred as Fred leans down. “Get ready for your mind to be blown,” Fred jokes as Katie slaps his arm.
You watch very intently as Fred ducks his head down to connect his lips with Katie. You stop breathing for a moment as you watch Fred kiss one of your closest friends. Your palms start sweating and you pull yourself away from looking at them kiss. Lee and Alicia oooh and giggle as you look at Angie, eyes screaming at her, Okay maybe I’m not fine.
She gives you a nervous smile and mouths, “It’s just a silly game.”
You nod your head and shake it off. It was a silly game. That’s all. A stupid, silly, childish game. It meant nothing. You knew Katie didn’t like Fred like that. She had fancied Adrian Pucey for a few months now. This kiss meant literally nothing.
It felt like the kiss had lasted for hours when it was a brief five seconds. Katie pulls away from the kiss and returns to her position on the floor. Fred just smirks and leans back in his seat, dragging his thumb across his bottom lip. You watch as he does so, the small gesture being surprisingly attractive to you as you gulp. But you quickly turn around so Fred doesn’t catch you watching.
Katie laughs, “Eh, you’re nothing to ride home about, Freddie. Hate to break it to you.”
Fred shrugs, “It’s alright, Bell. The first stage of grieving is denial. You’ll eventually accept that that kiss was the best one of your life.”
Lee cackles as Fred joins him in his laugher before leaning over and spinning the bottle for himself. The bottle spins round and round and round as you watch it, the bottle hypnotizing you. You secretly wished that the bottle would land on you, wanting to be able to kiss Fred Weasley and getting the confirmation that you didn’t like Fred in that way. But honestly, you just hoped it was anyone but Katie or Alicia.
The bottle slowly stopped spinning as it gently landed on Lee, making the group erupt in laughter. Lee’s lips drew up in a devilish smile as he rubbed his hands together, “Here I come, big boy!” he exclaims, making you laugh even harder.
Fred laughs and sits up in his seat. “Give it to me, Jordan,” he challenges.
Lee springs to his feet and grabs Fred’s face with both hands, squeezing his cheeks together before smashing his lips on Fred’s. Fred is laughing as Lee kisses him roughly, rocking him back and forth. George is absolutely dying of laughter, falling into his chair as the rest of the group squeals.
Alicia grabs onto your arms, squeezing you as she laughs, you doing the same. The kiss happens for a while as you cackle, “Good Godric, come up for some air why don’t you?”
With a smack, Lee pulls off of Fred as Fred falls back in his seat. Fred’s eyes are wide as Lee wipes his lips. “And that,” Lee points to Fred, “is how you kiss someone. Not that pathetic thing you gave Katie.”
The group comes down from laughing at Lee spins the bottle for himself. The cycle repeats for a while. Lee kisses Alicia, Alicia kisses you, you kiss Katie, Katie kisses Lee, and then the bottle spins again. Lee spins and the bottle gently lands on you as you giggle. “I’m expecting excellence, Lee Jordan,” you eye him as he laughs. “Not going to lie, Alicia might give you a run for your money.”
Lee rolls his eyes, “In her dreams.”
You giggle before the two of you close the gap between you two, kissing each other. The kiss is honestly not bad. Lee’s lips tasted of the fire whiskey along with vanilla and sugar. The kiss was gentle, but not bad at all. Your friends around you all cheer and oooh at you two in typical fashion as you both smile into the kiss. You pull away and Lee sends you a wink. “The reviews are in,” you speak. “Not bad, Jordan. Not bad at all. Actually, pretty damned good!”
Lee pumps his arm. “Hah! Take that, Spinnet!”
“Alright, my turn to spin,” you giggle and excitedly spin the bottle.
The bottle spins and spins and spins as everyone waits in anxious anticipation. Who could it be? Slowly, the bottle stops spinning and lands on the person right next to you, Mr. Fred Weasley.
Your heart stops as your mouth goes dry. Everyone immediately erupts into cheers, specifically George who springs onto his feet. “Oh, I’ve been waiting for this one!” he cheers as you gulp.
Kissing Fred Weasley? Maybe this game was a mistake.
You stare at the bottle, and then to Angie who wears the biggest grin on her face, and then back at the bottle and finally to Fred. His eyes stare back at you as you gulp. A smirk dances on Fred’s lips as you suck in a breath. The whole group stares at the pair of you, silent, waiting for something to happen.
The tension between you and Fred was so thick you could cut it with a knife. “Cat got your tongue, (Y/L/N)?” Fred teases you as he scoots a little closer to you. You suck in a shaky breath as he chuckles lowly.
You snap yourself out of this anxious gaze and speak, confidence now coursing through your veins. You were going to kiss your best friend and it was happening now. “Make your move, Weasley,” you challenge with flirtation laced in your voice.
Fred smiles, “No need to tell me twice,” he lowly whispers.
Immediately, Fred cups your cheek and brings your lips to his. Your lips connect and the whole group loudly cheers and screams. You hear Lee scream, “Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!”
But you couldn’t care what was happening. You were kissing Fred. Your heart was beating a mile a minute. Fred’s lips were soft, but demanding as they pressed firmly onto yours. His lips tasted of sweet cinnamon and spice; his lips were like a personal drug that you couldn’t get enough of. You pressed your lips harder against his as you both sucked in a breath, your hand resting on his forearm. His lips moved gently against yours as you both enjoyed this kiss too much for a friendly game of spin the bottle.
You opened up your mouth enough for Fred to slide his tongue in, massaging his with yours as you moan just loudly enough for Fred to hear, making him smile into your kiss. As the group watched you two softly snog, they only cheer louder. You were too involved in relishing in the way Fred’s lips felt pressed against yours to care about how your friends were reacting.
The kiss was everything you wanted a first kiss with someone to be. It was gentle, but didn’t lack in passionate or desire. His lips moved in sync with yours as you followed his lead, his tongue dancing with yours. It was exactly how you imagined kissing Fred Weasley.
You are pulled from your thoughts when George cries out, “For Merlin’s sake Freddie, don’t eat the poor girl!”
Gently, you break the kiss as Fred’s lips follow yours for a moment, not wanting the kiss to end just yet. The two of you keep your eyes closed, relishing in the moment that you two shared.
Lee laughs, “Is it just me or is it hot in here?”
You giggle and gently pry your eyes open. But that’s when you gasp.
You look at Fred who sits in front of you in full color. His bright red hair contrasting against the light blue thermal shirt he wears. His brown eyes stare at you just as much in shock.
It happened.
“Merlin’s beard...” you whisper.
The room fall silent as your friends stare at the two of you in confusion, wondering what could have possibly happened that made the two of you stare at each other in shock.
“Is it...” you start.
“Yeah,” Fred answers. He lets out a light laugh. “Yeah, it is.”
You let out a light laugh with him and slowly, look around the room taking in your surroundings, the whole common room in beautiful colors of maroon and gold. Color dances everywhere as you let out an amazed chuckle.
Looking at Angie with amazement, she suddenly realizes exactly what’s going on. A smile erupts on her face as she lets out a sigh. “Good Godric,” she breathes. She looks at George. “It happened.”
The entire group registers what is happening as they stare at the two of you in awe as you two take in your surroundings gentle. “Oh shit,” Lee breathes out with a smile. “That’s bloody brilliant...”
You look back at Fred who just wears a gentle smile on his face as you look deeply into his chocolate brown eyes that swim with amazement and adoration. You could look into those eyes forever. And lucky for you, that’s what you were going to do.
Breaking the silence, Angelina says, “We’ll leave you two to it then. Guys...”
Your friends all start to leave the common room, running up the stairs to the dormitories, definitely to chat about what just happened.
You are now left with Fred in the common room, sitting on the couch together, staring at each other in technicolor. “Hi, Freddie,” you breathe out with a smile.
Fred smiles, “Hi, (Y/N),” he reciprocates. The two of you just take the other one in for a few moments as you gulp. What were you supposed to say? What were you supposed to do? Merlin’s sake, this was supposed to be a cheeky game of spin the bottle and all of a sudden. “We’re soulmates,” Fred speaks plainly.
“I guess so,” you laugh. You gently bite your lip. “I never thought it would be you, Fred.”
He inhales a long breath. “I had a feeling,” Fred admits as you teasingly smack his arm. “I’m glad I was right,” he confesses as you blush. “You have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. With and without color,” he tells you. “I didn’t think that you could get more gorgeous, but color has proved me wrong.”
You shake your head, “Freddie...” you trail off, blushing wildly, crimson appearing on your cheeks for the first time. Fred takes your hand in his and gently rubs his thumb over your knuckles. You give into his touch, nothing feeling more right. “I’m so glad it’s you.”
Fred lifts your hand up to his lips and presses a kiss to your knuckles. “We’re soulmates,” he repeats himself as you nod. “Wow...so, we get to spend forever with each other, huh? You’re going to get really tired of me, aren’t you?” he jokes as you laugh.
“I could never grow tired of you,” you confess, squeezing his hand. You run your hand through his red hair. The signature of the Weasleys that you could finally see now. “I do have to say though,” you start. “I was not expecting your hair to be this red.”
Fred laughs, “Get used to it, darling. You’ll be staring at it for the rest of your life. Not to mention, the Weasley genetics are strong. Sorry to say that if we decide to have kids, they’ll end up like this.”
You roll your eyes, “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Freddie.” He smiles and sends you a wink. “So,” you breathe out. “What do we do now?”
He inhales deeply and sighs. “Well,” he starts. “I think we ought to tell people, specifically our parents,” he says as you nod. “But other than that, we do what we want.” You gaze into Fred’s eyes and smile. “(Y/N), we have the rest of our lives together. There’s no rush. We can go at our own pace. We don’t have to pay attention to what people say we should be doing. I’m just happy that we’ve found each other that way we can start forever now.”
Your heart fills with joy and adoration at his words. You had always worried that you wouldn’t love soulmate, nevertheless like them, but loving Fred Weasley was going to be the easiest task of your life. Living your forever in color together.
“Sounds good to me, Weasley,” you smile.
Fred leans in and closes the gap between you two, kissing you again sweetly like he had done minutes ago for the first time. His lips are even gentler than before on yours as you smile into the kiss. Fred pull away and smiles, “Reckon we go upstairs and get the teasing out of the way from the lot?”
You take a moment. “Let’s wait a little while. We have forever for them to tease us. We’ll only have this moment for a short time.”
He shakes his head. “Merlin, you’re perfect.”
And there the two of you laid in each other’s arms, taking in the new colorful world before you, souls now connected forever. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.

camden has a reality check... {primadonna au}
[Part 1]
•
Camden lifted her rose gold sunglasses, squinting to get a better view of the school in front of her.
It looked fairly small, as far as schools went. The orange-red coloured bricks unlocked a very specific memory of childhood that Camden had long buried.
Her heeled boots clacked against the pavement as she made her way to the entrance. She went to grab a guest pass and meet with the students participating in the musical and their teacher, Miss Angeria Van Micheals.
Once she arrived at the joint gym and auditorium, it was pure, unadulterated, drama-class chaos.
The kids were all bouncing around the gym floor as if they’d all eaten pixie sticks for lunch. Camden gathered that they were trying to interpret some sort of animal - a kangaroo, perhaps? or maybe a pack of gazelles, she wasn’t exactly clear on that.
A few of the students stopped and broke out into whispers when they noticed her presence.
“Let’s settle, now.”
A warm yet firm voice made the students reassemble and take a seat on the floor together, revealing a woman standing behind them.
She was tall and slender, with a strong presence that commanded attention but was equally as inviting. Her gray shirt was tucked into dark wash jeans, with a burgundy cardigan on top that dramatically swished as she gestured to the kids. Her lips were painted a red that matched and were curled into a bright smile.
“As you know, this is the biggest production our school has ever put on. The art department has decided to look for some support, which is why-”
“-Is it true you were on Broadway?!”
A young girl eagerly blurted the question, unable to contain it any longer.
“Yes,” Camden replied with a diplomatic nod, “I was in the ensemble of Anastasia, and was able to tour with them before moving on to a few Off-Broadway roles.”
This spurred even more excited whispering amongst the group. Camden would be lying if she said it didn’t fuel her ego at least a little bit.
“Are you really here to help us?” Another student asked. He stared into Camden’s soul with intensely hopeful puppy-dog eyes.
“Well-” Camden faltered.
In retrospect, she should not have been caught off-guard by the candidness of these kids. Especially considering they were theatre kids.
“I’d certainly like to observe for a little while-”
“-Whatever happened to raising our hand before speaking?”
Miss Van Micheals gave her students a disapproving click of her tongue, stirring laughter in all of them. She seemed like the type of teacher who had playful rapport with her class, the kind who knew how to keep things lighthearted. In Camden’s own experience, those were pretty rare to find, which made her all the more impressive.
“I see you’re all warmed up, so why don’t we show our guest what we’ve worked on so far?”
The kids all scrambled for the door that Camden presumed led into the wings, the sports flags on the wall flaring out as they ran past.
Now, she was alone with the teacher. Luckily, Camden had plenty of experience turning on the charm: this introduction should be a cakewalk.
“Miss Van Michaels! I’m so happy I could be here today, it’s lovely to meet you.”
She extended her arm for the woman to shake, who did so with much more gentle poise than she was used to from stringent casting directors.
“Likewise,” She replied in an accent that rivaled Camden in its charm. “The kids call me Miss Angie, though, so I’d use that around them. Makes things less formal that way.”
“Of course.” Camden agreed, fighting the instinct to rock on her heels.
She was no stranger to audition nerves, but she didn’t know why she was getting them here, considering this wasn’t an audition.
The teacher led the way to a set of fold-out chairs behind a rickety table in front of the stage.
“I’m sure this isn’t as glamorous as what you’re used to, but we make due here.”
“It’s certainly - unique, but it’s sort of quaint, you know? In a hodge-podge, eclectic sort of way.”
This was certainly the first auditorium Camden had been in that had basket ball nets attached to the walls.
She slowly took a seat, unconvinced that the chair wouldn’t snap out of place and send her tumbling to the floor.
Angeria pulled out a pristine copy of the script, setting it between the two of them. She also grabbed a notepad which made Camden realize she probably should’ve brought something to take notes.
Using her phone did not seem like the right course of action.
So, she (cautiously) leaned back in her chair, ready to absorb whatever the students were about the showcase.
They started from the beginning of the show, with its opening number: Miracle.
There was no music yet, so the kids spoke the lines instead of singing them. The only set piece was another shaky folding table with a measly dollar store tablecloth thrown on top. The choreography consisted of simple touch-step moves, most of which were out of sync.
Actually, a lot of it was out of sync. The chorus where everyone had to overlap was an off-beat nightmare of children screaming their words, the formations were so clunky that Camden couldn’t tell who was supposed to be playing a child or a parent, and the two poor ensemble members tasked with carrying the table to the back of the stage struggled with it even as Mrs. Wormwood went into her sad lament of being stuck in the hospital.
Ah yes, the most common hospital decor. Balloon tablecloths.
Camden was thankful when the actress playing Matilda popped out from underneath the table, because it meant everyone else had to freeze while she delivered her sad-and-therefore-much-quieter solo part.
Everyone broke out of their characters directly after the last line. To Camden’s surprise, the woman next to her burst into thunderous applause.
“You’ve made so much progress!” She beamed.
If that was the case, Camden felt lucky to have been absent from the last practice.
All of the kids shifted their gazes to Camden, their eyes expectantly waiting for feedback.
How was she supposed to approach this? Lie and say that it was Sondheim levels of masterful?
“It… it’s an alright foundation,” She forced her face into a gentle smile, though it was hard when she was still recoiling from the piercing noise. “You all have so much… passion, it was… explosive.”
A few of the kids scrunched their noses, forcing Camden to elaborate.
“Maybe there’s a way of…. controlling the explosion a little more, so to speak? I’m not sure if you’ve learned the core principles of counting in time with the beat, of cheating out to the audience-”
“Miss Angie’s taught us all about those things.” The student playing the party entertainer piped up matter-of-factly.
“Right,” Camden’s jaw tightened, “All I meant was that… maybe some more practice is in order.”
The kids didn’t seem satisfied with this. They fidgeted in their places on stage. Which was another fundamental of theatre they hadn’t quite grasped, might Camden add.
“Can we set up the stage for the Wormwood’s house? I’d like to start blocking the next scene. If you aren’t in it, please find a partner and go over your lines together.”
The teacher’s directions broke through the tension coating the air, which Camden was thankful for.
Little did Camden know, Angeria had been stewing in a tension of her own.
The stern expression that settled on Angeria’s face startled Camden to the point of wanting to go and hide under the table with Matilda.
“Listen, I don’t know what PR company sent you here, and frankly, I couldn’t care less.”
“I’m sorry…?”
Camden failed to see what had earned her this reaction: it’s not like she was the one who sang in the chorus of screeching banshees.
“From the moment you walked through the door, you’ve made it abundantly clear you have no respect for what we’re trying to accomplish. If you think you can just waltz in, get on your high horse about technique, and use that to get on the media’s good side, then you can leave right now.”
Was she not here to be another set of eyes? To, you know, help?
Why were her valid notes being painted as a bad thing?!
“These kids don’t need criticism from some disgraced broadway performer who doesn’t care enough to learn their names. They need support. Not to be robbed of their confidence just so you can feed your own self-importance.”
It’d been a long time since Camden had been treated this way. Angeria’s brown eyes cracked in a fury that cut Camden to the core.
“That’s - that’s not what I was trying to do,” Camden stuttered, though she hadn’t pondered the possibility for long enough to know if that really had been her goal.
“I understand that they need support - that’s why I got into theatre, too.”
Angeria didn’t respond: she just stuck her nose higher in the air and turned her attention back to her students. She started blocking the next scene, leaving Camden to fester in her shame.
Shockingly, shame is not a fun emotion to experience. Without Angeria glaring daggers at her, it was easier for Camden to stave it off. To let it morph into something else.
Rage.
Who did this teacher think she was to hurl such awful insults at her? Camden was donating her own time to this production, and instead of being grateful, she was being condemned for it.
News flash: this show was a complete mess so far, and was on course to become the laughingstock of the city.
Maybe the news articles about the headache-inducing Matilda show would eclipse the ones slandering Camden. That was fine by her, let this ship sink for all she cares!
Camden did not speak two complete sentences the rest of the rehearsal. She saved her choice words for when she got back to her apartment, and furiously swiped into Deja’s contact.
“Hey Cam,” Deja greeted cheerily, “How’d it go today?”
“Deja!! Why would you do that to me, why the hell did you-”
And then she choked the rest of her words back.
Here she was, screaming at her agent over the phone. No, her friend. But with how terrible she’d been treating Deja lately, could she even call her that?
Deja was only trying to help. It’s not like she could have possibly known what the teacher would say to her.
And this tantrum over the phone was clear proof that Angeria’s words had some truth to them.
“I’ve…” Camden’s voice lowered to a whisper as realization set in, “I’ve been a bitch, haven’t I?”
Despite the prior yelling, despite deserving a harsher retort, Deja only responded with a gentle: “That bad?”
Camden collapsed onto her bed, groaning into her pillow.
“I’m sorry,” She tried to say, but it ended up coming out all muffled against the fabric.
Somehow, Deja seemed to understand.
“Hey, I don’t want you to get down on yourself. Just because you’ve been all tunnel-vision lately does not make you a bad person. You aren’t.”
Camden didn’t know what to believe anymore. All she knew was that she couldn’t trust herself, not after this downwards spiral she’d been blind to up until now.
“I know you said it wasn’t all rosy, but I still think this experience will be good for you, even if the first day was a little… trying.” Deja offered.
“I’ll be banned if I set foot in there ever again,” Camden let out a self-deprecating laugh, “I’m surprised they didn’t have me thrown out when I so ignorantly decided to call their auditorium a ‘unique hodge-podge’.”
Camden was so out of touch, that she literally thought that had been a compliment.
“It can’t hurt to try, right? If I know anything about you, Cam, it’s that once you set your mind to something, you’re unstoppable.”
Angeria’s earlier words echoed in Camden’s mind.
They need support.
Camden made about a million fatal flaws during that first rehearsal, but the biggest was that she failed to gain anyone’s trust. Why shouldn’t they think she was just there for her own benefit?
“I don’t want to bog them down… can I really help them while I’m also trying to dig myself out of this hole?”
“It doesn’t have to be a one-way street: the production can help you, and if you keep an open mind, you can do the same for it.”
Deja’s peptalk managed to draw out one emotion from the neverending vortex of feelings Camden had endured today.
Motivation.
“I think you’re right.”
Though Camden couldn’t see her, she was sure that Deja’s lips had contorted into a large Cheshire smile.
“Finally!” She joked.
Camden laughed along, but it was restrained.
“Are… we good?”
“Of course we are,” Deja reassured her, “I’m here for you, Cam. Even more so now that you’re ready to listen.”
Now that she’d had a reality check, Camden was willing to heed Deja’s advice.
She just hoped it wasn’t too late.

(Cloaca) omg the balugo with baby headcanons got me thinkin and like, kid/baby stuff is not my jam so it's not exactly what im thinkin of BUT bakugou being the one motherfucker who just REFUSES to accept that he is, in fact, aging like literally everyone else. he'd be so DUMB about it too like you call him old once and he's benchpressing you to "prove his youth" but when he's done he has to go ice his back bc that shit hurted. Especially living as a high ranking pro hero my guy is FULL of bones that healed only barely correctly and muscles with more kinks than a bdsm swinger's party. He laughs at like deku or whoever when he gets his first grey hair and calls him old but the second bakugou gets his first (which lbr with the amount of stress in his life its gonna be pretty young) he's pouting all day and saying "NO, DUMBASS, you just can't see color correctly!! It was BLOND" Katsuki it was grey. (Omg trying to get katsuki to think his greying hair is cool by calling him grey wolf but the motherfucker just BITES YOU instead) His skin starts doing the old people thing where he sometimes just bleeds for no apparent reason and he is LIVID, suddenly looking up every beauty tip about keeping your skin ~young~ and ~ageless~. Ugh and don't even get me STARTED on that boy and his wrinkles. He makes so many expressions the baby is gonna have crow's feet and laughlines and forehead wrinkles for DAAAAAAYS and he's so MAD about it lmao holy shit. Sorry this is disjointed and a lot I just Lub Angy Blastyboi (and need to get this out of my system lol)
"muscles with more kinks than a bdsm swinger's party" cloaca......... I'M YELLING
Isn't it kinda canon that the Bakugos age really well, though? So I'm also imagining that Baku doesn't really think he really can age, right up until he DOES...
Goes around talking about how his mom's quirk kept her young for a super long time, except he doesn't exactly put together the pieces that he... doesn't actually have her quirk. So for the longest time he's all "tough shit" when it comes to others, but when it's finally his turn, he's like... HUH???? just because he never really thought it would happen...
You tell him he's getting old and he's 100% benching you... but he's so confused as to why his back is hurting, and doesn't realize what it's from. Or you point out a gray hair and he's like... "I haven't been painting anything? Are you thick?"
And yes those forehead creases are off the charts...
But also consider... Bakugo who doesn't even notice that he's aging??? Because he just doesn't care?
Like he's never really cared about looks before (even though he was blessed with them), so if anyone tries to bring up aging to him he's just... Okay? AND???
Like maybe you point out a gray hair, and he's just swatting you away... or he gets told to take it easy at work and he's making you run him an ice bath like it's no problem... but he really doesn't mind.
Either way, AIJFKDASLDFASD. Bye.

How would the V3 cast react to waking up to find that their skin turned a different color while they slept? You decide what color everyone got.
Interesting
Rantaro Amami:
Well, his skin matched his hair.
Which was definitely strange.
But he’d seen weirder.
Kaede Akamatsu:
Purple was her color.
But she still wanted it off.
Was it paint or something?
Ryoma Hoshi:
Blue wasn’t too bad.
But he still hated it.
It wouldn’t even come off in the shower.
Kirumi Tojo:
The soft jade didn’t make too much of a difference.
Though foundation covered it as well.
She would look into the cause soon.
Angie Yonaga:
Turquoise really spiced up her look!
It was a very beautiful shade.
Though she preferred her original caramel.
Tenko Chabashira:
Who did this?
She liked green and all, but…
It was all too, too much.
Korekiyo Shinguji:
…
Why?
It was always something, wasn’t it?
Miu Iruma:
She rocked it.
Pink was definitely her color.
Especially a cotton candy shade like that.
Gonta Gokuhara:
Green was okay.
He could blend in better now outside.
That was a good thing.
Kokichi Ouma:
This ruined his monochrome theme!
What a disaster.
Though purple wasn’t too awful.
Kaito Momota:
Why?
He liked purple, but really?
At least it wasn’t just him.
Kiibo:
Pale blue wasn’t much of a change.
He wondered if it was a malfunction.
Maybe Miu could fix it.
Tsumugi Shirogane:
It just looked like she had cospox.
At least she wasn’t itchy.
That was good.
Shuichi Saihara:
He was definitely more ashen gray than usual.
…
He didn’t like it.
Maki Harukawa:
It was like she had a perpetual blush.
She absolutely hated it.
When would it wear off?
Himiko Yumeno:
Her skin was a subtle orange.
It didn’t go with her hair.
But it wasn’t horrible.

Chapter 5: Mossy Saxifrage Means ‘Affection’
Alex was panicking as he went through his closet as Herc tried to help, while Laf was just lounging on his bed and complaining: “I mean, really, Alexandre? First, Thomas doesn’t tell me about his crush, then you leave me out as well and then I have to find out from a movie night where everyone was already aware, except for me. I’m hurt.”
“That’s not true, Laf. Pip didn’t know. And Peggy,” Alex tried to mollify the Frenchman as he held up a shirt to Herc, who finally nodded.
“Well, from the way he talked about Mr. Thomas, they were familiar,” Laf pouted.
“Oh for fucks sake, Laf, I’m sorry, okay? I’ll buy you dinner,” Alex exploded slightly, the stress about the date rearing his head, “Now, Herc green lighted this outfit. What do you think?”
Lafayette looked over and inspected Alex’s outfit. He was wearing black skinny jeans with a white dress shirt tucked in them, over that he had a slightly oversized emerald green – his signature color – knitted sweater and his hair was down.
“Mon petit lion, I had almost forgotten how well you sweep up,” Lafayette smiled.
“We both know you’re not that bad at English. You know it’s clean,” Alex said with an eyeroll, but there was a smile there as well with the approval for his outfit.
“You look good, dude,” Herc assured him again when he twirled for the mirror, checking his outfit again.
“Thanks, I just haven’t done this in a while,” Alex replied, “Fuck, I’m so scared.”
“It’ll be fine, mon ami. Thomas thinks highly of you. He will love the date, I promise,” Lafayette soothed Alex’s doubts, “You can do this. You have a plan, stick with it and you’ll have an amazing date and then the ball will be in his court and it will be out of your hands.”
“What if he likes me, but doesn’t want to commit to Pip?” Alex worried, he didn’t know why he was making himself more stressed.
“Were you there with movie night?” Herc chuckled, “The dude loves Philip.”
“God, I know, I’m just making up ways in which this can go wrong.” Alex sighed, taking himself in once more, fiddling with his watch.
“Well, do that later, you have a date to go to,” Herc said, pointing to the clock.
Alex cursed, quickly pulling on shoes and checking if he had everything with him, before putting on his coat and asking: “Is it really not weird that I don’t have flowers?”
“Non, you said yourself, the flowers from Monday will still be pretty,” Laf said and there was something knowing in those eyes that calmed his nerves.
“Alright, let’s do this,” Alex hyped himself up.
As he left Laf called out: “Me and Herc will be waiting here and we want all the details when you get back. Hope you’re not attached to your wine.”
Alex laughed at his antics, before getting into the car and driving to Thomas’s place, feeling slightly jittery, but also excited as fuck.
This time he could better appreciate the porch with the white woodwork, though he was more distracted by the waiting for Thomas to show up. After a moment, he did, greeting Alex with a shy smile: “Hi, Alex. You look great.”
“I could say the same to you,” Alex replied, and it was true. Thomas was wearing a light gray suit with a magenta dress shirt, you would say he was slightly overdressed if you weren’t aware of his usual extravagant style.
“You ready to go?”Alex asked.
“Oh, wait,” Thomas said, confusing Alex as Thomas briskly walked back into the house and returned a few moments later thrusting out his hands, but not meeting Alex’s eyes, “These are for you.”
He handed Alex a beautiful bouquet of pink and white flowers and Alex gasped. It had been a while since he’d gotten flowers from someone and the flowers were absolutely beautiful.
“The flowers are dogwood, milk vetch, mugwort, pink white and mossy saxifrage,” Thomas told him, slight flush on his face, “They reminded me of you, uhm- hope that’s okay?”
“Thank you so much, Thomas. They’re beautiful,” Alex told him and the smile he got from Thomas was so wide it enhanced the crinkles Alex adored. He shook himself out of the staring and asked: “You ready to go?” as he offered his arm.
Thomas took it with an eye roll and a smirk as he bumped their shoulder together: “Dork.”
“Ah, live to please,” Alex grinned, before holding the car door open for Thomas to climb in, before taking his seat behind the wheel and driving off to their destination.
It was a small but cozy restaurant that Alex knew, to which he had decided to take Thomas. The food was made to feel home-y, not fancy and Alex had loved it every since he’dfirst set foot into the little building with checkered wallpaper and wooden furniture.
Once they had gotten through the usual hustle of getting a table and ordering, they sat quietly in front of each other, neither really knowing how to start.
“God, this is so awkward,” Alex grinned after a while.
“I know,” Thomas chuckled in agreement.
“It’s like, I already know you so well, I have no clue what to talk about,” Alex snickered, finding lightheartedness in their mutual embarrassment.
“Exactly, I can’t really go, ‘so, what you do for a living?’” Thomas joked, sending Alex into a fit of giggles.
“Who’s the dork now?” he said in lieu of an answer.
The tension had broken with that and conversation flowed more easily. Thomas asked Alex about his latest essay on his blog, which ended up in a discussion about whether Thomas would make a good president.
They didn’t order any alcohol, Alex as the driver and Thomas in solidarity and because the restaurant mostly served beer and Thomas wasn’t that fond of beer.
Naturally when he stated that, they ended up in a discussion about alcoholic beverages – Alex laughing at Thomas when he called them that, claiming it sounded so dry – and which ones they preferred and why they were good.
When the meal was done, Alex insisted he’dpay, telling Thomas that if he wanted to pay so bad he would have to ask Alex out. Giving Thomas a cheeky grin.
He led Thomas out of the restaurant, but didn’t lead him to his car, instead he walked down the other way.
“Where are we going?” Thomas asked.
“You just have to wait and see, don’t you?” Alex smiled, holding out his hand and cocking his brow questioningly.
Thomas took it and asked: “Not even a hint?”
“It will be very cliché,” Alex told him, then grinned, “A little birdy told me, you can be very cliché.”
A flush overtook Thomas’s features as he groaned: “Have you been talking to Angie?”
Alex laughed at him and answered: “Of course, I did. You talk to her too though, I bet she has dirt on everyone. God, I don’t think I even want to know what she has on me, I knew her in college, no one is great in college.”
Now it was Thomas’s turn to laugh as he bumped their shoulder together, while he teased: “I’ll remember to ask her about it.”
“Shut up,” Alex rolled his eyes, before leading Thomas into a little park that was next to the water, looking out over the sea. Alex beamed at Thomas as he started walking slightly faster, tugging the taller man with him as he said: “Keep up slow poke.”
Thomas, who had just been murdered by Alex’s smile, just walked along dumbly, staring more at Alex than their destination.
“I was scared we wouldn’t make it with the dinner, but the days have really been getting longer,” Alex sounded relieved as he leaned on the fence, looking out over the sea.
Although it was hard, Thomas tore his gaze away from Alex to see what he was watching. Over the water the sun had started to set, beautiful colors painting the sky crimson and pink, reflecting in the water.
“Wow,” Thomas gasped.
Alex felt pride blooming in his chest when it seemed Thomas had liked his idea for their date and he contended himself with alternating between watching Thomas and the fading light.
When he glanced over again, Thomas met his eyes before he slowly leaned towards Alex. Every second seemed to last an eternity, but when they touched it was as if the moment had passed in a flash, barely longer than a blink and suddenly their lips had met.
The kiss was sweet.
Despite the fact that they had been dancing around each other for so long, there was no desperation in the kiss, just an affirmation that the other was there and close. A reminder that this moment was real and they were not alone.
They pulled back when air became a necessity and for a moment they just stared at each other, softly panting.
Then Alex smiled softly and Thomas immediately returned it as he said: “Thank you for asking me on this date, it’s perfect.”
Alex smile got bigger as it practically lit up his face, he replied: “I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. I must say, I’m having a grand time as well.”
“That’s good,” Thomas whispered, leaning in closer again.
“Yeah,” Alex breathed, before closing the gap again, neither of them aware of the last beams of light the sun still send their way.
When they were getting cold after the suns departure, they left the park, walking back to the car through busy streets. Alex drove them home and walked Thomas to his doorstep, once they arrived they turned to each other quite uncertain of how to proceed.
“I meant it when I said it was perfect,” Thomas said, “And I- uhm, well, I’d love to take you out sometime, if- if you’re willing, of course.”
“I’d love nothing more,” Alex replied.
“Good, good,” Thomas mumbled more to himself, unsure of how to go inside without it being awkward.
“Would it be brash for me to request a goodbye kiss before you enter?” Alex asked, his flirty nature and boldness coming out when he saw Thomas’s unsure look.
Thomas smiled, obviously relieved, as he said: “Sure,” before leaning down to capture Alex’s lips.
This kiss was brief, Thomas leaning back before things could go further, though he did lean back infor a soft peck before he truly broke it off and turned his keys.
“I’ll see you Monday?” Alex said, phrasing a truth they both knew as a question.
“Yeah, see you Monday,” Thomas nodded, before closing the door.
Alex had to stop himself from jumping excitedly, his body filled with emotions after tonight. He walked to his car instead and drove home, knowing he would be able to let it all out against Herc and Laf, who were waiting for him.
He was not disappointed, because the moment he turned his keys the two were at the door, Laf ripping it open before Alex had the chance to do it himself.
“How did it go?” Laf asked excitedly.
“It was great,” Alex couldn't have stopped the grin that split his face in half even if he had tried.
“Tell us everything,” Herc pulled him along to the kitchen and forced him into a chair, giving him a glass of water to keep his throat functioning as he recounted the evening in full detail.
“Okay, so I picked him up and he had flowers for me,” Alex held up the flowers and his two friends gasped over them, before Laf took them gently to set them in water.
“Thomas said they’re dogwood, milk vetch, mugwort, uhm, pink white and mossy saxifrage,” Alex told them. Alex was planning to look up their meaning later. He wouldn’t put it past Thomas to make the bouquet have some meaning, especially since he had looked up the meaning of cornflowers for him.
“How adorable,” Laf clapped his hands.
“It was, he was all blushy about it,” Alex gushed and the other two ahw-ed.
“What did he think of the restaurant?” Herc asked, it had been Herc who had first discovered the little place back in college and they all had fond memories there.
“I think he liked it,” Alex replied, “He ordered Mac-’N-Cheese and said it was good. Do you think he was lying?”
He turned to Laf, who assured him: “He’s not lying, mon ami. Thomas loves Mac-’N-Cheese, he will tell you when it’s not up to his standards, I promise.”
“Okay, okay,” Alex nodded, sudden worry soothed.
“What did you two talk about?” Herc asked, distracting him from his thoughts.
“Uhm, Thomas asked about my blog and I was recently writing about how presidential candidates are chosen and the inherent prejudices in the process and- well, anyway, it’s not important, but the conversation ended up about whether or not Thomas would make for a good president,” Alex answered.
“Of course you talked about politics on your first date,” Herc groaned.
“Hey, in my defense, he asked about my blog and we’ve been talking politics since before we were even friends.”
“Tell me you at least said something nice to him about it,” Laf said.
“Yeah, I told him I would vote for him,” Alex assured them with a grin, “Did I have you worried there?”
Herc shoved him and called him an asshole, before Alex went on about the rest of dinner and how nice it had been.
“He’s such a good conversationalist,” he gushed about Thomas, “He seems to know something about everything. We talked about wines, for example, and he just has knowledge about that, like he’s functioning adult.”
“Man, sometimes I worry about you,” Herc told him.
“Live to please,” Alex shot back, before returning to his subject, “And when he’s passionate about something, his eyes do this thing where they light up,” he was gesturing while he spoke, “and then he smiles and it shows off his teeth and I go fucking soft.”
“I can see that, mon ami,” Lafayette grinned when Alex got a dopey expression as he talked about Thomas, “It’s nice to see you so happy about someone.”
Alex stopped at that, then tentatively smiled: “It’s good to feel happy about someone again. It’s also a bit weird, like I’m betraying John. I know it’s not, but, you know.”
The others nodded and Herc gathered Alex up into a hug, which Lafayette joined as fast as he could manage. They stood like that for a moment, before Alex tightly said: “I’m good, I’m good now. Thanks.”
“No problem, mon ami,” Laf said.
“Yeah, dude, anytime,” Herc agreed.
Alex smiled at them, before clearing his throat and taking a sip of water. Then he said: “I took him to the park by the water and we watched the sunset.”
“I told you, you would make it,” Laf said triumphantly.
Rolling his eyes, Alex replied: “Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, I should have trusted you.”
“Screw that, was it romantic?” Herc asked.
“Very, his eyes were shining and the sun made him glow like and angel and it was just so incredibly pretty and then we kissed and that-”
“You kissed!?!” the two screamed.
Alex blushed a bright red as he nodded. He whispered: “It wasn’t a filthy kiss or anything, just sweet. His lips are very soft.”
At the end he was barely audible and Lafayette squished his cheeks: “You are so adorable, mon petit lion. I was to scream.”
“Was he a good kisser?” Herc asked, breaking the moment.
“Herc!” Alex whined scandalized.
“Come on, Alexandre, he can’t have been that bad,” Lafayette teased.
“He wasn’t,” Alex was so red, it looked like he was about to explode, “He was a really good kisser, can we now please not talk about this.”
“Oh, non, you kept your crush from me, now I want all the details,” Lafayette told him with a glint in his eyes.
“What do you even want me to tell you?” Alex threw his hands up.
“Was there tongue?” Herc asked.
“Come on, I thought you were on my side,” Alex pouted.
“Well, you thought wrong. Now, tongue: yes or no?” Herc demanded.
“You guys are mean.”
“And you should know better by now, mon ami.”
It was quiet for a beat, then it became apparent that they weren’t gonna let this go, so Alex just sighed: “There was a bit of tongue.”
“Eyyy.” “Get it, man!”
“I hate you both.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do.” It was silent. “God dammit, no, I don’t.”
“There he is again,” Herc smiled.
“But it was nothing like that, it was sweet and chaste- well, not chaste, but that was the vibe it had. It was innocent and you keep your dirty minds away from it,” Alex told them.
“Oehh, not chaste,” Lafayette waggled his eyebrows, while Herc smirked: “You have the dirtiest mind out of all of us, kitty.”
“You will not speak a word about that cat, he has ruined my life,” Alex threatened.
“That’s a fun story to tell Thomas,” Laf grinned evilly and Alex shrieked: “You will do no such thing!”
“Ruin sport.”
“You know it is spoil sport, Laf, I will not let you use this as an excuse for getting out of this. It hasn’t worked in years,” Alex deadpanned.
“Worth a try, most still believe the accent,” Lafayette shrugged.
“Back to the topic at hand, people,” Herc called their attention, “We’re still at the romantic kissing near the water during a sunset and I want to know what happened next.”
“Nothing happened next,” Alex told them, flushing slightly as he remembered Thomas’s genuine face as he thanked him for asking him out. God, if only that man knew what he did to Alex, fuck, he was screwed.
“Your face doesn’t look like nothing,” Herc teased.
“Stay away from my face,” Alex shot back, “Nothing happened.”
“Ahww, come on, petit lion, tell us,” Laf pleaded.
“I swear, nothing happened,” Alex said, then he mumbled, “He just said he loved the date and then kissed me again.”
Lafayette squealed: “God you two are so cute, I love living vicariously through you.”
“You’re an idiot,” Alex informed him, but he was smiling fondly at his friend’s antics. It was nice to be able to gush to them about his date.
“What happened then?” Herc really wanted all the details.
“Nothing really, I drove us home, walked him to the front door and got a goodnight kiss,” Alex shrugged, fully aware that his nonchalance was being undermined by a blush.
Herc whistled: “Three kisses in one night, you doing good, ‘Lexi.”
Alex grinned and sighed dreamily: “Yeah, it was good.”
He was snapped out of it by Lafayette, who was really pinching his cheek like he was a grandmother and Alex his grandchild. Alex pushed the hand away and glared at the Frenchman menacingly, though it had lost all effect throughout the years.
So, completely unbothered, Laf pulled away and poured them all a glass of wine, before he said: “I say we watch soap opera’s.”
“Sure, Laf,” Alex gave in easily, the excitement had died down and he was now tired. Tomorrow he would pick up Philip, who was staying with Eliza and Maria and tell Eliza everything again, but for now he was content to sit and watch shitty TV.
The next morning, after he had kicked out Herc and Laf, he quickly googled his bouquet, before driving to Eliza to tell her everything and give Philip a hug.
When he arrived at their house Maria opened. He smiled at her: “Ah, Misses Schuyler, I hope Pip was on his best behavior.”
“Always, Alex, here come in,” she sidestepped so that he could enter and yelled: “Philip, your Papa is here.”
Little footsteps raced down the hall and soon Alex had his arms full of talking now already six-year-old: “Papa, me and Auntie Maria and Auntie Eliza watched a movie about a lady who was a nanny and she had an umbrella and-”
“You watched Mary Poppins, buddy?” Alex asked before he had to listen to an entire rundown of a movie he already knew.
The boy nodded and said: “The music was very fun and Auntie Eliza said it was a disgrace I hadn’t seen it. I now know a new word, disgrace. Isn’t that cool, Papa?”
“Very cool, buddy,” Alex smiled, “ Were you nice to your Aunties?”
“The nicest, Papa,” Philip promised.
“Good to hear.”
“In fact this kid was so good that Maria offered to take him to the pool with her and a few of the other kids,” Eliza said, walking into the hallway, “I know how you feel about water, but he was so excited about it.”
It seemed she had jogged Philip’s memory, because the boy suddenly pleaded: “Oh, yes, please, Papa. It will be so much fun and I have the swimpants Uncle Laf gave me, with the pirates and it will be totally safe because Auntie Maria will be there. Please, Papa, please.”
Alex had already made up his mind, but pretended to think about it, before he faked a sigh: “Okay, I guess you can go, but only if you promise to eat ice cream with me after.”
Philip cheered and jumped up, Alex barely managing to catch him as the boy babbled his thanks and pinky promised to eat ice cream with his Papa afterwards.
He rushed up the stairs the moment Alex had let him go with Maria rushing after him to make sure he would be okay, only stopping to plan a kiss on Eliza’s cheek when she passed.
With them gone Eliza turned to Alex with a grin: “So, am I going to get a rundown of the entire night as well, Mr. Hamilton?”
Alex blushed and answered: “If you want to, yes please. Though maybe when Philip is gone.”
“Oh, went that well,” Eliza smirked.
“No, no, nothing like that. Honestly, I don’t know why Angie and Peggy think you’re the innocent one, really,” he told her.
“It’s the baby face and the fact that I did nothing in High School because I thought I was straight, but boys scared me,” she said with a grin. He already knew that, so he just rolled her eyes at her instead of gracing her with an answer.
At that point Philip and Maria got back downstairs, dressed to go to the swimming pool. He yelled: “Papa, look, Auntie Maria has pool noodles!”
“Wow, Pip, that’s great,” Alex attempted to match the boy’s enthusiasm.
“Auntie Maria says she going to teach me how to swim, but she also says I get to play and we’re going to jump into the water and one of the kids has water pistols,” Philip was getting breathless in the only way small excited children could get.
“But we can’t do that unless we get this stuff into the car, sweetheart,” Maria interrupted the boy, “You look strong, could you carry it for me?”
“Yes, I can,” Philip nodded quickly and hurried to the unlocked car.
When he was gone Alex said: “Thank you, Maria, you’re lifesaver. I know I should be teaching him how to swim at this age, but...” he trailed off and shuddered.
“I know, Alex, don’t worry about it,” Maria smiled at him, patting his cheek before telling Philip to say goodbye to Papa, while she put away the last of their stuff.
With Philip hugging Alex and Eliza and Maria pecking Eliza on the cheek and waving at Alex, they were off. Eliza and Alex waited until they were on the street, before Eliza pulled Alex into the house and made him coffee, sitting him down on their couch with glee.
Once they were both settled she asked: “So? How did it go?”
“He got me flowers,” Alex blurted it out and Eliza cooed, before he pushed on, “Fuck he gave me flowers and I looked up their meaning, because I told him the meaning of the flowers I gave him and I wouldn’t put it past him to do it back, especially because he told me which flowers it was and just- fuck.”
“Wanna tell me what they meant?”
“I think my heart will burst if I do, ‘Liza, I’m too queer and soft for this.”
“Now you’re just making me curious, spill.”
“Okay, so,” Alex started counting on his fingers, “he got me dogwood, which means durability. Milk vetch, which is your presence softens my pain, like holy fuck, with everything that’s just like- damn. Mugwort, which means happiness, like I don’t need a functioning brain, am I right? White pink means ingeniousness and talent, that’s a big fucking compliment from him. But then the one that takes the cake, he gave me mossy saxifrage and that means affection. Affection. I think he likes me.”
“Alexander, you dumb fuck, of course he likes you.”
“I know, but still,” Alex whined.
“Ahw, you’re so cute.”
“Now you sound like Laf. He terrorized me last night, he and Herc together. They’re so mean to me, ‘Liza, so mean.”
“Well, then I’m mean too. Don’t leave me hanging here, I’m having lunch with Angie tomorrow and I need details.”
“What is it with all my friends using me for entertainment?” Alex asked rhetorically.
“Dramaqueen,” Eliza rolled his eyes, “Come on, if you’re nice I’ll ask Angie if Thomas told her anything about your date.”
“Really?” Alex perked up immediately. It wasn’t that he hadn’t believed Thomas when he said the date was perfect, it was just that he needed a lot more validation, preferably a full yelp review or a seventh grade book review.
“Really,” Eliza promised, “Now spill.”
So Alex did, he had been planning on it anyway, looking forwards to it actually, so he didn’t spare the details. Where Herc and Laf teased him, Eliza listened and asked questions, it was different with her, though with his other friends had been nice as well.
He and Eliza gossiped together, they had started the tradition when they were dating and never stopped, he knew he could say anything to her without it every reaching anyone’s ears or getting judged for it.
“I really like him, Betsy, and it scares me how much I already like him,” he confessed softly after he had finished telling her everything.
“Why does it scare you, ‘Lexi?” she asked softly.
Alex thought about it for a moment, he already had his suspicions, but he had purposely not thought about it.
“I think-” he started, “I think I’m just scared that he doesn’t like me as much as I like him and that I am going to get my heart broken in a different way, but all over again. I don’t know, he just-” a sigh, “he could do so much better than me.”
“Oh, Alexander,” Eliza sighed, putting her cup down to hug him closely, “You’re a catch, honey. If he isn’t blind, he’ll see how good you are, truly.”
“You really think so?” he asked.
“Yes, I really think so. And from what I’ve heard he really likes you too,” Eliza assured him.
“But it’s going so fast, Betsy,” Alex protested, “I haven’t looked at anyone since John’s death and the first time I’m actually interested in someone it all goes well? And I’m just supposed to believe that I’m that lucky?”
“After all your rotten luck, the universe owes you some,” Eliza sounded dark for a moment and Alex was glad she had his back. He would hate to have her as an enemy, she was scary.
She ran a hand through his hair and said: “But, really, Alex, if this pace feels right, then it feels right. From what I’ve heard you’ve been dancing around each other for about half a year, liking someone on the first date is usually good.”
“God, you’re right,” Alex groaned into her shoulder.
“I’m always right, Alex, when will you learn that,” she told him with a grin.
He huffed amused at that and swiftly agreed: “I will try to remember,” then he untangled himself from her hold and soft said: “Really, Betsy, thank you for listening, you’re the best.”
“I did it with love,” she smiled and he knew she meant it, God she was too good for the world sometimes.
“But enough about me, it feels like I haven’t heard from you in forever. How’s it going?” he changed the subject.
“It’s going great,” she smiled, “Me and Maria are working hard at the orphanage and it’s really going well. We still have some issues, but that’s unavoidable. But most of the kids are settling in okay.”
“That’s good to hear,” Alex told her, content to listen as she talked about her life for a while, with him just having to pay attention and ask questions. It was familiar and relaxing.
After catching up all morning, they made lunch together and walked through the park near Eliza’s home, talking about everything and nothing. When they got home it was around three and Maria said she and Philip would be home around three thirty.
Their arrival was punctuated by Philip yelling: “Papa, Papa, I jumped of the plank and it was very scary, but also cool and Auntie Maria made a video and it was the bestest!”
His hair was still kind of wet, but Alex didn’t care as he allowed the kid to scramble up onto his lap when he hugged him: “Wow, buddy, that sounds amazing, you’re a very brave little man. I’m glad you and Auntie Maria had fun together.”
Philip beamed and started to tell Alex everything about his day with wild gestures, but honest eyes and a big smile.
Alex listened closely, he might not like the water himself, but he was glad his son had enjoyed himself. Besides, swimming was a good skill to have and he had been meaning to sign him up for swimming classes, it was just that he hadn’t wanted to go into the water himself and most classes encouraged parents to come with their kids for the first few classes.
He could ask one of the others to do it, but it would feel like he was dumping Pip on them. All of them were busy and he didn’t want to come across as a bad parent to the swimming teacher, which was a stupid reason, but it had still kept him from signing Philip up.
When the boy had recounted the entire day, Alex said: “ That sounds very fun, Pip. But if I remember correctly, you still have a promise to me to keep. So, say goodbye to your Aunties and thank them for their hospitality, okay?”
It seemed like Philip had just remembered the promised ice cream, because he lit up. He quickly turned to his Aunties and rushed: “Thank you Auntie Eliza and Auntie Maria for letting me have a sleep over and taking me to the swimming pool.”
Eliza smiled softly at Philip and hugged him as she said: “You were a pleasure to have, Pip. Now be nice to Papa.”
“I will,” he promised, before he was hugged by Maria.
“Hey, little swimmer, see you soon, alright?” she kissed him on the cheek.
“Can we go swimming again?” he asked.
“Of course, little man,” she promised and he beamed at her.
“Do you have all your stuff, Pip?” Alex asked him. He had already checked, but it was good to teach Philip to keep track of his stuff.
“Yes, Papa, me and Auntie Eliza checked in the morning before I went swimming,” Philip told him proudly.
“Oh, wow, good job, Pip,” Alex smiled, “You really deserve some ice cream now. Let’s go,” he was lead to the door and smiled, “Bye ‘Liza, thanks for today,” kissing her on the cheek, before doing the same with Maria, “Thanks for taking Pip swimming.”
“You know we don’t mind, ‘Lex,” Eliza told him again, “We’ll gladly spend the day with Pip.”
“Still, I am grateful each and every time,” Alex said sincerely, before he and Philip walked away with a wave and he had to focus on buckling Philip in properly.
They went to their favorite ice cream shop. Alex got vanilla and cookie while Philip got mint and chocolate.
While they were eating Philip asked: “Did you and Mr. Thomas have fun, Papa?”
Alex stopped for a moment and thought of what he wanted Philip to know, before he smiled: “Me and Mr. Thomas had lots of fun. I did miss you, though.”
“I missed you too, Papa.”
“Hey, how about you and me go play in the park tomorrow? How does that sound?” he asked. He and Pip usuallyspend each Saturday together, but today had been kind of different, so while usually Sundays were days on which they both did their own things at home, he could switch it up a bit to spend more time with Pip.
“Yeah!” Philip cheered.
“Then we’ll do that,” Alex smiled at Philip fondly as the latter smeared chocolate ice cream all over his little face.
After another moment of silent eating, Philip asked: “Will I get to see Mr. Thomas again? I made loads of drawings since I last saw him, I even drew him. Do you think he wants to see my art, Papa?”
Alex didn’t know how to answer that one. Yes, he and Thomas were moving up from friendship and if this went on, he would become more apparent in Philip’s life, but he didn’t want to force the man to hang out with his kid. Though, they both seemed to like each other.
“I’m sure he’ll be around again, Pip,” Alex finally decided to go with, “Maybe he can come again to movie night and you can show him then?”
That seemed to mollify Philip, who simply nodded and went back to eating his ice cream. Alex couldn't stop the smile if he wanted to. God, he really was lucky that he had Pip and that this thing with Thomas was happening.
Now, just he just had wait and see how it goes.
~~~~~~~
A/N:
I felt that this fic was lacking Philip content even though it started as a Philip and Papa Alex fic, so I went and rectified that a bit, because Philip is one of my favorites.
Also, Eliza and Alex friendship for the win and Alex’s friendship with Herc and Laf too. Like so many things are happening with so many characters it’s hard to get them all in there with the attention to their characterization they deserve.
Also, the bouquet, in case anyone wondered:
So I finished hs which means now I have a lot of free time cause im not going to college but my dad loves loves to shame me into why I’m not going out or doing stuff (cause I literally have no friends) and also shamed me about food but like, do you have ideas of what I can do to spend my time, I’m not really feeling creative for a long time now which is why I haven’t done anything I’m five feet deep into depression but he doesn’t believe in mental illness
Hello, dear! First of all congratulations! High school can be such a burden, it’s so hectic and the tests my lord. But you made it through! There are so many different paths and lots of them don’t involve college, so don’t let him pressure you into it, going by force isn’t worth anything. This is a struggle people have a lot, we get caught up in the rhythm of things (even if we’re not enjoying it) and time goes by, eventually we realize we can’t remember the last time we enjoyed ourselves. Here are something you can use to kick start creativity and find a path of joy!
I say this all the time but Cleanse Your Space! Seriously, get rid of any old things you don’t really need! Whether you live back home or you’ve found a new place, filter out the mess and leave space for change.
Next, what do you always picture your place looking like (aesthetically) in a perfect future? The things around us change our mood, and even though objects aren’t everything they bring us joy! If you’ve always wanted to paint your room blue, save up and do it! If you’ve always wanted fairy lights, house plants, that poster? You can do it!
Also, what skills have you wanted to pick up? Violin, acting, dancing, painting, running, gardening, cooking or more! Take a local class, or find free lessons online.
Explore new things. You may not know if you like them until you try, so get out of your comfort zone a bit!
Getting a job is also helpful. It can help you prepare for a future is almost any work. If you hunt around you can probably figure out which places to avoid and which to go for. Also, saving money is a bonus.
Take yourself out to do things! Everyone should learn to love being alone with themselves, especially extroverts. Take yourself out to dinner, a movie, hiking.
Expand your world view! Listen to TEDx talks, read random books, learn a new language, meet new people. It’s seriously so helpful just to learn about the world. Book Recs: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee, Salt To The Sea by Ruta Sepetys, The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I also have a million ted talk recs if you want.
Journal! Writing down your thoughts is a great tool for problem-solving, every journal session I have, I leave amazed with the answers to tough problems I can come up with. Sometimes we just need to ramble!
I hope you have an amazing week! Stay safe, and don’t forget to say hello every once and a while!
Three Days ~ 4
AO3
~*~Emma~*~
What in the hell is he doing with his tongue? He's licking his lips and flipping it around. Is he trying to drive me crazy? I'm not sure he even realizes what he's doing. Its like a nervous habit or he's thinking. Either option is sexy as fuck.
I'd wondered how and when the subject of him being The Winter Soldier would come up. It had to eventually. Like I'd said it's difficult to get to know him without hearing about his friends. It just so happens that his friends are famous people and super heroes.
I could make this easier. I could tell him a story to let him know I'm not starstruck or looking to attach myself to a celebrity. But that would open up a conversation I'm not ready to have and, frankly, he's not earned. Yet.
After I said to talk about his friends, Sebastian told me stories of dinners in Atlanta, nights out, and practical jokes galore. He used nicknames and told me about the people. I wasn't learning about a bunch of actors. I was learning about Evans, Mackie, Chace, Will, and Scarlett among others.
I must have had a look on my face because he stopped, "What?"
It took a second for me to track back to what I was thinking. "Just because I can match names with faces doesn't mean I know the people. Thank you for telling me about the people."
He smiled and his blue blue eyes lit up. It was like he was surprised he'd been talking so easily. He squeezed my hand and nodded once, "You're welcome."
Our dinner arrived and broke the moment. I'm glad. Like when the appetizer came and stopped the flirty comments. The interruptions kept us from going to far. A first date is like a dance. You flirt, you back away. You get into a deep conversation, then go back to a safer topic. Too much intensity and you run the risk of regretting what you shared in a moment. Out of control flirting just lands you in bed.
While we ate I took over telling stories about my friends. By the time they took our plates we'd built the foundation for future conversations about our days. I didn't doubt there would be those conversations.
We had to stop holding hands while we ate. Almost immediately I saw him shift and felt his leg brush mine and come to rest with his calf pressed against mine. With the plates gone, Sebastian reached across the table. I put my hand back in his and felt a frisson of energy travel up my arm. His hands made mine look tiny. Us holding hands wasn't a passive activity. We played with each other's fingers. Every so often we'd twine fingers and be still for a minute or two before the movement continued. Sebastian seemed especially fascinated by my finger nails. He’d run his fingers over the sides, push against the end, or almost pull on on them.
Another pair of beers arrived and conversation restarted. “You grew up in Georgia and now you're in New York. How'd that happen?”
I grimaced, “There's an ex in this story. You up for hearing the ex story?”
“If you're up to telling.”
“I went to the University of Georgia in Athens. About four hours away from home. First semester of my Junior year I took an elective in American Legal Foundations. Most of the class was taught by a second year law student named Jimmy.” I quirked an eyebrow to clue him in. He smiled. “He was handsome, smart, and very driven. We dated through graduation. Him law school and me undergrad. He got a job at a firm in New York City. I applied to NYU and started working on my Masters. You can work as a teacher in New York with your bachelors, but you have to have taken some prep classes, which I didn't have. So I worked as a server for the first year.”
Sebastian groaned, “I did too. I don't think I've ever been so tired in all my life. And is why I tip ridiculous amounts.”
I laughed, “I remember how bad my feet hurt.” He groaned with me. “It worked good with my school schedule. In the fall I got a job teaching Kindergarten. We had this one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. I loved our neighborhood. There was always something going on. I got to be friends with this local musician and his wife. She taught first grade, which is how I learned I would prefer first grade. The next year I moved to first grade and we team taught. I thought I was set. A man I loved, job I loved, neighborhood I loved, friends I loved.” I paused to take a drink.
His thumb moving against my skin would have been soothing if I wasn't past all this. Still, it felt good. “This is where it falls apart.”
“Part of what I fell in love with was his drive. I didn't count on it turning on me. Somewhere he started to think I was less than him. He was better than me. His friends were better than mine. At his firm's Christmas party I noticed when he introduced me or if someone asked me about myself he would say “she's just a teacher”. We got into a huge fight that night. He hated my best friend and her wanna be rock star husband. My salary was always going to hold him back.” I smiled. “Hold him back. His phone rang and I saw the name of one of his coworkers. She was the one he'd been fucking for months.”
Sebastian hissed in a breath, “Ouch, sorry.”
“Ancient history now, but thanks. My parents wanted me to moved back.  I just couldn't, but I couldn't afford our apartment either. I searched around and found a long term sub position near here for a teacher on maternity leave. They didn't have a spot for me the next year, but I found a first grade position in another school. I've been here three years now.”
“Very different from Brooklyn.”
I laughed, “Very. I loved the city. I'm not telling you anything you don't know. The energy is different there. You can walk around doing nothing and have the best time. I go back and visit friends, especially if Eli has a gig and I can see Angie. Most people come up here to get away from the city. I go to the city to get away from the peace and quiet. Where do you live?”
“Soho.” He looked uncomfortable. “When I first moved to the city I lived in the apartment with three other friends in a scary neighborhood right near the subway. Good times. Acting isn't a steady paycheck. I just bought a place last year. I put it off for a long time. Part of me kept expecting the work to dry up and be worried about making rent again. My manager had to practically forge my name on the mortgage. I shook for a good three days. Then it got fun. I liked decorating and picking out stuff. Everything was painted white when I moved in. I left most of it, but I painted a wall in my bedroom a blue gray. Evans told me I couldn't paint it black.” He shrugged, “I like black.”
“My kitchen is black.”
“Good girl.” He brought his beer to his lips and smiled, “So is mine.”
We talked about New York for a long time. Best places for people watching. Live music places. Hidden restaurants. Things we loved and things we hated. Somewhere in this I decided this was the best first date I'd ever had. Or maybe it was just him.
The place was crowded, noisy with conversation and the clinking of tableware. His attention was never pulled away from me. I felt like I was the only person in the place. If he had first date nerves they weren't showing. He seemed relaxed and natural, which made it easy for me to be relaxed and natural. Facial expressions showed interest and kept me talking. He became more animated as he told his own stories. It was like he focused all his energy on listening, but let it go when it was his turn. As we talked about New York we were talking over and around each other and reacting to things said. It didn't feel like a first date.
When that conversation died down he brought his other hand to the table and motioned for mine. He held both of mine and his face went serious. “Alright. You're stranded on an island.” I snorted a laugh. He shook his head and laughter filled his eyes, “Wait for it.” He huffed a breath and got back into character, “You're stranded on an island. All your needs are taken care of. There's shelter, food, water, indoor plumping. But . . . there's no internet. In the middle of main room, which has an amazing ocean view by the way, is a jukebox. It only has five songs. What are they and why?”
My eyes grew wide, “Only five!”
He sneered and nodded, “Only five. Better make them good ones. Who knows how long you’ll be there.”
“You're gonna tell me yours aren't you?”
“When you're done.” He stared at me while I was thinking. “Only five.”
“Shut up, I'm thinking.” The first three were easy. “Ok, first, foremost, and always is Black by Pearl Jam.”
He made a face, “Ooo, good choice.” He started singing. “I know someday you'll have a beautiful life. I know you'll be a star. In somebody else's sky. Why oh why can't it be mine.”
I had joined in after the first line and could feel the smile on my face. “That's the reason. The feeling and rip your heart out emotion is those lines.” I closed my eyes and thought back, “Seeing that live the first time when I was sixteen was incredible. Watching Eddie on stage with his eyes closed, pouring out the pain. Then it switches to that Doodoo-doo-doo-doodoodoo over and over, almost like a mantra or sitting in the corner rocking back and forth to comfort yourself.  Start a Fire, by Ryan Star. It's memories of falling in love or maybe falling in lust. It's got an intense part kind of like Black. Probably because he's a big Pearl Jam fan. It says things like taking chances in the back of your car, give in to the beat of your heart as my hand touches your skin, and wake up dreaming and lie here with me.” I was on a roll now and kept going. “Shatter Me. Lindsey Stirling is a violinist and the lead singer from Halestorm does vocals. It's about being afraid and wanting to feel alive again. Starts kinda soft with the soothing violin in the background then works up to a frenzy. The first line is “I piroutte in the dark” so as the music builds I just picture spinning faster and faster trying to break free from the fear. There's an old song by Jefferson Starship. At least I think they were still Jefferson Starship. Miracles. It's from the seventies and it's one the dirtiest song I've ever heard.  Not in the filthy I wanna fuck you like an animal way, but sexy dirty. Have you heard it?”
He scrunched up his face while he thought, “I think so. Something about if only you believed in miracles so would I. Is that right?” I nodded. “I don't recall the dirty part.”
“There's a short version they play on the radio that doesn't have it. It's almost at the end and says I got a taste of the real world when I went down on you.”
I watched a slow smirk form and his eyebrow quirk. “The seventies had lots of secret dirty parts. Afternoon Delight. That song by Donna Summer full of sex noises. When I went down on you isn't really hidden.” He held up a finger. “One more.”
“This one is new and I'm currently obsessed. Chances by the Backstreet Boys.” He snickered. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. I sang the first line, “What if I wouldn't have asked for your name and time wouldn't have stopped when you said it to me.” He just stared and I switched back to speaking, “It’s a simple love song about fate. All the what ifs that have to happen for two people to fall in love.” I shrugged. “Your turn.”
He threw his hands in the air, “I can't compete with yours! You've got all these intense songs about heartbreak, fear, love, and lust. I've got, I've got Jessie's Girl.”
I laughed at the way he threw up his hands, made faces, and collapsed back into his chair. His over the top level of exasperation was funny. “I like things that make me feel.”
Sebastian clapped his hands then rubbed them together, “I'm going to have to up my game.” He took a drink of his beer, shook out his arms, cracked his knuckles, and finally reached out and took my hand again.  “I'm going to stick with Rick Springfield's Jessie's Girl as my number one. Playing air guitar and singing into a hairbrush. Good times. I love eighties music so I'll add INXS. Love lots of their music, but if I have to pick one and conserve my choices I'll go with Disappear. Love song about how the right person can make all the problems disappear. And it's got a great beat you can dance to like Molly Ringwald in Breakfast Club.”
“I'd pay money to see that.”
“The night is still young. Umm, number three. Sound of Silence. The Disturbed version. A classic made over. Could have been Careless Whisper, but they messed up the rhythm of the best part. I like it because it's familiar, but completely new. There's this group out of Vegas called Adelita's Way. Invincible is this high energy rock song. Never fails to get me up at the gym. Incidentally, it was also a WWE theme song and that was my fall back if acting didn't work out.” He hummed again and closed his eyes. A second later he was doing that thing with his tongue again. Must be him thinking. “And lastly, anything by Tool.”
I shook my head, “Nope.”
“I didn't think I'd get away with it. So I'll go for Puscifer and Rev 22:20.”
“Thought you said Tool.”
“Puscifer is one of Maynard's side gigs. It's got a line that say if I've got to sin to see her again then I'm gonna lie lie lie. Straight up sacrilegious filthy sex music. Intense too, so you might like it.”
“Your going to use that against me forever, aren't you?”
He nodded, “But you've got Jessie's Girl.”
